Bonus.
Mike Wright
This is the Fantasy Footballers Podcast bonus. It is Saturday. Saturday, June 13th. Oh, why is there an echo in the building?
Jason Moore
Just a harmony, Andy. A cacophony if you will.
Mike Wright
You are very awake this morning.
Jason Moore
Well, it's a Saturday and so I'm ready to get at it.
Mike Wright
Welcome to the show. This is a mailbag show. We are bringing an extra episode of the Fantasy Footballers Podcast to you this week because we wanted to answer all of your questions that you've been sending in. We had a pretty jam packed show on Thursday. If you didn't catch it, make sure you download it on itunes. Listen on the Web the fantasy footballers.com we interviewed Brian Tesh, the correspondent for fantasypros.com Talking some Seattle Seahawks fantasy relevant players. A lot of guys in Seattle worth talking about. And we had a big live mock draft.
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Mike Wright
And that was pretty fun. What did you guys think about that?
Andy Holloway
I had a good time. It was, I thought, very interesting to hear you guys elaborating your thoughts as the draft is going because honestly, I've only drafted against you guys in which. Which we've done several times, but I've never been able to get inside of your head to see what your thought process was.
Mike Wright
Yeah, yeah. So that was fun. Make sure you check that episode out. Quick question for you guys. What's the worst or best fantasy football trade you've ever been a part of?
Jason Moore
No, yeah, no, yeah, I know. I'm not allowing you to make this.
Mike Wright
I'll go first. You guys think for a moment and by the way, if you don't say the ones I'm thinking of for you, then I'll just bring them up.
Andy Holloway
No, I'll admit it.
Mike Wright
So the best. I'm going to go with best because I still remember this. Yeah, of course I am. Because I don't.
Andy Holloway
I'm going with the best.
Mike Wright
I don't make bad trades. No, I wanted to bring this one up because I remember still, it's in the fantasy lore of my life a few years ago when I was just a budding fantasy football player trying to find my way in the world. We're sitting there right before the trade deadline, my team is on the playoff cusp and I throw out a little trade and I send Donny Avery, wide receiver for the Rams, out there and bring back D'Angelo Williams before he went on his massive scoring tirade, ending up the number one fantasy running back and Leading me all the way into the title game.
Jason Moore
Yeah, but you lost Donny Avery.
Mike Wright
See, that's what I said. No, that's not what I said. That was one of the most fun trades to see work in your direction where you just basically took the best player in the league and walked him through. And at the time of the trade it wasn't like it was going to be vetoed by anybody because Dwell hadn't done enough for the league to think, oh, this is unfair. It just seemed like a trade. Oh, I'm going to add Dwell. And then he just went crazy.
Jason Moore
So the show notes here said, what's the best or worst fantasy trade you've ever been a part of? I was going to bring up taking advantage of 15 year old Andy many moons ago.
Mike Wright
Rick Smith, you were going back to fantasy basketball from the 90s.
Jason Moore
However, however, I will stick with football here since this is the Rick Smith's legit. Yeah.
Andy Holloway
What position does he play?
Mike Wright
Remind me the exact trade he plays the White center.
Jason Moore
Remind me the exact trade last year or the year before last where I also had Julius Thomas thrown in.
Mike Wright
I wish I could remember. I wish I could remember.
Jason Moore
Great. Because it was one of those trades where you make the trade and then you go watch football with your buddy who you just traded and they're all on your team going off against him. It was great. It was just great.
Mike Wright
I think I gave you Julius Thomas and no Sean Moreno right before they both.
Jason Moore
Oh, it was.
Mike Wright
You know, you're not going to win every trade, especially when you make 74 a year like I do. Mike, why don't you share your.
Andy Holloway
I get to do with my best one as well. I'll do the worst. I know the one you're talking about. But my best trade, first off, I will the caveat of I this was the beginning of the year. Towards the beginning I offered Jason, Matt Ryan and Doug Martin. I offered that combo for Run DMC. This was before this was coming off of Jerry McFadden was spectacular. Jason said was ho humming. Ho humming. Didn't get back to me. I made the exact same offer and I got Adrian Peterson and then Peterson decided he was going to run for 2,000 yards all the way to that worked out.
Mike Wright
The thing about that trade is I remember when that happened and you got rid of Doug Martin before he had his six touchdown game or whatever it was. That's the one six, right? It was four but he had felt like six 200 plus yards and he had 200 plus yards and you came boohooing. Into. Yeah, we'll just see me going, I.
Andy Holloway
Can'T believe I made this trade. Adrian Peterson.
Mike Wright
Oh, I traded a better player away and then you didn't. So worked out for you as it often does, you're gonna share your bad ones.
Andy Holloway
So the worst trade was we're in the keeper league so those are in consideration. And I had Jeremy Hill and Peterson was my number one. Clearly he was out. I couldn't. He was clogging a very small bench and I made a deal with a division mates and so I had to sell very high to get Geo because I want.
Mike Wright
I've count three disclaimers so far, Jason.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, right.
Mike Wright
All right.
Andy Holloway
Because the trade is awful. Yeah, but so the trade ended up being Adrian Peterson and a first round pick for. It is awful for Gio Bernard and a sixth round pick.
Jason Moore
Well, but then you won't matter.
Andy Holloway
I won the championship and I played Geo three times.
Jason Moore
There you go. You do what you have to do to win.
