Jason Moore
Ah, welcome in.
Mike Wright
Oh, there's freedom. There's freedom in this room right now.
Jason Moore
It's about time.
Mike Wright
Ah, I missed you, Jay.
Jason Moore
Well, apparently Mike is incapacitated. He is at home with a little bit of the throw ups, a little bit of tummy trouble, a little bit of the pukes. So he gets all those tattoos.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Jason Moore
Wild and crazy, kids. Welcome into the podcast, dad. Yeah, that's what dad say. My long hair tattoos.
Mike Wright
Must be homeless.
Jason Moore
Must be. Yeah. All right. We have a show. We're doing a show regardless of Mike's presence.
Mike Wright
Probably a much better show.
Jason Moore
Probably.
Mike Wright
I mean, just, you know, the.
Jason Moore
The grizzly may have to carry the show.
Mike Wright
I think he's got it.
Jason Moore
Welcome in. Hopefully you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. It is Tuesday, May 29th. Today we have a great quick question. We have a game. We're gonna play a little game.
Mike Wright
A game of this or that.
Jason Moore
Yeah. And we're gonna answer some questions. So we'll get you ready. We'll get you right for 2018. I'm excited. The Ultimate Draft gets coming out just Friday moments away.
Mike Wright
We are days away from being able to sit wherever you want and just pour through the endless content in the Ultimate Draft.
Jason Moore
People are already on the page, just refreshing. That's what I understand. Yeah. Just clicking the button. All right, quick question of the day. Who have you been changing your opinion on lately? I mean, the off season, it progresses and things change. We are water. We are not stone. Right. We try to stay up to date with what's going on and morph our opinions. You know, you don't want to be locked into something that you believe early in the offseason, and all the information points you a different direction. And then because of stubbornness, you just stay there. So who's your opinion changing on, Jason?
Mike Wright
Yeah, I love this question because I think that it's such a bad approach to as an analyst. You know, pick the guys you like or you don't like and just hold firm. Ironically, after saying that this is a guy who I have changed back to my original opinion.
Jason Moore
Oh, it's an Amari Cooper situation.
Mike Wright
Yes, it is. It's one of those back and forth, you know, flippy, floppy, flippy flop. I got my flippy floppies on right now.
Jason Moore
Okay, so who's per usual? What's the flip? What's the flop?
Mike Wright
It's Royce Freeman. So Royce Freeman has really truly been one of those ping pong players for me. Pre draft. Didn't like him, didn't really love the tape. After the draft I thought he went to the one of the best situations. I assumed that they were going to by the time that week one rolls around, plug him in as the C.J. anderson role, he would be the absolute starter. Devonta Booker's both not good enough nor deserving enough I think to really encroach on those numbers. And as time went on I kind of cooled on my original stats and recently I've been watching more film. Spent some time even this last weekend on my anniversary weekend watching some Royce Freeman film and I, I do believe he will get that role. I think their offensive line is better and one of the most There's a lot of stats everywhere with fantasy football. Some are far more telling than others as far as predictability. And one of my favorite things to look at for rookie running back success is weight adjusted speed and I think Freeman has a good enough score. I think he's somewhere above the 85th percentile in that I think he'll get the role. I have him right now locked in as an RB2 and he's going late in draft. So I like Royce Freeman as of right now. Rookie running back for the Denver Broncos.
Jason Moore
Yeah, the Broncos are one of those teams this offseason that I think there are a lot of question marks about, you know, you have certain offenses that you kind of know what's going to happen. There are split opinions about Case Keenum, what he is, what he brings to Emmanuel Sanders and Demarius Thomas, whether Case Keenum himself is going to be a sleeper in the fantasy world. And then there's question marks around Devonte Booker and Royce Freeman I do believe will have that role as well. It's interesting that your opinion is changing mine. See, Mike's not here, so maybe this is the right time to say Kareem Hunt is the answer for me. And I want to explain this because no one.
Mike Wright
Tell Mike.
Jason Moore
Yeah, don't tell Mike that. I like Cream Hunt a little bit more today than I did yesterday. But no, I. I have just been following and reaching out to some of the beat writers in Kansas City and trying to get a real gauge on the mysterious situation behind Spencer Ware's injury. And a lot of my argument for why I believe Cream Hunt doesn't belong in the upper echelon of fantasy running backs like in Alvin Camara has been based on the historical success of Spencer Ware. The fact that last season, the Chiefs went into the season hoping to split that backfield up. Spencer Ware has been great. He's only 26 years old, but he's still not out there at OTAs. And the injury that he suffered is somewhat unique. If you watch press conferences, he's very. It's kind of his personality anyway, but he's just kind of subdued about getting back on the field, about the running back room. And then you start putting the pieces together in Kansas City, where they went out and they brought in the Williams brothers, Kerwin Williams, not really the brothers, but the. The pair of Damian Williams and Kerwin Williams. And you know, you look at Kerwin Williams, he signed so early in the off season, you're like, well, you had a chance to show a little bit of something in Arizona last year. Why'd he go to Kansas City? I just think that there is a little bit more doubt in my mind about Spencer Ware's health. And if Spencer wear is not available or not the same, then it is very firmly Kareem Hunt's backfield. It is very firm. It is much more in that 65, 45 split. Yes. They'll use other backs.
Mike Wright
You see a healthy Spencer Ware as greater sign than the Williams brothers.
Jason Moore
Yes. Gotcha. And I think he just from a. What he's established in the past and how Andy Reid thinks of him, I think he would have had a great opportunity, would have a great opportunity if he's healthy. And he could still be healthy. But there has been some doubt put in my mind about his health and whether he can, you know, return to form and how much work they're going to give him. So I adjust to Kareem Hunt a little bit in my rankings. He's still not in the top, you know, the top five range, but he's in that five to 10 range. And I think we'll all as fantasy owners need to watch the progression of Spencer Ware as we determine what Kareem Hunt's future is going to be. From a workload perspective in Kansas City.
