Fantasy Focus. What's good friends welcome into Fantasy Focus Football alongside Stefania Bell and Phil Jates. My name is Daniel Dot. Back here on the other side of Labor Day weekend, we are just two. A mere two days away from actual football.
Field Yates
Thank God. I. I cannot wait.
Daniel Dopp
Stefania, what about you?
Stefania Bell
I. I feel the same way. Speechless.
Field Yates
Oh, literally speechless over the. The possibility of football.
Stefania Bell
I'm so excited. I mean, listen, the celebration started for me when Miami beat Notre Dame. Just going to throw that in there. I mean, you know, so my week got off to a great start. On Sunday night.
Field Yates
Cars are back doing some big things down there in South Florida. Pretty impressive.
Stefania Bell
And now think about this. We have football. Like, Thursday night.
Field Yates
Yeah.
Stefania Bell
Friday, Friday night, Sunday, all day. Sunday night, Monday night.
Field Yates
Yeah, it's the best. You know, I used to do this.
Stefania Bell
The best.
Daniel Dopp
This last weekend was the technical holiday, but I feel like this upcoming weekend is like our real holiday. That's right.
Field Yates
Back in the day, I used to do this, like, every summer. It'd be like July 28th on a Sunday night, and I'd be like, this is the last week without football until the super bowl comes to a conclusion. Like, technically, yeah, like the hall of Fame game and then the preseason. But, like, let's not kid ourselves. Nothing compares to the actual NFL season. Cannot wait for Cowboys and Eagles on Thursday night. Micah Parsons chasing down Jalen.
Daniel Dopp
Oh, wait, did you hear that he got traded.
Field Yates
Oh, oh. To the Packers.
Daniel Dopp
So weird.
Field Yates
Yes. Cowboys, Eagles.
Daniel Dopp
Can't wait.
Field Yates
Thursday night and then Friday night. Stefania mentioned as well down in Brazil, but we got a lot to get to today and we have a great, great show and we're going to get you as ready for week one as we possibly can.
Daniel Dopp
Yeah, we're going to talk about players that will define the season today. We each brought a handful of players to the table.
Stefania Bell
Funny we should bring this back at the end of the year and be like, how wrong were we? Like, were any of the ones that we picked the ones who we end up? Because at the end of the year, we always do the awards, right. We talk about who was, like, a league winner and who, like, made the season. And I'd just be. It'd be fun to look back and see, like, oh, nope, didn't have this guy on my radar.
Field Yates
Sure. Well, we'll miss some. But I also think, like a lot of these players, I think the part of the reason why I think some of the choices I made are viable is that, like, no matter how things turn out for that player, it's consequential.
Stefania Bell
Oh, and we'll get into that in just a bit.
Field Yates
Yeah. There will be plenty. Plenty more that we do not pick that will certainly influence the outcome of the upcoming season.
Daniel Dopp
We got a lot of people we will dive into, but first and foremost, let's start with just a little bit of news, if you guys do not mind. Ideally, this was the busiest draft weekend of the season, but there are still teams that are going to be drafting today, tomorrow, even on Thursday.
Field Yates
Before myself, six more drafts.
Daniel Dopp
We only have two days until football field.
Field Yates
I jam pack it in.
Daniel Dopp
Wow. Okay. Love that. Love that. Well, just so that you know, for your drafts, if you're thinking about drafting Puk Nukua or Devonte Adams, it sounds like Matthew Stafford is expected to start against the Houston Texans. Is that surprising?
Stefania Bell
Told you so.
Daniel Dopp
Yeah. Like, I mean, I felt like we were leaning this way, weren't we, Stefania?
Stefania Bell
Yeah, we were. When I came back from the camp where he was, remember I told you guys that he was there at the joint practice with the Cowboys, and one of the things that was a hint to me then was that he took the bus supposedly bad back. You're not gonna be riding a bus in LA traffic if that's the case. He stood there at practice and was consulting with Jimmy G the whole time. Standing around is not something you do if you're in a ton of pain. So I think what happened is, is the first time he went out to throw, and that's when Sean McVay was giving all the regular updates. He went out and threw and had some soreness, as one does sometimes when you do a lot of rotation and you're coming off a disc aggravation. And then they adjusted the schedule, and that's when Sean McVeigh started saying, well, it's, you know, kind of. It made it like, I'm not going to give you the updates every single day. And it's fluid. And I think there was a lot of panic when people heard that, but it was always about Getting him to the starting point. I don't think internally they were ever really nervous. I think they just stopped making people talk about it on a daily basis. So this is where I expected them to be and I think they'll do a good job of managing him all year.
Daniel Dopp
Yeah, I don't Matthew Stafford, not someone that we were drafting. However, this is good news for all the people that we would draft in that offense.
Field Yates
I'll tell you what, despite this update and despite Stefania's confidence that has permeated for the past month, I'm still seeing a discount on Pukinakua. Yeah, I think that people understood. We say this often. You can't win your league in the first round, but you can lose your league in the first round. I've seen Puka slide quite a bit quite often. I'm talking to like the middle of the second round because people are not nervous necessarily about whether Matthew Stafford will be there for week one. They're just nervous about a 37 year old quarterback dealing with some level of pain in his back during the preseason and how he'll hold up over the course of the.
Stefania Bell
I would, I would say to those people he's had a back problem for multiple years so this could have been an issue at any point.
Daniel Dopp
He had to carry my Lions for like a decade. So he's. They're really part of the, part of the problem.
Stefania Bell
But I think, I think because it was so close to the start of the season, people are more nervous and of course you get a little older and it's your back so people get more nervous than they. But I would say, you know, Justin Jefferson had a hamstring issue coming into the season. Don't see a lot of discount on him. And he's had a hamstring problem before and that's a wide receiver with a hamstring. So I, I don't see it that differently. I mean they are two different elements. But I think you're right. Take advantage if Puka Nuku is in.
Daniel Dopp
Your drafting when you guys. Just because I've never been in this situation before but quick deviation here. I know we just started, but quick deviation. I've never been on a team bus before. When you ride like one of those great. I've been on a Greyhound. Are the team buses like first class in an airplane but in a bus or are they just like a regular bus?
Field Yates
That elevated comfort, I'd call them. Elevated.
Daniel Dopp
Elevated comfort. Yeah.
Field Yates
You know, I mean it still sucks to have to go to the bathroom.
Daniel Dopp
On a team I can imagine.
Stefania Bell
But in your history with bathrooms, I.
Daniel Dopp
Would not want to be that guy.
Field Yates
The biggest luxury you get when traveling on a team bus with the professional sports team most of the time is a police escort.
Daniel Dopp
Ah.
Field Yates
Wherever you're going.
Daniel Dopp
Okay.
Field Yates
If it's 12 miles and it takes 30 minutes without traffic, it's going to take you 30 minutes on a team bus.
Daniel Dopp
Okay.
Field Yates
Which in Los angeles, you know, 12 miles in LA could take you the whole day.
Stefania Bell
The police escort. This much.
Daniel Dopp
This much. Well, Stefania, we got another little bit of news really quickly before we dive into the players who will define the season. We saw Juwan Jennings back out there at practice. Any updates here from his injury perspective? I don't think he's secured a bag yet, so I'm just wondering if he is better being back out there on the field.
Stefania Bell
Combination of things like there's still uncertainty. Right. But the. But I think it sounds like, I would assume that in the background it means things are positive. Right. Encouraging. Because this is the next step forward. And also there has to be some acclimation. When you have not been out on the field, you worry about a guy who has not been doing anything in football. Now, the reporters who were there were not really open to see what exactly he did beyond the portion open to the media. So we still don't know how much he's doing and we still don't know if he'll be available week one, but.
Field Yates
It'S a step forward, a grand opportunity here. If Juan Jennings was healthy and had a contract and you knew he was good to go in week one and we expected him to have the role that we projected early this off season. I think you would be very excited about Juwan Jennings in your fantasy lineup. He's now been dropping because of the uncertainty here. So we got one of the two important updates. Now, we're still waiting for the Adam Shafter tweet that says breaking news. Juwan Jennings and the 49ers have agreed to him whatever 3 or $45 million extension, but I don't think just defying this point, if this ankle slash contractitis was so bad that they felt like they were so far off from getting a deal done that he would have showed to practice yesterday. Ankle. What is it again? Calf. My bad. Yes.
