Hello and welcome to another video and podcast from Fantasy Football Scout. My name is Joe and today I'm joined by Mark AKA the FPL General revealing his latest FPL draft and chatting about the latest pre season developments that are influencing his thoughts.
Mark (FPL General)
Foreign.
Joe
Today we're going to be chatting to the FPL General AKA Mark about his latest draft which has changed a fair bit since last time we spoke. Last week we he was talking about a bench boost one and he's put that into motion this week so we'll have a look at that team. We'll road test it through the Fantasy Football Scouts Rate my team model. We'll also look at some mid price mids because they're under consideration for him. They may change and 4.5 to 5 million defenders. I did a video last week on 4 million and 4.5 defenders, so real dirt cheap ones. So do have a look at that because a lot of the names are similar here. This one's a bit more expanded. We're forgetting the 4 million ones. We're interested in 4.5 and 5 million defenders having a look at those. Anyway, Mark, how are you?
Mark (FPL General)
I'm very well, Joe. Enjoyed the, the last weekend without football really because we will have community shield coming up. So at least we get our, get our teeth into that one this upcoming weekend and then it's going to be all go the final week of preseason when a very settled draft for a couple of weeks gets ripped up and, and you, you basically start again. You get fomo, you get new ideas, you get injury scares, you get late returner scares and yeah, I always feel like I'm very calm at this point of the season and then in the final week I start to get a bit jittery and you know, you start question everything you've been doing for about three or four weeks. So yeah, looking forward to next week in particular.
Joe
Yeah, I mean I like this time because it's all full of hope and you can plan and you can put those plans together and you come up with a great team and then something in pre season, a friendly or change that and you think, oh, hang on a minute, can I afford that good player that's just scored a hat trick? That kind of thing. It's quite good. And oh, and that's especially good because when the actual season starts, all of that goes to pot and it's absolutely awful and all the players you got in did badly and so on and so forth. So it's nice to have hope rather than the reality of fpl.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah, pre season is the. It's the best time. It's the best time. I'm, I'm as excited as I've ever been for a season. But we all know that FPL has a, a way of taking that away from you very quickly. So yeah, the impending pain in game week one. Looking forward to that as well.
Joe
Okay, so what we're going to do is, as I said, we're going to have a look at his new draft. Before we do that. All of the tables are created here. It's all from the members area here. A lot of the information we get there. You should get exclusive articles as well. Loads of tools and gadgets as well. And there's the Rate My team tool. As I said, we're going to be running Mark's team through that as well. It's got a nice function there where you can just simply upload an image of your own team and it'll tell you how the the algorithm gods think that you're going to do. Whether we do that, we know the matter. But yeah, life would be much better if. Would it be life be much better if we all did what the robot said? No, it wouldn't be. That would be apocalyptic. But it would be nice if some of our picks and predictions were correct, though. That's true. Okay, let's have a look at this draft then.
Commercial Announcer
Yeah.
Mark (FPL General)
So you want me just run through it?
Joe
Yeah, yeah.
Mark (FPL General)
So we spoke a lot last week about. We kind of bounced the idea of Bench Boost one versus Bench Boost two. And I wasn't on a bench boost draft last week, but now I very much am and I've kind of firmed up my. My thought process that I prefer Bench Boost one versus Bench Boost two. I think you might be with me on that now as well. So audio Listeners, there's 0.0 million in the bank with this draft. I've gone for Kinski and Verbruggen to 4point million goalkeepers. The back five picks are Shaw, Williams, Mosquera, Kogu and Isadiop. The midfield five, Bruno Fernandez, Dominic, Saosai, Gibbs White in Jai, which is definitely a spot, is up for grabs and I've got Pascal Gross on the bench up front. Erling Haaland, Jerry, Pedro Calvert, Le, which I feel like is going to be a very popular front three and for pretty good reason, although Isak is putting his hand up now just to kind of shake things up a wee bit. So that's the 15 I've gone with. So it's very much, you know, Brighton, triple Brighton with a bench boost in mind, you know, at home to Aston Villa. Yeah, I'm pretty. Like I said, I've been deliberately not tinkering much this preseason. So this is, I think draft number three trying to do just kind of one one a week, just not to overdo it.
Medical Advertiser
Okay.
Joe
So I mean the main thing is sort of strategy. The decision to bench boost one, I can comment on that as well because listening to you last week, considering it made me consider it as well. I was on a bench boost two policy but it relies, that relies on Coventry doing well. So they're Hull, Hull can easily score against them if they don't. If Coventry can get three clean sheets and you've got three Coventry City defenders, brilliant. Happy days. So what an amazing bench boost that is. You can dine out on that for, for years to come, but I don't know, I don't know if I can rely on them. Whereas with bench boost one, you're sort of relying on just maybe one of those players. So you've got Diop there, I've got a Shea and mine. You, you just got that sort of one IP switch spot there and you can live with that, but it's not loading up on Coventry attack. I'm starting to see some Coventry strikers midfielders coming in as well. Like something I'd considered and I just, it just didn't sit right with me. Whereas this team here, your enablers, Brighton players, Brian are good. You haven't got any Sunderland players. I've got a Sunderland player. We might recommend one in the defenders as well. So we've got, you know, these are teams that established in the Premier League well for at least a season or so. They're actually in Europe. They, they're good. I much prefer relying on them and that's what Ben Boost1 offers me. And the only other option I think is just not to bench boost, to just let it, let it lie for later in the season and just try and stock up with as many as you can and don't worry about the bench. But I just at the moment like that. So I don't know, I, I, I don't know whether you, you possibly echo those thoughts as well.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah. And what, what I like about what I'm seeing on social media and stuff like that and forums going into the season, you've got a good chunk I think will bench boost one, a good chunk will bench boost two and then plenty of people will not bench boost at all. You know, a lot of people will, wild lot of people will just be patient, you know, let the first maybe five weeks play out until the international break and then maybe wildcard with more information. So that, that, that's a good sign that there's going to be different paths already from, from the start because we know how, how stale FPL can get sometimes if, if everyone does the same thing. So yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm firmly on, I'm firmly on bench boost scheme 8 1. I've never done it before and it's, it's, it's the first time I've really considered it strongly and you know, really tried to put a team together with, with you know, safe picks that I, you know, I'm confident that I can get 15 players on the pitch. You know, that's why I like Carioglu, Gross etc over Phil Foden's or you know, players coming back late from the World cup etc. So yeah, I think it's doable and I, I actually don't really care too much whether it does well or it doesn't because I'll just be happy that it's gone then and give me two. I can just roll a transfer when other people might be thinking about, you know, shoring up a bench boost transfer for example and I can just focus on the 11 then for the next, you know, 18 game weeks or whatever it is.
