Welcome to the Fantasy Footballers Podcast with your hosts, Andy Holloway, Jason Moore and Mike Wright.
Andy Holloway
Hello. Hey, hey, hey, baby beard. It's me, the baby beard.
Mike Wright
Well, that's not what they're calling you on Twitter.
Andy Holloway
Oh, oh, yeah. What do they call me on Twitter, Mike?
Mike Wright
They're calling you the Fantasy Reaper, my friend.
Andy Holloway
Ah, the Fantasy Reaper.
Mike Wright
You get. You get high in Andy's rankings, you go down.
Andy Holloway
I.
Unknown
Really. Shouldn't that be the Fantasy Hitman?
Mike Wright
I mean, that's why I said, I know the hitman. I take people out. Not my people. I protect my people.
Andy Holloway
I. Welcome to the show. This is the Fantasy Footballers Podcast. What Mike the Fantasy Hitman, Right. Is referring to is the fact that Shady McCoy went down yesterday. We just. We were on Chris Harris's podcast yesterday. Just. And I was talking about how I'm rising on LaShawn McCoy. We all know what happened with Arian Foster, who used to be my number one running back this offseason. And now Shady McCoy goes down with what's looking to be less severe than initially thought. But, man, that was a scary day.
Mike Wright
Hamstring, correct? Yeah, it's a pulled hamstring.
Andy Holloway
Let me say this. I may be the Fantasy Reaper and my guys might go down, but from what I can tell, none of the muscles actually coming off the bone in these situations. Yeah, because initially it's reported that Aryans did and it didn't. And now Shady Rex Ryan came out and said, hey, it did not separate from the bone. So I'm. I'm merciful.
Mike Wright
Shout out to our. Our supporter mugs. Yeah, Muggs was the one who coined that term and.
Andy Holloway
Oh, he said that?
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
I thought you both said it. That's funny.
Unknown
Just wait. Just wait for the image. Image to follow.
Andy Holloway
Oh, man. Welcome to the show. Excited because we have four episodes this week. We're bringing news and notes every day. And I'm glad because there's so much news going on in the fantasy world. We have wide receiver rankings 21 through 40 on today's show. If you missed yesterday's show, we went 1 through 20. We also had Steve Randazzisi from the league.
Mike Wright
Kevin.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, he was on the show. Yeah, Kevin from the league. So that was fun. That was a good time. And today we have. We're gonna do some mailbag. Cause we couldn't fit it into yesterday's show. We got some news and notes. I'll make some predictions about some players and then they'll get injured this afternoon. So what we want to do now is just take a minute to read a review from the listeners. We appreciate all the reviews that have been coming in on itunes. So every once in a while we want to read one of those and say thanks.
Jason Moore
Reviewasaurus Rex.
Unknown
This one comes in from K. Benjamin. Wow.
Andy Holloway
We'll talk about that in a minute.
Unknown
These guys are great to listen to, knowledgeable and entertaining without droning on about one topic. They give the people what they want, need to know and move on for where they're at in the podcast rankings, I'd say the footballers are this season's steal of the draft.
Andy Holloway
I couldn't help but. And thank you very much, K. Benjamin, your review is selected because of your name. Because some news broke this morning moments ago that Kelvin Benjamin is a little.
Mike Wright
Banged up, carted off the field with an apparent knee injury.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. The initial reports were a lot of fear. What's coming through the wire now is that hopefully it's just a knee sprain.
Mike Wright
Yeah, that's what we're hearing.
Andy Holloway
But you know, what if he hasn't had an MRI yet and he's going to get an mri, you just don't know.
Mike Wright
Yeah, but the doctors are pretty good about knowing if an ACL is torn. The MRI is always just to make sure.
Andy Holloway
He's probably fine. He wasn't on my top draft list, so he's probably fine.
Unknown
Yeah, that's a good point.
Mike Wright
I bet you were thinking about moving him up, though.
Andy Holloway
No, he's one player. I wasn't and certainly not now. But okay, let's say Benjamin's out a while. Let's give him four to six weeks. He's out. Who moves up? Is it funches?
Unknown
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Probably not Kachari.
Mike Wright
Maybe funches a little bit or my man J. Stu coming through. I'm gonna give him the ball.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Because that's what he needs. A big workload.
Mike Wright
Don't care.
Unknown
Yeah, I would. I would move functions up a little bit.
Andy Holloway
So quick question for the day is related to Jason. So it's perfect. Perfect timing here. Quick question. Is Jonathan Stewart or Mark Ingram, who are you drafting?
Mike Wright
You go ahead, Jay.
Unknown
Sure. I'm drafting Mark Ingram without a shadow of a doubt. If it's a standard league, it's close call. But I've got Mark Ingram above Stu even by two spots, even in a ppr.
Mike Wright
So these fellows are literally back to back.
Andy Holloway
That's why I chose them. Oh, well, I looked at your rankings and I picked two guys back to back and I said, who would you actually take right now?
Mike Wright
Jonathan Stewart.
Andy Holloway
Okay. See, for me, I.
Mike Wright
This was. And before the news, I.
Andy Holloway
They're both going so high that I. I mean, I'd probably take Ingram because I just have never seen Jonathan Stewart stay healthy.
Mike Wright
Yeah, we have.
Andy Holloway
When?
Unknown
Once.
Mike Wright
It was a couple years ago.
Andy Holloway
Couple years ago.
Mike Wright
But here's the. Here's the thing. A couple years ago we saw him two healthy seasons and was awesome. We've seen Mark Ingram do it for one year in a contract, which I like. I like Ingram, but I'm just.
Andy Holloway
It's a fair argument. And we talked to Chris Harris on the show and he talked about the tape and the tape of Jonathan Stewart is. Yeah, I think we all know that. It's just a matter of health. Yeah. And the offense, you know, I can't help but think New Orleans is going to score more points than Carolina is going to score.
Mike Wright
I can agree with that. But the Carolina defense, I think, yeah, it's interesting. We saw it come back the second half of last season and if that's what they want to be, is the defense, pound it.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. So if you want to follow the show, you can do so on Twitter at theffballers. Be sure to check out the YouTube channel if you subscribe on there. All the episodes, we record them in the studio and they go onto YouTube. So you can actually watch them on your Apple TV. You can watch them on YouTube. You can check out the show. You can see Mike's big time beard and my baby beard. And then Jason too.