Daniel Dopp
Okay. We'll continue to monitor that. However, like you said, field, that's another guy that has been sliding down draft boards because of the uncertainty going into the season.
Stefania Bell
I would just say if you have Ricky Pearsall, I think there's a Decent chance that no matter what his health status is, Joanne Jennings doesn't play just because he has not practiced. He did have a calf injury in the spring. The last thing you want to do is put him out there if he's not ready to go. And so if he plays, might be minimal. Good chance for Ricky Piersol to do his thing.
Daniel Dopp
49Ers do not want to bring him back too quickly because they are like all the rest of the teams trying to win a championship, just like us here in fantasy football. Field Yates
All righty.
Daniel Dopp
All right, let's dive into our players who will define the football season Field. Yates.
Field Yates
Yeah, and this is one of those where, again, it can be interpreted kind of however you want it, really. Um, I, you know, I'm gonna do here is I know Stefania and I shared a brain on a couple of our picks, which I think only reinforces why these guys are going to probably define the season. No, I didn't. These are all submitted blindly. So I came in with a longer list than we were asked for just in case we had some crossover.
Daniel Dopp
Did you guys see my list? Because I accidentally replied all to all of our producers and put everyone in there and then I unsent it as.
Field Yates
I did not know.
Daniel Dopp
Okay, good.
Stefania Bell
I never saw your list.
Daniel Dopp
Okay, we're good to go.
Stefania Bell
Basically, we've never seen each other's list, but.
Field Yates
So, yes, we did not see them, but I do have a general sense of where there could be some crossover. And again, how. How these players or how we define what it means to define the season can be interpreted a bit subjectively, but I think without question. Number one player who will define the upcoming season is Christian McCaffrey. And the reason is, of course, the 49ers running back. If he is healthy for 17 games this season and performs close to expectation of what we have seen from Christian McCaffrey, then it turns out he will be the best player in fantasy football most likely again. Right? We have seen Christian McCaffrey be the king of fantasy football for what, three or four seasons previously. Not only that, but we have seen Christian McCaffrey come back from years in which he was a complete bust because of injury and then retake that crown as the best player in fantasy football right now. Here are the good things he has going for him. He's healthy. He's very healthy according to Kyle Shanahan. He looks tremendous according to Kyle Shanahan. On top of that, the first 49ers are razor thin this year, not just at running back compared to how they have been previously, but just in general at the skill positions. They are not the same loaded wagon they have been during years in which Juwan Jennings is their fourth receiver and he could could be their number one wide receiver this season. And so it's obvious what the upside is for Christian McCaffrey. But there are people that were burned last year by CMC and they're saying to themselves, I'm not taking him again in the first round because if he gets hurt, I have no one to blame. I but myself so love those people.
Daniel Dopp
Because they let CMC slide to me in drafts. So.
Field Yates
But yeah, so to me it's Christian McCaffrey again. If he has a great year, like if he stays healthy for 17 games, it feels like he is a very, very strong bet to be a top five fantasy scoring running back on a points per game basis. So to me, this list began with Christian McCaffrey. I think Stefania agreed.
Stefania Bell
Yes, yes.
Daniel Dopp
To everything that you cosign on all of it.
Stefania Bell
Here's the thing. I mean, you said it. He has the opportunity to not just be the number one running back to Fantasies, the opportunity to be the number one player. And I think the, the confidence in the fantasy community has grown because now his ADP is at 7.4. When we started doing the mock draft project, remember it was like second round, maybe the tail end of the first. And now he's moving to in some cases early in the first round, depending how confident you are. In some cases later in the first round. I think that's why the average hits at around 7. So if you are bold enough to take him number two like I did in Scott Fishbowl, I've taken him early in a couple drafts or and it pays off, then it's huge. But the flip side is also the case. If you get burned because you made that pick, then there potentially goes your fantasy season. As many people found out last year.
Daniel Dopp
The difference between this year and last year is that last year you had to use the number one overall pick on Christian McCaffrey. This year you might be able to use pick five through ten. Right. Depending on where your league is at. So while it still crushes you. Yeah. It gives you a discount if something does happen.
Stefania Bell
It's still, it's interesting how you feel about it. It's still your first pick, right? It's still your first pick. You're deciding with your first pick. This is the direction I want to go, but I think that's where the risk is, is, is baked in because we know that anybody coming off a soft tissue injury has some risk. It's part of the history. But we also know the history with McCaffrey is different than anybod. He's come back following an injury plague season to have excellent years, including a career year. And when he went from Carolina to San Francisco, he played in all 17 games that year. And if you look at it in 2023, I think was his first year.
Daniel Dopp
Full season, full year in San Francisco.
Stefania Bell
First full year in San Francisco. He had a career high in rushing yards with 14:59 and yards per carry at 5.4. Also played in three postseason games that year. And that was, that was the year after that was his first full season. But the year prior when he moved over, he played in three postseason games too. So he went from a 20 season, 20 game year, if you will, regular and post to another 20 game year. That's pretty remarkable. So last thing 19 because they gave him one. They gave him one week off for health before.
Field Yates
The last thing I'll say here and then we can go to Stefania's first slash second pick, which I think coincides with my first slash second pick is just think of it this way for Christian McCaffrey. If he plays all 17 games and balls out, it's the not so fast, my friends, to discounting me as still an elite fantasy player. Jameer Gibbs, Saquon Barkley, Bajan Robinson. I belonged in that conversation. If he kind of regresses and plays a lot but is no longer at that elite level, he's become Alvin Kamara right where Alvin Kamara is now. A guy who at his best was one of the what best running backs, best players in all of fantasy football. We're still drafting Alvin Kamara as an RB2, but not too many people are going into this season like Alvin Kamara deserves to go in the first six or seven picks. Right. The third outcome is doesn't say healthy or he does stay healthy and he doesn't perform well at all. I think that last outcome outcome is pretty unlikely. But if he doesn't say Healthy, then I think people are just going to say to themselves, somebody else can draft Christian McCaffrey every year going forward.
Stefania Bell
If he does, then Mike CLAY Here's a 29 year old running back.
Daniel Dopp
That's right.
Field Yates
Shove it, Mike.
Daniel Dopp
That's right.
Stefania Bell
Algorithms.
Daniel Dopp
Stefania, did you have CMC as one of your players on this list?
Stefania Bell
He was my top.
Daniel Dopp
He was your top play. All right, so then I'm going to do my number one player so that way you guys aren't getting too far ahead. And it's not, I don't want to say my number one player. It's just my first player on the list. I don't have them ordered in list of the most defining season versus the rest of them. However, I do want to say that Jameson Williams is one of the guys that I think will define the season.
Field Yates
Interesting. I'm surprised you went with a lion.
Daniel Dopp
I, I wanted to have him at the bottom of the list now that we've started. But I recognize that, I mean when I sent it that's just where my brain was at. But JMO is one of these guys. How often have you seen someone with the start of a career like Jameson Williams be able to turn into a consistent fantasy product? It doesn't happen very often. He had a really, really weird rookie season obviously with the suspension, the injury, excuse me, going into the suspension into his second year and then we saw him last year really start to thrive in that. Ben Johnson led offense, right. Being able to be that deep threat. He turned in a wide receiver 22 season, but he only caught the ball 50. Sometimes he hit a thousand yards but like he just wasn't utilized a lot. Vibes right now out of Lions camp with the way they want to utilize Jameson Williams with John Morton coming in as the new OC feels like they're going to get him more involved. He's going to have a much bigger route tree than what he was seemingly going to have under Ben Johnson. And so thinking about it's not just Jameson Williams, but it's players like Zay Flowers or George Pickens. They're all going in like this same range right where we look at them as these boom bust prospects. But what if they added consistency to their game? Yeah, right now it feels like George Pickens and Jameson Williams are two of those wide receivers that have been looked at as boom bust wide receivers that maybe this year we're hearing there may be more consistency to their game and not just that deep shot down the field because of the way that they're going to utilize both of them within their offenses. So I think Jameson Williams here. Now, one thing you have to know is that if Jameson does become one of these guys, who's it coming from in this offense?
