Welcome to Fantasy Football Happy Hour with Matthew Berry.
A
Welcome to the Fantasy Football Happy Hour. Connor Rogers, Jay Croucher, the original Chubbler, Matthew Barry.
B
Yes. Hey. Thank you very much. Yeah, sorry, I had to go. So we have a group. I'm going to explain what's going on right here. We have a group text chain of everyone on the show. So every single day, our producer, Steven texts a link to promote the show on YouTube. Which we're. Now we're live on YouTube at noon every single day. Noon Eastern, which we're thrilled about. But I. Not that anyone else ever tweets it. It's always just me.
A
I just.
B
Thanks. Okay. And it just took me forever to get through all the nonsense in the text chain to try to find this link. Backup producer Pete, who hasn't even worked on the show this year.
A
We haven't seen Pete also.
B
No. It's like going through all of his crap to try to get to this link so I can post it. So, anyway, welcome to the 80s with. With Connor. He's. He's ready to take your order at to the Max.
A
Yeah, I don't even know what that is.
B
That's a Saved by the Bell reference. You've never heard of Saved by the Bell?
A
I don't. I didn't watch Saved by the Bell.
D
Connor Rogers, or Come on, Jordan Spaeth.
B
Come on.
A
All right, you're wearing another jumpsuit. Back to back days.
B
I need the YouTube commenters to like, this is. Yeah, you look like you're. You're working it back to the head, to the at, to the Max, which is the Saved by the Bell.
D
Bill and Ted's excellent adventure meets Jordan Spieth.
B
Yeah, it's a little bit.
A
The speed reference is the only one that's hitting for me, boys. I'm sorry.
B
Anyway, let's get to today.
A
Yeah, we do have a lot to get today. We're going to talk draft strategy. So fill up the YouTube comments if you're watching live. We'll answer as many questions as we can, especially with Matthew's top 50. So early draft strategy. We're going to get to quarterback tears for all of you playing Super Flex. But before we do any of that.
B
And we got news, a lot of news.
A
Actually had a pretty awesome preseason game last night that we have to recap because there's so much news pertaining to it. And we're going to talk a little bit of Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones. Don't worry, we're not missing that either. But last night's game, a lot of notable Monday night performances. I mean, we're starting with Mitchell Tinsley. Hey now, welcome. Welcome to the Show. Mitchell Tinsley. Six targets, five catches, 73 yards and two touchdowns, one of them being the catch of the preseason. All but cementing a spot. Not, you know, necessarily involved heavily in the Bengals pass game. Out of the game, Matthew, but definitely on this roster now.
B
Hashtag revenge game. He was on the command roster last year, got released. He's now with Cincinnati and obviously just has a monster game. Last night really looked great. Joe Burrow talking him up significantly, just how good a camp he's had. Now, the issue, of course, is that he's on a team behind Jamar Chase and T. Higgins. But could you see Tinsley maybe get into be the number three wide receiver like Leapfrog Yoshovic? You know, like, you could certainly see just a name to keep on your radar. Interesting. Like deep league dynasty guy as well, in case anything were to Ever happen to Chase or Higgins? Burrow plays two drives and gets the touchdown. They get bailed out on the first drive by a couple of penalties. Boy, oh boy, that offensive line makes me nervous. It was decapitated.
A
I was going to say that game made me nervous.
B
You know, fantasy life investor Joe Burrow like, no, it was wild.
A
He saw Jaden Danielson was like, okay, let's see what we can do out here. Let's not.
B
Yeah, I mean, you know, Jaden didn't throw a pass. He did lead a touchdown run there. But I think the biggest story fantasy wise other than look, you're still going to drop Joe Burrow. But just the offensive line was a concern last night. That's, that's a concern to the Bengals.
D
Firstly, tough night for Jamal Tinsley. Indiana pace as former point guard as he takes a hit down the Tinsley. Well, now he's in trouble.
B
Tinsley athlete.
D
He had all the real estate on Tinsley Island. Yeah. Now Mitchell's coming. So Peyton Manning has the all time passing yards record in a single season, 5477. I think Joe Burrow might press that record this year because that defense has no chance whatsoever. The problem is is that he might not have a chance buying that offensive line. But this team is going to be throwing so much. This is going to be the exact same thing as last year. Except this year they've got T. Higgins fully healthy and no contract issues. So it's just going to be a fantasy fiesta. Bengals games every week.
A
It also feels like it's more likely Trey Hendrickson is traded than suiting the Bengals this year, which doesn't help the matters at all. That makes it worse.
B
But for us that's great, right?
A
Throw 60 times a game.
B
60 times a game. I think you're absolutely right. It's why we have Burrow at QB5, which is really high for a pure pocket passer, which is what Burrow is. Bengals usually start slow hopefully, I think and that's one of the reasons why we usually don't see preseason. But we saw him last night. I think the only thing of note really fantasy wise in this game is Brian Robinson playing this game. All the reports prior to the game is that it looks like Brian Robinson is on the move whether he'll be traded or released. But he is likely not playing for the Commanders this week. And so then we saw Jaquori Kroskey, Merritt, Bill, who we have talked about many times on this show. We've talked about it. If you watch our draft coverage, you heard Connor Rodgers talk about in the pre draft process before he was a day three pick. He talked about how he had jcm Jakory Crosky Merritt ranked higher than RJ Harvey. A little bit of a controversial call but right now it's looking good. Connor.
A
It is. I mean listen, he's going to have a role in this backfield right away. How many seventh round picks do you say that about on contending teams? No, by the way I love our audience. Just know how much they get it. Ryan Scott minutes ago was like can't wait for the 10 minute monologue on Bill that's coming. Well here you go Ryan.
