Jason Moore
Good morning.
Mike Wright
It's sunny in Arizona.
Jason Moore
That is not true. Cloudy. It is a cloudy day, but my heart is not cloudy because of speculation about Adrian Peterson, albeit not that factually. It grows every day that he could be coming out here to Arizona. The fact that he seems to be wanting a trade has my heart happy.
Mike Wright
Has your heart Is sunny.
Jason Moore
My heart is sunny. Though the clouds are out this morning. Welcome to the fantasy Footballers podcast. My name is Andy Holloway joined as always with Jason Moore.
Andy Holloway
Hello. Still under the weather.
Jason Moore
Still under the weather.
Andy Holloway
Still here.
Jason Moore
And Mike the fantasy Hitman Wright.
Mike Wright
Hello, everybody.
Jason Moore
Fantasy writer.
Mike Wright
I'm above the weather.
Jason Moore
Yes. It is not getting you down. Why are we recording fantasy football podcasts in the middle of March?
Andy Holloway
Gentlemen, this is the best thing on the planet and everybody listening knows it.
Mike Wright
The people demand it.
Andy Holloway
That's true. They've been asking more shows. We give them more shows.
Jason Moore
We do. We love fantasy football. It is a passion. We have a combined 40 plus years of fantasy sport experience among us and we do this because we love the game, don't we?
Mike Wright
Just a little bit. We're recording a podcast in the middle of March.
Jason Moore
Not only a podcast in the middle of March, but a podcast in which we will be bringing you some early quarterback rankings.
Mike Wright
Oh, you should have hit the button right there. We do. We need a rankings button first of all. But you could have gone.
Jason Moore
Well, that makes it harder to hit.
Mike Wright
Breaking news would have. Would have sufficed.
Jason Moore
You really just want us to use our drops? Dude, I'm gonna save it. You need to build anticipation for when Trent Richardson signs, signs an Extension or Colt McCoy. Yeah, that's right. You can follow us on Twitter heffballers. You can Visit our website, www.thefantasyfootballers.com. essentially, we are everywhere that you are. We are on Facebook, we are on Stitcher and Android and we are also on itunes. So if you could do us a favor. You like the show? Go on to itunes, subscribe to the show and leave us a five star review. Jason, in your best Barry White impression, now that you're under the weather, will you go ahead and read us our most recent review?
Andy Holloway
Yes, here it is. This review comes in from Gucci7684. This is great. I hope I stay sick forever. I was starting to get burned out on some of the other big name fantasy podcasts, specifically the analysts on the podcast. I began to notice how cocky other analysts said become and I started to decrease my listening time, which is so sad. Then I found the Fantasy Footballers podcast and hands down, it is the best one out there. The hosts are knowledgeable and funny, but they come off as grounded and humble and no one on the show is a D bag. We are a clean show here. We'll just use the letter in comparison to other analysts on big name podcasts. Well, Gucci, you win the podcast of the week.
Jason Moore
The podcast of the week. Someone's on cold medicine this morning. That's the best compliment I've ever been paid, by the way. Is not a D bag.
Mike Wright
Is there an irony of someone calling us grounded and humble and yet we read the review explaining how great we are?
Andy Holloway
There is some rich.
Jason Moore
Well, I think we want to be very faithful to the fact we said if you leave us a review, we might read it on the air.
Mike Wright
We will.
Jason Moore
And so thank you, Gucci for your compliment of us not being D bags.
Mike Wright
Well, it's not just Gucci, it's Gucci.
Jason Moore
7676 84. That's true. And thank you. There's a lot of Gucci's on listening. Thank you for listening to the Fantasy Footballers podcast. Our opinions are so strong.
Mike Wright
Oh, what are they?
Jason Moore
What are they? Today there are some HGH concerns.
Andy Holloway
Oh, man. Blood tests coming there.
Jason Moore
We have been selected for a random test.
Mike Wright
Sylvester Stallone called us.
Jason Moore
We might not be here next week depending on. Let's get into it. Maybe.
Andy Holloway
News and notes from around the league.
Jason Moore
That was a right click instead of a left click is what happened right there.
Mike Wright
You dropped the drop.
Jason Moore
I dropped the drop. Breaking news this morning.
Mike Wright
What?
Andy Holloway
Whoa. Breaking news.
Jason Moore
Charles Clay has officially signed his deal with the Buffalo Bills.
Mike Wright
He got paid?
Jason Moore
The arms race. Yes, he got paid. What was that contract, Mike?
Mike Wright
I don't have it off the top of my head.
Jason Moore
I think it was 5 for 38 with 20 million guaranteed.
Mike Wright
It was outrageous. I love me some Charles Clay, but I don't know, just for a. For what he has accomplished, that's. That seemed like a crazy big contract.
Jason Moore
We also have word that Percy Harvin's deal to the Bills is official and is being reported as a three year deal now.
Mike Wright
I thought it was one.
Jason Moore
They have an out.
Mike Wright
They have the team or the player has the out.
Jason Moore
The team has an out after year one. It's a six million dollar guarantee in year one. We also have word that Jacob Tammy is a new member of the Atlanta Falcons.
Andy Holloway
I'm so sad by that because of.
Jason Moore
The upside of that position.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I was really looking Forward to. I was targeting already the future tight end of the Atlanta Falcons. And you're now targeting Jacob Tammy? No, I mean, you know, he can be as serviceable as other. Well, I mean, you know, he's no, he's no Jermaine Gresh toy.
Jason Moore
Lolo.
Andy Holloway
Well, that was the man that I.
Mike Wright
Wanted to go president over here.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Which brings us to the next breaking news. Jermaine Gresham has had surgery and will delay in signing.
Jason Moore
How are you going to fill your tight end position now?