Joe
Yeah, yeah. A lot of people can get caught up in the bubbles of social media. I saw a post Blue Sky, I think it was this week, someone was saying they didn't want to bench boost, they wanted to do something different and not bench boost and save it. And I was thinking, I think you'll find the bench boosters are the ones doing something different because you can get caught up in that bubble. But there's what, 10, 11, 12, 13 million people doing it. As you said, the vast majority of them are not going to be bench boosting game week one or gameweek two. It may look like that on Twitter and there's certain players as well, it looks like, you know, aren't popular. So Semenya has been looking good in pre season under, under Man City, under the new management. They're not seeing him in many engage managers teams on social media but he's in, he's in like getting on for a third of teams like 27 or something, 22 maybe, maybe of getting on for a quarter of teams. So he's getting attention then people are looking at the table and just going semenya did well, I'll get him in. Isaac, you already mentioned there not seeing him any teams because engagement is like, like you and me. I look at that front line, I go, harland hat tricks. August, September are his best months. Pedro, he's at least a million too cheap and he's been tearing out five goals in preseason. Calvin, he's too cheap as well. Six million. You can't argue with all of those. And then you look at Isaac 9 million maybe, maybe he'll match Pedro for example rather than Pedro matching him. So it's hard to get away from that front line. So I think the differences amongst engaged managers will be some of those defensive slots, the strategy, bench boost, one, two or not at all whenever they wild card but and the midfielders as well. So that's what we're going to look at some midfielders and defenders as well because that's probably where a lot of the differences will be.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah, just to touch on that as well. You know, engaged managers, hardcore managers versus the more casuals who come in late and you know, set up their team on Friday week. A lot of them are just going to pick Gabriel at 8 million. They won't care about the price tag. And you know, I don't think I've seen Gabriel in a single team on my timeline recently and he's probably going to be our biggest threat every, every week because we know what he can do. Those 15 pointers can pop off at any time and, and maybe he will just have another great season and you know, 8 million might be fine for him. So it's going to be interesting to see how that plays out on Isac as well.
Joe
It's.
Mark (FPL General)
I'm tempted like everyone else to get Esac because we know how good he is. I think the thing that makes it a wee bit easier with, with avoiding him to begin with is the midfield options. You've got suboslay Florian Verts. You know, I'm very, very tempted by Wirts, maybe even over Sabosley and I'm sure we're going to talk about him soon.
Joe
Well Verts, he's in my team. That was one of the changes I made yesterday. I thought verts 0.5 more than suppose line I could pay that and then I found a little bit of money from Maguire down to Shaw.
Mark (FPL General)
There you go.
Joe
So there we go. Done. So yeah, you might be doing a bit of tinkering after that chat. Let's have a look at the rate my team tool as well. I'm just going to read this out. I always say it because I listen to lots of podcast and often forget what the draft was. I'll just read it out again for their benefit of them. It's Kinski in goal for Brooklyn on the bench. Goalkeepers, defenders starting Shaw, Williams and Mosqueraglu and Diop are on the bench in in a four man midfield. Fernandez, Saboslai, Gibbs, White and die. And you've Got Pascal Gross on the bench. The bench is bench boosting. So all of them are playing and then Harlan Jalpedro Cavalier up front. Let's have a look at that in game week one. So I've bench. I put press the bench boost button. It's got 66 points so that's if we could top that up about 5 7. So it's roughly around 11 points with those relying on those Brighton players and DIOP expected.66 so it would have been about 55 which is really strong rating is 88 in most it's iterations I do of a game week one bench boost it's somewhere around 88 to 91 or 2% and it's usually around 66 to somewhere around 71 points there. And part of the reason is is there are certain players we're not going to mention here because because we're looking at midfielders of particular price range. But Sangari started for Brentford. I understand he achieved the 12 DEFCON as was predicted he would when he came into Brentford. He did that within 60 minutes. So he's 5.5. When I put him in rate my team it's got a fat zero because he's so new to it the the algorithm will he start, won't he? We're pretty much certain he's going to start and we pretty much certain he's going to get DEFCON most matches as well. So I think he's a good one there. So you've got changes like that with the algorithms. But anyway this says this is a good score and this is good ranking here. So if we move that over to game week two so bench boost gone out the way. Forget about that. You're on 52 points expected points. That's with Bruno Fernandez as captain. The and and the big changes are you can move your Brighton players well your Brian players just stay on the bench there. But Brighton and Manchester United do rotate pretty well by the way. And you already stocked up on say for example Shaw, Bruno Fernandez. I've got Brian Bowman my side as well so I've got a, a triple up there and so it's quite nice to have that Brighton Manchester United rotation. So game week two looking good as well. Game week three bear in mind no no transfers have been made. Game week three. Well you can move the Brighton players in. They're at home to Leeds Carioglu Gross. They come into the side. It says Moscara.
Mark (FPL General)
But.
