B
Yeah, I mean, I was. I mean that's true. That's true. You guys, you guys did all the interacting. I was on the zip line.
C
That's the whole time.
B
We're just make. Are we first? I think you should leave reference of this year.
C
Yes. First one of the year. Exactly. Exactly.
B
Neil hasn't yelled 55 yet, so.
A
Or 55.
C
There's one.
A
55 takeaways you got.
C
I was going to say 55 mock draft takeaways. Let's start with field. We had a big mock draft yesterday just in case people didn't watch it or be a part of that yesterday. Real quickly. It is a super flex draft with an extra flex position. So we had two extra spots. Very deep draft, a little bit different than our usual ones. Field, any major takeaways for you?
A
So this, you have to kind of bake in that you have two extra spots on each roster. So you can almost move this takeaway up by like a round or two if you're just doing a standard 10 or 12 team league. Round six produced four wide receiver picks that I was all about when I saw them come off the board yesterday. So in a standard league, this might be more like round four. It's just kind of a reminder that if you don't land a Puka or a Jamar Chase or Justin Jefferson, jsn, any of those guys at the very top because you either go running back heavy or perhaps running back plus tight end heavy early on with a Trey McBride or a Brock Bowers. There are going to be some awesome wide receiver options somewhere in the fourth to fifth round in our 10, 10 or 12 team leagues. There were four guys that went in round six specifically yesterday that I loved. Tel McMillan. This is not the order, by the way, that which they were four guys, just four guys. Tedro McMillan, who had a stretch of four weeks last year where he was a top 12 wide receiver. We expect a boost in his second year. Clear cut wide receiver one in Carolina. Devonte Smith, another trendy breakout candidate. A.J. brown, now in New England Patriot. Devonte Smith, the presumptive wide receiver one for Philadelphia. Lad McConkey, who we know that Lad two years ago was the toast of the town for the Chargers. Last season was a mystery, but we're all kind of invested in this Chargers offense, the potential for a breakout. Mike McDaniel has a need for speed. Lad McConkey offers plenty of that. And then finally, Ameka Abuka. You guys know my favorite breakout candidate of the year, who through the first five weeks of last season was wide receiver three behind only Puka Nukua and Amonra St. Brown. So the takeaway to apply this to other drafts is just patience will be a virtue at wide receiver. I'm not telling you to bypass a Puka Nukua or a Jamar Chase, but it can get kind of empty and feel like an inauspicious start if you don't have a running back and you're going into the third or fourth round. I don't feel that same way if I don't have a wide receiver into the third or fourth round.
B
Yeah, a couple of things here. First of all, that was the order they were picked. So well done by you.
C
Way to go.
B
Also, T. Higgins went, yeah, right before Abuka. And we also had Jalen Waddle in the middle. Now, I know he's a little beat up right now, but that's a lot of talent in that spot. To your point. And if you look at the running backs that are going in this area too, Kim Scott, who I like him. We'll talk about him perhaps later. Quinton Judkins. Fine. But then it's, you know, Trevion Henderson. We have Tetaroa. Trevion Henderson, who might be a number two running back. We may talk about that at some point too. Then Devonte Smith, then McConkey Waddle. Then, I mean, it's Super Flex. Sam Darnold, T. Higgins, Jadarian Price is A question mark. Bayshaw, Tutin, question mark. You know, a breakout guy. A lot of certified star receivers here are guys that we have very high hopes for. I think some people though might be a little surprised and I know ADP kind of reflects this, but I think if you just think like Tetarol McMillan, it's like, Ah, it's the Panthers offense and I don't know if he like has that, has that level, that ceiling. But Ebuka, like, there's just so much more hype for like Tedro is kind of quieter.
A
Sure.
B
But McMillan is going ahead of him at times and well ahead of him in this draft. I. I think that kind of makes sense in a lot of ways. Remember, McMillan went first in the draft and also McMillan was the defensive rookie of the year. Yes, he was. And he was a much safer play in fantasy last year. Buga started hot and then he really disappeared. McMillan didn't have as high a ceiling, but his floor was really high. And because he saw a lot of target volume and we, of course, we expect him to go to the next level this year. So like, that's how, that's kind of how I still feel about them. I feel like a book has a better shot to be like a top five or ten receiver. But I feel like the floor maybe is a little higher with McMillan who in theory is the more talented players. I think that's fair. Yeah. I don't know. Well, I would like to attack on him.
C
I'm gonna go second if you guys don't mind. Really quickly because I think it kind of dovetails off of what field said I. First off, I think the first round is exactly what you should expect in a super flex league. We saw the first five quarterbacks come off the board in a super flex league, and I think that's about right. More often than not, six actually went to start. Did Joe Burrow come off as well? I didn't realize Burrow was part of that overall, so that was one of my major takeaways. And then I like that people pivoted. Don't force the quarterback spot. Right. When you're in a super flex league, sometimes you feel like you need to force a quarterback. I think people did the right thing in grabbing some nice skill position players. My takeaway is that I had a perfect draft except for the sixth round.
B
Perfect.
C
And if I changed it. Let's just take a look at this really quickly. If I change this up and in the sixth round, I don't take Jadarian Price and instead I Take the guy that you just talked about, Ameka Abuka, who was on the board. My lineup. Drake May, Baker Mayfield, James Cook, Omarion Hampton, Ameca Abu, Jameson Williams, Colston Loveland, DK Metcalf. With either Marvin Harrison Jr. Or Michael Wilson and a 12 team league, the idea that Ameka Abuka can be my wide receiver 1 and JMO can be my wide receiver 2 rather than Jameson Williams being my wide receiver 1 and DK being my wide receiver too. I like this a lot more. Even though I love Jadarian Price. I didn't need that second or the third running back. Excuse me. I could have done a lot better here. So I like this move. This is my non regret lineup. Other than that, I'd love to roll into the season with this kind of a squad.
A
Can I just give you my takeaway from looking at that draft? Was that listed like the left column was your picks 1 through 5 and the right column was 6 through 10 in the. In sequential order.
C
I did not see it.
A
Okay. I think it was. I'm assuming it was because that would be the most logical way to present. Yeah. Straight May. How the Marvin Harrisons have fallen. Oh my gosh. It's just, it's, it's still jarring to see Marvin Harrison Jr. As what I think was your ninth round. Yes. I mean, it's like a lesson and you know, it's one of those where it wasn't fantasy analysts and people in the media that were just hyping up Marvin Harrison Jr. I'll continue to go back to this. The Arizona Cardinals are the fourth pick in the draft. They could have easily moved back in the draft because that was the year in which obviously it won. Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels, Drake May, 1, 2, 3 at quarterback. They could have fetched something for somebody that wanted to move up for a J.J. mcCarthy, a Bo Nix, maybe a Michael Pennix Jr. Seemed like probably J.J. mcCarthy was the most likely quarterback the teams are going to move up for. Wisely, they did not. As you can tell so far, the card was like, no, we have to hang tight because we need this player. Marvin Harrison Jr. Yeah, they bypassed offers to move down and that's how strongly they felt. So it wasn't just us who felt that way about Marvin Harrison Jr. It was the league, it was the Cardinals. And two years in the investment has not been worth it at all. They just can't find a way to consistently feature the player to the point that in fantasy drafts he's going to the ninth round in the Super Flex League crazy.
B
Yeah. And not dead in the water yet by any means. Year three, Well, I remember when I started in this industry, it was like, I don't even bother with receivers till year three. Like, they're just useless. And unless they're maybe like the.
A
Devonte Adams is a good player for him.
