Hey, guys, it's Christian McCaffrey, pro running back. I'm partnering with Abercrombie this season to tell you about their viral denim. All you need to know is denim.
Mike Clay
Should fit like this.
Field Yates
Abercrombie's athletic fit is a game changer. They're designed for guys with an athlete's build like mine. Just enough room and the perfect stretch. When a jean fits that well, I'm wearing it on repeat. Shop Abercrombie denim in the app, online and in store.

You're in the.

We are unbelievably excited to close out our Baja Marain here today with a draft day set up for you guys. Being able to answer not only a bunch of questions, a bunch of Q and A going into what is going to be your draft weekend, but also we're going to talk a few drafts do's and don'ts to get things started. So, honestly, I kind of want to open this up to just a roundtable here when we're talking about draft day do's and don'ts. Do you guys have anything that stands out to you as far as. And Mike, why don't we start with you just at the other end.
Mike Clay
I was just going to say do is bring these chairs back home for a regular podcast because I might fall asleep.
Field Yates
These are awesome.
Daniel Dopp
They're fantastic.
Mike Clay
Super comfy chairs.
Field Yates
The ladies disagree because you just relax and enjoy and have some fun.
Stefania Bell
I know we don't sit like slobs, right?
Mike Clay
Wow.
Field Yates
I am un. Wow.
Stefania Bell
I feel like it's a flying saucer.
Mike Clay
Now I'm doing this.
Daniel Dopp
That's it.
Mike Clay
Now I'm going to do it even more.
Stefania Bell
Stefani, deal with.
Daniel Dopp
All right, so Mike's first draft I do is to bring some shares. I do want to say one thing that I think you need to do is bring your own cheat sheet. Bring all your own materials. Don't decide that you're going to be that person that doesn't show up with something and then you like. Right? Right. Mike's got it right here. Don't be that guy to come in and ask someone else from your league. Hey, can you give me an extra cheat sheet? No. Show up prepared. Do your own work. That's my first do.
Field Yates
That's a good starting point here, Daniel. I think above all else, the most important thing that you have to remember during a draft is like, pick the players that you want. I've been saying this a lot recently on our show back when we haven't been in the incredible island of the Bahamas. Is like adp, which is average draft position, which of course aggregates every draft on ESPN and finds that median outcome for each player matters. But it's not the end all, be all. If you've got somebody that you really want, and especially if you're picking towards the front or towards the end of the order and you're concerned about that player not making it back to you in the next round, take that player. Not long before we came over here, a colleague of ours at work had sent me a note and said, hey, I'm thinking that the four top quarterbacks are probably going to go somewhere in the third round. Is that a reasonable target for Jaden Daniels, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts? I said, that seems reasonable to me. That's about where I have him ranked. I think that's about where they would go. And he says, you know, I'm thinking about taking. And then like 10 minutes later he's like, by the way, I'm thinking about taking them in the second round. What do you think about that? I said, it's your team. Do whatever you want. Like, I'm not going to prevent you from taking one of those guys at the end of the second round. If you're concerned they won't get you to get to you in the third round and you have to live with the ramifications if they don't. So use ADP as sort of like a barometer of where you think a player might go. But if you're convicted on somebody and you want to take that player earlier than consensus, go for it. I think that's always a good starting point in fantasy football drafts.
Stefania Bell
I would also say don't be too hung up on how you're team looks at the end of the draft today because surely your league mates are going to give you grief. Everybody's going to compare. Do you guys give out grades for your draft? Like, who gets an A? I have to live with Mike Clay. So we all get graded on how we.
Field Yates
That's Mike Clay eye, by the way, for those greats. That's right, the Clay I version of Mike.
Stefania Bell
I don't think I've ever gotten an A, but I've still won leagues because you don't totally win on draft day. So you, you win by playing throughout the season, by working the waiver wire, by being quick to respond when there's injury news. That's what we're here for, to help you out all season with all of those things. So pick the team that you want. I agree with Field. I Want players that I want. I don't care if you make fun of me for taking Christian McCaffrey earlier than where he's ranked or earlier than where people believe he should be taken, because I am going to enjoy watching Christian McCaffrey rooting for him and. And then also having him beat your team when he outperforms expectations, except when he's on the sidelines because he's hurt.
Daniel Dopp
Wow. All right, well, Liz, maybe don't bring those. I don't know.
Field Yates
Yeah, your first don't, don't draft Christian bar.
Mike Clay
Welcome.
Field Yates
Honestly, you know, I got to.
Stefania Bell
I can handle it. I am good with it.
Field Yates
And this is, like, one of the reasons why I love working at ESPN is I was looking at. Without, like, implicating somebody else, a specific person, I was looking at someone's like, do not draft list for this upcoming season. And this guy, you know, was like, Peyton Manning and, like, you know, like, Calvin Johnson. I was like, wow, thank you. That's groundbreaking. At espn, you get stuff like Liz being like, I'm out on saquon and Christian McCaffrey, like, you got to have some stones to win in fantasy football. And if we all think alike, no one's thinking so. I appreciate the audacity, but it piggybacks.
Stefania Bell
On your point of if you have a hunch about a player, if you are feeling a certain way about a team, then you should go with that. There are no rules. That's what it's called. Fantasy football. It is. Choose your own adventure for NFL fans. So choose your own adventure and go on that journey and enjoy it.
Field Yates
Hey, yeah, look at that.
Daniel Dopp
First round of applause for Liz.
