Glad to have you here. That's like a SNL throwback.
Mike Wright
Yeah, pretty much. I thought we were. And we were like going full npr.
Jason Moore
Yes, yes. Welcome in. We've got a good one. Today's a mailbag show. We're answering a ton of fantasy football questions. Your questions, your questions. The foot clans questions. Bunch of them. Off of Twitter, off of the website, the fancy footballers.com. we also have a good quick question I want to get into here in just a minute and we have a bunch of news we want to share with you about all that is happening in training camp because we finally have things to talk about that are actually taking place with real athletes, which is nice. Trent Richardson's not. Not around anymore. Goodbye. I believe his quote in the beginning of the summer was, my career ends with me putting on a gold jacket.
Mike Wright
Where did he buy the gold jackets?
Andy Holloway
All over the place.
Jason Moore
Maybe he's going to. Yeah, yeah. It's not gonna happen. All right.
Mike Wright
You can paint a jacket gold.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Mike Wright
There's all kinds of ways to have a gold jacket.
Andy Holloway
It's probably plastic. That's my guess.
Jason Moore
I don't know. It's probably not gonna happen for him. All right, quick question of the day. This one comes in from C. Crocker on Twitter. Which member of the 2016 All Suspension Team is the most likely to reward people who rostered? So we're talking Josh Gordon, Lev Bell, Tom Brady, Carlos Williams, the list soon.
Mike Wright
To be added, and probably some more pretty soon here, I think.
Andy Holloway
I think you Know, the guy that I would clearly draft first would be Le'Veon Bell. He is a difference maker at a position with very few difference makers, whereas Tom Brady is great. But, you know, you've got more opportunity in your draft, in your league, on your waivers to do something with that position that you just flat can't do with running backs.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I agree. For me, it's left Bell. I'm trying to think through the value of these guys. Where does Gordon end up in drafts? Come.
Jason Moore
Let's say he's just in the seventh round.
Mike Wright
Right, in the seventh round, missing the four games. And where, where do you think Bell ends up? Just the same.
Jason Moore
Yeah. Maybe the back of the first.
Mike Wright
Still, to me, it's Bell. I know who Le'Veon Bell is. I know what he's going to bring. He was. Before he went down last year, he was just dominating, just dominating in all assets or facets of the game for Josh Gordon. How many games has he missed?
Andy Holloway
33, 32, something like that.
Mike Wright
Since the last time he played?
Jason Moore
No, not since the last time.
Mike Wright
No, I'm saying that since the last. So he missed all of last year and then he will have missed four games. Is that so he's at 20.
Andy Holloway
And then. And then some the year before. But. So it's been a long time. In fact, if you want, if you want to debate, you know, we, we always do fantasy face offs here. We've started rolling those out on the website as well. Our articles. We're doing Fantasy Face off series where we'll take a guy and we'll make an argument for him and we'll make an argument against him. I see Andy's eyes eyeballing here.
Mike Wright
I caught that blinging in here.
Andy Holloway
But this is perfect timing for the quick question. We didn't even mean to do this, but today we have an article, Fantasy Face off, on Josh Gordon hitting the website so you could see the case for him and the case against him.
Jason Moore
I just saw that we had put up a. The case for and against Latavius Murray as well.
Andy Holloway
Yes, we did.
Jason Moore
So good.
Mike Wright
To me, it's still Bell. There is very high risk that Gordon is not who we think he should be.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. And for Andy, it's Carlos Williams.
Mike Wright
All right, moving on.
Jason Moore
No, no, I, I was trying to interpret that as who will reward people the most. Yeah, that's to me, for the cost of investment. I still think it's Bell, though. Yep. All right, connect with us on jointhefoot.com, our fantasy football community. You can grab an Extra episode every week. Exclusive content. And we have a giveaway coming up on Friday. Bunch of autographed gear. We also have some stuff from fantasy jocks, which is what Jason's wearing on his thumb. It's a. Looks like the most expensive ring you've ever seen in your life.
Andy Holloway
Super heavy.
Jason Moore
He's wearing it on his thumb for an example.
Andy Holloway
Why I want to wear this this year.
Jason Moore
All right, all right. Follow us on Twitter @TheFF Ballers. We're also on YouTube, the fantasy supporters Network and Facebook. And if you have a question for the show for days like today, you can send them into the website, the Fancy Footballers.com or dial our voicemail hotline, which is 302-464-TFFB. Let's go ahead and get into the news.
Andy Holloway
News and notes from around the league.
Jason Moore
Alrighty. Suspended running back Le'Veon Bel has had, quote, no problem making open field cuts in his recovery from last year's MCL and PCL tears.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I think we expected that. That's why he was our number one running back before the suspension, because we expected him to hit the ground running.
Jason Moore
We wanted to go open field cuts in his suspended weeks, not as good.
Andy Holloway
What's that?
Jason Moore
I said his open field cuts during those four weeks are not going to matter.
Andy Holloway
No, no, no, they're not. They're not going to produce a lot of fantasy points for you.
Jason Moore
All right. I felt like at least silver lining of the suspension was full health for Love Bell when he comes back.
Mike Wright
That's what excited me for my keeper League of Le'Veon Bell.
Jason Moore
No, what excited you for your keeper league was the fact that because he was suspended, he dropped down to like a fourth round value and you got to keep him for a. I don't make the rules say yeah, for like two days. All he just remind us he would act like we hadn't heard before and be like, you guys heard. I get Love Bell for a fourth in that league. No, just saying. Just saying.
Andy Holloway
It's great.
Jason Moore
All right, all right. We have one of these.
Andy Holloway
Mediocre signing of the week.
Jason Moore
Such a long drop, Mike.
Mike Wright
It's good, man.
Jason Moore
Hey, it's all that James Jones deserves because James Jones was signed by the Chargers. He's our mediocre wide receiver. Signing of the week. Congratulations.
Mike Wright
Oh, no. Yes. Voice of public opinion.
Andy Holloway
James Jones, 36 years old and little too old for fantasy football.
Jason Moore
He is. He's only 31 years old. Voice of public opinion.
Andy Holloway
What?
Jason Moore
Yeah, he's. But he looks 36 and plays like he's 41.
Mike Wright
Well, the good news for James Jones is whenever he has not had Aaron Rodgers throwing in the ball, he's been very excellent.