Joe
But you could arguably put Shaw on the bench as well if you wanted to and die is on the bench for this one and the op is on the bench as you would imagine he would be to 4 million player there I haven't done it for every single week there Game week four your team, my team or most other bench boost one teams come a cropper slightly and I think transfers are going to be needed A lot of the the the narrative is don't use transfers stop saw them up I I there the transfers use them basically have a great game against Hull game week four Meanwhile you've got other teams you know with lots of your players in who are sort of facing each other not so good ones so I mean just looking at game week 4 Manchester United against Man City and look and then Chelsea have got that whole game as well so yeah Arsenal away to Sunderland which is okay it's not great but nevertheless it's Chelsea great. Manchester United Manchester City not so great so game before and I I for my personal team I'll shut up in a minute by the way my personal team I just immediately did some switches to some Chelsea players Manchester United players out for Chelsea players easily done but anyway yeah so does it make you feel confident knowing that the computer thinks that you're on the on the right path?
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah I like I like what I'm seeing here thing I like most about this rate my team too is seeing the teams in future gimmicks as well because it's it's not something we can do on the FPL website itself so again that's enough reason to get yourself on scout for preseason the some of the thumb of the things that that came up there. For example I Pascal Gross I'm pretty sure I'm going to start with and one of the reasons in Jai went in along kind of alongside him is because they rotate quite well in fixtures so it's I think it's game week four game week five when Gross has good fixtures inject doesn't have great fixtures so that could even be if I find 0.5 we could go you know Dewsbury hall there for example and again I'm just, I'm pretty I'm pretty I know the fixture for Brighton at home develops maybe not the perfect game for for a bench boost but again it's just the fact of just getting it out of the way early and just whatever will be will be. You mentioned Gaming 4 there as well and straight away when you're talking I'm thinking maybe that's a wild card week you know maybe if we feel like we have enough information or We've got too many wrong picks because we don't know what we don't know going into a season. If we get to, you know, between game week three and give me four and you feel like there's five or six that you have to get to asap, then you play into the fixtures with Chelsea for example, and you, you maybe just do your overhaul then at that point. So this is a good, this gives you a good picture of what, you know, what might happen in a couple of weeks time. And yeah, I'm pretty happy with a lot of these picks.
Joe
Yeah, big. A big change this season compared to others is the fixture runs. There's not, there's not a lot of good fixture runs. You get like maybe a couple of good games for a team and then got a bad fixture and so on. So it doesn't matter really when you wild card for fixtures because you might as well in game week four or gameweek six. There's nothing in gameweek six that's a dramatic fixture swing. And if you feel that a gameweek 4 wildcard side will look pretty much like a gameweek 6 one in terms of personnel and fixtures, then, then it may as well do that. But yeah, or you could just use a couple of transfers. I basically just moved, in my case, Bruno Fernandez and Brian Bomer out for Palmer and Rogers. I probably wouldn't do that, but the computer likes that move and just do that for a couple of games and then wild card out of that.
Mark (FPL General)
I think another important factor on you know, when to wildcard as well will just be the price changes. We're gonna, yeah, we're gonna learn Game Week 1, Gaming 2 How, you know, how quickly or not the prices move. You know, will there be tweaks behind the scenes in terms of, you know, kind of controlling it a wee bit because it could be crazier than ever now that the price predictions are going to be on the, on the website itself. So if it's a case of we, you know, we play gimmick one, gimme two and you know, loads and loads of players are rising 0.3 per week. That is another reason maybe to wild card earlier to try and, you know, you don't benefit from that.
Joe
Yeah, I mean it's one of the reasons I'm sticking with Joe Pedro because I do want him for that whole game, but I just want him in general. I think he's really good value and he's a player that I think will go up in price because he's undervalued. And at the moment, as I said, I've only sort of earmarked Chelsea players in game week four really. And I pretty much, I would, I would like an excuse not to get Palmer really, to be honest. So if he goes up in price and out can't afford him, then so be it. Okay, now this was the Rate My Team tool here. As I said I mentioned there that you can submit your picture here. I've got a picture up on the slide there. You just rate your draft, you just submit a picture like that and then it gives you. That gives you a score like that. Pretty handy as well. And if you're a member as well, you can delve into the Rate My Team tool and the Planner app, which is what I've been using there. That's, that's available for members on the app. So yeah, good plug there. Let's move on to midfielders. So Undai, he's. What is he? Six, Six million. Six million. And we felt that there was quite a lot in that category and there was. Now I've excluded some players and that was just a personal preference. These are the only ones I'm vaguely considering. So there. Because I've got, I can't put everyone on but I just put a list here of some that are quite good and so I'll just sort of go through them and get, sort of get your views really. Um, now we start with one that I'm not seeing in anyone's teams because he was an Aston Villa player last season. These are all last season stats, by the way. So if you see someone with the wrong team, that was because they were, that was where they were last season. So teams is at Manchester United now. Very creative player and he got 68 points at Villa Defcon. Occasional minutes of expected goal involvement, non penalty, not great, but okay, got four assists. Probably a player that's good in real life but might not be good in FPL for Manchester United. But nevertheless I just, just put him there. Just. I, I think I might get Telemans at some point in the season.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah, because 6 million is quite attractive for Tielemans, especially playing for Manchester United. As a fan, very happy to see him join. I think it's a, you know, brilliant, no brainer signing. We should be making more of those kind of signings, just picking some of the best players in the league and most consistent players and bringing them in for, for decent prices. So FPL wise, I echo what you said, fantastic footballer. FPL wise, I think there's a reason why he's not in too many teams. We've got Bruno Fernandes, Mbuemo Cunha, we've got Lammons, Shaw, Maguire. All players that look

Very good options. Maybe better options in Telemans or at least more exciting options in the final third for the first two game weeks against the promoted teams so that it wouldn't surprise me if we get through the first two game weeks and Taman has done well, you know, picked up an assist or two. Picked up Defcon maybe maybe even both games if he's. If, if he's lucky and can. Can you know, return good points per pound. But we're hoping that Bruno Cuna and Bumo.
