Hey, I'm Liz Loza and this is facts versus feelings. Your amuse bouche to your fantasy Focus main course. We're bringing more fantasy, more facts, more feelings, and of course, more fun. And now that I have your attention, today's fact is that nothing is permanent. Producer Presley is here because what is facts versus feelings without a little edge from the control room. Thank you, Dave, for coming back.
C
Thanks for having me. Liz, I am fired up. It's week one of the football season. It's finally here. Let's get it.
B
Okay, but before we do, I want to know if there is one thing that you could make permanent always, what would it be?
C
So Alex Ferguson's reign at Manchester United. I wish that had never come to an end. And I wish it could be permanent forever. Because the last 10 years have been brutal. But wrong sport, wrong audience, probably that's what I would mean.
B
I hear you speaking English, but I do not know what those words mean. Fair enough. I will take your word for it. If I could have something last forever, I think it would be the life of a pet. Because puppies are the best.
C
Yeah, I like yours more than I like mine. Speaking of liking, please like this video. Subscribe to the channel, leave a comment. Only nice ones for Liz. You can be mean to me. I don't care. But Liz is sensitive.
B
I am not sensitive. I have a very thick skin. But also, while you're liking and subscribing this season, you can leave us a voicemail. Please, please, though, try to clean them up. Guys, like, I was flattered, but the PG13 it a little bit. Hit us with your questions at 914-348-1893. And now that all of that is done, let's just hit the disclaimer, please.
C
Fantasy football is a game of inches, luck and irrational confidence. Proceed with caution, Trust your gut. And remember, ADP is a suggestion, not a command. Mark drafts a fantasy. Your real draft is war. And just because you heard it on this show doesn't mean you should do it. If all goes wrong, just say your account was hacked. They say the Only constant is change. You heard him say it. The only thing that is constant is change. And we have three guys on this list today, Liz, whose Week one situation may not be the same situation that they're in by the end of the season. First name, James Connor.
B
Yes, James Connor has this reputation. It is certainly earned for not staying healthy, though last year he was on the field for 16 games. This is week one, he is healthy. So at the present moment, we expect him to eat as the Cardinals RB1. I expect him to eat largely because Vegas does as well. Arizona is the third biggest favorite of the week at six and a half points. That should mean a lot of touches for Connor. Now, it doesn't mean everyone who drafted Trey Benson that Benson might not eventually find his way into some sort of sharing situation or take over were Connor to unfortunately succumb to an injury. But at the present moment, week one James Conner is situated to be a top 15 producer at the position. And it doesn't hurt that the Saints allowed the seventh most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs last season.
C
I love that. You know what? I don't love your boy, DeAndre Swift. And that's who's next up on this list. Chicago Bear Hit me.
B
So I feel like DeAndre Swift is a little bit tricky in week one because I spent the summer talking up his value in drafts. That doesn't mean that I don't think he will eventually produce for Chicago, though. A lot of people, and this is something to keep an eye on, are interested in his usage under Ben Johnson, the team's new head coach, particularly because Swift played under Johnson in Detroit when Johnson was the team's offensive coordinator. He only had two games with more than 15 touches in 2022. I do, however, think that he's going to be the primary ball carrier. My, my concern about Week one has much more to do with the matchup against Minnesota, a team that allowed the second fewest rushing yards last season. Also, this game total is tied for the fourth lowest in week one at just 43 and a half. So subsequently I have Swift ranked as a low end RB2 in like that RB21 to 24 range.
C
I mean, luckily, I'm not really worried about it. You know why?
B
Why?
C
Because I didn't draft him. You know who I did draft is Jerry Judy, and that's the third player on this list. And for me to see positive on the rundown here list, that gets me really excited. So what have you got about Jerry Judy, my boy?
B
Well, I'm excited about Jerry Judy because I'm excited that Joe Flacco will be Brown starting quarterback right now. By the way, do we ever think in what world are we like I'm super excited that Joe Flacco is under center, but like welcome to fantasy football. We don't know obviously if Flacco is going to maintain the starting gig, which is why Judy's ranking will probably fluctuate. But Flacco has made 11 starts over the last two seasons and in those 11 starts, his top scoring wide receiver ended up averaging over 21 fantasy points per game. We also expect that the Browns, no offense, will likely be chasing points against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. In fact, the Browns are the fourth largest underdog of the week at five and a half points. So I have accordingly Jerry Jeudy ranked as a high end wide receiver too in the wide receiver to like let's say 16 to 18 range.
C
Two touchdowns coming week one for Jerry Judy. You heard it here first.
B

Hello Liz, it's James Roday Rodriguez. I'm all out of spam. Can you hear the dogs? It's coming. The end is coming. I have no spam.