B
It's not going to be 10 minutes. We don't have time to get to. But I'll just very, very quickly hear JCM is, is rising up draft boards. I was texting with JP Finley this morning. You know who does a great job covering Washington, our friend JP and he said, he noted to me that in the pre draft process the commanders had like this topgolf outing where they invited a lot of prospects to come and like hang out and they invited Crossgate like they invited Jacori Kroski Merit. So it's not like, it's not like some he's a random seventh round pick. Like they had their eye on him from the moment go. The only other thing I'll say is that it's worth noting like again fantasy Twitter is going crazy about Jacques Crosky Merritt. Like we all love him, right? We're part of the Bill hive over here. I think we've, we planted our flag early on, very early. But Chris Rodriguez is actually good. Like I think this is a committee. I think it's going to be Rodriguez, JCM and Austin Eckler. I think it's going to be a three headed committee is my sense here. Chris Rodriguez actually played with the starters. He was on the field when Jayne Daniels was. Now JCM played with the starters last week but Daniels wasn't out there. Just situation. Yeah, Rodriguez is the veteran they really like Crosky Merritt but still don't forget about Chris Rodriguez. Like he's going to be a factor as well.
A
Yeah, obviously they just believe in the depth they have behind Brian Robinson where they can move on from him. A guy that's been banged up and they're trying to raise the ceil a.
B
Little bit and he's got one year left on his rookie deal and so it doesn't look right. Get something now as opposed to like they're probably not going to sign him an extension. You know, they like the young guys they have and it is what it is. Terrence Murphy, comedy bill to the moon. There we go. I think that's probably an avatar of him doing standup. He's a backwards hat kind of comic. All right, got it.
A
A lot of people wondering what the name is going to be. We have more on that coming for sure. The votes have come in. We've got tons of votes, so stick around for that. But let's get into the top 50 here, Matthew, and just talk draft strategy. Right. Everybody's wondering, where do I want to pick in the first round? How do I want to pick in the first round? Let's just start with the early picks here, one through four, because obviously this is where you're looking ahead and you're going, I know I'm going to take one of Jamar Chase, Saquon Barkley, Bijon Robinson, maybe Justin Jefferson. But how do you play that when you're picking 1 through 4? Thinking about, okay, I'm going to be waiting a while for this to swing back to me.
B
Yeah, I mean, obviously, look, I know first off, my ranks are for PPR leagues. One quarterback, you know, traditional leagues, One quarterback, two running backs, two or three wide receivers, a tight end of flex. Right. So we're going to talk about super flex. Later. We can talk about two QB leagues. We'll talk about guillotine leagues@guillotineleagues.com those are all different draft strategies. So what we're talking about here is the kind of like basic sort of draft strategy for, you know, typical leagues. And I feel like if I kind of like going wide receiver in the first two rounds. Right. You know, listen, you're not going to lose your league if you have Bijon Robinson or Jameer Gibbs. But I feel like the better values as it plays out, the better values at the end of round two are sort of the running backs. You're kind of in that Bucky Irving, Jonathan Taylor, Josh Jacobs, Chase Brown range right about there. So I sort of like that tier of running back than that tier of wide receiver. But the other thing is like, I'll just say in general, I always get like, hey, I've got pick three. Is it too early for Malik Neighbors or Ashton Genti or whatever? And the answer is like, no, man, go get your guys. We talked about this the other day, like Ash and Genti. If you have the third pick and you want Ash and Genti, he's not coming back around you. Your only chance to get him is There. And I don't think you're losing your league because you go with Ash and Genti. Like, there are guys I like more obviously, but like, you know, like, did I make a mistake if I, if I go for Jameer Gibbs instead of like Jefferson or Chase? No, man, like, you're not losing your league because you have Jameer Gibbs on your roster. I promise you. Like, it's just all about roster construction. I tend not to go into a draft saying I'm definitely doing running back here or wide receiver here. It sort of depends on how the draft comes to me.
A
State Farm Jake asked, how critical is it to get a running back in the first two rounds on a 12 team PPR league? Is zero running back viable in deeper formats?
B
For sure. It always is. You know, again, there's no one right way to win. Like, I've seen hero rb. I've seen rb, rb. I've seen zero rb. I've seen them all win. It just, it zero RB just means you have to hit on those late round, those mid to late round running back picks. You need to find this year's Bucky Irving. You know this, you know, and by the way, it doesn't always have to be a guy like Bucky Irving that is going to be a, you know, superstar or a Chase Brown that's going to be superstar from the middle of the season on. Again, fantasy football is a weekly game. Like your whole goal is every week to field a lineup that can beat the person you're playing. And so there are going to be people that for like three weeks are usable. Like there's a chance that week one, Ollie Gordon or Jalen Wright are usable because there's a chance that Devon Hn is out. Like, we think he's going to be ready for week one, but we don't know. Right? There's always guys like that that will be usable for two or three weeks here. Zach Charbonnet is the king of that. Like, I love Zach Charbonnet this year. I would, you know, look, Ken Walker is always banged up. There's going to be four or five weeks this year, I promise you where Zach Charbonnet is a top 10 fantasy running back. And so just you don't always have to. So my point is, is that you just have, if you go 0rb, you want to make sure that you have a lot of those guys that potentially can be a star for you or a starter for you in a given week. Because it's not just about having a guy that goes off. It's about knowing when to start that guy. Yep.
D
Zach Schobernoy by the way on DraftKings is over under for rushing yards is set around like four 490 and a half rushing yards for the season. He's going over on that. Oh yeah, he just needs Ken Walker to miss a couple of weeks which he most likely will. I think in the top four picks I found Connor that feel very good about Jamar Chase and Bijan Robinson as the top two. After that like three through 10. I just don't think there's that much gap between these guys like Saquon Jefferson dealing with the hamstring, Jameer Gibbs, McCaffrey Lamb like I think these are all variations of the same so I feel much better picking either of these. Feel okay about the top two but then prefer the end of the I.
B
Kind of, I kind of like that 78 range picking in the you know towards the middle of the second half of the draft because I agree with Jay here. There's, there's kind of a bunch of elite guys there that I don't feel like I don't think there's you know a huge difference between the guy I have ranked fifth and the guy I have ranked ninth for example.
A
And speaking of that point Jay our Guillotine league is drafting right now. Rotopat took Chase one, I took Bijan two. So you're going to even though rankings will have Saquon higher or might value Jefferson differently obviously we have Matt Matthew's rankings up and that's how it went in our draft as well.
B
By the way check out our brand new app guillotineleagues.com or in the or in the app store wherever I'm telling.