Andy Holloway
I'm going to probably just put him in if he's not playing. He's my man.
Jason Moore
Crabtree. You remember him? Michael Crabtree. He's the wide receiver for the now depleted. Well, formerly the wide receiver. The now depleted San Francisco 49ers. Wes Welker as well. Both of those guys have generated very little buzz on the free agent market and are unsigned as of now.
Andy Holloway
Well, yeah. This is news and notes from around the league. There's no news on those two players.
Jason Moore
Well, not a lot of news since our last show on Tuesday. I had a question for you before we move on to the, the meat and potatoes of this episode, which is our initial the fantasy footballers consensus rankings, our individual rankings for the quarterback position. But let me ask you guys who, and maybe we already answered this question, who's the most overpaid? Who do you believe is most overpaid in the free agency period? So far?
Andy Holloway
There are some good options. I'm going to say that the most overpaid right now is Trent Richardson, because Trent Richardson should be getting no money per year to not play.
Jason Moore
No money per year?
Andy Holloway
Yeah. He should be guaranteed nothing. And, but like, that's the full guarantee. I guarantee you. You get no money. Yeah. I mean, honestly, the next, the next most overpaid player is going to be whoever goes to the Oakland Raiders.
Jason Moore
They just mentioned that they have so.
Andy Holloway
Much cap room that they have to spend. They have to. I remember this as a Cardinals fan a long time ago, when you'd have to give these big bloated contracts to get up to your cap minimum because nobody wants to come play for you.
Mike Wright
I would go with, I still think sue in Miami. There's just. I can't pay that much money to a player who is not a franchise quarterback. And I mean, I'm not saying sue is bad. Sue is a fantastic defensive changing player, but that is, that is a lot of scratch to commit to a guy who has some, some on field issues of stomping people and doing other things that take him off the field, it.
Jason Moore
Is somewhat incredible that there was absolutely, undoubtedly no consequence for him financially for many of those decisions on the field.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Jason Moore
Hey, kids, he completely got paid.
Mike Wright
As long as you're really, really good, you can step on people.
Jason Moore
I happen to think he's worth the money. However, my most overpaid has got to be the Charles Clay deal based on a resume yet to be fulfilled. To me.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
But the one thing that you have to look at for a contract, what you're supposed to be doing in football with a contract is paying for future performance. You're not. You're not just paying for what you already did, because that doesn't completely make sense. But I agree with you that it. It. It's really high for. For what he already has accomplished. I do think he is a great tight end and he.
Andy Holloway
If.
Mike Wright
If they use him correctly, will ascend and he'll be a. He'll be a good tight end. 1.
Jason Moore
And I should say part of the reason they did this deal was to handcuff and make it impossible for their division rivals to keep him.
Mike Wright
Right.
Jason Moore
It's. There's a bit of an arms race going on in the AFC East. Percy Harvin, Brandon Marshall arriving in New York and a lot of other moves. Ryan Fitzpatrick coming in. Harvin, obviously, the trade for McCoy, it just didn't.
Mike Wright
It didn't make a ton of sense for that since they had already locked up Jordan Cameron and in Miami, it.
Jason Moore
Didn'T make sense for them to keep.
Mike Wright
Clay or say no, to give him that much money to do it, to do a keep away from Miami.
Jason Moore
Right. I see what you're saying.
Andy Holloway
Where.
Mike Wright
Because they had Jordan and I probably would rather. If you take concussions out, which you can't, but I'd rather have Jordan Cameron on my team. But Charles Clay is going to be on the field where Jordan Cameron is likely to miss time, unfortunately.
Jason Moore
All right, that's all the news and notes that we have from the last couple of days. We're going to go ahead and get into our quarterback rankings now. We all set up a first 15 to 20 quarterbacks went through and projected each guy. And then what I did is I went ahead and put all of our rankings together and gave us a consensus ranking. So this will be the order we go through them and we can give our thoughts. Talk about a little bit where we have them projected, where we disagree and agree. I've already come out and said I think the hitman Mike Wright is a little bit crazy on a couple of these, but hey, crazy like a fox. There's a reason our opinions are so bold.
Andy Holloway
So bold that what, Andy?
Jason Moore
So bold that I have no idea.
Andy Holloway
Our opinions are so bold, they grow facial hair.
Jason Moore
There you go.
Andy Holloway
All right.
Jason Moore
Also, I think it's.
Andy Holloway
I think it's worth letting people know how we put together our rankings here at the Fantasy Footballers. I think it's very common that.
Jason Moore
To do random number generators.
Andy Holloway
Yes, random number generators, exactly. So the opinion that gets me to.
Jason Moore
My number one, Andy Dalton.
Andy Holloway
But, you know, we're not just taking these guys and sorting them around and saying, I like this guy more than that guy. And doing that, we go through and put out the stats for each player. All the way through, how many passes, what's their completions, what's their yards, what's their interceptions, fumbles, all that. And we do that kind of almost like blind. And then we take a look afterwards without bias and say, where do our guys end up based on what we actually believe they're going to be doing on the field? And we almost have some surprises ourself. I was surprised to see some guys who were low and some guys that were high on my list.
Jason Moore
And for me, I just put all my keepers at the top of my list. So. No, Jason's right. We. We do try to do this in an unbiased fashion. All of the numbers you see today are standard scoring. We will release all of our rankings onto the website with standard scoring with PPR and half PPR scoring.
Andy Holloway
Six point touchdown.
Jason Moore
Yes. You can see because every. Every league's different. We're going standard scoring.
Mike Wright
So, I mean, so these are 4.
Jason Moore
Point per passing, 4 point per passing touchdown, 6 point per rushing touchdown, minus.
Andy Holloway
2 for each fumble and each interception.
Jason Moore
And so the first guy on our consensus rankings is a quarterback out of the College of California.