Field Yates
That to me is.
Daniel Dopp
And that's part of why he defines the season two is because if he does become that guy, is it Laporta or Amon Ra or one of the running backs is going to have less production?
Field Yates
I was my. As I was formulating my response to what you were saying very eloquently about Jameson Williams, it was basically, if Jamo hits, where is the discount coming elsewhere? Because I think we have evidence that this we. I know we have evidence this Lions offense can support two fantasy megastars at minimum per season. Right. Last year it was Amun Ra and Jameer Gibbs LaPorta two years ago, along with Amon Ra. It's kind of always been Amon Ra plus somebody else.
Daniel Dopp
Right.
Field Yates
But to a degree, Jameer Gibbs, I mean, Jameer Gibbs as a rookie was really good. He just made that huge step forward last year. So if JMO hits, I think the most logical two players to see some level of discount would be Sam Laporta or Amon Ra St Brown. A little bit like. And I'm not talking a dramatic discount for Amon Ra, but we're talking about choosing between Amon Ra and Malik Neighbors and Puka Nukua. And it could be the difference between Amon Rob being ahead of those two guys or perhaps behind those two guys if JMO hits. I thought about. I thought about a lot of Lions for this category. Daniel, so good pick there.
Daniel Dopp
I like the idea of just. And I recognize Jameson Williams was the face of this, but I think George Pickens falls into that same kind of category. Coming into a new offense is going to be very pass heavy guys that maybe could be a little bit more consistent.
Field Yates
Yeah, I think Pickens has a clear path to that. Only because Dallas is going to be booty cheeks on defense.
Daniel Dopp
100%. 100%.
Stefania Bell
Throwing the ball a whole heck of a lot.
Field Yates
Yeah, throwing the ball a ton. And we're not really drafting besides cd we're not drafting a single cowboy. Like they're going to have this gigantic role. Like Jake Ferguson's going is what, tight end 11 or something? You could be tight end 11 and have an okay season with two wide receivers around you. Dominating.
Daniel Dopp
Yep.
Field Yates
All right, Stefania, pick one, slash two.
Stefania Bell
Well, my first was Christian McAffrey. So would you like me to move on?
Daniel Dopp
Yeah, let's do pick number Two, you're a number two player who will define the season.
Stefania Bell
Another running back, Ashton Genty.
Field Yates
This was my second biggest wells to find really. People, you know, people again, people say that Princeton is the Wesleyan of New Jersey. So no surprise that our brain is the same.
Daniel Dopp
That's what people say.
Field Yates
A lot of people say that.
Stefania Bell
Yeah.
Field Yates
It was written up in various ways.
Stefania Bell
Maybe as we get our hair done at the same time.
Field Yates
Sure.
Daniel Dopp
Maybe that's what it is. Maybe that's what it is.
Stefania Bell
Field now takes almost as long as I do.
Field Yates
What are we doing today? Up down, party in the middle Anyway.
Stefania Bell
Ashton Genty, because he. We don't see rookie running backs get this much hype usually. But here's a guy who was drafted sixth overall by the Raiders. You know the workload's going to be high. You know, they're looking to him to boost their offense. And he was so dominant in college. And I think what we saw in college was that he could be a pass catcher. And then his last year in college he was really more of a pure rusher and he put up over 2,500 yards in college his last year. 2500. That's ridiculous.
Field Yates
Yes.
Stefania Bell
So we've seen him be effective at carrying the ball. Meaning I think he can do anything that the Raiders offense asks him to. And that's what people are counting on. The question is, can the offense be that productive against the defenses that they will face. So I think it'll be really interesting to see how Ashton Gente lands. He's being drafted like the running back who could help you win your league. But of course, again, like we're talking about with these early picks, if you invest heavily in him. Because I've seen it with like we're looking at these top running backs, the Christian McCaffrey, Saquon, Jameer Gibbs. Obviously Bijan going first overall. In many cases, people struggling with the Jamar Chase or Bijan is the number one pick and Ashton Jetty is kind of hanging out there close. Close enough. Kind of moved up into the late first round for some people. So kind of the same argument as McCaffrey. If he succeeds, he could be the guy we're talking about the end of the year that made you win your league. If it is not a success or he suffers an injury. I hate to say that out loud. Cause that's really for everybody, right?
Field Yates
Yeah.
Stefania Bell
Injury happens then it derails your season.

You said somebody, you said a name during your explanation of Ashan Genti eloquently said, like Daniel Jamo, that I think is important. Bajan Robinson. Right? Because Bajan was in this similar category two seasons ago. And if you look at Bajan's rookie numbers, you're thinking to yourself like that's okay, like I'm just going to pull them up here. Bijon had just shy of 1500 total yards as a rookie and he had eight touchdowns.
Daniel Dopp
That's pretty good.
Field Yates
But did it feel like it at the time?
Daniel Dopp
No, because freaking Arthur Smith. Arthur Smith does.
Field Yates
He had four rushing touchdowns because he was, you know, now as, as we saw with Bijan, you know, second season was unbelievable. And then, you know, we're obviously, you know, we've had just a ridiculous run or we have a ridiculous projection, I should say for Bijan this upcoming season. That's where gen that that to me is why Genti is going to define the season. Because if he hits and he has the Saquon season, which Saquon was RB1 overall as a rookie, which I think is in the realm of possibilities for Ashton Genti because it's not like Saquon was playing with like you know, the Philadelphia Eagles offensive line as a rookie.
Daniel Dopp
Right?
Field Yates
He was playing with on A pretty pedestrian New York Giants team on the whole, Ashton Genti could get there as well. If he's just okay, then there are going to be people in the comments section, metaphorically, maybe literally as well, saying like you told me to take Ash and Genti when I could have just taken either A, one of the running backs. I'm sorry, one of the wide receivers again, Malik neighbors. I'm on Ross St. Brown, Puka Nakua or B. What about the Old Faithfuls? What about just taking Jonathan Taylor and Derrick Henry and Josh Jacobs, whom maybe their ceiling isn't as high as the guys like Bajan Robinson and Christian McCaffrey and Jameer Gibbs and Saquon Barkley, but I have a very strong confidence level that at worst, Derek Henry would be like the 10th best running back in fantasy this season. So the range of outcomes pretty wide here for Ashton Jackson.
Stefania Bell
Also think like who's competing with him, right? They brought Rahimo Sturt over there. Zemir White, whose season ended unfortunately, like there's just not competition for him. You got a Chip Kelly offense, which I'll be interested to see what it looks like this go round with the Raiders. But no matter where he's been or what he's been up to in terms of how he structured the offense, there's always. It's always supported the run game. And so I do think that there's going to be a lot of creativity with Ashton Genty who gives him that. How you can't not let the most electric player on the field, which I believe he will be.
Field Yates
Yes. Not touchable, I guess. I guess they have Brock Bowers maybe I should consider. But that's the co most electric player on the field.
Daniel Dopp
How great is that though, honestly, like you would rather have as a running back, a rookie running back. You'd rather have someone to help defenses, like be honest, like having a guy like Brock Powers is not going to be negative for him.
Field Yates
Helps I think for Ashton Jetty because they will be a representative offense at worst. Daniel, who's your second?
Daniel Dopp
All right, well, you guys were going with a rookie. I thought why not bring a rookie to the table myself? Even though we didn't plan this.
Field Yates
Okay.
Daniel Dopp
I think we spent too much time talking about the wrong rookie wide receiver. Oh, and I believe that Tetra McMillan is going to be a player who will define the season and there's a couple of reasons why. First off, shout out to our friend Matthew Berry. He just wrote his last love hate of his career. Go and check that out. We've all been a part of his Love hates at some point.
Stefania Bell
The Love hate column and everybody who felt the emotion of that.