B
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Perfect example. Yeah, but that was common back then. It was. That was the rule. It was the rule with like year two quarterbacks. Now it's like year three receivers back then. So this is year three for him. It's going to be a big year to make a leap. It's going to be obviously a new offense. It's not going to be. It's not going to be the offense we saw with Arizona in the second half last year where they were just like, we're going to throw it every time. And that's why a lot of stats were inflated for guys like Trey McBride, who made a big leap from Murray to Brissette, as well as, of course, Michael Wilson. And actually Harrison had a big game with Brissette, but he just didn't play much because he was injured most of the season. And that was another reason Wilson was so good. So there's still hope here and I'm kind of fascinated in what should be a. An upgraded offensive system here if he can kind of get it going in year three. Very fascinating player.
C
Mike, gimme your quick takeaways from this draft.
B
Yeah, mine is just, look, if you pick at the early portion of round one in Super Flex.
A
Yeah.
B
Take a superstar quarterback, that's fine. But to your point that you just made, you don't have to force it after that because there's going to be a lot of value. You got Patrick Mahomes at what I thought he was maybe the best value at the seventh pick in the third round.
A
I was going to say it, but
B
I figured, you know, actually, no, it's wrong because I. Bo, Nick's a little ahead of him and he went at 310, so.
C
Tease.
B
Teased. You gotcha. Matthew Stafford. I took the 11th pick of the third round. So it's Mahomes, Nick Stafford in the third, fifth round. Baker Mayfield and I took Daniel Jones. Then Malik Willis goes the next pick. And even guys like Sam Darnold as your number two going in the sixth round of a Super Flex. Just a decent floor play. Cam Ward, a breakout player. Again, a year two quarterback goes in the eighth round. So you have options. You don't have to force it because remember, you might think I don't want Darnold as my two or Daniel Jones. But you're going to have superstars everywhere else because you address them early and that's going to give you an edge.
A
I want to use this as an opportunity for us to remind or maybe this is to all of us, us on the show, viewers, listeners, producers. I think there's a good segment or even a full show that is the players I fear I'm just too low on and Cam Ward to be one of those guys where I'm having a hard time jamming him up my rankings much higher than I currently have them. At the same time, I do think there's a world in which Cam Ward makes a huge leap and I'm like, dang it, why didn't I have Cam Ward As a top 15 quarterback going into the season? Obviously, if I felt completely convinced he would be inside my top 15 quarterback for there's an interesting list of players I think you come up with. It's like I don't have them ranked as high as I would like to, but I am simultaneously afraid that if I don't get some exposure to them right I'm going to have some major regret during the middle.
B
Agreed. But the answer the reason he's not higher is like, okay, once you reach a point where it's worth taking flyers like that, there's still so much talent at quarterback right now. Like in that 10 to 20 range, there's so many good options.
A
Daniel Jones is like my quarterback 17, right. He's an established really like I think if he got the Daniel Jones fantasy level, I'd be pumped for cambord. And Daniel Jones is at quarterback 17.

A
I understand we have questions from the chat.
C
Yeah, let's see what we got. A couple questions from the chat on the mock draft. First one here comes from Veronica. How much did the draft One of the best, most loyal listeners we love, Veronica. How much did the draft position matter in selecting teams, do you up with a strategy or adapt to the other players based on where you're at in the draft? It does kind of make a difference. I go in with this mentality. It's not necessarily a strategy like I have to execute 0 RB or I have to execute this thing, but I do go in with I would like to walk away with these players if I can.
B
Yeah.
C
And then if the draft allows me, I take those players. If not, then I pivot. And it really is. I don't want to say that simple, but you just do enough research. That's the pivot if you need to for me.
A
So I think both questions that Veronica are both factors that Veronica mentioned in the second portion of that question matter, which is like do you have a strategy relative to your slot or do you adapt based off of the other drafters in the room? The slot matters to me in this way and we've talked about this many times before, but let's reiterate it. If you're picking towards the end of round one, you know you're going to have big gaps between your every other round picks.
B
Yep.
A
If you want to play your better, just take them. Just don't worry about it. Because the worst feeling in a draft is when you overthink it. You think you can just let that player fall into your lap at your next pick and then you miss him by two or three picks. So that's how the draft slot matters to me. But I'm always adapting. We talked about this live during the draft yesterday at some Point. You could do the math, right? If it's the third round and half of the teams have already taken two quarterbacks, you're not likely to see those six teams take a quarterback sometime again soon. And then you can kind of see, all right, I'm four picks away of those players ahead of me. Three of them or two of them have already taken two quarterbacks. I probably have a quarterback coming my way. If none of them have taken a quarterback, you better prepare for your best flex option to be your next pick.
B
Always be adapting. Aba. Hashtag aba. That's a thing.
A
It is.
B
No, it's not. I made that up.
C
Oh, you gotta have some of that, like mental, gymnastic.
B
I'm always ability. Always, always gymnastic. Ability.
C
Yeah.
B
That's a word too. Yeah. We're just making stuff up.
C
You know what I mean?
B
We need a dictionary, a focused dictionary for this year.
A
Yes, I have. I told you guys this yesterday. I was cleaning out my basement recently and I found a pretty well maintained set of encyclopedias. So I don't have a dictionary, but I do have encyclopedias.
B
We need them here so that we can look these words up.
C
They're probably not worth anything.
A
Dang. I was hoping you guys were like, oh, yeah, Encyclopedia Britannicas are worth $10,000 each and you have eight of them.
C
Are they gold leafed?
A
Yes.
C
Then they. Then I'll come over to your house after.
B
I think someone was trying. Somebody is trying to send you a message. You're like, you need to start reading, man. Learn some words. Learn some words, bro.
C
Next one comes from Matto. Wants to know, if you had two leagues, would you try to avoid taking the same player in round one in both drafts? Are you guys diversifying?
B
No, not.
A
This is a great question.
B
It is a great question. Not necessarily. We do more than two, so it's like tricky because you can never really just get the same guys. I don't have a problem with it because you can look at it either way. You can look at it as. Look, first of all, what's the goal? The goal is not to finish second or third or make the playoffs. It's to win the league. Right? So if you get. If you're like, puka Nuku is my guy. That's who I want. He's the guy. I wanted that spot. And you take him in both and he's himself, you have a great chance to make the playoffs and win the championship. Obviously, if he gets hurt or something. You don't, but I mean, you can't really play that game. I don't think. I just take the best guy on the board.
C
I would love. And we don't get to do this because we're in too many leagues. I'd love to be able to feel like I can just root for a fantasy player without the caveat of knowing that I'm also playing against him in about four of the leagues that I'm rooting for. Right. So it's just like sometimes it would be nice to just have two versions. I get CD Lamb in both leagues and I'm all in on CD Lamb and I never have to root against him.
A
All right, so if it's just two leagues, fair thoughts from you guys. But let's be honest. We're sickos and so are a lot of the people that are watching or listening right now, and they probably play in a half dozen leagues or more.
C
I hope so.
A
This is pro. This, this may well be to my detriment, but I've never finished worse than first in a fantasy league, so apparently it's working. Interesting. No reaction from Mike. Mike is just non plus the.
C
He's still tired.
B
He's. He's in one team leagues. We know that.
A
We've.
B
We've addressed this.
A
No, I, I am like, I have such gigantic fomo. If at the end of our many drafts that we do. And I would say the average number of leagues I play in is on the low end, 10 on the high end, probably 16, 17 in a given year. If there's a megastar I don't have, it gnaws at me. Like, if at the end of this year's draft cycle I've come away with no, honestly, it's usually the guys at the very top. No Bijan or Jameer Gibbs. Because you have to get lucky enough to get the first or second pick to get them. Most likely it's going to just bother me all season long. So I like to diversify the portfolio. I'm always trying to win each league and I'm so. I'm always roster constructing based off of who I took early in the draft. But I want exposure to every notable player. Every single one.
