Welcome to the Fantasy Footballers podcast.
Mike Wright
Yes, we have watered down.
Jason Moore
It's all right. We. Welcome to the Fantasy footballers. We start our show every week by pouring water on all of our equipment. Congratulations.
Mike Wright
All over the electronic devices.
Jason Moore
You might be familiar with our water bets. We are famous for doing what is called water bets. This is something you'll get used to as you listen to our show where we make bets with each other and when we lose in the case of others or win in my case, we get to throw water on each other in spectacular ways. And apparently our electronics have lost a very serious water bet. Thank you to Andy Holloway, one of the hosts of the show here.
Mike Wright
Yeah, welcome to the show. We are the fantasy footballers. Oh, yeah, we're our normal intro man there. Andy Holloway is cleaning up the water that is dumped everywhere. Joining us as well, the. The newest member of our team, Jason Moore. Welcome. Welcome to the show.
Jason Moore
Howdy. A pleasure to be here.
Mike Wright
And I am the fantasy hitman, Mike Wright. And today we are going to talk a little bit about the free agents in the wide receiver position.
Jason Moore
Yeah, we're going to be getting into possible destinations, possible landing spots, and whether or not we think they're going to stay or whether they're going to go. Hello. Welcome back, Andy.
Andy Holloway
So we're just going to keep going, huh?
Mike Wright
It's live.
Andy Holloway
We're doing it live.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Jason Moore
Why?
Mike Wright
It's just like radio, except you could go back and redo everything with it. But why do that when it was so funny?
Andy Holloway
Yeah, that was a really bad start. I was gonna tell you that. This is the fantasy footballs. All right, now I'm back. My apologies to Jason's iPad.
Jason Moore
Thank you.
Andy Holloway
As soon as I hit the record on the podcast, I proceeded to swing my arm left, crossed the desk and spilled water everywhere, sending me out of the studio to clean it up. But you guys did a bang up job introducing the show in spite of me destroying your electronics. So, yeah, I was gonna say something about this being the fantasy footballers podcast and that you could subscribe to us on itunes and that we're gonna bring you opinions. Fantasy opinions so dangerous that they're not even allowed on airplanes. Did you know that?
Jason Moore
That is actually.
Andy Holloway
You cannot. You can. You cannot put them in your overhead compartment. You have to check them and they have to be put on.
Mike Wright
TSA has banned our opinions.
Jason Moore
Itunes. Doesn't. You're so playing our podcast in, you know, above 10,000ft.
Andy Holloway
That's right. It's two too dangerous. And honestly, what's more dangerous than February 10th fantasy football opinions, predictions about where free agents. Yes.
Jason Moore
Is a dangerous.
Andy Holloway
Where some of the other podcasts have maybe taken a little break. Ladies, we're not taking a break.
Mike Wright
No way.
Andy Holloway
Because the football season's year round and we've already talked about this last week. The scouting combines coming up, free agencies coming up will pretty much be drafting before you know it. So today we're going to look at some of the wide receivers that are free agents, where they might land and what we think that will mean to the offenses they're involved with right now.
Mike Wright
That is correct.
Andy Holloway
Where they might be going. And this is an area that I guess I'll start by saying this free agency is really exciting for football fans and for fantasy football players.
Mike Wright
I agree.
Andy Holloway
But the question is, does it deliver on its promise in fantasy world?
Jason Moore
Almost never. Does it deliver?
Andy Holloway
I know it's a shame. In reality, we always we want to project based on a person's talent going someplace else, but more often than not we end up with an Eric Decker and not a Vincent Jackson.
Jason Moore
Well, I think that's one of the most important things people are going to get out of this show. If you're listening to this, first of all, congratulations on winning your league. But second, I think that what you're going to get out is more about the process than the predictions. Seeing why we're predicting certain things and avoiding fallacies that I think we all want to make, we all want to follow that talent of a guy, but we can take a step back and look at why it's going to fail or why a less talented guy is going to succeed. And that's going to be one of the big things that are gained from a show like this.
Mike Wright
I think one of the things we like to do is we apply from other sports of a free agency of for football. So take like basketball, when a guy.
Andy Holloway
Moves James Harden, for example, right. Harden gets signed and he becomes a superstar in his new place. Because it's a one guy.
Mike Wright
Yeah. And it's, it's much easier for that player. Or like baseball, I mean baseball is a team sport, but it's essentially one on one. So a guy, if he can hit here, maybe a park is more or less suited for a hitter, but he's still going to be able to make contact with the ball. Where football is completely team oriented. And if you're a skill position player, you are so heavily reliant on quarterback.
Jason Moore
Play, especially wide receivers. I mean a running back might be able to do it, but wide receivers, you are as good as your Quarterback.
Andy Holloway
And we saw that there's only been a couple of wide receivers that have become free agents, gone to a new team and then been Pro Bowler the next year. And Emmanuel Sanders was one. And as a pro, he's actually a Pro bowl alternate. So we'll give that to Peyton Manning.
Mike Wright
And then my mom was a Pro bowl alternate.
Andy Holloway
That's true. That's true. And then Vince Vincent Jackson, when he left San Diego and he went to Tampa, was a Pro Bowler. But other than that, we see a lot more Eric Deckers, we see a lot more high profile guys that want to get paid. James Jones, Greg Jennings. Greg Jennings. Guys that want to get paid. And so you're staring down a list of a lot of guys this year that are in the same boat, especially guys like Randall Cobb who I don't know if he's going to be back. And that means a lot of things for his fantasy value. So I guess what we're saying is pump the brakes on the hype train and use your brain and realize that if a guy like Emmanuel Sanders is going to a team with a good quarterback, you have a lot better chance than Tennessee Jackson scheme do they.
Mike Wright
Are they run heavy and whatnot?
Andy Holloway
Yep. So I guess let's get into some of the big free agents here and just talk through what we think is going to happen with them and the implications for next year. I think at the top of that list has to be Des Bryant.
Mike Wright
Is his name, full name Desmond?
Jason Moore
It is now. I don't know if it is.
Mike Wright
He should really be Desmond Bryant.
Jason Moore
That sounds really nice.
Mike Wright
That's official.
Jason Moore
That's official. Desmond Bryant. You heard it, here it is.
Andy Holloway
Desmond. Yes.
Jason Moore
All right.
Mike Wright
That's a great name.
Andy Holloway
Desmond Demand Bryant.
Mike Wright
Oh, that's ferocious.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. DEZ for short.
Mike Wright
But so last year he, he put up stat line of 88 catches, 1320 yards and 16, 16 touchdowns. That is just a beastasaurus.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, he's probably the most physical receiver in the NFL now. And he's a monster to take down in the open field, which is great for after the catch numbers. And his ceiling is he's still on the ascent.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I mean that matters when you're talking touchdowns. When they get to the two yard line. The Cowboys, why they were so dangerous because they had DeMarco Murray. But they also have that little out route they run DEZ and he bodies them out like, just like basketball, you know, he boxes them out and it's nearly unstoppable.
Jason Moore
You're not going to pick it off. You can throw that three times in a row and you're going to get one.
Mike Wright
Yeah. And it's not like a fade where it's a. I'm not a big fan of the fade. I always feel like it's a low percentage throw but. But that box out move by Bryant is got to be a 70 to 80% completion rate.
Andy Holloway
So all indications, I think we'd agree is that DEZ is going to be back in Dallas.
Jason Moore
Yeah. He is not a free agent.
Andy Holloway
He'll either be signed long term or they're going to franchise.
Jason Moore
Yeah, he's in. He's a Cowboy. The real question with, with Dez Bryant and his value is DeMarco Murray. But, but that's maybe for a, for a different show.
Andy Holloway
Well, yeah, possibly. I mean the question I guess would be he went 88 for 13, 20 and 16 touchdowns like Mike said. Does he repeat that? I don't think there's any reason to believe he won't in that offense. Not a lot of instability there from a personnel standpoint. I know DeMarco, but he put up those numbers pretty similar.
Mike Wright
Bryant I believe has had double digit touchdowns three years in a row now.
Jason Moore
Yeah, you can't chase the touchdowns. I mean those are going to be different. You know, he's going to be getting touchdowns. But the yards I think he could still improve on. In fact, I expect him to improve on his yards next year. So taking the touchdowns out, just knowing he's a huge touchdown threat, I, I actually like drafting Des higher than I did last year.
Andy Holloway
Top three for sure.