Andy Holloway
He. Yeah, I think he was cut from the Raiders.
Jason Moore
He was also cut from like the Giants. And look, it's.
Mike Wright
At least it's Philip Rivers.
Jason Moore
It's mediocre for a reason.
Mike Wright
Philip Rivers is a great quarterback and he's not going to be fantasy relevant.
Jason Moore
Hakeem Nick signed with the Saints. Right. That would have been.
Andy Holloway
That is correct.
Jason Moore
He's only 28. He feels 36 too. So there you go.
Andy Holloway
This is just a depth move. It's not. It's not going to change anything. The one thing that this makes me think, you know, because the reports still aren't officially out yet on Stevie Johnson, but it's like if. If they thought he was going to be back in, you know, four or five weeks, if it turns out with a second opinion, would they really go and grab James Jones? Maybe, but probably not.
Jason Moore
He's not. He'll be gone longer than that. He's had. You know, I feel bad for him. I really like Stevie Johnson.
Mike Wright
I think he's very good.
Jason Moore
He's unique. You know, he doesn't do everything the same way other receivers do it. But he's had a really hard time with injuries over the past few years. That's just. I mean, that might be his. He might get one more shot at coming back and being healthy and being a contributor.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. We were excited when he went to San Diego.
Jason Moore
Yeah. And he performed.
Andy Holloway
Couldn't stay on the field.
Jason Moore
All right, let's. Two other quick bits of news. All right. We have a report out of the Indianapolis Colts camp that some reporters have been underwhelmed by Andrew Luck.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Okay.
Jason Moore
Whatever. All right, thanks for.
Mike Wright
Thanks. Indianapolis.
Jason Moore
All right. The. This is the big one.
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Jason Moore
Now, Mike. Mike is going to be excited about this. Listening to the Giants running back coach Craig Johnson, it's clear that last year's four running back committee is not in the plan this year.
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Jason Moore
And Rashad Jennings is the number one running back.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Rashad Jennings. I've been trying to get people hyped for old man.
Jason Moore
You have. I give you a lot of credit.
Andy Holloway
For a long time. Early early off season. I feel like January, you were saying we need to remember Rashad Jennings. It's not going to be a four, you know, running back committee there. You saw what they did at the end of the year and I was not buying in until this day. And it's.
Mike Wright
Yes.
Andy Holloway
And I give you kudos because Rashad.
Mike Wright
Jennings over the final four games wasn't absolute monster. Will you get 16 games out of Rashad Jennings? Probably not. But you're going to be able to get him in seventh, eighth round of your drafts, which is a perfect value for a guy that you can plug in as a starter for, I would say, you know, a good portion of.
Jason Moore
The year if he has that role.
Mike Wright
I'm so excited.
Jason Moore
On an offense that has that kind of a passing or a high powered offense. Well. And Jennings, he can catch it. He catch the ball.
Andy Holloway
He reminds me a lot of a Justin Forset type of guy where in the past when he was behind people and got opportunity, he was good on it. You know, if an injury behind him or in front of him went down, he was like, oh, this guy'd be pretty good if he ever got the chance. And now he's kind of getting that chance, hopefully for the whole season. A couple years ago, Justin for set won people leagues.
Jason Moore
That's true. That's true. Yeah. Opportunity wise, performance wise. If he has the ball, he'll do some things. Remember that play last year down the sideline?
Mike Wright
Yes.
Jason Moore
Oh, yeah.
Mike Wright
Unbelievable value in Rashad.
Jason Moore
Was that against the Bills at the very end where he threw the guy right off of him onto the ground?
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Or the Jets. He ruined someone's playoffs. I remember that.
Jason Moore
All right, well, before we get into the mailbag, that's what we're going to spend the rest of our time doing. Answering questions from the listeners. Before we do that, I want to thank our sponsor of today's show, Casper. Now, listen, a couple of months ago, my wife and I were looking for a new mattress. I had been using the same mattress forever. We had this king mattress.
Andy Holloway
You've been complaining about it forever.
Jason Moore
Yeah, especially my wife. She's been saying she just cannot sleep on the old mattress. We had, we had a bunch of options. We were looking online, tried to find a bunch of different places. We ended up going with a Casper and it was actually delivered. We were out of town at the podcast movement got delivered to the house and my wife texted me and she had one thing to say and she said it's amazing legitimately. And I was. She's more finicky than me on sleep and she said it was amazing. And I got back and I tried it out and it's amazing. We've been sleeping great and we're thankful to have them as a sponsor of this show. Now look, this is the perfect. The one perfect mattress that is sold directly to Consumers shows up right at your house. You don't have to go around with a bunch of those salespeople at the store and spend a, a bunch of money, you know, because mattresses, they can cost well over 1500 bucks. But Casper mattresses get this 950 for a king and you save 50.
Mike Wright
Great deal.
Jason Moore
Yeah, you save $50 off of that. If you use the coupon code from us, they're absolutely great. And it's completely risk free. You get 100 night trial. If you don't like it, they refund your money. And it comes right, they come and pick it up. So it's no risk whatsoever. Obsessively engineered mattress at a shockingly fair price comes with a combined springy latex and supportive memory foam to create an award winning sleep surface with just the right sink and the right balance. And I can attest to that. It was one of the best inventions of 2015 according to Time magazine. And it's completely free shipping. So here's what you got to do. Get $50 toward any mattress purchase by visiting Casper.com Footballers. That's it. Use the offer code Footballers on Casper.com Footballers. You will be sleeping a lot better, I can promise you that. So let's get into the mailbag.
Andy Holloway
Mailbag.
Jason Moore
Yeah, that was Skype. That was the Skype sound you heard in the middle of that mic.
Mike Wright
Maybe they'll hear. Maybe I'll just cut it out with magic.
Jason Moore
Not now. All right. Welcome to the mailbag. It's been too long. It's been too long. So I'm excited to get into these questions. We have a number of them coming in fast and furious. Everybody's getting ready for their drafts. We had our what do we do our running back rankings show yesterday and we're going to finish that up tomorrow with 8 through 15 at least something like that.
Andy Holloway
Let's go to 24.
Mike Wright
Let's take it to the 10 hour show.
Jason Moore
All right, keeper question coming in here from Mike in Buffalo, New York.
