To the Fantasy Footballers Podcast with your hosts, Andy Holloway, Jason Moore and Mike Wright.
Andy Holloway
What is going on? It is Thursday, July 2, and we are the Fantasy Footballers and we are back again. Would you believe it?
Jason Moore
It's good to be back. It's always good to record about fantasy football.
Mike Wright
It's good to be back.
Andy Holloway
America, we've got to get Canada, Australia and the world. You'll have to go through like 46 countries.
Jason Moore
The world is.
Andy Holloway
The world of podcasting is broad, my friend. We are the Fantasy Footballers Podcast. We got a great show for you today. We got some news and notes. We're going through the AFC South. We've been doing some divisional breakdowns coming off a great PPR live mock draft show. So if you didn't see that show, that makes sense because it's a. It's a podcast so you can't see it. You hear it, Mike, you.
Mike Wright
You beat me to it.
Andy Holloway
I know. I guess I didn't introduce us. I'm Andy Holloway joined as always by Jason Moore. Yes.
Jason Moore
It's just my and.
Andy Holloway
And Mike the fantasy hitman. Right.
Mike Wright
Hello.
Andy Holloway
We're bringing you some knowledge today on the fantasy football world. I got a question for you. All right. This is the quick question for the day. Hypothetically, this is. I'm pretending to be somebody I got drafted in a fantasy draft. Like I am a part time player, but I'm actually going to be a full time player.
Jason Moore
That's pretty good.
Andy Holloway
Who am I? I'm going for you.
Jason Moore
For me?
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Jason Moore
And now I'm not going with the. You draft him and then all of a sudden he becomes a complete bell cow. However, the guy that I think is being drafted like a complete throwaway who is going to be a full time flex option or better all year long is Danny Woodhead. I think Danny Woodhead is completely PPR or standard. Are you half point PPR or ppr? I think even in a standard he'll be serviceable, but in a half point or full point ppr he's going to be on playoff teams. You know, every league, every league is going to have a playoff team with Danny Woodhead on it.
Mike Wright
I'm going with Reuben Randall. His ADPs in the 12th round. He's going to be the wide receiver too for an up tempo, fast paced offense and that likes to throw. So.
Jason Moore
So who are you, Andy?
Andy Holloway
I'm a Randall as well, but I'm Joseph Randall.
Jason Moore
Ooh.
Mike Wright
I believe you think he's going to be drafted as a part time player.
Andy Holloway
He is right now.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Mike Wright
When the when the real draft is right now.
Jason Moore
Yeah, he would be a first rounder if, if you knew that there was going to be the full time 250 carries.
Andy Holloway
No, no, I'm saying that's my prediction.
Mike Wright
Where, where do you think his ADP will be in August?
Andy Holloway
I don't know why you think the hype train is going to go crazy.
Mike Wright
On him because he's the Dallas running back.
Andy Holloway
Then why isn't he getting drafted like it now? Frank Gore is getting drafted that way.
Mike Wright
Because it's not, it's not cemented.
Jason Moore
I think come draft season he's in the fourth round at least.
Mike Wright
I think he's at least there.
Andy Holloway
And that's still not a full time play. I mean that's not an RB starting running back spot that's behind everybody. So anyway, that's my guy. You got Ruben Randall. I love that pick. I'm really coming around on him. I think he has a chance to be something special this year. If ODB comes down off those numbers a little bit. I mean Eli Manning, Eli Manning, almost the most attempts I think in his career last year. It's up there. He had a very, very good year. I was looking at some Eli Manning numbers. If you want to follow the show you can do so on TwitterFFballers. You can visit us on the web thefantasyfootballers.com and that's where you can actually submit a question for the show. It's up in the upper right corner. Submit a question. You can also call us at 302-464-TFFB and record your question on our voice mailbox. As always, we read a review from our itunes page. So let's go and do that now.
Jason Moore
Reviewasaurus Rex comes in from Gaffer Dudes. He says, I discovered this podcast yesterday and I've already listened to their last four episodes. Love it. I can't wait to see how great this show is during preseason and the regular season. My new favorite podcast period. Then he gives us a hashtag Foot Clan and a hashtag joykbellcow to make Andy happy. So thank you very much gaffer dudes.
Andy Holloway
And also I'm thank you to go.
Jason Moore
Ahead just every our reviews. We have the best. Our Foot Clan that is out there are the best. I won't toot toot myself but I will definitely toot toot the foot Clan. Thank you for the reviews on itunes. You guys are awesome. You help us be a good show and those matter a lot for us. So if you want to be Part of the foot clan. Make sure. Go to itunes, in your podcast app or on your computer and give us a good review. Might just read it. It's hard to pick these out.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I was gonna say there's two things accurate with that. Final hashtag. Joykin cow.
Andy Holloway
He's really wanting to say that. I've been so happy with the rubber banding that's going on on Twitter. A lot of people don't agree with. A lot of people don't because it is a crazy train, my friend. The Abdullah Express is not leaving the station for me. I'm sorry, it's not. And Joy Bell, as we come into news and notes here, we'll skip the. The intro under there. I just want to go right into news and notes because Joy Bell came out and. And who can you trust more than the player himself?
Mike Wright
The most accurate thing you've ever seen.
Andy Holloway
Exactly. Exactly. Joy Bell said he's going to rush for 1200 yards this year. Wow.
Jason Moore
Breaking news.
Andy Holloway
Well, I don't believe that is. Is news at all. I appreciate you putting it in the news section, Mike.
Mike Wright
I was giving.
Andy Holloway
You were trying to give me. Give me some help there. I will say this. And I put it on Twitter this week. If you take the last eight games from Joy Bell last year, 4.5 a carry, it would have had about 1100 on the season, 400 receiving and 10 touchdowns. So that's all I have, is my case for Joy Bell. And I believe having him on a bunch of teams last year and watching Detroit a lot, I believe the coaching staff trusts him. And I believe that when you bring a rookie into an offense and it comes down to the end of the game and he's a guy like Joy Bell who has good hands, I just don't think Abdul is going to establish himself, does he? I feel like he's a great hand.
Mike Wright
Well, no, no, not catch. I feel like Bell's kind of a fumbler.
Andy Holloway
Oh, I don't think he's a fumbler.
Jason Moore
Definitely a good pass catcher.
Mike Wright
But yeah, I'm not disagreeing with that.
Andy Holloway
I'm going to say this, though, because, you know, you're giving me some leeway here on Joy Bell and not, you know, you haven't rode your train into the station yet. But here's the deal. If he's injured, which he is, and I don't. Yeah, I know it's. It's July 1st, but if he's injured going into the year and Abdullah has more opportunity in the beginning of the season, it changes things. Obviously, But I still think even when Joy's healthy, they're going to want him in the mix.
Jason Moore
I think if Joyka's still hurt at minicamp, it makes a big difference because all of a sudden you start developing that trust that normally takes you. You know, you don't get that in a minicamp preseason with a rookie unless he's coming in to be the starter. But if he comes in and gets a bunch of first team reps, now you've got more confidence. And all of a sudden the second half of the year starts becoming three quarters of the year.
Andy Holloway
And to be honest, just the way I play fantasy football is I just don't speculate on those things. I trust what I see. And what I see is Joy Bell is an RB1 in on that team.
Jason Moore
Okay.
Mike Wright
Oh, man.
Andy Holloway
But I have to have to check my ranking.
Mike Wright
Over, over, under three fumbles for Joy Bell.
Andy Holloway
I'm guessing you're going to say over because you got to, you got to tell me something here.
Mike Wright
Five.
Andy Holloway
Well, just cut him. He's going.
Mike Wright
No, no, just cut him. I'm just Five. That's a, that's a fumbler.