Daniel Dopp
Yep. One of the things that he had in there that I also had in my stats, so it made me feel good to be able to read that. But the last eight wide receivers that were drafted inside the top 10 have all seen at least 100 targets. Tedro McMillan going to be one of those guys. The other one, obviously Travis Hunter for this year. But when I look at this Carolina Panthers offense, Adam Thielen now no longer there. Jalen Coker going to start the season on IR. We're looking at Xavier Leggett and Tea McMillan as the main pass catchers in this offense. Would it shock you with the way that they've used Tetaroa so far in the preseason? And it's just the preseason. Right. But what it shocked you if he finished the season with a 30% target share in this offense?
Field Yates
That's a big number. Probably not, though.
Daniel Dopp
I think about Malik Neighbors last year and I don't want to put out there that he's going to be Malik Neighbors. But there was no one else to really throw the football to in that offense. And he also didn't have a great quarterback in Daniel Jones. And yet he was drafted where he was drafted for a reason. The pedigree of Teteroa McMillan being this big 6 foot 4 wide receiver for Bryce Young in this ascending Panthers offense. When I think about tea McMillan, I feel like we spent too much time talking about Travis Hunter. And I believe Tedro McMillan will be the number one scoring rookie wide receiver in fantasy football in 2025. I do want to say, if you draft Travis Hunter, I've gotten a lot of questions on social media. I don't know if you guys have gotten the same ones or not. If you draft Travis Hunter and he has a pick six and he has a pick six or he gets a fumble recovery, the only things that you will get points for is if he scores, if he gets in the end zone. Just like if Trey McBride fumbles into the end zone and T. Higgins falls on it. T. Higgins gets six points, but he doesn't get the yards, he doesn't get the receptions. Right.
Field Yates
It's the same news that T. Higgins has been traded.
Daniel Dopp
I did not. No, no, no. I did not. I'm just saying that if that had happened, like that's, that's what it would be. Right. I'm just, you know, from that perspective, so humble.
Field Yates
Recoveries, no sacks.
Daniel Dopp
Sacks, no interceptions, no tackles. No. You Won't get any of those points. Only if he gets in the end zone. If you want to be able to do that.
Field Yates
Yeah.
Daniel Dopp
Then you go into your league manager abilities and you turn on all the defensive stats because they're available for you at ESPN to be able to do that. You can turn it on so that you can have defensive stats available for players. However, you cannot do that after a draft has happened.
Field Yates
Okay.
Daniel Dopp
You can, like, I'm just saying, like, not like you could, but like, you just shouldn't. Right. Like you shouldn't go in and change it because other people would have looked at Travis Hunter differently.
Field Yates
Yeah. I mean, it's like the chances of him having a defensive touchdown are actually pretty low. Like, not many guys are guarantees to score a touchdown.
Daniel Dopp
Just talking about a wide receiver, I wanted to say that rookie wide receiver.
Field Yates
It actually is kind of like a low key, fun thing to do in general, even if Travis Hunter wasn't in the NFL. Because like, sometimes, you know, quarterbacks throw interceptions and a wide receiver makes a tackle and they get credit for that tackle. They get one point.
Daniel Dopp
Calf chasing a guy down like 85 yards. Oh, that's what it was.
Field Yates
Yeah. But like if you have a random stat correction where all of a sudden your wide receiver is credited for a tackle because of an interception his quarterback threw, and you get that stat correction on Wednesday morning and you get the extra point, you win your matchup. That is pretty legit.
Daniel Dopp
That would be sick.
Field Yates
All right, so I hope that our producers don't get mad at me for doing this, but because you just brought up Travis Hunter, I'm going to go to my pick four. Okay. But I'll call him pick three in case. Okay. And I took the rules a bit liberally here. My player that will define the season is Liam Cohen, who actually is not a player. He played quarterback back in the day.
Stefania Bell
Totally out of bounds, but yeah, I.
Field Yates
Mean, what, so he's keeping score here or something?
Daniel Dopp
Is he going to stand on the sideline? He's stand on the sideline. Right.
Field Yates
He's not a player. But, you know, I thought it was important to mention Liam Cohen because it applies to multiple situations. It's true. So Liam Cohen, of course, the Jaguars head coach and their play caller on offense and decision maker on a lot of important things here. And there are two things amongst a few others, but two things that we are really focusing in on for the Jaguars offense right now. One is how much offense is Travis Hunter play? And I think it's important to note that how much he plays in week one, does not guarantee how much offense he plays in week two and subsequent weeks after that. But nobody is. Well, maybe the wide receivers coach or the defensive backs coach, but basically nobody is at the control panel on the Travis Hunter situation more than Liam Cohen is. And we keep saying it. You know, if you think you're going to get 80% of the offensive snaps from Travis Hunter, I'd probably be ranking him as a top 20 wide receiver. If you think it's closer to 70 or 60, then maybe it's more like 25 to 30. If you think it's below 60% of the snaps, it's probably a guy that should be drafted as like a wide receiver 5 or at at best, right? Like, it's just hard to make a mark unless you somehow score 15 touchdowns this season. So he's going to have direct influence on how much Travis Hunter plays week in, week out on offense. I'm hopeful that like a month into the season we have a general lean of where it ends up. Hey, the guy is so talented on both sides of the ball, but given our team needs right now, we feel like he's a bit more important to us on offense and he's playing. Call it 70% of those offensive snaps and 50% on defense. Maybe it's the inverse. We'll find out. But the other part of this is, of course, that Liam Cohen's going to be deciding on how the backs are utilized. And we have a very crowded and uncertain backfield in Jacksonville. I think three guys all have talent. I still think that Travis Etienne can play. I still believe that Tank Bigsby is a good goal line finisher. And then Bashel tutin is a 4th round dynamo. The guy ran a 43340 at the combine. The fastest of any running back and not that far behind Matthew golden as the fastest offensive player in the entire combine for 2025. So Liam Cohen is a very, very important individual this year. I know I bucked the rules a little bit, but I thought it was important to note just how much uncertainty there is for a Jacksonville offense that if things hit and Liam Cohen's been around, some good offenses could be a very important one for fantasy, but it also could be that the backfield is pretty much divided. Travis Hunter only plays 60% of the offensive snaps and that means that the only player we're using week in and week out for the Jaguars offense is Brian Thomas Jr. It could be like last year down the stretch where the backfield was not particularly favorable to either player at Least enough so that you're calling them a top 15 or 20 back.
Daniel Dopp
Honestly, make fun of me for. It stretches. No, it stretches the boundaries, being able to talk about a coach. But I. It all makes sense when you lay it out. I understand it all, so I will allow it. Stefania, will you allow it?
Stefania Bell
Oh, no, I allow it. I'm just. I was. Got me thinking about all this. I'm like, well, now I'm thinking about Ben Johnson.
Daniel Dopp
I should. I should have said something like that.
Field Yates
So I, I actually.
Stefania Bell
And we could go. The.
Daniel Dopp
Don't look at the rest.
Stefania Bell
We go by the subject. Come on.
Field Yates
It will not be Ben Johnson. But. But I. So I. I thought about it. I could have made the case for several play callers and I thought to myself, one is the maximum. I will.
Daniel Dopp
This is why Field said these lists are subjective before we even got started. A little before we got going there.
Field Yates
So I hope you guys understood where that was coming.
Daniel Dopp
Absolutely. Makes a ton of sense.
Stefania Bell
Well, are we going to go as far as saying, well, Liam Cohen, no longer with the Bucs. So now if all of the Bucs fantasy players you drafted did not have the season you were hoping for, do.
Daniel Dopp
We tip it back to Liam Cohen? Hey, why not?
Stefania Bell
I mean, we can extrapolate.
Daniel Dopp
We'll see how that works. All right, Stefania, give us your third player. Yeah, because you and Field shared the first two.
Stefania Bell
Yeah.
Daniel Dopp
And so now we're on your third player. Do you also have a head coach or offensive coordinator on the list?
Stefania Bell
I'm. I'm still. I'm trying to remember where we were. How many who did you.
Daniel Dopp
Jameson and Teow McMillan. McMillan and you and Field both did CMC. And Ashton Genti.
Stefania Bell
Right. And then he went that off the rails and.
Daniel Dopp
Correct.
Stefania Bell
Liam Cohen. Okay, I'm going with Martin all of a sudden. Marvin Harrison Jr. Nice.
