Mike Wright
Welcome to the podcast. Welcome to the season. Welcome, one and all.
Unknown Speaker
Football today.
Mike Wright
Did you do a dance?
Unknown Speaker
I am so genuinely excited to just sit and watch real football, where the stats matter, where players are on the line, where I destroy you two.
Mike Wright
In our league, we actually need you to spend some time in the office during the game working on the ultimate draft kit for next.
Unknown Speaker
Wait, what?
Mike Wright
Yeah, you got to get that going.
Unknown Speaker
Sorry, bro.
Mike Wright
Yeah, you're the draft guy.
Unknown Speaker
All right.
Mike Wright
But, yeah, we'll watch. We'll let you know what happens.
Unknown Speaker
Thank you. I would. I would very much appreciate that.
Mike Wright
Andy, Mike and Jason back again. The Fantasy Footballers Podcast. Thanks for joining us on today's episode. It is. Look, this is a regular season episode. We've got the fantasy forecast for previewing some matchups. We got our starts of the week. We've got the return of Jason's epic kicker pick, of course. And some news. We got super bowl predictions on the show today. This is a great one. I'm excited. Football's happening tonight. All of our week one rankings are up and on the website, the fantasy footballers.com the DFS passes up. Those of you that bought the ultimate DFS pass that is available on the website, guys, I mean, it's.
Andy Holloway
We made it happening. I feel like that gif right now. It's happening wherever lasers and crazy backgrounds.
Unknown Speaker
We're here.
Mike Wright
It's exciting. All right, let's kick it off with the super bowl predictions, guys. We each. You know, this is just fun to do. The season's about to start. I want to know who you have going to the super bowl, and I want to know who you think wins the Super Bowl. And I'm going to. I'm going first because I can't go second. Or third. I have the New Orleans Saints coming out of the nfc. I think the defense is improved. Drew Brees always gets it done. Sean Payton, he has depth at the running back position, and I think they do enough. They certainly can win that division. I think that division is going to be competitive, but I know it's a little strange, but I'm gonna take the Saints versus the Patriots. I'm gonna take the Saints to win it all.
Unknown Speaker
Wow. Yeah. Look, I like the. The not chalk pick, but I don't like the pick being the Saints. I can't. I have a hard time right now seeing them make the playoffs, but I know I stand alone here. Mine is going to be rather chalk. I'm taking the pace.
Mike Wright
Of course it is. Well, because you like to win.
Unknown Speaker
Yes. I'm trying to. Trying to predict what's going to happen. I think it's going to be the Patriots narrowly over the Steelers, and I think that they will run up against the Seattle Seahawks, and the Seahawks will do what they could not do last time. I think the Seattle Seahawks will be the super bowl champions this year. As much as it pains me to believe that.
Mike Wright
Interesting.
Andy Holloway
And I'm with Andy. I have the Saints, which is crazy.
Unknown Speaker
In the super bowl.
Mike Wright
You guys, I did not know yours and you did not know mine, and we both somehow chose the Saints out of the nfc. I have the. Not the Seahawks, not the Cowboys, not the Packers.
Andy Holloway
Nope. I'm taking the Saints. I'm taking the Steelers, not the Falcons.
Unknown Speaker
In the same division.
Andy Holloway
I'm taking the Saints versus the Steelers. Steelers win another Super Bowl. Big Ben rides off into the sun, and he's done. He's retiring with another Super Bowl.
Mike Wright
Wow.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah. You know, I had a real hard time going Patriots over the Steelers. I. I think the Steelers could absolutely get there, but I don't see anybody stopping this Seahawks team right now.
Mike Wright

Jason Moore
News and notes from around the league.
Andy Holloway
That's the first time you almost cut yourself off with a sound drop.
Mike Wright
You know, he's ready.
Unknown Speaker
He thinks if we get the show done quicker that football will just be here sooner.
Mike Wright
One of my potential starts of the week was going to be Eddie Lacy going up against the packers defense with Thomas Rawls and news of a high ankle sprain. His availability in question. However, Thomas Rawls is now practicing in full for week one. So while Pete Carroll did say that Eddie Lacey is ready for a full load, it doesn't look like that's what's going to be required. And so I'm not, I'm not willing to go start Eddie Lacey against his former club in week one as a must start candidate.
Andy Holloway
I'm not starting anyone in that backfield this week. I'm going to let it shake.
Mike Wright
Yeah, it's interesting though, because, well, we'll talk about it later, but your start of the week is in a similar type of situation. High scoring offense, unknown backfield situation.
Andy Holloway
You're talking to Jason.
Unknown Speaker
Mine is. And I.
Mike Wright
Wait, you're the one who started.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, that's my start of the week, bro. And we'll talk about it later. But I think there's a big difference here in the situation. One is on the road, one is at home and statistically we'll get there.
Mike Wright
All right.
Andy Holloway
More news.
Mike Wright
Odell Beckham Jr. Did some light running on Wednesdays. At Wednesday's practice, what do you think about Odell Beckham's availability for Week one?
Andy Holloway
I think he's going to play, but this is really unfortunate. He is Sunday Night Football.
Unknown Speaker
Yes.
Andy Holloway
You better have a backup plan.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, that's a really good point to bring up. He's Sunday night. So you can't wait until game time and then think about, oh, shoot, I don't have anybody left to play. Make sure you've got someone in the Monday night game or someone else in the Sunday night game. And I would take Odell Beckham and put him in your flex right now. And any player that's like that, that's, you know, possibly injured and you're going to have to wait to find out if they're playing, put them in your flex spot because it just gives you more options to, you know, okay, if I need to switch to a running back or something like that. And also since we're talking about this pro tip, if you have a player playing tonight, Tyree Kill or Kareem Hunt, any, anybody in tonight's game, make sure they are not in your flex spot. Even if they're like they're not your RB one or they're, you know, they're not your main guy the points are still the same. The points are still the same. Get them in your running back spot or your wide receiver spot so that you have more flexibility later on in the week should things happen.