Andy Holloway
Okay. So if he holds on to the ball five in a year that was.
Jason Moore
Just last year and the year before.
Mike Wright
4.
Andy Holloway
He's my 15th ranked running back, by the way. All right. Some news out of Eagles camp. This is more what CSN's, Philly, CSN, Phillies. Jeff Mosher. Mosher. Do you know how to pronounce that?
Mike Wright
I'm going with Mosher because that sounds way cooler.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Expect Zach Ertz to make a sizable jump in snaps this season. I think we all want to see it. Are we going to see it?
Jason Moore
We are going to see it. We are going to see it. I am confident in that. I think that they, they're expecting that. They've already been talking about their future number two tight end and so they're putting Ertz into that first spot. I think he's going to play 75% of the snaps. And if he does that and you just extrapolate the same stats, not that he gets any better, which I think he will also get better. He would be a fantastic tight end. He's currently my number one targeted tight end. That's who I'm looking for in drafts because I like where his value is. I can get him very late. But I am. I said that last week and that was one of the guys we were looking for on the mock draft. Or I was Zach Ertz I really like because I think he's going to get on the field more.
Mike Wright
My, my confidence level in Kelsey is 100%. That's why I will take him in the fifth round. But if I miss on Kelsey, I agree with Jason. One of my top targets is I'm going to fly on Ertz as well as Ifert. Yeah, we're talking about Ertz right now.
Jason Moore
But.
Mike Wright
But Ertz, because last year, playing only 50% of the snaps, he finished with a stat line of 58, 702 yards and three touchdowns. So you can expect the touchdowns go up in the yard.
Andy Holloway
He'd easily go. Macklin's gone, so there's a good chance he could be one of, if not the top receiving target on the year.
Mike Wright
Yeah, he will be a beast if he plays like 70%.
Andy Holloway
Marshawn lynch told Conan O'Brien he considered retiring before the Seahawks gave him a new contract that included $12 million in 2015. We talked to Brian Tesh a little bit about Marshawn Lynch. We know he likes to play football, but we also know he's an eccentric dude and he could hang it up at any time. So is this more of a warning to dynasty guys?
Mike Wright
Yeah, that's why I threw it in the news. I thought people need to be aware that this could be the final year of Marshawn lynch of the beast mode where his contract is set up. That Seattle can easily get rid of him after this year. He's probably going to be a ferocious beast if they're. If Seattle's looking at it that way and they're just going to wear him out. But it's just something to think about. If you can get good value on lynch right now, I would be more inclined to take it.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Mike Wright
And a keeper in a keeper dynasty. Side note. Did you see. Mark, did you see this Marshawn on Conan?
Andy Holloway
Is this. Did he dive into a.
Mike Wright
He dove into a pool of skittles.
Jason Moore
Very nice.
Andy Holloway
I'm amazed he went on Conan. I feel like all of his.
Jason Moore
Conan.
Andy Holloway
Well, no, I just mean the like publicity. Public eye.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
I mean maybe that's just reserved for reporters, I guess because outside of the.
Jason Moore
Locker room he's actually pretty great. That. That. What was it during the super bowl was super bowl when he was with Conan and playing Gronk on.
Mike Wright
They were playing Mortal Kombat was awesome.
Jason Moore
You've got it. If you're listening, go Google that video. Maybe we can tweet it out. That video was so funny.
Andy Holloway
All right, our last bit of quote unquote news because not a lot has actually Happened on the field between Tuesday and today. I didn't even see this. So ESPN's Ron Jaworski says he likes the future of the jets with Geno Smith at quarterback. So Mike, you threw this in there. What's the story?
Mike Wright
I feel like we haven't talked very much. Jets and Geno Smith because he's kind of a whipping boy and laughing stock because he's not been very good after his draft fall.
Andy Holloway
So many interceptions fell to the second.
Mike Wright
Yeah but he, he's not been in a quarterback friendly system. He hasn't really been given the weapons to succeed. And in his final four games last year he completed 65% of passes, six touchdowns to two interceptions. I mean that's a fantastic ratio. Now you have Decker can move back to his real role of being a wide receiver too. And you throw in Brandon Marshall, Jason Morrow while they're, they're not really predicting huge things but he's still a solid player. There's, he's now he's getting weapons and now he's got an offensive system that he should be able to thrive in far more than what he's been playing in.
Andy Holloway
I've actually been targeting Brandon Marshall on a lot of MFL 10s and mock drafts because he's just so far down the ADP list right now. And you know, maybe Jason's right, maybe he's just what he was in Miami. But even that was still good. That's what I was gonna say. He's going to be the number one target for Geno Smith who can throw the ball and Marshall pretty much catches what's around him. I mean guys probably soured on him after last year but. But that was a lot of injury and a lot of upheaval in I mean they were just a terrible offense last year in Chicago. So. Other bit of news if you are getting ready to play some fanduel in the upcoming season, don't forget to use the promo code ballers when you sign up if you want free money dollars. I would skip the code if you don't want free money but if you do want up to 200 free dollars go ahead and use the code ballers when you sign up for free and helps the show.
Mike Wright
Come on Foot Clan, we need some help.
Andy Holloway
Also fantasydraftwizard.com we mention it every show during the off season. If you're mock drafting because it's free, you can go on there, grab a different draft position, do PPR, do regular drafts. We used it on the live PPR mock draft show on Tuesday. So check it out. Fantasydraftwizard.com I got one other piece of news.
Mike Wright
Uh.
Jason Moore
Oh, let's hear it.
Mike Wright
This is an audible.
Andy Holloway
This is. This is Foot Clan related.
Mike Wright
Oh.
Andy Holloway
And we. Obviously, we get a lot of questions from all you listeners out there and we want to do our best to answer them. So we answer them on the show, we answer them on email, we answer them on Twitter, and we're adding a new dimension to that, closer dimension. A closer dimension that's called YouTube. So we're actually answering listener questions on YouTube. We have a few of them up there now. Mike and I and Jason are going to be just going through the inbox, going through stuff we didn't get to on the show and answering those questions on YouTube. So go on to YouTube, search for the fancy footballers, subscribe to our channel, and then you'll see those answers coming through there. We're just doing everything we can to get those questions answered and bringing you as much fantasy footballers as we can.
Mike Wright
I can't get enough. Personally, Yeah, I was pretty good.
Andy Holloway
Wish there were more.
Mike Wright
I go to. I put her. I put us on a playlist on YouTube and that's what I sleep.
Jason Moore
That's my job, Mike.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I know.
Jason Moore
Let's get divisional.
Andy Holloway
You like that drop?
Mike Wright
You know what?
Andy Holloway
A lot of people don't know this. I'm just gonna say it right now. Shout out to the fantasy. Shout out to the fantasy. Because he makes all our drops. And when I say makes our drops, he doesn't just, like, mix music he finds on the Internet.
Jason Moore
No, no, no. He is.
Andy Holloway
He's a musician. He actually does that music.
Mike Wright
Thank you, fellas.
Andy Holloway
I appreciate it. Pretty good stuff. So today we're getting divisional. We're going through the AFC south, everyone's favorite division. You know what's so funny? I really want to talk about this division.
Jason Moore
Yeah, it's fun to talk about, but, I mean, it's. It's not the strongest. I would just put it that way.
Andy Holloway
You're right. I want to talk about dirty. I want to talk about two teams.
Mike Wright
Colts, and we have to talk.
Jason Moore
I think.
Andy Holloway
I think, Yeah. I think two teams make the playoffs out of this division.
Jason Moore
Wow, that's crazy. I'm going right now and saying fire the music up again.