Field Yates
Okay, it was on my list if I got on my five, but I was on my long list.
Daniel Dopp
One of the lists.
Stefania Bell
How many people do you have on here?
Field Yates
No, I came up with. I had like 20 names.
Stefania Bell
Oh, okay. Cheaper. Always one in the classroom. Just say no.
Field Yates
I just wanted to. If we had crossover, I wanted to have artillery just in case, you know, we had time.
Stefania Bell
It's okay.
Daniel Dopp
Was it like that when you were at Wesleyan when you had assignments? Would you bring in, like, an extra couple? I read chapter 7 through 10 as well.
Field Yates
I wasn't just so, you know, more.
Stefania Bell
Work than everybody else.
Field Yates
Dominant athlete at Wesleyan, where I started exactly one game in my combined, you know, however many seasons there on the field. So I was too busy preparing to watch from the bench to worry about class. Class. What is class.
Stefania Bell
Gonna have to talk with Kimberly A. About this Wesleyan reference.
Field Yates
I mean, go look for the stats. You're gonna be really hard to find to get, like, one of those. Like, one of those, like, microscopes you see at, like, astrological museums where you're just like, oh, you still can't see anything.
Daniel Dopp
Is there a.
Stefania Bell
Is there a microscope?
Field Yates
There was a game. I've told this recently. Like, probably or. No. A stethoscope. No.
Daniel Dopp
Telescope, stethoscope, field, whatever.
Field Yates
They probably have stethoscopes there, too, don't they? Stethoscope is a thing you put on.
Daniel Dopp
Yes. Doctors, right? Yes.
Field Yates
Make sure your heart's still. Your ticker's still working. Your ticker's still ticking. Yeah. I started one game. My football career was a sophomore year where the two starting safeties missed practice on Friday. So they're like, well, you can't start those guys. We'll play field for, like, four snaps, and then we'll yank them. Message was sent.
Daniel Dopp
That was. Yeah, the message was sent. Player is what that was.
Stefania Bell
But those four snaps were awesome.
Daniel Dopp
They felt good.
Stefania Bell
All right.
Daniel Dopp
What did you say? Oh, Marvin Harrison Jr. That's right. That's actually a good one. Stephanie. Let's hear this. Let's hear this one.
Stefania Bell
Actually, like, my first word. Okay.
Field Yates
I think he was saying, compared to.
Stefania Bell
My Wesley and football, Harrison Jr. I put him as my potential breakout player for this season because I think that he. In his second year, obviously, expectations in the first year were so high and maybe unfairly so, and when they didn't come to fruition and he still had a lot of touchdowns last year, he still. He. He was okay. He just did not meet the level of expectation that was placed on him.
Daniel Dopp
Correct.
Stefania Bell
So what's changed? Well, he has a year in the NFL under his belt. He spent more time with Kyler Murray. He put on 10 additional pounds. He feels like he's stronger. He's better positioned to make physically contested catches. He feels better heading into the. All those things are good, but I also think Kyler Murray being another year removed from his ACL injury actually helps this. I think Kyler Murray is a more confident and better player. So I think a little bit of Kyler Murray helps the Marvin Harrison Jr. Outcome. Um, not a ton of competition for catches. Yeah. Just like we're talking about with some of these guys, like Ashton Genty. Open road. It's Michael Wilson, Zay Jones and Greg Dorch. And none of that really intimidates me. Trey McBride probably the other big name pass catcher on the Cardinals offense, but I'll be interested to see how they scheme things up for him. I don't think it was totally fair to him. The way the offense was was set up last year because if it wasn't a big play in the making it there wasn't really an opportunity for him.
Field Yates
Yeah I so I've made this comparison in the like I'm scared this is what it could become way previously this is not what I'm doing. I'm not drawing the Kyle Pitts comparison in the sense that like hey, maybe three years into his career we're sitting here waiting, wondering, wishing will it ever become a consistent thing. More so of the I feel like part of when you draft Kyle Pitts fourth overall, part of the equation is like you better freaking feature this guy like a guy who goes fourth overall. Like if you drafted a running back fourth overall and then you like had him split carries, we would roast you. We'd rake you over the coals. We'd be like that's the dumbest thing.
Daniel Dopp
Ever did that with Bajan, didn't we?
Field Yates
Well yes, yes, yes we did. We did. Good point. But so I think there's a part of that it's in play here for for the Cardinals and Marvin Harrison Jr. As to find you sort of closer.
Daniel Dopp
Agreed.
Field Yates
Is that like some of this is their responsibility to make sure that Marv is put in a position to succeed. Mike has and I've last time I'll quote before the season begins. 0 wide receiver screens last year for Marvin Harrison Jr. Like do you make the player more comfortable? Does that instill more confidence? Does that in turn create more success?
Stefania Bell
His ADP when I checked last night, 48.6 so to me part of this qualifier for defining the fantasy season was if he becomes that breakout player he could define it for you because he could have been a value pick for you who ends up being a top wide receiver.
Field Yates
Totally. Yeah. And if he busts then we're talking about this player is like holy crap, he was the can't miss wide receiver. And now back to back years for fantasy purposes.
Daniel Dopp
Yep.
Field Yates
He has basically missed not felt great.
Daniel Dopp
All right, well I'm going to go with a quarterback here even though you're talking about wide receivers. I'm going to go with sophomore quarterback but not the one that we've been talking about. I feel like everyone talks about not only Caleb Williams and Jaden Daniels and Drake May, but For me, it's going to be JJ McCarthy on my list as well. JJ, really?
Stefania Bell
I. You call him a sophomore quarterback and he is by the letter of the law. But really he's a rookie that can't.
Daniel Dopp
Win rookie of the year. Correct.
Stefania Bell
Can't win rookie. That. You're right. But yes, I'll allow it.
Daniel Dopp
So thank you, Stefania, I appreciate that. Thank you for that. But when you look at J.J. mcCarthy and this is, I don't want to say less about JJ McCarthy and more about Kevin O' Connor to my list, bro. That's what it is. That's like. That's how that was my avenue into this last year. Kevin o' Connell revitalized a quarterback in which the entire rest of the NFL had just left for dead. Sam Darnold was QB9 in fantasy football. He had over 300 fantasy points. And when I look at that offense, I feel like it's just as good, if not even potentially better this year because I think you'll have a better version of a tight end in TJ Hawkinson to be there as well. I know Jordan Addison is going to miss the first couple of games, but JJ McCarthy can utilize his legs. He's not going to go out there and run the way that Drake may will, but he has enough mobility in his game to be able to get out of the pocket and keep drives and plays alive. He has got an incredible supporting cast. Unfortunately for me, as a fan of the Detroit Lions and Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison and TJ Hawkinson, great pass catcher and Aaron Jones and so I look at this thinking that we've all sort of just forgotten that JJ McCarthy, a former first round pick, is coming off the board right now as quarterback 19 in drafts, he's basically free. You don't have to spend.
Stefania Bell
He is one of my favorite, like second quarterbacks. All these things where I'm taking multiple quarterbacks for whatever the type of league that it is. I love this because I feel like J.J. mcCarthy, I'm. It's like a steal. Like I think we're going to be talking about how good he is at the end of the.
Daniel Dopp
I think that if he becomes the player that I think he could be and I recognize again this will be his rookie season even though it's his sophomore year, but with Kevin o' Connell there, I'm not going to be shocked if he's a top 12 quarterback and he's going to give you some top 10 weeks throughout the season. I'm not sure that he can be there consistently but if you're going to draft a guy literally at the end of the draft because you can get him in round 14, 15, 16, and he can turn into a guy you can count on, I think that's part of why not only for what he's going to be able to do on offense, but continuing to elevate the floor and ceiling of all the pass catchers in his offense.
Field Yates
Okay. So. And there's one thing that you sort of reference at the end, but I think is worth stating as well is. And you've been the, the sort of the. The conductor of the train that Justin Jefferson is quarterback agnostic you and, and that has been the case so far until. But until we see it with JJ McCarthy, there are some people that have. I was in the league last night were two separate drafts. The topic of. Are you concerned at all about Justin Jefferson with an unproven quarterback? So. But you guys aren't. But there are some people that are. There are those reasons because when I.