Unknown
Yeah, I also have a baby beard. You do so need to put some of that handsome, fancy.
Andy Holloway
How do you decide? Just people trim the beards at different neck levels. I mean, what goes into that decision?
Unknown
I think that question has to be answered by Mike because I feel like my beard is very stupid.
Mike Wright
I think your beard is good.
Unknown
Thank you.
Andy Holloway
That means a lot. But coming from Mike, you know what.
Mike Wright
The big beard, you don't shave your neck well.
Andy Holloway
I know. Yeah, that's.
Mike Wright
You just let it go.
Andy Holloway
You just let it go because it's all hidden.
Mike Wright
Yep.
Andy Holloway
I pretty much just let my wife decide where the trim line is on my beard. She tells me I hope every morning.
Unknown
She just shaves your neck with a straight razor.
Andy Holloway
Every morning right when I wake up, just to keep my kill me in.
Mike Wright
My place, don't let Arian Foster or. Or LaShawn McCoy shave your neck.
Andy Holloway
No, because they'll take me out. Let's get into some. Some more news.
Jason Moore
News and notes from around the league.
Andy Holloway
Well, we've briefed you on Kelvin Benjamin and Lashawn McCoy who went down with a hamstring injury yesterday. But the reports coming out this morning is that he will be betting he will be ready for week one.
Mike Wright
However, we will say this. Carlos Williams, who was looking like he was going to take the job as the two. Some kind of illness. It's going to be out for weeks.
Andy Holloway
You know what it is?
Mike Wright
You know. You know what it is?
Andy Holloway
It's Fred Jackson poisoning him. Because Fred Jackson is like, he just cannot go away. He has been. He was one of the, like, two guys that's been underdrafted for three straight years. And you just think, no way. This year they brought in Shady Carlos Williams. Now they're talking about. I mean, there's some rumors.
Unknown
74 years old.
Andy Holloway
It's just amazing. He might have. Incredible. If Shady was out. Jackson's like a top 12 back to me.
Mike Wright
Really?
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Unknown
I wouldn't go that far if he's.
Andy Holloway
Been a top 12 the past few. I mean, he was a top 12 back two years ago.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
I mean, Rex Ryan is going to throw the ball to the running back. He's going to hand it to the running back.
Mike Wright
He becomes an immediate RB2 for me.
Andy Holloway
@ least that'd be safe.
Mike Wright
Is this. Is this a coincidence or not? LaShawn McCoy and before we saw CJ Spiller just could not stay healthy in Buffalo.
Andy Holloway
So maybe the real. Maybe the real fantasy reaper is Fred Jackson, which is so sad because Fred Jackson's like one of the nicest guys.
Mike Wright
You would never suspect him.
Unknown
Right.
Mike Wright
It's the perfect.
Andy Holloway
Oh, my goodness. So stay. You know, if you got Shady, you're probably okay. But that's not good news. He doesn't get to play anymore this preseason. Maybe that is good news. The Ravens, John Harbaugh has said that the Rashad Perryman, rookie Rashad Perryman, his MRI has come back normal. That is good. We've seen Kevin White now go down for maybe the season. Perryman has a lot of opportunity in Baltimore, but it is good to, you know, he's been on the shelf.
Mike Wright
Yeah. This is not good timing for Perryman. He needs to get these reps he needs to get some preseason experience. They. They really, really need him in Baltimore. Yeah.
Unknown
Without Tory Smith there, his camp tape has been pretty mixed, too. You got good reports and then followed by bad reports.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. If you. If you want to pick a Ravens receiver to own for weeks one through eight, you can get a lot of value out of Steve Smith.
Mike Wright
Sonor.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Steve Sinor. Who is that? Pat Mayo. Yeah. Pat Mayo's dubbed him Sonor out of Vikings camp. Just a note. Right tackle Phil Loadholt.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
It has torn his Achilles. That stinks. I hate seeing these guys go down. I mean, it just. It's every day there's two or three guys. I mean, we recorded yesterday, this is all new news.
Mike Wright
And people are asking, what is the Peterson implication?
Andy Holloway
Almost nothing.
Mike Wright
They got a rook in the fourth round and he had. I can't recall his name off the top of my head, but he would. He dropped because of injury concerns. It's his talent level is there. So if that guy can stay healthy, he should be able to replace the talent at the right tackle position. So I'm not moving Peterson down at all.
Andy Holloway
I want everyone to pay attention to this next bit of news out of Saints camp. Sean Payton has said that wide receiver Brandon Coleman will see first team snaps. There is, and we said it all offseason, there is a huge opportunity for targets there. Drew Brees is going to have a Drew Brees season. They might run a little bit more, but he is an accurate passer and somebody's going to put up numbers. And you got Marcus Colson and Brandon Cooks and blank. And last year was Kenny Stills and Jimmy Graham and now Brandon Coleman, big body guy that's had an opportunity all off season to start pretty much ahead of Nick Tune, ahead of anybody else. So pay attention to what this next. I can't wait to see this next game and see what he looks like on the field.
Unknown
Yeah, I was looking forward to seeing him this last game and then he wasn't put in there. I was like, what is going on? So I'm excited by this, looking forward to hearing it. And I want to see, you know, where he's going to be drafted later in this preseason and see where his ADP is moving. If you want to know where people are being drafted, where you need to take a guy if you're like, man, I really want Amir Abdullah, where am I going to need to take him first round? If you are Mike the Hitman. Right. No.
Andy Holloway
Why don't you hear the review? That said, we don't drone on about one guy. I can't talk about him anymore.
Unknown
I apologize. Yeah. So if you want to draft and practice drafting, see where you need to take guys, go to fantasydraftwizard.com it's the exact same site that the three of us use. It's what we use on our mock drafts. I probably do one or two of those fantasy drafts every single day. Even if it's a keeper league, you can import your players and it's completely free, so sign up. It's great tool. Fantasy draftwizard.com you got it.
Andy Holloway
Let's get into the wide receivers.