Mike Wright
He is the second most popular thing in Wisconsin. I just heard this today.
Jason Moore
He is behind what's.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, what's the first. Cheese.
Mike Wright
This is not a joke. There was a poll taken and cheese came out more with more favorable results than Aaron Rodgers. What's that?
Andy Holloway
Cheese, man, I love cheese.
Jason Moore
So does Eddie Lacey.
Andy Holloway
Fat Lacy. Joke.
Jason Moore
I can say it because he's one of my guys.
Mike Wright
So I love Eddie Lacy.
Jason Moore
So Aaron Rodgers, far and away, everybody's number one here, which it might be easy to say, that was the expectation, but I don't think he is on everybody's list. However, he is on all of our lists. What do we like about Aaron Rodgers?
Mike Wright
He. All he does is throw touchdowns.
Andy Holloway
All he does is win.
Mike Wright
I Mean, the guys, he hucks it all over the yard. He's got big play receivers. Randall Cobb is back. Devonte Adams is growing. Jordy Nelson is Jordan Nelson. He's a super stud and they, yeah, Lacey takes pressure on. They're just. The offense is amazing. He, he constantly throws 40 plus touchdowns.
Jason Moore
He does run the ball a little bit too.
Mike Wright
Yeah, he's just, he's. Aaron Rodgers is the best quarterback in the NFL.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. And the thing that I love about him this year, he did. He finished number one last year or two, I believe.
Mike Wright
Two.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, two behind Luck. The change from last year to this year. Oh, he finished number one.
Jason Moore
He did finish number.
Andy Holloway
Breaking news. But the thing is, is his continuity is incredible. I mean they brought back literally every single person. They didn't have Randall Cobb for half of the previous year. Now they played a whole season together, which was awesome. Finished number one. They re signed their line. Their O line is intact. Like you said, devonte Adams is going to be getting better. I just.
Jason Moore
There's nothing better than continuity when you project a player, which is why these guys are where they're at.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Barring injury, we know for sure that he's going to be what, top three? I mean, what's the lowest he could.
Jason Moore
Finish if he, if he's healthy?
Andy Holloway
If Aaron Rodgers plays 16 games and is a bum and I mean like we draft him and he stinks and everyone is disappointed the whole year long. He finishes top five, he, he finishes fifth and you're going.
Jason Moore
We're coming in here saying he's a disappointment as the number. As the number four.
Andy Holloway
Exactly.
Jason Moore
Which is great.
Mike Wright
Three. Three is about the lowest I can see Aaron Rodgers going with full 16 games.
Jason Moore
One of the things that separates Aaron Rodgers from the rest is his propensity to avoid the interception as well. He is a just incredible touchdown interception ratio. I haven't projected for only seven interceptions this year. I believe he had six, five last year. That's just when you look at him compared to a guy like Elaine Manning, Jay Cutler, you, even Andrew Luck, the interception numbers are hugely different. And so he is our far and away number one. I don't think we're giving you too much breaking news on Aaron Rodgers, but he is our initial number one and will probably stay there barring some type.
Mike Wright
Of preseason injury like a meteor smashing into Green Bay.
Jason Moore
Yes, meteor. Last year he was actually the number three adp. So he was the number three quarterback by average.
Mike Wright
Manning. Manning was coming off of historic season and then people were chasing those points.
Jason Moore
It was Manning one BREEZE two Last year, the second guy on our list was the number five ADP last year, which was a little higher than I guess I expected it to be. But people knew the talent. Our number two and we all have him, Number two is Andrew Luck from the Indianapolis Colts. Mike, break down Andrew Luck for us.
Mike Wright
Well, Andrew Luck continues to grow as a quarterback. The offensive scheme decided to throw everything out the window last year and said, Andrew Luck, the show is yours. We're going to throw. You want to throw on the one yard line. Good. You're going to throw. And his interceptions showed that because he. What did he come up with last year? I was going to say 14, but that's my projection. He had 16 last year. He runs the ball. He had 273 yards. He had three touchdowns on the ground. He has a tremendous cast around him. Ty Hilton has overcome my skepticism and I'm buying into Ty Hilton now. He gets Andre Johnson, who was a Hall of Fame wide receiver with enough left in the tank to really produce. Dante Moncrief is there. Who? The sleeper community was very saddened by the Andre Johnson signing, but Moncrief is there. He will grow.
Jason Moore
Frank Gore has two tight ends as well.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
And I've even gotten to Dwayne Allen and Fleener and Dwayne Allen, I believe, is he probably. He is a top five tight end to me. Just spitballing, but I believe he'll be a top five for me. He, he just, he's a, he's very good. He's a very smart and very athletic quarterback.
Jason Moore
He's another guy, I think that has a pretty high floor in terms of we're looking at him probably inside the top five regardless of what happens. He's. They're very dependent on him and their defense isn't premier.
Mike Wright
Right. Well, as long as they keep throwing.
Jason Moore
And they throw in the red zone like you said with Dwayne Allen and some of these other tools like Frank Gore or someone out of the backfield. Do you have anything else about Andrew Luck you want to add, Jason? I think, I think Mike took care of most of it. I would say the rushing yards are nice and his youth is nice. From a fantasy football perspective, he's still ascending.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, there's no reason, zero reason to think that he is capped or that he would go backwards considering he got more weapons in the offseason, is getting more into his prime. So I like him. The real question for me, looking through our three rankings now as we complete the top two is for Mike And I, this is absolutely the end of the first tier. Statistically. Now you've got the third consensus player actually pretty close in points to Andrew Luck. But for Mike and I, when we went through and looked at our points, the tier drop off here is so large that it's about the same. If you take the next player, the third, through almost the rest of the top 12, you've got about the same gap in points as you've got from these top two guys in Andrew Luck and Aaron Rodgers to everybody else. And so, you know, I know that we are a big proponent here. And even when we were putting these projections together off the air, you know, you, Andy had said one of the things you learned while doing this is you're not drafting a quarterback early. But I started looking at these numbers and I'm gonna make a case today.