D
You good stuff and that's again all about format there. So with pick three in that draft after Connor took Bajan two I took Jameer Gibbs three because just Guillotine you're looking for floor less injury risk in a redraft league I'd probably or to stand like probably take Christian McCaffrey at 3 but much more comfortable with Jameer Gibbs in his youth and just injury risk taking him at 3 over CMC.
A
Let's get back to those middle picks 5 to 9 range which is a range you really like. Matthew if you're open to taking say Brock Bowers in the second round which tight end is always very controversial that early are you more comfortable with this range starting with a running back or wide receiver or does it depend once again how it kind of shakes out?
B
Depends on how it Shakes out. But I think I'm more comfortable with a wide receiver. I just think it is generally easier to find running backs later. You know, it is easier to find running backs in the middle and later rounds and during the season that pop that you can use for two weeks, three weeks. Because again you have to think about this. It's not about whether this guy goes off. It's again it's about knowing when to start that guy. When Ken Walker's out, you know, start Zach Charbonnet. But like you're not going to know. Like, oh, you know, this is the week that, you know, I'm trying to think of a good example here, but this is the week that Marvin Mims goes off.
A
Right, right.
B
You know what I mean? Like it's just, you know, it's easier to find. So I'd rather a wide receiver here early because I think there's at the top level, there's more consistent production week in, week out. Whereas I think I can, it's harder to find those wide receivers that consistently that pop, you know, that will pop in the middle rounds or late rounds or sleepers. But I feel better about finding running backs that you can use at least for weeks here, a couple weeks there.
D
There's also just. Wide receivers in general have a higher floor, particularly these superstars. Like there is no way the Justin Jefferson or CD Lamb or a Monroe St. Brown. These guys cannot fail without injury. They're going to get theirs. Whereas guys like, you know, I think about Bijan Robinson, his rookie season right where he comes in as you know, everyone, he's a runaway favorite for offensive rookie of the year. He's I think first round draft pick as a rookie and Tyler Algier is a massive part of the offense. So just like more weirdness happens with running backs, I find.
B
Yeah, I mean like, like I, I don't know which one it's going to be at. First it was Tank Bigsby, then it's Travis Etienne, now it's maybe back to Tank Bigsby. You know, we all love Bashel Tootin. Like I don't know who the starting running back of the Jacksonville Jaguar is going to be, but some one of those guys is going to have a lot of value this year. And it might be different guys throughout the season. Like you know, when Tutin gets up to speed. We just talked about Jakori, Krosky, Merritt and Chris Rodriguez who are, you know, shooting up draft boards as well. Like there's, I just feel like there's more guys that come in the league that are, you know, useful. Right. Than others. Like I'm sure we'll be talking about Keaton Mitchell. Right. You know, at some point this season.
A
Steelers backfield we don't have a lot of answers on right now. Like they used a decent pick on Caleb Johnson. They're kind of keeping Jalen Warren bubble wrapped right now. And then you have Kenneth Gainwell getting.
D
Work with the starters.
A
Like you might not have the answer to that until the end of September.
B
No. We've talked about the Browns backfield, we've talked about the jets backfield where there's some, you know, there's some confusion there. There might be multiple guys that, that are useful there. Again, I just, yeah, I feel, I feel better about if you're going to go Bowers at 2 or even McBride or Kittle in the third. I feel better about having a wide receiver, an elite wide receiver in the first and or second round than because I feel like I'll be able to better find a running back in the middle rounds than a wide receiver that will pop.
A
Jay let's go back to your, you know, excitement about Christian McCaffrey or at least a little bit more optimism. And you were saying in Guillotine, it's different, but redraft, I believe you would take him in this 5 to 9 range and we've had a lot of comments about that. So say you do that, which is a massive upside pick. When you're looking at the second round, are you comfortable with the wide receiver range that comes back to you because you're probably looking more of a floor wide receiver in that range after taking the risk of McCaffrey.
D
Yeah, you're potentially able to get guys like or if you're lucky, Nico Collins could fall. Brian Thomas Jr. Drake London, who I really like and think is in that tier, can get him. Drake London, I think is a great guy to potentially pair with a Christian McCaffrey because Drake London has such an incredibly high floor in terms of the targets that he's going to see in that offense with McCaffrey and taking a risk on him early. The way I'd think about it is that McCaffrey's played seven seasons in the NFL. He's been healthy for four of them. Those four seasons he was a top two running back in fantasy. Every time Christian McCaffrey is healthy, he will not fail. He will not fail this offense. He's too good. He's too central to everything they do. I the Niners have one of the easiest schedules in football because they went 6 and 11 and came last in the division last year. And McCaffrey is going to have game script and he's Christian McCaffrey. It's just, it's just the injury risk.
B
Sure.
D
And I think that by all accounts he looks healthy and camp. He's a workout menace. He's definitely taking care of his body. Yes, he's more of an injury risk than Bajan Robinson or Jameer Gibbs because they don't have the history and they're younger. But still, I think that people just, people bake in injury too much when they've just seen it as the most recent thing with the player.
B
I'm in a bunch of different industry drafts, a couple of best ball ones with, you know, other people that do what we do in terms of giving fantasy analysis for other sites. And I have wound up with McCaffrey like at pick seven or eight, like in like three or four drafts, which is sort of crazy to me. And I'm just, at least for me especially like A, best ball and B, with a bunch of other sharks, like, it's not, you know, it's, these are all tough leagues. Like, might as well go for the upside of McCaffrey. If McCaffrey's right, he's the number one player in fantasy, like period. Right. It's just, is he going to be healthy? That's the only question. And so to get somebody, you know, at 7, you know, is to me, incredible value. There's risk there, but, you know, listen, every day we live is a risk.
D
Also, he's like, he just, he just turned 29. Like he's not 33 or anything. Like, yes, he's on the other side of the aging curve for a running back, but he's not viciously old.
B
No, he isn't. And the other thing is that if there's a positive to all the time he's missed from injury, he doesn't actually. Well, no, seriously, like, he doesn't have, he doesn't, he doesn't have as many career touches and carries as other 29 year old running backs because there's basically about three seasons worth of games that he has missed since he's come into the NFL. So, you know, anyway, I'm in on McCaffrey this year. I'm in on McCaffrey. We'll see if that plays out. But I'm in on McCaffrey.