Field Yates
I got one that I want to like. This ties to draft strategy, and I want to take the pulse of this panel up here. And I think I know how Stefania feels based off of her most recent remarks, but this is a question that I get asked a lot is if you are. I'm just going to make this up. If you are a Cardinals fan, should you intentionally draft Cardinals or should you intentionally avoid Cardinals? And my feeling is, like, I actually think that, like, if I, like, if. If I'm a Cardinals fan and, like, I don't draft any Cardinals, like, that's kind of okay by me. Like, I'm not going to avoid them on principle, but I don't mind that because, you know, if my Cardinals players play great in real life and I don't have them on my fantasy team, at least I've got some wins underneath my belt in real life. But if my Cardinals stink. And I have on both my fantasy team and my real life team. That's a double whammy right there. Any disagreement on that, or. No, I.
Stefania Bell
In the sense that I won't totally stack my team with 49ers. Like, I might have one or two and then I'll be like, okay, I got to take.
Field Yates
That's enough.
Stefania Bell
That's enough. You know, because I don't want. If they have a really bad day, I'm going to be depressed across the board.
Field Yates
No one asked Mike because Mike's an Eagles fan. He's like, yeah, sometimes I draft Jalen Hurts and saquon Barkley and A.J. brown.
Mike Clay
That's a tough life. One of the few teams where you could just draft all the Eagles and you're just fine with it. It works every time. But, you know, that actually leads to a good point, which is knowing your league and it doesn't just apply to league. I mean, you need to know league scoring, for example. Nice man. League. Big change this year was the super flex. That's right, super flex this year. So these guys had to study up. It's not like every other, you know, league. And that obviously changes things. This year, quarterbacks are going to come flying off the board and you have to find that line of when the, you know, we're going to have that big spike early on in that draft, we're going to see it here in an hour or so, and then there's going to be a dip. When do you strike on that second quarterback? So knowing those kind of things, studying up on your league format is huge. But the other part of that too is if you're drafting, you know, let's just say you're from Boston drafting a bunch against a bunch of Patriots fans. If you want Trayvon Henderson, he might go two rounds earlier than he's normally going to go. Drake May, those kind of guys. So you could take advantage of that. If it's a team that's not very good, doesn't have many good fantasy players and people are reaching on them. But it goes the other way as well. If you really want a guy and it's a good breakout player you want, you're going to have to go get him.
Daniel Dopp
It used to be great being in a Michigan men league when the Lions were bad because Lions were just overdrafted.
Mike Clay
Now I feel like that's exactly what I'm saying.
Daniel Dopp
Yeah, this is how it's changed. Everything's changed because of that.
Field Yates
My wife took Tom Brady overall for 20 straight years. She Drafted purely off of looks. And the fact that she was from Boston certainly helps, but, like.
Mike Clay
And that worked. Actually, that worked pretty well.
Field Yates
Pretty well for her.
Mike Clay
Yeah.
Daniel Dopp
I think if I had to say one last thing as far as, like, a do and don't for me many more. I am big on trash talk. I mean, I know we already talked about it, but, like, I really feel like. And you got to know your league, right? You don't want to be, like, mean to people, but, like, this is psychological warfare. I'm trying to beat you on the digital gridiron. If someone makes a bad pick, I'm going to let them know about it.
Field Yates
Right.
Daniel Dopp
And it's okay to be able to go in. Like, there's a little bit of an emotional side to this game as well. So I am very in on making sure that you, like, you kind of like, needle your people. Because if I can get you off your game because now you're thinking about other stuff, that means I get a better draft pick because of it.
Mike Clay
Yeah.
Field Yates
ESPN taunt feature that we instituted last year. That thing is money. It's money.
Mike Clay
I reached out last night to, like, Font is perfect. And some of those guys, Mike Daniels, you know, the players told us about, I needed, you know, I need to step on my game on the pod, because you guys dish it out so well. So, yeah, took some notes.
Field Yates
People take it.
Mike Clay
I got some love it coming.
Field Yates
We got some more do's and don'ts. Or do you want to get right in the questions?
Daniel Dopp
No, let's do some more do's and don'ts.
Field Yates
Well, I. So we talked about, like, a lot, like, you know, very pragmatic stuff. Some of, like, the more simple things, it's just like, you know, like, if you are picking at the very beginning or the very end of your order, like, be mindful of the stuff, especially of, like, who's going to be available. Like, don't be too tethered to what the Next, you know, 10 or 12 players are that are in terms of projections. Daniel, you brought this up. Someone recently as well, is that, like, you know, at some point it becomes a math game at the positions where you only start one player. So if it's the eighth round and you've realized that, you know, out of the 10 teams, nine of you or eight of you have already taken a quarterback. You don't have to worry as much about, like, all right, well, I see, like, I've got a couple guys left. Do I have to take Brock Purdy now or do I take the wide receiver that probably in a vacuum, I prefer you can of course be patient at quarterback. And I would say generally speaking, in a lot of our leagues, you don't see us double dip at quarterback. That's something that I feel like when I'm playing amongst ESPN colleagues, I don't see as much double dipping. When I'm playing in like leagues with friends, I see way more double dipping. Speaking generally, I think it's not a waste of a roster spot, but there is probably more value in grabbing that lottery ticket running back or wide receiver as opposed to a second quarterback. Especially if you have a guy that's one of those first five that we feel really good about this.
Mike Clay
Agreed. Yeah, I generally agree with that. This year it feels like kind of a fun year to take a flyer on some of those guys. Because even if I take one of the big four, it's like, man, Drake may sit in there if he falls or a JJ McCarthy because if they do make that leap, that's some serious trade capital you're going to have on your team. So and again, when you get into the later stages of your draft, the running backs starting to dry up, receivers starting to dry up, obviously tight end dries up super quick. You're like, maybe Drake may's the guy with the most upside at that point. So I think this is a rare year where I'm more likely to do that. But in general, I agree the seasons are changing, days are shorter, nights are cooler, and fall projects are waiting.