Mike Wright
Top three.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. I mean that's where I'd put him.
Mike Wright
Yeah. I don't.
Andy Holloway
I think he's in the discussion with. I mean I'll take Calvin, Marius Thomas.
Mike Wright
That's a good question. Calvin or Des?
Andy Holloway
We'll say redraft in a redraft league. Eileen. Des.
Jason Moore
I would take Des for sure.
Andy Holloway
Less question marks, a little less injury. I mean just on the upside of career versus maybe the downside, maybe the plateau. I don't know. It's hard. It's. You know, it's actually unfair to Calvin to, to say that because it's not like Calvin went out and underwhelmed. He just went out and got hurt. Yes, but based on the offense and how well they played last year versus Caldwell and Detroit and them having some up and downs. Yeah. I like, I like DEZ just a little bit more. Any other thoughts on. On Dallas or dez?
Mike Wright
I had DEZ as my number one receiver last year. It took him.
Andy Holloway
How'd that Go for you when we made that bet.
Mike Wright
Not well, I mean, I lost.
Andy Holloway
What did he end up? 3.
Mike Wright
Yeah, it must have been. Let's pull that up real quick. He had to have been top four at the very worst.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. I mean, Antonio Brown was number one.
Mike Wright
Oh my goodness.
Andy Holloway
Antonio Brown, Monster.
Mike Wright
Number four.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Okay, so who is ahead of him? Demarius.
Mike Wright
Demarius and Brown.
Andy Holloway
Jordy. Jordy. Jordy Nelson. Yeah. No wonder you won our league. You had Jordy and Antonio Brown and Des.
Mike Wright
But yeah, he's in. He's going. He'll be in my top three.
Andy Holloway
All right, let's move on to somebody who has a no better track record than Demaryius Thomas. But maybe this is just me, but for some reason I feel like people are less attracted to him now than they were. Should they be? I mean he was 111 for. He actually performed better last year than he had ever performed in terms of yards, total catches. I mean he's pretty much done the same thing three consecutive years.
Jason Moore
Demarius is exactly what you look for. You look for guys whose opinions for no reason are going down on. I mean, you know, everybody is kind of just, I don't know, lowering him in, in a mental state and there's no reason.
Andy Holloway
It's because of the coaching change and the trail of the. Peyton. The end of the year. Yeah.
Jason Moore
Which is which, you know, I'm. I think Peyton is going to be 100% fine. I think it was his legs problem at the end of the year and.
Andy Holloway
It was reported yesterday that he's committed to 2015 pretty much. So.
Mike Wright
Yeah. That's not, that's not official, but.
Andy Holloway
Right. But all news is he's working out. He's in New Orleans, he's. He's doing workouts and so if he's back, why wouldn't dimarius be the same guy he's been?
Mike Wright
He.
Andy Holloway
I mean, I've owned Damaris in leagues for a couple of years. He drives you crazy with a few drops here and there, but he's a hundred plus catches, fifteen hundred plus yards, ten plus touchdowns.
Mike Wright
So this is what I think happened or why the opinions going down. We talked about the end of the year and a big thing for really anything in life. How do you start? How do you finish? And he started really slow. Week one, 48 yards, no touchdowns. Week two, 62 and a touchdown. So that's a, that's a good fantasy day, but not what you're expecting from Demarius. Week three, 31 yards. Week four, his bye week so for the first quarter of the year, you're not getting the kind of output that you, that you expect from a guy like the Mary's Thomas. And that's going to start to build the foundation of your memory and your doubt for the, for the 2014 season. And you combine that with how things.
Andy Holloway
Ended with Emmanuel Sanders too.
Mike Wright
Sanders blew up.
Jason Moore
I mean and all of that considered, everything factored in, we were just talking about. That's Bryant and that's Bryant finished with 16 touchdowns behind the Marius Thomas and standard scoring. The Mary's Thomas finished the year ahead of that. And so I guess the question needs to be asked, would you draft, assuming that he stays in Denver, which I think is about as solid a prediction as Des staying in Dallas, who do you draft? Des or Demarious?
Mike Wright
I would still lean dez actually.
Jason Moore
I agree. I think if I had the same pick, I would pick DEZ over him. However, if you're in a snake redraft league, it would almost be a better position to have DEZ fall to you and get DEZ and be closer, say in the second round to a better running back or to be able to get him. You think there's any chance you can get him in the second?
Mike Wright
Who either of those guys probably does. The dez. Yeah, it'll be. It'll be really interesting to see who goes. What wide receivers go in the first round. I mean, usually it's two. It's because historically, for the last few years it's been Calvin Johnson and then.
Andy Holloway
Somebody else has snuck the Marius towards the end or.
Mike Wright
And. But I mean this year, like where does. What do you do with Antonio Brown in that first round? Where. How far back does that bump Demarius and Des. I would think one of those guys will go at the tail. It's going to be Brown and Calvin. Calvin.
Andy Holloway
No, Calvin's going to. I'm going to tell you this right now. Calvin's going to go ahead of Brown in a lot of leagues.
Jason Moore
Oh, for sure.
Andy Holloway
Because.
Jason Moore
Name.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, because of reputation, you know, consistency, reputation, name. Like you said, it's just size. You kind of see that happen. And two years ago, Antonio Brown, all the potential in the world. But you look at him and you don't. What did we say does was a size, speed or a size and physical freak. And you don't see that Antonio Brown. And yet he's. He's more than Antonio. I'm sorry, the Jerry Rice mold, right?
Mike Wright
Yeah, yeah.
Andy Holloway
Router, route runner, hard worker, go to guy. But we are addicted to the to the Calvin Johnson's of the size world with AJ Green, Julio Jones, Demarius Thomas.
Jason Moore
Here's something that's crazy is that, you know, in standard scoring, standard scoring, obviously touchdowns for a receiver are going to be a huge boon. You're not looking for a volume guy as much as a guy that's got the red zone ability. And so you'd think that, you'd think that Antonio Brown would be down for that. And it's standard scoring. He finished first.
Andy Holloway
But what you said before too about touchdowns, they're hard to predict. Two years ago or three years ago, Jordy Nelson had a 15 touchdown year. He comes back the next year with a four or five.
Mike Wright
I think that was the hamstring year though.
Andy Holloway
Right. But okay, so James Jones, you saw 16 touchdowns for James Jones three years ago. Yeah, like four the next year or something like that. So it's just a hard thing to predict.
Mike Wright
And Brown, Brown historically had a touchdown machine like he was this year with 13. And, and he might not be next year passing a passing touchdown as well.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, he might not be next year. You have, you know, Wheaton, you have other red zone options in Martavis Bryant, standout scoring.
Jason Moore
Andy, who do you take? Calvin or Antonio Brown?
Andy Holloway
I take Calvin Johnson in standard.
Mike Wright
I probably do.
Andy Holloway
If you take as Bryant, if you're.
Mike Wright
Getting any kind of catch points though, you're taking Antonio Brown because his, his floor is so high because of the catches.
Andy Holloway
Yep, yep. So I guess, I guess we said, we mentioned he's a free agent, but. But all indications are demarious. Thomas is the top priority for Denver.
Jason Moore
Yeah, he's staying in Denver so we.
Andy Holloway
Can get to our actual free agent.
Jason Moore
Now on our free agent show. All the chips are going to fall based on this guy, I think Randall Cobb. Randall Cobb.
Andy Holloway
So big year last year. 91 receptions, 1287 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Jason Moore
The year that a lot of us were waiting for. I mean we saw the talent. He had injuries in the past, but they weren't soft tissue injuries, they were real injuries.
Andy Holloway
Numbers. Are those the right numbers for Cobb? I had a different set of number. I had a 106 for 14.
Mike Wright
65.
Jason Moore
Randall Cobb. Yards 12, 87. 12 touchdowns, 12 touchdowns, 12 receiving touchdowns.
Andy Holloway
So neither of us had it right. 91 for 12, 87 and 12.
Mike Wright
What did we have written down?
Andy Holloway
No, you got it right. 91 for 12. 87 and 12. Yeah, splitting hairs here. Huge year, Very fun player to own. Gets a few rushes every game. Versatile. Not what you consider a standard goal line threat. But he puts up big numbers because of Aaron Rodgers.