Jason Moore
Wide receivers.
Andy Holloway
All right, let's go. 21 through 40. Obviously, a very deep position. I thought this was kind of the most important position to go deep as we can in because ultimately, you know, we prescribe drafting running backs early, which means that you're looking for value at wide receiver if you don't have those top guys. And there's a lot of it. So 21 is a guy that I. He's one of my guys. I'm afraid of saying that right now. I know he's already been banged up a little bit this offseason. He's back. Jeremy Macklin's our number 21. I'm very high on Alex Smith and very high on the Chiefs in general. And I think Jeremy Macklin is just a great, great wide receiver in the NFL. And his. And there's been reports in Chiefs camp that he has been. I mean, he's had a tremendous camp. Not that we should expect less. He got a big deal moving over to Kansas City. So let's talk about Jeremy Macklin. I get the feeling, Mike, that you coming around him a little bit.
Mike Wright
I have.
Andy Holloway
Is that the right.
Mike Wright
Yeah, a little bit. I've moved him, obviously, fees up to 21. I've bumped him up.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, because you would have killed my ranking.
Mike Wright
Yeah, absolutely. And here is my concern with Jeremy Macklin. He's played four years under Andy Reid and he has never put up over a thousand yards. He did have one year with 10 touchdowns, but he averaged 65, 863 yards and seven touchdowns under Andy Reid. And that's with Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick as your QB.
Andy Holloway
I just do not buy into that logic. And I know Jason probably does.
Mike Wright
So I'll explain you by why not.
Andy Holloway
Because the numbers that you're quoting end in 2012. And he was a different. He was a different player then. He wasn't the number one option on your team. He became a number one. He's he's healthy and it's three years removed. He's got signed as a number one receiver. I just think the talent is superior to the history there. It's one of those things where, I mean, we just talked about Matt Ryan with. Was it Harris?
Unknown
Yep.
Mike Wright
You're teasing a future show.
Andy Holloway
What do you mean?
Mike Wright
With jj?
Andy Holloway
Oh, you're right. You're right. So. But we, we've been talking about Matt Ryan. I mean his history says he's. He's a 7, 89 quarterback. We're projecting three. I could just recite his numbers in the past four years. And so for me it's not that way with Macklin. He was a number one last year. He got signed as a number one. He is a dominant route runner, a dominant deep threat. And so for me that's the argument is okay. Andy Reid coached him in 2012. Well, it's three years ago.
Unknown
Yeah, he's a talented guy. And what you just need to be careful of going into drafts is that you don't care about his name too much because he's got a great name. Jeremy Macklin has been a good name, a good guy to draft and he's not worth what his name was last year. And that's my main concern. He is a talented guy, but he's going to a team in a position that doesn't benefit wide receivers. And so you, you just need to be careful of not thinking that he is what he was last year. He's nowhere near that.
Andy Holloway
A five syllable name.
Mike Wright
I'll tell you. All he has to do is catch one touchdown and the the wide receiver touchdowns from the Chiefs jumps up 100%.
Andy Holloway
That is true.
Mike Wright
100%.
Andy Holloway
Hey, one touchdown. I'm not worried about it. Week one. You want to make that bet?
Mike Wright
No.
Unknown
Oh, what, you don't want to make a Week 1 touchdown bet with Andy?
Mike Wright
No. It can happen.
Andy Holloway
I don't see not 22 is a surprising name for me from a consensus ranking. I mean, Tori Smith.
Mike Wright
Tori Smith who?
Andy Holloway
That must be you, Mike.
Unknown
There's no way back to check my rankings right now.
Andy Holloway
There's no way I have that high. So going to San Francisco, obviously they need a top option there. Bolden is solid and tried and true, but he's not a deep threat anymore.
Mike Wright
Okay, you might want to check the rankings.
Andy Holloway
I'm looking because I am by far.
Mike Wright
The lowest on him.
Andy Holloway
Why am 23?
Mike Wright
You must have adjusted then.
Andy Holloway
Jason has him 18. So Jason, defend yourself.
Unknown
Let me look at the numbers here.
Mike Wright
Because Jason, that's Andy no, then I got it backwards.
Andy Holloway
Oh, no, you're right. I have him. I have to defend my. Okay. Yeah, I don't like him. There. That's. That'll be adjusted.
Mike Wright
Thank you.
Andy Holloway
That'll be adjusted. Yeah. So it's my fault. You know, it's probably a Kaepernick. It was a Kaepernick connection thing where a Kaepernick's projected at a certain price. Wait, I got to know every single guy.
Mike Wright
No, it's just hilarious. You're like, mike, how do you have Tory Smith?
Andy Holloway
Dude, I'm surprised. No, I don't. I don't like him more than Keenan Allen, who I have behind him right now.
Mike Wright
Okay, so here's the thing about Torrey Smith. Tremendous player, tremendous talent, but has been so boom bust in the past. And he had Joe Flacco last year, who is a much better deep ball thrower, in my opinion, than Colin Cowell.
Andy Holloway
They both have strong arms.
Mike Wright
Yes, but Joe Flacco has better accuracy. Anybody can. Not anybody, but anyone with a strong arm can line up and just, of course, heave it, but that doesn't mean it's going to get to the receiver. But there is just so many holes on that offense with. With players leaving. Crabtree's gone. Crabtree. And Crabtree is actually a decent receiver, people, but Torrey Smith now needs to help carry this offense. Anquin Bolden is another year older, and the defense is taking some losses with retirement. I think they're going to have to score points and Torrey Smith is going to have to help if.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, and he will. And I think if you look at where Torrey Smith has finished the past two years, it's been 22 and 22, like back to back years. So he's going to have his. I mean, he's like a D Jacks type of boom bus guy, only with. He's a little bit more consistent, Slightly more consistent. And he should be more consistent in San Francisco as the number one option there. You know, a lot of targets are gone. Crabtree, Stevie Johnson, Brandon Lloyd. So we'll see. We'll see what he has Larry Fitzgerald at 23, which puts him consensus wise as a wide receiver, too.
Mike Wright
Yes.