B
Yeah, fair enough. I mean, I don't, I don't think about it that way. Just like, I don't spend much time looking at bye weeks. I'm just like, oh, bye weeks. If he's at the top of my board, I'm taking the guy.
A
Yeah, bye weeks. I don't care about as much either, but dude, I definitely, like, I need to some skin to the game.
B
I will say this like best ball. Certainly I'm more likely to diversify there. You don't want. You know, early on I was taking so much Jeremiah Love. He was just coming and I was like, all right, I have too much here. Yeah. If it doesn't work out, I'm burnt in best ball. So it just kind of depends on your format as well.
C
All right, last one we have here comes from Justin Stoddard. League I am in has a draft order being set 30 minutes prior to the draft. What's the best way for you guys to prepare for this?
B
This is what we just said, aba. Always, always be adapting. Yeah.
C
I think you need to do part of this is do a bunch of mock drafts so that you can understand how the board is breaking because that's as much preparation as you can do. You don't get the option, the luxury of knowing where you're going to be drafting from. So just get used to seeing how the board usually breaks and that will help you identify value because you're like, oh, usually Jeremiah Love has gone eight picks before this. And unless you see stuff like that. So I think just being able to dive in and be a part of the mock draft exercise is very valuable.
B
Yep.
A
Okay, so I do want people to chime in. If you're listening, send us a tweet. If you're watching right now, hit us up in chat or tweet at us, whatever you prefer. Maybe tomorrow we can run through a list of the best ways to determine your draft order. Oh, yes, because you know, if it's just automatically generated, the result is still important, but the process to get there is kind of uninspiring. So I want to know the best way you in your leagues decide the draft order.
B
I like that field.
C
I like it.
A
We do a 40 yard dash every year in the FF Now League, which is why Mike has picked 12th each
B
of every single year.
C
That's true.
B
Didn't we do an obstacle course for draft order one time and how that end I don't remember. What Yowzer.
A
Well, Mike, did you make it on tmz?
B
Yeah, I did. I was. I was standing there healthy as you were walking like this as mean Mike. I tried to get them to start 40 times on on that but they didn't do it.
C
Yeah.
A
Honestly, what a bad self own that was for me.
C
Yeah, it wasn't great.
B
You set that up. It was almost too easy. I was like, should I do it?
A
The answer is always, always, always.
B
Oh, I mean, I did it all
C
right, guys, let's talk about some training camps. Let's do it.
A
Yeah, we're back, boys. Let's do it.
C
Training camp is back. 10 days into camp. What do we need to know? A couple of things that are going on. We honestly just brought a bunch of camp buzz.
A
Yeah.
C
Stuff that has sort of caught our attention. Field, I'm going to start with you. What's one of the things that you've just been gnawing at you that you've seen from camp?
A
By the way, just before we get into this, Keith reminds me that Tristan does the column. Yes, Tristan H. Cockroft. The H stands for happy. It's going to be available on ESPN.com it's the best picks from each draft slot.
B
Love that.
A
So it's a helpful tool if you have one all the way through, however many teams are in your leagues. All right, so it's 10ish days into camp. Some of the biggest stuff that we have heard from camp and we're going to scrape a little bit deeper than this. But to me, the single most important thing for fantasy that I've seen so far in training camp is that after an off season where it looked like he might be out for four to six games, Malik Neighbors looks like he's going to be available week one.
C
That is my number one, too.
A
Jordan Renan. All right, so we're all in lockstep there. Jordan Renan noted that barring a setback, Malik Neighbors is expected to play Week 1 against the Cowboys. If you care, he has owned the Cowboys in three games. Let's be honest, most receivers have owned the Cowboys recently. But bleak Neighbors, I mean, if he, if you knew you were going to have him available in week one, he'd be going much higher than where we have seen him routinely go. Which getting him in the middle of the third round frequently.
C
This is just a great question. Why don't we look at a full screen really quickly? Because my question is if you say by September 1st. Right. Right now it's August 10th.
A
Yep.
C
He's going off the board. It's wide receiver 14 ADP of 38. That's the fourth round.
A
That's insane. 38th.
B
Yeah.
C
30th. So if we get to, let's say, September 1st, we're like the week before the season starts. These are the wide receivers that are going ahead of Malik Neighbors. How high do you think he would rise for you? Where would you want to be taking him if you thought he was fully healthy heading into the season?
A
I can tell you where I have him. I already have him. Ranked wide receiver nine.
B
You're at nine.
A
It's right. It's like neck and neck with A.J. brown, so.
B
But you're still hedging a little bit or no. Like, are you still.
A
That's like about as high as I'll go with male because I do think that he is more talented than some of the players ranked inside the first eight of wide receivers. And while I expect him to play in week one, I also think the Giants will be a little bit judicious with him. Not enough to move him much further down than wide receiver nine.
B
Sure.
A
But I think wide receiver nine is a good range for.
B
I think that's totally fair. I think Drake London's probably my measuring stick right there. I mean this guy, neighbors, I mean it's easy to forget how dominant he was. And some numbers here. Yeah, he was. You want. You want to do it or not?
A
Rookie receiving record in terms of catch. I'm the stat guy. So you tell us, you tell us.
B
35% target share over 11 targets per game. He was top 30 in scoring all but two weeks, which is just to have that floor is incredible. Including 10 straight weeks to finish that rookie season. I mean think about that floor you had in your line of every week. Not to mention the ceiling he delivered. What's interesting about him though is not to mention coming off the injury, this is where there's. This could be good or bad, some of this coming off the injuries, the bad part. But you have Jackson Dart who has thrown ready for this three passes to him.
A
It's crazy.
B
Last year just three passes he's thrown in a regular season game. You have a new head coach, you have a new play caller. There's all just a lot of changes in New York. So as we've seen, like I'm trying to think of an example or think Brian Thomas, right. Like we talked about this yesterday, very good connection with Mac Jones, not as much with Trevor Lawrence. So we don't really know what the dark to neighbors connection is. We don't know what this offense is going to look like necessarily so. So there's more question marks than just is he fully healthy? But I believe in the talent. So as far as I'm concerned you get past the like Saint Brown, Lamb, Jefferson and then that's the line. I think London neighbors, Rasheed Rice, I think they're all right in there.
C
So you'd have him after Drake London, but ahead of Rasheed Rice, AJ Brown,
B
I would say eight is where I
C
would put him right in that range
B
because Rice has questions of it.
C
Just for the podcast listeners at home that didn't get a chance to see the full screen, the wide receivers that are right next to him, we're talking about Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, George Pickens, Nico Collins, AJ Brown, and Rashi Rice. I think I'd have him inside the top 10 and he'd probably be right in that 8 to 9 range. I'd probably have him ahead of Nico and right in that A.J. brown conversation, which I think is very close to where you've got him feel.
B
And I'm to be clear, I'm still hedging a little bit more in the rankings. I have him in the closer to 14 right now, but I'm monitoring this. So the more optimism there is, that'll be a full. Because we don't know he can be limited the first few weeks. You know, like, I'm, I'm, I'm still trying to get a feel.
C
We need no setbacks. We need. We still need to get to the start of the season.
B
There's still a reason to hedge a little bit.
A
Maybe we can package these into one show. But another, I think very notable preseason topic is the biggest ranking changes you've seen from. Call it July 30 to August 30. Because things do, of course, things change, right? Injuries, performances, what coaches have to say about things, reporting from boots on the ground. Like, all this stuff impacts things and Malik Neighbors has a chance to be a riser in rankings.
B
I like your fields. Just live producing the show. Like future shows. Like, let's just write down we got this show we're going to do on Tuesday. We're doing this show Tuesday. We got this one.
A
I'm high on these ideas.
C
Yes.
B
Yeah.
C
Mike, give me one of your training camp buzzes. What. What's.