Andy Holloway
Houston Texans make the playoffs.
Jason Moore
No, that. Yeah, let's do it. Water.
Andy Holloway
Bet we're starting with the Houston Texans. Talking fantasy football changes. Yeah. We just made a bet that the Houston Texans are making the playoffs, which I believe. You bet me last year, Mike.
Mike Wright
I Bet you. No, I bet you two years ago when everyone said they were going to win the super bowl and I called them. Not making the play.
Andy Holloway
Just get ready. Just get ready. Houston Texans. They were a great rushing offense last year. It's one of the reasons Arian Foster is my number one running back this year. They were fifth in the league last year on the ground. No competition for Arian Foster out of that backfield. So that's why I like him. On offense, though, they were. They were not a good passing team. 24th in the league. Still concerns about that again this year they lose Andre Johnson. Ryan Fitzpatrick is also gone. They added Jalen Strong in the third round of the NFL draft. And they added Brian Hoyer. Yeah. And Cecil Shorts to the team.
Mike Wright
So subtraction by addition.
Jason Moore
Yeah, that's correct.
Andy Holloway
Is that. Is that Brian Hoyer?
Jason Moore
Yes, that is.
Andy Holloway
Hashtag subtraction by addition.
Mike Wright
Oh, it's so brutal.
Andy Holloway
If it wasn't true. Ryan Mallet for president. Give me your impressions. Fantasy impressions from the Houston Texans, the future playoff team, playoffs, and here. Part of the reason, by the way, is because of those other two teams in this division. But go ahead.
Jason Moore
And that does make sense. There are some wins to be had in this division.
Andy Holloway
Weren't they right on the wild? They were in the wild.
Jason Moore
They were close to it. Here's why. I think that they actually don't get it, because I love the Houston Texans. I enjoy watching them. I like their defense. Who doesn't love J.J. watt? However, I think that they have a serious problem in a downgraded quarterback this year. And I actually think it hurts a lot of the guys that we love. I think it hurts Arian Foster. I think it hurts DeAndre Hopkins. I went up and I looked at the. At the games last year. I personally think Ryan Fitzpatrick is a good quarterback.
Mike Wright
I second that most.
Jason Moore
I mean, he's not a world beater, you know, he's not going to take you to the super bowl. But he is a serviceable, good quarterback. And by the way, I think he plays more games this year than Geno Smith. But that's besides the point for the jets last year when Ryan Fitzpatrick didn't play. Okay, so DeAndre Hopkins has his breakout year, right? He averaged, I think it was like 15.8 yards per catch. He was a beast. He. He had three games, three games all year where he averaged under like seven yards per catch. They were all without Fitzpatrick, and there were three danger.
Andy Holloway
The reason we like Fitzpatrick is if you're gonna have a mediocre Quarterback. You want one that's gonna just throw it down the field?
Jason Moore
Yes.
Andy Holloway
That's pretty much his story. If he wasn't mediocre in actual football, he wouldn't have bounced around so many times.
Jason Moore
And so I think that with the quarterback regressing, I think DeAndre Hopkins stepped forward. Look at it this way too right? Nobody's really talking about the fact that, you know, Andre Johnson left this team. You know, everyone's talking about Andre Johnson joining the Colts, but that is they were. He was their number one target. You know, DeAndre Hopkins wasn't the number one. He might have had the most yards because he had that long yards per catch. But Andre Johnson was your number one target, your number one reception receiver last year. They lost him and they lost their starting quarterback. I think that's going to be hard to just ignore. And I think teams can focus a little more on the run. I don't think it matters because Arian Foster is amazing. But I do think there is some regression there. And from fantasy.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
I mean, it's hard for me to argue with going from Fitzpatrick to Hoyer and Mallet as. As you know, if. If anything, it's going to be a wash.
Jason Moore
Right.
Andy Holloway
But let me ask this question to you, Mike. Cecil Schwartz or Jalen Strong, who do you think has the better fantasy year?
Mike Wright
Cecil Shorts.
Andy Holloway
Okay.
Mike Wright
I have a.
Andy Holloway
Probably all be on the field.
Mike Wright
Yeah, Shorts. Shorts could be one of those sneaky guys. He. He really hasn't done anything for since 2012. But an interesting stat of I just poo pooed Brian Hoyer. But did you know or did you remember The Browns started 6 and 3 and they were in two of those losses, which were divisional games, were just a couple points. So they were a few points away from being 8 and 1 with Brian Hoyer.
Andy Holloway
That's why I like Houston. Not because I think they have a good quarterback, but because I think the recipe for success is ideal. Identical for Houston as it was for Cleveland last year. Except for you got, I think a better running game with Arian Foster in Houston. You got a better defense in Houston.
Jason Moore
I can agree with all of that. But if we are agreeing with that, that cannot speak that well for DeAndre Hopkins. And I've been all about DeAndre Hopkins. I love he is so talented and so he's coming into his third year. You expect a step forward, but if the team starts focusing more on that run, which you have to do if you have Brian Hoyer as your quarterback.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, but did that matter for Josh Gordon? I mean if you're a supreme talent, you're getting all the targets.
Jason Moore
I mean, he was Josh Gordon really, the Brian Hoyer. No, no, no.
Andy Holloway
What? I'm not. That's not my point. My point is.
Jason Moore
That matters.
Andy Holloway
No, no. My point is that Josh Gordon was successful on a team whose recipe was conservative offensive football in a running game.
Jason Moore
Right.
Andy Holloway
And he was a monster. He was the number one wide receiver. Hopkins is a. You know, he is a star. He's a star.
Mike Wright
Now. Now with Hopkins, you're. You're talking. Where did he go? Hopkins had 127 targets. Andre Johnson leaves. That's 147 targets last year hole that needs to be filled. And if you're gonna fill those targets to a bulk of them to Hopkins, he's just going to be a. He will de facto into being great.
Andy Holloway
My number eight in standard leagues and he is Mike's number 13 in center leagues as of a few days ago.
Jason Moore
And he is my number nine. Nope. Eleven.
Andy Holloway
Sorry. Well, that's. That's wide receiver one range for sure. Let's. Any closing thoughts?
Mike Wright
Yeah, the one. The one last thought I had was I've kind of been trying to point people to this on Twitter whenever they. They show me a draft with Foster, handcuff with blue, but Brian Tesh talked about it a little bit. They signed Chris Polk, and Polk had some success in Philadelphia. And it wouldn't surprise me. This is one of the training camp things that people need to watch if Chris Polk ascends the depth chart and actually becomes the handcuff to Foster, because the. As much as we love Foster, handcuffing him is a preferable thing to do.
Andy Holloway
I think Jason and I talked about this off air a little bit. I thought Polk was the guy that would ascend to that role. He thought Blue would. Would do it. So I am curious to see who.
Jason Moore
Yeah, it's become fashionable. Polk is Bernard Pierce. To me, he is someone that gets some good things said about him from time to time, but he's not.
Mike Wright
Well, either is Blue.
Andy Holloway
All right, let's move on. Now. We don't. We can't spend all day. Although we probably should spend more time on that team than some of the others. The Indianapolis Colts bring you the law firm of Dorsett, Moncrief, Hilton, and Johnson. Put those guys in order.
Mike Wright
Mike, say it again. The Hilton, Johnson, Moncrief, then. Did you say Dorset?
Andy Holloway
Correct.
Mike Wright
Yeah, that's how I'm going.
Andy Holloway
Jason.
Jason Moore
I would go. I would go Hilton, barely. Andre Johnson, Dorsett, Moncrief. Dorset finishes the year ahead of Moncrief.
Andy Holloway
I go Johnson, Hilton, Dorsett, Moncrie. Whoo.