Mike Wright
Honestly, it illustrates the fact that even if on paper it looks ridiculous, the year after last year, Adrian Peterson didn't play. Yeah, that's, that's the truth of it. Right. You got rid of your first round pick. It doesn't look great now because you could have kept Peterson and had him in the offseason, blah blah blah, you won the championship. That's what it's all about. Andy Holloway
Bonus.
Mike Wright
I like it.
Jason Moore
Bonus.
Mike Wright
Alright, let's go to an email here from Justin from the 302. He says he's in a 12 team keeper league where he can trade draft picks.
Andy Holloway
Here we go.
Mike Wright
In future years or on draft day for players which I love. These are leagues that I love. It's our 11th year. Awesome. And we are currently struggling with a few members of our league who want to limit the number of picks you can trade and they basically want to try to combat super teams. Right. And eliminate multiple players tanking. He said he remembers we talked about this little on a previous show. So he wants to know if we have any tips, tricks and information for leagues like that. Is there a rule that you should implement to stop tanking, stop super teams or do we just tell people to shut up and deal with it?
Andy Holloway
And we have, we have debated this basically every year of our keeper league.
Mike Wright
It is what happens in a league like this if you can trade draft picks for future years.
Jason Moore
That's what it does it.
Mike Wright
Yes. If it's future year draft pick trading you end up with teams trying to play their team the right way which is trade away your current good players to get future picks if you're not in contention so you can compete the next year.
Jason Moore
Yeah, absolutely. But here's where, and I know I disagree with both of you but I am on the side of the, of the people in this guy's league who want to avoid the super teams and the, you know, getting the economy of the league. Once you're in it for so many years it just becomes this wide gulf and this wide gap where you've got super teams and super awful teams. And so what I would personally do is I would remove the ability to trade future picks, future picks. You can trade any asset that you have now but you don't actually have your pick next year because you don't know where it is.
Mike Wright
You would remove trading draft picks in a draft pick trading league. That's cool. Good solution.
Jason Moore
I would be able to trade draft picks as soon as you have those draft picks. So the season ends and I know that I finished last so I've got the number one pick. I don't have that pick to trade.
Mike Wright
Oh. So off season trading, only off season.
Jason Moore
Trading, draft day trading, those type of things.
Andy Holloway
The only thing that I will, the advice I will give is make sure you have a hard trade deadline. That is not the very end of the season. It has to be. What. What do you. What do we have it slightly after.
Mike Wright
The halfway point did a little earlier than other leagues.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, but that's to make sure that teams don't just sell everything or completely buy.
Jason Moore
There's.
Andy Holloway
There's a point where you. You have to make a decision if you're all in or you're all out.
Mike Wright
That's actually one of the best ways if you want to keep your league the exact same format. That's one of the best ways to combat that is just don't wait till the. Into the year when everybody. It's clear whether a team's gonna stink or they'll be good. Make people make a decision earlier on who they're gonna trade. Another thing we did in one of our leagues is we mixed up the keeper situation to where our. Our teams would keep four players and three of them would go into a lottery and you didn't know which guy you were gonna get. So better players get into the draft. Okay, so why are you raising your hands?
Jason Moore
Well, because you actually brought up a thought that's new to me. What about. Yeah, what about you? Okay, I'm struggling for life and for air. No, what about the concept of. Because I wanted to criticize you for moving the trade deadline. So at least like. Oh, so you just want to not trade during the, you know, middle part of the year.
Mike Wright
You were gonna use that voice too.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I did. But my point is, what if you actually cut even earlier than our somewhat early trade deadline?
Mike Wright
You know, you cut off draft pick trading.
Jason Moore
Exactly, exactly. Cut off draft pick trading super early and then allow regular trading later. You can still trade, you know, future guys for, you know, I like that.
Mike Wright
I think we've actually brought that up before, but not in perfect form like that. Because if you have two draft. If you have a draft pick trading deadline and you have a regular one, that might work.
Andy Holloway
All right, well, guys from our league, we're bringing that up right now.
Mike Wright
Yeah. All right. This email comes in from Alex. He says he's in a 10 team standard league, no PPR, one quarterback, two running back, two wide receiver, and a flex normal league. He says they hold a yearly decathlon with 10 events that should not be mentioned to determine the selection of the draft order. He said he won the decathlon, which I hope that means you won the decathlon. And if you win, did you actually. Right. Did you actually lose? He has the first selection of a slot, so he chooses where he wants to drop in a snake draft. He says keeping More than the first round pick in mind, do you guys feel that there are any draft slots that are particularly advantageous? I've actually seen a lot of questions like this. People want to know where should they draft? Where would they want to draft? He's leaning towards the seventh or eighth because from that position he's been ending up with teams like Foster and Hill.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I was just going to say I'm right. When I'm doing my fantasy draft wizard, the teams I like the most tend to be from that 7, 8 spot. Yep.
Jason Moore
My favorites are the 8.
Mike Wright
I'm with you guys. I'll take that as well. All right, this email comes in from Josh T. He wants some trade analysis. So you guys ready to break this down?
Andy Holloway
Oh, yeah.
Mike Wright
Team one gives up Jordy Nelson, Greg Olson and Joyk Bell. Team two gives up Lev Bell, Dwell and Kobe Fleener.
Andy Holloway
This is dynasty, ppr.
Mike Wright
Dynasty ppr.
Andy Holloway
Ooh, man.
Mike Wright
Yeah, that's. I'm having a hard time. Dynasty, ppr. I think I'd rather be the guy getting Jordy and Olson and Joyk. Yes, I'm going to go with that.