A
Let's take a look at round two and when things start to turn here because now you open up the conversation of Brock Bowers, Trey McBride and then if you're going to take a tight end that early, Matthew, you really, really have to have a plan or a comfort level with the running backs or wide receivers that come back to you in the following round because that's as early as it gets for tight end and your roster is definitely going to look a little different than everyone else's for sure.
B
I like we've talked about this before, I much prefer McBride or Kittle than Bowers. You know, at the 2, 3 turn I've seen, I've often seen McBride and Kittle go in the middle of third all the way down to the middle of third. I much prefer that than Bowers in the middle of the second just because I think there's a very good chance, there's a decent chance that McBride or Kittle are the number one tight end in fantasy. And if Bowers winds up as the number one titan in fantasy, I don't think he's significantly ahead of either of those guys, barring injury to anyone as well. But to your point, the idea of drafting a tight end that early is that you feel like you are getting an advantage at that position every single week. So what it means is that by doing that I will tell you that in leagues this size I tend not to go tight end and quarterback early. So like if I because you're not getting running backs, you're using one of those early rounds on a tight end, it means there's at least one round where you're going to be behind at either running back or wide receiver. And so you know, the Josh Allens, Lamar Jackson, Jaden Daniels, the world are going in the third round, Jalen Hurts is going in the fourth. I'm basically, if I take a tight end there, I'm generally saying like waiting on quarterback, especially in a one quarterback league, I'd rather. Because you don't want to be chasing at two positions, especially because, you know. So I think it's a little bit about roster construction in terms of your comfort level. But yes, understand that that's the choice you're making is that I want to win a tight end and I'm going to have to try to find my way through at running back and wide receiver. But there's a lot more chances for one of those guys to pop. Then there is a, you know, the tight ends of the, you know, Bowers is the big example from last year, but those guys may not, there aren't as many tight ends that pop year in, year out. We couple that we like Tyler Warren's going To have a big year now with Daniel Jones. We'll talk about that in a second. Mason Taylor, your Jets. I like Mason Taylor and a lot of volume.
A
Yeah, there's not much there.
B
He's competing with Alan Lazard and Josh Reynolds.
A
And Lazard has heard already.
B
Yeah, exactly. I'm just saying it's like after Garrett Wilson, like there ain't much else out there.
A
There's not. If they throw the ball. They're operating like a service academy right now. If anyone's been watching, it is okay.
D
I found that I just never end up with Bowers in a draft because there's so many guys in that middle to back end of the second round that I really like. Like Drake London, guys like Jonathan Taylor, Bucky Irving, Chase Brown, who I think should be. I don't think there's a huge gap between them and Derrick Henry and Genti who are going much earlier. And then also I just think with tight end like this year, you know, like Jake Ferguson's going tight end 16, like that's better than the usual tight end 16. I feel like, like Don King, K tight end 14. Tyler Warren is outside the top 10 tight ends. Like, I feel like there's a lot of depth and like Brock Bowers. Brock Bowers going to be awesome. Brock Bowers isn't going to fail. He's also got like new quarterback, new offensive coordinator like Bastion Genties in the offense. Like it's going to look different than it did last year.
B
So there's more variance than you would expect with a number one player disposition the way Bowers was for sure.
A
Getting back to another question here, guys. McGunnell said, what is Matthew Berry's exposure to Jaden Daniels?
B
Not as much as you would think. I wish. But I have found I have some shares of him. But to be honest with you, I always find, especially because this is going to sound so whatever, but the truth is that every league that I'm in, people are aware that I'm in that league. Right. I don't go into leagues like under an assumed name. So they know who I am and they know that I'm a huge homer. So there's always somebody that reaches for him just to kind of like F you, Barry, or, you know, mess with me. And I've said this, we said this on the show the other day. Honestly, I've actually got a lot more Jalen hurts this year than Jaden Daniels because as we talked about, I don't think there's a big difference between those big four guys and Allen, Jackson, Daniels always go in the third. Hertz goes in the fourth. And so I often find myself somebody gets to Daniels before it comes to me. But then I come around in the fourth and I either get hurts or I wait. I'm in a 12 team, best ball league, super flex, and Daniel's like a third overall pick. So, like I wound up with Mahomes as my quarterback in the second round. But so there you go. I mean, you see it right there. I have. I mean, I have four spots, five spots between Daniels and Hurts. So I have them all as kind of like in this 25 to 35 range.
A
Yeah. 20 player, 25, Kyron Williams. And this goes all the way down to 36 with Marvin Harrison Jr. You brought up you like the value of Kittle and Hertz, Matthew? They're back to back at 34 and 35. J. A player on this board that I think honestly nobody knows what to do with right now because he's consistently around one player. But he also can give you the value of around seven player. Tyreek Hill sitting there at 32. This kind of feels like one where he's kind of in no man's land in rankings and in drafts.
D
Yeah. Just got like no idea what to do with him. It just feels like Tyree Kill is not going to end up the 33rd player in fantasy. Whatever. He's going to be like 11th or he's going to be 70th.
B
Wide range of outcomes, don't know what to do.
D
Thing is, is like athletically last year, like, he's still hitting the same, like, max top speeds and everything. It just felt like they just weren't clicking with the offense he's dealing with. I know the thumb as well. But yeah, Tyreek, he's the type, like, if you want to take a home run swing in your draft, like, yeah, take Tyreek Hill at the end of the third round if you can get in there. I just. I just feel something is off with that team and that offense. And I. And Jalen Waddle. I think I'm higher than most on Jalen Waddle.
B
I agree with that.
D
So I just. I don't end up with Tyreek a lot of the time, but I understand it if you want to drive forward again.
B
Some of these leagues I'm talking about, like, I've. There's one league where I wound up with McCaffrey and Tyreek, like, whatever. High variance league. Screw it. I'm either finishing first or last.
D
Top two. Two of the top three picks last year, right?
B
Correct.
D
Yeah.
B
Yeah. And so I do think he has something to prove and so we'll see. I also think in the specific case of Tyreek Hill that I do think because this isn't true with most wide receivers but I do think that this year you can use your last round pick on Malik Washington and that I do think that if something were to happen to Hill injury wise now there were times there was just out there last year and he just wasn't effective. And to your point, the offense wasn't clicking and if Tua gets hurt, it doesn't matter if Tyreek's out there. They've struggled to get any quarterback that isn't named Tua. They've struggled to get the ball down the field. But I do think like Malik Washington would be pretty interesting if Tyreek Hill were to miss a game.