Mike Wright
No.
Andy Holloway
That drafting Aaron Luck. Aaron Luck.
Jason Moore
If you draft Aaron Luck, I'm on board.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I have.
Mike Wright
I used the ooze from the Ninja Turtles and I have created the Bay Colts. Yes.
Andy Holloway
Steaming hot fantasy tip. Steaming hot fantasy tip. Here it is. Listeners, I do not think that it is a bad idea to go after, if you're in the early rounds, Aaron Rodgers or Andrew Luck. Because if you look at the. If you look at how often those first rounds running backs and wide receivers are going to blow up in your face and going to leave you with nothing. And you look at how not often Aaron Rodgers or Andrew Luck or really any elite quarterback are going to end up with just a wasted pick. And you look at the point spread between those two guys and the rest, just like you would say in the tight end position with taking Gronk because he's such an advantage at the position. I think you're foolish. I think I would be foolish to tell someone that you are foolish to draft him.
Jason Moore
I am.
Mike Wright
I'm vomiting over here.
Jason Moore
If I was going to jump into any part of your argument, which I'd have to be pushed to do, so for me, my teardrop was Aaron Rodgers and the rest you guys said you had your two. For me, that point gap happens from Aaron Rodgers to Andrew Luck. So if you wanted to argue, if I wanted to try to argue with you, which I won't, it would be the Aaron Rodgers or no one else argument. Especially because Luck hasn't been premier for a multiple. For multiple seasons.
Andy Holloway
So that gap is there for me as well. I've got him 20 points higher than luck, but luck is still 20 points higher than the next Mike. I know that you abhor Taking quarterbacks early. So I really want to hear your take. I want to hear because you have a history as well of winning fantasy football championships and that's what people want to do. So tell the listeners why Jason Moore is such an idiot.
Jason Moore
Well, the thing, I mean you don't.
Andy Holloway
Got to be mean about it, but.
Mike Wright
You know, which this is all just super deep strategy. But the thing is, the thing you can do with a quarterback, you can, you can stream the position where and what I mean by that is week to week I, I will play a matchup and I will get high level production out of, out of a player. Like last year, you nobody wanted any to any piece of Ryan Tannehill. But if you, if you were paying attention to his numbers and when he would play a poor defense, he was putting up, he's putting up High level quarterback 1 numbers in those games. And so you can frankenstein together a quarterback position where as long as you are using your head and looking at matchups and planning ahead, you can piece together a top six quarterback and not just plug them. What Aaron Rodgers gives you the safety of you just I plug it and I forget it. What you cannot piece together is a high level running back. One you cannot, you're not gonna be able to stream that matchup, stream the matchups with the running back because other people, too many other people are trying to do it.
Andy Holloway
And I gotta tell you, you have already convinced me because I mean I'm, I'm not off my position of the value of being able to take those two guys. But you do bring up a really valuable point, is that it is very different. I think the best analogy here would be to the tight end point gap, right? So the tight ends, you've got Gronk and everyone else and you stream that position but you're not streaming guys. I mean you're guessing and when you stream those guys, you're getting lucky on a touchdown or something like that. When you stream quarterbacks, you can look at those obvious defenses and you generally do get their top end production. So like for instance two years ago, Andy Dalton, Andrew Holloway's number one guy, he finished the year, he, he finished the year the third best in fantasy, which is ludicrous because half of the time he put up zeros. I mean the guy was a bum. You couldn't win a championship if that was your guy week in, week out. However, if you're streaming quarterbacks, you're getting Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck type production from week to week. When you play those smart. And here's the thing. You're listening to this podcast through the season, you're going to know who it's going to be because you know, not to be what our reviewer said we weren't. But we're, you know, we know what we're talking about.
Mike Wright
We will be talking about streams of the week and things like that.
Jason Moore
Here's another thing. Players reach for quarterbacks early in the draft a lot of the times. So when we're talking about even the value of an Aaron Rodgers, a lot of times he's going ahead of where we would even place him even if we were taking a leap on him. More than that. One of the worst things you can do as a fantasy player is to draft a guy that you have projected as a 3, 4 or 5 at the quarterback position and stick with him because you can bury yourself in bad matchups. I've seen guys draft. Let's. A perfect example, perfect example would be a Cam Newton, who is a top five, six projected generally ADP wise. I don't, I don't. I think I wrote down what he was last year. He was the ninth off the board last year, probably because he was coming.
Mike Wright
Off surgery and things like that.
Jason Moore
Well, and his wide receiver core. But Cam Newton's a good example of a guy who, if you, if you spend a high pick on a quarterback, you're stuck playing him and you have less flexibility to move. Where we say this gap between a Cam Newton and on our list, maybe a Brady or an Eli Manning or a Romo isn't that big. But you spend a third rounder on Cam Newton, you're playing him in the bad matchups because. Because you're not going to go sign another guy and stream him ahead of your draft pick.
Andy Holloway
I think you could even. Mental. Yeah, I was going to say mentally. I think you could even take it on the same player. Like it's a mental problem. If you took Tony Romo in the seventh because you thought it was a good deal, you're, you know, versus you just wait. And it just so happens where Tony Romo ends up dropping to the, you know, to the 10th, to the 11th and then you grab them there. It's the same guy, but you'd be much more fine dropping them and that's got to be.
Jason Moore
Or even just bench.
Andy Holloway
Right, Exactly.