Unknown
And his value there is incredible because he is right now the 37th wide receiver off the board in average drafts. So if you're talking about a guy that we truly believe and we're. We're local here, we end up seeing a lot of film on fits. I think we're going to get down to the practice next week. And watch him go. But if you, if you think that he's going to finish where we think he's going to finish. If you look at how he played with Carson Palmer last year, he was an absolute great wide receiver. With Palmer, Palmer goes out and we have the worst quarterbacks of history behind him throwing the ball and he still only, didn't he only drop like one pass last year.
Andy Holloway
His catch percentage is incredible.
Unknown
People are writing Fitzgerald off and they shouldn't. There's no reason to. His draft position is just a Gold.
Andy Holloway
Give a 16 game pace last year with Palmer.
Mike Wright
We know Palmer only played six games, five full. But last year's pace with Carson Palmer, Larry Fitzgerald was on pace for 109 targets, 85 catches, almost 1300 yards and five touchdowns. To me, those early numbers are easily attainable for Larry Fitzgerald. And I think the touchdowns can even go up well.
Andy Holloway
And we have to remind people that Michael Floyd has been hurt this preseason as well. And so he's going to be coming back in the early part of the year just like most guys. I mean his production is going to be tied to his quarterback. You know, if his quarterback can't play or is injured. I mean last year we saw a lost year for him and he's had a couple lost years with quarterback play. So I don't think he's too old. He just re signed in Arizona. People forget about him because he used to be with Andre Johnson at the top of draft board.
Mike Wright
So he doesn't have that elite field stretching ability anymore. But he doesn't need it.
Andy Holloway
He's still a touchdown guy. So we just talked about him looking at 24, 25, 26 on our rankings was Kelvin Benjamin, Allen Robinson and Charles Johnson. So Benjamin, if he's healthy, we all kind of thought he'd take a step back a little bit this year. But still a guy that's going to score touchdowns because of his size.
Mike Wright
Yes.
Andy Holloway
Any thoughts on Benjamin?
Mike Wright
Oh, I didn't know you were passing it up. So Benjamin had 145 targets last year. That puts him top five and in targets. All the top five target monsters in the league had over 1500 yards except for Kelvin Benjamin who barely had a thousand. And that's because his catch percentage is so low. He drops a bunch of passes. He just, he, he is a, he is not an elite wide receiver.
Andy Holloway
Well, he's mixed with the quarterback. He's not very accurate either.
Mike Wright
Yes, that, that is.
Andy Holloway
So he might have been targeted a lot and his catch percentage is low. And then you have a Number of targets that don't even reach the mark.
Unknown
You had 11 drops. So, you know, those are catchable passes that he drops. He was one of those regression candidates for me already. And now with the bum knee, we definitely have to move him down from being. I mean, I think right now we are down on him being 24.
Andy Holloway
If you look almost a wide receiver. Three.
Unknown
Yeah. And so I think that's lower than the general fantasy populace and I would like him lower than he is now with that knee. It's one of those things where we can't react too soon, but once we know, we have to act quickly.
Andy Holloway
So what about these other two guys? I mentioned Allen Robinson at 25, Charles Johnson at 26. Those were the shrieks of a target monster, I believe they were.
Mike Wright
So Alan Robinson, we've. I've been talking about him all off season because he is a target monster. In 10 games, he had 81 targets. That puts him on pace for 130 targets. And that's including a week one where he did nothing. He did nothing in week one. So nine games, really, he had 81 targets. So prior to the injury, Allen Robinson had nine straight games of four catches, 35 yards. Well, that doesn't seem that impressive. The only other receiver with any kind of consistency level like that was Antonio Brown. I'm not saying Alan Robinson is Antonio Brown, but when you're talking about a guy you can get later in the draft who's going to get a bunch of targets, who's going to be consistent, especially in a PPR format, you got to like Alan Robinson.
Unknown
So one guy I really want you two to talk about is Charles Johnson. Because I look at our rankings, I am a believer in Mike Wallace and I believe he's going to be the wide receiver to have there. When I look at the rankings of the three of us, I see that I am the lone man there. You know, I've got Mike Wallace up at 22, whereas you guys have him 45 and 43. And Charles Johnson is very high for you guys, clearly, because I've got Mike Wallace there. He's not for me, just because I believe it's going to go the other way. So. So why Charles Johnson?
Andy Holloway
Well, really, Mike should speak to that because I don't have. I have Charles Johnson Just under 30.
Mike Wright
Okay.
Andy Holloway
So I think Mike, you're the highest.
Unknown
It's ironic. I have Mike Wallace, 22. You have Charles Johnson 22. We're just literally picking the different guy.
Mike Wright
So from week 11 on in Minnesota, we're Talking about after the bye week for Minnesota, Charles Johnson was the 26th wide receiver with 415 yards and two touchdowns. He's a guy who North Turner loves. He snuck him away from the Browns after the Browns for some reason cut him.
Andy Holloway
And when they had to bring Prior in as a wide receiver, that's why they got rid of.
Mike Wright
Yeah, they had too much talent, so they got rid of Charles Johnson. And Norv Turner loves him. He's in the position on the field that's going to get peppered with targets and deep targets. And we have seen Teddy Bridgewater this preseason. He looks sharp. But do you think very sharp?
Andy Holloway
Because here's my question for you. And you know Minnesota, that's kind of one of the teams you grew up rooting for. What I've seen in preseason, I just wonder if it's going to be like you guys both have them different guys at 22 and I think that might be appropriate because I think it's going to change week to week. Jerry's Wright's got a bunch of catches in the preseason. Mike Wallace is going to be involved in screen game. Charles Johnson, you've got Rudolph, you've got ap. Yeah, I just don't know if anybody can emerge as a. I mean you said he was 26 the second half of the year they add Mike Wallace. How does he get to 22? How does he get to be a.
Mike Wright
Because Mike Wallace to me isn't. Isn't the Mike Wallace of the past and he's coming to a new team. You have to factor that in, that he has to learn a brand new offense. And Mike Wallace last year, his entire production came from red zone touchdowns, which is not his game historically. And I think he was a touchdown mirage last year. And I'm so the guy I want in Minnesota is Charles Johnson.