Mike Wright
So Kareem Hunt's very interesting, I think. Very polarizing to a lot of people. They're either. They really assume that he's going to be the bust this year, or they're like, what are you doing? Not putting him in the top 10.
Jason Moore
Yeah. I mean, this is the. This is what?
Mike Wright
For the record, I've got him 12 right now. Yeah.
Jason Moore
I think I have them at 10. So I think what's crazy, and we all know this, is if you stray away from a consensus opinion on a player in the off season, then people are flabbergasted. People are surprised. They don't understand the logic. And yet every single season, you have a handful of players that are clearly not going to be what they were the year before. You don't just reprint the same statistical outlook. So you have to.
Mike Wright
I think this year might. This year might be the year.
Jason Moore
Oh.
Mike Wright
Where everybody's exactly the same as last year. That's why I'm waiting for it.
Jason Moore
That's why I keep Eddie Lacy on my team.
Mike Wright
Oh, he's.
Jason Moore
Because I know that season's coming again.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Jason Moore
All right. You can find us on YouTube. Make sure you subscribe. Watch over there, you can see Jay Grizz hanging out in the studio. Follow us on twitter@the ff ballers, the website's fantasy footballers dot com. Should I ask why you're grinning so much, Jason? Is there a reason?
Mike Wright
There is. So what am I. What's.
Jason Moore
Do I have something on my face?
Mike Wright
We always encourage people to go to YouTube. You know, we never know when we meet a fan. You know, do you watch or do you listen? Sure. And, you know, the people that do both, they say, oh, man, I'm so happy that I started watching on YouTube. But it was ironic because we just added this great new camera angle to our studio. Kind of a very. You get to see a little bit more.
Jason Moore
Some people believe that Brooks is holding a camera and walking slowly.
Mike Wright
Still believe it. I mean, it's clear. That's what's happening. He wears a helmet on his helmet. Yeah, a camera helmet.
Jason Moore
Oh, okay.
Mike Wright
That's how they do the pros. It makes me laugh because when you said, go to YouTube and look at Jay Grizz, at that moment, we had the new angle that showed Jay Grizz as basically a profile. Cardboard cutout.
Jason Moore
No.
Mike Wright
How.
Jason Moore
What?
Mike Wright
I apologize.
Jason Moore
Jay, can a cardboard cutout make that.
Mike Wright
Sound over and over and no other sounds but that.
Jason Moore
It's an optical illusion. You know how they say the camera adds 10 pounds for him subtracts about 400 pounds.
Mike Wright
Did we give out Jay Grizz's Twitter handle?
Jason Moore
No, we didn't give it out.
Mike Wright
Rude.
Jason Moore
You don't even remember it.
Mike Wright
It's Jay Grizzffl.
Jason Moore
Brooks is nodding.
Mike Wright
Brooks?
Jason Moore
Yeah. That's what you think of him. You've now called him cardboard, which is an insult to Grizzlies everywhere. Ridiculous.
Mike Wright
I promoted his Twitter. It is. I was correct. J. Grizz. FFL.
Jason Moore
Okay, thank you, onesie. Yeah, that's important. Footclangiveaway.com we're giving away a signed Le'Veon Bell jersey and a signed Alvin Camara football. That giveaway ends very soon, so go get in on that. It's free to enter and we give you free stuff. It's fun. And don't forget to check out ballerslive.com We've got the show coming up. A live fantasy for the people tour presented by draft. Our show going to Minneapolis, Dallas, Philadelphia, New York and Phoenix so you can get your tickets there before they're sold out. Ballerslive.com not a lot of news to get into. In fact, none. So we're going to go right into the game.
Andy Holloway
I want to play a game.
Jason Moore
That is Mike's favorite drop and he's not here.
Mike Wright
It's ridiculous.
Jason Moore
It's very funny. So we are going to take a look at some players that have a similar adp, that's average draft position, and we're going to play this or that. It's very. It's very simple. You choose one of them. Who would you go with? Why would you go with them?
Mike Wright
And the truth is, a lot of times comparable players, comparable players at a comparable spot in adp. So for some of these players, you are going to have to pick one. You're not going to get both because they're going to be going in the exact same round. So you're going to have to choose.
Jason Moore
Hey, I think that would be fair. You're never going to get. It's rare if you ever get both of these.
Mike Wright
There is. Yeah, there's probably two of these in the list that I think you might be able to get both of. But yes, for the most part, you're not getting both.
Jason Moore
All right, interesting one. This or that? Dion Lewis, running back for the Tennessee Titans. Sony Michelle, New England Patriot rookie. They're going very similarly based.
Mike Wright
So today on Lewis of last year.
Jason Moore
I was gonna say today's average draft position is brought to you by the draft ADP. So this is the best ball ADP. Yeah, the most recent. Accurate.
Mike Wright
Everybody is playing with us draft.comballers.
Jason Moore
That'S true. Right now, the average draft position of Dion Lewis is 45 overall. The average draft position of Sonny Michelle is 52 overall. This or that. Jason, who would you rather have for your roster, Sony Michelle or Dion Lewis?
Mike Wright
I'm going to take the vacated Dion Lewis role that Sony Michelle is entering into. I think Sony Michelle, he has. There's question marks. I feel for both of these players. I'm more scared of Dion Lewis injuries than I am of Sony Michelle's fumbles. But I just can't believe that the Patriots, such a smart team would spend up a first round pick unless prior to selecting that player they had a role carved out for him and said our team with this player in this role, this is what our team needs for 2018. Were willing to give that first round draft pick on Sony Michelle. He wasn't my favorite in college film, but he was. I know a lot of people, he's their favorite.