Mike Wright
That's interesting.
Andy Holloway
Ty Hilton is not going to be on any of my teams this year. I can promise you that right now. No disrespect to Ty Hilton, the player, he changes the game for the Colts. He's a great player and he had seven touchdowns last year and I believe two or three multi touchdown games. So that is just not the kind of consistency I want to see out of my wide receiver. One, that's my problem.
Mike Wright
So. But Andre two, Andre Johnson is a.
Andy Holloway
He's not a touchdown monster.
Mike Wright
Right.
Andy Holloway
I know that's what he's getting to. Yeah. But I think he has the potential to put up nine or ten with Andrew Luck.
Jason Moore
I think he also has the potential to get near 100 catches. Andre Johnson this year. That's possible.
Andy Holloway
Did you have him statted out? Jason, do you have Andre Johnson set it out?
Jason Moore
I believe I do. Let me see.
Andy Holloway
I'm curious where you have him compared.
Jason Moore
To me because I have Andre Johnson at 16. So just outside of wide receiver one.
Mike Wright
You guys are both extremely high on Johnson.
Jason Moore
Yep.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I have Andrew Johnson with 101 catches and nine touchdowns.
Mike Wright
Now when I, when I was going through it, I'm not nearly as high on Johnson as you guys. Although I completely understand what the argument is, the argument of the potential. Because I believe what you would say is look at what Reggie Wayne did is that kind of.
Jason Moore
And look at what Andre Johnson has done his entire career with nobody ever throwing him the ball. Right.
Mike Wright
But he's. He's a good bit older now.
Jason Moore
Yeah, yeah.
Mike Wright
But, but Reggie Wayne in 2012, 195 targets. 2013 only played the seven games but extrapolated was 132 targets 116 last year. So there's been a big decline for that, that position. So I'm just not sure that you put Andre Johnson in that. That number magically inflates again.
Andy Holloway
Well, this is a team that was the number one passing offense last year. They're the number three offense overall. Their losses were Trent Richardson and Hakeem.
Jason Moore
Nick addition by subtraction.
Andy Holloway
It was tough because my, my mind didn't let me like equate losses with those two guys. They added Philip Dorsett, Andre Johnson, Frank Gore. They added a guard and they added Josh Robinson in the sixth round who I believe is the handcuff to own for Frank Gore. Just for the record.
Mike Wright
And I still like Dan Heron.
Andy Holloway
That's fine. I know I don't blame you for that.
Jason Moore
I missed it. Andy, who did you say? Because that was a question.
Andy Holloway
Josh Robinson. Yeah, I've been talking about him for a while. I just think they really like him and I think he's the guy that you'd want to own. I think Heron is just a guy.
Jason Moore
He's going to be the backup.
Andy Holloway
He's the alpha to whoever is.
Mike Wright
Yeah, but maybe he's the turban who.
Andy Holloway
Gets the role instead of Michael, which would be the argument. Right. Because turban comes in and he does a bunch of things. Okay. Versus a rookie that comes in and maybe blows up. But he's not trustworthy.
Mike Wright
And he. While he's not spectacular in the running game, I mean, that's not necessarily the strong point of the Colts anyways. But Dan Heron is great in the passing game.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. And he very well could be the handcuff. I'm curious to see what preseason looks like. Talk to me about their tight end position. We'll also get to Andrew Luck here. But if you were drafting one of the two tight ends, you would be drafting who? Jason.
Jason Moore
Man, I was all about Kobe Fleener. Oh, no, I was. I said this after the draft. Yeah, back in that truck up. No, no, no. I said this a long time ago because as soon as they drafted Philip Dorset, I. Yeah, Kobe. Kobe. You were once my man. In this off season, I thought that you had big potential, that they were going to get you the ball. Kobe. But they went and drafted Philip Dorsett who is going to get on the field and you're going to be off of the field. So I am off the Kobe Fleener train.
Andy Holloway
That's because as you've come to know on this show, we don't stick with what we say if the information we get changes be water.
Jason Moore
Oh, and speaking of what I just. Yeah, speaking of what I just said, if you are in a dynasty league or even a, like a, you know, half keeper league, like where you keep half the guys, go get Philip Dorset. Because I don't think Ty Hilton is going to be the star there in the long term. I really don't.
Mike Wright
I think he's gone next year.
Jason Moore
Yeah, exactly. I think Philip Dorsett is going to be a possible hall of Fame entry at the end of his career because he's going to play his career as a number one with Andrew Luck.
Andy Holloway
Answer this question. I would draft Andrew Luck in the third round.
Mike Wright
Fourth round.
Andy Holloway
What? The fourth. Huh?
Mike Wright
Fourth round.
Jason Moore
I would definitely draft him in the fourth. I would love. But I would Be willing.
Andy Holloway
You're going to shock some people though, Mike, when you say that. So why don't you tell people why? Because sometimes when we go against the grain a little bit, which that is going against the grain, a lot of people have Luck as the number one quarterback in the fourth round. You're telling me you're passing on him in the third round. So tell me why.
Mike Wright
It's all about the point degradation of the other positions. When you're talking about running backs and wide receivers, you have to play multiples of that position. So the, the pool of points declines rapidly for running, especially running backs. And while you look at quarterbacks and Andrew Luck and Aaron Rodgers are the superior fantasy plays. And in Andrew Luck, I mean, maybe.
Andy Holloway
He was on a lot of championship games last year.
Mike Wright
The only, the only real difference with Andrew Luck last year is his touchdowns skyrocketed. And I'm not doubting the talent of Andrew Luck, but there's a path, there's a possibility that those regress down a little bit. But quarterbacks, the points do not degrade like they do for running backs where a quarterback that I can draft in the ninth round is still only just a few points.
Jason Moore
Yeah, because you're not playing Andrew Luck while someone else is playing Geno Smith. Geno Smith isn't going to be the 12th guy. You're, you're playing Andrew Luck against, you know, a Tony Romo or someone like that. So the point differential isn't as big as you think it is. Whereas, you know, you look at the running backs where you could have.
Mike Wright
I'm, I'm playing Frank Gore against somebody's backup like Gio Bernard. Like Frank Gore or Gio Bernard. And those are, those are differences in, and negotiations and things that you have to concede when you take a high draft pick. Kind of like you saw with our, our ppr, our live PPR draft, we had to concede a little bit at the wide receiver position.
Andy Holloway
That makes sense. I looked it up for the fun of it. He was the fifth most common player on championship teams last year.
Mike Wright
But where was he drafted last year?
Jason Moore
Yeah, yeah.
Andy Holloway
And that. Well, that's obviously. Yeah. And that's what we're talking about now because you're preparing for the draft. ODB was number one, by the way, as you might expect.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Mike Wright
Because his back, because he was free.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Let's talk about the playoff bound Jacksonville. No, I'm just kidding.
Jason Moore
Water bed.
Andy Holloway
You know, I bet that a little bit last year I was, I really wanted to believe in Gus Bradley. Because I think he's. I think he's actually a good coach. He just. They don't have anything there. The Jacksonville Jaguars do have some fantasy relevance this year, which is something that we couldn't really talk about last year. We tried to make the case for Toby Gerhardt last year, but this year they bring in TJ Yelden in the second round. They draft a guard in the third round in a tackle as well. They bring in. And they bring in Stefan Wisnowski, but from Oakland, which was top five center around there. He's somewhere around there.
Mike Wright
He's elite, but he's a good center. And they brought in Jeremy Parnell, the tackle from Dallas, and they bring in.
Andy Holloway
Julius Thomas, who, whether you love him or not, for fantasy. He changes the offense because he's a red zone threat. He's a threat off the line. And then Alan Robinson is back.