B
So one of my favorite things to do. And like, again, we, we monitor social. We're seeing all the commentary from beat reporters and our fellow analysts out there. And some of them are. Many of them are very exceptional. The industry is great in that regard. We have so much talent out there, but it's just funny to just see guys get get hyped up out of nowhere. And sometimes, like, you just have to really understand and pick your spots when it matters because sometimes a guy will get hyped up for being the training camp star and that. It's like a day three rookie and that just means, like, they're gonna make the team. Like, they're doing so well.
C
Sure.
B
They're not gonna be in the practice squad or get waves. They're making the 53.
C
I was just gonna say that.
A
Cyrus.
B
Oh, I have a list here, so I'm okay. There's a couple of these guys who I think it's worth taking notes of other guys where it's just like, like this is not worth your time. Okay. So Stribling for San Francisco.
C
John Stribling.
B
Yep. Is an example of a player who it's worth paying attention to because I got injury.
A
Third overall pick.
B
Yeah. Mike Evans has had injury issues recently. He's 33 years old. Like, this is a guy who the hype is worthwhile because this guy could start. He might be their leading target getter this year. And we know it's a highly efficient offense. Jacoby Lane in Baltimore. I'll have more even if he's exceptional. Right. Is he going to get past Rashad Bateman to be the two? Maybe he does and let's say he does that. Is that enough for him to be a starter in fantasy? Probably not.
A
So can I just give you a quick number to help answer that question for you? This will be. I'll get rid of one of my takeaways. Obviously it's a new offensive coordinator, so there's a chance that things change. But I still don't think this offense is going to limit Lamar Jackson entirely as a runner. During Lamar's starting tenure, his top pass catcher. Pass. Top wide receiver has been inside the top 23 once. That was actually Zay Flowers last year as wide receiver 13, the highest. The wide receiver 2 for the Ravens has ranked with Lamar as the starter.
B
Wait, let me guess on this 37th, 46.
A
That was Rashad Bateman two seasons ago. Oh, yeah. It just, you know, you just take away some passing volume because Lamar is going to run. You have the most durable, best power running back right now, at least of the last 20 years, probably in Derrick Henry. Like when you run the football, it chews up the clock. The game moves faster. Like, there's just probably fewer overall plays available. So while Jacoby Lane is having a great camp to the point that our Jameson Hensley said this and I quote, In 27 years of covering the Ravens, I'm not sure I've seen a rookie have a trading camp quite like wide receiver. Jacoby Lane.
B
Yeah, but that's my point. Like, even if it all goes great and he's the number two receivers that enough to be a fantasy starter, probably not.
A
I. I would say he is like the definition of like a 14th to 16th round pick at this point.
B
Yeah, exactly. So late round flyer, but that's it. And there's other examples. Ted Hurst is another one. Generally he's the future X of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But you have a Mecca Buka, you have Chris Godwin, you have. Yeah. You have Jalen McMillan, Tez Johnson.
A
I concur.
B
There's going to get a couple of kids like there's just too many mouths to beat. Trey Harris, same kind of thing with the Chargers. You still have Quentin Johnson and you obviously you still have lad McConkey. The tight ends, Brother Mouse defeat. You're not going to like this one. K Sean Booty, same thing. I mean they went out and got romeo Dobbs and A.J. brown. They're not just going to chill while Keisha Booty's out there. He'll have some big catches of some big plays but if he wasn't delivering last year in fantasy, you're going to tell me they're going to bring in Brown and Dobbs and then he's going to be a fantasy. No, no chance. Pat Bryant, same thing. Waddle and Sutton. Malachi Fields, maybe if he wins the two, but probably not. Brendan Thompson's getting hype. He's the real deal. I saw a quote the other day. He looks sure as a returner and adept guy but he's not going to. He's not going to make much noise. And the last one, I will, I will say this one could happen if there's an injury. But Colby Young is the fourth rounder for the Bengals only if Chaser Higgins get hurt. But that's not a draftable. So these are just like every day you see them. There's a report every day of a guy like this. You have to see through and decide, look, does he even have a path to fantasy relevance in almost all of these cases and these are guys that have got a lot of hype. The answer is probably not.
C
The disrespect to not even mention Isaac Tislaw is really.
B
I don't know. I actually he's one of the few I saw a negative. Yeah. Report on and I was going to say that unheard of.
C
Dan Campbell came out and said he's got to do more than just make one handed catches. He's going to block. He's going to block his butt off but he's got to do more than that.
B
He's not a guy that I think
C
is a sleeper necessarily, even though I love that Lion's offense.
A
What do you got?
C
Can I ask You a question about the Vikings, maybe?
A
Yes. What the question is, I give. I grant permission.
C
J.J. mcCarthy was really bad last year.
B
Yeah.
C
And we're 10 days into camp and we haven't named a starter.
A
No surprise.
C
Is that a no surprise thing to you?
A
They haven't named a starter, but they've named a starter.
C
How does that work? Why would they not name a starter then field.
A
Because it's a competition.
C
Why is it a. How is it a competition?
A
Because if Kyler Murray, I mean, we have what, how many more weeks until the games begin? Yeah, but weeks.
C
If you're Kyler Murray, you came in to start for this football team. Like, it's not. It shouldn't be a competition with how bad J.J. mcCarthy was.
A
Like, you came. Remember how far Kyler Murray had fallen?
C
Right.
A
I mean, the guy got cut and they had one of the biggest dead money cap charges ever. Like, Kyler was kind of radioactive in the world of the NFL. He's there making the minimum. Like, I think Kyler went there with an understanding that he has an awesome chance of being the week one starter. He's going to have to stay sharp to keep that job throughout the rest of the season. I'm not surprised. Like, I would say it's pretty rare that we see a team name a starter in a true competition this early in camp. Absent when it's the veteran. Ironically, he's in this situation again. Jacoby Brissette ahead of the rookie drafted quarterback like Drake May and now Carson Beck. I'm not surprised by it. Actually. One of my takeaways is that Kyler Murray is the likely QB one.
B
Really?
A
Yeah. I mean, I, I think that the Vikings want to see this process play out. Like if, if Kyler, you know, craps the bed for the next 10 days, then JJ probably does have some life. If he plays well.
C
It seems like he just has to. The idea that he hasn't been named the starter. I understand all the things that you're saying.
A
Yeah.
C
J.J. mcCarthy was just so bad that to feel like Kyler hasn't shown enough already is like, does that make me have to be nervous about what Kyler is bringing to the field right now?
A
Are you guys nervous?
B
I am not nervous. I think from the, the Vikings perspective, it's this. It's. If you are like, okay, Kyler's just the guy, you're accepting quarterback purgatory. Right. As a franchise for a while, just for a little while, you don't have your long term franchise quarterback, which is just massive in this game. There's nothing more important than hitting on that player. However, if you feel like, okay, we know what we have in Kyler Murray, here's the. Here's the line, and JJ McCarthy is able to eclipse that. That's great news for that franchise. That means, okay, this guy was a young quarterback in the league. He missed his whole first year, struggled in his SEC in his first de facto NFL season, but now he made a big leap, and suddenly he actually seems to be better than Kyler Murray. His trajectory is going up. This is huge for our franchise. That's why you don't name him. Yeah, I think you just. You just hope he improves. But I don't. I don't think it's so.
C
I don't run an NFL franchise. The part why that feels weird to me is if you wanted to bring in a veteran with the thought that maybe J.J. mcCarthy, J.J. mcCarthy was going to continue to make that, like, leap slowly, but we're getting there.
A
Yeah.
C
Then I don't think that I would want to bring in a guy that is still clearly going to try to be the starter, and I'm going to have some feelings if I'm not the guy. I think that an older quarterback would be a much better option, but who was.