Andy Holloway
I think I would rather be the Lev Bell team. You get. You have the Steelers locked up and Fleener, who's. While he drops passes, he also catches passes, so. And you have the best PPR back for years to come. Probably has a three or four year run coming.
Jason Moore
Yeah. If your team is not that good and you want to play for the Future. I like Le'Veon Bell. The levy on Bell side.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, that's a fair way to say it.
Mike Wright
All right, this email comes in from Daniel G. This is hilarious, by the way. He. He has comically bad running backs and he wanted to make sure I knew that he has both Ahmad Bradshaw and Pierre Thomas on his roster. Mind you, those guys are not currently rostered.
Andy Holloway
You might have the Dallas running back.
Mike Wright
Oh, my goodness. Stop with that. All right. He says, is there any chance either of these guys could make a squad or be a fantasy factor this season? Here is his current running back crop, and it's amazing. Oh, it's incredible. Pierre Thomas, Ahmad Bradshaw. Dry up. Dre Archer. I don't even know how to pronounce his name.
Andy Holloway
No, it's Dre Archer.
Mike Wright
I know who he is. I just pronounce his name. Shane Vereen, Alfred Morris and Alfred Blue. Just to.
Jason Moore
Whoa. Okay.
Mike Wright
Well, he has one running back.
Andy Holloway
No. Vereen and Morris. Yeah, that's label this year.
Mike Wright
So the question is really, do we think Pierre Thomas or Ahmad Bradshaw could land somewhere? Yeah. Yeah, guys get hurt. You know what I mean? Just imagine a situation where Eddie Lacy is injured for the season and Green Bay is looking for a veteran presence. They don't want to hand it to Starks all year long. Maybe Bradshaw land. You know, those are the situations that could give a guy relevance. I think I like Bradshaw more than Thomas to land someplace and be productive, but, man, find yourself some running backs.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, that's rough. Bradshaw likely has a suspension coming from his run in with the law, but I absolutely think that. I joke about it all the time about the Dallas running back, but I still believe that one of those guys is going to fill. Is going to be picked up by Dallas.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I hope you're not.
Andy Holloway
Not necessarily one of these guys, but.
Jason Moore
And, and you know, because he's asking the question, I assume he's like, you know, keeping roster spots with these guys. And personally, if that's your running back core, blow up your team. And, and I mean, not in an insulting way, but like do, don't, don't keep your roster full with the potential of those two guys because if they land in a spot, it's not going to be good enough. I don't think, I don't think these guys.
Mike Wright
No, it would have to be perfect. Yeah. And I'd rather have a. Take a perfect chance on a David Cobb in Tennessee or something than I would. All right. This email comes in from Greg. He's in a family PPR league that gets quite competitive. Money and bragging rights are on the line. We get a point per catch and a half point per carry. Okay, I like that he's in the number four spot in the draft. He traded his second and fourth round picks to gain two picks in round one and two in the eighth round. His question is with his point system, should I go two stud running backs in round one with the fourth and fifth pick or mix it up. Running back, wide receiver, wide receiver. Wide receiver. What do you guys think?
Jason Moore
Definitely two stud running backs in the, in the first, if you get a half point per carry and you can get the studs. The studs.
Mike Wright
There's only so many guys that get volume.
Jason Moore
Yeah. And you get those volume guys. I mean, without a doubt, it's lock it up. Yeah.
Andy Holloway
I mean, even Matt Forte might be good in this system. Am I right?
Mike Wright
You go, am I right?
Andy Holloway
No, but I agree. I would go. I would try. And if the, the high volume guys are there, I'm taking them.
Mike Wright
I agree with you guys.
Andy Holloway
Oh, oh.
Jason Moore
Consensus.
Mike Wright
It's got to be more subtle. Than that, Jason.
Jason Moore
Oh, really?
Mike Wright
You don't actually announce it, it's just. No. All right, Mike, you're in charge of the bell. John writes in via email. He says, Napoleon, Kip and Uncle Rico.
Andy Holloway
Jason's Kip?
Mike Wright
Yep. I'm in a 10 team league standard scoring up to to four keepers. It's a non PPR keeper league. He says through no fault but his own. Oh, I thought he was trying.
Andy Holloway
I thought it said no fault.
Mike Wright
No, but his own. He's reduced his team to some fairly limited keepers. Basically, he is hoping to get a Recommendation as to 4 keepers that he should keep out of these guys. CJ Anderson, Latavius Murray, Isaiah Crowell, Sammy Watkins, Jeremy Macklin, Devonte Adams, Tom Brady and Cam Night Newton. Keep in mind, that is four. You keep four. It's a non ppr.
Andy Holloway
Okay, I'm going Anderson, Murray, Crowell and probably Watkins.
Mike Wright
Yes, Watkins, completely agree with you.
Jason Moore
What, two in a row?
Andy Holloway
We're on fire, fellas.
Jason Moore
Crazy.
Mike Wright
All right, this email comes in from Andrew. He says, hey guys, newer listener here. He says that we are the best podcast that he found.
Andy Holloway
Oh, thank you.
Mike Wright
Am I crazy for keeping A.J. green as his wide receiver two over Arian Foster as his running back two in his 10 team standard scoring league? Yep.
Andy Holloway
Question. Okay, isn't there.
Mike Wright
No, that's not a question for me. Yeah, you're crazy if you keep A.J. green over Foster. In my opinion, I believe in a 10 team standard scoring league, you want Foster. I'm very high on Foster. He's in my top five. So for me, I, you know, obviously there are other considerations because there are other keepers in your league.