A
The old wide receiver handcuff.
B
Yeah.
A
For a player of that unique of a role, obviously a lot of target scheme to them as well. Terrence Murphy comedy Getting Tyreek Hill as my wide receiver too is going to feed families. Yeah, you can, you can get that value. By the way, Tribal Council blog I see your comment in there. Can the show can we show some more love and info to the two quarterback leagues? That's our next segment. Don't go anywhere. We're doing all the quarterback tiers for Super Flex League so don't go anywhere. But we're going to continue to get through the top 50 here. And let's pull up 25 through 36 one more time because this is probably the most unique part of the top 50. It's elite quarterback range. It's elite tight end range. But then Matthew, you have a couple guys scattered through those that can win you the league. Ride or die. Marion Hampton is in here. Devonte Adams. The health or lack thereof of Matthew Stafford can dictate what he can do in this league. And if we get the year we're hoping for from Marvin Harrison Jr. Who has more talent than the 36 player taken but he actually needs to translate that to the field this year for sure.
B
And so like this is a again this sort of speaks to like if you go running back heavy like just sort of looking at it like other than Kyron Williams or Omarion Hampton, like there's no other running backs as you see on this list. I don't love the range here. So one of those two guys I think is if you're in this kind of this third round area, I mostly prefer whether it's the quarterbacks, whether it's potentially the tight ends or a couple of wide receivers but it's it. This is not a great zone for running backs in my opinion. Also just like other than my guy.
D
General just a lot of this is where you get into more the uncertainty range with guys like Tyreek like two LA Rams and Kyron Williams and Devonte Adams whose fates are somewhat tied to Matthew Stafford's health and availability. So I find that this is the place to take an elite quarterback because not as enamored of the running backs.
B
Wide receiver for sure. Or like this is why I so much prefer a McBride or Kittle in this round than Bowers the round before.
A
That graphic alone is why in the first two rounds I have to have a running back. This year I just have to. And a lot of years I haven't done that. I've kicked the can down the road but you get real scary territory.
D
And also like the you know, Jonathan Taylor's going us RB8, Bucky Irving and Chase Brown are RB10 and 11. Like I think to me that's the drop off chase brown at 11 because then you get into Kyron Williams, James Cook, Kenneth Walker and his foot and.
B
Everything like I Corey Crosby Merritt.
D
Corey Crosby very quickly.
B
Travian Henderson.
D
Yes. The secondary. Chublo, Chuba Hubbard. Yeah. So yeah I want JCM and Henderson.
B
Are jokes by the way. Some people might actually take that seriously. Wow, he's got him that wrestling right now. They've risen up. Rankings are not that high. Let's not get crazy.
A
Let's close this out. Looking at 37 through 48. So listen, the talk of this kind of range here is really as you see on the board here, a lot of veterans and then some splash rookies here, notably Tetaroa McMillan on the board there at 41 there. Matthew. This is kind of a mix of high variance, Kenneth Walker's health. James Cook is under contract so you feel good about him. But then veteran floors across the board.
B
And that's towards the end of this round. Like I love all these values. Right. Camara I think is going to be another PPR merchant. DJ Moore. I think we're all sleeping on DJ Moore. If we all buy the. If we, we all buy DJ Moore's talent, if we're all buying that Caleb's taking another step this year and it's going to be a better offense. Like D.J. moore is just sort of snoozy but like he's one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, bar none. And so with improved quarterback play and improved offense Which I think is what Ben Johnson's going to bring. You've got George Pickens. We've talked about him on this show before. I think getting there with Dak Prescott, I think that's going to help his career a lot. And, you know, we haven't talked a lot about Cortland Sutton this year, but this is a guy who towards the end of last year, second half last year, really, really strong. We all like Bo Nix, we all like Sean Payton. Offense is for fantasy. And yes, they added Evan Ingram this year, but, like, they didn't really. And we expect Marvin Mims to take a step. But, like, they paid Cortland Sutton. They didn't pay him top of the market. But Cortland, I mean, like, like for a guy that was whatever a year, a year and a half ago on the trade block, like, he's done here. You know, they got rid of Jerry Jeudy and they paid Cortland Sutton to keep him brown. So I think he's going to be the focal point of that passing offense, which last year was pretty good and we think takes another step in year two of Bo Nix.
A
The thing with Sutton is he catches touchdowns reliably. He has 18 touchdowns over the last two years. So when you look at him, you go, he doesn't give me the yardage that the top guys do. Well, he makes up for it with the touchdowns that Sean Payton knows how to scheme to him as well.
D
Yeah, he's the clear wide receiver. One for Sean Payton offense that has a good quarterback behind it and has perhaps the best defense in football that should be giving the offense the ball with plenty of time.
B
To me, is there a better 50, 50 ball guy than Cortland Sutton? Maybe Mike Evans in the NFL like.
A
Him, Drake London, Mike Evans, I mean, they're right at the top.
B
Right?
A
Of course you have like Chase and Jefferson, but those are two chalky.
B
They're not 50, 50 ball winners. They're just elite wide receivers across the board. I'm just saying, like, you're starting to jump ball.
A
Go and make a miracle play, Cortland. So we talk about this on the show. There's like three times a year where Cortland Sutton has the catch of the week.
B
Yeah, it's unbelievable.
D
Yeah, no, he's very un.
B
But my point is just in that range, like, I just think there's some guys that probably aren't. Pickens is probably a little buzzy, but for the most part, those guys, like, no one's going to be like, when you're in your draft, no one's going to be like, ah, you know, ooh, DJ Moore, you know, like, they'll do that when you drive draft a mecca Buka. Like, you know what I mean? Like, oh yeah, you know, or Maureen Hamilton, Travis Hunter. Travis Hunter. Like, these buzzy guys. Like, no one's going to get like, oh, yeah, Cortland Sutton, good pick. Or DJ Moore, Camara. Like, they're snoozy guys and yet they're going to outproduce their adp.