Mike Wright
Buffalo City doesn't work.
Jason Moore
Hey, guys, where do you see better value and why? I can only keep two players at any position for two years at the round drafted initially. So I have Antonio Brown for my last year in round three and that's a gimme. But here's my problem. Do I keep Julio Jones in the second, Brandon Marshall. Brandon Marshall in the seventh or Jordy Nelson in the 16th round? Man, is the value so much better with Nelson late or do I just go with the Best 2 outreach with Brown and Julio at this point if you've got Brown guys, don't you have to take a value somewhere else?
Andy Holloway
No, you don't have to.
Mike Wright
No.
Andy Holloway
I don't think you're going to go wrong with this pick. Right. I mean, I could make an argument for any of those three guys. I really, really could. You know, you've got. If pairing Julio with Antonio Brown is something that almost no teams get to do, and if you've got potentially our, you know, rankings, the number one and number two wide receiver, plus you still have your first round pick, you're going to be fine. But if you want to keep your first six picks and go with a, you know, a top five, five to 10 in Brandon Marshall, you're going to be fine. If you want to keep all of.
Jason Moore
Your picks, what is your call here? Oh, this. Make a call on it. Because I would go Antonio Brown and I would go Brandon Marshall and that would be the easy call for me.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I think I would land on Brandon Marshall as well. You're mitigating a little bit of the risk with Julio or with Jordy Nelson's knee and whatnot. If you've got to make that call right now. But you've still got a lot of upside. You get all your early picks.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I'm going to go with Marshall.
Jason Moore
I did not mention this in the news. I should have. Tyler Croft, the backup to Tyler Ifert in Cincinnati, was injured yesterday.
Mike Wright
He was carted off. We don't know yet.
Jason Moore
It's a hyperextended knee. Oh, hyperextended knee. MRI coming in sometime today. I don't have a report on that yet, so stay tuned. He would be the guy to start in place of Ifert. These guys across from me thought that that was relevant. I never thought it was, but he's a pretty talented guy. So.
Andy Holloway
Croft. Yeah, I never thought he would be relevant this year.
Jason Moore
All right, there you go. Draft strategy question from Jake and Austin. He's a big fan of the show. He says my questions about draft strategy, specifically the quarterback position. He typically likes to wait on a quarterback load up on running back and wide receiver, knowing he can usually get a good quarterback production streaming. So we subscribe to that. However, last year I joined a new league where almost every player drafted two quarterbacks even though it is a one quarterback lead, made streaming very difficult for me as many of the top options were already on other teams benches. Would you recommend jumping on a top quarterback earlier this year, even if it meant not getting good value with that pick?
Andy Holloway
No.
Mike Wright
And once again, the, the friendly Reminder of the streaming. Your quarterback is the backup plan. Your original goal is to just get value, get good value for a quarterback.
Jason Moore
And try and get hopefully dominates.
Mike Wright
Yeah, they get a guy like a Carson Palmer last year where you took him in the double digit rounds, you plug him in, you're good to go. You don't have to stream anymore. To me maybe Philip Rivers is in that conversation. I know his ADP is a little.
Jason Moore
Bit higher this year, Eli Manning, Matthew.
Mike Wright
Shepard, but there's these guys that you can get late that could be plug and play. So I'm not going to jump in early. And even if teams have 24 quarterbacks, I know it can make things a little bit more difficult. But once again, 44, 0, 40 quarterbacks posted a top 12 week. Yeah, a quarterback one week. So it can be done, can be a little more difficult.
Jason Moore
Perfect answer.
Andy Holloway
I think when it comes to drafting your first quarterback, you do it by a tiers based system. You look and basically decide, I want to make sure I get one of these guys. And when I look at the list that's like 20 or 22 guys a lot. When I get to 24 I start going, okay, yeah, but you know, if I'm getting to 18 and 18 are off the board and there's four guys left I like, then I'm going to take that guy.
Jason Moore
And here's the thing, if you're waiting till the 8th, 9th, 10th round to draft a quarterback, that's fine. If the other teams in your league have spent two of their top seven.
Andy Holloway
Picks on quarterbacks, your team's going to be hot.
Jason Moore
That's ridiculous. That's ridiculous. You can scoop up guys and then, I don't know, trade for those second quarterbacks for nothing.
Mike Wright
And it's not just, it's not just the round you're drafting the quarterback, it's just the value at what you are spending where if, like they said, if the rest of the teams in the league are investing these picks, you're scooping up great talent so your value will be there for your quarterback. I'm taking a look at my quarterback rankings because I want to see just how far down would go. And right now I have Tyrod Taylor as my 19th quarterback. And that's not because I dislike Tyrod Taylor. It's because so many quarterbacks I think are very solid options. So that's 19 guys where I'm perfectly fine drafting just one of those guys and rolling with them to start the year as my only quarterback.
Jason Moore
All right, Daniel, in Texas, do you guys Think it is a good strategy to pair a quarterback and wide receiver together. For example, Philip Rivers and Kenan Allen, andy Dalton and A.J. green. Tony Romo and Des Bryant. Is pairing better than getting something like Tony Romo and A.J. green. The double stuff.
Andy Holloway
I usually enjoy a pair.
Mike Wright
He enjoys a double stuff.
Andy Holloway
I enjoy a pair. But I don't ever, ever, ever reach for a pair. I don't.
Jason Moore
Let's see how far at the grocery store.
Mike Wright
Yeah, that's. I'm imagining you, you're like talking about the fruit.
Jason Moore
I imagine you don't reach for many pears.
Andy Holloway
No, I don't like the fruits and vegetables all that much.
Mike Wright
You avoid the produce at all costs.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, but when I would you have.
Jason Moore
Like a pear flavored Oreo?
Andy Holloway
Probably not. I don't need them. There's already delicious Oreos.
Jason Moore
Sounds awful. Fruit flavored.
Andy Holloway
A pear.
Jason Moore
Those will come out. Not the pear flavor. Something ridiculous.
Andy Holloway
I think a double cinnamon.
Jason Moore
Tell me there's no apple cinnamon Oreos out there.
Andy Holloway
Probably you're getting a pair of Oreos together when you get a double stuff.
Jason Moore
Yeah, yeah. But, you know, that's the kind of pair you want.