Jason Moore
The only other consideration to me is age because Arian Foster is going to play this year. But you know, I think this is another consensus viewpoint from the fantasy footballers, which is try to win your championship. Now we like winning championships and you don't do that by always playing for the future. And so that's why Andy, I think so immediately thinks, yeah, that's crazy because isn't you don't have as good a team, you don't have a good a chance to win the championship. So yeah, keep, keep Foster.
Andy Holloway
Who are you taking? Oh, Foster for sure. All right, we should just call this like the happy hug hour.
Jason Moore
Goodness, that's some footballers like, don't worry.
Mike Wright
It'Ll change because I'll pick Latavius Murray on one of these water bath. No, please, no. This email comes in from Blake. He said he just started listening and our podcast is.
Andy Holloway
Where's the longtime listeners we like the new people, but just lie to me.
Mike Wright
We just let them in there. Definitely his number one source for fantasy information. He's in a full point PPR league and he can keep two players. He knows he's keeping Odell Beckham in the 14th round. Yes, you are his other keeper. He's not really sure on. So listen to these guys. Andrew Luck in the third or Jeremy Macklin in the sixth round. He's leaning towards Luck because people tell me that they. That he's going early. Who do you keep in this situation?
Andy Holloway
Andrew Luck.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I'm not taking Macklin in the say, come on.
Andy Holloway
We green again?
Mike Wright
Yeah, I've got to go. Andrew Luck. So, wow, hit the bell.
Jason Moore
I'm embarrassed.
Mike Wright
I know. All right, this is backfire. This email from the elevator doctor. Hey, guys, great show.
Andy Holloway
The elevator doctor.
Mike Wright
Wait, why does it say. Is that who's from. Yeah, the elevator doctor.
Jason Moore
I wonder. I wonder if he fixes elevators or if he, like, does deliveries, like birth deliveries in an elevator. You know, he's like, either.
Andy Holloway
Either option is amazing. Yeah.
Jason Moore
Is he a doctor that will meet you at an elevator or. Or is it just like, you know, a computer doctor? Is he an elevator doctor? Does he fix elevators? Those are the only two options.
Andy Holloway
I imagine him riding the top of the elevator, like speed.
Mike Wright
And that didn't end well in speed, did it?
Andy Holloway
No, no, but I'm saying he's riding the elevator and he's like fixing it while it's dropping.
Mike Wright
Send a picture of you at work.
Andy Holloway
And then the brakes. The brakes kick on right before he hits the ground.
Mike Wright
Well, see, the elevator doctor says, hey, guys, great show. And no, I'm not sharing it with my league mates.
Jason Moore
Smart man.
Andy Holloway
We don't like you anymore. Elevator doctor.
Mike Wright
He has a keeper question. 14 team, league, big league, standard scoring and keeps seven of the following.
Andy Holloway
Oh, my goodness.
Mike Wright
Get out your notepads, guys.
Jason Moore
Goodness.
Mike Wright
Nick Foles, Teddy Bridgewater, Odell Beckham Jr. Ding, ding, ding. Brandon Cooks, Josh Gordon, Devonte Adams, C.J. anderson, Gio Bernard Latavius, Murray LeGarrett, Blunt, Travis Kelsey, and Jordan Cameron. He wants to know if Gordon's worthwhile keeping him on the team. I think. I think we'll go with Mike selections here. Mike says Kelsey.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, so I'm trying to go through for seven. So I got. Right now I have Kelsey Murray, Geo, cj, odb, and then. So we need two more.
Mike Wright
Wait, you got Murray, right?
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Mike Wright
Okay. And so is Brandon. Brandon cooks one. Yeah, we should make sure.
Andy Holloway
We'll go cooks and Blunt, I wouldn't.
Mike Wright
Blame you if you went. Is there any situation that you would keep Gordon in a keeper like this?
Andy Holloway
No.
Mike Wright
Okay. Just making sure.
Andy Holloway
Oh, yeah. I was. I was too quick on that, I guess. It's. It's possible, but, like Jason had just ranted, we are. We're all about. Right now, and you're locking up an entire spot of a big league for a guy who may or may not come back.
Jason Moore
Do any leagues have a suspension bench spot? If you're.
Andy Holloway
If you're on NFL.com they do.
Jason Moore
For real?
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Jason Moore
That's amazing. Then keep him. If I didn't know that.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Well, that's.
Mike Wright
Isn't that the one place you would not want, Right.
Andy Holloway
The suspension. It's ridiculous. But I will admit that I have used it and it worked out very well.
Jason Moore
There you go.
Mike Wright
There you go. All right. This email comes in from Mike. He says, holla. Or does he say hola?
Andy Holloway
I believe that is hola. Holla is two L's.
Mike Wright
I feel stupid. I know how you guys feel about foregoing running backs in the first two rounds. However, in my league, we can keep one player, but we can only keep them from the sixth round and the following and following from last year's draft. So let's get to the point here. I am looking to keep Lamar Miller in a late round, or would it be crazy to take two insane wide receivers with. Oh, if he keeps Lamar Miller as his keeper, is it crazy to take two wide receivers in his first two picks? No, it's not crazy because you do have a running back at that point, and so you don't, you know, you're not going against the grain too much in grabbing a couple great wide receivers. I think he gave us an example of, you know, if he could end up with Demarys Thomas and Antonio Brown.
Andy Holloway
So demarius, Antonio Brown and Miller. Or Brown, Shady Miller. What do you go with?