B
Is this because I said you looked a little bit like Sideshow Bob? James Roday, acclaimed actor from Psych and A Million Little Things. Also notable Titans fan and fantasy football degenerate. Thank you so much for joining us today, for giving me a call. I love hearing your voice, seeing your face, being in, in dialogue with you.
G
Yeah, the pleasure is all mine in advance. And postscript, what do you got? What's happening? What's going on?
B
I mean, it's week one of the NFL season, so that's, that's something. That is a, that is a thing that's happening right now that really crept.
G
Up on me because I've been so immersed in the wnba. But yeah, I guess you're right.
B
This is true about James. He actually does text me asking me about WNBA fantasy trades and such. But let's switch gears to fantasy football. Is there any particular way that you. I love. You're so crazy. I love you so much. Is there any particular way that you are approaching week one?
G
You know, week one's always tricky because, you know, it's not a great indication of what to expect from, from offenses around the league. You know, players are still acclimating. A bunch of guys didn't even see the field during preseason. So it's a tough way to judge what's to come, which is why you get so many overreactions after week one, which are fun to watch people panic after one week. So I've been doing this for a while. I know to go in pretty even keel, you know, take a few notes and, and use it moving forward. So yeah, I'm not, I'm not freaking out too much about, about week one.
B
I agree. I think that just a nice, you said it even keel approach, understanding that the optimism with which you have drafted your teams will likely wane. But there are opportunities for bounce back throughout the season. So start with your high floor players and adjust once the data becomes available.
G
Yes, I think that's great. I mean the one exception would be Guillotine leagues which have become like my favorite format.
B
We're in one of those together. J.J. zachary, who we had on last week. We are all three of us in the same guillotine league and I don't.
G
Know if you recall who, who won that guillotine last year.
B
Liz, I have a feeling you might remind me.
G
It was me. And that's why it's become My favorite format because all I do is win them.
B
Moving back to redraft though, what are you most excited for or which players or situations are you really honing in on and targeting as like hoping to get more information about?
G
Well, he, this, this is very self serving because I have him everywhere. If I've done, you know, eight drafts, I think I have eight shares. He's been my sleeper all preseason and I'm really, I really want to see what this Houston passing offense looks like because their running back situation is, is so gross. I have Jaden Higgins everywhere and the reason I have him everywhere is because I think C.J. stroud is going to throw a lot this season and I think Nico Collins is going to draw a lot of double coverage, which means Jaden Higgins has an opportunity here. If he steps up and makes some noise early to give you Devonta Smith numbers at about half the price, friend.
B
That is a take and interestingly it will jive jive because it's 1972.
G
I wasn't even like the cut of your jib, Liz.
B
Thanks, bud. Thanks, Pale. All right, so you're looking at the Houston receiving corps to see if, if, if Higgins out of Iowa State will pop any other like backfields maybe that you're monitoring backfields?
G
No, obviously I want no part of Houston's. I want no part of New Orleans. I do think that there's something interesting brewing in Jacksonville. I don't think it's going to sort itself out right away, but, you know, come mid season, I have a feeling one of those guys is probably going to emerge. And if you've picked the right one, that could be a really nice, a nice thing that drops into your lap or, you know, if you went crazy and took all three, well, congratulations. You're gonna have a startable running back, you know, mid season and two roster.
B
Spots open up two roster spots that.
G
You can fill with other dudes. I'm also a little curious. I guess I'll. I'll use the backfield as, as the gateway. I really want to see what the Chicago offense look like this season. I want to. I don't know if Minnesota Week 1 is going to be the best, the best version of what we can expect, but I want to see what DeAndre Swift looks like in the Chicago offense.
B
Because, you know, another player we just talked about. James, how is it that you and I are always. I love this about. This is like what tells people that our friendship is authentic because there is a, there is a symbiote, a symbiotic Is that right? Symbiosis. Vulcan.
G
It's Vulcan. Yeah, it's Vulcan in nature and cute.
B
Ears, but Vulcan all the same.
G
Familiarity with, with his new head coach knows exactly what the strengths are and how to use them. Look, this could be a really big year for Swift and, and for those people that grabbed him where you could get him. We could be talking about him being one of the biggest values in all fantasy football by the end of the year.
B
Who's your favorite start and your favorite sit for week one?
G
That's a great question, Liz. You know, I'm a Titan homer as you mentioned, so I'll stick to the self serving answers here. I'm going to say I like the idea of Calvin Ridley in week one. I don't think that the Titans are going to be able to run on the Denver Broncos. Cam Ward's gonna have to throw the ball and you might as well start letting them sling it to see what the future looks like. And I think Calvin Ridley probably, you know, has a floor of, you know, six, seven catches, 80 yards, maybe he throws in a TD. There are certainly more exciting starts than that. But as I told you, I'm going with the Titan. So it's a. My answer was middle but I gave you the reasons why that's okay.