Mike Wright
Yeah, you never know what kind of practice, injuries or things might happen to your other position players. You don't want to be stuck in a situation where, oh, great, I'm out of wide receivers because I played Tyree Kill in the, in the flex and now I got to go sign somebody. Okay. Other news worth mentioning. I think it's interesting. Nick Boyle's listed ahead of Benjamin Watson in Baltimore. Watson may still be the pass catching tight end with Boyle blocking a lot more. We don't know how that will play out, but you are coming into a situation where, look, the leading tight end receiver last year in total catches was Dennis Pitta in this offense and all they did was basically lose Steve Smith and Dennis Pettis. So there is a role for the tight end pass catcher in Baltimore. We just don't have certainty on who that will be and how often they'll be, you know, in that position to, you know, is it going to be Ben Watson and Boyle catching passes is.
Unknown Speaker
That could even sneak in and be surprisingly effective. So that's. That is a situation worth monitoring.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. If this game happens and all of a sudden one of these tight ends has five or more targets and you're that tight end streamer, you might as well scoop them up off the waiver wire.
Mike Wright
Yeah. I guess it's worth saying that even though Dennis Pitt had had, what, 86 receptions, he wasn't a fantasy force. He didn't score very often in ppr.
Unknown Speaker
He was relatively safe, though.
Mike Wright
All right, let's talk about Leonard Fournette. Not listed on the injury report for week one against the Texans. That's still a really difficult matchup in week one as a, as a rookie. But he is not listed on the injury report, so that's good news for owners. I think that's all that's worth talking about. We do a full injury run through on tomorrow's show as well. Kind of an in or out. Do we think somebody's going to play or not? We'll weigh in on Odell Beckham Jr. A little bit more tomorrow with more. With more news. Is there anything else you guys want to bring up?
Unknown Speaker
I want to get to these games.
Mike Wright
Let's do it.
Jason Moore
Fantasy forecast.
Unknown Speaker
It's good to be back.
Mike Wright
If you missed the preview of the Thursday night game, it was on yesterday's episode. So you can go back and Listen to that. We talked about the Patriots and we talked about the Chiefs. Is there anything that has changed in that matchup that's worth mentioning in your minds?
Unknown Speaker
I'll say this since, since after that show, the most popular question that I get on Twitter right now is whether or not you start Cream Hunt against Patriots defense. I think absolutely you start them. Andy brings this up every year. But it's worth noting that there is an advantage to having a player play on Thursday. Not just that you get to watch them on opening day football. That in and of itself is a huge advantage for life, but the fact that you get to know, like if Kareem Hunt has a great game, maybe you play someone safer, or if Kareem Hunt doesn't have a good game now, when you're making that decision on your roster later, you go, oh, I'm going to play the high upside guy because he didn't play well. You get, you know, you get a little bit more information before the main event.
Andy Holloway
I mean, the only way you don't play Kareem Hunt is if you drafted earlier, you drafted before the wear injury. So Hunt is a depth piece on your bench. Otherwise, if you drafted after the injury, I mean, you took him to be a starting running back, you're going to play him.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Mike Wright
All right. A little bit of an update on Odell Beckham. He's not practicing today either. He's not practicing Thursday. Similar routine as Wednesday where he warmed up with the team but did not practice. Let's start with the jets and the Bills. There was news this morning. LaShawn McCoy sitting out practice today. Thursday. Illness with an illness. Let's talk about this game, but let's try to talk very little about this game. Just as a service to our listeners, the jets and Bills probably though, this has got to be the lowest over under the week, right? 40 points.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, probably real.
Mike Wright
I mean, probably down there with the Texans game.
Andy Holloway
I think the Texans is slightly worse.
Mike Wright
It actually looks the same. Forty points. Jets, Bills, Bills, nine and a half point favorites. This may be the only time you see that this year. Tyrod Taylor, Josh McCown, the quarterbacks. Taylor likely to start? Yes, should start. But a concussion makes him very risky, you know, coming off of the concussion. But are you starting Tyrode Taylor with confidence this week against the Jets?
Unknown Speaker
I sure am. We'll talk about him a little bit later.
Mike Wright
Okay.
Andy Holloway
I think that Taylor's. As long as he starts. I think that Taylor is a fine play. I mean, especially with heavily favored at home. Jordan Matthews is Expected to play the jets side. Here's the difficult thing about week one, right? We know that there's, there's massive, massive turnover with the, with defensive units, with coaching, with philosophies on how they want to approach things. The jets want to lose and just all kinds of different things have shifted up. And the data that we have to go on is last year's defense because we have nothing yet from this year. So the thing about week one is.
Mike Wright
Yeah, if Mike and I thought that the Saints defense was the same as last year, neither of us would have made them exactly a contender.
Andy Holloway
But you, when you're making your start sit decisions this week, play the guys you drafted to start. That's how, that's how I approach week one. Until I'm proven otherwise, I'm playing the guys that I am meant to start.
Mike Wright
The only confident starts for me on the Buffalo side is actually Lashawn McCoy and then I like Charles Clay. Yes, if you waited on tight end. I really like Clay this week. I moved him up in my week one rankings. On the other side, where's the confidence? Where, where's the starters?
Andy Holloway
Powell.
Mike Wright
That's it?
Andy Holloway
Yep. I mean, Forte's probably a fine play because he's going to get more snaps than people have hoped and expected over the entire off season. So I think that he is a fine flex to play.
Mike Wright
The Bills were real bad against the run last. They were 29th against the run. They gave up 1.3 rushing touchdowns per game, which was second worst in the league. So you could have a situation where Powell is very involved, but then, yeah, then Forte takes the takes a touchdown.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, I wouldn't, I mean, I don't, I need to go back and look at my rankings, but I, I believe Forte will be higher this week than Powell.