Stefania Bell
Was in Minnesota, so last year I was at training camp. Yes, I was there the week before J.J. mcCarthy got hurt and. But there were two things that I took away from that that stuck with me. One was. Well, three. One was he spoke to reporters the day I was there and he blew me away. There was something so engaging about him. He knew everyone's name who was. And I mean not my. I helicopter in during training. I've been there for one day but for the local media. So he was here. He was new to the NFL. But, and, and the way he engaged and he would talk to them and look in their eyes and really go back and forth, make sure he was answering the they asked. It was incredible. And I was like that says a lot about somebody who is in the position of quarterback and leading the team. Number two, Kevin o' Connell did not declare a starter at that point in the season. So he had JJ McCarthy and Sam Darnold splitting with the ones. I think that was incredible preparation for McCarthy because just think if he'd always been in the background, not really. And then he has this injury, lateral meniscus repair. Big deal. Like that's a big injury. And then he comes back and now he has to try and prove that maybe he could do it where you don't really know if he might not have been the number one had he not been hurt. So I like that. And then the third thing is I kept hearing there that people talked about Justin Jefferson, including one of the teammates who I talked to. He is a quarterback maker he will make any quarterback look good. So it doesn't matter who's under center. And that part of what we saw with they had to fill in with some other quarterbacks there. So all of that works in JJ McCarthy's favor and also should give you more confidence about Justin Jefferson.
Field Yates
Yeah. So and but to me is a point worth making because again it's a question that I have been asked a lot in the pre draft season is are you concerned at all about Justin Jefferson with J.J. mcCarthy?
Daniel Dopp
How about the legend of Stefania Bell growing even deeper here where she buries the lead and talks about how she didn't take a team bus to training camp, but she took a helicopter into Vikings training camp.
Stefania Bell
Stefania, you want to know what happened in Vikings training camp? I was stuck with the Cleveland Browns the night before in a tornado. So I actually my flight was delayed. Delayed, delayed. But being the hustler that I am, I switched a million flights. So I got one that landed and then I got myself an Uber and went straight for practically no sleep from been in a tornado the night before at Cleveland. Look it up did happen and got to practice on time to talk to Aaron Jones, JJ McCarthy and you know, just did my job. No helicopter, no first class.
Daniel Dopp
No helicopter there. What kind of an Uber was it? An F1 Uber? Well, it was. It must have been NASCAR.
Stefania Bell
They do Uber helicopters in Europe now.
Daniel Dopp
I believe that. Of course you would know that Stefania as a part of the boondock. Yeah, I was in Montreal. Of course. Of course you were. All right. Fields your fourth?
Field Yates
No, I'm down to my last pick, so. Oh yeah. So you guys fire away because I'm sure you guys have more than one.
Daniel Dopp
I'm going to follow on really quickly then because as. As much As I said JJ McCarthy, I've been hammering on this player a lot too. And one of them for me is going to be T.J. hawkinson.
Field Yates
Okay.
Daniel Dopp
I think a tight end that is going in the middle of the round, middle of your draft, I should say that I think could go back to delivering top five value at the tight end spot. Wasn't fully healthy when he came back last year. You saw some glimpses of the guy that he used to be. But if J.J. mcCarthy is going to be the person that I think he's going to be under center again in this Kevin o' Connell at offense. If you don't get one of those topics, three tight ends in either Brock Bowers, Trey McBride or George Kittle. I'm very okay getting T.J. hawkinson in rounds six, seven, eight. Somewhere in there, depending on where he can fall for your draft, I think he's still going to give you a lot of value. And I believe this is going to be one of those situations where because of the injury and we saw him come back last year, similar to Isaiah Pacheco, he's fallen down draft boards a little bit more than he should. I think he should be closer to the top five than he is to the top top eight right now. So I would have him. Even though it's not as big of a gap. I think he's going to be a player that will define the season because that position is so thin in comparison to the other positions in fantasy.
Stefania Bell
Bias is strong there. You know, people are like, you know, and they didn't. Not only what they saw wasn't, you know, he's coming off of ACL and, and remember he tore his ACL so late that his surgery wasn't even until January. Yeah. So the fact that he came back at all, we. We weren't sure when the season began if he would. So I give him a lot of credit for coming back. But also people didn't see him that much and then when they did, he was in that first year. Working your way back. I. I agree with you. Much better.
Daniel Dopp
Love that. All right. Stefania, do you have a fourth one as well?
Stefania Bell
I do.
Daniel Dopp
All right.
Stefania Bell
And I have not. I will admit to having not nearly enough shares of this guy in my fantasy roster because I can't figure out where he's going to go. And he always gets picked up right before I want to draft him. Any guesses? Wide receiver?
Daniel Dopp
It's not Brandon Aubrey. Because you get him before.
Stefania Bell
That's right. I know I break Mike's rule all the time. I have no kicker till last round. I don't agree with it, but that's.
Daniel Dopp
A player that you get stolen and.
Stefania Bell
That you would expect that could make a season.
Daniel Dopp
Lad. McConkey.
Stefania Bell
No, it's Nico Collins.
Daniel Dopp
Oh, yeah.
Stefania Bell
Nico Collins, who I think has shown every year that he's been in the league that he takes a step forward, a step forward to step forward. And now he's being set up to be that guy. You know, before I think it's been prove it situation where people haven't really bought into the Nico Collins type. And then what they saw of him last year up until he missed five games with a hamstring injury was Nico Collins really is that guy. He's that talent. And he and CJ Stroud have this Incredible connection. The problem for Nico is Benny has missed time with some injury every single year. And then last year that happened again. Even though his 2024 numbers were down compared to 2023, he played in three fewer games, only part of another and he only had one less touchdown last year. So you know, I think there's no question about his ability, it's just what will happen. And again we've talked about the, the competition around the league. I mean again, Nico Collins, you're not worried. Last year going into was we have Tank Dell, we have Stefan Diggs. Where do we think Nico Collins will pan out now? Stefan Diggs, you know he tore his ACL early and now he's gone to another team in New England. Tank Dell, unlikely to play this year.
Daniel Dopp
They brought over Christian Kirk. Right.
Stefania Bell
Are you looking, you know, they're double Iowa states. Are you really in the running game?
Field Yates
Yes, yes. Defining this.
Stefania Bell
So yeah, so this is why I really, I mean Nico Collins has to be the guy.
Field Yates
Yes, I, this was last, we were doing this on the show last week and, and maybe it was a little bit of low hanging fruit but it was like the idea that Nico Collins could be a top three wide receiver is not lost on me at all. The target share was gigantic. Last season you mentioned the injury that obviously took away from his season long totals.
Daniel Dopp
That injury, I don't want to say the injury was epic but like correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't the hamstring injury on an 80 yard touchdown, on a 67 yard, 67 yard touchdown catch.
Stefania Bell
And he did it and then you saw this and you're like oh my gosh. So his ADP, to my point, his ADP is 15.1 which like if you think that he could be a top three wide receiver, you expect him to be going higher. But then I think well, I can get him a little bit later but I just miss him, it seems like all the time. So if you still have a draft to come. No, this is around where he's being drafted. You might have to go a little earlier depending where you sit in your snake draft.
Daniel Dopp
Give her some stats.
Field Yates
4 games to begin last season and again he gets hurt in the fifth game. So he has two catches for 78 yards and a touchdown in that game. But the first four games, six catches on eight targets for 117 yards, eight catches on 10 targets for 135 yards and a touchdown, four catches on 10 targets for 86 yards. So still a big play mixed in there. 12 catches on 15 targets for 151 yards and a touchdown. My gosh, he is. Yeah. I mean, I get. I have some good feelings here on Nico Collins, a player that I think is. And. And because of the fact that his ADP is so high, even though it's only 15.1. Again, if you're not picking.
Stefania Bell
If you're going right, if he, if he. If you choose him as your number one wide receiver and he suddenly misses half a seat season because of injury, then it's that other kind of impact on your fantasy league that we were talking about earlier. Right.
Daniel Dopp
Well, at that point, Christian Kirk or Jaden Higgins or maybe Jalen Noel becomes a value.