Jason Moore
Put on some weight. I think that was good for his injury habit and also for breaking after the catch. But the real question now is where he goes because he is a very valuable piece in Green Bay. He is going to be able to get paid more leaving Green Bay because he made a name for himself. And I feel like Randall Cobb. I've got a love affair with Randall Cobb. So I am desperately, desperately hoping he stays, but I feel like he's going to go and I think he's going to be this year's Eric Decker. Because you know who's got the cap space? The Raiders, the Browns, the Jacksonville Jaguars. And. And when he goes to those teams, avoid him. Do not draft him on your team because you're going to have to spend.
Andy Holloway
That's the problem.
Jason Moore
I pick. There's going to be. Oh, now he's the number one guy. He's super. They paid him big money. They're going to be getting them the ball. No, no, no. It's not. It's not a. They. We always want. Like they're going to do it. No, no. Derek Carr will be the one doing it. Or. Or whoever is in Cleveland.
Andy Holloway
Zach Mettenberger.
Mike Wright
I was going to say the. You know what if he.
Andy Holloway
Marcus Mariota, if he went to Jacksonville.
Mike Wright
I mean, depending on the cost, I might actually invest in that. Yeah, Yeah. I think Randall Cobb mixed with.
Andy Holloway
Drinking that Kool Aid.
Mike Wright
Randall Cobb mixed with garbage time. Bortles is going to equal fantasy production.
Jason Moore
There's a lot of garbage time in Jackson.
Mike Wright
Not wise. Not wide receiver one.
Andy Holloway
He's not talking Jacksonville.
Jason Moore
No.
Mike Wright
Well, we're just. We're sneaking.
Andy Holloway
I get what you're saying. Where's the garbage time for Eric Decker? They were down every game.
Mike Wright
They. I think Bortles is a better.
Jason Moore
Anybody is a better.
Andy Holloway
I think. I think any sentence that begins with I am counting on Blake Bortles to give me fantasy production is steeped in failure.
Jason Moore
Yeah, well, the hitman might be a Bortles.
Andy Holloway
This is the guy. The fancy hitman is the same guy who was Alan Robinson proclaiming all year long.
Mike Wright
And Alan Robinson was a fantastic option until he got hurt.
Andy Holloway
That's not a fantastic option. He was an option.
Jason Moore
Since this show has become about the Jacksonville Jaguars, I think we need to remind people, Andy, your water bat before the year. That team.
Mike Wright
Yeah. This is why you're so mad.
Jason Moore
Yeah. This is why you hate Blake Bortle.
Mike Wright
You mad, bro?
Jason Moore
What was your. What was your. What was your thought on Jacksonville before.
Andy Holloway
So rumors say that Randall Cobb may end up in Chicago as well.
Jason Moore
Okay.
Andy Holloway
All right. Yeah, I'll speak to that.
Jason Moore
The listeners want to hear it.
Andy Holloway
My. I like Gus Bradley and I hoped that Jacksonville would be better. So I think. I bet that they'd be a 500 team. I didn't go out on a limb and say they make the playoffs. They obviously weren't a 500 team in that team. Which only goes to speak that Blake Bortles is not the answer for Randall Cobb. I think Randall Cobb leaves. Does anybody. I mean, what's the thought?
Jason Moore
I think.
Andy Holloway
I think Devonte Adams showing what he did last year puts. And the packers history. Whether it's James Jones, if he wants to get paid, he's leaving.
Jason Moore
Here, here's. Here's the thing that they've got the money to pay him. And if he's smart, he stays. Because he stays.
Andy Holloway
Earning potential.
Jason Moore
Yeah, he keeps his earning potential higher. Probably make more money in the long run staying. So I hope he stays. If he leaves, I think he's clearly going for money. You're not leaving for any other reason than money. So if he's leaving for money, let me tell you the top five teams with money and you tell me what they all have in common. Here they are. Jacksonville Jaguars, a fantastic quarterback. Awesome. The Oakland Raiders, another rookie, you know, going into his second year quarterback in a terrible franchise.
Andy Holloway
For the record, I like Derek Carr Morton, Blake Bortles, but go on, that's fair.
Jason Moore
The Cleveland Browns, they don't even have a quarterback. Yeah, they have zero.
Andy Holloway
Worst offseason I've seen in a long time.
Jason Moore
Worst franchise. I just. I feel bad. I know there's a lot of Cleveland fans out there. The best fan base.
Andy Holloway
LeBron might be the quarterback next year.
Jason Moore
It would be. I would buy the Cleveland Brown stock if he was the quarterback.
Andy Holloway
You meant the Cleveland Browns. You just buy the Cleveland Browns $5.
Jason Moore
The New York jets are fourth and the Tennessee Titans are fifth. So if he's leaving for money, he's probably ending up on one of those five terrible teams with a bat.
Andy Holloway
He's a Decker or a James Jones.
Jason Moore
Yes.
Mike Wright
So of those of the five. Of the five terribleness, where would you prefer him to go?
Andy Holloway
I can tell you right now.
Mike Wright
I know my answer.
Andy Holloway
Tennessee. Absolutely, 100% Tennessee. Because they're going to draft a quarterback.
Mike Wright
Oh, you think they are?
Andy Holloway
I think they'll draft a quarterback. And I think then the unknown of the quarterback position at least exists. But even in that situation, a Randall Cobb's gonna perform like Teddy Bridge betters, Bridgewater's best option or something. You know, it's like I just don't want that from my wide receiver one which is where he'll be drafted because of the.
Mike Wright
No, he won't be drafted. Wide Receiver 2 yeah, I would think it'd be drafted as a 2 I would actually. I would like him in Tennessee now. It everything I've said it sounds like I'm a huge Bortles fan. That's not true. I just like fantasy garbage time. I do have a little glimmer of hope in my heart for the Mettenberger Big Mac Mettenberger. I don't and I can't. He's got.
Andy Holloway
So he's. Cobb was seventh by the way in standard scoring. So you don't think he gets drafted.
Mike Wright
As wide receiver 1 if he goes to another team? No.
Jason Moore
See, here's the thing. I think in a. Yeah, exactly. I think in most leagues there will be a guy who takes him in the first and not the first round. Not in the first round. It takes him as a wide receiver one takes him as their first wide receiver. And the good news is if he leaves to one of those teams it won't be a listener of this show that that does that and you will be thankful for that. I think that the biggest thing that personally I would see him going to Jacksonville as the best option just because wide receivers in Jacksonville last year put up a lot of points. They just couldn't stay healthy and they got hurt. I still don't draft him as a number one. Anywhere he goes. I don't draft him as a wide receiver one but I do flip over backwards for Devonte Adams if he leaves. I think Devonte Adams becomes Randall Cobb and I would take him higher than he's going to go because I believe that he will put up Randall Cobb type numbers and be a top 10. I think he would be able to put up wide receiver number one numbers. And you're going to get him, you know, later you're going to get him as a wide receiver wide receiver three.
Mike Wright
I think. I think if Cobb leaves the Hill start moving, the general public will be all over Devonte Adams. I think he'll shoot up to probably even fourth round pick and I don't think I would.
Jason Moore
Obviously we got to see other chips fall.
Andy Holloway
Well, let's move on. Let's talk about Jeremy Macklin, the guy who bet on himself. He had the ACL injury. He decided to come back on a one year deal with Philadelphia last year and then he put up a really good season despite quarterback. Well, Yeah, a great season. 85 for over 1300 yards, double digit touchdowns, ends up as the 10th best in standard scoring. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. 9th, 9th best.
Mike Wright
Why is there not numbers on here? You know, NFL.com get it together.
Andy Holloway
That's true. I'm not on NFL.com but yeah. Jeremy Macklin bet on himself and now he's gonna get paid.
Jason Moore
Where does he go?
Andy Holloway
Is it the franchise tag? Is he stay in Philly on a franchise tag?
Mike Wright
I think that Philadelphia will, they probably have to franchise tag him because he is gonna, because he bet on himself and because he won that bet which is not, not always the wisest bet to take. Says Dustin Keller. Yeah, because it all, everything paid off. He's gonna want very large dollar bill signs, straight cash, homie.
Andy Holloway
Here's the thing about Jeremy Macklin. I'm going to give you my take on him. I'm worried about the quarterback situation in Philadelphia from a stability standpoint. And if you look at Macklin last year, almost all of his double digit games came before Foles went out when he was getting more total receptions. And so the question is, who's going to be under center? Does Philly make a move to get Mariota? Do they draft a guy? Do they trade for a guy? Does Sam Bradford kind in there? I mean I, I don't know if.