Unknown
Yeah. But just to defend because I know we'll skip Mike Wallace later. I think we've got him at our consensus 38. But since we're talking about them, makes sense. Mike Wallace has had double digit touchdowns before. He's had eight touchdowns in two other seasons. So he's had 8, 8, 10, 10. I think he is a touchdown. He's a playmaker. I mean he is a legitimate NFL playmaker. Has been for multiple teams and he was just signed and given money to a Norv Turner offense and to Teddy Bridgewater.
Andy Holloway
Traded.
Mike Wright
He was traded.
Unknown
Yeah. But sought after. Got went.
Andy Holloway
They're paying him.
Unknown
Yes, that's. Yeah, they're paying him and they gave up rights to go get him. Is My point, as opposed to just drafting, you know.
Andy Holloway
No, it's a fair point. And he is a lot like guy number 27 on our list, which is Desean Jackson, where top in speed. If you ask cornerbacks in the NFL. Patrick Peterson said the fastest two guys he has to deal with is Mike Wallace was number one, DeSean Jackson was number two. I mean, so DeSean Jackson at 27, Amari Cooper 28, Keenan Allen 29. DeSean Jackson is the exact same thing. He's a playmaker, he is hard to cover, he gets open and he catches deep passes I think better than anybody in football. And so do I like desean Jackson on my fantasy team? From a philosophical perspective, no. Yes, I guess is the answer if it's in the right value. But I don't like relying on him. I like starting him as my flex in good matchups or as my wide receiver tool in bye weeks.
Mike Wright
I think the concern with desean Jackson because he had a really good year last year in Washington and I think he's being drafted as a 2 right now. And to me he's just, he's not going to be a reliable wide receiver too for you. Like Andy said, he's going to have humongous weeks but if he doesn't get that 50 yard touchdown, you're going to get three or four points from DeSean Jackson.
Andy Holloway
So this would be a good time to remind people about not just paying attention to the end of the year fantasy totals in terms of numbers because sometimes a guy can finish like Djax has finished as a wide receiver too, I believe two or three straight years somewhere in that 17, 18 position or.
Mike Wright
Well, he was.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, he was even higher.
Mike Wright
He was there last year in Washington and he was a one in the power smoothie.
Unknown
You know what I would love to see? I would love to see going back a couple years, like what percentage of championship winning teams in different places have desean Jackson on their team because he's a wide receiver too. Right. You'd think a lot and I'm guessing it wouldn't be as many as you think because he's not that type of player that you can count on that will get you consistency through a playoffs where week after week after week you're winning each game to the championship.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. And to speak to that, if you think about total numbers, a guy, some guys can get 10 a week, one guy could get 20 and 0 and 20 and 0 and you end up with the same totals at the end of the year. But that's the difference on Those type of players is. I think it's fine to have those boom guys. They win you weeks. It just needs to be mixed in, you know, your risk mitigation. Some guys like having all those guys and they just hope a few of them hit every week. But D. Jacks is in that category for me. He will make plays. I guarantee we'll catch multiple passes of over 50, 60 yards this year.
Mike Wright
Right.
Andy Holloway
Especially with RG3 back and being able to throw the deep ball. All right. Amari Cooper at 28, he's worth talking about. They. They definitely utilize what he's not worth talking about. Yeah, no, I, I think he is. Amari Cooper got used a lot in preseason game one. He got an end around. He got targeted early and often. It'll be a different offense with Latavius Murray there from week one with Crabtree on the outside with Cooper, I mean, Carr can sling it. He's Jay Cutler light. He was invited back behind the bleachers. No, seriously, he was breaking news with Cutler.
Mike Wright
Derek Carr is the little brother who gets to ride in the back seat while Jay Cutler is telling him shut up in the back.
Unknown
Darren, he's always got to be a little brother. He just can't ever get the glory. He comes into the NFL as a little brother.
Andy Holloway
But I like Amari Cooper.
Unknown
I do too. I think Amari Cooper's floor is probably around 75 catches. You know, I see him above that. And so if you've got that kind of a rookie with high potential and that level of a floor definitely worth having on a roster.
Andy Holloway
And then Keenan Allen is a good bounce back candidate. He really, he didn't underperform his rookie year in terms of catches and yards last year. He just didn't score a lot and his average yards per catch was down. And so I want to hear you.
Mike Wright
Two guys talk about Keenan Allen because you are very split on Keenan. You. Andy has him 21, Jason has him 40 right now. Unless you've adjusted.
Andy Holloway
Well, I like Philip Rivers and his production and I think it's underrated and I think that offense is underrated and he just got signed to a new four year deal. He. We like Stevie Johnson coming in there, but I think Kenan Allen is just a really talented. He's only 23, I think. Yeah, he's a young man, very young, very talented and Philip Rivers is a good quarterback. So I think just. There wasn't something last year that told me, oh no, he's not going to get targeted anymore.
Mike Wright
Yes, I agree.
Andy Holloway
So 121 targets last year tells me, okay, we've got a little bit of an adjustment to be made in the touchdown area. If he gets in the end zone a little bit, he's going to outperform his draft value.
Mike Wright
Yep.
Unknown
Yeah, that's. That's exactly right. I just don't have him with that many touchdowns. And. And I could adjust that because Antonio Gates has gone down and Eddie Royals left. I could see his touchdown. I think I've got him. I think 6 is reasonable, but 6 just isn't going to push him, I think, to a level where he's a top end wide receiver, but he's. He's definitely worth drafting. I don't hate Keenan Allen by any means, and he's probably a little too low on my board.
Mike Wright
So before we move to the ball, 2:31 through 40 or 30 through 40, we just want to take a minute to thank our sponsor, Handsome Fancy. Go to HandsomeFancy.com for all your organic beard conditioning needs. Fellas, you got a baby beard in here like Andy Jason. You got a big beard here like myself, it doesn't matter. You can get healthier hair on your face.
Unknown
My wife actually said she loved the smell and she was like, oh, what's going on? Because she didn't know I started using hands and fancy.
Mike Wright
There you go.
Unknown
That was just straight up. She loved it. Yeah.