Jason Moore
Mike's favorite.
Mike Wright
Yeah. So yeah, outside of Saquon, I would take Sony Michelle, who I believe is going to have every opportunity to be the first down, the second down and could be a third down back for New England versus Dion Lewis. His injury history. Who is more of the, you know, he. I don't think he's going to take over for Derek Henry.
Jason Moore
Yeah, if Derek Henry went down, as in not available, Deion Lewis would be a top 12, top 10 guy for sure. I technically have Dion Lewis at 20 in my rankings and Sonny Michelle at 22, but I see the range of outcomes between these players to be far different. And so for me, this would be a decision I would make based on what I'm hoping for from the player. I think Deion Lewis will very comfortably fit your RB2 spot. And I don't think that the week to week changes from Dion Lewis. You know, Dion Lewis is going to be on the field whether they're ahead, whether they're behind. He was signed to play. He's going to, you know, he's not going to be used around the goal line probably like Derek Henry, but he's a comfortable RB2. Sony Michelle is probably who I draft 9 times out of 10 between the two, despite the fact that I have one projected for slightly higher points on the year.
Mike Wright
But you wouldn't be as comfortable with Michelle as your second running back. Is that what I'm hearing? Because consistency.
Jason Moore
Yeah. I would depend a little on the rest of my roster. I would think that like there are various outcomes for Michelle. He could be what you said. First, second down, get in there. On third down. They could also fall in love with Rex Burkhead. Burkhead could stay healthy. Burkhead could take more carries than we expect or believe. We've seen the backfield in New England. Sonny Michelle can fumble, put himself in the doghouse. Really bad split backfield. James White's still going to get time on the field. So potential. I think Sonny Michelle's potential is all the way from a low end RB1 to a not excited to start RB3.
Mike Wright
Sure.
Jason Moore
So I think I always have to.
Mike Wright
Deal with the Patriots conundrum of he gets 20 carries in week one and week two. You come out and he gets five carries.
Jason Moore
And I love the big play potential of Sonny Michelle, but it would. Yeah, I think nine times out of 10 I would take him because I want the back end RB1 potential versus Dion Lewis.
Mike Wright
But that 10th time is going to mean that I took Sony Michelle and you took Dion Lewis.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Mike Wright
All right.
Jason Moore
Yeah. All right, let's move on this or that. By the way, Jay Grizz, he went with Jordan Howard. Yeah, I don't. It wasn't an option. Stefan Diggs versus Josh Gordon.
Mike Wright
Oh, this is a good one.
Jason Moore
Yeah, it's an interesting one, too. I mean, both players will not have the same quarterback throwing them the ball that they did last season. Detron Kizer is gone.
Mike Wright
That's true.
Jason Moore
You have.
Mike Wright
One of these players will not have the same quarterback throwing them the ball all season this year.
Jason Moore
That. That could be true too. You're talking about Josh Gordon. I am talking about the likelihood of a Tyrod Taylor Baker Mayfield quarterback change at some point.
Mike Wright
Yes.
Jason Moore
Now. Right now their average draft position is back to back.
Mike Wright
I love it because one of these guys I am happy to have on my team and one of these guys I'm scared to have on my team.
Jason Moore
39 and 40 overall. I've got Josh Gordon five spots ahead. You've got Stefan Diggs six spots ahead. Why do you like Diggs?
Mike Wright
Yeah, I have Stefan Diggs. I think far higher than that. Probably 13 point.
Jason Moore
Oh, sorry. That was the consensus. Yeah, that is our consensus. Right.
Mike Wright
Diggs at 14 and Josh Gordon at 33.
Jason Moore
Wow.
Mike Wright
Yeah. So obviously we're on different sides.
Jason Moore
Why do you hate Josh Gordon?
Mike Wright
The reason I.
Jason Moore
More of the question than why do you love Stefan Diggs?
Mike Wright
That is. That is actually, I think, more accurate because both players are extremely talented. The range of outcomes for Josh Gordon, we've already seen him finish as the wide receiver one. And I believe when he did that was only in a 14 game season. He's a beast. He's a stud. I think he pairs up with Tyrod Taylor pretty well. And you know, Baker Mayfield coming in as the number one pick, a lot of people's favorite college quarterback in a while, super highly accurate guy. But to me, there are too many question marks with the Browns. Okay, so Baker comes in, which he will. I know you still are on, you know, the belief in Hugh Jackson that maybe Tyrod will actually start the season. But I believe Baker will come in and when he does, his accuracy, I think it benefits Jarvis Landry more than Josh Gordon. But you don't even know. Even with Tyrod there, with Jarvis Landry, with Duke Johnson, with Corey Coleman, with Josh Gordon, when Josh Gordon did it all and was a superstar fantasy option, he was it. There was no one else worth even thinking about throwing the ball to. Similar to what we saw from the dumpster fire two years ago in Cleveland when he wasn't a dumpster fire, Terrell Pryor. So to me, Josh Gordon's not going to get the target volume to be a stud. And I, you know, Stefon Diggs, when he's been healthy, he's been a very valuable player. I would rather have the consistency, even though I think the ceiling. If all you're saying is which player can finish higher, it's probably Gordon.
Jason Moore
Okay. All right. I'd love to get Brooks to weigh in on these as well. So, Brooks, prepare yourself an answer.
Mike Wright
Put that judge robe on.
Jason Moore
I'm not sure I understand the logic behind discounting Gordon because of Baker. I feel like the strongest, most compelling argument against Josh Gordon is that Tyra Taylor throws for 3,000 yards instead of four or 5,000. And you want Tyrod in there if you want to discount Josh Gordon. Because if you put a player that doesn't run the ball, I mean, Baker Mayfield's not going to run like Tyrod Taylor does when the pocket breaks down. He's going to be trying to stay in there and make the throw. I feel like that only benefits a guy like Josh Gordon. And Gordon last year, 18 point something per catch. It doesn't take target volume. It takes, you know, could be a 60, 70 reception season. I still think he could outperform Diggs. And then you don't have, I mean, you've got different question marks. Obviously, the Browns are the problem there. I'd go with Gordon.