Mike Wright
Hooray.
Jason Moore
There are things to like about the defense.
Andy Holloway
There are, there are. So Yelden is slotted in as a three down back out of the gate.
Jason Moore
That I take a little bit of.
Mike Wright
Issue with that because I'm actually pumping the brakes.
Jason Moore
I'm hearing that more and more that he's slotted in as a three down back. And it's like, where did that come from? Because I haven't read anything from the.
Mike Wright
Coach from the second down or the second round pick. That's where it's assumed.
Jason Moore
Yeah, exactly. But it's like, I mean, look at the money you gave Gerhardt. Look at, you know, you've got still Denard Robinson. It's not like there's nobody else there where he's going to come in and just be the complete bell cow. But people are assuming he is. And I think he's talented and I think he's going to get opportunity and I think the O line is going to be good enough to give him something. But you got to be careful because I hear everywhere right now TJ Yelden is locked in as a three down back. It's like, no, he's not. He hasn't played a game. The coaches haven't said that. Where is this coming from?
Mike Wright
Yeah, and the coach comes from. Bradley's from Seattle. Right. So. So he's got that. He's somewhat of the. The Pete Carroll tree. Right. And I hopefully I'm not talking out of my butt right now, but Seattle is, is famous now that they don't care who they pay. If you're the best player, you will play. So that's kind of what I think is the thinking of what? The Toby Gearhart contract and T.J. elden coming in.
Andy Holloway
I think we're going to get the opportunity to actually see what Blake Bortles will be. He was thrown into the fire last year. Now he actually has some weapons. With Robinson healthy, with Marquis Lee, Alan Hearns, Julius Thomas, TJ Eldon, Denard Robinson will do damage in the passing game out of the backfield at least a little bit. So I'm curious to see. Question for you. Justin Blackman is a wide receiver. That's a trick question.
Mike Wright
4. I mean, we're talking about a different team already. We're done with. Oh, I was on Justin Hunter.
Jason Moore
No, Justin Blackman is a wide receiver.
Mike Wright
Justin Hunter, wide receiver.
Andy Holloway
Eight days gone by. Days gone by.
Jason Moore
So who you know, you, Mike, are madly in love with.
Mike Wright
Huge.
Jason Moore
The target monster.
Mike Wright
Yes.
Jason Moore
Right. And for good reason. He was an exceptional wide receiver. But one of the things that I didn't realize until really looking at this team recently is that Cecil Shorts led them in targets in targets.
Mike Wright
He did.
Jason Moore
He had 110 targets and is now gone. And so Allen Robinson is looking great. And I need to also, because of this information, I need to realize I've been a little bit too low on Julius Thomas. I still don't see him as. I do not see Julius Thomas as finishing as the fourth, you know, tight end. Like a lot of people, I see him going off the board as the fourth tight end quite often. I think that's ridiculous. He won't be on any of my teams because of that. But there are targets to go around here. And I think that Allen Robinson's rapport and his talent is going to really be truly a target monster.
Andy Holloway
All right, we got to move it on. Got to move it on to Tennessee.
Jason Moore
Do we have to?
Andy Holloway
I think the Tennessee fans will take offense to that, Jason.
Jason Moore
I believe they will. And know that we have been Cardinal fans through it all.
Andy Holloway
They are. I will say this, the Tennessee Titans are a team in which, I don't know down from up, from a fantasy perspective. I really don't. They bring in, you know, a ton of players in terms of the offensive side of the ball. Dorielle, Green, Beckham. They bring in David Cobb. They bring in Harry Douglas. They bring in Marcus Mariota, obviously as the first pick in the draft. And so I mean, the second pick. Sorry, but. But what? Who, who gets the targets? I mean, Justin Hunter's still there. Kendall Hunter or Kendall Wright is there. I just don't know what to make of them because we don't Know what? They're getting out of the quarterback position. We don't know who's their starting running back. And I, you know, for me, I still, if I had to put money on a wide receiver, I put money on Kendall right at the top of my list.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I have crapped all over Mariota. I think as, as you know, I've, I've really spoken down of him because I don't see him as a great.
Andy Holloway
Are you saying it in past tense now because you're about to build him up or are you just saying that?
Jason Moore
I'm just speaking the truth. That I have said that. That I don't think he's going to be a great quarterback and a fantasy stud. However, last year, you know, they had Charlie Whitehurst play seven games. They had Zach Mettenberger play seven games, that Jake Locker play seven games. As far as play, obviously that's more than 16. They played 21 games. But, you know, Whitehurst started five, Locker started five, Mettenberger started six. How do you. I mean, that's just hard from a, from a tool perspective. You look at Delaney Walker, right? Delaney Walker was a great option for a while because of that. Yeah. And it's so, it's like, I do think that Mariota will help this offense from a consistency standpoint because just like you, I don't know up from down, you don't know what to expect. And do you really want to gamble? Like when you're taking your chips and going, I think this is the place that improvement is going to happen. I'm probably not going to put my chips in Tennessee and with Ken Wisenhunt, but we will know, I believe, what's going to happen. And assuming he doesn't get injured, there's going to be some consistency. And whoever starts getting those targets early, I'm going to look to them early in the year.
Mike Wright
Ken One of Ken Wisenhunt's alleged claim to fames is to be a quarterback guru of sorts. He was there when Big Ben ascended. He was at the helm when Kurt Warner's career resurged. Whether or not that's whizzing Hunt and. But I mean, we're talking about a trend. He went to San Diego and Rivers. Rivers career turned around when he went over there. So it's possible that Mariota can be successful in the NFL with Ken Wiz and Hunt you're talking about, he is insanely athletic for a quarterback and usually you have to pick, do I want someone who's accurate or do I want one who's an athlete and he's both. He's extremely accurate. He'd add up his final year. 68% completion, 42 touchdowns, four interceptions ran in 15 touchdowns.
Andy Holloway
I was just going to say, I mean we don't, when we do this show, we don't know if we're going to agree or disagree sometimes. You know, I, I'm not saying this just to disagree with you, but I'm very high. Jason, on Marcus Mariota, I have him as my 15th overall right now and it would not surprise me if he is a quarterback one for teams in fantasy this year.
Jason Moore
You're saying that because of the legs and the running, Correct? Gotcha.
Andy Holloway
I can tell you exactly what I have for him on projections. I have him at 3,100 yards, 19 passing touchdowns. I projected him very similar yards wise as Geno Smith actually did, but without the interceptions because he is an accurate, smart football player and I have him running for about 550 yards and about four or five touchdowns on the ground. I just think when we've seen that kind of production even from guys that aren't great quarterbacks in terms of the NFL, I just see the fantasy production as having a lot of upside. Like I'd love in two quarterback leagues if you can get Mario, you know, if you can get him later, he's a great 2 quarterback league flyer because you're going to draft him in that. I don't know where he's going right now, but he's probably going around the 20th off the board. I just think he's a great flyer to take in those situations. It doesn't mean that Wizen Hunt is going to do anything special there or that team's going to have a great offense. But what Mike said is right. He's just incredibly athletic and he's a smart guy who I don't think is going to come in and throw 20 interceptions is my point. I think he throws nine or 10.
Mike Wright
And you know what's interesting is the now great. Granted that just because you're drafted high doesn't mean you're a great player. But the draft stock that they have around them on that offense you have Kendall Wright, first round pick, Justin Hunter, second round pick, Dorial Green, Bracken Beckham, second round pick.
Andy Holloway
I mean the Harry Douglas is there now, right?
Mike Wright
And he who was very serviceable and Delaney Walker when, when Julio went down. Harry Douglas had a monster year over a thousand yards. So you're, you're talking about an offense that really should put it together and the offensive line Is his getting rebuilt? I mean.