Jason Moore
No, your point is. Is right. And that's the only benefit of an Aaron Rodgers is it's a set and forget. It's very nice to do that if you have the guy, but if you waste the pick or the value. You know, it might be nice to play Aaron Rodgers every week, but it's not nice having to sign Kerwin Williams off of free agency. Plant your running back two position. So.
Andy Holloway
So let's get to the number three guy.
Jason Moore
Yeah, that's great analysis from you too. I appreciate the very clear take by Mike because he's, he's taken this approach. This isn't just an invention of the show right now. Mike's taken that approach to fantasy football over the last few years and I.
Mike Wright
Will say I was of the, I was in on the A this years ago but I was that quarterback guy who like the quarterback scores the most points. You have to have a great quarterback. It's just the difference of quarterback scoring like we talked about on Tuesday I believe was the difference between the number 12 and the number five guy is nothing compared to the running back 12 and the running back five. And you only play one quarterback. So let's say that this strategy is a little bit different. When you're talking about two quarterback leagues. You're going to want to grab a Rodgers or something like early because, because you have to play two but you only have to play one.
Jason Moore
It's also slightly different in leagues that award six points per touchdown for quarterback position. You adjust your but not, not philosophic, not philosophically. And to your point about streaming in general, the best guys to stream are the guys that have the most opportunity to perform on a week to week basis. If you're streaming a position where a guy touches the ball like tight end very infrequently streaming them accurately is difficult. At the quarterback position you can project Orion Fitzpatrick is going to throw the ball 35, 40 times in this game against this team. Your, your floor on streaming is much.
Mike Wright
Higher and if you've built a strong foundation, all you need from Your quarterback is 200 to 250 yards with two touchdowns. Like that's what you need for a winning week. If, if you build your team with the, the foundation of a strong running back one and a strong wide receiver.
Jason Moore
One and I've been less. I haven't put that into practice. That philosophy. Every single year there have been opportunities in our leagues to trade for guys at different value points and so I've had a guy like Breeze was my starter last year for most of the year and I liked that, I liked the consistency of that. But I think it's a very, I think it's good we're talking philosophically about the position because we're sitting Here, it's March 19th. Our rankings are going to be adjusted. They're going to change, guys are going to get signed.
Mike Wright
I'm locked in, man.
Jason Moore
You're locked. I hope when we put the rankings up, everybody has got their update date and you're sitting there March 19, 2015. Guys aren't even on the same team anymore. Got Brian Hoyer as your starter.
Andy Holloway
So our consensus number three here is somebody that consensus number three.
Jason Moore
Jason and I have him number three on our list. Mike has him number four.
Andy Holloway
Well, there's a lot of analysts that I, that I respect, that I really like that have this guy much lower. And even for me, in my own, in my own brain head, I'm not excited about the pick, but I just put the numbers together. I don't see how it doesn't turn out well for him. Which is.
Jason Moore
Russell Wilson. Russell Wilson, second baseman for the Texas Rangers. What I said, oh, yeah, he's got drafted by the Rangers. You guys don't know anything about baseball.
Andy Holloway
Truth.
Jason Moore
And that's one of the reasons why this show's good. Russell Wilson, I have him projected for a bump up in passing yardage. They're going to pay him this offseason and they got him a weapon that can be categorized as something in the top, you know, 50.
Andy Holloway
That's really nice. It'll be the first one.
Jason Moore
I've got a top 50 tool like, like Jimmy Graham. So I haven't projected at the 3,800 yard mark for passing yards, which would be a career high, and 28 touchdowns and only six interceptions. But where does he make his money on the ground?
Andy Holloway
Mm.
Jason Moore
He had, I believe, how many yards last year somewhere. I think he was in the 700s.
Mike Wright
850.
Jason Moore
850. So I have him at 720 this year. Marshawn lynch is back, but they're changing the identity of that offense over time.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, almost. To give a good example of what we're talking about, almost every single statistic that you read out, I have him considerably lower on 36. 50 yards, only 26 touchdowns, 650 on the ground, and he's still far and away my number three. So there's that breathing room there where those yards on the ground and touchdowns on the ground just are so valuable. And again, this is very exclusive to standard scoring. You know, the six points for running touchdowns versus. Versus four for in the air. But you know, they bringing in that weapon of Jimmy Graham and seeing how they ran the Super Bowl, I think that you've got to expect them to open it up a little bit. More this year and that he's certainly going to get more touchdowns through the air.
Mike Wright
Now I had, I was similar with Jason where Russell Wilson was not necessarily high on my list but just after I put in the stats and I think I was conservative with him where I, I gave him a slight boost in the passing yardage but I dropped his rushing yards considerably because I don't see him hitting that 850 mark and he still came up as my, as my number four guy now. So just a quick note for. Let's say that they're. If we have listeners who are newer to fantasy football, why is a running quarterback gain so much value? Is because in standard scoring, 10 yards on the ground is a point, 25 in the air is a point. So you could throw for 100 yards and get four points or you could run for 40 and get four points and he frequently does that. So that's where the point difference is made up so greatly. Where the throwing for such a high amount of yardage and you just have, you have one scramble and that equals 100 yards in the air.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. It's not uncommon for him to have, have a game where he busts off 100 yards on a team and that's.
Jason Moore
And he only throws for one touchdown.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. And that's 10 points on yards. What, what would he have to throw to get 10 points in the air?
Mike Wright
I think it's what, 250 to get. Yeah, yeah.
Jason Moore
And that's why a guy like Tebow, Tim Tebow, quarterback, future quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles, can be a non prolific passer, but a top five fantasy quarterback the way he was a few years ago because you can make up so much on the ground and generally guys like Cam Newton, running quarterbacks, even Colin Kaepernick, they don't put up as many duds overall because your baselines, I mean there were games last year where Cam Newton had a touchdown or no touchdowns through the air, but still he's a 15, 16 point finish. So Russell Wilson is our consensus number three. Our consensus number four is, is Mike's number three. Is Mike's number three.