Mike Wright
Yeah. My argument there with the Tyrod Taylor. Yeah, he might only throw for 3,000 yards. But we saw it when he had Sammy Watkins. His scramble around by time and launch the ball downfield does not. Yeah, that benefit towards Jarvis Landry. That, that, that's a. That's a Gordon special. Because if. If you're willing to basically punt the ball deep downfield and hope someone gets it, I want Josh Gordon on my team.
Jason Moore
Brooks this or that. Stefan Diggs, Josh Gordon.
Mike Wright
Diggs.
Jason Moore
All right.
Mike Wright
Big fan.
Jason Moore
I'm really glad I started including Brooks.
Mike Wright
Very good. All right, what about Sony, Michelle, Dion Lewis there.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Mike Wright
What do you think? Going Sony on that one? All right. And since Andy took one out of ten, Dion Lewis, I'm two and.
Jason Moore
Oh, man.
Mike Wright
Yeah. All right, well, hey, the next one, Ben Roethlisberger versus Matthew Stafford, we'll talk about in just a second. But right now we want to thank today's sponsor, Fantasy Champs, because that's what our listeners are.
Jason Moore
That's where Jason goes to buy me gear. Yeah.
Mike Wright
I get our whole league these awesome jerseys that we can show up with in our league. With your custom fantasy football team on the front, your name on the back, whatever your favorite number is, you pick your color scheme. It's a really cool item that they have. They also sell draft boards. So if you do the live draft and you want to be able to be like that commissioner, you know, grab the name, put it up on the board, come to the podium, have a real extravagant event. Those are awesome. You can get the draft boards there. They even have these whole packages now where you can get, you know, a winner's trophy, a loser's trophy, the draft board all together. And you save a bunch of quiche because they discount it as a bundle. So check them out. I mean, the truth is, everyone who's listening to our show that isn't playing with other people listening to our show, you're winning fantasy Champs, you're winning championships, so you're going to need them. And we've got a discount. If you put in the coupon code ballers@fantasychamps.com you could save an extra 10% even over their bundle prices.
Jason Moore
Yeah, check it out. And I want to remind everybody, some people ask what sets the Ultimate Draft Kit apart from everything else out there? An independent study done by fantasy football calculator.com surveying all of their league winners last year had the Fantasy Footballers podcast as the number one commonality between their league winners. We put everything we got into the Ultimate Draft Kit so that you've get. You've got everything you need for 2018. Yeah, that's what we do. And the nice thing about it is if you're used to magazines or living the magazine life from days in the past, look, the words on the page, they don't change when things change. We talked about it at the beginning of the show. If you buy a magazine in July or June, that's what you got. And when things change, the depth chart changes. It's useless information.
Mike Wright
I always remember going to the airports last year in August. Oh yeah. And I'd be like, I want something to read. So I grab a magazine and then I'm looking, I'm like, wait a minute.
Jason Moore
This guy, he's not even on the same roster. So we keep it up to date. Hunter plus player profile videos, expert rankings. We've got risk rankings in there. How risky is a player when you're building a roster? We've got all the tier breakdowns, we've got the stat projections in depth, stat projections for every single player of relevance. We've got all the rookie information, the offseason review, sleepers, breakouts, busts, our tiers, tiers, consistency charts. It's jam packed. Matt Harmon's reception perception. And again, pre order pricing ends this week. The draft kit comes out on Friday. So if you want the cheapest possible price, ultimatedraftkit.com grab it now and then use it on Friday all the way through the beginning of the season.
Mike Wright
The pro move is buy it now and then. You still get it pretty much now.
Jason Moore
Yeah. So cheaper now is good.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Jason Moore
All right. This or that. Big Ben Roethlisberger or Matthew Stafford. They're going almost identically in drafts. 94, 92 overall. What do you think? Big Ben, Matthew Stafford. Who do you want quarterback in your team? You've waited in your draft. Jason, you've been so, just wise, patient.
Mike Wright
Thank you.
Jason Moore
You've waited in your draft and here you are staring down Big Ben or Matthew Stafford. The icing on the, you know, on the cake that is your team.
Mike Wright
Yeah. So the real truth is I'm going to take whichever one is not drafted because if both these guys are still on the board and you know, most teams have quarterbacks, I'm just going to keep waiting because I love both guys. That being said, if you know, I'm in the last round and, and nobody took either of these guys and I get my pickings, I'm going to take Big Ben and that is a change for me over the last few years because Big Ben, he doesn't historically finish as a top end quarterback at the end of the Year. He's very volatile when it comes to home road splits, although that wasn't the case last year. But here's the reason. So first of all, I mean, whenever he gets to start the year against the Browns, sorry, Browns, it's usually good for your offense. But we saw a massive change happen with the Steelers last year, namely with their defense and with some of the battles with their offensive coordinator who is now gone. Their quarterback coach stepped into that role and it was all basically to function as we want to get the passing game going a little bit more. And that's what they had to do based on their defense after Ryan Shay's ear went down through the middle of last year. I mean, when you just look at the splits between the first half of the year and the second half of the year for Big Ben, they're incredible. I mean, you're talking about a guy who the second half, from week nine on the second half, his 16 game pace would have been 5,000 passing yards and 41 touchdowns. He wasn't. Big Ben wasn't like, hey, he still got it. He was just on fire. He was, he was as as good as you can get for fantasy. And I think the changes they made this off season are to kind of keep that rolling. And I don't think their defense has been able to replace Ryan Shay's here. So they're going to, they're going to have to score. And the great news is with Antonio Brown, with a star being born and Juju Smith Schuster and with Le'Veon Bell being used so much in the passing game, all those points are going to Big Ben.