Andy Holloway
Okay.
Mike Wright
All right. Can we move on?
Andy Holloway
Yes, please.
Mike Wright
The Atlanta Falcons traveled to Chicago to take on the Chicago Bears because they're from Chicago.
Andy Holloway
That's how it works.
Mike Wright
Falcons, seven point favorites in this one, 49 point over under. We get to see the defending NFC champions for the first time in 2017. Look, you're starting Matt Ryan in this game. You're starting Freeman, you're starting Julio. Are you starting Tevin Coleman in this matchup?
Andy Holloway
I think he's a fine start and again, defenses have turned over, but I don't think that the Bears have done enough to upgrade from their 27th run defense last year. So I think that both Freeman and Coleman are fine plays. Freeman is the preferable guy, but Coleman is a fine running back. Three type for me. But he always has massive upside every single week.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Mike Wright
Last year, the Falcons running backs averaged just under 56 receiving yards per game, which was second best in the league. Both of those running backs contributed in the passing game. How do you feel about the Falcons defense in this game? Do you feel like there's an opportunity there with Mike Glenn in his first matchup or. I mean, his first start as the Chicago Bear? Are they kind of a sneaky, streaming play at defense? You know, on defense, I've drafted the.
Andy Holloway
Falcons in almost every single one of my leagues.
Mike Wright
That's right. You took them in our league of record, didn't you?
Andy Holloway
Yeah, because.
Unknown Speaker
And their schedule after the Bears is pretty good as well.
Andy Holloway
They're a young defense. They have very athletic guys up front. I mean, if you watch the Falcons last year, of course, they made it to the Super Bowl. You realize that, yes, they lost the super bowl, but they were shutting down Tom Brady for three quarters. Mean, it ended poorly. But. But three quarters of dominating. Of dominating the Patriots and Mike Glennon and the Chicago Bears are not the Patriots. They're just. I think that the Falcons are going to be a very underrated defensive unit for fantasy this year.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah. There's still pieces of the Bears that I would play. Obviously. Jordan Howard is an automatic start.
Mike Wright
Did you say fangs?
Andy Holloway
I did.
Mike Wright
Bears have fangs?
Andy Holloway
Not really.
Unknown Speaker
You know, a sneaky start from the bear side of the ball to me.
Andy Holloway
Is a bear with fangs.
Mike Wright
Would be.
Unknown Speaker
That would be worse. If I'm out in the woods and I turn around and the. There's this bear and he's got these big fangs like a saber tooth tiger.
Mike Wright
Like a Dracula bear.
Unknown Speaker
Afraid. True blood. Thanks for that, Mike. We got to draw some things on Jay Grizz next time he's in here. No, but I was going to say Zach Miller, I think, is a sneaky star.
Andy Holloway
Yes. Thank you.
Unknown Speaker
The Atlanta Falcons for all their youth. And, you know, they've got a great playmaking defense.
Mike Wright
They're not necessarily a defense that keeps the yardage down.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah. And I don't expect them to be able to cover the tight end well. Zach Miller has always been productive when he plays, which is rare. I believe he plays this week, so he should be okay.
Mike Wright
White or Right.
Unknown Speaker
I'm going right.
Mike Wright
There's some news this morning about, you know, the confidence of the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator that Kevin White can be a number one. So they envision him as a number one. It's just a matter of.
Unknown Speaker
What did you just do? I tried to flick this.
Mike Wright
Another bug away.
Unknown Speaker
We are being overrun in the studio.
Mike Wright
You flew.
Unknown Speaker
I was trying to flick him away. I just flicked on.
Mike Wright
On my iPad.
Unknown Speaker
He was already on your iPad.
Mike Wright
All right. I think we're talking about Kevin White, so being distracted is fine. Kevin White, look, he's worth a pickup. He's worth a wait and see.
Unknown Speaker
No, definitely worth a pickup and a wait and see.
Mike Wright
If Alison Jeffrey was still on this roster, everybody would draft him. And they draft him fairly high and say, oh, my gosh, he'll figure the Brian Hoyer to Hopkins connection. It'll be Glennon and it'll be Jeffrey.
Andy Holloway
My concern for Kevin White is in no way Mike Glennon related.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah. But the talent is still there, and the reason he hasn't been able to get it done is injury.
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Unknown Speaker
So, I mean, that's. It's a rare situation for a guy to have played so little through the first two years and still be going. But because of his draft capital and as a high first round draft pick, he gets the opportunity he's definitely worth. Ten years ago, two years ago, it was definitely worth a wait and see, 25 years old.
Mike Wright
And if you can't do it, now is the, you know, he has the opportunity to do it. So I'm just saying, like, he's a player.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, it's fair.
Mike Wright
When you talk about Robbie Anderson, this guy's got a lot more talent than Robbie Anderson does. So you have. And he's got a better quarterback throwing in the ball.
Andy Holloway
When he was in last year, he had a.
Mike Wright
He.
Andy Holloway
He had a game of different quarterback, of course, but last year, I mean, nine targets, 14 targets. So, yes, I will concede he is worth a pickup and a stash, but if you play him, you're asking to be sad.
Mike Wright
And yeah, that's probably true.
Unknown Speaker
And I would hold off on Tariq Cohen for now, of course. Just, just. He's a. He's a. Hold, hold. All right, before we get to the next matchup, want to thank today's sponsor draft. The studio sponsor play draft. Look, they are the type of fantasy that you're used to where you get to get together with other people and steal away picks from them instead of just buying guys on a salary. The way that most DFS places run, you actually get to select your guy and no one else gets him. And then you can have strategies involved that we talk about all the time. We talk about it weekly on this show. We're going to actually be drafting against each other, doing this every single week as a lunch bet. So go to playdraft.com ballers and you can use the promo code ballers. You're going to get a real money entry for a real draft for free. And anytime that you make a deposit, your first deposit, you're going to get a free entry to that. So go to playdraft.com ballers there are entries for absolutely everybody's budget. If you want to play one of these games for a dollar, you could play for a dollar. If you want to get in some crazy, you know, super high stakes where you know you could get and win a ton of money, you can do that. So definitely check them out. We love them. I play them all the time.