All right, let's take some questions from the audience. If you guys have any questions here, head on over to the microphone. Don't need to raise your hand. You can just jump right over there and just get in line. We would love.
Field Yates
Can we also encourage anything goes here. I mean, fantasy probably is most relevant to this crew, but if you have something that's not fantasy, fire away.
Mike Clay
All right, My name's Kevin, AKA kickball. Dad started the fantasy league that I'm.
Field Yates
The commission of 36 years ago.
Mike Clay
Wow.
Field Yates
Still got most of our guys together. So do it as long as I.
Mike Clay
Have since probably most of you were before you were all born.
Field Yates
I don't really have any questions for.
Mike Clay
Any of you guys. I more have answers and questions.
Field Yates
But so just a general question. Can you guys say something nice about my Dolphins? They have great uniforms. It's not just you guys across the board.
Mike Clay
All I hear is negative stuff.
Field Yates
Jalen Waddle, one of my favorite values this year. There we go. Oh, that is. Wow.
Mike Clay
God.
Field Yates
That's it.
Mike Clay
Waddle.
Field Yates
That's all you got for me?
Mike Clay
They got a really.
Field Yates
I mean, no, we have. One at a time. One at a time. Please start on.
Stefania Bell
I was gonna say, I think.
Field Yates
Stefania, what do you got?
Daniel Dopp
We.
Stefania Bell
We like the talent that exists on the Dolphins. I think the hard part this year, you got to admit this, as a fan, is you don't know which way things are going to break. There's a lot of, like, the talent. Oh, come on. Now we got talent.
Field Yates
Ignore them.
Stefania Bell
Yes. And the thing is that we know that the run game has been strong. I mean, so they got rid of Rahim Moser, but Devon Hn's totally capable as long as he can stay healthy. You've got impressive pass catchers there. The offense, when it clicked last year, was really good. It's just once Tua got hurt, everything fell apart. So I think the hesitancy that you see from us is because we just don't know which way things are going to break. It remains to be seen until they get into the season, but the talent is unquestioned.
Mike Clay
Yeah, no, no hesitation from me here. I know these two here are very low on Tyreek Hill. Not me. I'm in on Tyreek Hill. Bounce back season coming. I think actually Tyreek said something kind of fascinating recently, which is he wants them to run the ball between the tackles a little more. Jalen Wright, perhaps could be that guy. Bigger Back was very one of the youngest players in the NFL last season. Going into year two, the Dolphins face too high, higher more than any other team in the NFL last season. Which is why you, why Jalen Waddle, Tyree Kill struggled so much. You can see as many explosive plays last year and why you did see John Smith catch 90 catches last year, 80 catches. Devon Achan caught like everything thrown his way. But if they can run the ball more effectively and teams can't sit back and too high, maybe that opens the door and I have to imagine that they're going to make some adjustments this season. So I think Tyreek, he'll bounce back season. I do like Jalen Waddle to rebound as well. Darren Waller, I mean don't forget he just signed there and now he's practicing. He could be a kind of a sneaky late round guy, especially in two tight end leagues. Obviously Devon Achan has been fantastic. Tua is the only guy that I'm not really interested in fantasy because he doesn't run at all. Like he's a terrific passer, but he doesn't run at all. So I actually think there's a lot to like in the Miami offense from a fantasy perspective.
Field Yates
I love the uniforms.
Daniel Dopp
I agree. Good looking uniforms.
Mike Clay
Yeah. Go Dolphins.
Daniel Dopp
Go Dolphins.
Mike Clay
Yeah.
Field Yates
I feel like the loser punishment in your league.
Mike Clay
What's that?
Field Yates
Are there other Dolphins fans in that league or. No, there are not. I'll tell you this. We never have a punishment because apparently unlike a lot of other leagues, our guys are so competitive. If a guy's 3 and 10, he wants to beat whoever he's playing badly. I still feel like you should make him do something. Loser punishment.
Mike Clay
I have to think about if you.
Field Yates
Had to wear like a Giant jersey.
Mike Clay
For a week, what would you do?
Field Yates
Me? Yeah.
Daniel Dopp
No, no, that's okay then that's the Giants.
Field Yates
But I'm just saying. How about. How about a Saints jersey?
Mike Clay
No, this is it right here.
Field Yates
That's what I'm saying. So this would be a great punishment if you ever lose. I'd rather just retire from fantasy football.
Stefania Bell
That's what.
Field Yates
That's loyalty. That stakes right there. That stakes.
Stefania Bell
But you know what? That's. We want to set a punishment as a cold plunge because one person sitting up here refuses to do a cold plunge.
Daniel Dopp
That's right.
Stefania Bell
You got two women.
Mike Clay
Give me the hot sauce, I'll do it.
Stefania Bell
But we have somebody here who will not do a cold.
Mike Clay
I can't do it. I just don't have the wherewithal to be In a warm.
Stefania Bell
That's why it must be the punishment.
Mike Clay
A warm pool and then step into ice. I can't do it. My body will not allow it.
Field Yates
He's a baby. Well, I can tell you this. I'd rather do the combine naked than put a Bills jersey on. So I'm going to say we would.
Daniel Dopp
Also rather have you put a Bill's.
Mike Clay
Jersey on though, for what it's worth.
Daniel Dopp
Yes.
Mike Clay
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Daniel Dopp
All right, next question. We have name. Where you from?