Jason Moore
It's interesting. I wanted to look at the game splits and see how Big Ben performed with and without Martavis Bryant over the last two seasons. And his numbers were basically identical across the board. Passing yards, attempts, completions, interception percentages. So he is not a key cog to Big Ben being productive in that offense. And obviously I think this is the.
Mike Wright
Best wide receiver to in juju that Big Ben's had since, you know, he had Manual Sanders.
Jason Moore
Yeah, it's interesting if you look at how he played with juju, his passing yard, his projected average on the year would be 4,100 yards and 27 touchdowns, which I think you would be content with not excited about.
Mike Wright
I mean, the truth is you're probably still not going to play Big Ben week in, week out. He will be a matchup play at the quarterback position and you know, I'll draft both these guys and play the better, the better matchup If I need.
Jason Moore
To, I'm going to go with the guy that has averaged 277 passing yards a game, Mr. Matthew Stafford. Crazy stat. He's been sacked 84 times since the beginning of 2016. That is the second most sacks of any quarterback in the NFL and yet he completed a higher percentage of 40 plus yard passes than anybody else in football. So he's gotten the ball downfield. He's found Marvin Jones. He is, you know what Westworld's going on right now. Matthew Stafford's a gunslinger. Doesn't matter the arm angle, doesn't matter the weapons that he seems to have around him. This team is built around Matthew Stafford. And much like your argument for Big Ben, I don't think the defense in Detroit is what Matt Patricia wants to have and will have in a couple of years, two, three years as he builds it. So I think Stafford is a pretty safe bet. I would lean the Stafford direction.
Mike Wright
If you want to talk safe, it's.
Jason Moore
Stafford, Stafford, you know he's going to get 4,000 yards.
Mike Wright
Yes. Stafford will, will be out there. He'll throw 4,000 yards. He'll throw for, you know, 30 touchdowns around there. I mean you're. Stafford is I think one of the, if not the safest late round quarterback of probably the last few years and certainly 2018 as well. He's probably the guy I will end up owning the most.
Jason Moore
Brooks, why don't you weigh in? Stafford. Oh, wow.
Mike Wright
I feel like that's, I feel like.
Jason Moore
That was just to make me happy. Is that true, Brooks? That is not true. You would rather have Matthew Stafford. It might be because he's on my dynasty roster. That does impact things and the truth. So Mike and I did a trade. Mike and I did a trade this weekend. Did you see that trade, Brooks? Did you see we completed one. I did in our Dynasty league. I liked it for you. Oh, did you?
Mike Wright
Did you?
Jason Moore
Yeah, I traded Mike. Now it's rare for Mike and I think in what 10 years of playing together, Mike and I have probably completed like five trades.
Mike Wright
That's probably trade very often.
Jason Moore
No.
Mike Wright
With each other.
Jason Moore
Yeah. And Mike, you know, that's good on Mike. I mean he knows that I'm going to take advantage of him and I'm going to beat him. And I offered him Pierre Garcon in the dynasty and I got Corey Clement. I love that and I'm very happy about that. And so.
Mike Wright
But I've also shared my.
Jason Moore
I don't even know where that conversation was going. That was tied into something I was going to say, but now I feel like I'm just bragging.
Mike Wright
He was talking about his dynasty roster. He's got Stafford.
Jason Moore
Oh, that's right. And then when I did the trade, Mike said, I'll be right back. I got to go adjust my pure garcon rankings. That was the joke that Mike made. He said, okay, now I've got garcon. I got to go tweak him. All right, this or that. Moving on to a little bit, A tough one here. Amari Cooper or Larry Fitzgerald? I don't know if they could be more polar opposite.
Mike Wright
No, they seem like they're completely different tiers.
Jason Moore
We had the horse and the inside out horse.
Mike Wright
Like the duck.
Jason Moore
Yeah, the bright duck and the dark horse. I mean, that's Larry Fitzgerald and Amari Cooper, is it not? Larry Fitzgerald, the absolute stallion.
Mike Wright
Yeah. He is the dark horse who you think is not going to get it done, and he absolutely will. And the bright duck is Amari Cooper, who. Oh, he's so bright, so shiny. Oh, he's so good. He's drafted so high. He's so fast, and he's the guy, and he's getting the targets, and he's going to let you down big time. Right or wrong. Like, what is it every year? What is it? I have my checklist of, like, the last thing I said in Amari Cooper was nice. This time, I've got to be mean.
Jason Moore
Here, let me help you. He caught 48 of 96 passes last year. That's not good. That would be just. He's right around the Josh Dockson, Jaron Brown, Zay Jones level. So that's 50% of passes. How about this one? Six drop balls last year. You know who dropped the most?
Mike Wright
Crabtree.
Jason Moore
No. Des Bryant. Ooh, Des Bryant. And Marquis Lee Jobless. Yeah. So I don't know if that bends you away from Mari Cooper, but I know that you're never going to find Larry Fitzgerald on that list. So who do you go with?
Mike Wright
Well, you know, the truth is this.
Jason Moore
You're on the clock. It's time to draft Jason. So according to Larry Legend or Amari.