Mike Wright
Playdraft.com Ballers we also want to thank Pristine Auction. Great friends of the show, great sponsor of the show. Look, you know about Pristine Auction by now, but if you want to join the Patriots in celebrating this super bowl tonight, look, there's a Tom Brady signed Super Bowl 51 full size authentic helmet.
Andy Holloway
Oh my.
Mike Wright
Sitting on the daily auctions right now. It's at $250 right now. Not for long. Yeah, they have, they have a ton of great gear that you can see hundreds of daily auctions every single day. Everything from a Larry Bird jersey if you're an NBA fan to tons of NFL gear, boxing gear. There's a Floyd Mayweather signed glove just sitting there on the daily auctions today. You got to check them out. They're worth, you know, there are a few things we do every day. We wake up in the morning, we get our coffee, we check our email and then you can click that little button that you got in the corner for Pristine Auction. Just see what's up there. See what kind of gear matches what you love and the teams you love. So check them out@pristineauction.com that's P R I S T I N E auction.com youm won't regret it. All right, let's talk about the Steelers. Oh, I'm sorry. Let's talk about the Ravens and the Bengals. Let's talk about the Baltimore Ravens and the Bengals. Bengals at home, three point favorites. I guess I'm a little surprised at that line. I would expect it to be a little bit larger for the Bengals at home. This is a 42 and a half point over under, which maybe explains that a little bit. They're not looking at this game like it'll be a high scoring affair in Vegas. This is a team in Baltimore. We've talked about them earlier when we talked about the tight end situation. They have just been a team that has to throw the ball early and often in these matchups over the last few years. Flacco coming off the injury but healthy will start. They say, as they've been saying, that they want to run the ball more, that they're committing like Greg Roman's there now they're committing to running the ball. Can they do this? Do you have confidence starting West Woodhead?
Andy Holloway
Yes. I mean, I have confidence.
Mike Wright
What is your feeling on the Ravens offense in general?
Andy Holloway
Maybe say that it's cautiously optimistic because I believe in Joe Flacco as a real life quarterback, but the fact he's a real boy, the fact that he is, he hasn't played, he hasn't spent any time with the team really this, this off season except for a couple practices. I mean, that you have some caution.
Mike Wright
Are you going to have the same caution the first week Andrew Luck plays because he hasn't practiced?
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I certainly will. Andrew Luck's a bit of a better quarterback, especially for fantasy purposes, so it might be a little bit of a different situation. But the Ravens are, they're never players that you are overly excited to play. But the upside is real. Danny Woodhead is. He's just, he just sneaks up there to running back. One potential on, on a weekly basis, especially in a ppr. Terrence west is. He's not going to be exciting, but he's just, he's going to be a nice key cog in your offense. Macklin, you know, he, he could be great. We've seen Joe Flacco continuously over target his wide receiver. One, it was Steve Smith. I mean, Kamar Akin took over and was a very usable guy and Jeremy Macklin is still a talented wide receiver. However, we haven't seen anything. So I'm cautiously optimistic, but I'm plugging these guys in.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, I'm much less optimistic in the offense. I do hope that Jeremy Macklin gets the targets and shows that he can, you know, do what he's done because I have him everywhere. He was dropping so late in drafts. I mean, if, if he. Come on, Jeremy. Be a clean piece of cake with the Baltimore Ravens. Outside of that, I mean, if I were Mr. Harbaugh, I feel like you have to run the ball because you're going to win with your defense. I think their defense is still okay. They've got a decent past defense as far as personnel.
Andy Holloway
Their safeties are nasty.
Unknown Speaker
Oh yeah, Weddell. And you know, they've got good cornerbacks, Jimmy Smith and Brandon Carr. So I feel like they're going to try to run the ball and that's good for Terrence West. I think he should be okay in this game. On the other side of the ball.
Mike Wright
For the Bengals, if you drafted Joe Mixon, are you starting Joe Mixon?
Unknown Speaker
It's not the best draft for him, but I do believe he will get enough touches to. I think he has, you know, 12 touches this game. Let's.
Mike Wright
Okay, let's say would you take. Would you rather start Joe Mixon or Terrence west in this game?
Unknown Speaker
That's a great one because I think.
Mike Wright
I'd rather start Terrence west because I just don't know what it's going to look like yet. But a small amount of touches for mixing could mean big things, so.
Andy Holloway
Well, let's say you have Joe Mixon because, I mean, you had to draft him early, but you were wise and you got these, these. The old busted. Allegedly, you know, like the, the not. Not hot guys like Jonathan Stewart, Frank Gore, Robert Kelly and Frank Gore. Are you going to your bench in this case and starting one of those three guys over Joe Mixon?
Mike Wright
Sure. I've got the luxury at that point of guaranteed carries between Robert. I mean, I'd much rather start Robert Kelly against Philadelphia. You've got the guaranteed workload. You get the opportunity to see what you have in Mixon. You didn't draft Mixon. I don't think anybody drafted him to be their RB1, did they? If you drafted it to be RB1, you've made your bed. You sleep in that bed. But if you didn't and you did draft some depth, just wait. What is the upside? He's not going to take over no matter what happens, right? He's not getting 20 carries in this game. Is there any possible way that happens in week one?
Unknown Speaker
No, I don't think there's any possible way, barring an injury to Jeremy Hill, that that happens.
Mike Wright
So it's not happening.
Unknown Speaker
But he could very easily get a 40 yard passing touchdown or, you know, or rushing touchdown.