Mike Wright
I was actually surprised you guys were as as high on him as me.
Andy Holloway
Oh, I love, I mean, yeah, this.
Jason Moore
Would be a show. Yeah, this is a guy that we are a little bit higher than others on. He finished number seven last year. He was the number eight off the board in the draft last year. We have him at number four. Matty Ice.
Andy Holloway
Matty Ice.
Mike Wright
Oh no, I renamed him.
Andy Holloway
Oh, oh. Breaking news, breaking news.
Mike Wright
Manila Ice.
Andy Holloway
So Matt Ryan. Honestly, I feel like Matt Ryan could be sponsored by the fantasy footballers because we are all three of us are so in on Julio Jones this year and you know, just by nature of that Matty Ice has to you know, improve on the numbers from last year, especially in the touchdown production. I'm really excited for Matt Ryan. He excites me for bigger blow up potential. Whereas Russell Wilson I feel like is just really solid.
Jason Moore
Two words, Jacob. Tammy.
Andy Holloway
Oh, I was really excited. You let me down.
Jason Moore
There is some, some unsettled. I mean they lost Harry Douglas. The health of Julio Jones. If you look at Matt Ryan's games from when he was healthy and when he wasn't healthy, it's an incredible difference. You have a different head coach there now you have a different offensive coordinator there. So there's some unknown but there's a lot of comparisons between Matt Ryan and Matt Stafford to me on their dependency on that top level wide receiver that makes them excel.
Mike Wright
The where the offensive coordinator. We're talking about Kyle Shanahan. In Kyle Shanahan you're talking about a guy who was there and got Andy Dalton to a top five, top five finish. He got Matt Schaub to a top five finish. He also got Robert Griffin to a top five finish. The guy knows offense and he's getting a fantastic quarterback in Matt Ryan. Now granted everything is tied to the health of Julio Jones but last year Matt Ryan had literal bullfighters playing at his offensive line. The entire line got hurt. He had no, I think he had one starter by the end of the year and that's.
Jason Moore
You were talking about that all year. That was his downfall and see it on the field.
Mike Wright
And that's the only reason I didn't like him last year is because he was, he had no time to throw. He was getting crushed. And so I'm expecting a healthier line this year, a stronger line this year and a new coat, new head coach who's defensive minded. The I'm expecting a big increase just overall as a team from the Falcons and really expecting Matt Ryan to perform this year.
Jason Moore
Here's one thing, a couple things I learned about Matt Ryan. One and I mentioned this last year on the show he is not a good garbage time quarterback. He is an interception throwing garbage time quarterback and I had him for parts of the year last year when they get because there are certain guys breeze for example even Matt Stafford who when the team gets behind bad defensive play you're going to get prolific numbers on offense. But Ryan was the guy who consistently he'd come out and he'd try to sling it to get back in the game and he'd throw interceptions. And so I agree with you. I think a defensive minded head coach and a change in the way that team performs gives him more opportunities in the red zone to make to complete passes. And not having Stephen Jackson as the pass catching back premier, you know, with Devontae Freeman and some other guys they bring in, I think his, I think he's gonna have a good year. We all do. We all have him very high.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Kyle Shanahan is my main reason. I mean, you know, there's a new, new coaching staff so you know, that can go both good and bad. But we know what we have in Kyle Shanahan and that's a great offensive coordinator in my opinion. So I'm really excited to see what he does. He's got the weapons there and should be able to put up a lot of numbers.
Mike Wright
I'm just so, and just, just to remind people, Pierre Garcon, who was the ex in Kyle Shanahan's offense when he was in Washington. Let's see, in 2013, if I counter right, was whatever. He was a top 15 guy. He was either 12 or 13 because NFL.com refuses to number their, their rankings.
Jason Moore
I noticed that.
Mike Wright
That was ridiculous.
Jason Moore
Terrible. But that's why I had to write numbers down the sideline of this.
Mike Wright
But Garcon was a PPR beast. He had over 1300 yards and Pierre Garcon a hot fantasy tip. Pierre Garcon is not Julio Jones.
Jason Moore
No, he's not.
Mike Wright
Julio Jones is going to dominate.
Jason Moore
Well, and you, you didn't mention Josh Gordon. Kyle Shanahan was the offensive coordinator for Josh Gordon.
Mike Wright
No, no, he was only in Cleveland for one year. Yeah, and that was last year. Okay, but, but what Kyle, what Shanahan did do was he kept that offense afloat with Brian Hoyer. I mean, that, that team was in the playoff hunt until, until general manager started texting things down to the sideline and destroying the team and putting in Johnny Football.
Andy Holloway
And we've, we've said this before on this show, but if you want to see how smart Kyle Shanahan is, he put together a 32 slide presentation to pitch the head coach of letting him go from the Cleveland Browns and it succeeded. He's clearly a genius.
Jason Moore
Let's move on to the fifth guy on our list here and get Jason's take on Peyton Manning. He is our consensus number five. I have him at five, Jason has him at six. Mike has him at Seven.
Andy Holloway
So clearly he's not necessarily an agreed upon top five, but this is a big drop.
Jason Moore
He was the number one ADP last year.
Andy Holloway
Yep.
Jason Moore
He finished the season, despite the bad ending, as the number four. I think his. I think he could surprise us and be back in that tier again, but we have him at number five. So, Jason, give us your take before you have to step out.