Mike Wright
I think, I don't know what the.
Andy Holloway
Option is but I think it's foals.
Mike Wright
If they're gonna try and get Marriotta, the, the moves. I mean I've, I've gone through scenarios in my head involving, even involving a trade of LaShawn McCoy and some other things that are not the craziest ideas. As crazy as it sounds. I don't, I don't think it's really that outside of the realm of possibilities, but I, unless Marriott, something happens and he plummets, it's going to be Nick Foltz.
Andy Holloway
However, you're going to have turnover. You're going to have a situation where Jordan Matthews is improving, Zach Ertz is improving, Riley Cooper's out. Maybe there's a guy they draft. I just don't know how I feel about Macklin repeating that season.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I think repeating it might be tough, but I think Macklin stays for sure because I think that the Philly fans need him, love him and I believe that he'll be either franchised or he'll get a deal. They've got enough cap space and room to do that. So I think he stays. And I'm not too worried about the quarterback situation because he is the best receiver there and he is a really high quality receiver. He's not a physical freak that's going to put up, you know, crazy numbers. He's, you know, I think you bet on him as a wide receiver, too, but I think he puts that up because he proved this last year that he is a good player that will be consistent and get, you know, the first targets of whatever quarterback is going to be there. I think that Jeremy Macklin is a guy that I would love to have on my team as a wide receiver, too.
Mike Wright
I would love to have him if I could pay a price for him to be a 2. I completely agree with that. Just. You want, you want in on that Eagles offense, right? With their, their tempo is just amazing. How frenetic and quick they go.
Jason Moore
Here's what I know they're not doing. I know they're not replacing Nick Foles with someone that Chip Kelly thinks is going to make the offense worse. Yeah, they're not in a position to rebuild. They're in a position to improve. And so if they bring in Mariota, nobody knows him better than Chip Kelly. And so I believe in it. And I think that no matter what, Jeremy Macklin finishes the year, assuming he's in Philly as their number one receiver, that's a great offense to be a part of. And I want my fantasy team to be a part of that.
Mike Wright
I have one, one quick, really important piece of information. Jeremy Macklin says he will not cut his hair until he signs a new deal.
Andy Holloway
Whoa.
Jason Moore
Huge news.
Mike Wright
So do with that what you will.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I, I don't really disagree with any of those takes. I think Jeremy Macklin's a really good player. I just think sometimes you see a quarterbacks, different quarterbacks are attached to different people. And so I just don't know what's going to happen there. I do agree the offense is attractive and Jeremy Macklin will be fine if he stays there. It's just. I don't know if we'll see.
Jason Moore
Let's say, let's say he goes for fantasy purposes. Where did, where do you think he lands?
Mike Wright
If he goes, he's going to one of those five bottom feeders who's got the money because he wants to get paid. What? It always sounds bad when you say, oh, he wants to get paid. Yeah, I don't blame these guys. I would want to get paid, too. So if, if Jeremy Macklin ends up at one of those five Teams we were talking about. Oh, man.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I agree with that. Who's a better. Who's a better receiver? Just skill wise for your average quarterback. Would you rather have Randall Cobb or Jeremy Macklin?
Andy Holloway
Flexibility. That's basically the big deal there.
Jason Moore
Obviously.
Andy Holloway
Age, flexibility and. Yeah. Not having the ACL injury.
Mike Wright
Let's move multiple ac.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, let's move down the line here and talk about another guy that I honestly don't love talking about because he's so blase. But Tori Smith, free agent, did not accept a very lucrative offer that he could have accepted before the year began and now he's staring down leaving or staying in Baltimore. I actually think he'll stay because I just don't think he's going to get offered the money elsewhere. But does it matter? Does it matter when a guy catches 50 balls?
Jason Moore
No.
Andy Holloway
He's so annoying.
Jason Moore
Too hard to.
Andy Holloway
I don't know if that matters.
Jason Moore
The problem is Tressman is not a deep ball guy and Tory Smith is a deep. Well, Tressman is a volume and get the running back involved in the passing game in a. But then again, I mean, we talked about this last week, right? Tressman's coming in and not bringing his offense. So I guess that that's.
Mike Wright
He'll bring some of it. I don't know. I. I like Tory Smith this year.
Andy Holloway
It.
Mike Wright
We're assuming he stays in Baltimore. You like Tory Smith as a later round guy who is. He won't. People aren't going to really want to draft him. He's that guy that you're like if he falls to you. Okay, I guess I'm drafting Torrey Smith where that's how I felt last year. If that he felt to me this year in Baltimore, I would be excited to take him as a three or maybe even a four.
Jason Moore
I definitely think his potential is higher this year. I think one of the things that played a huge factor in him underperforming last year was in the beginning of the year, Steve Smith was just excellent and old man Smith just kind of faded and Torrey Smith grew. And so I think that this year Tory Smith is better. But I have a super hard time trusting a wide receiver like Torres Smith.
Andy Holloway
I think you guys are stupid. You guys are dumb. I think Tory Smith is Torrey Smith. I think he's. Four times. Last year he had more than four catches. Four times.
Mike Wright
Yeah, he's. He's not a.
Andy Holloway
He had 11 touchdowns. Because he's a deep threat. He's. He's a deep threat. I just don't. I'm Tired of the offseason Tory Smith talk. I, I'm. This is my own opinion. You got yours, I got mine. And my opinion is Torrey Smith is gonna catch 50 balls every year for the remainder of his career until he fades off into, into where.
Mike Wright
Where did he finish last year in Standard?
Andy Holloway
Probably around 20, 25.
Jason Moore
Here's why that doesn't matter. I actually, I don't disagree with you, Andy. I actually completely agree. I agree with Mike's take that he's in a better position this coming year than he was last year. But I also agree that, that he's not a good fantasy player. Even better than last year. He's got huge games and he's got garbage games and you just can't. You know, it's like there's top five quarterbacks that finish great because they put up these 50 point weeks, but then other weeks they put up five. You don't win fantasy championships with those type of players. I feel like Torrey Smith is the equivalent of the Patriots running back situation. You can't trust him. You can't before a week to play him and put him in your lineup because you don't have any idea what he's going to do.
Mike Wright
Okay, so here's Tori Smith and his, admittedly his, his start what we. Steve Smith was getting everything last year. Here's week six. On week six, 17 points, 714 points. Week eight, he was injured. Week nine, 12 points. Week 10, 13 and a half points. Bye week. Week 12, 9.8. So almost double digits again. Week 13, 13 or 18.5. Then he was hurt again. So that's, that's a what, eight week stretch of double digits.
Andy Holloway
Touchdowns. It was just touchdowns.
Mike Wright
It's not all, it's mostly touch.
Andy Holloway
Okay. He, There is a lot of touchdowns. 65 receptions to 49 receptions, 1200 yards to 750 yards. Touchdowns went from four to 11. Yeah, I don't think it's repeating.
Mike Wright
I, and I don't, I don't necessarily disagree that he won't get double.
Andy Holloway
I guess for me he's the guy that like, oh crap, it's a bye week. I guess I have to start Tory Smith now.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I just, I really like him as a three this year. Where in, in his touchdowns, not all of them were the, those 50 yard bombs. He was starting to get the, the 10 yard slant ends.
Andy Holloway
Well, I will say this red zone look, every, every player, regardless of what you think of him, is a value in the right position. I think we all agree with that. That's the fantasy football philosophy, right? Nobody, nobody's on your blacklist. If you can get, if you can get Tory Smith. And that's true.
Mike Wright
I blacklist, yeah, there are definite blacklists.
Jason Moore
And honestly, not for me. Here's my only blacklist. My blacklist, Torrey Smith falls into that kind of a category. My blacklist is trust. Because at a good enough value, you can get anybody. But if you are going to play a guy that has just as big a chance of putting up a one as putting up a 20, I mean, I guess it depends on your team. But I don't like those guys. So like the Patriots backfield, I don't want them on my roster. I don't want them taking up a spot on my roster because then I'll be forced to make that decision every week. I'd rather just blacklist them. And even if I can get them, you know, get a good running back in the 12th round, I mean, that's, I guess, I guess at some point, you know, then there is a value to put them on there. But it's detrimental to have certain players on your team actually hurts your roster.
Andy Holloway
And it just depends on the type of fantasy player you are. You know, Tory Smith's a fifth, sixth round draft. If you can get him in the eighth, ninth round, then.