Joe
Yeah.
Mark (FPL General)
Defenders are getting clean sheets, goalkeepers are getting clean sheets. So that's why I'll swear of him maybe in favor of someone else here but I do agree with you it he'll probably. If he's going to be regular starter which I think he will be. He could be. He could be a gym him. Yeah. At certain points of the season just
Joe
to point out the eagle eyed people watching this will know that the. It's sorted by team alphabetically. So if you don't. It's not that I think Telemans is the best and I think that Le Fay is the worst down the down at the bottom or Anson is the worst. It's not that it's just alphabetical. Next player is the first in the list that is got a better expected goal involvement non penalty rate than and dry. So already he's better than Anjai in terms of actual attacking returns. He's got four goals and five assists and I did get six goals and three assists and it's Hinchwood or as I or Hinge Hallwood. As auto corrected when I sent you the notes yesterday. He will play in the number 10. He could be. Could be used back further back in midfield but I think he will there. Brian have got a few injuries. Mitoma and Minter. Minter could be injured now which will mean that Gomez looks more nailed at right wing and left wing. Could be someone like Karioglu, could be Kuiper. But yeah, Gomez has entered my thoughts definitely but Hinchwood's always in my thoughts. He was great for me last season. Minutes of expected goal involvement non penalty 242 minutes. Yeah, I think he's. I think he's strong but I guess you're probably gonna say but Pascal Gross is 5.5 and on penalties and Gomez is five minutes him. Yeah, you.
Mark (FPL General)
You did your best towards the end of last season to get me to buy hen and I. I should have listened to you because he was fantastic. He was getting into really good positions. Good goal scoring positions, getting plenty of points. Fast forward to this season. Pascal grows 5.5. It's fantasy football. Whatever platform you play, get yourself a set piece taker. Someone who might take penalties if he's cheaper than Henel Wood. I'm always going to go for the set piece guy. Yeah, the Gomez. Gomez may be more interesting than henchard because 1 million saving, lack of wingers because of injuries and just not buying anymore. So yeah, I, I was putting a little piece. When the game launches, you know, a couple of weeks ago I always put a little document together for myself. You know, what's the best, what's the best player at each price point. And then I, before the season starts I go back to it and see what's changed and I put, I did put down Gomez as the best 5 million midfielder a couple of weeks ago. So, so I think he's probably going to cement himself now with what's happening at breaking.
Joe
Yeah, yeah, definitely. I mean I think Gomez for five minutes, he's just absolutely brilliant enabler. Plays at home against Aston Villa front looks ideal for a bench boost I think.
Mark (FPL General)
Didn't he, didn't he score four goals
Joe
in the game against Barnsley? Those memories.
Mark (FPL General)
I don't, I don't care who he was playing against. He scored four goals.
Joe
It was in the League cup against Barnsley. But you know, at that level Barnsley aren't, you know, a totally atrocious side. But any player that can score four goals and they were amazing, each go better than the last one.
Mark (FPL General)
That's right.
Joe
Yeah. I mean he's a really good player. He's really good. You know he, he, he, he played with alongside Messi into Miami before he came to Brighton. So you know who the best it could be.
Mark (FPL General)
It could be if he's, if he does, if he does get loads of minutes. Yeah, he could be a bit of a game breaker.
Joe
Well basically I, I think that Gomez and Ira who's not in here, he did score twice but he's more of a central defensive midfielder. They're, they're Chelsea's next midfield signings probably.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah. Was really impressive at the World Cup.
Joe
Move on to a couple of Bournemouth players. So not tavern here. Cliver has been taking penalties. Bournemouth actually beat a team 10102 or 101 I think it was. But we've got Scott here. The worked in areola. Looks like Sabo is going to be the new Scott by the way. Liverpool Scott doing well for Defcon. 0.9 per star start minutes per expected goal involvement. Non penalty. About the same as Telemans really. So quite creative. Got three goals and two assists. And then Cliver, he barely played last season. Defcon. No, but he is on penalties. He has got two goals and it look, it looks like he's on penalties. A lot of Bournemouth fans just say yeah, he's 100 there. So they are intriguing. I, I think they're one of them. Cliver particular brilliant if you're bench boosting too because they've got Man City gaming one but then got Everton game week two.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah, I was just having a look there while you were chatting just to remind myself. Cliver 2 seasons back, 12 goals, 6 assists. Really using a lot of teams that season. Obviously injury ravaged last year but if he can put those issues behind him, I think he's got the best chance of being the most popular and the best Bournemouth attacker fpl wise this season. Particularly if he does get those penalties and I do, I seem to remember him taking them two years ago as well. Tavernier great last year but it's a new team, it's a new manager back in the fold and I think if Clavert's fit, his place in the team is maybe a little bit more secure than Tavernier as well. I guess so, yeah. Cliver very interesting. Scott. Again it kind of comes down to, you know, Tielman's versus Bruno, Henshaw, Wood versus Gross. If, if there's a possible penalty taker in there, I'm going to chase that. And so Cliver over Scott for me.
Joe
Yeah, a couple of Brentford players next. Dangutara. I did a players to avoid video and he actually included him in there because I just saw competition. They've just signed Anthony, my favorite from videos last season. Who's next on the list here? He's under his Burnley stats here but he is at Brentford now. They've also got Lewis Potter, they've also got Sharda, Kevin Sharda still there and obviously Thiago up front. The reason I wasn't keen on Dango Tara, it was just because of that competition because there are players there and I wasn't sure who was going to start. I pretty much think that Dango is probably the, the, the most likely to start out of all of those more wide forward players. Defcon occasional. He's got seven goals and eight assists. So these are really powerful stats. Jaden Anthony who you ignored all the season, eight goals and four assists. Cut price at Burnley and he's worth a little bit more now at Brentford but yeah, they're, they're intriguing but once again Sangari might just get defcon. Might be the new answer. Might get Def con every week and he's 5.5.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah, yeah, I think we're, we're all going to have a Brentford midfielder at some point. We're hoping we can maybe pick one of them up for the long term as well. Anyone who's a new viewer, Joe, every week last season tried to get me to buy Jaden Anthony and I downright refused and I was so relieved when he got relegated, but he's popped up again. It's like a whack, a mole.
