I'm gonna. I'm go with Alex Smith. I think Alex Smith is going to have a good year. I like him, but not this week. His matchup is Horrendous. And so if you think, oh, he did great, he's got new weapons and you're going to go and play him, you're going to be safe.

He is playing the. He is playing the 85 Bears this week. Is that right there?

[Mike Wright]

But it's the guys who played in 85, so they're very old.

Play Alex Smith.

That's why it's horrific. That's why it's a horrific match up.

Yeah, they're on dialysis. But anyways. All right, so Alex Smith coming back to earth. I could see that. I'm, you know, Thursday night football games have a tradition of not being high scoring affairs.

Yeah, the, the only thing I will knock against that is just what happened last year of the beginning of the season. Every Thursday night was a blowout and by the home team in. Or was it the. I don't know how to blow out one way or the other.

[Andy Holloway]

Explain this to me. How will Alex Smith drop back to earth if Jeremy Macklin has five touchdowns on the season? No, that's meant on Thursday.

[Jason Moore]

He answered it.

All right, so I'll, I'll answer this question and I'm going to go with Marcus Mariota. Mariota. It's Mariota now.

[Mike Wright]

You can't.

[Jason Moore]

You got the Goodell.

I've got the Goodell because I have to think about it. No, I think everybody, you know, I signed him in a league that I had Sam Bradford, because why not, I mean, just take a chance on a guy, maybe he comes out and he lights it up again. I like Mariota from a real life quarterback perspective and we've talked about that before. That being said, you're not getting that production probably the rest of the year, perhaps multiple years. That just doesn't happen very often. When you get four touchdowns in the first half, you barely have to throw the ball. The defense created turnover short fields. So I think this week it doesn't mean he's gonna have a bad fantasy week. It just means that he's not going to put up the same kind of production. And I had somebody actually send me a message and argue with me vehemently that they should start Mariota over Andrew Luck this week.

Yeah, I highly suggest doing that.

[Andy Holloway]

And it was like Mariota is really good was the argument. And I'm like, every four passes he throws a touchdown.

[Jason Moore]

Yeah, it's really, really good. I will say this. We'll talk about it more later because Marcus Mariota is my start of the week. Little Spoiler alert.

My guy who will come crashing and horrifically would be overstating it, but I think he's going to come down a decent bit is Keenan Allen. Now KEENAN Allen had 17 targets last week and he had 15 catches, 166 yards. When you break down his numbers though, his yards per target were just slightly over six yards. So if he doesn't get that insane target volume he or score a touchdown, you're going to have a much more low end wide receiver to wide receiver three day from a guy that you're probably overreacting to thinking that Keenan Allen is back into the number one discussion.

Very fair. Let's get into some news and notes.

News and notes from around the league.

[Andy Holloway]

All right. There's been a lot of buzz this week about A one Todd Gurley. I think we're all excited to see Gurley take the field on an offense that seems to be very conducive to his skill set and to running the ball. That being said, ESPN Rams reporter Nick Wagoner does not expect Todd Gurley to play in Week 2 against the Red. The other side of that equation is Tre Mason, who appears to be healthy. So how are you projecting Mason and any thoughts on the girly news?

[Mike Wright]

The girly news is not surprising with the news a little bit ago that said he might not play until week five or week six. So I expect him to miss this week and potentially at least next week if Trey Mason is healthy, which I believe that he will be. I like him as a low end running back to type a guy who I'm going to plug in at least into my flex. But I like him this week. I have him. I have him started out surprisingly well as my 19th quarter running back in standard.

[Jason Moore]

I think that's appropriate. I have him lower right now because when I did my stats he wasn't as healthy, he wasn't practicing and doing that. But I think he's going to get the lion's share there.

[Andy Holloway]

All right. Most of the news and notes today are injury updates and information. So let's give you some running back news. Lorenzo Taliaferro is back in practice in full and I expect him to actually take. If I was having to start start him or Buck Allen, it would be.