D
Yeah. In this range, my running back version of Tyree Kill is Ken Walker, where same huge range of outcomes. And I, I think I just want, I want shares of this Clint Kubiak running scheme where, like the yards before contact in preseason looks excellent. We forget, but they look like the greatest show on turf for the first two weeks last year before they lost their entire offensive line. And then Derek Carr went down in New Orleans in that Kubiak scheme. So, like, there are worlds where Kenneth Walker could be a top five running back this season. And also if you get Ken Walk, then just be okay reaching a little bit for Shaw.
A
But you're drafting a backfield.
B
Yeah, that's a damn good one. But this is the point that I made in my 100 facts last year that if you, you know, Charbonnet and Walker basically were a top six running back in Fantasville last year and Ken Walker's going around running back 15 and Charbonnet is going in the 30s. And so in essence, to get a top five ish running back for those who, I guess you have to use those two spots. But the brilliance of Walker and Charbonnet is that as we've talked about, you know when to start them. Like with the Chiefs, I don't like, like, we think Pacheco's the starter, but like, you're going to week two and all of a sudden, like, you know, right. Kareem Hunt's going to fall into the end zone twice. Rashard Smith, like, it's like you're not going to know when in a lot of cases with these kind of muddled backfields, you're not going to know when to start, which guy. In the case of Seattle, you always know which week to start. I feel better about Kamara in a PPR league. Chandler Garvey asks Ken Walker Kamara as RB1.
D
I think Kamara has higher median outcome. Ken Walker's got the highest ceiling. Ken Walker, I think has a better chance to be a top four running back this year than Alvin Kamara. But he's also got a much bigger chance to be, you know, outside the top 25.
B
But I think this is a great question, right? Because again, like, so you saw my ranks, right? I have Ken Walker ranked a little bit higher than Camara. But. But that's assuming at that point because it's like running back 15 and 16, whatever it is, that's assuming that you already have a RB one. If you're telling me which one of these guys has an RB one, that I'm going, that is my, my quote unquote best starting running back. I feel better about Camara because I feel like there's a safer floor there. To your point, Ken Walker is either going to be a top five running back or miss half the season. Like, he's just, he's just one of those guys. And so I'd feel better about just those two guys. I think I feel better about camara as my RB1. They're obviously very close, but if you tell me I'm definitely getting Charbonnet Chandler, then I'm good with the Seattle Backfield as my RB1. I think that's a home run. Just whether you feel you're able to get him and reach a round or two to make sure you acquire Charbonnet.

And don't forget forget you can still catch us on Peacock and the NBC Sports now channel at 5 Eastern. And do not forget we are here for the people. We are here to give you more love for the two Quarterback Leagues Super Flex Tom Matthew for those that have never played super flex, quite simply, it's not just a two quarterback league just means you have the option to start a second quarterback.
B
Yeah, that's correct. So super flex is different than two quarterbacks leagues. And this you know very sense is that you don't always have to start a second quarterback. You know, ideally you obviously do. But in a two quarterback league generally speaking you have less flexibility like you two wide receivers, two running backs, maybe a third wide receiver, tight end and two quarterbacks. And maybe there's also a flex. But in a super flex usually you have more flex spots. You know you might have three or four flex spots and then one of which is a super flex spot which allows you to start running back, wide receiver, tight end and or a quarterback. And so that's what you want. In an ideal world in a super flex you're starting two quarterbacks but it does give you the flexibility in case you manage to draft two quarterbacks that have the same bye week or one of your guys gets injured, what have you. So that's sort of the idea there. It is my favorite way to play the league of Assholes, the league that we are all in. It is a super flex league here as well I'm the two time defending champion of it. No big deal. Just saying neither of these guys have a title in that particular league.
A
It's a terrible league. It's really just an abomination.
D
I'm almost not a fan of Superflex.
A
No, it's terrible. You have people like clamoring to the waiver wire for Tommy DeVito and Easton Stick to save the season.
B
How much did you once bid for Easton Stick?
A
Probably a good amount of money. I traded Cooper cup last year for Baker Mayfield, which worked, but at the time it seemed totally insane.
B
Yeah, so it did anyway. But it also obviously gets rid of defenses and kickers, which all leads should be. That's very good.
A
Yes, enough is enough. Super flex quarterbacks, tier one. You heard some of us, you heard some of these elite names during the top 50 in last segment. Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Jaden Daniels, Jalen Hurts and Joe Burrow. Also in this tier here, Matthew. And we kind of kick things off with a question from Herberto Ventura, Gibbs or Hertz at 108 in a super flex PPR half bonus for running backs.
B
Give me Hurts.
A
Yeah, I was gonna say, I feel like you still lean with a tier one quarterback.
B
It's a great question. And listen, you're not screwing it up either way because I think again, a half point bonus for running backs is significant with. So I get the question, but I think I'd still rather the quarterbacks. Yeah, again, you're starting to and at some point you run out. But I will say, as we just showed with that tier, once you get past that tier, then I'm waiting a little bit. Yeah, yeah.
A
To our tier two, which we'll get to in just a second.
B
Other thing that's important here, Jay, is that it's important to sort of get a sense of how the rest of the league values quarterbacks in a super flex league. Because I remember one time I'm in a league, I was in a league, it was a long story, but I'm in. I'm in a league for business. Right. There was like somebody asked me to play in this league kind of a, as a, you know, hey, playing a league with Matthew, blah, blah. So it's a super flex league. And so I'm. And I know like I got the number one pick and I picked Josh Allen and I came back around, I picked like, I think and I was like, how is Jalen Hurt still here? Like only two or three people, like. And so I picked both those guys. But what ended up happening is that no One else either realized it was a super flex league or they just, they were more inexperienced players. And so people ended up getting like, you know, Mahomes and Burrow, like in the fifth or sixth round. And you're like, well, listen, I just played a premium for my quarterbacks, but that doesn't do me any good because now everyone else in the league is getting quarterbacks really cheaply because the rest of the league just didn't understand, you know, sort of of game theory.
D
I think normally though, it goes the other way when.
B
If people do anymore, I did it.
A
Once and done for sure.
D
If people know they're playing in a super flex league and it's like their first time playing it, they usually overreach for quarterbacks.
A
Right.