Mike Wright
And that's another factor. Say you've been using a certain cologne for years and you want to try something else. You want to try something new, something fresh, something invigorating with a nice pleasant citrus smell. Try some Handsome Fancy beard oil right on that face. And then if you got the little longer one, try the conditioning cream. Get a little bit of hold in there.
Andy Holloway
Handsomefancy.com use promo code.
Mike Wright
Ballers get 15% off.
Andy Holloway
All right, at number 31 is Golden Tate. 32 is Brandon Lefell, and 33 is Steve Smith.
Mike Wright
Senor.
Andy Holloway
So let me put it this way. Which, individually, which of those three guys do you draft first? So we have. We have them. This is our consensus rankings. Tate, LaFell, Smith, who do you take?
Unknown
It's definitely not Smith because I think you can get him later. As far as you know, this is just where we think guys are going to finish. I don't necessarily.
Andy Holloway
No, I'm more asking, who do you take between these three in a draft?
Unknown
Wait, wait, wait.
Mike Wright
Hold on, hold on.
Unknown
That's what I'm saying, though, is that in a draft, if these three guys are on the board at the same time, I'm not Going to take this guy.
Mike Wright
Who do you want out of these three guys?
Unknown
I know what the question was. I'm just saying draft value.
Andy Holloway
You've got all three of these guys on your bench. You have to start one there.
Unknown
Okay, then I'm going to start Steve Swift. Wait, who's. Early in the year, who am I playing? Yeah, let's talk who's on waivers?
Andy Holloway
Tell me who's on waivers.
Unknown
Right? Right. Now, if I had to choose between these three guys, I would choose Steve Smith.
Andy Holloway
Me too.
Unknown
I absolutely would. But if I was in the draft, I wouldn't draft him in that order.
Andy Holloway
Golden Tate is going to do what he did last year. He's going to surprise everybody every single week because he's a much better receiver than we give him credit for. He already did it in preseason game one and he will do it all throughout the year. I mean, I've got to come around on Golden Tate eventually.
Mike Wright
He's. He is good.
Andy Holloway
Unless you'd want him to stay healthy, in which case I need to leave him alone.
Mike Wright
That is also very true. So for those who are, maybe you're a Calvin Johnson doubter. Golden Tate is a guy you want on your team. In the three games where Calvin was not playing, Golden Tate basically doubled his fantasy points and doubled his targets and added 50, 50 plus yards.
Andy Holloway
He was a monster.
Mike Wright
Yes.
Andy Holloway
Number one in the league in yards after the catch. Just better than, than we give him credit for. Better than we think.
Mike Wright
And he's perfect for a guy like Snapback Stafford because his hand, he has great hands. His catch percentage is really, really high.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Brandon lafell and Steve Smith.
Mike Wright
So to answer your question of guys.
Andy Holloway
Do you take Tate?
Mike Wright
I take Brandon lafell.
Andy Holloway
Really?
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Why. Why don't I care about Brandon lafell?
Mike Wright
Because he just, he seems so unsexy in his, his name, but his production was there. He got eight and a half targets a game. And that, that's with zeros in the first game.
Unknown
Yeah. The reason I don't feel good about the reason I would go Smith over LaFell is just because I know Smith's volume and workload. I know he's going to be the number one wide receiver to start for the care, you know, for the Carolina panthers. This is 2012 people, you know, but when it comes to Brandon Lefell, you just. With the Patriots, you just don't know. I presume that he is going to be, you know, the most used receiver there, but Aaron Dobson could just come in and all of a sudden be the man and be the most targeted guy and surprise us because it's Bill Belichick. That's just not going to happen. You know what I mean? That's not going to happen with the Ravens.
Mike Wright
Yeah, that's possible.
Andy Holloway
And Lafeld, I don't, I don't think he is a. He's a wide receiver one talent. I think it's a product of the, you know.
Mike Wright
Yeah, but I don't need wide receiver talent. I need opportunity. And Brandon Lafell is a tremendous pass blocking wide receiver. So he will be on the field.
Andy Holloway
No fantasy points for that. No, I get it. All right. Eric Decker, Jarvis Landry and Reuben Randall at 34, 35, 36.
Mike Wright
Because we're in standard.
Andy Holloway
In standard.
Mike Wright
Just a reminder if you listen to last week, but people might be wondering why is Landry so low?
Andy Holloway
Right. And that's because we're in standard. But he's still a three in standard. And all reports out of camp. I mean one, one bit of news we didn't mention was Devontae Parker's off of the PUP list.
Mike Wright
Yes.
Andy Holloway
Which is big news.
Mike Wright
Yes, it is.
Andy Holloway
And there was news coming out that they really like. Greg Jennings from all indications is not 48 years old. He's actually 31.
Mike Wright
Oh, I thought he was actually 52.
Andy Holloway
Did he turn 30? I think he had you go to his birthday party.
Mike Wright
Did you know that every time.
Unknown
Every.
Mike Wright
Time Greg Jennings has a birthday, it's actually two years.
Unknown
It's like, like 31 years.
Andy Holloway
He's 31.
Mike Wright
Jennings years.
Andy Holloway
He's only 31.
Unknown
Really?
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
So that he's 62. Oh, thank you.
Andy Holloway
How old is Donald Driver? He's 40. Yeah, he's 40. All right. He's not playing though. Jarvis Landry is going to be peppered with targets and he's going to struggle to get into the end zone. Consistently maybe.
Mike Wright
Consistently maybe. Mike Wallace is gone. Which part of why I like Jordan camp to. Sorry to jump to tight ends. I like Jordan Cameron because the, the Mike Wallace red zone touchdowns are gone. Someone has to catch those now. So I like camera, but it could easily be Jarvis Landry if you're. Let's say they're six yards out. That's Jarvis. Jarvis Landry. Sweet spot, man. Six yards. Perfect.
Andy Holloway
I agree. And he's been the go to guy in camp and he's got great hands and he will see a lot of targets. You know, he was a guy last year who I loved. I think from week four on or something like that. It was five plus catches a game. And so you kind of have A baseline with him. You're starting him and you're not going to get. I mean, I don't think he had any games last year where he went out and blew the top off of the fantasy stat list. You know, you're not going to win a week because Jarvis landry pulled an ODB. You know, 14 catches for three touchdowns. And, you know, that type of a.