[Mike Wright]

Teleferro and for set was limited in practice on Wednesday, which we have no further news upon. We don't. It didn't sound like an injury. We don't know of an injury.

[Andy Holloway]

I'M not worried about it. C.J. spiller practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday. C.J. anderson, toe and ankle injury listed as questionable. He has the early game this week on Thursday.

[Mike Wright]

If you have Anderson, please have a backup option just in case.

[Andy Holloway]

Yeah, hopefully it's Ronnie Hillman. Hopefully your backup option is Ronnie Hillman. And the truth is is if Anderson plays on a short week with the injury and questionable nature, he's going to lose carries to Ronnie Hillman. There's just no two ways about it. Which is going to add fuel to the C.J. anderson bust fire. Because of all the panicking owners. You're probably not going to be very happy this week. I just.

[Mike Wright]

Yeah. And it's a very tough defense. Cassie's front is spectacular.

[Andy Holloway]

I think Anderson will be okay, but if he is injured, he's not going to give you a great week. So any thoughts on Spiller?

[Mike Wright]

I think Spiller plays and I think Anderson is a fantastic target next week if he has a mediocre or bad game.

[Jason Moore]

Both of those guys, both of those guys are guys that I would target. I would target C.J. spiller right now. I think he's going to blow up this week. And if you get him after this week, no bueno.

[Andy Holloway]

And then two more running back notes. Reggie Bush of the 49ers, his calf was injured. It is not torn. It's considered week to week with a strain. Arian Foster was officially ruled out for week two, which I think we all kind of assumed would be the case. But there was buzz last week about, oh, could he really be back from the wide receiver position. Mike Evans, Golden Tate and who else? Demarius Thomas Demaryius practiced in full. Golden Tate did not practice with a quad injury, so you need to pay attention to that. And then Mike Evans was listed as limited, but I think we're expecting him to play, are we not?

Yeah, I think we are.

And then Derek Carr, for all of you. Derek Carlos, is.

[Jason Moore]

That would be you.

He's. Hey, it's good for Amari Cooper. Amari Cooper had only 47 yards receiving and that led all rookies last week, which is a slow start for the rookie wide receivers.

[Jason Moore]

I think it's a regular start for rookie wide receivers. We just got skewed by last year being so much above and beyond. But rookie wide receivers have a chance to blow up and so, you know, they might be given a short week. 1. How are you guys feeling? How's your comfort level with Peyton Manning?

[Andy Holloway]

I'm fine with him.

Really?

Yeah, I'm fine with them tonight. So if I expect a bounce backs game, a bounce back game for them, the I believe they're getting like three points in Vegas and I think that they will cover that and I think that they will have a very good game tonight. I think it will be efficient. I think Peyton will have two to three touchdowns.

You think the Broncos will cover and beat that?

[Andy Holloway]

Yeah, I think that. I think the Broncos plus the points is fine.

[Mike Wright]

Okay, so let's try and run some hypotheticals. Peyton Manning or Carson Palmer?

[Andy Holloway]

I would take. I think I was asked this question multiple times and I think I said that I don't have the cajones to sit Peyton tonight.

[Mike Wright]

Okay. Peyton Manning or Philip Rivers?

[Andy Holloway]

Peyton Manning.

[Andy Holloway]

Yeah, I'm okay with Peyton tonight. I think that Denver wins the game and that's what it just comes down to. I just think a bounce back game. They weren't happy with their offensive production. Nobody was. And I think they come back and they have a better game tonight. That being said, they need to protect him and they couldn't do it last week. So.

Yeah, and this is going to be, I think, a harder time to protect them.

It's possible.

Kansas City with a faster D line.

There's a reason they're an underdog tonight. So let's talk about the wide receivers. Jeremy Macklin, he's a little banged up. Do you guys have any thoughts on Macklin this week?