Field Yates
Just feels like all the factors again, the running game. I still have some question marks on. He's such an ascending player. He's 26.
Daniel Dopp
That's a polite way to say it.
Field Yates
Such a good way. This is such a good pick for a guy to just, like, take another step forward.
Daniel Dopp
If you've got question marks. I've got a big red circle with a line through it. When I think about the running backs.
Field Yates
For what it's worth, you know, preseason still, so I'm trying to give a touch of grace. How many picks do each of you have left?
Daniel Dopp
I got one left.
Field Yates
One left?
Daniel Dopp
Yep.
Field Yates
Stefania, wait. How many do you have left?
Stefania Bell
Yeah, well. What?
Daniel Dopp
She just.
Stefania Bell
I. I just was like, which. Where are we at? I don't. I don't know anymore. I can talk about a lot of people, but I have one more on my list.
Daniel Dopp
One more on your list. All right, so Field, why don't you go first?
Field Yates
Okay. So I know you guys are gonna get mad at me for going off the board a little bit here.
Daniel Dopp
Are you gonna do Brandon Aubrey?
Field Yates
Roger Goodell, My last pick. And you know, Daniel, you kind of poo pooed this player a little bit earlier.
Daniel Dopp
Oh, I'm sorry.
Field Yates
I mentioned how I wanted to go with Ben Johnson, but instead it's Caleb Williams. Right. Like, and this could be. This is a story that definitely in real life, he'll define the season. Right.
Stefania Bell
I almost picked him.
Field Yates
Yeah, he's.
Stefania Bell
He's in the mix for sure.
Daniel Dopp
All I was saying is we've talked a lot more about Caleb Williams than we had about JJ McCarthy giving you.
Field Yates
Just a hard time for fun, but we definitely, definitely have talked a lot about Caleb Williams and with good reason. The number one overall pick in the draft. There's plenty of talent here. It will not be to lack of talent. If Caleb Williams is not a fantasy factor this year. It will Be to me a lack of development because there's good pieces around him. A plus offensive coordinator with him right now, head coach and Ben Johnson and lots of good things going for Caleb Williams right now. But it's not just Caleb who of course if he hits, he could break into that, you know, top eight quarterback mold right on top of that. If he hits, it probably means good things for multiple Bears pass catchers. Right. We've been talking about the idea of DJ Moore and Roma Dunes and Colston Loveland having some upside. Well, those guys can't all concurrently hit unless Caleb Williams plays a whole lot better this year. They can't all have good seasons at the same time unless Caleb takes a big step forward. And so I think Caleb for so many reasons has so many tentacles attached to his success or lack thereof that to me he will be one of the defining players of the season. I know that our audience is largely focused or our show is largely focused on redraft leagues, but worth noting, Caleb Williams was in many formats last year the number one player off of dynasty boards or keeper league boards. So Caleb Williams has some, you know, some long term implications that we should be mindful of in this conversation too.
Daniel Dopp
Expectations are just so high with him as the former number one overall pick. Adding with what we know has been an unbelievable offensive coordinator in Detroit, now head coach in Chicago and you give him all of the options in that offense. I feel that's a great pick for many reasons.
Field Yates
Because of the fact that you suggested it wasn't.
Daniel Dopp
I didn't. That's not, in fact, that is not totally true. But you're right, there are the, the tentacles to Caleb Williams just touch so many different people that it's. He will be a definite player. Yes, it is. Yes, it's like an octopus.
Stefania Bell
Yes, they do, they do have age. I feel like, I feel like this is a good pairing that him and Ben Johnson. I feel like this, this feels good to me, like there's an opportunity for success here. What I hope for Caleb and I got to know him a bit when I was working on the piece on Tom Gormley, the physical therapist in Jacksonville with whom he trained Brock Purdy trains. And so he was working out there and I got a chance to watch him and talk to him and this was before he was drafted and I saw him again after he was drafted but before he started playing. And you know, he is a thinker. He is such a thinker and I hope for him like I want to see is I, I want to see him not have to think so much like, you just. You want that step where it's just becoming so natural. Because if you think about what he was asked to do, think about his situation at USC where he was had to be the playmaker. I mean, he had to be the guy. So he had to scramble. Do whatever you can do to make the play. And then you come to the NFL and everyone's like, okay, harness that talent now. Stick to this and this and this. And don't do all these other things that you've been told you have to do all the time. I. There is zero doubt in my mind about the talent. And he's so bright and I don't know if everyone gives him the credit that he deserves for that. He's very, very bright. And so what can happen, I'm told, when you're really bright is that you can, you know, it's paralysis by analysis.
Field Yates
Right?
Stefania Bell
And you see and you think, and you think, I don't want to make this mistake. I don't want to do this wrong. I want to make sure that I'm doing all these things I'm supposed to do. And sometimes that can restrain you a little bit. So I really want to see like that combination hit of his pure talent and the structure that I think Ben Johnson's creating for him. And I think if you hit that right point, everybody benefits, right? Everybody benefits.
Field Yates
Breakthrough potential. Not to get sad, but you were like, yeah, I don't think people give credit Caleb enough credit or don't talk enough about that. Like, let's be clear, it's 2025. All we talk about with certain people is just the, like the crap that we can dunk on.
Daniel Dopp
Right?
Field Yates
That's what happens. That's the world we live in now. People like to make fun of Kayla Williams because he loves his mom and pages fingernails. Big deal. If he plays great football this year, they will be talking about the Bears potentially becoming the wagon last.
Daniel Dopp
But don't put that into the universe, Field. Come on, compartmentalize for a moment because.
Field Yates
Like, you know, this was your Detroit Lions. A few years. It was.
Daniel Dopp
It was.
Stefania Bell
And I think, you know, and Roma Dunes was also maybe somebody who was in my mix. And I think a lot of that depends on him and Caleb.
Daniel Dopp
I think this year is going to be the first year that we finally see a Bears quarterback crack the 4,000 yard mark.
Field Yates
That would be huge.
Daniel Dopp
I think this will be it.
Field Yates
Starfanga, last pick.
Stefania Bell
Yeah, so my last pick. It's not going to surprise you at all.
Daniel Dopp
It's Brandon Aubrey. I've been saying it, I know I.
Stefania Bell
Really want to put him in there just to mess with everyone. But I'm going with the quarterback. Who do you think I'm taking?
Daniel Dopp
Rock Purdy.
Stefania Bell
Not that much of a homer.
Daniel Dopp
Dustin Herbert.
Stefania Bell
It's Jaden Daniels.
Daniel Dopp
Jaden Daniels.
Stefania Bell
Because I think, you know, we have him amongst these big four, top four, whatever you want to call it, quarterbacks. But I think most people have him at the end of that tier. And I am looking at myself and my patterns over the drafts I've been doing and I'm taking him first among those big four because I think the combination of his agility as a runner and his presence as a passer, we saw both of those last year, second most fantasy points ever as a rookie quarterback behind Cam Newton. And I think beyond that, it's the way he is so poised in the pocket, the way that he trains. I mean, this kid uses this virtual reality training that puts him, the simulator puts him in other stadiums. You know, by the time he went to some stadiums he'd never played in, he knew where the things were on the scoreboard. He knew the environment because he'd already done it in a virtual reality simulator. So he was less distracted by any of those things when he got to the stadium. A player who trains like that and thinks like that at a position that requires a lot of thinking and processing, that's impressive to me. So the combination of all those things, the fact that Terry McLaurin is there now, opposite, I mean, there now he's been there, but he's officially there with a New deal. Terry McLaurin. And now that Debo Samuel's been added to the mix, they've sort of change out their running back rotation by moving on from Brian Robinson. I think this, this team is built for him to succeed and I just, I, I think he could finish as the number one quarterback.
Daniel Dopp
I thought about having, and this is not a Jane Daniels conversation, but you mentioned Brian Robinson Jr. I thought about having Jacori Crosby Merit as one of my players just because there's been so much like pump towards like the start of the season here. But we'll see.
Field Yates
Symbol to me he'd be more like symbolic of like who is the late round running back. Who becomes a thing.