Mike Wright
Number, that's the difference for me between Alan Robinson and Jarvis Landry. I think Landry, unless his usage changes, he is. His ceiling is very capped, but his. His floor is also very, very high.
Unknown
So Landry is going in the sixth right now, whereas those other two guys, Brown is going in the eighth. And Reuben Randall, who. I would say everybody from this average draft position of his would say that.
Andy Holloway
Who's Brown?
Mike Wright
John Brown.
Unknown
John Brown.
Mike Wright
He jumped ahead a little bit.
Andy Holloway
Oh, yeah, that's John Brown Randall.
Unknown
I just want people to know Ruben Randall right now is being drafted in the first 14th round.
Andy Holloway
He's free. He's free.
Unknown
He's free. And Victor Cruz is in the sixth round. What?
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I still think Cruz is better than Randall this year for sure.
Unknown
Oh, oh, oh. We got it.
Jason Moore
One water bet.
Mike Wright
That's. And that's a dose, because I'm in on that.
Unknown
Oh, that's fine. You're on the ramp.
Mike Wright
Ruben Randall, man. All right.
Unknown
Two against one. Ruben Randall. You know, we need to start making water bets that are, like, in the first two weeks blank so that we can these things out.
Mike Wright
The season is coming.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, we will.
Unknown
The weekly bets will happen.
Andy Holloway
We will. And our water wheel app is coming to.
Mike Wright
Oh, it's gonna be glorious.
Andy Holloway
So stay tuned for that. So Decker and Randall, these are guys that are not, you know, they're not in the wide receiver one, maybe even wide receiver two position for Randall, but they are talented and they have opportunity and they both have target numbers that are, you know, Randall was 127, Decker was 115. Anything you guys want to say about them before we hit? 37, 38, 39.
Mike Wright
Eric Decker is extremely underrated. Eric Decker is a very good receiver. A very good receiver. And now he gets to go back to his natural position of being a 2. Brendan Marshall is going to take the coverage. I don't think it swings to Eric Decker. If it goes to Eric Decker, then Marshall is going to feast. But I think it goes to Marshall, and Eric Decker has an even easier time. And he was still a very strong receiver with a bum hamstring all year and a bad offense.
Unknown
The difference between Eric Decker as a one and a two is that as a two? He breaks loose and he gets those super long bombs and that's coming back. You know, that's what you saw a lot with Tim Tebow back in the day.
Andy Holloway
All right, number 37 on our list is John Brown out of Arizona. And as Arizona residents and fans of the Cardinals, unbiasedly, please pay attention to John Brown. I don't know what his ADP is right now.
Unknown
802. He's going in the eighth round.
Andy Holloway
Okay, so he's going to rise.
Mike Wright
Yeah, he jumped because of the Floyd injury.
Andy Holloway
Because of the Floyd injury. But you need to take a chance on John Brown. He might be the most talented wide receiver in Arizona.
Unknown
Yes.
Andy Holloway
And he has added. He has gained weight, which was the.
Mike Wright
One knock on him last year was he was a little bit too small to get off a press coverage.
Andy Holloway
10 pounds of upper body strength. He is a dynamic playmaker and he will be targeted a lot. He might be on the field as the wide receiver, too, for the entire season. He's lightning fast.
Unknown
He's very Ty Hilton.
Andy Holloway
He is very Ty Hilton like.
Unknown
And Carson Palmer doesn't get enough credit. But if this offense really opens up, you've got a guy you get in the eighth round that could be an absolute have to start week in, week out. I mean, that's what you want.
Andy Holloway
You have to pay attention to Johnson.
Mike Wright
Let's be serious. If we're, if the Cardinals are trotting out Chris Johnson, they're opening it up, opening up the pass game.
Andy Holloway
You see, Arian said that the door is open for Chris Johnson to be the lead back.
Unknown
Well, he also said it's open for him to not make.
Andy Holloway
I know, I know. The options are endless for Chris Johnson.
Mike Wright
It's one of those spinny revolving doors.
Andy Holloway
All right, 38, 39, 40. Mike Wallace, Marcus Colston and Brashad Perryman. We talked a lot about Wallace already. So Colston and Perryman. I guess we talked about Perryman too. So Colston, let's.
Unknown
Let's spend the rest of the show on Marquis Colston. I'm actually.
Andy Holloway
I love Colston.
Unknown
You know, I'm. I'm souring on him a bit. You know me, Andy. I have always been a Marcus Colston guy. He's always been another one of those undervalued guys. He seems a little older. He seems a little injury prone. There's always some reason why you don't grab him. There's someone else that's prettier there to draft.
Andy Holloway
No, that's that's true.
Unknown
Yeah. You know, but, but at the same time I think that now when you starting to catch up with them, when.
Andy Holloway
You click the draft button on Colson or Bolden, you never feel like woohoo. But you, you generally are happy you have them on your team.
Unknown
Yeah, yeah.
Mike Wright
By week three you're happy. But so Colston last year was a very down year for him. It was the first time he'd been under 70 catches since 2008.
Andy Holloway
He's a generally slow starter too, in fantasy.
Mike Wright
And like we said New Orleans, lots of targets are gone. Kenny Stills is gone, Jimmy Graham is gone. And so someone has to catch those passes which is why we were talking about Cooks last week where he's gone up. Just sheer volume will be there. But we need to monitor this Brandon Coleman situation.
Andy Holloway
So that is 21 through 40 on our wide receiver ranks. If you want to go beyond 40 and see the rest of those ranks, you can go to the website thefantasyfootballers.com click the rankings button. We will be updating those more and more frequently now that drafts are taking place. I mean they're, they're fairly updated but we need to make some adjustments. Apparently I need to lower Tori Smith, but let's go ahead, let's go ahead and answer some questions from our listeners.
Jason Moore
Mailbag.
Mike Wright
Mailbag.
Andy Holloway
Alright, if you have a question you can go to the website, click the Submit a question button. You can also call us leave us a voicemail question 302464 TFFB it is easy to do.
Mike Wright
Easy as peasy.