[Mike Wright]

I think Macklin is going to have a tough go of it. The the DBs for the Broncos. I mean, it's funny to just focus on defenses, but both the Chiefs and the Broncos have spectacular defenses. The DBs on the Broncos are the truth. Macklin is going to have a hard time. And Alex Smith is the ultimate in risk aversion quarterbacks. If he sees a guy who is not wide open, he's not going to throw him the ball. He's not a big fan of the 50, 50 balls. So unless they get Macklin, those those bubble screens and the quick touches Where Macklin's able to make it happen on his own. I see another similar output to week one.

[Andy Holloway]

For the one, he didn't have a bad week one. No, it wasn't just that. But it's not. You're saying it's not going to be anything special.

[Mike Wright]

Right. He's not going to lose you the week.

[Andy Holloway]

Would you take him over Sanders this week?

[Mike Wright]

I would still take Sanders.

Peyton Manning has not looked good under pressure and he showed last year and through week one that, you know, Emmanuel Sanders is one of his absolute safety valve quick guys. And if the pass rush is coming quick, which I expect it to be coming tonight, then Emmanuel Sanders is going to get peppered with some of those short targets. So not Owen Davis.

[Andy Holloway]

We got to move on to the next matchup. But I will say this. The Broncos only gave up 100 yards through the air last week. So if you're talking about the Alex Smith coming down to earth, that is a very good stat to pay attention to. So the second game I want to talk about is going to be a. What I think is probably another defensive orientated game. The Patriots at the Bills in Buffalo. You know, Rex Ryan finds a way against the Patriots. A lot of the time these games are generally minus the butt fumble. They're not. They've been really close. And the Bills have a stout defense. Mike would call it the truth.

[Mike Wright]

And so Tom Brady, what do you think of him this week? I mean, I am very low on him.

[Mike Wright]

I am, I agree. I am very low. I think Tom Brady for me is a matchup dependent guy. He always, always has the Gronk option. So it doesn't shock me whenever Brady has a good type of game where he could have a poor yardage game and still end up with three touchdowns to Gronkowski.

[Jason Moore]

But if what you're reading about the Bills. Did you guys read the note that they made triple team Gronkowski?

[Jason Moore]

Yeah.

Yeah. Where he said if they don't have King Kong to play defense, they're not one on one in him. Yeah.

So if, and that to me is, is honestly is the key is if you can shut down Gronkowski, I will give up those, those little nickel dime things to Edelman and Amidola where they work great, but they work because they start sucking you up. If you just, if you just give those up and play towards the, those short slants and everything. I just don't think you can sustain that the entire game with drives. It's too easy to screw something up one time and then. And be hosed and get a second and long and then you're. Then you're in trouble.

Yeah. What's amazing about a guy like Gronkowski and the other person I put in that category based on last week is Julio Jones. It kind of takes one mistake, right, to ruin the game from that perspective. They're that talented where it's not necessarily you could play gronk great for 95% of the time, but that other 5% is three or four plays that could end your game. And that's just the amazing thing about a talent like that is that you, you know, one time you have a miscommunication. One time a guy doesn't come across the field. And that's why, you know, you should be confident starting Gronkowski this week, regardless.

[Jason Moore]

Of the defense every week. I mean, Dwayne Allen scored on the awesome Bills last week, so Gronk getting in there, you know, is realistic. Another guy I almost went with for my. Who's going to come way down to earth is Tyrod Taylor this week. And solely because there's tape on him now and I'm a Huge Belichick believer. And I think that Week 2, Belichick has the ability to scheme Tyrod Taylor out to confuse him, to bottle him up. So I don't like him this week. I do like him going forward.

Critical question for the game. Will Sammy Watkins catch his first pass of the season?