Andy Holloway
The reality is this, there's upside to the strategy and downside to the strategy because when you pair them together, what it means is that you can beat anyone any week. If that guy throws two touchdowns to your wide receiver, you're going to just be a monster. You know that you're going up against another high power team. You could put up huge points. But it also means if he doesn't, you know, you can have a big flop at two positions. It's really just a matter of do you want to go high upside, a little bit more risk or not. And so, you know, I don't think that you're going to win one way and not the other. It's just a matter of personal preference.
Jason Moore
When we were on the show last week when Mike was out of town, Jason and I talked at length about, you know, what are some of the things you wish you knew the first time you started playing fantasy football. And Jason mentioned like, he really does like drafting guys from winning teams. I think that this strategy applies the absolute most to winning teams for sure. You can get boxed into a lot of defeats in a row. If you're taking like, I don't know, Matt Ryan, Julio Jones. Last year didn't really work out. Right. That was a team that struggled from the midpoint of the season on because they just weren't that good of a team. If you ended up with I don't know, Russell Wilson and Tyler Lockett or Russell Wilson and Doug Baldwin. I mean, Edelman, Brady, you won life. Yeah, it's just one of those things where if the team is put in a position where it's so up and down, you can lose weeks that way. I had one of my first teams I ever had was, foolishly, the Saints. The year they started off 07, and I had Drew Brees, Marcus Colston, Reggie Bush and one other, and they started 0 and 7. And so did I. So did I.
Mike Wright
And it's to me, it's. I won't reach for it if it ends. If the cards fall that way, that's fine. But otherwise, you know, diversify the. The probability that your quarterback is going to throw two touchdowns or your wide receiver is going to catch two touchdowns from that quarterback, not so high. But the likelihood that Romo is going to throw, you know, equal touchdowns, it's just. It's just about spreading it. Well, spread the wealth around and gets fantasy points everywhere.
Jason Moore
All right, this one comes in from. Let's see here, Eben. No, I have a different one here. We have a trade question.
Mike Wright
Oh, sorry, Eben.
Jason Moore
I'm in a dynasty league. I just traded DeAndre Hopkins for Keenan Allen and Randall Cobb.
Mike Wright
Did I win this come in from schmucks?
Jason Moore
It came in from schmucks.
Mike Wright
Schmucks. Schmarmian.
Jason Moore
Yeah. So I just traded Randall Cobb and KENAN Allen received DeAndre Hopkins, who won that deal in a dynasty league.
Andy Holloway
I think in this specific dynasty league, knowing when I first saw it, I thought, well, wow, you just stole DeAndre Hopkins. At first, the more that I thought about it, there's a deeper roster that plays. These are two young guys, and I think I would prefer the depth in this specific league. I would say it's a fair trade for sure. The real question comes down to is Randall Cobb, what we saw last year.
Jason Moore
Exactly what I was going to say.
Andy Holloway
Or is Randall Cobb, you know, he.
Jason Moore
Makes or breaks that trade.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. If Randall Cobb bounces back in any. In any fashion towards two years ago, then the clear winner should be the Cobb. Keenan Allen. Yep.
Jason Moore
It's interesting. I mean, yeah, if you stopped in Julio Jones name, do you change your opinion?
Andy Holloway
Not much. Because, I mean, you lose a couple of years with Julio as well. I usually.
Jason Moore
I mean, we always advocate.
Andy Holloway
We always advocate for the best player in a deal. You know, if you're doing a two for one, usually the one wins the deal. And in this case, that's DeAndre Hopkins. He is the best of the three options.
Jason Moore
Yep.
Andy Holloway
But the problem is the difference between Hopkins and Keenan Allen.
Mike Wright
That was my point.
Andy Holloway
Might not be all that much.
Mike Wright
Thank you. Thank you for bringing it up for me. I don't think that Hopkins is that he's not a whole tier above Keenan Allen.
Jason Moore
I do. I think that. So I like the Hopkins side of the deal because of that. But that it's all about interpreting. I think it is fair. I think that's the big point there. All right, Eben in Connecticut. Hey, guys. And all my mocks, I've ended up with David Johnson, AJ Green and Al Shawn Jeffrey.
Andy Holloway
Sorry.
Jason Moore
As you may know, these three guys all have the same bye week. Should I change my draft strategy because of this dilemma?
Mike Wright
Nah, no. The bi weeks, those kinds of things happen. But I don't generally worry about it. In the suggestion that Evan had talked about with maybe go Mike Evans instead of Alshon. And that's all right there. I have those guys very close. So if you are wanting to avoid that bi week dilemma, I'm okay. Going into audible there and taking evidence.
Andy Holloway
And we've said this a lot, it bears repeating, especially in the next two weeks as there's new listeners coming on and you want to win and you're dedicated right now because your draft season is here. But you don't win fantasy football championships at the draft. That's not. You win them through the course of the year, making the right starts and sits, making the right waiver wire moves, making the right trades. So for these three specifically, I believe from memory all three of them have a week nine buy. And if you're talking about, look, I'm nine weeks into the season. I'm just going to take the best talent at the draft because my team usually looks different by week nine, considerably so from moves that you've made. So I would take the best talent available.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Never, never move down in talents or opportunity because of a bye week with Mike Evans. That's kind of. I see it as a lateral movement, so it's okay. But don't let a bye week make you draft a lesser player.
Jason Moore
All right, Patrick in Linton, Indiana. Hey, guys. You guys are awesome. I have been gaining a ton of knowledge listening to your podcast.
Mike Wright
You are welcome.
Jason Moore
Thanks, Patrick. Here is my question slash statement. Name the top three running back by committee that you that having both players will help, not hurt you. Okay. That was a funny way of saying Name the top three RBBCs where you can play both. Sure.
Andy Holloway
Hill and Geo. For sure.
Mike Wright
Martin and Sims are In the top for me.
Jason Moore
Okay.
Mike Wright
And I would have to see Gordon.
Andy Holloway
And Woodhead comes to mind a little bit for me. I wouldn't love that, though. I mean, I certainly wouldn't like that. I would actually like.
Jason Moore
And Lewis.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Blunt and Lewis to me is a decent combination. Is there anybody in the. In the tier of the. Jeremy Hill, Gio Bernard, Chris Ivory, T.J. elden. Yeah, maybe I'm not going to trust the Jaguars running game enough. Their offensive line and things like that.