A
So I guess we have to go back in time and go to March and say, all right, Kyler Murray, by the way, making $1.35 million pennies for an NFL quarterback, which is a crazy thing to say about $1.35 million in general. Who would you have preferred the Vikings pursued this offseason?
C
Her cousins?
B
I mean, I think you. I think Kyler is them aiming higher. A team that has.
A
I agree.
C
Aiming higher for what? But if you want J.J. mcCarthy to be the guy, then you're not aiming high on Kyler.
A
I think that's. Here's, I think, the untold part of this, Daniel. I don't think they believe in J.J. mcCarthy anymore.
C
That's. So that's where I'm at. If they don't believe in him, then why have they not just come out and said, kyler, you're.
B
You're hedging? I think you have to with a team that's built that way, too. Especially a guy like Kyler who has kind of evolved into, yes, he could run, but more conservative. Like, he's been better about just getting the ball in the hands of his skill guys. So it kind of fits. But you still want McCarthy motivated, and you want him to be the guy you drafted like you hoped you had when you you would have when you drafted him.
A
No team that's in a competition. And right now, obviously the Browns are in a competition. The Falcons, the Vikings are sort of the Cardinals, but not really. Like no one's named a starter that's in a true competition. So to me, I'm not bothered by it. I think J.J. mcCarthy. I think this point the best pathway forward for JJ McCarthy is a bad pathway for the Vikings, which is that Kyler starts, he plays so poorly and they have no choice but to roll out J.J. mcCarthy. But this is always a dynamic that we have in play.
C
What does that mean for Justin Jefferson if they have to make the move to JJ McCarthy because it's that bad?
A
I don't think the good quarterback play, our bad quarterback play, I'm going to screw this up. But like Justin Jefferson can still have bad quarterback play and be a great fantasy player. Like the guy was dominant.
B
Atrocious. Yeah.
A
Well, just. I mean, it can be atrocious as long as they throw the football to Justin Jefferson.
C
That's right.
A
I mean like, wasn't good, but like the year in which they were trotting out Nick Mullins and Jaren hall, like it wasn't like it was great quarterback.
C
Correct.
B
But they got the ball due to outlier. I think they're. It's just set up to be about a 500 team. I just think that with Kyler, you know, I think he's serviceable, but it's just the future of the franchise.
C
I didn't mean to make us linger on Kyler Murray for so long.
A
No Chargers offensive lineman is hurt right now. Love that.
B
Huge.
A
That's huge.
B
Huge.
A
Right? And I saw a chart recently and I'm totally throwing up.
B
Like, who is?
A
We'll talk about that in a second. Which teams have seen the most attrition or change amongst their offensive line? And the Chargers are near the top of that list because of two players returning from injury and Joe Alt and also Rashan Slater and then some changes they made personnel wise.
C
And it's not just two players.
B
There's like two, like.
A
Yeah, like all pro level tackles. You know, they drafted a Jake Slaughter in the second round. Like they signed Cole Strange. Like it's good.
B
Yeah.
A
Like I wouldn't want it if, you know, if. If the. Whoever you thought with the Rams changed out a bunch of offensive linemen, I'd be like, that's not great. The Rams had a good offensive line last year. The Chargers, everybody should have been under evaluation. That's really good. So it just it for as great as. As as my hope is for this offense. The offensive line is the way in which the wheels could fall off fastest. Yes, they are talking about. Mike McDaniel had a quote yesterday which now what Tuesday. He had it on Monday about like bad news for fantasy owners. Like everybody is going to eat. You know, all three running backs are going to play a real role. Many people have already dug up Comments from Mike McDaniel two years ago when he talked about how there are four starters in the backfield. Then Devon HM went on to become RB5 for the season. I still think Amari Hampton is the guy. I just said that Keaton Mitchell's role will be real enough to bite away at some of Hampton's value. But for the overall wellness of the offense, the fact that no Chargers offensive lineman is hurt, good news. Hampton was hurt by it last year. He had 124 carries last season. Did Omarion Hampton. He had just three explosive runs for a 6 foot 2, 220 pound backer. Runs 4, 4, 4. Like that's not a good rate. And I think a lot of it was chalked up to just how bad the offensive line was.
B
Are we talking about that running back commentary? Do we have any further thought? We talked about Hampton yesterday.
A
Yeah. I mean he's 5, I'm 12 or 13 on Hampton. You're sort of in the middle.
B
I think I said yesterday. So kind of in that range. So you're not adjusting based on comment.
C
They have the Mitchell love.
A
Yeah. We have a board bet on CMC versus Amari and Hampton for the season.
B
Yes, cmc. Hampton. Who has who?
C
I have Hampton.
A
I have cmc.
B
Okay. We're gonna talk about.
C
We'll talk about.
B
We will get to the thoughts on that. Interesting. Yeah, I love that though.
C
This is huge for fantasy because it's not just Hampton. Everyone. I mean Justin Herbert should be better. Lad McConkey should be better. That's. That will be massive for the whole.
B
Yeah, I still, I'm not. I don't think I'm moving the needle much on Hampton. Maybe it would break a tie here
A
based off the comments you're saying.
B
Yeah, but I think the bottom line is if like last year when both guys were healthy, it was. I mean it was Hampton. I mean they wanted to go to him as their feature back. You took him in the first round. I still would say he's very clearly the better player.
A
Of course over.
B
So I'm not worried about him. And yeah, Keith Mitchell's gonna have a role in the Offense, we already know that that's already baked in. So I, I, yeah, I'm not super worried about him.
C
Keaton Mitchell is Fields Kaylin Balage for this season.
A
No. But I think I have him ranked like RB 49.
C
That's exactly right. Yes.
A
It has very little to do with the standalone value of Keith Mitchell. It has a lot to do with just if you're trying to decide whether a Mario Hampton or Derrick Henry should be your second round pick, a nice way to break that tie for me is take Derek Henry because of Keaton Mitchell now playing for the Chargers, not the Ravens.
B
Fair enough. Not that Mitchell did much in Baltimore anyway.
A
Yeah. But it just like I think he's got, you know, I think he's going to have, it's not even upside. I just think he's going to have a role like again, like they didn't pay him $6 million to just be a special teams guy.
B
Oh, you're right.
A
Right. So like if he's playing 35% of the snaps, whatever. If he's playing 25% of the offensive snaps and Kamani Vidal is playing 20% of the offensive snaps, Amarian Hampton at 55% of the snaps is different than Amarian Hampton at 65% of the snaps.
C
I will be writing Mike McDaniel a strongly worded letter. If Omarion Hampton's playing only 55% of
A
the snaps, it's possible. Mike, what do you got?
B
All right. Mine is the Washington offense. I think that is one that is obviously had a lot of news so far in training camp. We had a major injury. So first you're like, oh, this could be a problem for this offense with Laramie Tunsil going out for maybe the whole regular season, but certainly a big chunk. One of the best left tackles in the NFL. I, in my unit grades, I dropped Washington to 32nd. With their current offensive line, a system
C
that could change a little bit in the NFL.
B
There are 32 teams. Yeah. So they fell to dead last. They're already shaky. But Tunsil is one of the best tackles in the NFL, so that is a huge loss. However, just moments later, a couple days later, they signed Stefan Diggs. So that upgrades the offense a little bit. I think at the bottom line is I, I'm not moving the needle much for Jaden Daniels. I'm a little concerned about the offensive line, but his supporting cast is better than what he has had and obviously adds a lot of value with his legs, which is huge. Also, as part of this is JCM hype a Little bit. Can this guy be involved in the passing game is the question and that is huge for him because if he if cross key Merritt is not involved in the passing game, he's just not going to be a starter in fantasy and he wasn't last year and that really cost him. Rashad White is obviously there and going to be involved in that backfield. But I'm very interested to see if they try to feature JCM in the backfield or in the, in the passing game during the preseason a little bit because if we can get to up hit 30, 40 catches there could be something there. But so far the hype is strong there.