Joe
He kept scoring every week, didn't he?
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah. And taking the jokes out of it, he's just a very good player and I think a very good signing for. For Brenford Dangle. Yeah, dangle. Probably at 6.5 a wait and see for me just to see, you know, again, Brentford were very much a wait and see last season. We. We had them tip for relegation and they had a great season. But the main point here, as you mentioned, I'm Sangari. I've been. I've been aware of him for the last two seasons on a. On another fantasy platform. He's been incredible. For me, he's been one of the best perform performers on that platform. So I'm glad to see him join the Premier League and I fully expect him to be an absolute machine for defensive contribution. So because I've been aware of him as well the last couple years, I feel like I should be one of the first to go and get him. But again, I don't know if I want to go there straight away in game week one. But I don't want to make the mistake last season where I didn't get Anderson probably until around gimmick 30. But if Sangari shows early doors that he's going to be similar, I'm just going to get him in pretty quickly.
Joe
Yeah. Now dango is 6.5 and I've included 6.5 players in here because you're looking at 4.5 defenders and 5 million defenders. So for example, you've got Nicol Williams, for example there. He could easily be downgraded to a 4.5 and then that would give you a 0.5 to move into midfield possibly. So it'd be shame not to include some of those players there like Dan Gotara. The next group, I'm going to group these together. This is 6.51. So we're interesting in their own right. Neto at Chelsea because he's being strongly linked with a move to Manchester City and the wingers at Manchester City are going to be asked to do a lot of work and at the moment they've got. Got Doku and Semeno you would think would be first choice, but then he's also got Neto and Savino. Well, potentially Neto and got Savino who might indeed go. So that's a sort of watch this space really. But he did get seven assists and five goals at Chelsea. Ishmael Assar at Crystal palace always. Well, I say always reliable. Every time I got him in my side he didn't do anything and every time I didn't, he did. But he got nine goals and two assists last season. And my favorite, Dewsbury hall who has come in and out my side various drafts, a 6.5 at Everton, eight goals and seven assists. And he can get defcons occasionally on a lot of set pieces. The naysayers will say he overperformed. I just think he's excellent. But yeah, so there's 3.6.5 there if you wanted to go now, I imagine you probably wouldn't go for Neto. Wherever he is. He's probably not guaranteed starts. But Sa Dewsby hall are actually, you know, quite good contenders.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah. And they both probably feel better to me at this point than in Jai and Jai is probably very much a penalty pick. We're not 100 sure that will even happen. I think Barry took a penalty and
Joe
he was on the pitch and diverse.
Mark (FPL General)
I know he won it himself, Barry and it's a friendly so maybe there's something to that. But it's enough to plant the seeds of doubt when I don't want to fall into the trap either of just getting a penalty taker when he doesn't really offer any other avenues. I think he might have had zero assists last year year for example. He definitely didn't have many if he got any at all in Jai. So I do like. I do like Sar more. I think it's maybe the, the new manager factor that is the reason why he's not in my current draft. But I think I'll consider him a lot more strongly as we get closer to kickoff. Just a top, top player, great World cup. You know, you know exactly what you're going to get from but we want him to play centrally. That's the key. Like he did under Glasner. And then Dewsbury hall just feels like if you've got any doubts about your 6 million or 6.5 million midfielder, just get yourself a Dewsbury hall as a placeholder there. I usually a player who's maybe 5 million the season before and does really well and gets a, you know, quite a big price bump we automatically ignore. But I'm like you, I just think he's. He's so Good. I think he can. I think he could get the same numbers again in terms of goals and assistance. You know. Plays pretty advanced, great left foot. Just a good player. So if I've got any doubts over in Jai and he's had obviously transferred links away as well which is not what you want going into game week one maybe the safe play is Dewsbury
Joe
hall to begin off now how Wilson. These are his Fulham stats. He's at Leeds now I believe. I have to check that. Yeah DEFCON occasionally. 10 goals, nine assists. Perhaps he's at a better side. Now the leads of Fulham that's a bone of contention. But he could be good. He's 6.5. Stack at Leeds is 6 million. He's had a bit of a bump because he. He's got a good range of things. He's got five goals, six assists last season and his DEFCON points per start is 0.7. So it's pretty strong long as well. So that they're both good options here. And I've also got one here. Harvey Barnes. Now people are forgetting Newcastle because they keep sort of hemorrhaging good players. But there are still some good players left there. And I think. Well I think. I mean Newcastle fans will hope that the good players they have got left will stay. Now Harvey Barnes, he's been consistent at Newcastle and Leicester. He plays, he shoots and some of them go in seven times. Seven goals he got last season for and and assists. And his minutes per expected goal moment non penalty is every 209 minutes which the second best after Dango in our list. So there's some other options there. All I imagine to be differentials. Yeah.
Mark (FPL General)
And again you think. You think back to last season, you look at people's current drafts this season, I'm surprised there's not more love for Harry Wilson given how good he was last year. I would say he probably has moved to a better team at the moment because they've got a manager who's you know, established. Fulham are going through transition for example. So I. I like the move for Hari Wilson. I expect him to play a lot. I expect him to take a lot of set pieces. So again maybe Wilson over in Jai could be something I could look at. Stack was very good last year but I think there's a chance Wilson will eat into his set pieces a bit which might have an impact. I think we've already seen a little bit of that in preseason. But Stack's great for defcon so he's got, you know, he's got roots to Points as we can see here. Five goals, six assists. And then you've got Harvey Barnes who I've always liked. I seem to remember having him and West Brom when he maybe go on loan to West Brom or I need to check out afterwards. But I. We've. He's been an option for us for a long time in FPL and Gordon's gone. He was the reason why we haven't picked him for last couple of seasons. Given that they've had a lot of sales and not many incomings, Barnes probably gets better minutes this season than he has for a long time.