B
You're a Titans fan. We're used to mid.
G
That's right, sit staying on the wide receiver front and and piggybacking off. We just what we just talked about with the Chicago Bears versus the Minnesota Vikings. I don't know that this is the week that I'm throwing Roma dunze out there. I might wait a week on Rome if I have someone like a Ricky Pearsall who I think can go out there and gobble up the majority of targets for his team. Although I do think Roma Dunes is going to have a nice bounce back year after a rather underwhelming rookie season.
B
I think it's going to be a breakout season for him. But I do love that week one take, remembering that this is all a journey and that whatever happens in week one will certainly not be happening in week 17 or 18 and will probably change course many times throughout the season. You mentioned you're a Titans fan. I just want to ask you what are your thoughts on Alec IO Manor? He's getting a lot of buzz. My colleague Field Yates loves him as a sleeper pick this season. So how about you?
G
I think he will work his way into that number two receiver role this year. I think there'll be some deference to Tyler Lockett out of the gates. I think eventually you can probably slide him into the slot, you know, role, which is probably better suited for anyway, and put the kid on the outside. Like I said, this is not a year for wins and losses for the Titans. I don't care how many games we win. If we win six games, I think that would be dope. What I really care about, and I know I'm speaking for the majority of the fan base, is do we have a guy who can be our quarterback for the next 10 years?
B
You famously announced the Titans third pick in the draft, what, two years ago. Is that right?
G
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was the one in Vegas.
B
Who were the picks that you announced and how have they done since? Are you good luck or no?
G
I'm gonna go ahead and say that I am not good luck. Although, can you really base it off one draft? I think you need a bigger sample size before I become like, the kiss of death. I announced Nicholas Petit Ferrer, who's no longer with the team. He also got into some trouble for gambling, I think, and he was a Turton stall at right tackle. And then I sort of crashed the party when the woman from the NFL Network.
B
I love this story.
G
Came out and announced the Malik Willis pick. You know, they brought me in to be the Titan guy, and there I was. And for some reason, you know, she was dead set on announcing that pick. And I said, well, all right, but I'm coming out there, too. So I danced around behind her like a jerk and then ran up to the mic when she was finished, but they turned it off so that nobody could hear me. And, you know, that's something that's going to be on my record forever. It's in the archives.
B
Is that also why maybe you weren't asked back since it's possible?
G
You know, it's semantics, Liz. At the end of the day, you know, there's politics involved. There are other Titans fans. You know, you don't want to gobble up all the glory. So I figured it would be a bit of a cycle, and eventually they would work their way back to me. So let's give it another season or two before we jump to any crazy conclusions.
B
Sure. Well, we are big believers at facts versus feelings of going big and then, you know, reluctantly having to go home. But at least you went big, and.
G
Malik Willis went to the packers and looks a lot better than he ever did on the Titans.
B
Well, as a Bears fan, thanks, James. Appreciate that. James Roday, would you like to play a game?
G
Yes.
B
Okay. We're gonna play a game called this or that. I will read the names of two players and you will tell me which one of them you would prefer to start in week one. Got it?
G
Week one. Got it.
B
All right. First two players up, Ollie Gordon or Jordan Mason.
G
Jordan Mason. I think Ollie Gordon's too much of an unknown still at this point, and the news on a Shan seems to be getting better by the day. So give me Jordan mason and his 10 to 12 touches.
B
Completely agree. Obviously a huge opportunity for Ali Gordon, but HN will be in the mix. And Minnesota are also one and a half point favorites over the Bears. So I think that Mason, particularly in the red area, is going to have some opportunities over Aaron Jones. So the higher floor, as we discussed earlier option, the better. Two more running backs. Austin Eckler or Jakory. Slash. Bill Crosty. Merritt.
G
I love it. Same team. Everybody's going to want to see how these, how these carries break down. I think Austin Eckler is not going to surprise us by getting 20 carries. I think that the, the. The team knows who he is at this point. I think Austin knows who he is at this point.
B
Friend of the show.
G
Yep, Friend of the show. Wants to stay healthy, wants to contribute. So I'm going to take Bill. I'm taking Bill because I think he's going to get the early down work and. And it's just. It's fun to roll the dice on a rookie.
B
Do you make anything of the fact that Bill is listed as the RB4 on the team's depth chart? I personally think it's not noise, but do you.