Field Yates
Social Security number.
Mike Clay
Everyone, my name is Gary Diemer from Ohio. Let's go. But who Day, I got a question directed to you. Stefania, right?
Stefania Bell
Yeah.
Mike Clay
So recently we've seen news of Brian Robinson Jr. Going to the 49ers.
Stefania Bell
Yes, indeed.
Mike Clay
And we're so like, my thought is I'm looking at CMAC sometimes, but he's injury prone. Now you got another good back in that backfield. Do you think that he's going to lose a lot of touchdowns because they're going to put him down to put the shoulder down.
Stefania Bell
We actually had a spirited conversation about this yesterday on our show and when the news broke and I think that Christian McCaffrey is really safe in this trade. This trade is all about what's behind Christian McCaffrey in San Francisco. And we can the injury prone label. We can have a sidebar conversation about that. It's not something I really like to use unless somebody's been consistently injured throughout their career, like every single season. Christian McCaffrey had three down years due to injury, but the rest of his five seasons in the league played either 16 or 17 games or 20 when they went to the playoffs. So he actually, he's actually, you know, it's a low number of games or a high number of games and not much in between. And when he's healthy, he's been the number one running back in fantasy and he could potentially be that this year. He could potentially be the number one player in fantasy. We also know that Kyle Shanahan won't take him off the field regardless. So what is Brian Robinson's role? This is where we're talking about. How do they view the backup situation? Is Brian Robinson going to get in. In certain packages potentially or. I understand because it's a bit of a power back, you think, think he might be used more near the end zone, but I don't see that happening to take away from Christian McCaffrey. That's not going to happen.
Mike Clay
I understand like what you're saying, though.
Stefania Bell
Okay, here comes the but I disagree with you okay.
Field Yates
I do disagree in the fact of.
Mike Clay
You were talking Yates, you were talking about it yesterday.
Field Yates
Yeah, yeah. About the change of running back situations.
Mike Clay
In today's NFL and how we're not just laying a guy. Like stuff is like Derek Henry but.
Daniel Dopp
Like more committee type.
Mike Clay
Throw your more committee type. And I'm a big. I'm a Lions guy.
Field Yates
Yeah, Lions.
Stefania Bell
Yeah. But there from Ohio.
Field Yates
I love it. You buried.
Stefania Bell
There are definitely more teams doing that in the NFL for sure. But you know who's not doing it? San Francisco.
Mike Clay
It's because they're from Youngstown.
Field Yates
Hey, come on. That's where I'm from.
Mike Clay
Sorry.
Field Yates
Shout out Youngstown. But is Bo Pelania still the coach there?
Mike Clay
No.
Stefania Bell
Let's put it this way. If they went to a committee, it would be the first time in the history of Kyle Shane in with the 49ers that they did. And I think with McCaffrey healthy, that's not going to happen. Even last year when he was out, they were like Jordan Mason all the way until he was hurt and then it was Isaac Grando till he was hurt. So they just don't have a history of rotation in the backfield.
Mike Clay
You just brought up another name. What's your opinion on Garendo?
Stefania Bell
Well, it's interesting because I went to Niners training camp as you would expect because I have to spend time out there and they also had to do Jillian injuries. And I talked with Isaac Garendo sadly the day before he got hurt in practice.
Field Yates
Interesting.
Stefania Bell
Yeah, the curse lives. But he. They had made it clear to him that after last year and them getting rid of Jordan Mason, he was the clear number two. So he rehabbed because he ended last year hurt. He stayed in California, he worked with the team. He wanted to do everything he could to assimilate into that offense and as if he could at any moment be the guy. And the expectation in training camp the first day I was there was that Grendo was the clear number two. There was no question. The next day he leaves practice with a shoulder injury. He's out a few weeks. They have a variety of running back injuries, relatively mild. And now they're looking at a depth behind Christian McCaffrey that's virtually non existent because of health issues. So. Yeah, all right. I mean if you came up here to take shots of my team, you're succeeding. But you're not going to put my spirits down because I still trust my four and.
Field Yates
But don't break.
Stefania Bell
Yeah, no, listen. So Garendo was the clear number Two, I don't know how they're viewing the backup situation now because of the health issues behind McCaffrey.
Daniel Dopp
Well, feels like they're approaching it as though they need more help, which is why they traded for Brian Robinson, and.
Stefania Bell
That'S what they did. Do you remember way back, who was it that went to the Chiefs whose name I can't think of right now? Who's the 49ers running back? Who was hurt?
Field Yates
Elijah Mitchell.
Stefania Bell
No, no, no, before that.
Field Yates
Jerick McKinnon.
Daniel Dopp
No, no, no, before that.
Stefania Bell
Oh, maybe it was Jerick McKinnon. Yeah, Jerick McKinnon back in the.
Mike Clay
Roger Craig.
Stefania Bell
Yeah, I know. Could be. But Jerick McKinnon was hurt and he came. He came back after an injury and then got hurt again during training camp.
Mike Clay
Could.
Stefania Bell
Couldn't get healthy. They ended up getting rid of him and going. They sent him off to the Chiefs. They had. They had not enough depth at the running back position. They learned their lesson from that. And even after they brought in Elijah Mitchell and they thought he was going to be the guy, he had injury problems. Another reason they got rid of him. This year, they have not been able to keep a running back squad healthy, which might speak to different issues. But the bottom line is I don't think they really believe they're ever full, fully adequately staffed at that position.
Mike Clay
Yeah. No, you're absolutely correct. I feel like.
Daniel Dopp
Appreciate you, brother.
Mike Clay
I appreciate it.