Mike Wright
What kind of league is this again? Did he say what it was?
Jason Moore
No.
Mike Wright
So I. I think in both leagues, I take the demarious Antonio and Miller. Yeah, I. I think that's just a lot of firepower. And assuming you could use a third and fourth round pick there to pick up another running back or two, maybe you end up with Gore.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
Miller, Gore, Demarius Antonio. I'm.
Andy Holloway
Okay, I'm agreeing. I'm agreeing. I'm taking the wide receivers, Jason.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I like the consistency of those guys. I still don't know what we have in Shady.
Andy Holloway
And I have to admit, all I could see in My head during that question. I didn't hear any of the question. I just see Andy down in Tijuana screaming out, holla to everybody. Holla, Holla. And everyone's just looking at him with this look of disgust.
Mike Wright
Oh my goodness. I, you know, first thing that came to my head. What can I say? This email comes in from CJ Anderson. Yo, dudes.
Andy Holloway
Yo.
Mike Wright
I've been listening for two weeks and your stuff is great. I gotta say, I pictured the hitman as a fat Italian man.
Andy Holloway
That's pretty close. Or not.
Jason Moore
Not at all.
Mike Wright
No. But the Allen comparison from a few shows ago is way more on point.
Jason Moore
What was that one from the Alan from what's the movie? Hangover.
Mike Wright
Oh, yes, I remember what that was.
Andy Holloway
That. That's. That's accurate.
Mike Wright
Slightly more accurate than the fat Italian man. He says he's got a keeper question, so let's help him out. 12 man league, half point PPR. Love it. That's one of our major leagues. He can keep two players. He has to give up a last round pick if he got him off waivers. So that's where he's focused. He's definitely keeping C.J. anderson for the 16th. Love it. So now he's deciding between three other guys for the 16th. Isaiah Crowell, Jarvis Landry, or Charles Johnson. It's hands down Landry for me. Really? Yep. Half point ppr. Give me Landry. I'm all over him this year. You give me any points per reception at all. And Landry climbs up pretty high for me. I definitely take him over Johnson. I'm not very confident about Crowell and so Jarvis Landry, I'd love to have him paired with CJ Anderson for basically nothing.
Jason Moore
I would take Crowell. You still don't know. I mean, C.J. anderson in the 16th is just great value. But like you said, you know, all off season, Andy, that you don't know necessarily that he will guarantee be the starter. You know, I would like to have Crowell and C.J. anderson. Is that a really.
Andy Holloway
I do.
Mike Wright
Even with question marks around west or Duke Johnson.
Andy Holloway
Absolutely.
Mike Wright
And I will take and a half point PBR.
Andy Holloway
I'll take the gamble in the 16th round because I, I know I can get Landry a little bit later and I.
Mike Wright
Okay, all right.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I'm going with the crew.
Mike Wright
I go with Landry. So no consensus on that one, guys. Quick email from Nick. He says if you drop Le'Veon Bell, should you draft D'Angelo Williams? So let's talk about this because Bell's out for three Weeks. Do you have to handcuff him? No, you don't have to handcuff him.
Andy Holloway
You know you don't. You don't have to handcuff him. I would. I like to because I like to have the handcuff for my big guys just so I can have the backfield locked up. The I think the team with D'Angelo Williams will look extremely different than Le'Veon Bell. He. Williams will not be the motor that makes the team go like Bell is.
Mike Wright
I would go as far as to say I don't think Williams really is the most valuable necessarily guy to own in that situation. Everything I'm read about the way they're going to spread the load around when Bell's gone includes guys like Dry Archer and. Or Dre Archer and. I can't pronounce the dude's name. Dry. Yeah, Dry Dre Archer and. And they have one other guy in the backfield that they're going to use. Who am I? Why am I misplacing his name?
Andy Holloway
Because he's not important.
Jason Moore
Saturday.
Mike Wright
Saturday. I just don't think Dwell is going to have very much what I will say I take a chance on somebody else and play somebody else for those.
Andy Holloway
I want him as my handcuff on my team but I will not reach for him. I will not pay premium price.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I don't.
Mike Wright
And I won't start him.
Jason Moore
What's that?
Mike Wright
And I won't even start him.
Jason Moore
If you had him on your team you probably wouldn't start him.
Mike Wright
Probably not.
Jason Moore
You drafted a lot of running backs.
Mike Wright
Sir, that's probably.
Andy Holloway
I don't think I agree but I'm saying with Andy I wouldn't start him. Week one I would see what's going on with the team. This is more just an overall. I want him for a little bit later.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I feel like if I wasn't going to start on week one his.
Mike Wright
Time I wouldn't come and gone.
Jason Moore
I wouldn't need him to fill up a rough spot. So the answer to the question from me is no, you don't need to draft him. Didn't they.
Mike Wright
They drafted a running back. Didn't Josh Harris. Didn't they draft a running back?
Andy Holloway
You got a computer, look it up.
Mike Wright
I'm almost positive they drafted him. Yeah, Josh Harris is a rookie and they drafted him this year. So I just think they're spread it around a little bit. Just my take based on what I've read. So yeah you can take him for sure. A lot of guys like that security. I like taking A chance on somebody else. This email comes in from David in. He said he just started listening a few weeks back. Loves us. I'm in a 12 team keeper league, no penalty. He needs to keep two guys, Jamal Charles, C.J. anderson and Calvin Johnson. So is he crazy to think C.J. anderson over Megatron? Crazy? No, I don't think it's crazy.