[Mike Wright]

All right. The Texans at my top defense of the week, the Carolina Panthers. When Ryan Mallet gets to come out for his first start against a wonderful defense, I want that defense because Ryan Mallet is going to make a mistake the same way Brian Hoyer makes a mistake. And so from the quarterback position, I don't really like anybody in this game. I mean, the Texans are a stout defensive front. Cam Newton did run the ball a lot last week. So if you're in a league that, you know, really four point touchdown league rewards the running game. He had 14 attempts at the rush, at rushes last week, which is a ton for a quarterback. So you got to be excited about that going forward, but not necessarily this game. What do we think about Alfred Blue and Jon Stewart?

[Jason Moore]

I don't like either of them because I like both defenses. I don't think either running game right now as far as strictly run games are doing well, are elite enough to go against the opposite defense. I don't like any offensive player on any side of either ball except for DeAndre Hopkins, who I do think can be, you know, if, if Carolina has one weakness, they've got a little bit slower safeties. So a Fast deep guy can get past. And I think that Mallet has a better arm than hoyer for the deep ball. So in that sense, I think that maybe Hopkins could break a long one and that's it.

[Andy Holloway]

Let me throw a name out here we have not mentioned yet that is worth throwing out. Do you know who I'm going to say, Mike?

I think that Philip Rivers is going to keep Going and doing what he does. For me, I think with that news, I would probably put Woodhead a little bit above Gordon for this game specifically. But I think this is going to be a tight end game because I feel like.

But it wasn't in my opinion. It wasn't just Calvin Johnson. It was also Golden Tate. San Diego has a really good pass defense and so I think that, you know, that's where I think the tight ends, you know, you saw Eric Ebron kind of get loose. Right. But for me, I'm not huge on AJ I mean I've got him 14, so he's a high end wide receiver too. I think he's okay.

But I like Woodhead. I'm just throwing that out there.

This should be of the general consensus I believe between us is that the Cardinals fantasy relevant players have a good opportunity here, especially Carson Palmer. A lot of people considering signing and starting in.

Yes, I'm starting Palmer, especially over Cutler. But if you don't like your one option. I like Palmer this week for running backs. Chris Johnson is probably the guy to go with in standard but if any kind of points for catching half point or full point, I have David Johnson higher.

I'm not saying he's dead. I'm saying, do you. Is he going to be a top five guy this week? Xavier Rhodes is a spectacular corner.

Yeah. I'm not giving too much. I give credit to the Calvin Johnson and he's number five for me this week. Yes is the answer.

Mike has him at 2, Jason at 6. I think that is all on the basis of Julio Jones being okay. And we didn't mention it in that. I don't know why we didn't mention it. I blame whoever put the news in Mike because they go ahead. He didn't practice.

Right. But. No but.

[Andy Holloway]

And he's Julio Jones and he's injury prone.

[Mike Wright]

That's. That's a fair point.

When asked about Julio's injury, Dan Quinn laughed and said they were joking about in the game because if you watch the game, he was in and out and he looked a little banged up on the leg. But I'm not concerned about it right now.

[Andy Holloway]

Well, that's good because I have him in basically every league, so. All right, running back position. We saw the Tevin Coleman, devontae Freeman experience last week. Now, the caveat here, I'm still going to remind you, it was no catches for Coleman, three catches for Freeman, pass protection for Freeman. He certainly didn't produce on the ground the way Coleman did. Coleman, we all agreed, looked the part.

[Jason Moore]

He got 20 carries. That blew me away. And I think it says going forward.

[Andy Holloway]

That'S a great number for a rookie.

[Jason Moore]

Tevin Coleman's going to be the guy there.

[Mike Wright]

And I really like Tevin Coleman this week.

[Andy Holloway]

Okay. And I don't blame you for that. Rashad Jennings is the guy I like in the running back. Yeah.

[Mike Wright]

He got the goal. He got the goal line carry even after fumbling.

[Andy Holloway]

Yep. Why is toy Lola written down as the tight end for the Falcons? That would be Jacob Tammy. That's who I'm concerned about.

[Mike Wright]

I don't know either of them.

Yeah, well, don't start either neither.

[Jason Moore]

Neither of them is the one the.

Falcons Were very good against the run last week. We should remind our listeners of that.