Mike Wright
Potential, according to my rankings, I actually have. Despite the fact that I have been blasphemously painted as this Larry Fitzgerald hater, I actually have Larry Fitzgerald higher in my rankings than I do Amari Cooper. That being said, I think that the ceiling for the potential breakout superstar season is there with Amari Cooper and is not with Fitz. So this is, to some extent, a roster construction issue. I feel like Larry Fitzgerald will usually go later in drafts. So I would much prefer Larry. If it's any kind of full ppr. Even in a half ppr, Larry Fitzgerald is. You know, if I had to bet my house on an over under of 90 receptions, I would say over for Larry. I think it would be foolish to think he has less than 90 in that. You're basically hope you're calling for an injury. So I would. I'm usually in the early rounds. I am risk averse. I know Mike is more shoot for the moon and go crazy. You know, I like taking my swings later and my safety because I think everyone in the first few rounds is a good player. That's why they're in the first few rounds. So I try to avoid the risk. Ironically, you would think maybe the risk would be the. Maybe the risk would be in the elderly gentleman. But Larry Fitzgerald's not risky.
Jason Moore
I'm sure he really enjoys that moniker associated with him. Elderly.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Jason Moore
I'm taking Larry Fitzgerald. Oh, I'm taking Larry Fitzgerald. I look, he's.
Mike Wright
I think this would be surprising to.
Jason Moore
People that I would take Larry.
Mike Wright
Both of us would say, wait, Larry Fitzgerald over Amari Cooper.
Jason Moore
I'm not going to. You said something about Amari Cooper being a good player. I don't know if everybody's certain of that. I don't know if we're certain. And with Jon Gruden, you know, Jordy Nelson, Martavis Bryant, the running game, the seemingly unwillingness historically of Derek Carr to look to Amari Cooper in the red zone. I'm not counting on Cooper. I certainly would if I'm picking a wide receiver. 1. Are you comfortable with Amari Cooper this week? Comfortable?
Mike Wright
No. Comfortable? No. I've, I've. Here's what Amari Cooper is. I just got this shirt and I bought it and it is. Oh, it's hot. Is. It's gonna look so good. But I'm a little worried on the size and I didn't try it on in the store. And I know if it's too tight, I'm gonna look so fat. So that's what Amari Cooper is. It's like, that's a hundred dollar shirt. I shouldn't be buying a $100 shirt. But this is so nice. It's the last one on the rack. I got to have it. And then. Oh, please, I got to lose weight. Or he's got to be big enough.
Jason Moore
I feel like that's the comparison. Amari Cooper, pre draft. He looks real good in that. In that department store mirror. But once you got him at Home. Once you got him on your roster and you look in the mirror at home, you're like, oh, man, should I have even bought this?
Mike Wright
Yeah, that's. I think I. There's no reason you got to go on a diet. If you draft Amari Cooper, there's no reason. I think he's fitting that shirt.
Jason Moore
I think amari's good for 75 receptions. I think he's good for a thousand yards. But do I think he's going to score eight touchdowns, seven touchdowns? No. I think he's probably going to be five. And if he's five, he's not what Larry Fitzgerald is going to give you because Larry's going to catch 30 more passes.
Mike Wright
And one of the problems with Cooper is if you look at how he's gotten his total statistics over the last several years, even when he was, you know, over 1,000 and higher volume, so much of his production comes in a few games. He has those monster games, 200 yards and two or three touchdowns. And. And at the end of the year, you go, oh, that was really good, but disappears for enormous chunks. And last year it is. We need to be honest and say it's entirely possible based on the first two seasons of high productivity. Last year could have been, as it is rumored to be, a situation with fighting through injuries. Even though he was out there playing, Derek Carr said he was hobbled. He was barely himself, and he's healthy now. So if Amari Cooper comes out and breaks out in his top five, I don't think anyone just, you know, I don't think anyone could be like, oh, man, we didn't see this possible. It's just we. We don't. We don't think that's going to happen anymore. With Gruden and the new Raiders, things.
Jason Moore
Just have to go really, really right. They don't have. A lot of things don't have to go right for Larry to be what Larry is.
Mike Wright
Right. But he doesn't have the. I don't think he has even the potential to be a top five.
Jason Moore
You don't think Larry can catch 12 touchdown passes in Arizona?
Mike Wright
No, I don't.
Jason Moore
Okay.
Mike Wright
That is the issue to me is this Arizona with. With Bradford and Rosen. Rosen. I think he's, you know, highest.
Jason Moore
By the way. Shout out to the Arizona Cardinals. I am wearing a cap that the Arizona Cardinals sent me this past week. They saw. They saw me on Twitter and they wanted to share the love. And then a hat showed up. So thank you very much. I'm giving them the shout out. Brooks Brooks, what do you got? Who you got, Larry or Amari? Larry.
Mike Wright
Really?
Jason Moore
Okay.
Mike Wright
Wow.
Jason Moore
I want to get into the mailbag, so I'm just going to ask these. No explanation.
Mike Wright
Okay.
Jason Moore
Marlon Mack or Rex Burkhead? They're going back to back in drafts. Marlon Mack. Rex Burkhead, Jason.
Mike Wright
Marlon Mack, going away.
Jason Moore
Rex Burkhead going away. Brooks Mack. All right, that's. That's a poor decision.
Mike Wright
That's a great one.
Jason Moore
Julian Edelman, Michael Crabtree.
Mike Wright
Michael Crabtree, very not going away.
Jason Moore
Close.
Mike Wright
I mean, super close.
Jason Moore
I'll take Julian Edelman. We were looking a little bit at Jeremy Macklin this morning and how poor he performed in Baltimore after a down year in Kansas City. Michael Crabtree had the down year last year. You hope it doesn't go the same way for him. Probably won't. Flacco saying some nice things about Crabtree, but I have my doubts. Obviously. Edelman coming off the injury. I lean the Edelman direction, and that is a Tom Brady, you know, Tom Brady, Joe Flacco thing.
Mike Wright
It's funny because I.
Jason Moore
You're siding with Joe Flacco. I just want you to know that.
Mike Wright
I lean the Crabtree, but I don't want to. My heart. My heart's with Edelman.