Jason Moore
Oh, what about DeAndre Washington and Latavi's?
Mike Wright
I was going to say, but we don't know about Washington.
Jason Moore
I know.
Mike Wright
What about Forte Powell with reports that they will be splitting carries?
Jason Moore
Yeah, I think Forte is a strong one.
Andy Holloway
That's definitely up.
Jason Moore
At least you have a team in that place committed. I would say I would have happily, happily said LaShawn McCoy and Carlos Williams. Yeah, I just can't because of Carlos Williams. All right, draft question from dawn in Canada. I have the first overall pick. I plan on taking Antonio Brown.
Mike Wright
Okay.
Andy Holloway
Pretty good pick. Our wall agrees with you.
Jason Moore
Yes. He's referring to the.
Andy Holloway
I agree.
Jason Moore
Is that the wall back there? The Bumblebee Antonio Brown jersey sitting on the wall? At the turn of round two, three. What do you think about taking Doug Martin and Mike Evans? Do you have issues taking both guys double teams?
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I do.
Jason Moore
Ooh, Jason, because of your mitigation.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, with my risk mitigation and also with the draft capital that it costs you there. If I'm going to take two. Here's the thing. Up at the top of the draft, right. Like you were just saying Mike Evans, you see Alshon Jeffrey, very similar. You can make arguments for probably five or six wide receivers that all get drafted at the same spot that are so close together. If you look at the ultimate draft kit versus just the. The just the ordered rankings and look at the point differential between guys, they're just so close. I would rather split up. I don't want the passing and running game from a team like that. And later in the draft, it's fine for me because you're. You're mining for great values here. It's like there's another guy who is just as good right next to him. More than likely, he's a guy who's better. Right. Well, because you don't like Doug Martin. Is that what you're saying?
Mike Wright
No, because LaShawn McCoy is going at the back of the second.
Andy Holloway
Sure. Exactly. Why. Why take the passing and running from one game where you know they're not Both.
Jason Moore
They can't score on the same drive.
Andy Holloway
Right.
Mike Wright
Like that's what we're talking about with Diversify.
Jason Moore
That's what's frustrating. They can't both score and that's not a team that all the upside might be there. Maybe they're going to be good. What? Maybe not.
Mike Wright
What if they're both holding the ball and they run in together?
Jason Moore
You're looking for that. You want the, you want the halfback pass. That's what you want.
Mike Wright
No, no.
Jason Moore
You want the pitch to Doug Martin and then you want him to throw it to.
Mike Wright
No, I literally want them holding the.
Jason Moore
Ball simultaneously running together.
Andy Holloway
Now, now the one question that will actually.
Jason Moore
I wonder who that would go to.
Andy Holloway
Let me.
Mike Wright
Whoever touched the ball first probably. I don't know.
Andy Holloway
All right, here, here's, here's a question though. Interesting, a lateral question to this. That actually is, I think the only, the only single in the entire league opportunity that will and can happen at your draft. You take Antonio Brown first and what if Lev Bell is sitting there at the end of the second?
Mike Wright
100%.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I would do it. That's fine because then you're getting value. You get another pick right next to him. And that's the only situation I would say.
Mike Wright
And the Steelers have already showed us that Brown could be the top while Lev Bell is also at the top.
Jason Moore
Yep. Mike and Mercado keep two of three. Which two should I pick to join David Johnson on my road to repeat? Well, first of all, congrats on your title.
Mike Wright
Yes.
Jason Moore
Second of all, it's Rob Gronkowski, Mike Evans or Devonta freeman in a 10 team PPR league. He needs two of those three to join David Johnson. 10 team PPR. I am taking.
Andy Holloway
I'm going Gronk and Florida.
Jason Moore
Yeah, that's what I'm doing.
Andy Holloway
Hard to leave Evans. I wanted to go with Evans because he already has David Johnson. But in a ppr, Devonta Freeman's floor and ceiling is just that much higher. Mike Evans is a little bit lower in a ppr, you know, than in a standard. And then Gronk in a 10 team league is just such a difference maker.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I'm all aboard it. Gronk, Freeman. Correct answer.
Andy Holloway
Mike, do you want to give the correct answer or the incorrect answer?
Jason Moore
Just nod and let us move on.
Mike Wright
Oh man, he's struggling. I'm struggling because I think I would take Evans and Freeman. I think I would pass on Gronk.
Jason Moore
That's fine. So Freeman's in there though, for all three of us.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Well, we're going to talk about Freeman in tomorrow's show and just I was digging through the numbers of.
Jason Moore
Do we need to do a face off or are you about. Are you climbing on him?
Mike Wright
That's what I was going to say is he was so bad. He was so bad. Except for fantasy points scored, he was still very good.
Jason Moore
Right. Even in the games he was struggling.
Mike Wright
Even in the games where he was a terrible football player.
Andy Holloway
So I'm still curious about tomorrow. Let me rising on him.
Jason Moore
I'm going to tell you something right now. If you listen to this thing I'm going to say right now, this is important. The perception that fantasy players have of Devonta Freeman and other players does not translate to coaching staff. There is. There are certain players that mean a whole lot more to their coaching staffs and their teams than we think they do. Devontae Freeman is one of those guys. Devonte Freeman has the coaching staff's confidence and Devonte Freeman has a bigger impact on that team. Look at what Ellington used to do. He'd be hit and miss in fantasy, but he meant a lot to that team until the injuries took over. There are certain guys. True. But I'm just saying Devonta Freeman, Andre.
Mike Wright
Ellington, when he was playing was. Was a beast when he was running, he was averaging a very hard yards per carry, not three yards per carry for the final five games.
Jason Moore
I can, I am telling you right now, Atlanta's coaching staff, they looked at those games that you're looking at as with a negative light and they said he played great.
Andy Holloway
Right?
Jason Moore
That's 100%.
Mike Wright
And those people need to be removed.
Jason Moore
No. No, they do not.
Andy Holloway
It's not all.
Jason Moore
Just because it's not all NFL, they don't go yards per carry. Oh, how many do you have? Oh, he sucked today. No, they said. Did he pick up his blocking assignments? Was he going out on passing routes the right way? You know, if they're blitzing or they have eight in the box? If he runs, certainly.