G
I wouldn't tell. I wouldn't tell my opponent in week one like how I'm going to use this kid. So, yeah, I wouldn't read. I wouldn't read too much into that.
B
I agree. I think I have them ranked as like RB42 and RB44. So very close. I probably would defer to Austin, but maybe I have a personal bias. Two wide receivers this or that. Juwan Jennings or the aforementioned Ricky Piersall.
G
I think this is a Ricky Pierce all week. He's had a full preseason. The chemistry I think is there with his quarterback, Juan. We don't know where he's at physically. We don't know where he's at mentally because of the contract situation. So give me peircel all day long.
B
Totally agree. Also, at a certain point, we have to look at these players pedigrees, their draft pedigrees, and we know that Jennings is a seventh round Pick Peircel is a first round pick. And so the opportunities and the investment are different. I agree with you. I think Pearsall is going to eat huge on him this week. Finally, two grizzled veterans, Adam Thielen or Keenan Allen, both returning to their home, their homes.
G
This one is really close, but I'm going to give the edge to the guy who's going back to the same quarterback that he played with the last time. So I'm going to go Keenan Allen because those guys hooked up for a lot of. A lot of pitch and catches. And he knows where to Justin wants him to be. He'll be there. I don't think it'll be extraordinary and I can't imagine why anyone would need to start either of these guys in week one. But if you do, I think the floor is higher with Keenan.
B
You're in enough 14 team leagues, James. This one's for those who dig deep. For what it's worth, I agree with you the analysis about the quarterback spot on. I have Keenan Allen as my wide receiver 47 and Adam Thielen as my wide receiver 50. So again if you are digging deep or you're in one of those really large teamed leagues, here are some options. All right, we're going to end on a tight end because it's my favorite position. Chig Okonkwo or Brenton Strange.
G
Well, I can tell you that Gunner Helm made a lot of noise during the preseason and the Titan brass are really excited about this kid. And I think think that we're going to see some more 12 personnel from them. And because of that, even with Chig's run after catch potential that we know he has higher floor again is probably going to be Bryn Strange.
B
I mean this is like picking from both of my children. So I'm just going to do what you tell me to do. I think I have Strange ranked a little bit higher for that same reason. But I love both of these. I love both of these players especially obviously as streaming options. So no surprise we are in agreement. Two more just for fun. Acting or directing?
G
At this point in my life it's directing and it's not particularly close.
B
Knew that would be the answer. Should we tell everyone that you have directed a couple episodes of high potential?
G
Yeah, I did a couple last season and I did the two part season two premiere which I believe drops this month. I'm either right or wrong about that. But when it comes back, the first two hours are our big action packed must see network television. I lived through it And I can vouch for it.
B
Apples or pineapples?
G
James, an entire community of human beings that I owe a great deal of my success to would. Would kill me if I didn't say pineapples.
B
Agreed. James Roday, thank you so much for hanging out with me, for calling, for chatting fantasy football. Can you please tell everyone what you're working on, where they can find your worker? Whatever you want to tell the people, use this opportunity to do so.
G
Yeah, sure. I'm in Connecticut doing one of my favorite plays of all time called Noises Off. It's one of the purest forms of farce ever written for the stage. We're in Brantford, Connecticut, at the Legacy Theater. I think most of the shows are sold out, but you never know. If you get a wild hare and you want to come out, you probably get a hold of a single ticket. After that, I'm off to Spain to direct a horror movie that I'm really excited about that'll take me well into next year. So that's what I'm looking at in the foreseeable future.
B
Tighten up. Have a great week one. I'll talk to you soon.
G
Thank you to you and your whole squad. Let's go, football season.
B
Thanks, James. Next up, when your head says no, but your heart says yes. But Daddy, I love him is after the break.

Now we're going to talk about a guy who, yeah, was limited to just eight games last season during which he caught a career low 27 balls and couldn't even clear 400 receiving yards. In fact, his efficiency dipped so much that he was traded to a different squad in the same division. But you know what Danny?
G
I love him.
B
Christian Kirk is giving sleeper vibes in Week one, Stefan Diggs is off the squad and Tank Dell is likely to miss the season. Admittedly, Iowa State rookies Jaden Higgins and Jalen Noel have turned heads over the summer, but Kirk is locked in as the Texans number two behind Nico Collins, at least for right now. I like his chances of serving up flex numbers in PPR friendly formats while chasing points against a middling Rams secondary. And on that note, it's time for Last Call. Today we learned that puppies should live forever, that crashing an NFL executive's mic moment won't get you asked back to the NFL draft, and that everything is temporary. That's why we want so desperately to cling to the highs, but are also simultaneously grateful when the lows subside. It's important to remember, though, that while nothing is permanent, everything is worth the experience.