Daniel Dopp
Thank you. All right, let's get a few more questions in.
Mike Clay
How you doing, Mr.
Field Yates
Unlimited? Although my name is Sean Weinberger, I'm from Maryland.
Mike Clay
I am a commander's fan, although I'm.
Field Yates
With wearing a Russell Wilson's jersey.
Mike Clay
But I just had a question about when you're drafting and there are players that are still trying to figure out their contracts, such as Terry McLaurin. Does that affect your draft strategy, picking him or not?
Daniel Dopp
In earlier rounds, you've talked about this a bunch field where it's like I have a certain amount of time that I feel less worried about it. And then once we sort of get to this date, I start getting some pause in my drafting.
Field Yates
We're not quite there.
Stefania Bell
Terry.
Field Yates
Think all signs continue to point to them finding some middle ground. Terry and the commanders. So money does talk. I think the number might be a little more humbling for Terry than maybe his initial desires and asks, but I don't think we're quite there. I've been drafting Terry McLaurin largely as though he'll be available in week one and play his normal role, which for a Team that, you know is obviously excellent. If there's a spot they're vulnerable, it's wide receiver. It's Terry McClaurin, Debo Samuel, and then, you know, relatively unestablished wide receiver room beyond that. So I'm. I think Terry. Yes, It's a good tiebreaker. Like, if you feel very closely about Terry McLaurin and somebody else, like, in a vacuum, just making this up. DK Metcalf, totally fine to go with DK for right now, but, like, I'm not letting Terry McLaren slide behind wide receivers who are going, you know, wide receiver 25 and later right now.
Mike Clay
Yeah, every situation is different, but I've noticed him falling a little bit. So I am buying the dip if he falls and I could take advantage. Look, the goal is not to finish fourth, so you don't want to just, like, play it safe and take. I'm just going to pass him a Clorin, even though he sticks out like a sore thumb, just to play it safe. If he signs the next day, you just got a huge boost to your team, you know? You know what I mean? You're playing to win the. Win the league. So I'm buying the dip.
Stefania Bell
We saw that happen with Jamar Chase a little bit last year, too. He started.
Mike Clay
Happens all the time. I always buy those dips. That almost always works out. And by the way, he might get traded. And if he gets traded, he's going to be a superstar player. Maybe a higher target share than he gets in Washington.
Stefania Bell
Before that he might get traded. I don't think we want to talk about.
Mike Clay
I'm just saying, like, it's Terry McLaurin. If someone's going to trade major assets for him, he's going to be a featured player and you're going to be fine either way.
Stefania Bell
A Commander's fan. He doesn't want to hear that.
Mike Clay
It was a fantasy question, was it not? I mean, I'm just. I'm just. I think it applies.
Field Yates
I appreciate it.
Mike Clay
Thank you.
Daniel Dopp
No worries. All right, A couple more questions we got here.
Field Yates
Great hat. My name's Ben.
Mike Clay
I'm from New York. And, you know, I. Everyone loves Jameer Gibbs, and he's awesome. I'm not taking anything away from him, but I'm a Montgomery guy and I feel like last year he really was.
Daniel Dopp
The running back one.
Mike Clay
He started games. I know. Maybe he got some equal amount of carries. Sometimes maybe a little less, maybe a little more. What's your take on him? I. Why is he dropping so much?
Daniel Dopp
Why is Gibbs so high now?
Field Yates
How many guests that Mike off the top of his head can rattle off like David Montgomery's season to end finish for like the last four years. Montgomery is the stake, Jameer Gibbs the sizzle. Right. I just think that like, you know, the weekly upside for those two players is very, very different. Gibbs if, without David Montgomery, if Montgomery decided tomorrow to retire and join ESPN Fantasy as an analyst, Jameer Gibbs would be the number one player. And I don't think it'd be close.
Mike Clay
In draft happening, right?
Field Yates
It is. Not to my knowledge.
Mike Clay
Not to my knowledge, but I hope.
Field Yates
I've heard just a couple of rumors. But you know, because of Montgomery's presence, that gives a little bit of a discount to Jameer Gibbs. But then because of Gibbs presence, like Montgomery's passing game work's going to be reduced and they're going to be games where Montgomery is limited to maybe 12 touches because if they're playing in a track meet and they are playing from behind, it's going to be Gibbs on the field. So Montgomery, like, he's one of my favorite, sort of like if you, if you go hero running back, which is kind of one running back early and wait on that second one. Monty's one of my favorite second running back targets because he's going to have a role as long as he is healthy.
Daniel Dopp
I am fully with you on that. And one of the things, especially as a Lions fan heading into David Montgomery getting hurt at the end of last season, David Montgomery was running back nine in fantasy points. However, that was with the offense absolutely, absolutely clicking on literally every cylinder. They led the league in points scored per game. That's so tough to do back to back to back with all these seasons that we have, we had an offensive coordinator change. The middle of our offensive line is going to be a little bit different. Frank Ragnow and this is where you get into like line talk. But like we lost an all pro center that's going to absolutely impact the way that the middle of that offensive line works. And so I love David Montgomery as well. If anything happened to Jameer Gibbs, he would probably be at least a top 12, if not top 10 running back on a weekly basis. But if anything happens to David Montgomery, like we said, Jameer Gibbs would be RB1 without much question. So love him as an RB2 for your squad if you want to wait. But I don't think that we can expect him to score the 16 and a half points per game that we saw last year. That was the offense and demo firing on all cylinders throughout the entirety of the.
Mike Clay
The season. Thank you, guys.
Field Yates
You're welcome.