Andy Holloway
Did he pick up the first down on Sunday?
Mike Wright
Those are all passing plays you're talking about.
Jason Moore
No, I'm not.
Andy Holloway
Did he pick first down on third and one if there was only one?
Jason Moore
If there was only one to be gained and he gained 2.8. That's what they're looking at. They're not looking at. Did he gain 5.6?
Mike Wright
The only point with me saying that was I, I think they like Coleman a lot. So would they just start working Coleman in more?
Jason Moore
I don't know why you think they like Coleman A lot.
Mike Wright
Well, they drafted him in the second.
Jason Moore
Or third round, if you do that. Why. Why wasn't Coleman.
Andy Holloway
You know, Coleman was the starter after training camp last year. You're walking yourself into a bad.
Jason Moore
No, I'm not. No, I'm not. If he. Okay, so Coleman was the starter at the beginning of the year, then he.
Andy Holloway
Got injured, broke a rib, I believe.
Jason Moore
And Devonta Freeman was amazing. They're back for the whole year and they didn't move Coleman back in and out. Coleman's gonna return kicks.
Mike Wright
Well, then he's. Then he fell down in the shower or something.
Jason Moore
Yeah, whatever. They love Devonta Freeman.
Andy Holloway
I agree.
Jason Moore
And they. By the way, they drafted Devonta Freeman, too. Just.
Andy Holloway
I can't.
Jason Moore
I know that the coach didn't, but the team did and the GM did.
Andy Holloway
I can't wait to talk Devonta Freeman tomorrow.
Jason Moore
That's ridiculous. All right, draft question from Wade in London getting ready for you. What?
Mike Wright
Where? Bonjour.
Jason Moore
Yeah, wait.
Mike Wright
London, Ontario, Canada. Is that a.
Jason Moore
Maybe he's in multiple places at once?
Mike Wright
Are you trying to trick us here, Wade, or you just.
Jason Moore
Wade in London, Ontario, Canada.
Andy Holloway
Oh, bonjour.
Jason Moore
I. Maybe it was either pasted wrong or he's in two places at once, which is incredible. Amazing. Nightcrawler getting ready for year two of our two keeper league. Keepers, keepers, keepers. Keep draft stock from last draft. Do we snake or go linear? Do we go in reverse order of the standings? Could you please let me know some of your thoughts on this?
Andy Holloway
Sure.
Mike Wright
You guys, can you go first?
Jason Moore
I like snake or linear. What do you think?
Andy Holloway
I prefer linear. I like doing it like the NFL does it. If you're in a keeper league where you get to retain some of the top talent. And you know. You know that the best teams, if you look year to year, usually there's a handful of teams that are always in the playoffs in your league, and I think putting those guys near the end of, you know, every round is good for parity in the league. And I think that the more competitive a league is, the more parity is within your league. The more camaraderie exists, the more people are active through the season, the more trades have, just the more fun you have. So I like, on a keeper league, going linear.
Jason Moore
I agree with you on that. I like it in linear. What about the reverse order of standings?
Andy Holloway
That's how I would usually take it. Other than maybe, you know, that first round doing something to avoid tanking, like.
Jason Moore
Having a lottery or something.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Jason Moore
All right, there you go. Opinion on a trade. Zachary In Houston has a question. Two brothers in my league made a trade last night.
Andy Holloway
Oh, collusion alert.
Jason Moore
That's always a scary thing. And a few owners are up in arms about them. He considers it fair. He was wondering if he could get our thoughts on it for a completely unbiased perspective. To prevent the league to present to the league before people try to veto it.
Mike Wright
We need, like, a Judge Judy or some kind of a.
Jason Moore
Like a gavel. Sound.
Andy Holloway
Law and order.
Jason Moore
Yeah, like a final. A final response. Brother 1. I like how it's Brother 1 and Brother 2. Julio Jones, Doug Martin, Richard Rogers, Charles Sims.
Mike Wright
Okay.
Jason Moore
For Mike Evans, Joe Bernard, devonte Parker, and CJ Prosise.
Andy Holloway
That is not fair.
Jason Moore
That's.
Mike Wright
You think that's not fair?
Andy Holloway
Yeah. The better. The best running back is Doug Martin. The best wide receiver is Julio Jones, and they're on the same side of the trade.
Jason Moore
Yeah. And Richard Rogers versus devonte Parker isn't really fair either. That trade is that.
Mike Wright
That pushes Rogers versus Parker is not fair.
Jason Moore
No, no, not even close.
Mike Wright
Well, but you value Richard Rodgers more than devonte Parker.
Jason Moore
No, I. Oh, I see what you mean. Yeah. Parker's on the other side of the.
Andy Holloway
I don't think he's enough to make up like. Yes, that is better. Right? Devonte Parker is better than Richard Rogers. Is that enough to make up?
Jason Moore
It's a dynasty league, Evans. It's a dynasty league. Yeah.
Mike Wright
This is dynasty. You're going.
Jason Moore
I'm fine with it.
Mike Wright
This is perfectly fine.
Jason Moore
I'm fine with it.
Andy Holloway
I would say this.
Jason Moore
I still think the Julio guy, the guy who got Julio won the deal, but I'm fine with the trade.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. I would never veto a trade like this because it's clear that neither one is trying to do something wrong. I just think someone smoked someone and they happen to be brothers.
Jason Moore
No, not necessarily. Because at all. If you really believe pro slice has a future and Parker has a future, those are the cogs of that trade for you. And you're barely trading down necessarily at the Evans Jones. I mean, I don't know.
Andy Holloway
That's fine.
Jason Moore
Evans is a lot younger than Joe. I think the trade's fine.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Jason Moore
I mean, so present that to your brother.
Mike Wright
Brother, too. Went with the players who are very good, but they also have youth on their side.
Jason Moore
Yep.
Mike Wright
So this trade is completely fine.
Andy Holloway
Sure. But I'm just saying, when they come head to head against each other, brother one's gonna win the game.
Jason Moore
Maybe this year. All right. Dave in Temecula, California. Hey, guys. Capital letters. In fact, his Entire thing is in cash.
Andy Holloway
Hey guys. I have to say that I'm very excited for this upcoming season. One of the best parts of fantasy football is trash talking to your buddies. What if any, is your best trash talking memory pre draft, during the draft or in season? P.S. marcus, you suck and you'll never beat me.