Andy Holloway
No.
Mike Wright
I think we need more information on CJ because right now I have Calvin.
Jason Moore
Yeah, right now I'd go Jamal Charles and Calvin Johnson. If it looks like it's just a guaranteed locked UP backfield with C.J. anderson by the time your keeper deadline approaches, then I would rather have. I'd rather have cj if we know for sure he's the starter.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. With the news coming out of Denver, where. And maybe it's just sour grapes, we don't know. But Monte Ball, we. I think everyone kind of forgot that the guy had his appendix taken out just a couple weeks before the season. And we assume that all NFL players are superheroes, but the guy had major surgery done to the core of his body. So it shouldn't be a complete surprise that he was bad last year. So maybe he's not as terrible as we all thought. Just. That's just a. That's on the anti CJ Anderson side of things.
Jason Moore
The only problem that I have with that is that he didn't have appendicitis all the years before that.
Andy Holloway
No, he was.
Mike Wright
His numbers were really good.
Andy Holloway
The second half of his rookie year was great. That's why he moved up so high.
Mike Wright
Very good yards per carry numbers.
Andy Holloway
So to answer the question, if I have to go today, I'm going Megatron, but hopefully you can hold out and see what the camp news is.
Mike Wright
All right, I'm going to jump over to a voicemail. Question for us gents. Good afternoon.
D
Tripper here just discovered your podcast and love it.
Jason Moore
Stripper.
D
And I got a keeper question for you. Assuming that Joseph Randall wins the job in Dallas, I can keep Jeremy hill in the eighth round or Joseph Randall in the 12th round and a half a point. PPR would really appreciate it if you gave me some love on the show.
Mike Wright
Keep up.
Andy Holloway
Good work.
D
Take care.
Andy Holloway
Oh, man.
Mike Wright
So the question was hill in the 8th, Randall in the 12th. That's not hard for me.
Jason Moore
No.
Mike Wright
Hard for you, is it?
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Mike Wright
Seriously.
Andy Holloway
Because even if. If he.
Mike Wright
What do you need that 8th rounder for? Jeremy Hill all the way.
Andy Holloway
Oh, no, that's what I. But this is an assumption that he wins the job.
Jason Moore
Yeah, but I think winning the Job, I mean.
Andy Holloway
Okay. That's what I was.
Mike Wright
I don't care enough. Between those two draft pick rounds, if you were talking about like a third and a seventh, maybe you got me thinking harder because you can get somebody else at the third round. Oh, but 8th and 12th give me. Jeremy.
Jason Moore
Winning the job is not getting Demarco Murray's carries.
Andy Holloway
Okay. That. These are exactly the points I was going to make. So I'm. I'm glad.
Mike Wright
Okay. Because you were. You were basically hesitating because you thought we'd be over Randall there.
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Jason Moore
Oh, no way.
Andy Holloway
No. So I'm running to the hills with Iron Maiden.
Jason Moore
Oh, yeah. Well, then in that case, there you go.
Mike Wright
One time.
Andy Holloway
I think we got it.
Mike Wright
Just. Just hit it once and move on.
Jason Moore
Far away from.
Mike Wright
Take it away because you can't handle it. That's why I have to run the show here.
Jason Moore
I like the multiple Bell hit. So.
Mike Wright
Email from Jonathan. 12 team, standard scoring league, five man keeper league. He has the 12th pick. He traded his second pick. And Brandon Cooks for another keeper spot. He plans on keeping Lev Bell, Jeremy Hill, Marshawn Lynch.
Andy Holloway
Wait.
Mike Wright
Antonio Brown, Des Bryant and why am I reading this question?
Andy Holloway
I have no idea.
Mike Wright
And Odell Beckham Jr. Okay, so the top six guys.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Mike Wright
On a lot of boards. I just started listening to your show a few weeks ago. He heard Mike's love for Justin for set. He says he has Matt Ryan.
Andy Holloway
Oh.
Mike Wright
He notices that Mike is really high on Matt Ryan as the number three quarterback in his rankings. Should he try to trade his first round pick for another keeper spot to try to keep four set or Matt Ryan. Hashtag airborne, hashtag double stuff, hashtag Tannehill, hashtag, Do you want to play a game?
Andy Holloway
I really like that. Airborne hashtag That's. That's nice.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I think. Yes.
Mike Wright
I don't want to help this guy. He doesn't need any help. Any help.
Jason Moore
I would. I would trade and get another keeper spot and I would take Porset because.
Mike Wright
I just think to be your running back for.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I mean, honestly, if you have that roster and you've got that depth, you've got the championship and there's not.
Mike Wright
Good guys left in your draft apparently either. So trade that first round pick to do it.
Andy Holloway
I'm taking the spot or I'm taking Justin for set. Right there. Because if Justin Forset is who we think we. If all these players pan out, you could trade Justin for that easily. For Aaron Rodgers easily.
Mike Wright
Fair enough. Fair enough. Your team is in beautiful shape and I'd like to inherit it. So go ahead and email me your login information. Your login information on the team.
Andy Holloway
Just put me as a co owner.
Mike Wright
Yeah, not too bad. I want to take a second, guys. I want to talk about our listener league. We haven't done that in a little while. We have a league starting up here in the new season, the Fantasy footballers listener League. TM Trademark.
Andy Holloway
I just trademarked.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Mike, Jason, and myself, we're gonna play as one team. And so there are 11 spots open to listeners, and we have filled a.