Mike Wright
See, that's where I see him. I still see him falling. I don't see him going in the fifth or sixth round this year.
Andy Holloway
Okay. I think, well, I mean, that's where, you know, and then, but then to speak to Jason's point, it's a matter of do you want all upside guys at the back end of your draft or do you want the guy that's going to be, you know, okay, Because Tori Smith will be okay. You just might not be able to guess which week. Trust me, I've been beaten by Tori Smith. Tori Smith beats me because somebody plays them and it's the, it's the third week because every third week he'll do two touchdowns or something on a Monday Night Football game and he annoys you. But yeah, yeah. So I think we've exhausted, exhausted the Tori Smith discussion pretty good.
Mike Wright
But that's actually, I think that's a good thing because you, there's guys who are easy to talk about and there's difficult guys. Like Torrey Smith is a difficult guy to really gauge what he's worth.
Andy Holloway
You think he's a six round guy?
Mike Wright
I would take Torrey Smith, depending on how my draft goes, of course, because I don't take a bunch of Wide receivers. But let's say I needed a third wide receiver in the seventh round. I would gladly take Tori Smith.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. And I think that, that that's probably where you'd feel best about Tory Smith.
Mike Wright
I.
Andy Holloway
Wide receiver, I would think, on your bench.
Mike Wright
His ADP will be in the eighth round. And that's what I'm saying. Really?
Andy Holloway
I would think he would be.
Mike Wright
Yeah. I think he'll still go in the eighth.
Andy Holloway
Last year he's a fourth. Fifth.
Mike Wright
Was he really?
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I think he's around 50, 55.
Mike Wright
Well, he'll. He'll drop because people have a bad taste in their mouth. Even though when you look back on his. Well, I mean, his game log, he's.
Andy Holloway
A wide receiver, too. Last year, number wise.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
So he just.
Mike Wright
He started, like I had said, he started so poorly where we were all even. I was just completely hands off Torrey Smith, and then he really turned it on.
Jason Moore
Any chance he leaves?
Mike Wright
He won't. I don't think he gets the offer to make him leave based on what.
Andy Holloway
He was offered before the season. I know he's not getting that after the season from. From Baltimore or another team. So I think he stays probably. And they like him. I think Harbaugh likes him.
Mike Wright
Baltimore needs him.
Jason Moore
So let's talk about a wide receiver that I know Mike loved last year and I hate every year. Michael Crabtree.
Mike Wright
Oh, man.
Andy Holloway
Can't get out of his own way, kind of.
Mike Wright
That's.
Andy Holloway
That's how I look at Crabtree. It's just, you know, you got to blame Kaepernick, I guess, for the season, but. And he's a guy, at least, that is underwhelmed so much. He could perform better someplace else.
Mike Wright
I don't know if he can.
Jason Moore
He has always been an injury guy, and I don't think he gets an injury rap. I don't think people look at him like a huge injury guy, but he has let injuries derail him time and time again. And.
Andy Holloway
And he thinks he's talking let when you tear your Achilles. But I get what you're saying.
Jason Moore
Well, you let it be detrimental by not sitting and getting it taken care of. You know, he said all year there was no problem. Every time he was interviewed after a game and they would say, is this a problem? He goes, no, you guys are making this up. There is no problem. There was a problem, and he was detrimental in how he dealt with it.
Mike Wright
Are you calling Michael Crabtree a liar?
Jason Moore
I'm calling Michael Crabtree. How dare you. I'm calling him. Maybe not the most intelligent wide receiver.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. And honestly, bam. Honestly in 2012 he was relevant.
Jason Moore
True.
Andy Holloway
It's 2015 now.
Mike Wright
Was that what it was? It was 2012.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. He had 85 catches. He had 1100 yards, he had nine touchdowns that year. 2013 was shot. He had what, one game towards.
Jason Moore
And he seems like.
Andy Holloway
And then last year he didn't miss any. I mean to speak to the injury point, he's 16, 15, 16, 16 with the Achilles year out. He plays through it poorly. He plays through it poorly probably, but you know, last year, four touchdowns, 68 receptions. He's down 20 from the year before.
Jason Moore
So let's talk. Does he stay or does he go? He goes.
Andy Holloway
He goes.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I agree.
Mike Wright
This is not going to. They're not going to give him money.
Andy Holloway
And Crabtree's shown he wants money.
Mike Wright
He's going. He feels like he was a holdout.
Andy Holloway
He was a holdout guy.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Yeah. He held out when he was drafted. He was one of those guys.
Andy Holloway
Oh, yeah.
Jason Moore
Now obviously these top five cap space teams aren't going to get every receiver. So where might he go on a decent team? Do you see any decent teams?
Andy Holloway
He could go to Chicago.
Mike Wright
He. Crabtree strikes me as a guy who is going to. He's going to shoot for a large contract. Those contracts will not show up. He will sell me and he will, he will take that 12 year deal for where it's the 5 million guaranteed or whatever as he bets on himself to say, I'll show you and then he'll stink. Do you think there's people nothing.
Jason Moore
You think there's any chance he goes to the Raiders just to stick it to the Niners, just stay in the Valley and get paid.
Andy Holloway
That I would put rate. I mean you asked for an outside the box team and that's why I said the Bears. But I think the Raiders are by far where he ends up. Yeah, I think he ends up in Oakland.
Mike Wright
He seems like a Raiders guy.
Jason Moore
He does.
Andy Holloway
He does seem like a Raiders guy.
Jason Moore
I, I'm never a fan over the last five years or so of Raiders wide receivers and he strikes me as exactly the guy that's going to go there, get drafted decently and not be a part of any of my fantasy rosters.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I don't, I don't think I'll be drafting Crabtree next year.
Jason Moore
What if he stays?
Mike Wright
I will not be drafted. A problem.
Andy Holloway
Let someone else.
Mike Wright
And I don't, I don't have actual. I haven't done any research to look it up. This is just Eyeball test when I watch San Francisco play, whoever lines up, let's see. Because Kaepernick's left handed. Correct. So. No, he's not.
Andy Holloway
No, that's a. He's not left handed.
Jason Moore
Okay. Well I was Matt Liner for some.
Mike Wright
Reason I think he's left but whatever. Who. When you line up to his non dominant side, he's not going to look at you.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. And that you're just saying because of his quarterbacking.
Mike Wright
Right. Because he's.
Andy Holloway
They split the field, you're saying and.
Mike Wright
Yeah, he's, he's not a progression. Looking at all his reads guy. He's going to look at his one to two guys on his strong side.
Andy Holloway
Crabtree to his defense is a much better PPR receiver than he is a front end standard scoring receiver. I mean I, you're going to get targets with Crabtree and he's a quantity guy.
Jason Moore
Jim Tomsula is moving to the, to the read option where he's going to, you know, run more and look at one target. I mean that's, that's pretty much, you know, goes into the wheelhouse of Kaepernick. So wouldn't that benefit Crabby?
Mike Wright
It would if. If it depends on who, which spot they give him. Because if he's true, if he's not.
Jason Moore
The one, who else would be in? Quan Bolden.
Mike Wright
Yeah, Bolden is man, he just gets it done. And Bolden is very reliable. He would be fantastic.
Jason Moore
Okay, so let's, let's talk about this. Let's say Crabtree goes to Oakland and let's say they don't sign any other wide receivers. Where do you value old man Bolden.
Andy Holloway
Value?
Mike Wright
If news is trending in that direction of they're really going to go run option and then I'm. And I see it. Well, they want guess they probably wouldn't show it in the preseason, but I still wouldn't put a ton.
Andy Holloway
Here's what you get with Bolden. You get 16 games played. You get the same amount of targets every year and you get maximum effort. You get a value in the late rounds. You get a great. Here's example. I'll take Anquan Bolden every single day over Torey Smith is my wide receipt.
Jason Moore
And you'll get him three rounds later at least. People do not like drafting Anquan Bolden and if I've got to take, you know, my later picks, I try to take Flyers and so it's hard to take someone that's like an Anquan Bolden. But when you've Got that kind of value. Where in the late, you know, 8th, 9th, 10th round you can find a guy who could be a wide receiver, one of an offense. You kind of have to take him.
Mike Wright
At this point on today is why where I'm saying this. I would draft Tory Smith first if Crabtree.