Daniel Dopp
Appreciate it, guys. All right, another question.
Mike Clay
How you doing? I'm Tony. I'm from South Florida. My question is about wide receiver twos in general. You have someone like T. Higgins who gets drafted at the 2, 3 turn in basically every draft, and then you.
Daniel Dopp
Have a bunch of wide receivers like.
Mike Clay
Jaylen Waddle, Devonta Smith, Jamison Williams, who are 30, 40, 50 picks ADP behind a T. Higgins who can't play 17 games basically ever. I'm curious why a wide receiver too like them would be so far behind T. Higgins when I think their equity in the offense is. I love this question because we talk about this all the time. It's so hard to rank that to your receivers. There's like the. I almost feel like there's a clear number one tier, like the top six guys that are going the first round, and then it just starts to drop off a little. And then you get to a point where your. Your ranges are perfect. You're talking T. Higgins, you know, Devontae Smith, all the guys in that range, and then you go all the way down to Jameson and those guys, and even breakouts like Ricky Pearsall and Roma Dunes. Yeah, yeah. Worthy Rasheed Rice. I mean, you can go on and on. And that's the problem. Like, we have to put them in order. And field talks a lot about tears. I mean, that's why you utilize tears. Because once you get to that point and those top receivers are gone, you can sit there and say, okay, I have from T. Let's say just say T. Higgins to Jameson Williams and all those guys in the similar tier. But, you know, running back starting to dry up a little bit. I still have a, you know, a guy sitting there I want to grab. That's a, you know, RB13 on my board. Maybe it's a Chase Brown or someone like that, because I know coming all the way around, one of those receivers will be left, maybe two of them or three of them will be left. So I think they're. That's where you kind of have to pick your spots with each position. And wide receivers, a great example of that. You don't be afraid to pounce on one of the top guys. But after that, you can kind of just bide your time and address other positions and just keep an eye on those tiers. Do you think a player like T. Higgins is going too high? I mean, I think. I think he's fine. I have him ranked right around that, that, you know, in that top 15 range, but it's not a guy I've drafted a lot for that reason. I'm not really attacking receiver at that point in my draft. I'm oftentimes like I don't feel great about that area. I'm just going to wait because it's such a gigantic tier of players.
Stefania Bell
I think one of the appeals for T. Higgins is that if you've waited on wide receiver receiver because you decided to go with a tight end early or something like that, and he ends up being your first receiver, even though he's a wide receiver too, you know, he's got wide receiver one talent and he's playing in an offense that is going to have to continue to throw the ball because clearly defensively they're no good. So he has the potential to still be a top receiver.
Mike Clay
I just feel a very similar way about a George Pickens where the Cowboys defense. Right, and. But.
Stefania Bell
So that's the difference, right? And that's where you make that decision. We know that the Bengals offense can support two wide receiver ones, essentially for fantasy purposes. George Pickens, wide receiver, 30 range. But we don't know, like, we're assuming there's breakout potential. Romo Dun, Jamison Williams, all three of those guys are in the same wide receiver 30 spot. The upside is massive, but because there isn't as much evidence that they can do it, they're just. That's baked into their adp. So the higher floor player, T. Higgins. All right, you want to, you want the, the security, the theoretical security, you're gonna have to pay up for it. But I am with you. I love that wide receiver 30 range. So many high upside guys in that spot.
Mike Clay
Awesome.
Daniel Dopp
Appreciate it. We're gonna do one more question, friends. Who is it gonna be? Oh, it's the Nice Man League.
Stefania Bell
All right.
Mike Clay
The commission. I'm Ryan. I am the commissioner of the famous Nice Man League. Thank you, thank you, thank you. So I was pretty big on this player and something happened recently. I'm just curious what you guys think about it. Love the opportunity for Devon. Hm. Specifically, I know we talked about the Dolphins, but specifically with him, with the target share opportunity. Now with the injury, how much are you taking that into account when you're looking at him? Because obviously he's sliding a bit, but you know, offensive lines, not great. Like how concerned are we when we look at the ad and everything based off of where he was?
Field Yates
Before we answer, can I just shout out to the entire kickball family that like whenever the words Dolphins are uttered, we just throw Finn up. I feel like I'm at a buffet concert. Rest in peace. Well, I do think the offensive line is better than it was last year. So I'm gonna throw that concern to the side we don't know a whole lot about. Do you have anything you want to add on the injury before we address this one?
Stefania Bell
No, I just say we've been told it's minor, but when they talk about like Mike McDaniel said it's going to keep him out weeks.
Field Yates
I think he said days to weeks. Very descriptive.
Mike Clay
I think it was yesterday I saw, I said something about him potentially being back for week one, which at this.
Stefania Bell
Point for me is like, oh, but here's the thing. A calf injury and a running back is not a good thing. You know, perhaps you remember last year Christian McCaffrey had when that's how that started. But the spectrum of how severe the injury can be is huge. Right. It could be just a minor. He felt tightness in his calf and they were like, whoa. There is no way we're taking any chances with this because we don't want it to turn into a season long thing. We need him. He is going to be on the field a lot. So the reaction is scale him back, work on rehab type stuff. We've seen what we need to see and let's just get him ready prime towards week one. The problem is with these type of soft tissue injuries, especially for someone at that position with a lower extremity injury at this time of the preseason, you can't gauge how severe it is by the time missed because a lot of the teams are being protective. They just want everybody there for week one, especially if it's a star like that. So it's really hard to read tea leaves on him. I don't think Mike McDaniel is usually pretty good. Like that's kind of a weird thing for him to be days to ways he's usually pretty good about being transparent. I think that he may genuinely have not really known how they were going to process it because they're evaluating on a day to day basis. But they're going to err on the conservative side. So I am not particularly worried right now because there's not really been a reason given given to be and there's no indication that anyone else is going to be taking a big share of the workload there yet.