D
Oh, there's a new thing with two.
A
Second round every time.
D
Yeah. So often the inefficiency is like, yeah, I'll take Bajan Robinson over Baker Mayfield. Like, yeah.
B
Like I said, after you get past that, that tier one of quarterbacks, then I'm into the Bichons and CD Lambs of the world. Yeah, for sure.
A
Let's take a look at tier two. This is more rounds two and three. Maybe you wait on a quarterback, maybe you do decide to double up like Matthew did in his business league. Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, Bo Nix, Justin Fields and Kyler Murray fall into this bucket.
B
Yeah, for sure. By the way, one of the. I'm in a super flex league right now, a slow draft that I talked about with a bunch of experts, and it's like I'm picked seven or eight in that league. And by the time it got to me, everyone was gone. Every one of the tier one guys were gone. So I, I picked Jameer Gibbs and then on my back and in the second round I picked Mahomes. So I do think you want a quarterback, especially if it's one of those top two tiers. I do think you want a quarterback, at least in the first two rounds and a super flex, assuming other guys are being drafted. Yep. Agreed. If the league is. Yeah. Valuing quarterbacks in a way. Yeah.
A
Tier three, these are guys you're probably looking at or hopefully looking at as your second quarterback to fill that super flex spot. Brock Purdy, Dak Prescott, Jared Goff, Caleb Williams, Drake May, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Herbert, C.J. stroud, Jordan Love, J.J. mcCarthy. Rounds four to six. I mean, Matthew, this clearly is just a lot of guys that are unknowns in fantasy right now or guys that do not have the ceiling of anyone in front of them, like Goth for Instance?
B
Yeah, yeah, for sure. I mean like, like I think, I think Drake May and Trevor Lawrence, Caleb Williams, like there's a lot of guys with some upside here, but there's obviously question marks. I know Jay, you're really high on Jordan Loves this year. Can CJ Stroud bounce back JJ McCarthy like he made a start of Sam Darnold. Why can't he do it out of a top 10 pick in JJ McCarthy if he's healthy? I. One of the other thing, I'll just say here about super Flex leagues in general, but I wouldn't mind any one of those Tier three as my number two quarterback. I wouldn't want to go into super flex leagues with one of those guys as my QB one. I'd want one of the first two tiers and then my number two quarterback from there. But what I will say is that the larger your lineup is, you know, like I've been in some leagues where it's like 12, you know, it's like you start 13 players, you start 12 players a week. So the more spots you're having, the more flex spots there are, obviously the less value there is on quarterbacks as opposed to if you're starting 9 or 10 versus 12 or 13.
A
Michael Macias I've never done a Super Flex but I think my strategy would be to load up on skill players then get JJ McCarthy and Geno towards the end. So this always seems like a good idea the first time because I've done this the first time I played Super Flex. You are chasing so many points though because one of those two probably won't hit the way you think and then you're playing against people that are just. There's such a point gap that this is very, very risky.
D
Yeah. I will say in general, I find that people doing Super Flex leads for the first time, they tend to be very nervous until they have the first two quarterback slots filled and they'll often reach for the second guy and that then you get more value on these guys who are potentially, you know, at the end of the tier three, like your CJ Strouds and your Jordan Loves. And then all of a sudden they just sit there forever because everyone has two quarterbacks filled pretty quickly.
B
That's right.
A
Let's look at.
B
Go ahead.
A
No, you go tier 4, this is round 7 to 10 range.
B
This is where I was headed. Yeah, yeah.
A
Tier 4 is led by Michael Pennix who I think has the most upside on this list by far because I think he's just a three point shooter that I'll throw bombs to Drake London and Darnell Mooney. Bryce Young, Geno Smith, as mentioned, tua. Really more health concerns with TUA than talent. Cam Ward, Matthew Stafford. More health concerns for Matthew Stafford. Sam Darnold in a new place in Seattle. Aaron Rodgers. And then, yes, we'll get to the starting quarterback of the Colts, Daniel Jones.
B
Yeah, for sure. Bryce Young ended the year strong as well. They've added some weapons and Tua. Tua is actually like has top 10 quarterback potential. It's just the health is always a concern. But this is your third quarterback. I'm not reaching for a third quarterback in a super flex, but I do generally like to have three quarterbacks if I can. And ideally, it's somebody like Bryce Young or TUA that you know basically that they're going to be the starter. Right. As opposed to somebody like Joe Flacco. Now, Joe Flacco is great for, like, he's probably going to be the starter for the first six weeks. We'll talk about Flacco here in a second. But generally speaking, I tend to like somebody that, hey, we know is going to be quarterback. If it's a quarterback with question marks. Depending on how the draft is going, I may say, you know what, screw it, I'm going to go in with two quarterbacks because there's so much turnover at the position. What was it last year, like 56 different players started at quarterback? Something like that every year. There's always injuries. There's always guys. You know, Taylor Heinecke's always good for a start or two every year. And so I wouldn't reach for my third quarterback if there's a guy that's solid you can grab. But otherwise, just, you know what? If I need another quarterback, I'll hopefully be able to grab one on the waiver wire.
A
All right, guys, let's talk about what the Colts announced today. Daniel Jones is going to be the starter. Head coach Shane Steichen was very adamant that this is. He's not going to have a short leash. They plan on him being the starter for the season. They're confident in him. This just kind of feels like the end of Anthony Richardson with the Colts. He'll obviously get chances elsewhere, but I mean, the fact that you don't start with Richardson and move to Jones speaks volumes.
B
Matthew, for sure. I mean, he just may not be showing anything in practice. Like I said this before, when they signed Daniel Jones, what a dumb move. I thought it was because I felt like you spent the fifth overall pick on Anthony Richardson, you need to start him no matter what, let him have a full year. And at the end of the year it's either he's the guy great or you're like he's not. And then you've got a low pick and maybe you're in line for one of the great quarterbacks that's coming out next year. Daniel Jones just gets you to, you know, eight wins. Like he's fine. It's a weak division and so maybe Daniel Jones has led a team to a playoff, a road playoff victory before. I think he's a competent quarterback. I don't think he's great or he has signs of competency. I should say fantasy wise, semi interesting. This is a guy who uses his legs, averages over 30 rushing yards a game for his career and there are some nice pass catching weapons here. Given I don't think Daniel Jones ever was a big deep ball thrower but he feels like, you know, he's certainly not these days.