Andy Holloway
And that's. That's fine. I mean, because you're. You're looking for. I mean, you got youth. It's just for me. Bolden's never had a season of under 100 targets. He's just Mr. Reliable. He's not sexy. Nobody likes that. And he has. He doesn't score touchdowns, not. Not to the clip that somebody like Smith does. So I don't blame you for that at all. But for me personally, you know, I'm.
Jason Moore
Really curious about this next guy we're gonna talk about because I've got my opinions, and I feel like they're going to be very different.
Andy Holloway
I think. I think we should probably pick out maybe one more guy each and take a look at that.
Jason Moore
Well, then I'll bring the next. I'll bring the next guy to the table. Kenny Brett, used to be great. Is a head case. I think he has been arrested nine times since 2009.
Andy Holloway
Is that a real number?
Jason Moore
I believe that's. I believe.
Andy Holloway
No, that's gotta be wrong.
Jason Moore
Look it up. But I believe he's been arrested.
Mike Wright
Throw that around. Look it up.
Jason Moore
Since 2009.
Mike Wright
That is an egregious.
Andy Holloway
That's just way too many.
Jason Moore
Okay, well, my apologies, Mr. Brett, if I'm wrong.
Andy Holloway
Wait, maybe nine charges. Yeah, I guess he might have nine.
Jason Moore
Charges against him, but he's obviously a physical freak. Some of his injuries in the past have derailed him. He hasn't played for a good quarterback. And to be quite frank, I don't think he can stay there. They're in a very bad cap position. I think he goes somewhere else to a team that's paying to bring him on. Do you have a verdict there yet, Andy, on the arrest situation? You might be right, Mr. Britt. I rescind my apology.
Andy Holloway
He has a total of eight times. No, nine times.
Jason Moore
Oh, yes, you heard it here first.
Andy Holloway
Because it was eight. Based on. On 2012.
Jason Moore
So not the penny. I offered my apologies.
Andy Holloway
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Jason Moore
Crabtree. For the.
Andy Holloway
Forget about the arrests. He also has an ACL and MCL injury.
Jason Moore
What? Right now?
Andy Holloway
No, I just meant historically.
Jason Moore
Oh, yeah.
Andy Holloway
He likes to muddy his background with an ensemble of arrests and an ensemble of major knee injuries.
Jason Moore
Kenny Britt is a guy that the last two years pretty much has not been drafted and rightly so. And it was, you know, before that he was drafted high. He was a big breakout potential candidate. But if he goes to a team that is the right fit, I think he could actually be a bounce back candidate. So I find him as someone that I would never have really spent a pick on the last two years that I might actually take a flyer upside pick on in this coming draft, depending on his situation.
Mike Wright
His bounce back potential is the same amount of bounce that I get when I hit the concrete by falling down on flight of stairs.
Jason Moore
Same amount of bounce he gets when his bones in his knee. Touch the bones in his knee.
Andy Holloway
I actually think Kenny Britt's in the best shape if he can stay there.
Jason Moore
Really?
Mike Wright
I think he has to. I don't see anybody.
Andy Holloway
Here's some guys that Kenny Britt finished ahead of last year. You ready for this?
Jason Moore
I am.
Andy Holloway
Pierre Garcon. Oh, Larry Fitzgerald.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Reggie Wayne. Dwayne Bowe. Percy Harvin.
Mike Wright
Dwayne Ball. Come on.
Andy Holloway
All right. He's a name, but yeah, I mean there's, there's some names in there.
Jason Moore
And now he's shown that he has wide receiver one potential in the past. Now maybe that's just gone. Maybe he's just. Maybe he's dead and that's gone without looking this up. How old is Kenny Brett?
Andy Holloway
He's got to be like, I'm gonna guess 25.
Jason Moore
Wow, you guys split the difference. 26. So he is, he is still, I think, capable of putting up big numbers. He's shown he can do it in the NFL. He's come back now from his ACL MCL injury. Had enough rest from that to where I think he's gonna be second year after. Yeah, he's gonna be the healthiest he's been in several years. And I think that if he heard.
Andy Holloway
It here first, he's Jason's first wide receiver.
Jason Moore
First wide receiver one. Kenny Brittany over under on an arrest this year. 3.5 arrests.
Andy Holloway
I don't think he'll get arrested.
Mike Wright
I think he the even. Even if I had interest in Kenny Britt, which I do not, he. He's going to be back on the Rams. I think he likes Jeff Fisher. He likes to play for Jeff Fisher. I'm assuming since he followed him From Tennessee to St. Louis and the quarterback situation in St. Louis is Sam Bradford, who has he even completed an entire.
Andy Holloway
Season, I think he'll be gone.
Mike Wright
You think they cut him? Yeah, I think they restructure him because they. Well, I gave, I guess restructured. You got it. You got to tell him you're taking a pay cut or you're hitting the bricks. Yeah, it's what you have to do. Yeah, but their quarterback situation is just bad. They're not nearly high enough in the draft to get one of the big two guys.
Jason Moore
I would like to see Kenny Britt go to the Minnesota Vikings and play with Teddy Bridge. I like Bridgewater and if he does something like that, goes to a place with a decent quarterback because he's not going to cost a ton. I would spend a pick on him. But I think we've spent enough air on Kenny Britt. Yeah. So what?
Mike Wright
I actually, I think that's a, that's one of the, that's a possible landing location for a guy like Kenny Britt.
Jason Moore
Yeah. So who you guys got?
Andy Holloway
Hitman.
Mike Wright
Oh, sorry.
Andy Holloway
Anybody that stands out as a free agent wide receiver. Let's ask this question and I'm gonna box you into it. Is there someone that lands somewhere else that does. Does perform?
Mike Wright
Oh, so he switches teams and he'd be.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, it can go up. I mean you had guys that kind of like, I mean somebody like Eddie Royal who had kind of like these burst games as a, you know, does he go and is, are any of these guys relevant? Some guys we're talking about here are. Cecil Schwartz is going to leave Jacksonville.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Okay. So the, he's the guy who, I would say if he goes somewhere he can perform. Cecil Shorts the third, I think, I think he's the third.
Jason Moore
He is the third.
Mike Wright
I, I, I. If he goes. He's a, he's a guy who I've.
Jason Moore
Never heard III referred to, but that is correct. Right. Cecil. He's Cecil Shorts. I. Yeah, that's his name.
Mike Wright
He's a guy who.
Andy Holloway
One eye for every.
Mike Wright
You kind of stole my thunder where I can see him landing in a place like Minnesota because he'll be a low cost receiver if you can say.
Jason Moore
If he can stay healthy.
Mike Wright
Yeah, if it can happen. I mean he's got concussion problems, he's got leg problems, but he's, he is a shifty, mostly sure handed receiver and I think he could, he could really shine if given the, the potential of a, of a top, a one or two spot with a above average quarterback.
Jason Moore
Here's the only wide receiver free agent that's going to improve in a way that matters for fantasy this year and it is if any wide receiver goes to Green Bay or the Broncos, assuming the loss of say, you know, Julius Thomas or in the loss of Randall Cobb. If they lose them and the loss.
Andy Holloway
Of West Welker maybe.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I assume that Latimer maybe. But if they, if they lose, you know, it's very realistic that Julius Thomas goes and that Randall Cobb goes. If they lose those guys and go and sign a guy, I'm. I'm saying, whoever that is, I mean, you know, if it's a. One of these guys we're talking about at all, then that guy is a guy I'm going to put Emanuel Sanders type chips on, because they are there putting money and they've got the quarterback to get the ball to the guy. And so it's going to be the same thing as when Eric Decker left and Emmanuel Sanders came in. It might not be the greatest name, but if somebody does that, draft that guy.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Jason Moore
Other than that. No, no, I would.
Mike Wright
I would do the same thing with the Eagles. If Macron leaves and they have to replace him, I would. Yeah.
Andy Holloway
No, no, you're right.
Mike Wright
You can't just have one wide receiver, whoever.
Andy Holloway
And that's why you. That's why you would go with one of those guys that is young and has upside. So two guys that jump out to me in that category would be like, you know, Vincent Brown, if he landed someplace. He's 26. He has.
Mike Wright
He's still on the Chargers.
Andy Holloway
Right. He's a free agent. And then. And no, he wasn't on the Chargers. He went to Oakland. He went to Oakland in the middle of the season.
Jason Moore
Wow.
Mike Wright
I completely missed that.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. And had another guy on my list. Whether it's like Andre Holmes or Daenerys more, if they landed in a good quarterbacking situation, then at least they're 26 and they have talent.