Andy Holloway
I've always been a Peyton fan. I refuse to believe he's going to die because he broke his neck and still came back and was awesome. I think that the trail off at the end of last year was really due to those quads. And as I started going through and looking at the numbers and getting things ready, my heart became a little sad because I do think this is going to be the end of the prolific Peyton Manning. I, you know, we've got him here at top five. I have him as my six, so he's all right, but I just don't, I don't see the year where he's going to put up monster numbers. I think this is going to be what you started to see from Tom Brady, where he's just kind of middle of the pack and he's got a great name, which is really scary from an average draft position.
Jason Moore
That's exactly what I was going to say. Is he going to be overdrafted, Mike?
Mike Wright
I would imagine he will be.
Jason Moore
The.
Mike Wright
I don't know that the last year's finish will really. Will scare everybody off, but the, the transition of the team to the running team, that's, that's where I am a little concerned in that they, they saw, they saw what would happen if they put everything in the stock of, of Peyton Manning. They got to the Super Bowl. It did not end well. The, the team needs a running game. They need to be a tougher team. And because of that, and I'm not.
Jason Moore
Gary Kubiak's there now, right?
Mike Wright
And, and Gary Kubiak likes to throw. And, and Gary Kubiak's homeboy, Owen Daniels is there. It's. I just, I just don't see Manning finishing in that top tier now of any of the guys who I have, you know, in the middle of my board. I'm not going to be surprised if he does, but I'm not going to draft him like he's going to finish there.
Jason Moore
So, in summary, we have Aaron Rodgers at number one, Andrew Luck as our number two, Russell Wilson at number three, Matt Ryan ahead of Peyton Manning at number four on all of our boards. I think that's the Most bold piece of the puzzle today. And then Peyton Manning in Denver at number five. And so that's. That's our initial rankings here. We're going to go through 6 through 10 at least. Probably 6 through 15. On the next episode of Fantasy Footballers. But we're going to move on to the mailbag now and take a question before we close out the show.
Mike Wright
Mailbag.
Jason Moore
The fantasy hitman at it again.
Mike Wright
Give us some mail.
Jason Moore
You keep doing that and you're gonna get. Someone's gonna take you away from our show.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I'm gonna.
Jason Moore
You're gonna get hired. I mean, you're gonna be on tour by.
Mike Wright
I got some calls from striper.
Andy Holloway
Now, before I leave, does anybody know who striper is?
Jason Moore
Yeah, I know striper.
Andy Holloway
I do not.
Jason Moore
I was born in the 80s.
Andy Holloway
I am. I am out of here. But I just want to say as I had to leave last time early for Michael Bay. Michael Bay. If you're out there from last week, I didn't get to weigh in. Go Mike Evans. Okay. Don't listen to these fools. Actually, Mike did. Yeah, Mike did say Mike Evans, but it's Mike Evans. That's. That's just the answer. All right.
Jason Moore
Yeah. Well, we have a bet.
Andy Holloway
Oh, I gotta go.
Jason Moore
All right, I'll just. I'll share it. We have. We did bet Watkins versus Evans. So just straight up.
Mike Wright
That's a water bet.
Jason Moore
Yeah, straight up water bet. So we'll see what happens. I could be wrong, but I like Sammy Watkins a little bit more and I liked him more. Trading in 11 versus an 8. But you have to listen to last show to understand we're talking about. So today's question comes from Sean from Fresno, California. He wants to. All of our questions have been keeper questions. Obviously, right now help me pick a wide receiver keeper from these three options. Martavis Bryant for a 12. Devonte Adams for a 12. So I'm guessing those two guys were undrafted, so they probably have to give up the final pick of the draft. And then Andre Johnson for a six. What you say, Mike? What you say? Hitman?
Mike Wright
The. It's got to be Markedavis Bryant. I loved him last year.
Andy Holloway
He was.
Mike Wright
It took him a little bit to really get on the field where he had to keep splitting some reps. I think this year he takes another leap in playing time and opportunity that I love. The Steelers offense, they are so balanced coming off the first two games, of course, where Le'Veon Bell will be suspended and it's going to be D'Angelo Williams as the running Back. However, for the the rest of the games you get Antonio Brown is a stud. He can do it all. He's underneath. And Brown and Martavis are the perfect complement to each other where each of them will keep coverage off of the other. You can't. You don't have enough guys to double cover it both of them.
Jason Moore
And so Bryant's your. Your choice here.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Bryant in the 12th is, is fantastic.
Jason Moore
Value and that's my answer as well. I love Martavis Bryant this year. You know I'm in on Andre Johnson.
Mike Wright
Yeah, we are.
Jason Moore
I think we all are. Top 12 wide receiver.
Mike Wright
Oh my.
Jason Moore
Yes.
Mike Wright
I don't know.
Jason Moore
I said 1112 range. I'm sticking to it. However, the difference in draft pick, you're basically not giving up a draft pick. You're keeping Martavius Bryant versus giving up a six for Andre Johnson. I'm all about picking up Brian. I think I'm with you. I think you'll see a second year leap with him. Ben likes him. He's a red zone beast. He also is a big play guy down the field so if he can just get more playing time, you're going to see the big plays with some stability in ppr. So I'm about Martavis Bryant here. Devonte Adams is a talent for sure, but if Cobb had left that would have changed the. Change the equation. So Sean, I'd go with Martavis Bryant and then laugh at the rest of your league as you go away.
Mike Wright
With Brian in the 12th, you're getting a wide receiver too.
Jason Moore

Now I would like to another plea to the the fantasy footballers community. If you know or you know somebody who knows the squatter of the Fantasy Hitman handle on Twitter, let him know that he is hurting my heart and he is hurting my soul.
Jason Moore
You ready? You will not let this go.
Mike Wright
No, I. I will. I. I claimed the name Fantasy Hitman and I. And I want my handle.
Jason Moore
You want your handle? How much are you willing to pay for that?
Mike Wright
I will give him.
Jason Moore
Why don't you put a bounty out there and then a finder's fee for whoever finds this guy.