Jason Moore
No, no, no. You're Joe. You're a Joe Flacco truther. If there's one thing that I know.
Mike Wright
About you, I won't stand for this. I will not stand for this. I said some nice things about him in the past before, but that was more like, you know, maybe. Maybe he could not be terrible. Maybe he gets the Alex Smith, you know, Patrick Mahomes comes in, is drafted now. Now he's willing to throw the ball downfield, but I don't think Flacco plays.
Jason Moore
Like, there should be a rule in fantasy football where if the narrative for why you're going to be good takes more than two sentences, you're not going to be good. You're probably not going to be good. That's how I feel about Amari Cooper. That last discussion, you're like, well, I.
Mike Wright
Mean, you could do this.
Jason Moore
Might be really hurt. I mean, who puts up drop numbers like that? Who catches 50% of their passes? A hurt guy, that's who.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Might just be not as good as you hope.
Jason Moore
Yeah, we'll see.
Mike Wright
Mailbag.
Jason Moore
Oh, Jay Grizz had it on lockdown. Jason, you panicked. I thought that I had to wave you off.
Mike Wright
You played that. That. The beginning of that drop, and I thought, oh, no, I'm going to have to mailbag here.
Jason Moore
Yeah. And I remember the last one you did. We all do.
Mike Wright
It was too good.
Jason Moore
It was sultry. That's what I say. All right, if you have a question for the show, we're happy to answer them. Go to the website thefantasyfootballers.com, click the submit a question button or dial our voicemail hotline 302464, TFFB. Jason, here's a voicemail question.
Mike Wright
Hey, followers. Chris from Orlando, I've got my Dynasty startup draft coming up in about two weeks. It's a half point PBR because that's the only way to do it. With Hunter Henry going down, where do we take him? What round? I know we all still love him for the future, but it's a little unclear how we handle it. Thank you, guys.
Jason Moore
Yeah, that's a tough question because, you know, you're drafting that player for the eventuality and are you going to be the one to pull the trigger versus the other people in your league? I do like Hunter Henry a lot for the future, but there are, here's the thing. Hunter Henry, at least he tore it, tore the ACL now. So we do believe he'll be healthy for next year. But then I do have a bit of an internal clock saying Philip Rivers is one more year older and then all the pieces have to come together. Not to mention, what do they do at tight end this year? Do they bring somebody else in that's going to still be there as a compliment to Henry next year? The round question is an interesting one. Do you have a ballpark in your mind of where you'd want to take that shot, or do you just want to let somebody else do it?
Mike Wright
I think I want to let somebody else do it because of the combination. I mean, I think two years from now, you're going to get a really good 2019 with Philip Rivers. But they would be doing themselves, you know, a disservice if they don't draft another tight end and, you know, they have to worry about, okay, higher possible risk of, you know, reentering an acl. I don't think Virgil Green is enough. Even if Gates plays this year, he's not going to be there next year. There are tight ends. I mean, he was really a tear break at tight end already. But like, okay, let me ask this. Would you rather draft in a startup Trey Burton or Hunter Henry?
Jason Moore
Are you kidding me? I would take Trey Burton.
Mike Wright
Right. And so Trey Burton, he's down in, you know, round 10 plus, and that's.
Jason Moore
What you'll have to spend for Henry in a dynasty startup even now.
Mike Wright
Yeah. So right now I'm saying I would not be 1213. I would not take Hunter Henry until we're at least double digit rounds. And you know I'm not going to take him over players that can make an impact this year.
Jason Moore
No, me neither.
Mike Wright
You know, I just don't, I don't think his talent and his situation is good enough to, to say I want him more than whatever I can replace him with plus someone playing this year.
Jason Moore
I starting to think to myself like what if somebody in a dynasty startup two years ago were facing the same question with Jordan Reed and the easy default would have been, well, Reed's hurt, he'll come back, he'll have Kirk Cousins and you can just print the fantasy points. But so many things change and you don't get to predict that.
Mike Wright
Right.
Jason Moore
So I think it would be really late for me to make that pick. By the way, to catch people up a little bit on the news around the tight end situation in Los Angeles with the Chargers. There have been a lot of names coming out there. For some reason the entire earth wants to ask you, Jason, how you would project Kobe Fleener if they went with Kobe Fleener?
Mike Wright
Well, it would have to be 50 receptions, right?
Jason Moore
50 on the dot, no matter what.
Mike Wright
That's what he does.
Jason Moore
This is requirement.
Mike Wright
No, look, Kobe Fleener showed on. It wasn't, it wasn't just oh, he wasn't a fit for the New Orleans Saints. If he were to go, I would not be very excited about Kobe Flinter. He would not be a top 12 tight end in my rankings.
Jason Moore
Talk of Julius Thomas, who's had. Exactly. I actually think no inquiries or inquiries after last year's bad season.
Mike Wright
I actually think Julius Thomas would be a better fit for them because the red zone is where Philip Rivers has utilized tight end so well.
Jason Moore
Julius Thomas, he's a similar shape to Antonio Gates, which is important big body.
Mike Wright
Target and Thomas was on a team last year that really didn't tight, you know, target the tight end. And you can say maybe that's because Julius Thomas wasn't getting open but that, that wasn't the system they were in. So I don't think Julius Thomas has much left in the gas tank. But if you, if you, Andy, were to take this year, would you rather have Julius Thomas this year or Antonio Gates this year?
Jason Moore
Gates.
Mike Wright
Me too. I was trying to make the argument in my own brain. I'm like, but he already knows the system.
Jason Moore
Yeah, he's got the rapport Yeah, I would. I would.
Mike Wright
You know there's no good replacement coming in.
Jason Moore
You used to joke all the time about how the NFL needs to take some Yao Ming, right?
Mike Wright
Yes.