Jason Moore
Jason's face is so red right now, it's not even funny. I have to read the question how it was in.
Mike Wright
You are beat red.
Jason Moore
How it was in. That's half of how red he was. You should see the go to YouTube and watch the video.
Andy Holloway
I do apologize to all the podcast listeners who just that I screamed at. I apologize.
Mike Wright
Now you were fully committed to that joke.
Jason Moore
That's how you read a all caps and I bet you wish to please no more.
Andy Holloway
All caps submissions.
Jason Moore
We're getting. We're getting all. All cap submissions.
Mike Wright
You are sweating and read.
Jason Moore
You even read his like throw in Marcus, you suck line that he threw into his league mate. All right. Best trash talking memory pre draft, during draft or in season? I don't. Look, I'm sure I have a bad memory, so they're probably better ones than this. But I do remember when I traded. I don't even remember the pieces, but remember when I walked into your office, Jason, the job at best related situation. I believe I traded you Java Best for a one or something like that. And job at best went down the week after something to that regard. I just remember the feeling I had in my body when I walked into your office, you know, chest out.
Andy Holloway
I don't remember that so much as the Joy Bell drop.
Jason Moore
Okay, that was pretty good.
Mike Wright
We got pre draft. We're pre draft.
Jason Moore
No, he said. He said pre draft during draft or in season?
Andy Holloway
Yeah. You didn't hear it? I read it loud.
Mike Wright
I didn't read the whole question.
Jason Moore
Yeah. Okay, so let's tell the Joy Bell one because the Joy Bell one was Jason and I. Jason had Joy Bell all year. Jason drops Joy Bell right before the playoffs.
Mike Wright
If you ever wanted to know why Andy has somehow has like a personal affinity and connection to Joy Bell who is terrible.
Andy Holloway
It was because of this. And what's crazy is I had now terrible. What's crazy is I had him because of his playoff schedule. His playoff schedule was great, but I had to make a move a couple weeks beforehand. I didn't think anyone would pick up Joy Bell. It was a week. I don't remember if he was down or injured or what was going on, but I didn't think someone would pick him up. So I tried to make a sneaky drop to grab another guy as a defensive move to play. So I get into the second round of the playoffs, and Andy had picked up Joyk Bell, who I had just dropped, and he played him and smoked me with Joy Bell, who went off my own guy, who I dropped and gave to you.
Jason Moore
That was. That's like one of those terrible, terrible fantasy moments if you're on that end of it where you're like, I could have prevented this from happening to myself.
Andy Holloway
Now that's not really trash talk, though. That's just a good experience, I would say.
Jason Moore
Oh, I spent the next six to eight weeks trash talking about that.
Andy Holloway
The best trash talk, though, that happens in our league happens via pictures. It's just when something happens, you know, the meme type pictures of just putting up a picture of whoever it is.
Jason Moore
Someone smiling or something.
Andy Holloway
I love Andy. Andy loves to take websites and, like, redo their titles and redo their content and take a screenshot of a fake website. That just really makes fun of you.
Jason Moore
Yeah. And Jason likes to post articles or pictures that just disparage my players. So nobody wants to trade with them.
Andy Holloway
Right, Right.
Jason Moore
Right. After I put them on the block, he'll post something negative about them.
Andy Holloway
And Mike's just always nonsense.
Mike Wright
Yeah. I keep it going. My favorite thing to do, though, is during we do a live draft, and every year, I somehow get a theme song. There was a particular year it was turned down for what by Little John. And so I like. I will play the music as I'm walking up my pick to be announced, and then I'll, like, just stand there and dance because I've made the greatest draft pick in the history of the draft every single time I'm up. And so I like to do that every year. Find a new song and then just dance.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, you're the worst picks.
Jason Moore
Yeah, you. You kind of are.
Mike Wright
Thank you.
Andy Holloway
And if you can just imagine that over, over and over, whenever I would.
Mike Wright
Play the entire build.
Andy Holloway
Oh, it's the worst Mike.
Jason Moore
Mike is the gloat king. When things go right for Mike, watch out.
Mike Wright
You don't want to be around.
Jason Moore
He's the worst title. I mean, Jason's been pretty bad as. As a champion this past year. Mike is the worst. All right. Golly. In Houston, Texas. Hey, footballers. What are your thoughts about Frank, Gormat Forte and Latavius Murray? Who would you pick? And does age and experience trump youth?
Andy Holloway
It depends on the situation. I don't think there's a hard and fast rule of Age experience over youth or vice versa. As far as these three guys, I like Latavius Murray the best. I still think that he is a guy that can really show up this year behind that offensive line for a team that wants to run the ball. He was a top 12 running back last year and I think there's a good handcuff situation there where you can, you can get for a very fair price DeAndre Washington, who I still don't expect there to be that kind of, you know, 50, 50 timeshare. I think it's going to be Latavius or he's going to get yanked and it's going to be Washington. So that's the situation I would like the most for where they're going in the draft. What say you guys?
Mike Wright
Yeah, I would go. Murray and I have Forte in front of Gore. When you're combining just overall draft value, I would prefer Frank Gore over Forte.
Jason Moore
All right, that is it for the mailbag segment of the show. I want to remind everybody about our ultimate Draft kit@ultimate draft kit.com Jason just got our defensive rankings up there on the site. We're going to have. We have a top 200 and half point up there this week. This week, these top 200 standard and to top 200 PPR is going to be up there. Andy Holloway
You don't have to wait for us to send you.
Jason Moore
It's not the old magazine that used to get back, you know where the. They had to go to press by May and then the players are just completely irrelevant.
Mike Wright
What month?
Jason Moore
Oh, come on, what month?
Mike Wright
Hold on one month.
Jason Moore
Did they put the June.
Mike Wright
It's gonna be my.
Jason Moore
Yeah, man. You hear that? You perk up quickly.
Andy Holloway
You've trained me, Mike. Because when he said it, I already knew it was coming.