Joe
And yeah, I was going to say competition. Even. Even fewer. Fewer bodies in the way. Sadly. Elanga looked like he got a terrible attack. A terrible attack on her. Friendly. I don't know what's going on there.
Mark (FPL General)
That was brutal.
Joe
That. That looks pretty bad. It might not. Well hopefully it's not but it did look pretty bad. So yeah, it puts put SP in the driving.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah I think Barnes Barnes minutes are going to certainly increase this season and we know as you say on the pitch, you know what he's going to do and could be great value. So yeah one not to ignore, that's for sure.
Joe
Yeah. Final three midfielders two. Two I'm seeing in a lot of drafts. One I'm not Elliot Anderson nodding Price now at Man City we know what defcon monster he is. Absolutely great range of points. He's got goals in him. Scored four times, five assists as well. We just don't know what he's going to be like at Man City. The assumption is that he's going to do well but he's 6.5 people are going for that. Lafayette Sunderland they play two promoted sides. No they don't play two promoter size first but they have two good fixtures first. Sorry but he's 6 million we think on penalties. He's certainly on a share penalties with Diara and can get def con occasionally. He scored five times and six assists. I had him for a couple of periods last season in my team and and thoroughly enjoyed it because he was very very low owned. But his name is out there now and the third player is a is a differential this season is Fernandez west ham last season but now at spurs and he's been doing okay in pre him can get def con many spit. He got involved non penalty not. Not very strong every 600 minutes or so but he did score three times. He has had four assists. I think he has scored in pre season already. So yeah, I'm not seeing him in many teams but yeah some loads of choice especially you know those three.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah loads of choice and the more I look at this list and how many options that you can make a good case for. I like the Tom Freeman approach from years gone by that your fourth midfielder you jump around you, you make use that spot, you use a lot of transfers on that spot based on fixtures.
Joe
Yeah.
Mark (FPL General)
So that's something I might look at maybe for the next draft kind of map out you know which of these guys fixtures match up well in terms of transfers and stuff like that. Elliot Anderson, we know how good he was last year does the DEFCON decrease this year because you know man city will have a lot more possession maybe but I still think he'll get enough to I mean the Guy was hitting 20 DEFCON runs regularly last season so he can, he can easily hit 12 often and I think his goal assists probably you know go up as well playing for that team he's got everything in his locker so I think he'll. He could very quickly be in every team again maybe not to start with because he went quite deep into the World cup and we're maybe a little bit concerned about minutes and we just want to see what Manchester City look like as well the phase one where he's not been in any of my drafts but he really should be because he's just a good pick. I don't know why I find it hard to get excited about it maybe it's the sundering factor maybe the driver don't score a huge, huge amount of goals but if they do there's a good chance he's going to be involved so again I could easily take enjoy out and just put Lefay in Yeah
Joe
he is, he's really I mean I can testify having only last season he really is good to own because you get this broad range of oh suddenly he's got defcon suddenly he's got bonus as well got an assist you know just and he's very low owned not sure his ownership this time around be a bit higher but still be quite low earned let's move on to defenders we've got the 4.5s here just a few here I've obviously not doing all of them them you know you could have you know because there 4.5 for a Lotsman but I just some of the best ones concert Aston Villa is interesting because he's being heavily linked with Arsenal he only got one assist his minutes were expected goal non penalties poor and of course we know Aston Villa center Back's got no defcon at all. But that may change at Arsenal if he goes there, which he may not. He's just a wait and see. We can't tell at the moment because you were talking about the Arsenal with Mosc. You know, we were avoiding Gabri be nailed on but you've got all of those, you know, options. I've got Ben White in my side at the moment. My draft, I don't know which one to go for and it shows that if Conor does sign maybe he'll be the one at 4.5. But I think he's interesting just to monitor. Probably not for game week one though.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah, I think for the game as a whole we really need Conor not to go to Arsenal because Automatic pick what 3 1/2 million saving on Gabriel. Just no one will ever have Gabriel over cona and a 4.5 with a clean sheet likelihood he's just going to be an absolute, you know, bargain. So hopefully that doesn't happen for the game itself but if it does, obviously you go and pick them and you probably have more season. Yeah, I'm still on Mosquera. I, I kind of as soon as like many others, you know, before the the prices came out, we're thinking, you know, which price do you want to see most after they release the Gabriel price it's like give me Mosquera's price, let me see what the saving is and I still like that over over Gabriel. I still like mosquito over in Capier Califuri as well. I just feel like he's a little bit safer for me minutes. But the caveat is they could easily sign someone before the season starts and that all changes.
Joe
Yeah. Next one's Kogu who's in your side. 4.5 DEFCON Very minimal but attacking threat there. He's pretty good minutes for expected goal moment non penalty every 587 minutes which is yeah the best of this list. He's got a goal and two assists should be nailed on. There are other options especially because there's a bit of.
Medical Advertiser
Of sort.
Joe
Sort of we don't know what's going to happen at center back. So you've got Dunk and Buscagli Dunk may be preferred to for Scovich. The the new the new fella who's good for Defcon who's come on from come to Bryant from Spurs and we've got Pascal Strike as well who used to be Leeds. So you've got four good center backs there so it's quite hard to know which one to pick A lot of people are saying for Scovich but I don't know where he's going to start. Kariogra I feel worse will and reefer is 5 million so I think you're probably on the right track with Kariogru. I've got for Brogan myself and I don't fancy a Brighton double up on defense. Just historically I've been disappointed in the 89th minute by that yeah, I'm ready.