Jason Moore
And they need to bring in the seven footer, the minute bowl of the world, shout out 1980 something and line them up at tight end and run them out and just have them stand there.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Jason Moore
Because if you, if you're 7ft tall.
Mike Wright
With 4 yards, grab the ball and fall to the ground. And if you're, you know, tell me, Tim Dodge. If you're at the five yard line, they can't really even tackle you once you caught the ball.
Jason Moore
No, that would be a goal line automatic. You just got to put the ball up higher.
Mike Wright
We got our two point conversion play. It's called Yao Ming. And they. And they. But you have to. Grandma, throw the ball. No, none of this. You got to. You got to do like the scoop shot and just throw it up in the air and let him. Let him grab it just for entertainment.
Jason Moore
Oh, my goodness. I wonder if. I wonder if that. Is there an age limit? If you were just tall like that, does it matter how old you are? Could this be a post NBA thing? Like is Greg. Greg Oster tag going out there next week? Could he be the replacement?
Mike Wright
Where's big Country?
Jason Moore
Bryant Reeves. You can tell. We.
Mike Wright
We. My basketball reference.
Jason Moore
90S NBA, baby.
Mike Wright
We're getting back, getting back into basketball.
Jason Moore
Oh, my goodness. Scat back. Damon Stoudemire. You ready? Damon Stoudemire. All right. Wesley in South Korea.
Mike Wright
Oh, bonjour.
Jason Moore
Who should I keep between? Dion Lewis and Corey Davis. Running backs are Dalvin Cook and Joe Mixon. Wide receivers are OBJ, DeAndre Hopkins, Julio Jones and JuJu Smith. Schuster. I like the upside of Davis, but I'm worried about RB depth. You answered your question.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Jason Moore
You by telling us your roster.
Mike Wright
If you were to tell me Dion Lewis or Corey Davis in a vacuum, I might go Davis. Even though I don't predict Davis will have a great season. The path is there for him. The path is absolutely there for him to take a step up from where he was drafted. But you have no need.
Jason Moore
Like if he steps beyond Lewis by going away. On your roster, you have four great wide receiver options.
Mike Wright
If he steps up this year, you're probably not going to.
Jason Moore
Yeah, you're not going to play him. Yeah, you're right. Instagram question from Grant.
Mike Wright
Grant Epotamus.
Jason Moore
Grant Epotamus. Very nice. What are y'all's thoughts about free agent auction budget? So sorry. Free agent acquisition Budget fab. That processes every night after Wednesday to keep a fair game to sign free agent players that get hurt during practices.
Mike Wright
Yeah, well, that's.
Jason Moore
So that's what we do.
Mike Wright
Some places don't do that. Some you make it open waiver.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Mike Wright
Once a week, you know, you'll have the day where it's locked on or whatever so that you. Everyone can make their picks. And then it'll run in the morning or at night, wherever you set it up. And then after it runs, it's just an open free agency period. We don't do that. We actually prefer where it locks and runs once every 24 hours.
Jason Moore
Yeah, ours runs like 8 or 9am Every single day, you know, other than Tuesday morning. Other than Tuesday morning, yes. So you get that whole day to put in your bids and then it runs every day. So there's no sneaking a player if something happens ever. Right. Because you know, if the news break. Because we all work. This is making fantasy football fun versus just for the guy. That.
Mike Wright
And half the time, half the time, the best waiver pickup of the week is not made on Wednesday morning when it runs. It's made on Thursday morning based on who was stupidly dropped. People make dumb drops when they make that. So you don't want those drops to just go into first come, first dibs situation.
Jason Moore
Yeah. All right, last question. Nick from Instagram. In dynasty and keeper leagues, what efforts are you making to acquire Tevin Coleman this year? How early would you draft him this year? So basically, if you are grabbing Kevin Coleman, the reason he's so excited is because Mr. Coleman is a free agent next year.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I'm not like. So where he is right now in his normal ADP is where he should be going. I'm not reaching for Tevin Coleman any higher. I think he, he represents a quality backup running back that you can actually start and use. Now he'll be 26 years old when he hits free agency next year. And there is the world where he becomes the next Michael Turner goes to a team that exists for sure. But I think a lot of times people don't realize or don't give credit to the fact that that's not a guarantee. The world also exists where all of a sudden next year he's 26. There's not a lot of interest. People are drafting just rookie running backs like the NFL does. And he signed somewhere to be the backup on a less proficient offense than the Falcons.
Jason Moore
Definitely.
Mike Wright
Or resigns with the Falcons.
Jason Moore
So that's why you like his adp.
Mike Wright
I Like his adp Right where it's at and you might get something juicy in a keeper or a dynasty league. In a keeper league, I don't really care. But in a dynasty, yeah, Yeah.
Jason Moore
I think it's a lot of different outcomes could have. He's a 4.3 career runner. We don't know what he'd be like with, you know, 16 games getting never played frequently.
Mike Wright
Well, I don't think, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think he's ever played 16 games in a season. Right.
Jason Moore
No, I think he's, he's been banged up a little bit and he, he gets to play, you know, with Devonta Freeman, stay fresh. There's a lot of different things that could happen. So I would not have teams, I.
Mike Wright
Mean, they, they still might worry about. He's got the sickle cell trait like John Brown. I mean, obviously John Brown signed a contract, but he's dealt with it for years, staying healthy. So there's, there's a, there's a lot more to where he's going to sign than just, oh, he's a free agent. So he gets a big contract.
Jason Moore
Yeah, yeah, I agree with you on that one. All right, that is it for today's episode. Mike will be back for the Thursday episode. Jay Grizz, thank you. We appreciate it. Check out draft.comballers. it's where we got all our ADP from and that's where you can play basketball all off season long. Draft.com Ballers, thanks for tuning in. Goodbye.