Mike Wright
I think I'm off on Daenerys more, but Andre Holmes had my affection for a small amount of time last year. I. I liked when. When he was producing. What he was producing the deucing. What do you have?
Andy Holloway
When he's producing.
Mike Wright
Producing the deucing, man.
Andy Holloway
Miles Austin is only 30, but doesn't he feel like about 48?
Mike Wright
His. His legs are 52 years old.
Andy Holloway
Oh, my gosh. Yeah, I think we've covered the big names. A couple guys we didn't mention, though, that aren't free agent.
Mike Wright
They have implications for. Well, there's a couple guys who have implications for other receivers, like Wes Welker is a free agent. Hakeem Nix.
Andy Holloway
I was gonna bring up Larry Fitzgerald and Mike Wallace.
Mike Wright
Yeah, we do need to talk about that, but I'm saying that If Hakeem. Hakeem Nicks and Reggie Wayne are. Do we really think both of them will be back for the Colts?
Andy Holloway
I think Reggie's back. I just.
Mike Wright
Do you think he does. You think he plays or do you think he retires?
Andy Holloway
What? Yeah. He doesn't go somewhere else.
Jason Moore
I agree he's back, he plays. And he's only irrelevant to himself, but I think it's going to be relevant to other players there.
Mike Wright
My only point was because if Nix leaves, then Dante Moncrief gets a boost. Oh, I looked up Jerome Carter. He got like no money for.
Andy Holloway
It's not much.
Mike Wright
For all that talk about he got no money, he got no signing bonus. I don't. Why didn't. Why was that even being talked about so strange.
Andy Holloway
Because it's February 10th.
Jason Moore
I would say the last. The last important thing to talk about. Especially because within the fantasy footballers. We have a water bet on this. We actually already have a water bet.
Mike Wright
Do we?
Jason Moore
On whether or not Larry Fitzgerald resigns with the Arizona Cardinals.
Mike Wright
Wait, wait, wait. Let me guess.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Mike Wright
Andy has him staying. You have him leaving.
Jason Moore
The hitman is always on it, guys.
Andy Holloway
That is correct. That's accurate.
Jason Moore
I believe that Larry Fitzgerald cannot stay here. The Cardinals pretty much have about the worst draft or cap position in the league, and I just don't think it's. I'm hoping that the Cardinals, as a Cardinals fan, I'm hoping that the executive and front office has finally got to the point where they do what is right for the team financially going forward, you know, a la the Patriots, letting guys go when they need to go, rather than giving, you know, the hometown fans what they want. So I think Larry leaves and that would be a big free agent. I mean, have Larry go to Green Bay, I would love that. But I think he leaves. Andy thinks he stays and one of us will get watered on the. On the air. You will see it.
Andy Holloway
I think you already got water today. That's how this podcast started.
Jason Moore
My iPad did.
Mike Wright
Thank you. I think.
Andy Holloway
Why you don't give me a counterpoint? You just went on a 10 minute spiel. There's a Cardinals. I just got. I'm the other side of the water.
Jason Moore
But I got to.
Mike Wright
Let's hear it.
Andy Holloway
Get my take. Yeah, he's staying. I'm going to win the bet. All right, Go ahead, Mike.
Mike Wright
I actually think I'm leaning towards that he stays as well.
Andy Holloway
That makes sense. We're.
Mike Wright
Fitzgerald good at this. To me, while he. Of course he wants to get paid. He's been paid well he's been paid handsomely over. His time in. His time in the NFL is coming to a close, and he will. While he tries to get maximum money, there's only a handful of teams that I actually see him going to because.
Andy Holloway
He wants to win.
Mike Wright
He wants to win.
Andy Holloway
He also has local endorsement deals here in the Valley that. I don't know. I mean, you can get those anywhere. Wait, no, you can't. You can't go as a wide receiver three into another.
Jason Moore
Let me. Let me tell you where he's going. You guys want to hear where he's going?
Andy Holloway
He's not going to New England.
Mike Wright
He's going to the New England.
Jason Moore
No, no, no, no, no. I know where he's going. I just got off the phone with him, guys.
Andy Holloway
Okay?
Jason Moore
Larry Fitzgerald is going to the Minnesota Vikings. He's going back home. I don't come in.
Mike Wright
I don't see it happening.
Jason Moore
And you. You want to talk about not getting local endorsements in his hometown with one.
Andy Holloway
Place that makes sense. But they got. They got their wide receivers out there.
Mike Wright
And they're not close to winning. I don't think they're ascending, but they are not close enough to win.
Andy Holloway
Jason, you're completely right. In three years, you are completely right.
Jason Moore
Well, then I will expect you to take my water back.
Mike Wright
But if you look at teams who are wide receiver needy, who are in championship caliber position, you're talking about New England. He would have to take very little money to go there.
Jason Moore
Green Bay.
Mike Wright
Green. But Green Bay, they paid. They paid Jordy. If they're not going to pay Randall Cobb, why would they pay Fitzgerald?
Jason Moore
Because he's a Hall of Fame quarterback and they lost Randall Cobb.
Mike Wright
I would.
Andy Holloway
Larry's.
Mike Wright
I'd rather have Randall Cobb than Larry Fitzgerald on my NFL.
Jason Moore
Did I just call him a quarterback?
Mike Wright
I don't know.
Andy Holloway
I thought you did, but I think you meant that Rogers was the Colts.
Mike Wright
That's a possibility.
Andy Holloway
No, I'm just talking about teams, team.
Mike Wright
Teams who need a wide receiver on the cusp and their cusp of winning. Baltimore, you know, Baltimore is a good point. The Bengals.
Andy Holloway
Nobody's paying him his salary for this year.
Mike Wright
No.
Andy Holloway
Nobody.
Jason Moore
No.
Andy Holloway
So if he's renegotiating his contract, knowing Larry Fitzgerald as a Cardinal fan, he's staying here.
Jason Moore
Well, we. The nice thing about this is that it will happen and we will know and one. One person will be actually physically punished for their predictions. We don't just predict things and let it go. We predict things and punish wrong predictions.
Mike Wright
My one scoop of inside information Is I was on an airplane ride and I was. Was seated behind Arizona beat writer Dan Bickley. And his news was that behind the closed doors, Fitzgerald was having meetings with the brass of Arizona saying that he was really unhappy with the. His involvement in the offense. He felt like he's being pushed aside which watching the games. I mean you, you kind of have to think that especially look at his numbers for this year. Those are. What do you have like two touchdowns? I mean, incredibly low numbers for Larry Fitzgerald. So that's the one knock on him not returning. So. But I still just. I think that they'll hash it out and I think Fitzgerald comes back.
Andy Holloway
Well, there you go. Anybody else we want to talk about before we wrap this up? We're sitting at an hour here of talking about free agent wide receivers.
Mike Wright
The. The one other guy who's not technically a free agent, but I believe will be shortly a free agent is Mike Wallace. I agree the. He's owed too much money for what he comes with of quitting on the team. I mean that the news coming out that he got benched in the last week for quitting saying he didn't want to play and that it was not the first time that he has said he doesn't want to play. I mean, can you imagine as the coach, your superstar, big money wide receiver. Yeah, I don't really feel like playing anymore. Like, okay, that's.
Andy Holloway
Mike Wallace is the reason why you don't give crazy money to these guys.
Mike Wright
Sometimes in a fun fact which I think all of us have already heard this, but maybe, maybe people haven't they offer. The contract that Antonio Brown received two years ago was offered to Mike Wallace before it was offered to Antonio Brown.
Jason Moore
And that would have made him into Antonio Brown.
Mike Wright
No, but just imagine the Steelers be.
Andy Holloway
A more of a difference what the.
Mike Wright
Steelers would look like if that was if Wallace was still on the team with all that money quitting. And so I don't. I don't. Do we want to elaborate where we think Wallace ends up?
Jason Moore
I think, you know, all these free agents are going to end up in the spots we've been talking about. You know, if they're chasing money, they're going to end up.
Andy Holloway
He ends up in the same place that D. Jacks did. He'll get paid. He won't get paid through the nose, but he'll get paid because he's. You ask a guy like Patrick Peterson who's the fastest guy he's ever played against in his entire NFL career, he says Mike Wallace says Mike Wallace is the fastest guy he's ever had to cover. He'll end up in a roll somewhere. Catching long bombs, making you annoyed like Tori Smith and quitting on teams until he retires.