Mark (FPL General)
I'm ready for the 89th minute. Double clean sheet. Wipo on the bench. Boost the I agree. If you have 44 very capable center backs that will definitely share minutes over the season. So straight away, no thank you. I've always been a fan of because when you watch games he's like he's kind of Munoz light. He just loves to get forward and what I like about him is his versatility. He can play left back or right back and like you said, if there's a lack of wingers he's certainly capable of pushing up and playing that role as well. So.
Joe
Or to Kuiper might in which case then he's still nailed on yeah exactly.
Mark (FPL General)
Left back. So I I like him a lot. He's been in the team now for about a week and it just feels. Feels good. I like the price. I like like I'm just bullish on his minutes over the center back so I think I'm going to back myself on that one.
Joe
Okay A couple of Brentford players I toy with the idea of Brentford

I is the defcon guy. 0.9 defcons per start. Neither of them really great for xgi non penalty but they both have 2 assists and coyote actually has a goal as well. So they're, they're, they're ones to consider. Um, not the best. Um, we've got Mitchell from Crystal palace once again. He's not, he's not Munoz, um, and he's not Cambo who we think might get a lot of defcon. So Mitchell's sort of not good but he has got three assists and a goal so he could cut, pop up with. Okay and Then another, another 4.5 to mention. Anthony Robinson at Fulham could be on penalties or certainly have a share of penalties. Defcon vary occasionally and he has got a goal himself. Yeah, that before we go on to the others. Yeah. Some other names there to toy with with.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah, for sure. Anthony Robinson always most exciting. He's been played by injury as well last couple of seasons but he does have a, you know, 10 F.P.L. s season to his name which we shouldn't forget about. And hopefully we see him back to his best again this year. Cuz we want as many exciting fullbacks to, you know, tempt us away from the defcon center backs as, as possible. So if Robinson takes penalties, it'll be Leighton Ban's throwback and we'll all be. We all be going to get him Brenford guys. Yeah I think they're going to play a part this season because they're yeah they're 4.5 IR coyote we'll kind of see that plays out I probably won't start with them and Mitchell as well just shouldn't ignore him because you know we're looking kind of reminds me a little bit of of Luke Shaw last season he's the same price didn't get many attacking returns Luke Shaw, you know Mitchell probably didn't get. Yeah what's that one goal, three assists which is actually fine really for a 4.5 so yeah we're all going to probably want Munoz or maybe a center back for Defcon but Mitchell might just take along quite nicely himself yeah so
Joe
from game I got they got Everton and Man City okay But then gaming 3 Fulham away Ipswich at home leads away so better better fixtures there so we might want a bit of Crystal palace there next last four I mentioned Rodon at Leeds once again I can testify he's great player to own pop ups with the odd goal he got two last season DEFCON very occasionally 0.6 DEFCON points per start expected goal involvement non penalty not not high so don't expect goals every week they're rare but he's just. He's 4.5 hasn't had a price bump which is good sure I actually think is the best 4.5 not because of him I don't I think he's 2 points or 6 points but because he plays for a top team and he's nailed on because they still haven't signed anyone else to compete with him yet and they've got two promoted sides in the first fixtures Hull and Ipswich and then Everton away so strong early fixtures I just think think there's clean sheets there I think Shaw's good and the last two I'm going to mention Aina and Nottingham Forest so you've got Neca Williams you want to go down a bit not as good but Aina is there and the last one is Hume at who's in my side now Sunderland player he'd be he's a defender but he's been playing a right wing they have a priority to sign a right winger but they haven't yet so watch this space and if they don't early on you might only need him for the first two or three anyway 4.5 and he scored in the last pre season Game. He's actually got two goals and assists for Sunderland in the league last season. He's very strong. There's a lot, there's a lot of strength in this 4.5 category.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah, those last four names I think are all very valuable. I wrote on popped up a lot defcon last season when I was checking each week, you know, I expect his minutes to be okay again four or five. I just think it's very kind Price sit and forget him. Maybe rotate him with someone else in the last year. Luke Shaw. Shaw, he's been in every draft and I think he's just going to stay because fixtures Price I think last season is a bit of an anomaly as well. You know, one goal, one assists from Shaw is as bad as it can get. Yes, his, you know, XGI numbers are not great here either but just by the nature of playing left back and getting forward and you know, swinging crosses in, he's going to get more returns this year than he did last year. I'll eat my hat if that doesn't happen if he stays injury free. So I think great option, looks shot. Obviously some debate you could go Maguire for 0.5 extra but I like the Kai Saven there. Aina looks like he's going to play, could play in a wing backers, you know, system under, under Glasner we're all. Most people are looking at Nico Williams. Maybe you see a point five and go Aina. Aina's historically been quite good for bonus points as well. And then human is probably the most exciting because we're always after an out of possession prospect in preseason and I think he could be a huge bandwagon Megan, you know, next week if there's no signing at Sunderland, I think he'll, he'll start popping up. You'll get a couple of people on YouTube talking about him and all of a sudden everyone has them and. And maybe I'll be one of those people as well. So I'm keeping a close eye on that situation also.