Andy Holloway
Couple of those where our team is kind of like Captain Planet. Because when our. When our powers combine.
Jason Moore
Watch out.
Mike Wright
With our powers combined, we draft Latavius Murray.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I get overwritten.
Mike Wright
No. Yeah, we just kind of got to see a preview of that. Yeah.
Jason Moore
If you listen to last week's mock draft show.
Andy Holloway
That's Thursday.
Jason Moore
Yeah. This week's. This previous. Last show. Whatever. If you listen to that, then you pretty much know exactly where we're going to draft if we're at the sixth spot.
Mike Wright
And so what I wanted to mention is we, since we haven't said it in a little while, we're basically looking for you to be creative if you want to get into this league. We have accepted three people so far into the league. We have our Scottish doctor.
Andy Holloway
Are we at three official?
Mike Wright
We are, because then I don't think.
Andy Holloway
That third person knows.
Mike Wright
Okay. We are at least at.
Andy Holloway
We're at two.
Mike Wright
Okay. So Paul, Dr. Football. Dr. Football is in the league. If you didn't listen to an earlier show, he's getting his doctorate in fantasy football, basically.
Andy Holloway
Essentially, yes.
Mike Wright
And so he. He was creative. He sent us some of that information, sent us his. A picture of him out there in the doctorate program. And we also added. Did we not confirm? Now. Now you're making me worried about it.
Andy Holloway
The Chipotle site was confirmed. I can't.
Mike Wright
That's right.
Andy Holloway
Can't remember the cat's name. Who made the site.
Mike Wright
Yeah. So we have three, then. So we have the Chipotle guy.
Andy Holloway
You're counting us?
Mike Wright
No, I'm not counting us. I'm counting the rapper. Oh. So that's what I was gonna announce today. We did add one more to the league. Very creative. Somebody decided they were going to rap about the show.
Andy Holloway
Mm.
Mike Wright
Are we sharing that right now?
Andy Holloway
There was much love, and I enjoyed it so much that. Yeah. Oh, we're sharing it all right. I did a little work on it to doctor it up. It was already fantastic. But we had. We had to get it radio ready.
Mike Wright
So welcome to the Listener League again. Show us your creativity. Three different people in the league so far. And that means we have eight spots left and we'll go ahead and play.
Andy Holloway
So the shout out is to David M. AKA Deaf Mutant.
Mike Wright
That's his rapper name.
Jason Moore
The old school beat stumbled on the.
D
Ball is about a month ago. Like what you gonna tell me that I don't know. Show after show, it's becoming clear all the other podcasts can't come near. Yo, I should drop that line for review with Soros. Rex.
Mike Wright
Are you into this mic?
Andy Holloway
I'm. But, oh, I was about to float.
Jason Moore
You're gonna hop on it?
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I was about to freestyle for you guys.
Mike Wright
What was his name again?
Andy Holloway
Deaf Mutant.
Mike Wright
His real name, David M. So that I appreciate the effort there. That was pretty solid.
Andy Holloway
That's what we're talking about.
Mike Wright
Giving it some thought, laying it down for us. So we appreciate it. Welcome to the league. And you can always email us. Mail the fantasy footballers.com if you want to get a hold of us. We're looking forward to that league. It should be a lot of fun. You get to take on the fantasy footballers. Yeah, not too bad. Any parting thoughts, gentlemen, before we say goodbye? Let people get back to their weekend here.
Andy Holloway
No.
Mike Wright
And Jason, are you awake still?
Jason Moore
I am. I'm already. Now that this show's over, I'm in Game of Thrones mode. I'm just waiting. Season finale. No.
Andy Holloway
That's so bittersweet.
Jason Moore
Oh, yeah.
Mike Wright
It's gone so quick.
Jason Moore
You brought this up, Andy. The fact that the, you know, they.
Mike Wright
Didn'T take the big gap. They didn't take that four week arbitrary break between episodes in the middle of the season. And so that's why it feels so quick.
Andy Holloway
Oh, it was.
Mike Wright
Remember how they did like the two or three week break?
Andy Holloway
No, they would usually just do one for Memorial Day.
Jason Moore
No.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Jason Moore
At Memorial Day they take, like, a month off.
Andy Holloway
No, I only. I only remember it being one. One week.
Jason Moore
Yeah. You're wrong. Okay.
Mike Wright
Not the first time.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
So check us out. We'll be back here on Tuesday.
Andy Holloway
Goodbye.

Fantasy Footballers Podcast 2015 - BONUS Episode: Mailbag and Listener Questions
Release Date: June 13, 2015
Hosts: Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, Mike "The Fantasy Hitman" Wright
In this bonus episode of the Fantasy Footballers Podcast, the expert trio—Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike Wright—dedicate the entire show to addressing listener questions and providing in-depth analysis on various fantasy football topics. This comprehensive mailbag session offers valuable insights for both novice and seasoned fantasy football enthusiasts, covering trade strategies, keeper league dilemmas, draft position advantages, and roster management tips.
Discussion Highlights:
The hosts kick off the episode by sharing their personal experiences with the best and worst fantasy football trades they've been involved in.
Mike Wright's Best Trade:
At [02:05], Mike recounts trading Donny Avery for D'Angelo Williams just before the trade deadline. This move paid off as Williams transformed into a top-tier fantasy running back, leading Mike's team to the title game.