Jason Moore
Yeah, it makes sense.
Mike Wright
There are weirdo bad.
Andy Holloway
That's what I'd be telling myself if I was a team. All of that stuff. That would be the, the rose, rose colored side of things. I mean, I'm not saying it won't happen. I'm not saying it will. I'm just saying that's, that's a spin I'd be taking as a Tennessee fan.
Jason Moore
I just don't believe in the scheme of Wizen Hunt to fit Mariota. I mean, he's always had a pocket immobile quarterback that, you know, Rivers can kind of move. Well, yeah, I mean, Rivers can move.
Andy Holloway
And I just say Philip Rivers can kind of move.
Mike Wright
Kind of.
Jason Moore
But he's.
Mike Wright
When he was younger.
Andy Holloway
I don't think so. I'm curious how many passing army rushing yards.
Jason Moore
Phil Burton, while you look that up, the only other thing we'll say on Tennessee because I'm sure we don't want RBs. Yeah, yeah. Is on the RBs. Sean Green has left and Sean Green got 100 carries.
Mike Wright
I don't think Sean Green left. I think he was kicked out.
Jason Moore
Sean Green was forcibly removed from.
Andy Holloway
Sorry, Sean.
Jason Moore
And so, you know, there are some extra carries to go around. And so whether that. We don't know how that's going to split up between Cobb and Sankey.
Mike Wright
Was I way off?
Andy Holloway
I think Philip Rivers might be the most immobile quarterback. One of the most immobile quarterbacks in the history.
Mike Wright
I just have these, the memories.
Andy Holloway
He has a career 1.8 rushing average.
Mike Wright
So he has one of my three.
Andy Holloway
Career touchdowns on the ground.
Mike Wright
Just remembering him running up to people like jawing at him because he's. He's such a trash talker. So I just in my head have this memory of him being able to.
Andy Holloway
It's incorrect. He actually learned his rushing game from Kurt Warner.
Jason Moore
Yeah. Who learned it from Big Ben. So good luck, Mariota. In that scheme.
Andy Holloway
Big Ben is great. All right, let's move on to the mailbag. We got some time to answer listener questions and we want to answer a bunch of these today.
Jason Moore
Mailbag.
Andy Holloway
You got a question, go to the site, the fantasy footballers.com. submit a question button. You can also call us.
Mike Wright
Leave us. Yeah, sounded like you were telling them, hey, submit a question button.
Jason Moore
That's their name.
Andy Holloway
Benjamin. You can call us 302-464. TFFB. Leave us a voicemail question. I'm excited. We got a bunch of questions, good ones this week. Let's go ahead and answer a few of them right now maybe if I can get this button right.
D
Hey, guys, great show. Awesome feedback. You're my new book II podcast. Question. For those of us who are late round picks or just maybe want to pick a quarterback a little later, but not necessarily wanting to wait. Where do you see the value of a guy like Breeze or a Peyton is this late? Third? Just barely. Fourth. For those of us who know we're not going to get Aaron Rodgers? Our luck. At what point do you start to say, okay, I'm a little down on Breeze this year, but you know, is he a value at first pick of the fourth, you know, tenth pick of the third, at what point does that happen? And if I can sneak a second question in here, I'm sorry, I can't remember which one of you it is. How are you so low on Jimmy Graham? I was lord when you said you'd take him in the six versus Kelsey in the fifth. I'm questioning everything. I love the podcast.
Andy Holloway
His whole life.
D
This guy, what is he, 27 years old? He was an elite producer.
Andy Holloway
I'm with you, buddy.
D
With a two time super bowl team, I can't understand how you're so low on Jimmy.
Jason Moore
Mike, we'll let you.
Mike Wright
I got to find my notes now. Getting called out.
Andy Holloway
Well, we'll talk about the first question. The two examples you gave about for Breeze and Peyton. You know, Breeze ADP right now is the fifth round. Peyton's ADP right now is the fourth round. So as far as going after those guys, that's not where I'd take Brees. Definitely not the first pick of the fourth round.
Jason Moore
No, no. I'm quite low on Drew Brees personally. And what he described is what I'm probably lowest on, which is, okay, I don't want to take one of those top guys, but I don't really want to wait late. I want to take one of those middle guys. That's a value. And those guys are, you know, just people that I don't like. But here's the one guy that I would give you if you want to target a guy in the middle rounds where you're going to get better value than what you're drafting. Matt Ryan. Matt Ryan is going at the very end of the sixth round right now, almost the seventh round, and I've got him slated right now as my number three, I believe, Mike, you've got him as your number three quarterback as well. Matt Ryan.
Mike Wright
Correct.
Jason Moore
So getting him in the seventh, that would be.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Or Breeze in the sixth round. You know, you talked about him in the fourth. If he drops to the sixth, that's fine. Jump on it, Mike. We're leaving you on this foolish island of yours. Did you actually say that? Because when I did, you said sixth round.
Jason Moore
He said he would take Kelsey in the fifth over Graham in the sixth. And when you said it, that's insane. I was this caller because I went.
Mike Wright
Okay, so here's the deal on Jimmy Graham. Jimmy Graham is talented. Yes, but he is the product volume. He is not talented. He's not Rob Gronkowski making stuff out of nothing happen.
Andy Holloway
He has pretty darn close. No, that's exactly how I describe him. He's a former NBA player that leaps out of the building.
Mike Wright
Wasn't in the NBA. That's fallacy College.
Jason Moore
College basketball.
Andy Holloway
That's Jimmy Graham. Basketball players.
Mike Wright
Jimmy Graham has averaged with Drew Brees 137 targets. Russell will. No, Russell Wilson has never had a top target on his team over 100. You're talking about a team of the saints that passed 62% of the time. Three teams passed. Three teams passed more. Seattle passed 46% of the time. Zero teams passed less than the Seahawks. It's volume.
Andy Holloway
I'm agreeing with you. I just don't think we have to hyperbolize Jimmy Graham as an athlete and a player. Just make the argument that he's not going to get a lot of volume. He's a really great player. That's not going to get as much volume on Seattle. I don't know why he's. He's not very good now.
Mike Wright
No, no, no, no. I didn't say he wasn't very good. I said he's not as good as Rob Gronkowski. Where he could take the. The low volume that he's going to get in Seattle and still be a dominant force.
Jason Moore
Well, and I think that the point of clarification on what you said for the caller, it wasn't that you wouldn't take Graham in the sixth. That wasn't like. Of course you would take Graham in the sixth. It was because you like Kelsey so much, you think the value of Kelsey getting him in the fifth.
Mike Wright
Yes.
Jason Moore
When I said is more valuable because you actually have him going nutso. And I can totally see Kelsey going nuts. So this year.
Andy Holloway
All right, let's go ahead and grab another voicemail. Question these guys. All right. There we go.
E
Hey, guys. Love the work you do.
Jason Moore
Thanks.
Andy Holloway
What happened?
Mike Wright
Those are. That's the easiest question we've ever had.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, he just. It's a compliment. Here you go.
E
Hey, guys. Love the Work you do short time listener. But I really love the show. I just had a question about half point ppr trying to target out a couple players. I know it's not a good idea, but out of these players, which would you guys suggest in the second round go with? I'm sorry, I can't think off the top of my head. Jeremy Hill, third round Travis Kelce, fourth round, Batavius Murray or eighth round, Ben Roethlisberger? Which of these would you guys best value? Thanks for the time. Have a good old spot.
Mike Wright
So where's Latavius?