And continue to play Roddy White until he is not healthy.

Start of the week. Last week, plenty of targets to go around when Julio Jones is attracting like four of them, four defenders. So I mean Julio was outstanding last year. I don't think we spent enough time talking about his impact because it was.

The greatness that is Julio Jones.

He is wonderful. I'm having him over for a froyo.

I heard he saved five orphans from a. From a burning.

Starts of the week.

All right, let's go ahead and go through our starts of the week. We'll start with the tight end position and I'm going to kick it to Mike, who is your tight end start of the week.

[Mike Wright]

My tight end. I'm going back to the. Well, Martellus Bennett, the tight end versus the Cardinals. And my reasoning for that is because Patrick Peterson was so good that I think he's going to give Alshon Jeffrey a tough week which is going to leave some, some, some crevices open for Martellus Bennett to. To get in the end zone.

[Jason Moore]

I love it. That was going to be mine, except I picked him last week. But he's beautiful. He's my number three tight end this week.

[Andy Holloway]

All right, Jason, what is your tight end start of the week?

[Jason Moore]

My tight end start of the week is Jason Whitten with no Des Bryant. I think there's going to be extra targets to go around. They're not all going to go to Terrence Williams and it's going to be a high scoring game. So I like Jason Whitten as just a really plug and play great option.

[Andy Holloway]

I'm going to go a little deeper because I'm ambitious and bold and I'm going to pick Vernon Davis at the Steelers. I think he was not bad last week. I watched that game pretty closely. He ran a lot of routes. He was open and he has the tendency to run kind of those post routes and take one of the house. And I like Vernon Davis as a surprise play. If you are in desperate need. I would roll him out against Pittsburgh because Pittsburgh has not learned to play defense.

[Jason Moore]

Vernon Davis or Austin Sparing Jenkins.

[Andy Holloway]

Vernon Davis.

[Jason Moore]

All right, There you go.

[Andy Holloway]

Which is probably. I'm probably alone in that one.

[Mike Wright]

Yep.

So at the wide receiver position, my start of the week is Terrence Williams at the Eagles. It's a simple equation here it is one Part Tony Romo, one part no Des Bryant. And I like Terrence Williams. He had a good week last week. If you're a fantasy owner, he was okay for you without a touchdown. And so I like Terrence Williams and he's going to.

[Mike Wright]

The Cowboys will have to score if they're going to keep up with the Eagles.

[Andy Holloway]

Exactly. So, Jason, who's yours?

[Jason Moore]

I've got John Brown, Johnny Boomtown. I think it's going to be high scoring game in Chicago. I think from what I saw week one, the way when things matter, I think John Brown's going to be the guy that he's going to and I expect him to get in the end zone.

[Andy Holloway]

Love me some John Brown. All right, Mike, who's your wide receiver start of the week?

[Mike Wright]

My wide receiver start of the week is Pierre Garcon and this is PPR related. PPR alert, people. Week one because desean Jackson was out and he's going to miss again. Compared to last year's numbers, Garcon doubled almost everything. His targets, his catches and his yards. Garcon has always been a solid receiver when he gets the volume. And I think they're going to have to get him the volume against a tough defense in St. Louis.

[Andy Holloway]

I love it. I like that pick. All right, Jason, why don't you kick us your running back start of the week?

[Jason Moore]

My running back start of the week is Mark Ingram because I disagree with Tampa Bay being good and so I.

[Andy Holloway]

Oh, no, no, no, no. Let me. Nobody said Tampa Bay was good.

[Jason Moore]

Well able to beat the saints who.

[Andy Holloway]

Are 01 and not good.

[Jason Moore]

Okay. I think that the Saints will be in the lead. I think that they used Mark Ingram in passing situations, too. I expect him to clobber Tampa Bay. I have a very good opportunity to score a touchdown no matter how the game goes. Marking room's great. I actually have him right now in PPR and half point PPR as my number one.