Andy Holloway
All right, this question comes in from Brad in Austin, Texas. Is Gronk more valuable in smaller leagues? In an eight team league? I feel like the ability to start a stud at an extra position is more important because of the high concentration of talent. Is he right or is he wrong?
Unknown
I think he's right. That's always been my strategy is that everyone's got studs all across the board but if you've got the best at your position then you've got an edge over everyone's good roster.
Mike Wright
So I completely agree on Gronk and I will say it with this. I don't, I still don't elevate Rodgers and Luck to for two top first round pick but Gronk is for me.
Andy Holloway
You don't. Okay. I consider it in a team leagues that's for sure. All right, let's go. Voicemail question here.
E
Hey guys, thanks for taking the chance to listen to my question. Big fan of the show I'm in a 14 team PPR league and I've got. I'm thinking about giving up Latavius Murray and Danny Woodhead for Russell Wilson. My quarterback right now is Teddy Bridgewater and it is six. It's a half point people, I should say. And it's six points for passing touchdowns. So I feel like I'm getting a great deal here.
Unknown
You are not confirmation. Thank you.
Andy Holloway
If you are watching on YouTube, you've seen three people that are gonna hit that warning button.
Unknown
Yeah.
Mike Wright
Abort do.
Unknown
Thank you for calling in and. And I hope waiting for the response.
Mike Wright
Do not do that.
Unknown
Do not do that trade. There, there are, there's 20 reasons to not do that trade. I'll just give you like two or three.
Andy Holloway
And their names are all quarterbacks. Yeah, there's 20 quarterback reasons.
Unknown
First of all, Russell Wilson in a six point touchdown league isn't all that great. He gets the advantage because some of.
Andy Holloway
His touchdowns in four point leagues he's more advantageous.
Unknown
Yeah, exactly. So he's not even all that valuable. Plus you know, we, we don't value the quarterback that high anyways. I wouldn't, I would trade Russell Wilson for Latavius Murray straight up. And my favorite sleeper is Danny Woodhead. So.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, you can't give up two potential running back candidates in a 14 team league where you need them.
Mike Wright
You know what he needs to do. Do not miss tomorrow's show where we are going to talk about quarterbacks.
Andy Holloway
It's true. And he has Bridgewater, so we'll talk about Bridgewater. We like him a lot. Zach in Des Moines said, would you trade Chris Ivory for D'Angelo Williams? He says he has Bell forsett, Yelden, Ellington and Blunt as his backs.
Unknown
No, no.
Andy Holloway
Not a chance.
Mike Wright
I thought you wanted a high five.
Andy Holloway
Don't. Don't trade a guy that is a starter on an NFL offense for a guy who is. We don't even know.
Unknown
I don't even know if he's going to be the starter for the first two games that, that Levy and Bell misses like. I'm not convinced of that yet.
Andy Holloway
Dre Archers looked fine. They'll. They'll split. They'll committee that thing. All right. D train and nc. That is North California. No, North Carolina. Dear, dear Pete. Paul. Roger surprised so many people are so high on Mike Evans. He did most of his damage last year in only three games versus subpar defenses. He also will have a rookie quarterback passing him the ball. I think Evans is overrated and has huge bust potential. D train. I agree I go back to yesterday's show.
Unknown
Yeah, exactly. I still like Mike Evans. I think he's going to get his because he's one of two main targets and he's 6 foot 5 and he's a good wide receiver but he was a touchdown dependent guy. So yeah, there's, there's clear reason that he could regress and people are drafting him as if he's going to absolutely just improve.
Andy Holloway
I think that is a bad assumption to make on rookie.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I think he improves. I, but I can understand. No, I can understand the, the, the bust risk on Mike Evans but I think his talent is just tremendous. Yeah, he did the damage in three games but he's now a second year. We see receivers often elevate their game in their second year.
Andy Holloway
All right, let's go ahead and answer another voicemail.
F
Have us some questions about mid round tight ends. I know y'all are high on Kelsey and there's seems to be a steep drop after Kelsey and Olson go. I also know y'all are high on Eiford and I really like you know, waiting late on tight end but any mid round guys, anywhere from you know ER and Whitten all the way to Delaney Walker and all the guys whose ADPs are between there are any of those mid round guys worth drafting and if so who and why would really appreciate your help on this issue. Thanks a lot.
Andy Holloway
So anybody.
Mike Wright
I first I wanted to say hello.
Unknown
Yeah, very nice, Roy.
Andy Holloway
Hello.
Unknown
So we are high on iFruit because you can get them late. We're very high on Whitten. We've talked about Whitten and you can get Whitten late and so there are guys that necessary that you know. I think Greg Olson has a better year than Whitten. I think Martellus Bennett has a better year than Whitten. But that's it. That's literally the only two guys other than the other guys he named that I think have a better year. And so you're going to have to either give up a fifth or a sixth round pick where you could be getting one of those wide receivers we just talked about today that are going to help improve your team or you know, and so now you don't get those guys or you just take those guys and then get Jason Whitten or Tyler Ifert or those guys later. I don't think the mid round tight ends are of value ever.
Mike Wright
Yeah, we don't see a huge difference once, once the Kelsey floor hits for me and I'll guess I'll Put Olson up there.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I would. I would put Olsen.
Mike Wright
Those guys are very, very similar. And so you want to take one as late as possible. I. I just happen to think that Wynton and Neifert are the cream of that crop. And those are the guys that I'll target.
Andy Holloway
And we will talk tight ends on Friday's episode. We'll be going through them extensively. Guys like Jordan Cameron, we'll discuss. Because I think he's another potential value.
Mike Wright
He went up.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, he went out. Jordan Reed. Yeah. We've had all, you know, assuming he's still around.
Unknown
Michael Jordan.
Andy Holloway
Michael Jordan, yeah.
Unknown
It's just gonna be a Jordan show.
Andy Holloway
Wow.
Unknown
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Jordan's back.
Unknown
Jordan is back.
Andy Holloway
Is he wearing 45, sport? Does he wear 45 or 25? He was 55.
Unknown
He's a little older.
Andy Holloway
Oh, is that his age? Yeah.
Unknown
All right. Sorry.
Andy Holloway