Mike Wright
Yeah, that's called the Amir Abdullah excitement factor and you just don't. I mean, last year you worried about workload and I'd like to just see it. Yeah, you're starting A.J. green every week. You don't even think about it. Tyler Ifert, roll him out there. Andy Dalton, if you drafted him as a late round quarterback, you're rolling him out there as well. He has at home. If you draft has weapons, if you.
Andy Holloway
Drafted Andy Dalton, because we are, we're all projecting Andy Dalton as a quarterback. One for the entire season. But let's say you're in a 12 teamer. There's quarterbacks available. Carson Palmer is sitting there on the waiver wire, but the guy you would have to drop would be Andy Dalton. Would you make that swap?
Unknown Speaker
Who?
Andy Holloway
For Palmer, who I think all three of us have universally is a better play. But then you may lose out on Dalton.
Mike Wright
No, I would not make that swap.
Unknown Speaker
I would make the swap because I don't believe I'll lose out on Dalton.
Andy Holloway
Okay.
Unknown Speaker
Most. Most leagues, Dalton is still on the waiver wire.
Mike Wright
Yeah. I would only make that swap if I had Andrew Luck on my IR and I was looking for a rental versus a season long because I don't think that. I don't think there's any guarantee that Palmer has a better game than Dalton. It's just a slightly better situation. Steelers, Browns. We have three more matchups and then our starts of the week coming up, the Steelers take on the Browns. Steelers are eight point favorites in Cleveland. 47 point over under. Weather should be good. Welcome to the NFL, Mr. Kaiser.
Andy Holloway
Good luck.
Mike Wright
Good luck. Let's see this game script. What are we predicting? Probably a lead for Pittsburgh. Probably Kaiser taking his lumps in his first NFL game.
Unknown Speaker
Over.
Andy Holloway
Under 21 carries for Le'Veon Bell.
Mike Wright
Over.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, I'll definitely take the over.
Mike Wright
Take 20, 24 carries somewhere around there. And you've got Isaiah Cruel, somebody that we're pretty optimistic about. The Steelers are real middle of the road and have been on defense, but I think this defense can be really good this year and this is just a tough matchup for Kaiser to come out. He is at home, but the Steelers look like one of the best defense plays of the week because, look, rookies make mistakes. They make mistakes and so yeah, he may. It's just going to be trouble. It's going to be.
Andy Holloway
And are you confident starting Crow well in this game?
Mike Wright
Yes, I'm confident starting Crow in this game for sure. Even at home against a divisional game against the middle of the road run defense, I think he's involved.
Andy Holloway
They improved steadily over the second half.
Mike Wright
What are you going to do with Crowell? You drafted him to start.
Andy Holloway
I know, I know. What I'm just saying. Like, do you have confidence? Especially since we're all projecting the Steelers to get to a big lead quickly?
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, yeah, I would. I've got Crowell as an RB1 this week. It's not to say that he will, but I've got confidence to start him.
Mike Wright
Yep, me too. Duke Johnson, you starting him in A situation?
Unknown Speaker
No. If you're in a PPR league, they're going to be down. I'm surprised that the Steelers are only favored by eight points in this game.
Mike Wright
Brett.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Britain Coleman, the depth plays. I'm going to let him sit this week.
Mike Wright
All right. Anything on the Pittsburgh side we want to discuss? Martavis Bryant, Antonio Brown, Lev Bell, Big Ben. Those are the only guys you're messing with in fantasy, right?
Andy Holloway
Absolutely.
Mike Wright
Not Messing with the tight ends?
Andy Holloway
Nope.
Unknown Speaker
All right, Keeping an eye on them, though.
Mike Wright
Let's talk about that Palmer matchup. The Cardinals travel to Detroit. The Lions are 1 1/2 point underdogs at home against Arizona, 48 point over under. Look, we know the storyline here. You're rolling out your big gun. David Johnson, Amir Abdullah, I feel pretty confident starting him in this game. The Cardinals, while they were the 9th best run D last year, it's. They don't have class Campbell anymore in the middle of that defensive line.
Andy Holloway
Buchanan will miss game one.
Mike Wright
Buchanan will miss game one. And they did not look like they were. They were gelling in the run defense in the preseason. From the limited time that we got to see them, we all know the secondary is going to be very good. I wouldn't feel confident. Like we've talked a lot about Marvin Jones and how excited we are about, hey, maybe he's a bounce back guy. This is a week where this is.
Unknown Speaker
Not the game for him. No.
Mike Wright
I mean he's going to be matched up with Patrick Peterson all night long, so. Or all morning long. So where, where else do we feel confident on the Detroit side of the ball? Mike, I know you like Abdullah, but is there anybody else on that side that you're really thinking I'll still play.
Andy Holloway
Golden Tate with, with full confidence because I think he can. What his role on the offense is. He'll be, he'll be able to get some, some things done. You know, just those short routes, playing out of the slot. You know, it's quick hit. Maybe he gets a nice yard, some, some nice yards after catch. We've seen that in his past. But. So it's, it's not a, like this isn't an upside play where Tate can be an upside play certain weeks. But I, the Cardinals passing defense is going to be legit and legit scary for fantasy purposes.
Mike Wright
All right, so I've heard some, some shade thrown Larry Fitzgerald's way.
Andy Holloway
Shade.
Mike Wright
I've heard shade. Yeah, you can do that if you, if you listen. Like if you listen closely, you can actually hear shade when, when you're referring to what analysts are saying about certain players and they're saying that Larry Fitzgerald is old and they're saying Larry Fitzgerald.
Andy Holloway
Well, he is.
Mike Wright
I heard a bold claim that Larry would finish outside the top 40 in a PPR format just the other day.
Unknown Speaker
How come are in this game for the season? Well, okay, that makes a lot more sense because this game is great for Larry Fitzgerald. I am as confident as possible to start Larry, especially if it was a ppr. I think that's where they're going to be going with the ball in the passing game is Larry. And I don't think the people want.