D
Tough day for Alec Pierce.
B
Just running cardio AD Mitchell. But I think, I think the big winners here are Josh Downs and Tyler Warren.
A
That's absolutely right.
B
Yeah. Short yard kings, Michael Pittman. Somewhat. Yeah.
A
Yeah. It just feels like Downs and Warren are going to be peppered with endless targets.
B
Endless targets. Yeah.
D
And probably I say a higher floor across the board for the Colts now. Like, you know, Jonathan Taylor, you probably feel a little bit better about Jonathan Taylor's not just the offense won't be a mess. I think that.
B
And also by the way, he's not. Jones is a, is a, is a threat at the goal line. But he's not Anthony Richardson.
A
That's right.
B
You know what I mean? Like they'll have done some bootlegs with him but like yeah, I think Taylor gets three to five less touchdowns Vulture this year if Jones keeps the job all year.
A
Coleco in the comments said Daniel Jones makes Jonathan Taylor better.
B
I agree.
D
Yeah, fantasy. I'd say just across the board. Like there's less upside now. Like the real upside for Jonathan Taylor is Anthony Richardson is dragging a man out of the box and you're getting the, you know, there's obviously not Lamar Jackson, but the same like the benefit that Derrick Henry gets or that Saquon Barley gets with Hertz. That was the huge upside scenario for Taylor. Doesn't get that. But he gets a higher floor.
B
I think he's not a, he's not a viable fantasy option. Jones in a. And other than like in the craziest, deepest of leagues. But he does raise the fantasy Value of everyone else around him. For our purposes, I'm actually happy that Jones is the starter.
A
Matthew, you mentioned Joe Flacco will start for the Browns.
B
Joe Flacco is his actual name.
A
Yes. Oh, that's right. Comeback player of the year.
B
Comeback player Joe Flacco. But perhaps eligible once again. He was on the bench last year, Jay, what if he leads the Browns to the playoffs this year?
D
It was such a disgrace, the outcome of that award. They literally changed the rules to prevent a guy like this from winning again. So we can't win. Sorry, Joe. You got your award in 2023 and now we somehow the starting quarterback of the Browns again. Look, I think that he's probably the best option in terms of just providing week one competence. Good news for David and Joku. We had a rapport with. Yeah, good news for Jerry. Judy. We'll see how long it lasts.
B
Cedric Tillman.
A
Club set is open again.
B
Club set is open again. He. He is. He is the closest thing to, like, you know, peak Brett Favre, right. In terms of. In terms of just that gunslinger effort, somebody's down there mentality like he. Him. He is, you know, he. You know, this is a guy that averaged over 40 pass attempts per game during the five games that he was starting for the Browns a couple years ago. When he did win comeback player of the year, over 320 yards, had at least 16 fantasy points in every single week. Was part of that, part of my team that won the title that year, if you remember the first. My first title, not the second title, but the first title, as I did.
D
Try to explain to voters at the time, he was basically playing defenses that had the three of us out there. The New York jets, their performance that Thursday.
A
Oh, it's a disgrace, which I will.
D
Never forgive them for. Cost me a lot of money. They just need to show up and play as normal source gardens. Just watching guys run past him.
A
It's not a great night.
D
It's not a good night for Jay.
B
But. But anyway, Joe, similar to Daniel Jones, Joe Flacco raises the fantasy value of all the Browns as long as he keeps the job.
A
Matthew, you mentioned with Super Flex, it's so important to let your league dictate value on selections. How can the Fantasy Life ADP tool help you with that?
B
Well, thank you for asking me that question. Listen, fantasy life plus is. Just go to FantasyLife.com, you'll see the ADP tool is fantastic. Like all of our tools, by the way, we have completely customized rankings. Whatever your scoring system is you can sync your league and get customized specific advice to all of your scoring rules. In terms of our projections, you play with first downs, you play with two quarterbacks, you get points for rush, you know, more rushing, whatever it is are you know your league is unique. Your advice should be as well. But in terms of specific to quarterback leagues, what you can do is drafting is often dictated by adp. That is in the that is in the the draft room. So if you play on espn, that might be different than if you play on sleeper or Yahoo or my fantasy league or wherever you wind up playing. And so figuring out where your league once you put your settings in, figuring out oh, here's where these quarterbacks are going in this round in this super flex league, I think is very helpful. We have a tool called the draft champion that allows you to mock draft against and you can try a different strategy. What happens when I draft Brock Bowers in the second round? What happens when I go wide receiver? Wide receiver? And you can set it up so that you're like, hey, I know Connor is like a big guy on rookies. So I can set it up so that oh, the guy picking after me drafts a lot of rookies and you can sort of test a lot of theories. It is an unbelievable tool. Not sure if draft champion.

Receiving touchdowns odds board going into the 2025 season. Jay, anything interesting for you on this board?
D
Yeah, I'm going to take Nico Collins at 15 1. He had seven in basically 11 and a half games last year. I think that this offense will throw more than it did last year under Bobby Slowik.
A
I got a similar idea as you. I'm going Drake London plus 2000. He's going to get peppered with targets. A lot of them could be in the red zone. From Michael Penix. We talked about it. Him, Mike Evans, Courtland Sutton, some of the best jump ball winners in the NFL.
B
Well Mike Evans is where I'm going. He's 10 to 1 right now. Since Baker Mayfield become the starting quarterback of the Tampa Buccaneers, no one has more end zone targets than Big Mike Evans. Godwin is banged up. Abouka is a rookie. Jalen McMillan actually shows up banged up as well. So give me some Mike Evans. David Maggie's before we get out of.

Here, let's take a Look at the poll one more time.

This episode was packed with up-to-the-minute advice, candid draft room humor, and actionable takeaways. Berry, Connor, and Jay blend serious football analytics with self-deprecating wit, rapid-fire banter, and offbeat metaphors (“the original Chubbler,” “wide receiver handcuff”). The overall message is clear: go into your draft with a flexible plan, know your league context, and don’t be afraid to swing for upside—but understand where the positional cliffs are, especially at running back in 2025.