C
Interesting.
A
Yeah, I'm low. I'm low. I have not adjusted my JCM rankings yet. I have a heart. I mean they were like totally disinterested in throwing the football.
B
I know.
A
Like it was. He was one of those guys. We used to see this with the Patriots all the time where it was like you had the running back that played on running downs and you had the running back to play in the passing downs and, and say whatever you want about Rashad White as a runner and his efficiency. He'll hit you up on Instagram if that happens. That's a callback to when he DM'd like angrily a few years ago. Yeah, he is an effective pass catching running back so wouldn't surprise me if he does maintain that role in DC And JCM is still the guy that you know the traditional running downs. He is the man.
C
I got one more please.
A
Go for it.
C
I'm just really pumped that Daniel Jones looks like he's been playing well and looks healthy. That has been fantastic. Not just for Daniel Jones because he's one of those late round quarterbacks that you can wait on, but I think for the offense as well. You look at Michael Pittman and what he has done over the last five years in Indianapolis, the dude has been a target monster. At least 111 targets for five straight seasons and now he's going to leave this offense and we already know that when you look at it, we're have the full screen up here. It'll be able to see all the things that Michael Pittman did. 1111-101541-42129 ton of volume. Yeah, he was wide receiver 20 or higher in four of the last five seasons. So he is getting a ton of production as well. And now they signed Alec Pierce to a bunch of money started on the PUP list still there and we're going to see what that means because it's also. They're kind of talking about a role change with him. You know, role changes. This is the time of year when it would be really valuable to be out there if you're going to have a role change. To be honest, Josh Downs also has a groin injury. We've never seen him be the Alpha, the number one. It feels like Tyler Warren last year who had 111 targets. Would it be crazy to you guys to say that he has upwards of 140 to 150 targets this season?
A
That's a big number.
C
But no, that's like an extra two targets per game.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah. I think that seems high to me. Let me see what I have him at.
A
It would seem like Alec Pierce and Josh Downs, like remaining on the sideline would lead to that. It would also include who else are
C
they throwing inertia behind those two.
A
It also would require some inertia. Like the core Colts feel like a prime make a trade for a wide receiver.
C
There's nobody. Ashton Doolin and who else is there?
A
Who else is the wide Nick Westbrook.
B
Right. Like Nick Westbrook reference.
C
You're not doing that. Like we're throwing the ball to Tyler Warren. And by the way, I talked about the adot last week. Like this is just a prime situation where yesterday I said, you know what, because of the Luther Burden thing, I might move Colson Loveland finally ahead of Tyler Warren.
A
You change your mind?
C
When I look back in on this, I'm all I think Tyler Warren with what his target share could be in this offense could finish as the tight end one in fantasy with the volume that he's potentially going to get from Daniel Jones and he's going to carry the ball.
B
Could get a rushing touchdown miss in there as well. But I'm a little mad because you are talking right now about two of my most drafted players. Oh, Michael Pittman is my most drafted player.
C
I love Michael Pittman by far.
A
Really.
C
Rogers also can't throw the ball more than five yards down.
B
I mean Pittman going in the eighth round. I mean last year I left him and he was going in the 10th round. Now he's only moving up to the 8th after a certain other certified terrific season. And Tyler Warren's my value target at tight end. He's I've been going after at that tier all year long. So. All right, well, mad at you right now for stealing. Sorry about that my guys but and
C
I'm just pumped that Daniel Jones is healthy because we'd be having a different conversation if there was a different quarterback under center, no offense field. Jeez. But I am. Just because. Never mind. No, just because. You know why what's happening? Because every Anthony Richardson understands. Oh, I was the only.
B
I was out. Speaking of guys having negative training camp reports, there's maybe like three guys.
A
I can't get a bag of peanuts for him right now.
C
No, it's tough.
B
No, no, no.
A
My last one a deeper cut and I'll make it quick here. Makai Lemon's been dealing with an injury for Philly and his absence, first of all puts like a little bit of cold water on the idea of him. Him being like an early star for the Eagles. And then second of all, Dontavia and Wicks, this kind of goes hand in hand. Has looked really sharp. There was a time in which Nick Sirianni invoked some Keenan Allen when describing Dontavian Wick's game. You know, this precise route runner, reliable hands, middle of the field maven.
C
There are worse guys to be compared to than Allen.
A
And I think coaches tend to do this. Like obviously Nick Sirianni knows that Kenan Allen's a future hall of Famer. Damian Wicks is just as like yet to be more than a wide receiver 3. But there are shades of what he brings to the table that remind you of what Keenan Allen brought to the table. Maybe still brings to the table. And so Don Tavian Wicks has emerged as sort of like the late round Philly flyer that I like as much as any other wide receiver.
B
Totally fine with that. I feel similar to Lemon in that I haven't drafted him really at all because this is you had former Heisman Trophy winning super I maybe we don't go as far as superstar but he's a star. Devonte Smith, right. He was kind of in the shadow of A.J. brown, which is kind of my point. He was kind of like under the radar but a very good player as far as number two receivers go. He is excellent. One of the best in the NFL. And yet he kind of struggled like to he was like hanging on as a wide receiver too. Usually in the wide receiver three conversation points per game. When A.J. brown. Brown was out there, it took that level of player just to hang on to borderline wide receiver, two numbers. And now he, you know, A.J. brown's gone. Smith moves into that one spot which is good for him. But is there enough target volume to support another wide receiver?
A
That's the question.
B
It is a new offense, but it's still Jalen hurts and he's still going to be. He's still going to run the ball out. You still say Barkley, Dallas Goddard's gonna have a 20% target share. There are, I think it's me hard to get consistent fantasy production from the second receiver in that offense this year. That's just my thought.
A
Late round flyer for me for that. Agreed. And I'll say this last thing. I'll say nobody knows that offense on the roster better than Tom Wicks. He's the guy that came over from maybe they have a couple other guys that were scrap heap type players. But the biggest packer to change teams to Philadelphia this offseason is Don Tavian

C
All right, now time for my favorite segment. Wtf Mike Clay. I love it. Where we just ask you what's wrong with your brain.
B
I'm not, I'm not that high. I'm not that high. I'm not like wildly high. I'm, I'm so high.
A
I'm so high.
B
I'm so high in love. Me too. I'm high as well.
A
You are so high today.
B
Oh, God. I was high and not sleeping is what I was.
C
Is that what it was? Yeah.
A
I hope that makes the chat laugh as much as it makes us laugh.
B
That was fun. It was fun time. Well done, Mike.
C
You got a couple of rankings that we just think are absolutely ridiculous. You were clearly using the ganja when this happened.
B
Some of them you. Some of them. YouTube should be debating because there are some players you guys brought up who I'm like, I have the same ranking, but the one of you is like, way off.
A
Listen, anytime we can make Mike the foil.
B
Yes, exactly.
C
That's what it's all about.
B
Defend everything it well, clearly.
C
All right, I, I, it looks like you were on vacation when you did a lot of these rankings, so I want to start with this Justin Herbert. He's got him at quarterback six. You've got him at quarterback 14. That's not even the same zip code.
A
You want to defend your honor?
C
Yeah, let's. We've heard Fields argument. I want to hear it again, but I want to hear yours first. Why are you so out on Justin Herbert?
B
Yeah, so let's think about last year. First of all, we'll start there. Okay, so Inside the top 10 in pass attempts, passing yards, touchdowns. Very productive. And he ran a lot too. Fifth and carry second in rushing yards yards among quarterbacks. Career highs there. So that all sounds pretty good, right?
A
Yeah.