[Andy Holloway]

Bold. Spicy. All right, My running back start of the week is Justin for set.

[Mike Wright]

Because you're going so deep.

[Andy Holloway]

That's. That's not. I mean, he's a little banged up.

[Mike Wright]

I was just mocking you because you felt so. You were so deep with your Vernon Davis and now you're going with a guy drafted in the second round.

[Andy Holloway]

Yep.

He bounces back this week. Mike, who's your running back start of the week?

[Mike Wright]

I completely agree with Justin Forsette bouncing back this week. My running back start of the week is Tevin Coleman. He went 20 for 80 against the Eagles and Devonte Freeman went 10 for 18. 10 for 18.

[Andy Holloway]

Hey, he ran for more yards, but every time he didn't, he got caught in the backfield.

[Mike Wright]

Devonte Freeman is, you know those, those inflatable things when you're a kid and you punch it and it just falls over immediately. I mean, it gets back up, but you don't take much, very much strength to knock it down. That's devonte Freeman. As Tevin Coleman grows and he gets more trust in the coaching staff, he's going to start getting in on passing downs. But for now, even without those, I got Tevin Coleman.

[Andy Holloway]

I'm going to need some fumbles from Coleman to win this. You sure are. All right, the quarterback position. Let's go ahead and let Mike keep that going here. The quarterback start of the week for.

[Mike Wright]

Mike is Carson Palmer. I'm continuing with my. My great love for Carson Palmer. He went beast mode to steal a player's nickname with 307 yards and three touchdowns. And now he goes up against the Bears, who, wow, they didn't give up a ton of yardage to Aaron Rodgers. It's because Rodgers is so effective. So I love Carson Palmer, even on the road.

[Andy Holloway]

All right, Jason.

[Jason Moore]

Well, we said it earlier, but it is Marcus Mariota. Now, I'm not expecting him to come out and throw four touchdowns and a half, but I think he's going to have a great matchup here with Cleveland. He is going to be.

[Andy Holloway]

Give me the stat line you have for him. The stat line. I'm curious.

[Jason Moore]

Yeah, the stat line I have for him is 200 passing yards, two touchdowns. I've got him stated for half an interception about, you know, that's how we stat here. 25 yards on the ground and no running touchdowns. So that to me puts him. I would start him over Cam Newton. I would start him over Colin Kaepernick, Alex Smith and Eli Manning.

[Andy Holloway]

All right. I don't mind those numbers. I don't think we actually disagree. I think him coming back down to earth is those numbers. So I think we're like, you know.

[Jason Moore]

Yeah, but I think the question in all fairness, said is going to, like, horrifically come back to earth.

[Andy Holloway]

Yeah, we all really didn't listen to that in our replies, though, because Keenan Allen, we said, wasn't going to horrifically come back to earth and maybe Alex Smith will.

[Jason Moore]

I think he will.

Okay. And so my quarterback start of the week to wrap up our starts of the week segment is Sammy Biscuits. Sammy. Biscuits.

Bones. Bones are made of biscuits.

Oh, he did twist his ankle. But Sammy Bradford is who we're talking about. He's facing Dallas. I felt like they found a groove and got comfortable in the second half. It's a first game out last week. And the truth is, is Philadelphia, you're going to see this a lot this year. They're going to beat teams in the second half of games because they wear them down. Part of what their offense is predicated on is wearing down the defense with the speed that they. They kind of throw out there. So I like him this week against Dallas. He missed. I mean, he did throw another touchdown last week. That didn't count because Chip Kelly decided not to throw the red flag. Why.

[Mike Wright]

Why do coaches hold these. These challenge flags like it's precious.

[Andy Holloway]

My precious. He's above the challenge.

[Jason Moore]

He didn't need to need it. He had Ryan Dreamcatcher Matthews.

[Mike Wright]

It was. That's his new nickname, the Dreamcatcher. It wasn't just them. It was also Tampa Bay with Vincent. Jackson should have had a touchdown.