Andy Holloway
To know about John Brown.
Mike Wright
They don't care about sneaky start this week.
Andy Holloway
John Brown says he's ready to play.
Unknown Speaker
Are you saying is John Brown a sneaky start?
Mike Wright
I am asking that question.
Unknown Speaker
He would be sneaky. I mean, I don't think most people would be doing it if you were.
Mike Wright
Facing a John Brown, Duke Johnson flex play decision. You would start.
Unknown Speaker
I would start in that situation. John Brown.
Mike Wright
As would I. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
It was higher touchdown probability.
Mike Wright
Okay. And we'll talk about Carson Palmer very shortly. He's my start of the week and.
Andy Holloway
We glossed over Riddick. Are you, are you confident?
Mike Wright
I've been asked a lot about Riddick this week and my. I kind of said I want to see what this office looks like with a healthy Abdullah because I just don't know if. If we're going to see enough snaps for Riddick to be confident. That was another question. Somebody said, look, you know, would you start Theo Riddick or would you start Adam Thielen this week? I said, well, I'd go. I'd go with Adam Thielen because I just, I don't know. I know Riddick will be on the field. I just don't know what it look if he'll be the new Duke Johnson there and you're hooked where you're not. You don't have enough opportunities.
Andy Holloway
Nice, Jay.
Unknown Speaker
Thank you.
Andy Holloway
I thought it was kind of interesting.
Unknown Speaker
He was listed as the co starter with Abdullah.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I don't know if that means anything, but. Well, being a starting running back for the Lions means hasn't meant a lot for fantasy owners the last couple of years. So, yeah, it'll be interesting to see Riddick still has value. I'm not saying that he doesn't have value. I just. I kind of want to see it. And I figure where you drafted Riddick, you're not in a position where you're stuck.
Andy Holloway
Fair.
Mike Wright
All right. Jaguars, Texans.
Unknown Speaker
This is the lowest over, under of the week.
Mike Wright
Did you just change that?
Unknown Speaker
Nope.
Andy Holloway
I told you it was lower.
Mike Wright
When I scrolled down, it said 40. But maybe, maybe I was looking at a different game. All right, 39 and a half over under. This game is going to be so exciting. Tom Savage, Blake Bortles. I'm not starting Bortles against the Texans. D. Leonard Fournette. If you drafted him to start him, you got to start him. I think he's on the field. Lamar Miller, you got to start him. This is much more of those you got to start him situations.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, I mean, you're going to have to start those guys. The. Do you feel like you have to start DeAndre Hopkins as well?
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Mike Wright
You drafted the Texans.
Andy Holloway
Okay, try and think of a scenario. So you got Hopkins in the fourth or whatever. I mean, you probably didn't. You had to pay up a little bit more. But these guys that, these wide receivers that you're taking flyers on, are you going to start a flyer?
Mike Wright
No, you're not. Week one, this is what Mike's advice was exactly. Week one, you start the guys you drafted to start and you just learn.
Unknown Speaker
I guess I'm coming for just. I'm coming for from a place where I never drafted Hopkins because I didn't see him as a stud that would. That I would start in these type of matchups.
Mike Wright
Guess what this is.
Unknown Speaker
Oh.
Jason Moore
Andy's almost upset of the week.
Unknown Speaker
I forgot about these.
Mike Wright
The Texans are five and a half point favorites. Get ready. Get ready to see one of the lowest scoring games of the year. And you're going to see Jacksonville come out on top in this one. That's what I believe.
Unknown Speaker
So that's a full upset.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
I mean, they're going to lose by one.
Unknown Speaker
There you go.
Mike Wright
I think it's going to be a really close game. Look, the Jack. Jacksonville's defense on paper is great. Look, last year against the past, they were fifth best. You have Tom Savage. I mean, this is going to be a grinded out type of game you're going to need. I mean, it might be the defense that makes the most plays that wins this game. I think it's going to be close.
Andy Holloway
I think it's going to be gross.
Unknown Speaker
How many quarters until we see Watson.
Andy Holloway
Savage plays the whole game.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Mike Wright
All right. All right, guys, it's time to move on. One of our favorite segments of the week. Here we go.
Jason Moore
Starts of the week.
Mike Wright
It's good to hear these drops again, Mike.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, it feels good.
Mike Wright
Get you on that guitar.
Andy Holloway
Chicken noodle soup. For the soul.
Unknown Speaker
Why don't you kick us off there, Mike?
Andy Holloway
Oh, well, don't mind if I do. My quarterback start of the week, Marcus Mariota.
Unknown Speaker
Love it.
Mike Wright
Newly rostered in our league of record.
Andy Holloway
Really?
Mike Wright
By me.
Andy Holloway
That's a great pickup.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Because I would rather play him over Palmer, who I believe that you had. And why? Because he's at home. He's playing the Raiders. We have seen. The Raiders defense has not improved from last season.
Mike Wright
From.
Andy Holloway
From what we have seen in the preseason, the over under is over 50 points. Eric Decker is going to play. I mean, Decker and Rashard Matthews with Mariota is. It could be devastating in the right matchup.
Mike Wright
It's really. And I'm not doubting your start of the week, but one of the only games that Mariota struggled with last year was at home against Oakland.
Andy Holloway
I'm not scared.
Mike Wright
Okay. He put up five fantasy points in that game. Two interceptions and a fumble.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, well, it's not happening again. Mariota is going to roll and I love him in this opening week.
Mike Wright
Look, my start of the week at the quarterback position is Carson Palmer. He's somebody I drafted as my stomp gap for Andrew Luck. It's a great Week 1 matchup. He gets those free points out of the backfield with all those David Johnson targets. And Detroit gave up an average of 25 and a half fantasy points per game to the quarterback last year. Right now John Brown is healthy. So I like Palmer to have a great game in week one.