Jason Moore
Is he also. I think he did. I think he said Hill in the second, Kelsey in the third, Murray in the fourth. Was how he said that. I'm pretty sure that's what he was saying. He was saying taking Hill in the second, Kelsey in the third, Murray in the fourth. Okay, and so in a half point ppr, what say you guys?
Mike Wright
In a half point ppr, I'm still. It's not a tremendous value because that's where his ADP is, but I'm taking Jeremy Hill.
Andy Holloway
Well, Big Ben's off the board. So you're saying it was Kelsey in the third versus I take Hill in the second over Kelsey in the third.
Jason Moore
Yeah. Kelsey in the third is not. Here's the truth. Even for me, here's the truth. I think that the more PPR ish it gets, the better Kelsey is going to get. He gets a lot of volume. Obviously the Chiefs are not a deep field type of team, but in the third, it's not that great, so. And I don't really love any of those values. I would go Jeremy Hill in the second.
Andy Holloway
All right, this question comes in from Blake from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He says dear Jamie Cersei and Tyrion. Yes. Ring that shame. First off. Oh, you have that. You have a shame.
Mike Wright
Shame on you being late with the gag.
Andy Holloway
I tried to very slowly read the intro for you too. First off, I just began subscribing to you guys. I love your show in my one point PPR. That's redundant, right? One point no per reception.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
In his PPR keeper league, he's keeping CJ Anderson in the 13th round, Jonathan Stewart in the 15th round, and Allen Robinson in the fifth round.
Mike Wright
Good for you. Alan Robinson.
Andy Holloway
He was planning on going wide receiver, wide receiver in his first two rounds. Antonio Brown and Odell Beckham Jr. Will be gone. And so he's leaning towards Julio Jones and Calvin Johnson because he's a little gun shy on Demarius Thomas this year. Is he crazy to Pass on to Marius Thomas and DEZ for that combo. Also, am I crazy for believing in Allen Robinson and as a steady flex play? No, you're not crazy.
Jason Moore
No, we just talked about that.
Mike Wright
He's going to be a wide receiver too.
Andy Holloway
You're not crazy for either of those. My number one and number two wide receivers are Calvin Johnson and Julio Jones.
Jason Moore
Yeah. The difference between DT DEs, Calvin Johnson and Julio Jones. No one. There is not a single pundit out there who could possibly say it would be, oh, it's wrong to order them in this order. They need to be in that order. This guy's clearly ahead of that guy. Like I've got an order to them, but they're all the same. I mean, it's a pick em game there. So no, that's not crazy. However, I could not even think about what his question was because I was concerned with your one point PPR thing and it dawns on me that you're right. But then it dawns on me we're always saying half point ppr, so really it's a half point prior. That sounds terrible. Yeah, it's a half point pr and that sounds so.
Mike Wright
Yeah, you're right.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, you're right. So I guess we really do say PPR just as a league classification.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Versus really what it means.
Jason Moore
Right. So I think one point people.
Mike Wright
No, no, no. Now we're switching. No fpr.
Jason Moore
It sounds so stupid, though.
Andy Holloway
No, no, we're not doing that.
Mike Wright
I am.
Andy Holloway
Let's answer the question.
Jason Moore
All right. Sorry.
Andy Holloway
He absolutely people's mind.
Mike Wright
Absolutely not crazy at all. Julio Jones, the XL Exposition in the K Shai offense. He's going to feast. And Calvin Johnson, man, he's. He's still got. He's still got elite tires left. Ride it out.
Andy Holloway
Gotta do it. Garrett wants to know who has more upside, David or Duke Johnson.
Mike Wright
Oh, come on.
Jason Moore
David.
Mike Wright
David Johnson.
Andy Holloway
If I had. If you had to make a case for Duke Johnson over David Johnson, what would it be?
Jason Moore
It would. It would be not made. Well, the reason that I would just make it is. I know, I know.
Mike Wright
You got to exercise the brain.
Jason Moore
All right, here's. Here's how I would make the case for Duke Johnson over David Johnson. I would say that they've got a better proven O line that can run well and so an injury could put him ahead. That's the best I got.
Mike Wright
Oh, I would say that he was brought in and they're saying he's a third down back. They're talking about him like Gio Bernard, but the Cleveland coaching staff is a little crazy with who they play and how they decide those things. So maybe they just, hey, Duke, Johnson, you're going to play this week. And then he does well and just runs away with the job.
Jason Moore
I think it's just as simple as there's two guys in Arizona and three guys on the Browns.
Andy Holloway
So you guys both like David over Duke? Yes, I'm with you. Nick from Michigan wants to know any suggestions on how to develop tiers within his rankings? Yeah, that's a good question. What's the way to develop tiers for your rankings?
Jason Moore
I do two things for my tiers and they're super important. Not the things I do, but tiers in general. Obviously when you make your list of guys go through and realize that there is a difference, a guy might be 12th and the next guy might be 13th, but if there's a gap there in talent and that's the end of a good list, then put a big black line, you know, through that if it's on paper or whatever. The other thing that I do is I kind of take all those different tiers and I put them together in categories. So I might take like my tier 2 and 3 of wide receivers and say I would be okay having these as wide receiver twos. And so now I know that these like I would put them in groupings of an RB1 and RB2 because sometimes there's multiple tiers in there. That way it's like an extra tier.
Andy Holloway
Follow up question to that. What do you do to form your tears when I knock you out of the playoffs every year?
Jason Moore
Those just come out of my eyes so easy.
Andy Holloway
Dave from New Jersey wants to know. He says he's been listening to you dudes for months now.
Mike Wright
That's a double O dudes.
Andy Holloway
That's right. Double O dudes, dudes. He loves the show. He says we have sold him on drafting a quarterback late. He says he's been doing a ton of mock drafts on fantasydraftwizard.com as well as Yahoo. Whenever he's drafting with picks one through four, he always goes running back when his second pick comes around. Aaron Rodgers is always there to be picked, often there to be picked between 20 and 24. Basically he got Aaron Rodgers last year and he was a monster. He'd like to wait on a quarterback but he doesn't know if he can pass on one. What's our take? Should he take be taken in the second round or go wide receiver, running back?
Mike Wright
I don't take Rodgers in the the second round to Me, it's kind of a math thing where if you're taking a quarterback that early in the first and second round, you're betting on them having basically a historical year for that player because that's how well they have to produce to give you the value to make up for the difference of losing out on high end running backs and wide receivers while everyone else, or not everyone but other players can take Romo in the ninth round and just be a couple points behind.
Andy Holloway
I think you saw our philosophy on Rodgers because we faced the decision in the early third round of a PPR draft on Tuesday and we were talked into it, which I think was a good value. I mean there were a lot of people who said, yeah, you got to grab in there.
Mike Wright
I would have passed.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I would have too. I would have rather heard. But I mean at least we were.
Andy Holloway
Staring the question down in the third.
Jason Moore
Round and, and I don't think it, I don't think it is crazy if you're at the very back end of the two. It's not that different than the very beginning of the third. If you want to take Rogers there, you can.
Andy Holloway
Brian wants to know should he keep Sammy watkins for a fifth, Devonte Freeman for a 12th, Martavis Bryant for a 12th. Standard scoring 12 team non PPR. I think we're. I'm going Martavius, you grab your hoverboard and go Marty.
Mike Wright
And you fly with Marty McBride. You gun it to 88 miles an hour.
Jason Moore
You ring that thing.
Andy Holloway
Alright? Aaron from D.C. he says hello gentlemen. Keep the fantasy info coming. He's in a 10 team PPR league. It's a keeper league. They keep one at the cost of the previous year's draft position. His options are Joy bell for an eighth, Tom Brady for a ninth, Brandon Cooks for a tenth and Travis Kelsey for a 16th. What say you guys?