B
He finished 10th at quarterback in fantasy points last year. Good. And had five top five fantasy weeks. No other finish is better than 13th. So it wasn't. Even with those pretty big passing and rushing numbers, he didn't quite get to a ceiling where he was delivering consistently elite numbers. So there's that now after last season, if you look at it on a points per game basis, he has finished between 11th and 15th each of the past four seasons. 11th to 15th each of the past four Seasons. He has one finish in his entire career better than 8th a quarterback. So we've seen him have an elite season one time so far this season. I know that the offensive line is healthy, which is obviously good for him. The new play play caller in Mike McDaniel. McDaniel had some success currently in Miami, but not all the time. He's not employed as their head coach anymore. And the offense was a disaster last season and was kind of of all over the map while he was there. I think Justin Herbert, with how deep quarterback is, is a fringe quarterback one. But I don't think he should be ranked sixth where you have him. 6. There's just too many safer, better, more polished, more productive options at quarterback.
A
I am so high on Justin Herbert.
B
I could see that.
A
But like, but like. So what you said is fair about how the offense last year was not good. That was a tua tunga by loa problem. Like the quarterback was the issue in Miami. I do not believe the system or the person calling the plays. The two years prior to Mike McDaniel showing up in Miami, the Dolphins were 27th in yards per play, third in yards per game. In those two years after he got there, when guys actually stayed healthy and performed capably, they were first in yards per play and third in yards per game. Like this is just a system that is sort of a fantasy cheat code. So we can certainly be, you know, agree to disagree. I've used the stat a couple times. He had seven games last year. Did Herbo with 225 pass passing yards and 30 or more rushing yards. Versatile player, great system.
B
I'm in by the way.
C
Better offensive line in LA or Miami?
A
That would be la, all right.
C
And better skill position players around the quarterback.
A
I mean, by the end of last season it got really Thin it was real bad. But at the beginning of last year, a tyree killed Jalen Waddle. Devon Hn skill group is better than what I think he has to work with right now in la.
B
So you have just a quick. Do you finish, finish that?
C
No, no, that's it. I just, I. I'm more on field side than your side.
B
Okay.
C
But he.
B
Yeah, you're at nine, you have him at six. So you have Allen Daniels, Jackson may hurt Burrow. You have him over one of those guys.
A
Burrow. Yeah.
B
You have him over Burrow?
A
Yep.
B
Wow. All right.
A
This is going to be great. This is good tracking here.
B
Yeah. Wow. All right.
A
All right, let's keep it rolling. Like think about a board better or something.
C
What's wrong with your brain when you are thinking about Christian McAffrey? Because I thought you were the numbers guy. Right. And this is what I'm having a hard time understanding. Christian McAffrey is 30. I've heard my friend Mike Clay talk about 30 year old running back incessantly over the last years. He also had 450 touches last season. My friend Mike Clay talk about how you want to fade heavy workloads after historically large seasons and yet you've got CMC as RB3. So as the number guy that has made this argument before, why are you still in on cmc? You have met three, two field. That's okay. All right. That's what.
B
But here's this thing. Do you guys see this? Like these things that float around once in a while, there's only a few of them and in fantasy they're stars. They float around.
C
What are they?
B
You know what they are? They're. They're just gently gliding through the air. They're unicorns, these things called unicorns. And very few of them, okay, in the NFL, even in NFL history, these guys generally go to the hall of Fame, in fact. And I would say Christian McCaffrey fits the bill, much like Derek Henry as a unicorn at the running back position. And yes, I've done a lot of analysis on this during this off season about, you know, age curves for running backs and obviously a lot of these guys will start to fall off. And we've seen it with Dalvin Cook and Joe, Joe Mixon and Aaron Jones in recent years. But guys like Henry and McCaffrey can seem to defy it. And I think we saw that a little bit last year too with McAffrey, whose efficiency was not good. He infamously didn't have what, a 20 yard run until week 18 or 17, something like that. Yards per carry was down but he was still number one at running back in snaps, routes, touches, targets, catches, touches, receiving yards, receiving, touchdowns and of course the big one, fantasy points. And here's the thing. When McCaffrey is healthy, which he's been three of the last four years, it's easy to forget that because he's had these years where he's missed a lot of time. But three last four years he's played 16 plus games. But in his career, if you look at. Or let me, let me rephrase that because we're going to exclude his rookie year when he was still kind of limited getting used to the NFL and Carolina. But his last five healthy seasons when he's played 16 plus games, he's finished third, first, second first and first in fantasy points per game at the running back position. The guy's a unicorn. He's still in this Kyle Shanahan led offense. He's going to be heavily involved as a rusher and of course as a receiver. I think he again, I can't say anything more than it's impossible to knock him in the projections too far because he is just so heavily involved and a unicorn at the position. So I'll give you Gibbs, I'll give you Robinson, but after that, Taylor, H.N. cook, those kind of guys. Guys, I'm still going. McAffrey.
A
Yeah. Good CO sign. Great thoughts there from Mike.
C
Crazy.
B
That's all I got.
C
Crazy that after you watched what happened to Saquon Barkley last year.
B
They're not the same guy. I know.
C
They're not older. I know. Wild to say about Big Ranger history.
B
It's wild to say about Barkley because of how good he's been at times. But McAffrey has been consistently well better in fantasy than Barkley. I don't even think it's a close call other than other than two years ago.
C
I like highlighted how he has had rushing inefficiency problems over the last couple of years. I don't think.
B
And it hasn't mattered.
A
He just, he's the best. I think the thing that to me the ultimate card that he has to play. He's the best receiving running back in the history of the NFL, 100%. Like it's like last year there were seven players that 100 catches and seven receiving touchdowns. Jamar Chase, Amon Ross, Ain't Brown, Puka Nukua, Chris Olave, offensive player of the year, Jackson Smith and Jigba and Trey McBride and Christian McCaffrey. That's insane. So to me, the only way, like I just, I just. I just don't believe that if Christian McCaffrey is available for 17 games, he will be anything lower than RB3.
B
Yeah. And there's not like there was major investment by the Niners to be like, we have to roll this guy's rollback,
A
you know, like a running back in the third round.
B
Yeah, but they do that every year.
A
Can't help them.
B
Yes, they do that every year. I'm not.
A
And then the guy gets healthy scratch by week two and just barely playing.
B
I'm.
C
I'm out. I'm done.
A
Those reasons I'm out.
B
I will say this really quick. McCaffrey probably not finishing RBT like he's either. Unless he misses, like misses four games. Exactly. Yeah. Either he's going to be why hurt and miss the season or finish as
C
RB12 last year after being RB1.
A
Like, the thing is that like the things that Saquon needed to be a top five running back are not as repeatable as what CMC needs. Saquon needed explosive runs and touchdown upside CMC that was not going to be as likely to repeat because explosive runs are hard to repeat.
B
Okay.
A
And then touchdowns are hard to repeat when your quarterback is the greatest tush pusher in the history of the game. Cmc, like I. How is this offense operating if CMC is not seeing seven targets a game?
C
Great question. That's a great question field.
B
I'll let you guys draft that.
A
Great question. Yeah.
C
All right, what's the next one that we have here?
A
Jeremiah Love. So maybe I'll start the bearish case and Mike can make the bullish case.
B
Sure. Go for it.
A
It's pretty straightforward for me. Touch of scar tissue from last year with Ashton Genty. I'm just legit concerned about how bad this offensive infrastructure is going to be. I'm concerned about. About the rushing. Like the guys averaging sub 4 yards per carry are going to have a hard time being fantasy monsters. I like some of the players that are. I just really like all the running backs that are ahead of Jeremiah Love. It's a very close cluster of guys from I would call it RB7 to RB14. I have Jeremiah Love at the bottom of that tier. I'm concerned about the offensive line and I am concerned about Tyler Algier taking valuable goal to go touches from him.