Unknown Speaker
Okay, so you have Palmer and you have Mario. I know the people want to know who are you starting?
Mike Wright
I just looked at it and that's why I saw Mariota had a bad game against Oakland last year.
Unknown Speaker
I'll talk about Tyrod Taylor and then we're coming back to see who Andy starts in week one. Tyrod Taylor is my start of the week. The reason that I'm picking him is basically twofold. One, he is coming off the concussion and the injury. You weren't even sure if he was confident.
Mike Wright
That's why you're picking.
Andy Holloway
No, it's a confidence.
Unknown Speaker
It's a confidence play to tell people it's okay to play him.
Mike Wright
Gotcha.
Unknown Speaker
And then the other reason is because he's playing the jets. And so if he wants to run, he'll be able to. But if he wants to pass the ball, I think he'll be able to.
Andy Holloway
How much analysis this year is going to be?
Unknown Speaker
The Jets.
Andy Holloway
They're playing the Jets.
Unknown Speaker
Look, this is. This is.
Andy Holloway
No stats needed.
Unknown Speaker
You're going to have those type of things. Just like last year, if you were a tight end, we, you know, almost every week you'd have a start of the week or a stream of the week against the Cleveland Browns there.
Mike Wright
I've talked to jets fans.
Unknown Speaker
Be worth it.
Mike Wright
I've talked to Buffalo fans. They're normally eternal optimists. And they both know what's going to happen this year. Yeah, they both accepted it. They're both ready to rebuild.
Unknown Speaker
The point is that there will be points scored. I know it seems like there won't, but there will be point points, plural, scored by the Buffalo Bills. And they will all involve, in some way Tyrod Taylor. Oh, man. All right, Andy, who are you starting?
Mike Wright
Well, here's the two things I'm thinking of, and then I'll tell you who I'm starting. Carson on the road, week one versus Mariota at home. I'll tell you on Sunday. I don't know. I'm going to be going down to the wire with that one.
Andy Holloway
All right.
Mike Wright
I should go with my start of the week probably, though. Carson Palmer. All right, let's talk about running backs. Mike, who's your running backs out of the week?
Andy Holloway
My running back. And this is like Jason's confidence play of Tyrod. I'm going Amir Abdullah.
Mike Wright
So what you're doing is you're giving confidence to the listeners that they can start these guys in their lineup.
Andy Holloway
Exactly. And because people have. I mean, I love Abdullah season long, but I get it. You. You have a mirror. You're plugging him into your lineup and going, oh, crap, he's playing against the Cardinals. Maybe I don't want to do this. The Cardinals run defense is leaky. It.
Unknown Speaker
I.
Mike Wright
It's big play. Leaky.
Andy Holloway
Exactly. And I. So I have confidence playing Amir Abdullah. And on top of. I mean, he's a dual threat. He can't get game scripted out. But I believe that he will have success on the ground because the Cardinals did not address the loss of Calais Campbell, which is. It's a huge loss for this defensive line.
Mike Wright
I think that they believe they have the replacement in Robert Kandechi.
Andy Holloway
Sure, they can think that, but I.
Unknown Speaker
Mean, I think for the running game, Dale Buchanan is really the one.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. And Buchanan is also what we talked about. He will be missing week one. So I'm just saying I have confidence plugging Abdullah in this.
Mike Wright
I'll get mine out of the way because I know we're going to talk about Jason's for a little while. Mine is Christian McCaffrey. I think he's got the opposite situation of Leonard Fournette in Week 1, where his matchup coming out of the gate as a rookie is great. San Francisco ended the year the worst against the run. They struggled. Christian McCaffrey is just a weapon in every sense of the word out of the backfield. I think he's going to have opportunities early and often against San Francisco to kind of look, welcome to the NFL. Christian McCaffrey. Let's roll them out there. Week one.
Unknown Speaker
Man, I tell you what a gift coming into the NFL. And it's like, hey, game one, we're giving you the Niners. That's three.
Andy Holloway
It's like a warm up.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah. All right. Yeah. My, my start of the week here at the running back position is one where I'm going to make the case to start tonight. Mike Gillislee. The Patriots are at home. They are heavily favored. They have the largest implied point total of every team in the league this week from Vegas. So Vegas is saying, look, the Patriots are going to score more points than anyone else this week. They're at home. And those two things, when those happen together at home, favored. And the teams that win, the running backs on those teams are usually predictably good at fantasy football. So will it be Gillislee? Will it be Rex Burkhead? Will it be whoever. I believe strongly that Gillis Lee is two things. He is their goal lineback. I think he'll, he'll be the guy used most frequently as their goal line back. And I think he's going to be the back they use to run the clock. And this is the type of game where if you can't start him. And look, if I get the argument to say, well, I want to wait and see. Sure. But I believe you're going to miss a great opportunity tonight because what are you waiting for if you're not waiting for a huge, you know, home favored opportunity?
Mike Wright
Nice. All right, Mike. Wide receiver.
Andy Holloway
I'm going. Devonte Adams.
Mike Wright
Oh, my gosh.
Andy Holloway
And this, it sounds, it sounds terrifying because they're taking on the Seahawks. But the over under on this game is also really high. And last year, Devonte Adams dropped 104 and a touchdown on the Seahawks. So I think that the attention will be put on to Jordy Nelson and that Devonte Adams is a.
Mike Wright
That's just. There are some things I don't do in my life and picking.
Andy Holloway
You don't spit into the wind.