Jason Moore
Oh my goodness. So check it out. Ultimate Draft Kit.com if you have questions about it, send them. Send them over on twitter @the ffballers. Send us questions on the website. Episode: Fantasy Football Podcast 2016 - Fantasy Draft Questions, Fantasy News & Updates
Release Date: August 3, 2016
Hosts: Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, Mike "The Fantasy Hitman" Wright
The episode kicks off with a brief mention of Football Hall's subscription box, offering football-themed gear to fans. Hosts Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike Wright warmly welcome both new and returning listeners, setting the stage for a mailbag-centric episode filled with draft questions, fantasy news, and updates.
a. Le'Veon Bell’s Suspension and Recovery
Le'Veon Bell remains a focal point as his suspension continues to impact fantasy teams. Mike Wright highlights Bell's recovery progress:
"Suspended running back Le'Veon Bell has had, quote, no problem making open field cuts in his recovery from last year's MCL and PCL tears." [06:01]
Andy Holloway adds context about Bell's expected performance:
"We expected him to hit the ground running, which is why he was our number one running back before the suspension." [06:16]
b. James Jones Signs with the Chargers
The trio discusses the Chargers' acquisition of James Jones, labeling it a "mediocre signing of the week" due to Jones's age and performance concerns:
"James Jones, 36 years old and little too old for fantasy football." [07:25]
c. Andrew Luck’s Performance with the Colts
Reports indicate some underwhelming performances from quarterback Andrew Luck in the Indianapolis Colts' training camp. The hosts express mixed feelings, with Mike Wright acknowledging:
"These guys across from me thought that was relevant. I never thought it was, but he's a pretty talented guy." [09:06]
d. Giants’ Running Back Strategy
Giants' running back coach Craig Johnson reveals a shift from a four-back committee to Rashad Jennings as the lead back:
"Rashad Jennings is the number one running back." [09:29]
Andy Holloway praises this move, emphasizing Jennings's potential and consistency:
"Rashad Jennings reminds me a lot of a Justin Forsett type of guy... he can be a good contributor for the whole season." [10:00]
The heart of the episode revolves around answering listener questions. Below are the key inquiries addressed:
a. Keeper Strategy: Balancing Stars vs. Value
Question from Mike in Buffalo:
"Where do you see better value and why? I can only keep two players at any position for two years at the round drafted initially. So I have Antonio Brown for my last year in round three and that's a gimme. But here's my problem. Do I keep Julio Jones in the second, Brandon Marshall in the seventh or Jordy Nelson in the 16th round?" [14:03]
Responses:
Andy Holloway advocates for Brandon Marshall to mitigate risk:
"If you want to keep your first six picks and go with a top five... you're going to be fine." [15:16]
Jason Moore agrees, emphasizing the balance between high-value picks and risk management:
"I would go Antonio Brown and I would go Brandon Marshall and that would be the easy call for me." [15:25]
Mike Wright also supports Brandon Marshall, valuing stability:
"Yeah, I'm going with Marshall." [15:40]
b. Quarterback Draft Strategy
Question from Jake and Austin:
"Do you recommend jumping on a top quarterback earlier this year, even if it meant not getting good value with that pick?" [16:45]
Responses:
Andy Holloway advises against early QB picks, focusing on value over position:
"No." [16:46]
Mike Wright emphasizes the effectiveness of streaming QBs and prioritizing value:
"Don't have to jump in early. I know it can be done, can be a little more difficult." [17:00-17:14]
Jason Moore concurs, highlighting late-round QB options like Tyrod Taylor and Philip Rivers:
"So I'm not going to jump in early." [17:43]
c. Pairing Quarterbacks with Wide Receivers
Question from Daniel in Texas:
"Do you think it is a good strategy to pair a quarterback and wide receiver together?" [19:02]
Responses:
Andy Holloway explains the high-risk, high-reward nature of this strategy:
"There's upside to the strategy and downside... personal preference." [20:06]
Mike Wright and Jason Moore discuss the benefits and potential pitfalls, ultimately suggesting diversification over pairing:
"Spread the wealth around and get fantasy points everywhere." [22:13]
d. Evaluating Dynasty Trade
Question from Eben in Connecticut:
"I just traded DeAndre Hopkins for Keenan Allen and Randall Cobb. Did I win this deal in a dynasty league?" [22:22]
Responses:
Andy Holloway assesses the trade as fair, noting DeAndre Hopkins's value:
"It's a fair trade for sure. The real question comes down to is Randall Cobb making or breaking that trade." [22:47]
Mike Wright and Jason Moore agree, considering the depth and talent involved:
"I think it is fair. That's the big point there." [23:54]
e. Managing Bye Week Overlaps
Question from Eben:
"I have David Johnson, AJ Green, and Alshon Jeffery all with the same bye week. Should I change my draft strategy because of this?" [24:17]
Responses:
Andy Holloway emphasizes not letting bye weeks dictate player quality:
"Don't let a bye week make you draft a lesser player." [24:26]
Mike Wright and Jason Moore concur, advising to prioritize talent and value:
"Never, never move down in talents or opportunity because of a bye week." [25:32]
f. Trade Evaluation Between League Brothers
Question from Zachary in Houston:
"Two brothers in my league made a trade: Julio Jones, Doug Martin, Richard Rodgers, Charles Sims for Mike Evans, Joe Bernard, Devonta Parker, and CJ Prosise. Is this fair?" [35:34]
Responses:
Andy Holloway voices concern but ultimately finds the trade acceptable within a dynasty context:
"I would never veto a trade like this because it's clear that neither one is trying to do something wrong." [36:14]
Mike Wright and Jason Moore agree, noting the youth and potential in the acquired players:
"That's completely fine." [37:30]
The hosts share their favorite trash-talking moments, injecting humor and camaraderie into the discussion:
Jason Moore recalls a memorable trade that didn't pan out:
"Jason had Joy Bell all year. Jason drops Joy Bell right before the playoffs." [39:40]
Mike Wright describes his unique draft-time antics with theme songs and dancing:
"I will play the music as I'm walking up my pick to be announced, and then I'll just stand there and dance." [41:17]
Ultimate Draft Kit Promotion:
The hosts promote their Ultimate Draft Kit, highlighting features like:
Andy remarks on its value:
"We've had so many people tell us that it's an incredible value for them, better than anything that they've used to draft before." [43:53]
Casper Mattress Advertisement:
A brief segment endorses Casper mattresses, offering listeners a discount:
"Get $50 toward any mattress purchase by visiting Casper.com/FantasyFootballers." [12:26]