Mike Clay
Yeah, I haven't changed my evaluation of him at all. Maybe slight, maybe like 10% more likely to grab Jalen.
Field Yates
Right.
Mike Clay
Move him up spotter too. Only Gordon, if you Take hm. Maybe slightly more likely to Ollie Gordon. You like it more. Do you like Ollie over. Ollie's super young though, right? It feels like maybe Ollie super young or Jalen Ollie's young. I mean Wright was young too, but Ollie's like, like I think a little development.
Field Yates
I feel like Jaylen Wright, Jalen Wright gotta hold on to the football. Got them butterfingers.
Mike Clay
All right. And you don't think the weakish time frame we've had since something happened and Hush Hush is a little sketchy, man.
Field Yates
I tell you, like, and this is another reason why you do your draft as late as possible. But I haven't gotten the, the, the sense that this is one that's expected to linger long into the season, if at all. Here's the reason why I like Devon Achan this year. Amongst the reasons is like no matter what this Dolphins offense looks like this year, there's a pretty good evidence that like he has a very fantasy relevant role. Two years ago they were unbelievably explosive and he was just running for like 7 yards a carry and all those touchdowns and he was great. Last year when they couldn't run the ball and they couldn't pass the football down the field, it was, let's just dump everything off to Devon Hn. So the only way in which I don't think he would have a year that kind of pays off the return of a late first round pick is if they decide that like they really are dedicated to a power running scheme. And Ollie Gordon looks like 20, 23. Ollie Gordon @ Oklahoma State when he was the Doak Walker award winner, which is given to the best running back in college football. That feels unlike, I guess possible but unlikely to me. So I'm in on ha and I think I had him. I think he was number 11 on the most recent top 100 ranks for me.
Mike Clay
Cool. Thank you. I feel like we need a Jalen Wright Ollie Gordon board bet or something. Sure. Love it.
Field Yates
Listen, the nice man league was like Ollie Gordon. They were, they were picking up what I was putting down.
Mike Clay
That's nice, man. Good deep cut there. We need a, we need like an insurance. We were talking about insurance running backs earlier.
Field Yates
Yeah.
Mike Clay
Need to talk about this more. Yeah.
Daniel Dopp
All right, let's close this out. All right. One more question. Go ahead.
Field Yates
Okay. Michael Grady. I live here in the Bahamas. Nice and lucky. Pretty simple question.
Mike Clay
When would you draft a defense which last?
Field Yates
Second to last.
Daniel Dopp
Second to last round.
Mike Clay
And a kicker last round.
Stefania Bell
Not me. I'll take the kicker early if it's like a Brandon Aubrey or somebody who, you know, I might, I'm. I, I want that kicker. I don't want to wait till the very, very end so they can mock me all they want. This is the part about doing your own draft. But Brandon Aubrey, I've had him on my teams consistently.
Mike Clay
You know, I agree with you actually.
Field Yates
And one probably not related to the draft. For all five of you, who's going.
Mike Clay
To win the Super Bowl?
Daniel Dopp
Lions?
Mike Clay
Eagles?
Field Yates
Saints?
Stefania Bell
Commanders? Where, wait, where's the super bowl this year? That's right. And it said Levi's Bills.
Mike Clay
My, my biased answer is the Eagles. My real answer is I think this is the year the Ravens do it. He's the year. Ravens complete team.
Stefania Bell
Ravens.
Mike Clay
They get over the top. Sean Harbaugh gets it. I think this is the year here.
Field Yates
I think Bills or Ravens?
Stefania Bell
I said Commanders.
Field Yates
Bills.
Mike Clay
Commanders. Bills.
Field Yates
I may adjust that.
Mike Clay
Spicy.
Field Yates
What about the Raiders? Listen, brother, I'm glad you live in the Bahamas where the stress is low because the Raiders are not winning the.
Mike Clay
Super bowl this year.

Daniel Dopp
Well, let's close this out with talking about one player that we feel like we need to leave a draft with. We will make sure and do this rapid fire. I'll start so that you guys can think about this. But one player I want to leave drafts with this year is Ricky Pearsall with where he's going in drafts the ADP. So sorry Stefania, you're not the only 49ers fan here. Like what he is able to potentially be in this offense as the number one wide receiver. Everything that we saw after his rookie season, the way he came on in the second half of the year, he thought. I thought he was unbelievable. Really excited to see how he continues to build with Brock Purdy. And by the way, he is much cheaper even than a lot of the. The wide receivers that we talked about in that George Pickens, Jameson Williams, Jalen Waddle range. Like you can still wait another couple of rounds and get a guy like Ricky Pearsall. So he's someone that I definitely want to leave drafts with Stefania.
Stefania Bell
So I don't have any must, must haves this year. I've sort of been fickle on this. I've come. I didn't have Ricky Pearsall at the start of the off season. We started doing these mock drafts. But he is. He's grown on me as somebody that I'd like to have. So I've been targeting him more. But if I. Another player I like late is Cam Scatter.
Field Yates
Boo.
Stefania Bell
So depending on where it is and with him dropping a little bit because he's been out with a hamstring injury and I think he's sort of fallen off the radar of some people, but I think by the end of the year, he may overtake Tyrone Tracy and be the number one running back for the Giants.
Field Yates
Curveball coming for me. Oh, nice uniform right there. Let's go. I'm on Bradshaw.
Mike Clay
Giants legend.