Mike Wright
Tori Smith did not quit.
Andy Holloway
Well, I said catching bombs. Yeah, catching bombs and complaining. Don't forget complaining. Not like Corey Smith.
Jason Moore
In his defense, he's on the Miami Dolphins. I guess that that should wrap us up.
Andy Holloway
But yes. The Fantasy Footballers podcast. You can find us on Facebook www. Facebook.com the fantasy footballers. You can find us on itunes. Subscribe to our podcast. You can also visit our website submit questions for the show at the fantasy.
Mike Wright
Footballers.Com yeah, we're still taking questions for the extremely hardcore. And how. How many, how many, how many team fans? I can't think of the right word. Team fans. Fans of teams. Can Jason turn off in this one show?
Jason Moore
If you like football and you like certain team that you are a fan, let us. I don't like you.
Mike Wright
Let us know so Jason can say something derogatory.
Andy Holloway
You're a Cardinal fan and you're sitting here ragging on doing the wise thing is cutting a Hall of Fame wide receiver.
Jason Moore
Everybody can hope that Larry Fitzgerald goes to the Cardinals so that I get watered.
Andy Holloway
There you go. He's Jason Moore at jasonffl. On Twitter he's Mike the Fantasy Hitman, right? You can catch him on Twitter @FF Hitman and you can follow me if you want at Andy Holloway. And we'll be back next week. But I got a more opinions so potent that the FDA has not approved them. I like not approved.
Mike Wright
I got one. One beef real quick just in case he's listening. There is a character out there who is squatting on the handle Fantasy Hitman on Twitter with with no posts.
Andy Holloway
He just got a bunch of listeners from no yeah mean followers he has.
Mike Wright
I don't think he has any followers. I think he's.
Andy Holloway
Are we gonna keep calling him out on here until you get that name?
Mike Wright
Probably. That is just infuriating.
Andy Holloway
Someone squatting on the Fantasy Hitman. That's just wrong, bro.
Mike Wright
And Twitter will not do anything about it.
Andy Holloway
Don't forget you can also listen to the Fantasy Hitman via reading. I said listen to but you can read his articles on fantasy pros.
Mike Wright
Call me and I will read the article to you.
Andy Holloway
He's willing to read his articles.
Mike Wright
Go to fiverr.com in a pleasant baritone. But later this week there should be a my 2014 recap of tight ends and who I project to be in the top five. And there is a interesting name in there. Should we leave that as the tease?
Andy Holloway
Yeah, there you go. Yeah, don't talk about that.
Mike Wright
There's an interesting name on there who.
Andy Holloway
We need something to drone on about in our Titan episode.
Mike Wright
I'm going all in on next year, so thanks for listening.
Andy Holloway
Dallas Clark.
Mike Wright
How did you know?
Andy Holloway
All right, that's it. Say goodbye, fellas. All right, take it easy.
Jason Moore
Thank you for listening to another edition of the Fantasy Footballers Podcast.
Fantasy Footballers Podcast Summary
Episode: Fantasy Football Draft Podcast for 2015 - Free Agent Wide Receivers and Rookies
Release Date: February 10, 2015
In this episode of the Fantasy Footballers Podcast, hosts Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike "The Fantasy Hitman" Wright delve deep into the 2015 NFL free agency landscape, focusing specifically on wide receivers. They analyze the potential moves, performance projections, and fantasy football implications of key free agent players, offering listeners strategic insights for their upcoming drafts.
The hosts begin by contrasting NFL free agency with free agency in other sports. Jason Moore emphasizes that, unlike basketball or baseball, football’s team-oriented nature limits the likelihood of free agents becoming instant fantasy stars.
Jason Moore [04:09]: "Does it deliver? Almost never. Does it deliver?"
Mike Wright adds that in football, especially for skill positions like wide receivers, performance is heavily tied to the quarterback and the overall offensive scheme.
Mike Wright [05:03]: "Football is completely team-oriented. And if you're a skill position player, you are so heavily reliant on quarterback."
Des Bryant, known for his physicality and after-the-catch prowess, stands out as a premier free agent target. The hosts agree that Bryant is likely to remain with the Dallas Cowboys, making him a reliable and high-impact fantasy asset.
Andy Holloway [07:12]: "He's probably the most physical receiver in the NFL now."
Jason Moore [09:07]: "He puts up those numbers pretty similar."
Mike Wright reflects on Bryant's consistency, noting he was a top receiver last season.
Mike Wright [10:24]: "He'll be in my top three."
Demaryius Thomas is praised for his consistent performance, though his future is tied to quarterback Peyton Manning. The consensus is that Thomas will remain with Denver, continuing to be a solid fantasy contributor.
Andy Holloway [12:26]: "He's a hundred plus catches, fifteen hundred plus yards, ten plus touchdowns."
Mike Wright [14:03]: "I think he's staying in Denver so we can get to our actual free agent."
Randall Cobb presents a mixed outlook. While he had a standout season, his potential departure from Green Bay raises concerns about his fantasy reliability. The trio cautions against drafting him too high due to the uncertainty of his landing spot.
Jason Moore [19:13]: "I find him as someone that I would never have really spent a pick on the last two years that I might actually take a flyer upside pick on in this coming draft."
Jeremy Maclin impressed despite injury setbacks, making a strong case for remaining with the Philadelphia Eagles. The hosts believe that Maclin will either be franchised or secure a significant contract, ensuring his presence in Philly’s dynamic offense.
Jason Moore [28:08]: "I think Jeremy Macklin is a guy that I would love to have on my team as a wide receiver, too."
Mike Wright [28:37]: "I would love to have him if I could pay a price for him to be a 2."
Torrey Smith receives a divided opinion. While some appreciate his explosiveness, others question his consistency, making him a risky yet potential late-round pick for fantasy teams.
Jason Moore [33:03]: "I don't like those guys. So like the Patriots backfield, I don't want them on my roster."
Andy Holloway [35:14]: "If you can get Tory Smith. And that's true."
Michael Crabtree is viewed negatively due to his history of injuries and inconsistent performance. The hosts predict that Crabtree will either depart or see a significant decline in his fantasy value.
Jason Moore [39:18]: "I'm calling him a liar."
Mike Wright [41:37]: "I don't think I'll be drafting Crabtree next year."
Kenny Britt is discussed with concern over his legal troubles and injury history. While he possesses physical talent, his off-field issues and health make him a high-risk, low-reward prospect for fantasy players.
Jason Moore [46:58]: "Kenny Britt is a guy that the last two years pretty much has not been drafted and rightly so."
Cecil Shorts III is mentioned as a potential value pick if he lands with a stable quarterback, but his injury history warrants caution.
Mike Wright [50:46]: "He could really shine if given the potential of a top one or two spot with an above-average quarterback."
These receivers are briefly touched upon, highlighting the importance of landing with teams that can maximize their potential.
Andy Holloway [53:12]: "Andre Holmes had my affection for a small amount of time last year."
A significant portion of the discussion centers around Larry Fitzgerald and whether he'll remain with the Arizona Cardinals or seek opportunities elsewhere. Jason Moore anticipates Fitzgerald leaving due to cap constraints and dissatisfaction, while Andy Holloway and Mike Wright believe he will stay, citing his legendary status and commitment to the team.
Jason Moore [55:22]: "Larry Fitzgerald is going to the Minnesota Vikings. He's going back home."
Andy Holloway [56:18]: "I think you already got water today."
Despite differing opinions, the hosts agree that the outcome will affect their water bets, adding an entertaining element to their analysis.
Although not a free agent at the time, Mike Wallace is discussed regarding his potential departure from the Steelers due to contract disputes and performance issues. The hosts express skepticism about Wallace finding a productive role elsewhere in the league.
Mike Wright [61:26]: "If he's renegotiating his contract, knowing Larry Fitzgerald as a Cardinal fan, he's staying here."
Jason Moore [62:11]: "Larry Fitzgerald comes back."
The episode wraps up with the hosts reinforcing their predictions through their water bet tradition, where incorrect forecasts result in humorous penalties involving water. They encourage listeners to engage via social media and tease upcoming episodes focusing on other positions and strategies.
Mike Wright [64:58]: "Later this week there should be a my 2014 recap of tight ends and who I project to be in the top five."
Jason Moore [65:06]: "Thank you for listening to another edition of the Fantasy Footballers Podcast."