B
Yeah. First of all, I agree that that tier is very deep. So I can't crush you for having.
A
It starts with Derrick Henry for me and goes all the way to Jeremiah
B
I have cooked down to like Breeze hall. It's like 6 to 15 is like the projection difference is like 6 to 8 points for all of them. So it's hard for me to be super aggressive on this. But the bottom line is the guy is just one of the best running back prospects we've seen in a very long time. And the history of these guys drafted this early is outstanding. I'm going to use this stat a hundred times over the next month. Each of the past nine running backs that were selected in the top 12 of the NFL draft finished top 12 in fantasy points as a rookie. Worst case scenario we saw last year with Ashton Genti and he still finished in the top 12. We would expect love to be a better player. And to your point on Algier, he had over 600 yards and eight touchdowns last year. And Bijan Robinson had over 2,000 yards and was a number two running back the year before. He was third with Algier who had similar stats, just not as many touchdowns. So I'm not really worried about Tyler Algier and I don't think James Connor has a role in this offense. I think he goes elsewhere.
C
What about my Trey Benson shares in dynasty? Is that also gone?
B
Well, at least she didn't trade a 2 and a 3 for him last year when he took over as the lead back for Conor.
A
It's funny because like there's going to be a lot of movement in NFL rosters over the next 20 days before rosters are shaped to 53 players and the big storylines are not going to be who the Cardinals keep at running back. But people like us are very invested in how that running back.
B
I want Conor. I mean Connor we love as a player. Like I hope he goes somewhere he can play this year.
A
That's my one.
B
It's not going to happen in Arizona. It's just not if the other guys are healthy.
A
Yeah, the tricky one there, he's a heart and soul guy. No doubt so much of the Cardinals that you trade him away. Like what does that look like?
C
Mike, let's talk about Garrett Wilson.
A
Can't quit him.
C
Mike, what's going on with you and this kid?
B
Yeah, can't get him. He was outstanding last season. First of all, he's been a target hog throughout his career so far. I know that the quarterback issues in New York have hurt him, but he was even last year with Justin Fields there. He was off to a really Good start. Was second in target share, four touchdowns, 14.2 fantasy points per game. And you look At Geno Smith here, I think this helps him. I think Geno Smith is not the future quarterback for this franchise, but I think he could hold down the fort this season. If you look at his three consecutive years as a starter in Seattle. 2022 Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, both top 16 fantasy receivers. 2023, Metcalf was 21, Lockett was 31. He lost a little because JSN that was his first year on the team. He was a top 50 receiver. And then 2024, of course JSM makes the leap to the top 10. Metcalf missed a couple games, finished 32nd. So Gino has shown that he's a pocket quarterback, doesn't run a lot, can get the ball in the hands of these guys. So I think Garrett Wilson is one of the superstar talents at the NFL. His target share has proven that his big plays have shown that we're getting a discount because he was hurt last year. He bounces back this year.
C
You were worried about like Omar Cooper or any of the other additions that offense.
A
No, I truly what I'm most worried about is lack of touchdown upside. We talked about this bad and. And just quarterback play could be. They could be a quick pull the plug on their starting quarterback maybe.
B
I think their defense is a little underrated now which not always a good thing. Yeah, yeah. I think their defense is more average than it is poor now. And I think the offensive line or the offense is solid enough. Like I don't think they're going to be an embarrassment. They're going to be competitive enough and Wilson's going to be the star of
A
that offense along with Coach makes me very nervous.
C
Wait a second. If the offensive line is very good.
D
Good.
C
And the defense is legit, why aren't we more in on quarterback?
B
I think we are.
A
I mean, no, we're in on Bruce hall, but you know, he's in that
B
tier as far as I'm concerned.
A
If they're losing. Yes, they're going to have a hard time running football.
B
So fair.
C
All right. What about Chris Godwin, Mike Clay? Are we in or we out on Chris Godwin now that Mike Evans has left coming back from injury last year. He didn't really like hit his ceiling last year.
A
Give me quick energy.
B
I know he was coming off the. Yeah, I know he was coming off the injury last year, but hit 11 fantasy points only twice. He's played a total of 16 games the past two years. He's 30 years old now. He hasn't believe it. Believe it. Or not. He hasn't cleared five touchdowns in a season since 2020.
C
Wow.
B
2020 was the last time he had more than five downs in a season. I know he was. Had a terrific year a few years ago. But you have a buka. You have McMillan, who I think is an underrated player. We talked about Hurst and Tess Johnson and Kate Otten, and they're both running backs. Like, I get that Evans is gone, but I get I. I have a hard time seeing a ceiling here for this guy after what we've seen the last couple of years.
C
I'm.
B
I'm aiming, I'm focusing my energy elsewhere at that point in the draft. Me too.
C
I would much rather have Jaylen McMillan at the very end of the draft, one of my last picks as a dart throw, than going with Chris Godwin. Unfortunately, with where he is.
A
I think we have a mailbag question.
C
We got one question from our mailbag, our friends over at chat. That question is going to be from Richard. Richard wants to know. I think my clay smells like Velveeta Mac and cheese shells, but in a good way.
B
First of all, compliments. Second of all, when was this guy smelling me? That's concerning. I know. I was at the.
C
What do you think?
A
It's good. I mean, honestly, whatever it is.
C
So one thing I'll say this. The Velveeta Mac and cheese shells is the good cheese. It's not like the powdered cheese you put with milk and butter that you have to do yourself. It's like the creamy cheese that comes in the package.
B
By the way, my defense, I don't have my cologne right now because it was too big to pack. So it was in the. The checked bag, which is at Megan's house, so might be a little smellier. You are a couple of days ago.
A
Honestly, pretty good. Honestly, pretty good. I admire it.
B
Yeah. All right. I did shower today, you know, so I did do that.

This episode dives into nuanced fantasy football strategy, recapping key takeaways from a recent 12-team Superflex PPR mock draft, answering listener mailbag questions on draft approaches, and breaking down relevant NFL training camp buzz. The team also launches the “WTF Mike Clay” segment, grilling Mike on some controversial player rankings.
[03:38-13:30]
[22:18-47:55]
[50:47-64:19]
On WR patience:
“I’m not telling you to bypass a Puka Nacua or a Ja’Marr Chase, but it can get kind of empty and feel like an inauspicious start if you don’t have a running back by round three or four. I don’t feel that same way about waiting on wide receiver.” — Field Yates [05:32]
On roster diversification:
“I want exposure to every notable player. Every single one.” — Field Yates [19:22]
Mike on irrational hype:
“Every day you see a report of a guy like this — you have to see through and decide, does he even have a path to fantasy relevance? In almost all of these cases, the answer is probably not.” — Mike Clay [31:26]
Music to ears for Herbert drafters:
“No Chargers offensive lineman is hurt right now—that’s huge.” — Field Yates [36:53]
On CMC being an outlier:
“They float around, they’re unicorns. And very few of them… these guys generally go to the Hall of Fame. Christian McCaffrey fits the bill.” — Mike Clay [55:37]
On always adapting:
“Always be adapting. ABA. Hashtag ABA.” — Mike Clay [17:04]
This episode is information-dense, blending actionable draft advice from a superflex mock, adaptive draft strategies, and in-depth, reality-based training camp analysis. The banter is sharp, particularly in the “WTF Mike Clay” segment where strong, reasoned disagreements highlight positional tiers, aging curves, and the dangers of buying into every bit of August hype.
If you missed the show, you’ll walk away with a clear understanding of where to find WR value, how to flexibly approach your league’s draft slot, which camp stories matter (and which don’t), and where the experts are divided on this season’s most controversial players. The overall tone is energetic, sometimes irreverent, but always grounded in years of experience.
For a fantasy drafter getting ready for the 2026 season, this episode is a must-listen.