Field Yates
Curveball coming. Jerry Judy.
Mike Clay
Oh, okay. Daniel's wide receiver bus. So, yeah, this is good.
Field Yates
Obviously. And the root of Daniel's argument is that the quarterback play could be very shaky for Cleveland at some point during the season, especially if they tap into those two rookies who, you know, third and fourth, fifth round picks. Like, a lot of questions surrounding Dylan Gabriel and also Shador Sanders, but it's going to be Joe.
Stefania Bell
Joe Flacco.
Field Yates
That was pretty good.
Mike Clay
Michael Flacco.
Field Yates
Joe Flacco to get rolling here and now, unlike the rest of this crew, I've actually finished my week one rankings and my week one projections according to the system that I was looking at a few hours ago. And Judy is way freaking up there early on in the season. And there's a chance, by the way, that Joe Flacco holds onto this job for long enough that, like, you're getting a guy who's being drafted in some leagues at, like, wide receiver 34 who might have like half a season of being like a top 20 wide receiver. Like, nobody besides David and Joku is going to Command a lot of targets there. Judy's just a flat good football player. I know he had a slow start to his career, but I think Jerry Judy is going to have a very productive beginning of the season.
Mike Clay
So you're not worried about Joe Flacco, like. Like targets being down because he's scrambling a lot? We're not worried about that.
Field Yates
I'm not worried about that.
Mike Clay
Okay, good. Just making sure.
Field Yates
Put a little respect to Flocko's name, will ya?
Mike Clay
We just had this conversation about pronouncing guys names correctly and you won't stop.
Daniel Dopp
Yeah. This is the one name we don't need to.
Mike Clay
This is the one. He won't come off it. We can't.
Field Yates
What conversation were we having about. Oh, that was on text.
Mike Clay
Got it.
Field Yates
Okay.
Mike Clay
Bijan, Liz, what about you?
Stefania Bell
Well, we've talked a lot about this rookie. The rookie running backs that we've talked about. You just mentioned Travion Henderson, Ashton Genty. But I really like Amarian Hampton. I think that he's sneakily going, especially with Najee Harris's ocular injury stick. You know, there's question marks around it. We're in a Jim Harbaugh. She said. Ocular. Ocular injury. An eye injury. Eye. Ocular injury. Eyeball.
Field Yates
I'm telling you, I learn something new.
Mike Clay
Every day from this guy.
Stefania Bell
I love this bit field. Thank you. So I think that Omarion Hampton, obviously projected as a primary ball carrier in college, a lot of thump to his game, great fit for the offense that he's playing in. And so I really like where he's going and I'd love him as my RB2 across every board.
Mike Clay
Like it. I've talked about a few guys I don't want to keep harping on, like Matthew Golden, Drake May, J.J. mcCarthy. Guys like that I like a lot. But I'll just. More general concept here is like I want one of the big four quarterbacks. I've talked about that throughout the entire offseason. Those running quarterbacks, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Jaden Daniels, fine with any of the four. Honestly, whichever one kind of falls to me depending on the way my draft goes. It's kind of tricky sometimes if you're like if you picked early or might be coming around the 2, 3 turn, I might feel a little early. But if you want one of those four, you're going to have to take them there. I'll just feel really good about having one of those four guys. It just gives you a sizable edge over everyone else at the quarterback position. So that's been kind of something that's been in the back of my mind throughout this entire offseason. All the mocks I've done, all the drafts I've done, try to get one of those big four. And again, to Daniel's point from earlier, not going to force it every time. It doesn't always work, and you can't. You can't really leave, like, a really good player out there to force that. But if I can make it work, I make it work each time.
Daniel Dopp
All right, well, I would be remiss if I didn't close this out with saying that we are all unbelievably proud, not only of you guys being here, but I personally and all of the crew here at BDG Global. We're also very proud of one person in particular and that this year is our comeback player of the year. Field minister Yates did not get hurt at the combine this year. Shout out to you, my friend. It says goat on it. It's got Field's name. He was able to make it through unscathed. Shout out to field for being our comeback player of the year.
Stefania Bell
No one's happier than I am.
Daniel Dopp
That's right.
Field Yates
I got a few people I need to thank here. First of all, shout out to Stefania, who took care of me on the beach last year. I gotta thank the doctors at the hospital here last year as well. Gotta thank the people that put together some of the products that you take when you have a hurt shoulder. Big boo Boo. And then last, and for those of you that recall Carmelo Anthony at the ESPYs one day, I gotta thank me for grinding it out and showing some toughness.
Mike Clay
That's right.
Field Yates
Yeah. But this really does. I feel bad. I would like Mike to, for once, actually win a belt, so I kind of want to share this with him, But I'm just going to add this to the collection. This is truly amazing. It's even got my name on it.
Daniel Dopp
It's got your name on it and everything. Absolutely, man.
Field Yates
No one pushed. No one pushed me later. I don't want to have to do this again next year.
Stefania Bell
But no one's ever been named comeback player of the year by doing less than they did pre injury.
Daniel Dopp
That's right. That's.
Mike Clay
Yeah. It's weird. He didn't thank us for giving him a hard time all year long. That's true about this.
Daniel Dopp
I feel like that's the psychological, like, trauma that we're, like, trying to be, you know, it's just like a fantasy draft. We're not gonna let you forget about it.
Field Yates
This really does mean the world. Do I get to keep this belt?
Daniel Dopp
That's a great question for someone. Not me. All right, that's gonna do it for today's show. Thank you so much for hanging out with us. Don't forget to love each other. Be kind to yourself, and let's have some fun drafting.