Mike Wright: "…trades Donny Avery, wide receiver for the Rams, out there and bring back D'Angelo Williams before he went on his massive scoring tirade…"
Andy Holloway's Best Trade:
Andy shares his successful trade where he offered Matt Ryan and Doug Martin in exchange for Adrian Peterson, who later achieved a stellar season.
Andy Holloway: "I traded … Matt Ryan and Doug Martin … and got Adrian Peterson and then Peterson decided he was going to run for 2,000 yards…"
Andy Holloway's Worst Trade:
Reflecting on a keeper league scenario, Andy discusses trading Adrian Peterson and a first-round pick for Gio Bernard and a sixth-round pick. Despite the trade appearing unfavorable on paper, it ultimately led Andy to win the championship.
Andy Holloway: "…the trade ended up being Adrian Peterson and a first-round pick for Gio Bernard and a sixth-round pick. I won the championship and I played Gio three times."
Listeners seek advice on managing keeper leagues, particularly focusing on preventing "super teams" and combating tanking behaviors.
Limiting Trade Flexibility:
Jason suggests restricting the trading of future draft picks to minimize the formation of super teams.
Jason Moore: "I would remove the ability to trade future picks…"
Implementing a Hard Trade Deadline:
Andy recommends setting a firm trade deadline early in the season to ensure teams commit to their strategy and prevent late-season manipulations.
Andy Holloway: "Make sure you have a hard trade deadline. It has to be… slightly after the halfway point."
Balancing Keepers:
Mike discusses varying keeper formats, such as randomizing which players are kept, to maintain competitive balance.
Mike Wright: "We mixed up the keeper situation where our teams would keep four players and three of them would go into a lottery…"
Listener Alex inquires about the strategic advantages of different draft positions, particularly favoring the seventh or eighth spots in a snake draft.
Listeners present hypothetical trade scenarios and roster compositions seeking the hosts' opinions.
Trade Scenario:
Andy, Jason, and Mike analyze a trade where one team offers Jordy Nelson, Greg Olson, and Joyk Bell for Lev Bell, D'Angelo Williams, and Kobe Fleener in a dynasty PPR league.
Mike Wright: "I think I'd rather be the guy getting Jordy and Olson and Joyk. Yes, I'm going with that."
Running Back Depth:
A listener named Daniel G. is advised against retaining running backs Pierre Thomas and Ahmad Bradshaw due to their uncertain performance prospects. The hosts emphasize the importance of securing reliable running backs over speculative picks.
Jason Moore: "Personally, if that's your running back core, blow up your team. Don’t keep your roster full with the potential of those two guys because it’s not going to be good enough."
The hosts delve into specific player evaluations and roster decisions, helping listeners optimize their teams.
Keeper Decisions:
For a listener deciding between keeping Matt Ryan or Jeremy Macklin, the hosts unanimously recommend retaining Matt Ryan due to his higher value and consistent performance.
Andy Holloway: "I'm taking Matt Ryan over Macklin."
Jason Moore: "Yeah, I'd go Jamal Charles and Calvin Johnson. If it looks like it's just a guaranteed locked-up backfield with C.J. Anderson, then I would rather have C.J."
Handling Injured Players:
Nick from the audience asks whether dropping Le'Veon Bell and drafting D'Angelo Williams is a viable strategy when Bell is out for three weeks. The hosts advise against immediately handcuffing Bell with Williams, suggesting exploring other running back options to maintain depth.
Jason Moore: "The answer to the question from me is no, you don’t need to draft him."
Greg from a competitive family PPR league seeks advice on whether to draft two running backs early or mix positions, given his league's scoring system of one point per catch and half a point per carry.
The Fantasy Footballers announce the launch of their Listener League, inviting listeners to join and compete alongside the hosts. They highlight the creativity of initial participants, including unique entrants like a rapper who crafted a personalized theme song for the league.
As the episode wraps up, the hosts share light-hearted banter about the rapid progression of the season and express excitement for upcoming episodes. They encourage listeners to engage with them on social media and through their website for further support and community interaction.
Andy Holloway: "Goodbye."
Jason Moore: "Thank you for listening to another edition of the Fantasy Footballers Podcast…"
Mike Wright [02:05]: "…walked him through. And at the time of the trade it wasn't like it was going to be vetoed by anybody because Dwell hadn't done enough for the league to think, oh, this is unfair."
Andy Holloway [05:02]: "Can’t believe I made this trade. Adrian Peterson."
Jason Moore [09:25]: "I would be able to trade draft picks as soon as you have those draft picks."
Jason Moore [12:19]: "I was just going to say I'm right."
Mike Wright [23:19]: "I feel stupid."
Jason Moore [31:02]: "Stripper."
Trade Wisely: Understanding the potential long-term impact of trades is crucial. Sometimes, what appears unfavorable initially can lead to championship success.
Keeper League Balance: Implementing rules like hard trade deadlines and limiting future pick trades can maintain competitive balance and prevent the domination of super teams.
Draft Position Strategy: Mid-round draft positions (7th or 8th) offer balanced access to top-tier players, making them strategically advantageous.
Roster Management: Prioritize reliable, high-volume players over speculative picks to ensure consistent performance throughout the season.
Engage with the Community: Participating in listener leagues and engaging with the podcast community can enhance the fantasy football experience.
This bonus episode serves as an invaluable resource for fantasy football managers, offering practical advice, strategic insights, and actionable recommendations tailored to various league formats and scoring systems. Whether you're navigating keeper league complexities or fine-tuning your draft strategy, the Fantasy Footballers provide expert guidance to help you achieve victory in your league.