Mike Wright
Yeah. And I don't pick a wide receiver against the Seattle Seahawks, certainly one that I'm not high on. I'm going to just vocal vocalize my opposition to start of the weekend. I'm going to go with Terrell Pryor. Terrell Pryor against the Philadelphia Eagles. Look, this is all about matchups here. The Eagles last year against Washington, in two matchups, they gave up 38 points and 30 points against the wide receivers on the Washington Redskins. This is a matchup with Jalen Mills, probably the Eagles worst cornerback. He doesn't grade out very well on Pro Football Focus. Maybe he's made the jump up. Maybe a lot of people think Jalen Mills this year he's going to be better. Well, look, you get, you get a really big boy in week one. And I think Terrell Pryor will take advantage of that matchup. And I think this is much like the two times you guys have mentioned it. People want confidence. Starting Terrell Pryor, new location, new offense. I think week one is a good matchup for him. I'm going with Terrell Pryor in week one.
Unknown Speaker
I'll hop in on the wide receiver with Michael Crabtree.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, baby.
Unknown Speaker
That's. That's Mike's usual guy and really it's pairing with Marcus Mariota. I do think that the Oakland Raiders defense, especially their past defense, is not going to be good. It's the second highest implied point total by Vegas this, this week. And I think that what they are going to be focused on is going to be Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree often.
Andy Holloway
So you're going to pair him with Derek Carr.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, or. Same game, high score, same game.
Andy Holloway
I thought you were going to get there, but then you never returned.
Unknown Speaker
But I think that Michael Crabtree gets touchdown in this game. He usually gets off to, you know, a solid start. Solid start to the season. I've got him ranked one spot ahead of Cooper for this game.
Mike Wright
All right, let's go to the tight end. Mike, I love your pick here. It's not devonte Adams.
Andy Holloway
No, it is.
Unknown Speaker
I love your pick, too. I hate both, both of you very much. Because there are two tight ends that I wanted as my start of the week. I wanted them bad and I got third pick. And so I would just like to endorse both of your play.
Mike Wright
Thank you.
Andy Holloway
Well, appreciate it.
Mike Wright
I hate you too, by the way.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
The jets were the 10th worst team giving up tight end fantasy points last year. So that's why I'm putting my confidence into Charles Clay, who is it seemingly emerged as the top target for the Buffalo passing offense. I know Jordan Matthews is back, but how effective can he be with with the the cracked the chip in the sternum. I mean that with that pain tolerance with very little experience running this offense. I mean the only one who really has experience as a pass catcher here is Charles Clay. And it showed in the preseason that that's who they were going to. They were just feeding him.
Mike Wright
When you look at my season long rankings, the biggest disparity from the normal out there in experts Charles Clay I have much higher and I just like what you said and my guy is very similar in an argument I go with Zach Ertz this week against Washington in that matchup you talk about what player in the passing offense has familiar familiarity with Carson Wentz and with that offense. Look, it's not Alshon Jeffrey or Torrey Smith. They're brand new. It's not Mac Hollins who's brand new.
Andy Holloway
Nelson Aguilar is not used to playing.
Mike Wright
He doesn't know what he's doing. And look Zach ers last year 10 catches against Washington to end the year. They struggled against the tight end. Zachary is the one consistent piece of the passing offense. So I think he's a really reliable week one start.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, I like both of those. Mine here's where I was pairing with.
Andy Holloway
There we go.
Unknown Speaker
I got there was Delaney Walker. Delaney Walker. This game I think is going to be high scoring. It's going to be a fun affair. I want pieces in it. But I do need to have another honorary start of the week because I've done this the last few seasons and it has always paid off. Dwayne Allen, you know he scores a touchdown every opening game of his entire career. This is five straight years where in game in his first game of the season he scores a touchdown. So look for it tonight. Maybe he makes it six. That's insane.
Mike Wright
All right, well those were our starts of the week by the way. Mariota. After this Oakland matchup at Jacksonville, Seattle, Houston. Use them while you can. That's why I didn't draft him. That's why I drafted Carson Palmer. Is I just like Carson goes to Indianapolis, then Dallas, then San Francisco. Secondaries that are delicious.
Andy Holloway
I like the second one.
Mike Wright
Okay, well you know look every, every single Thursday.
Andy Holloway
Oh, get ready.
Mike Wright
It leads up to one moment and here it is.
Jason Moore
Jason Moore's ironclad, locked and loaded, 100% guaranteed boom boom kicker of the week.
Mike Wright
No position more important than kickers. Jason. Jason always says that.
Andy Holloway
Resident kicker expert.
Unknown Speaker
I love kickers.
Andy Holloway
Jason Moore.
Unknown Speaker
All right. My ironclad locked and loaded of 100% guaranteed boom boom kicker of the week is none other than Matt Bryant of the Atlanta Falcons. Because Chicago last year was 28th worst or 28th best, I should say. They were. They were terrible against the kicker position. The reality is Atlanta is going to be able to move the ball on him. But due to the Atlanta touchdown regression that I am calling for, they're going to be kickers of field goals.
Mike Wright
I love that. At least you use the boom boom kicker of the week segment to work your other season long narratives into the equation.
Andy Holloway
Actually put analysis into this section.
Mike Wright
Sh.
Unknown Speaker
No, you.
Andy Holloway
You did.
Unknown Speaker
You know I didn't. I would not do that.
Andy Holloway
You thought about kickers.
Unknown Speaker
I would never do that. How dare you. Mike.
Andy Holloway
Check the tape.
Mike Wright
Check the tape. Oh, my goodness. All right, Matt Bryant. I think everybody who has them will start him. That's good. Good call. Nice. Ironclad, locked and loaded. 100% guaranteed. Look. That is it for today's episode. We'll be back with more matchups tomorrow. We all have in and out and we'll do a live basketball draft or, I'm sorry, a live play draft.

"Danny Woodhead is just a sneaky up there to running back. One potential on a weekly basis." [22:57]
Cardinals vs. Lions: Emphasized Carson Palmer's favorable matchup and the Bears' secondary's weaknesses.
"I'm as confident as possible to start Larry, especially if it was a PPR." [28:10]
Jaguars vs. Texans: Predicted a low-scoring game with Jacksonville edging out Texans.