Joe
Yeah, yeah. So he's away at Ipswich. He comes away with an attack in return and a clean sheet and then he's got Fulham at home next. The price predicted changes are now on the website so we're anticipating prices to change a lot. Yeah, he's nailed on for that. He may also do nothing, just get two points there and owners like me might think I' to cash in and then. And so I might have a dud. But that's what, that's what you're buying into when you play this game. Okay, 5 million defenders. So we're gonna wrap up with some of these. Lots of names here. Try and be quick because I'm aware of time. So for 5 million you get a bit more. I think a lot. I think, you know, pound for pound these are better picks because they've got either a bit of defcon or a bit more attacking threat. But usually defcon here got Van Heck Brighton last season, now at Spurs. Deserby loves him. I think he's going to play. I think it's going to be him and, and Van Van de Ven. If they go for three at the back, could be. It would be Senesi as well. But I think Van Heck will be the most nailed. He's defcon points per start point seven. He's got three goals and three assists in fpl. Well, I'm a bright fan, so he's great anyway, but owned him a lot last season. He's. He's brilliant. Colwell Chelsea is a player I've earmarked for game week four. He's only 5 million DEFCON per start two. So he's maxed out on DEFCON. No goals and assists and he barely played really. So it's a, you know, small sample size there. We've got Canva as well. Crystal Palace. So above Mitchell, what you pay for Defcon per start 1.3. Absolutely huge. But you don't get any goals and assists with him there. So I'll stop. Stop with them. But yeah, some. Some intriguing ones there.
Commercial Announcer
Yeah.
Mark (FPL General)
Colwell, I'll probably just let him prove his fitness first given that he was out for so long. Canvo again probably just want minnows for the extra 0.5 or maybe even Mitchell for. For 0.5 less if cash is an issue. So Van Heck for me from the top three is the most interesting because like you, I think he'll be a regular. He can't hit the defcon. He is pretty decent in the box as well for attack and threat when you watch games. So yeah, he's. He's my pick of the top three there.
Joe
Yeah. We have Anderson at Fulham. Good for DEFCON. 1.2 per start there and he's gone assist. I had a bits last season. He threatened to score four in the last minute of each game and this. That's coming. Pascal strike. As we said now at Brighton, 5 million. But will he start Defcon? Yes and he got an assist. We've got Harry Maguire who I do like actually because I feel with Casamiro gone, they're Gonna have to aim at someone's head. And she. You know historically it's been Maguire 5 million can get Defcon sort of every other match. He's got two assists and a goal. I think he's strong there. So before we look at some of the Newcastle players. Another good batch there. And yeah I would prefer Magu to shore but that 0.5 goes a long way.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah. I think the Maguire 0.5 extra could be justified because probably does have maybe more roots to points there. Strike. We said we'll avoid the Brighton guys just because there's four of them and we don't know who's going to play regularly. And in Anderson I think it's easy as well. I think he probably is 0.5 more than he was last season. And you know new manager team in transition. You know just going to wait and see on him.
Joe
Yeah. So we've got some Newcastle players here. Chow. I'm starting to see a lot of teams. I don't know what Newcastle Castle are going to show up because it's you know so much in flux there. But they could still be good. They've got Liverpool to start. Then Tottenham Bournemouth leads and holds. So it's not a bad run of four after that Liverpool game. So you've got Lewis hall looks like he's going to stay there. Can get Defcon occasionally. Two assists and a goal. Botman got on a goal and an assist and Defcon every other game. Ciao. Almost every other game for Defcon and four goals. So he's got. He's got goals on him. And Dan Burn has. Hasn't returned yet. So we could have included him. So there's a lot of options there. And I think the Newcastle back line obviously Pope's not going to play. They're going to have a new goalkeeper there. But the. The backline itself is. Is still there.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah.
Medical Advertiser
And it's.
Mark (FPL General)
It's good quality players. You know. Chow hall and Botman are all top Premier League players. So they should be capable of. Of. Of keeping clean sheets. But Bruno Gar's to Tonali disappear and is massive, you know for protecting those guys. I think think Newcastle defensively is just an easy avoid because of what's been going on there in terms of selling all their best players. If you're going to go Newcastle punt for the first game week it's probably Harvey Barnes who we talked about. So yeah I don't think you touch the defense for now.
Joe
And the final three here. Neca Williams is in your teams. Five million three Go. Three assists and two goals. Pretty strong minutes per expected goal involvement on penalty every 541 minutes which is the second best behind Chow in this list here. He is strong obviously better than Aina according to pre season so far has been getting forward next time is Ballard here did really well Game Week 1 I think it was last season surprised everyone but he can get defcon should start because the other center backs are not ready. Aldoretti I don't think it's going to be ready for the start of the season. Two goals and two assists. And Van de Vent once again also really good at the beginning of last season the spurs center backs get forward a bit. He's got four goals and an assist. I benched him for his 20 plus point score which still rankles but you know, who knows.
Mark (FPL General)
That's why you prefer Von Haecken.
Medical Advertiser
I.
Joe
That's why I prefer Van Head but I can't. I've got it. I can't argue with Van Der Van. He does have a good spread of points potential clean sheets, defcon occasionally but goals definitely, definitely there. So some real options there. You can see what you get for 5 million. I prefer pretty much all of these 5 minutes to 4.5s but you know, need to be.
Mark (FPL General)
Yeah, exactly.
Joe
But the, the.
Mark (FPL General)
There will be four fives that will emerge that will. Will be better than, you know, some of these guys as well. But I agree if you're Nico Williams, he's the forest defender I want but if I need money, maybe I do go Aina Ballard. Yeah, I think he's the son. I'm going to get a go for it. But again we've got the Hume option to save some money. Money. And I'm with you on. On Van De. You know Van Heck over Van De Ven. But long term I'm probably on Poro over both of them whenever he's back in action. So yeah, there's. There's so many options in defense this season.

Yeah, there's. There's lots there. And they've changed the pricing obviously to sort of factor this in as well. But it does present some. There's still plenty of cheap options and as I said, I did a whole separate video on the 4 million and 4.5 million options. So do have a look at that. The fancy Football Scouts channel. Thanks a lot for joining me. Mark. Good luck with your team. Good luck with the tinkering for next week. So we'll be back again next week which will be as near to your final draft as we can get it, barring any sort of press conferences. But we'll have the. The community shield out the way. We'll have the final preseason games for most of the sides, so we should be a little bit more to firming up our plans. But yeah. So until then. See you then. Yeah.
Mark (FPL General)