Jason Moore
I say you can ring that bell. Am I wrong? Yeah, I would go kelsey in the 16th. I just think it's a throwaway pick for an elite player.
Andy Holloway
I'd love to make the case Rebel, but I'm with you on Kelsey.
Mike Wright
Well, you can ring it. I just want to talk through it real quick. I would take Kelsey. I can understand completely the argument for, for taking Cooks there in the 10th because that's really strong value. But where I would be willing to draft Cooks would be around that fifth and sixth. Sixth round. But I see as Travis Kelsey as an elite option difference maker at his position. I don't see Cooks as that.
Andy Holloway
That makes sense if you want to run your own Mock draft in a couple of minutes. Go to fantasydraftwizard.com check that out. Hop in there. Try to do better than we did on Tuesday. I thought Tuesday went good luck. I thought it went pretty well. I was pretty happy. Felt a little thin at wide receiver, but that was the cost of Aaron Rodgers. Not bad.
Jason Moore
I'm fine being thin on wide receiver. You can get them in the waivers.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I'm with you on that. If there was a position that I'd rather, you know, I want to stud. Yeah.
Jason Moore
And I think we got that in Hopkins.
Andy Holloway
Also, don't forget, check out the website, the fantasy footballers.com.
Mike Wright
If your question was not answered, don't lose hope.
Andy Holloway
That's right.
Mike Wright
Grab a bar of soap. Calm. We're gonna start working on those in the next few days.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. If you haven't heard of YouTube.com it is a video website.
Jason Moore
It's amazing.
Andy Holloway
And people actually, they put. Have you guys ever used VHS tapes? You play them on the tip television. Yeah, they do those, but it's on the computer screen now.
Mike Wright
Correct me, I might be going complete urban legend, but I had heard that YouTube with the. The. The people that created YouTube, they.
Andy Holloway
Mr. Tube.
Mike Wright
Yeah, yeah. Mr. You and Mr. Tube created it because they could not find the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction in the Super Bowl.
Jason Moore
I think that's. I think YouTube was around.
Andy Holloway
That sounds like you get Snopes right out of that.
Mike Wright
Maybe that's why I'm just throwing. Pretty sure it would be awesome if that's why it happened.
Andy Holloway
Did you know Gore actually invented the Internet? Frank Gore?
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Frank Gore.
Jason Moore
Internet brought to you by Gore. Thank you for listening to another edition of the Fantasy Footballers Podcast. Don't forget to visit us on the web at www.thefantasyfootballers.com and follow us on TwitterFFballers.
Fantasy Footballers Podcast 2015 - AFC South Breakdown, News, Mailbag
Release Date: July 2, 2015
In this insightful episode of the Fantasy Footballers Podcast, hosts Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike "The Fantasy Hitman" Wright delve deep into the AFC South, providing listeners with expert analysis, strategic advice, and engaging discussions to enhance their fantasy football experience. From player evaluations to listener questions, this episode is packed with valuable content for both seasoned and new fantasy managers.
Houston Texans
The episode begins with a comprehensive analysis of the Houston Texans. Andy Holloway highlights the strength of their rushing offense, emphasizing running back Arian Foster's pivotal role. At [16:03], Andy states:
"They were fifth in the league last year on the ground. No competition for Arian Foster out of that backfield."
Jason Moore concurs, praising the Texans' defense and defensive stars like J.J. Watt, while addressing concerns about their passing game with the departure of Ryan Fitzpatrick and the addition of Brian Hoyer.
Mike Wright introduces Reuben Randall as a sleeper pick, noting his potential impact in Houston's up-tempo offense:
"He's going to be the wide receiver too for an up tempo, fast-paced offense."
Indianapolis Colts
Shifting focus to the Indianapolis Colts, the hosts discuss the wide receiver options, including Ty Hilton and Andre Johnson. Jason Moore rates Andre Johnson highly, suggesting he could exceed 100 catches this season:
"Andre Johnson this year. That's possible."
Andy Holloway and Mike Wright debate the consistency and touchdown potential of Hilton versus Johnson, ultimately leaning towards Johnson for his proven track record and integration with quarterback Andrew Luck.
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars receive a brief mention, with the hosts acknowledging their limited fantasy relevance but noting potential roster changes that could influence their offensive dynamics.
Tennessee Titans
A significant portion of the discussion centers on the Tennessee Titans. Andy Holloway and Jason Moore explore quarterback prospects, particularly focusing on Marcus Mariota's dual-threat capabilities. At [37:52], Andy projects Mariota as:
"My number 15 in standard leagues... a quarterback one for teams in fantasy this year."
The hosts debate the Titans' offensive line improvements and the impact of new wide receivers like Kendall Wright, providing a nuanced view of Mariota's potential in the fantasy landscape.
Joy Bell’s Rushing Prediction
A heated debate arises around Joy Bell’s ambitious goal to rush for 1,200 yards. Andy Holloway presents a case for Bell’s potential based on his previous performances:
"If you take the last eight games from Joy Bell last year, 4.5 a carry, it would have had about 1100 on the season."
However, Mike Wright and Jason Moore express skepticism regarding injury risks and Bell’s ball security, ultimately recommending caution when considering him for fantasy rosters.
Zach Ertz’s Increased Role
In Eagles camp news, Jason Moore anticipates a significant increase in Zach Ertz’s snaps, positioning him as a top tight end target for fantasy managers:
"I think he's going to play 75% of the snaps. He would be a fantastic tight end."
Mike Wright echoes this sentiment, highlighting Ertz’s potential as a first-round tight end pick due to his enhanced role in the offense.
Marshawn Lynch’s Future
The discussion shifts to Marshawn Lynch, with Mike Wright speculating about Lynch potentially retiring after the season:
"If you can get good value on Lynch right now, I would be more inclined to take it."
The hosts advise dynasty league players to consider Lynch’s potential exit post-2015, emphasizing the importance of securing his value while he remains a dominant force.
Geno Smith and Jets’ Quarterback Situation
Mike Wright brings attention to Geno Smith’s future with the Jets, citing Ron Jaworski’s positive outlook despite Smith being labeled a "whipping boy." The hosts believe Smith could thrive with better offensive support and increased opportunities.
Drafting Strategies and Player Choices
Listeners submit questions about drafting strategies, such as the value of drafting quarterbacks like Drew Brees or Matt Ryan in later rounds. Jason Moore recommends targeting Matt Ryan in the late rounds for superior value:
"Matt Ryan is going at the very end of the sixth round right now, almost the seventh round... my number three, I believe."
Keeper League Decisions
A listener named Aaron seeks advice on keeper league options, choosing between Joy Bell, Tom Brady, Brandon Cooks, and Travis Kelce. The hosts unanimously recommend selecting Travis Kelce for his elite status at the tight end position.
Developing Tiers Within Rankings
Jason Moore advises using tier-based rankings to group players with similar projected values, enhancing draft strategy and versatility. He emphasizes identifying significant gaps in talent to effectively create distinct tiers.
Andy Holloway [05:55]: “Joy Bell said he's going to rush for 1200 yards this year. Wow.”
Jason Moore [09:22]: "I think Ertz, because last year, playing only 50% of the snaps, he finished with a stat line of 58, 702 yards and three touchdowns."
Mike Wright [16:03]: "Arian Foster is my number one running back this year."
Andy Holloway [37:52]: “I have him [Marcus Mariota] as my 15th overall right now and it would not surprise me if he is a quarterback one for teams in fantasy this year.”
This episode of the Fantasy Footballers Podcast delivers a thorough examination of the AFC South, offering listeners strategic insights into player performances, team dynamics, and drafting tactics.