Daniel Dopp
Who becomes a thing. I'll tell you. Well, and I'm going to give mine really quickly. Mine was a guy that I think was close to a late round running back and then the fortunes changed quickly. And that's Trayvon Henderson.
Field Yates
Yep, Good call.
Daniel Dopp
Travion Henderson went from literally being like running back 30 to 35.
Stefania Bell
Has anybody vaulted more?
Daniel Dopp
No, I don't.
Field Yates
He is number one for as far as preseason ADP is concerned on espn. He abuka and the biggest other move here would be Matthew Golden.
Daniel Dopp
Yeah. Which makes a lot of sense. But there is a When you talk about season defining player, we went from having this guy as a committee running back with Ramon Ray Stevenson, even though we talked about him as, hey, eventually he's going to take over this backfield. Right. We think somewhere towards the second half of the season we'll probably see him become the lead guy there. But he's not being drafted like that. He's being drafted as a top 20 running back right now in fantasy football and I'm interested to see because he's going to define the season in one of two ways. Either he's going to deliver on all the value with where we're drafting him based on the few things that we've seen in the preseason and mind you, it's only a few things and it's still the preseason or is it going to be. You know what, the train got a little out of control on Treveon Henderson and he's not actually the RB2 that we drafted him as. He's more of like a high end RB3 or a Flex play. Exactly right. And so I think he's going to define the season because of those changes.
Field Yates
Yep, I think it's a great pick and I found that a lot of people that have been drafting Trevion Henderson, myself included, have often been getting him in a circumstance where it's not hero. It's like almost like modified hero rb. He's like the last of that passable starting running back. You don't have to squint to imagine how great it could look like you're like, no, the guy's like really talented and he should be a starting running back for at least a higher functioning offense compared to where it was last season. He's a lot of people's like, we keeps like there are times in which you can draft two RB2 to be your top two running backs, but it means you're so loaded at quarterback, wide receiver, tight end that you're going to be okay. He is like the player that I have found myself taking one running back in the first three rounds and it's like. Or four rounds and you're like, all right, fine, middle of the fifth, like I'm going to grab Henderson because if it's not him. We're talking about some very uninspired like, you know, Cowboys running back or a Jaguars running back is going to be in your Week one lineup and you're like, I don't know how great I feel about that. So good call here. Super talented player. Sometimes for our purposes and this is a very human thing, the devil we haven't yet seen can be more favorable than the devil we have seen. So maybe we are putting too much stock into what we we have not yet been proven that Henderson can't be a really good back in the regular season. Whereas I think we saw last year that like Ramandre Stevenson's best, best path to fantasy relevance is a lot of volume. Doesn't seem like he's going to get nearly as much this year. Thus we are leaning heavily into Henderson and his explosive ability.
Daniel Dopp
All right field, we got two minutes left. As a final homage to Matthew's final love hate. You want to give us a couple others receiving votes here in our group?
Field Yates
We covered a lot of them. But I do think that Drake may also on this list because we agree with that about him as one of the players that you know is a breakout quarterback candidate. Amari Hampton was on my list as well.
Daniel Dopp
Definitely.
Field Yates
Some of the same reasons we talked about with Ashton Genty is like does this player like it's gotten.
Stefania Bell
And while we're there, Najee Harris was cleared for full practice, but it's unclear whether he will play week one.
Field Yates
Okay. Yeah.
Stefania Bell
I still think it will be a lot of Omari in Hampton.
Field Yates
Yep. And Najee is saying things that suggest he will but you know, we'll have a, we'll have a practice or maybe a game update by like Wednesday of this week, which is wild. We have a Friday night football game. And then I was going to say like the Browns backfield collectively, it's just one of those where it's like we don't exactly know how it's going to look but it's if, if there is one player that emerges there that would be an example of, of, of a case where like you could have a wide range of outcomes that could define the season. And then came Ward.
Daniel Dopp
Yeah.
Stefania Bell
Yeah. Oh, and I don't think nobody's talking about him. And I think that's really interesting because like how, how does Calvin Ridley look with. And then Mecca Buko was, was like an other receiving votes for me because I just think, listen, he's going to start the season. You've got Chris Godwin who will miss at least a month I, I mean they're finally saying it out loud at least. And we don't know exactly what to expect when he comes back. And then you got. McMillan is also hurt and Igbuka just getting star reviews in. In the training camp.
Daniel Dopp
Diddy, what's his new number?
Field Yates
He's now wearing number two. Okay.
Daniel Dopp
I like single digit numbers.
Field Yates
He was going with nine, now he's two. I like it.
Daniel Dopp
I like, I like that.
Stefania Bell
Do we know what prompted the change?
Field Yates
Kyle Trask got cut.
Stefania Bell
He wanted to, but I, I think Igbuka part of the reason so valuable for you. I don't think he's coming off the field like this is not just okay until Godwin comes back. I think he's going to prove himself and make a case for why he belongs out there more. Yeah. The Emeka Abuka value for him is incredible.
Daniel Dopp
For Tennessee, the ADP bump has been because of things that have happened in that offense that have given him a clearer path to opportunities with Tampa Bay that hasn't really necessarily happened in New England. It's just we've seen that Treveon Henderson just looks like a better player, but it's not like someone got got cut or all of a sudden there's like someone that's not there that will give Travion Henderson a clearer path to opportunities. So there's a difference with the way that these two rookies are kind of being approached. Even though they've been similar with their ADPs really rising here this, this off season.
Stefania Bell
And you like Brandon Aubrey, of course.
Daniel Dopp
Stefania, of course. Feel look at you though, being extra prepped, bringing some guys here. It's like Wesley and Field is sitting here next to us right now for sure. We're gonna do a couple of really quick questions from our YouTube chat. The first one. Yes, we are. Because we love being able to answer questions from our YouTube chat. Make sure you jump in and hang out with us. First one comes from playoff pressure. Field was the kid who reminded the teacher that the class had homework.
Stefania Bell
Oh my gosh.
Daniel Dopp
Is that true, Field?
Field Yates
No.
Daniel Dopp
I could see that being a thing.
Stefania Bell
It's so true.
Daniel Dopp
Do you want to go over? Weren't we supposed to have a pop quiz today?
Stefania Bell
I, you know, didn't. Weren't you going to check our homework when we came in? I did mine.
Field Yates
Follow you.
Daniel Dopp
That's not me. Wow. Playoff pressure. I mean, I'm not even the one that said it. It was playoff pressure. All right, we got another question here from our YouTube chat. That was the question.
Field Yates
This is another Opportunity to make fun of me.
Daniel Dopp
Field tattled at the sleepovers. Of course, Roger P. Says that he did.
Stefania Bell
Field was all the mom's best friend. You know.
Daniel Dopp
Hey.
Field Yates
Hello.
Stefania Bell
And that I was talking about young children. What is wrong with you people?
Daniel Dopp
Oh, we got one last question. I think this was a better question. All right, this one comes from who PT comedy. Say what you will about fields. Yaters gonna yate is a dope shirt. Hey, it is nothing wrong with that.
Stefania Bell
It is a good shirt. It's time to bring the yeaters going to yate shirt to the pod.
Field Yates
Not a bad idea if I can find it somewhere.
Daniel Dopp
Yeah, I'm not sure that. Would you. I feel like you've gotten like like dad strong recently. Would you kind of.
Field Yates
You're trying to win back.
Daniel Dopp
That's not true. Field.
Field Yates
We'll see if it still fits.
Stefania Bell
Last year go sleepless tea.
Field Yates
You know, now he's almost a year out from surgery.
Daniel Dopp
Look at that.
Field Yates
Nine days away from being a year out.
Stefania Bell
I was going to say you remember your anniversary when you have an injury surgery like that.
Daniel Dopp
Look at that. And you're going to be ready for week one just like the rest of us hopefully are going to be ready for week one as well. Hey, that's going to do it for us today. Thank you for hanging out with us. Talking about players who will define the season tomorrow. We're diving into the hardest players to rank heading into week one. It is going to be a very fun show me Mike and field. We are going to be able to do that. So we'll have some fun with that one. Don't forget to love each other. Be kind to yourself and we'll see you guys tomorrow.