Mike Wright
I will offer a large pizza from Peter Piper and I will throw in 10 tokens for you to waste on the ticket machines.
Jason Moore
10 tokens?
Mike Wright
10 tokens and a pizza. I will put pepperoni on that pizza and I will eat it with you if you can give me my fantasy.
Jason Moore
Wait, what is your current handle now?
Mike Wright
FF Hitman.
Jason Moore
And you want the Fantasy Hitman.
Mike Wright
I just want Fantasy Hitman. I believe the Fantasy Hitman is too long because Twitter is encroaching on my characters.
Jason Moore
That's true. It encroached on our show's characters. That's why we are FF Ballers. So it might not be that bad to keep your handle the way it is.
Mike Wright
It's a good handle. But Fantasy Hitman is. Oh, man.
Jason Moore
So you heard it here first. Pizza and tokens for pepperoni pizza.
Mike Wright
Figure this out and a hot date with the hitman and we'll talk fantasy football.
Jason Moore
Yeah, send us your questions, send us your emails and we will be back next week with more breaking news. We'll go through the rest of our quarterback rankings and we'll keep this fantasy train rolling. It is March, but it don't matter. The draft is almost a year round sport. We know there are. We know that you're like us and you never want to stop talking about fantasy football. And if you're the league champion, you never want to stop gloating, holding it over your league mates. Just like Mike does to me, beating me in the title last year.
Mike Wright
I'm glad you brought that up.
Jason Moore
So disappointing. But that's okay, because I'll get him this year. So join us next week. We are the Fantasy Footballers. Take care.
Mike Wright
Goodbye.
Andy Holloway
Thank you for listening to another edition of the Fantasy Footballers Podcast.
Fantasy Football Podcast 2015 - Early QB Rankings, News & Notes, Mailbag
Release Date: March 19, 2015
Hosts: Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, Mike "The Fantasy Hitman" Wright
The episode kicks off with the familiar banter among the hosts, Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike Wright. Their chemistry is evident as they joke about recording in the middle of March and express their unwavering passion for fantasy football. Andy emphasizes the show's popularity, stating, "Gentlemen, this is the best thing on the planet and everybody listening knows it" (00:46).
Jason reads a heartfelt review from a listener, Gucci7684, who praises the Fantasy Footballers for their grounded and humble approach compared to other cocky analysts. Gucci comments, "The hosts are knowledgeable and funny, but they come off as grounded and humble and no one on the show is a D bag" (02:48). The hosts appreciate the feedback, with Jason highlighting it as "the best compliment I've ever been paid" (03:34).
The hosts dive into the latest NFL news:
Charles Clay & Percy Harvin to the Buffalo Bills: Charles Clay signs a deal reportedly worth $20 million guaranteed over five years (05:01). Percy Harvin secures a three-year contract with an option after the first year (05:37).
Jacob Tamme Joins Atlanta Falcons: Jacob Tamme's addition sparks mixed feelings, especially as fans like Andy had high hopes for tight ends like Jermaine Gresham, who is now facing surgery and delayed signing (05:43).
Unsigned Players: Michael Crabtree and Wes Welker remain unsigned, generating minimal buzz in the free-agent market (06:37).
The discussion shifts to identifying the most overpaid players in free agency:
Trent Richardson: Andy names Trent Richardson as the most overpaid, arguing he should receive no guaranteed money given his performance (07:29).
Charles Clay: Jason and Mike critique Clay's hefty contract, deeming it "outrageous" relative to his accomplishments (09:00). They discuss the AFC East's arms race, mentioning moves like Ryan Fitzpatrick's acquisition.
Terrell Suggs in Miami: Mike argues that Terrell Suggs is overpaid, noting issues off the field despite his defensive prowess (08:10).
A significant portion of the episode focuses on the hosts' consensus rankings for early quarterbacks, emphasizing the importance of strategic drafting:
Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers)
Andrew Luck (Indianapolis Colts)
Russell Wilson (Seattle Seahawks)
Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons)
Peyton Manning (Denver Broncos)
Strategic Insights on Quarterback Drafting
Jason and Mike discuss the merits of drafting elite quarterbacks early versus employing a streaming strategy. Mike advocates for streaming quarterbacks based on weekly matchups, arguing that positions like running back don't offer the same flexibility. Jason counters by emphasizing the reliability of elite QBs like Rodgers and Luck, suggesting their consistent high performance makes them worthy early picks despite traditional advice against it (20:20, 28:44).
The episode concludes with a listener question from Sean in Fresno, California, seeking advice on selecting a wide receiver keeper:
They also humorously address Mike's quest to reclaim the "Fantasy Hitman" Twitter handle, adding light-hearted moments to the episode's close.
The hosts wrap up the episode by reiterating their availability on various platforms and encouraging listeners to subscribe and leave reviews. They tease future episodes covering more quarterback rankings and additional mailbag questions, reinforcing their commitment to providing insightful and entertaining fantasy football advice year-round.
Jason Moore on Listener Review: "The podcast of the week. Someone's on cold medicine this morning. That's the best compliment I've ever been paid" (03:34).
Andy Holloway on Early QB Drafting: "Listeners, I do not think that it is a bad idea to go after, if you're in the early rounds, Aaron Rodgers or Andrew Luck" (20:27).
Mike Wright on Streaming QBs: "Players reach for quarterbacks early in the draft a lot of the times... if you elect to do that, you're not going to be able to stream that" (07:29).
This episode of the Fantasy Footballers Podcast offers a deep dive into early quarterback rankings, evaluates the financial worth of top free-agent players, and provides strategic advice for fantasy football enthusiasts. The hosts blend expert analysis with engaging discussions, ensuring listeners are well-equipped to dominate their fantasy leagues.
