Welcome to the podcast. Welcome to the show. I am so excited to be here in one piece.
Jason Moore
We're alive, America.
Mike Wright
Andy Holloway, Mike Wright, Jason Moore.
Jason Moore
Jason, welcome back to the show.
Andy Holloway
I'm happy to be back.
Mike Wright
Double flush is back in the, in the house.
Andy Holloway
Best nickname ever.
Mike Wright
Welcome back. Really impressed with Jason and his fortitude. Despite missing the show yesterday and the day before and being kind of in a half dead state for five days. He did show up at the Arizona Sports complex yesterday for the Foot Clan combine event.
Andy Holloway
Oh, yeah. Some people are saying, oh, he's not sick, he's just, he's training. He's training. When you watch the combine, you will see a man who does not train anything.
Mike Wright
Yes.
Andy Holloway
I refuse that they come and they're like, did you stretch? I don't do that.
Mike Wright
You, you redefine the phrase. The proof is in the pudding.
Jason Moore
You're Randy Moss. You know, you don't. Stretching is useless.
Mike Wright
Yeah. So we, we are very excited. What I think was funny was everybody was like, where's the video for the combine? Like 30 seconds after the combine was over. This is like, we have to like scrub four cameras worth of video and edit the video so that it's presentable. But it's going to be amazing. It's just not.
Andy Holloway
It'll be a couple of weeks, but it will be worth. It will be worth it.
Mike Wright
Let me tell you some things we are not going to tell you results of any events. I will tell you all of the muscle groups that feel like they are broken in my body right now.
Jason Moore
I was gonna say my quads.
Mike Wright
Yeah. What hurts the most, Mike?
Jason Moore
My quads and my hamstrings. The muscle tissue. I woke up. It's now replaced with jagged rocks and broken glass. That's what's inside of my legs right now.
Mike Wright
Right? Yeah. For some reason, I don't really know why. My abs hurt very badly.
Jason Moore
My back hurts.
Andy Holloway
My, my feet are literally on fire at all times. My feet are just torches. Right.
Mike Wright
I told Mike after I did the broad jump, I didn't understand how this was possible. I did the broad jump. Both my arms hurt really bad. Both my arms hurt really bad. I don't know how, but this is gonna be a lot of fun. You guys will enjoy. We'll share some pictures of the event here on Twitter and Instagram and stuff in the next couple days.
Andy Holloway
It was a blast.
Mike Wright
It was a lot of fun. And we had. We had a camera crew out there.
Andy Holloway
And there's some funny, funny stuff, I think.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Mike Wright
There is some surprises for you as well. So welcome to the show. It's going to be a good one today. We got a mailbag show. Going to answer a ton of draft questions, keeper questions, head to head questions, ADP questions. Whatever you have, we're answering it. This is all about the listener today. We're listening to your questions and we're answering them. So I also want to tease the episode we got coming out tomorrow. Very exciting.
Jason Moore
Very exciting.
Mike Wright
Might be the best episode of the past decade.
Jason Moore
Mmm. In fantasy sports, that's a big proclamation.
Mike Wright
Tomorrow is the MVP episode.
Andy Holloway
It's going to be the episode you can't miss this year.
Mike Wright
Sounded like you might be starting, like a Trump speech there. It's going to be the best episode. Huge. We have. What? Who do we have? We have Pat Mayo. We've got Jake Seeley, we've got Brandon Marion Lee. We've got John Paulson.
Jason Moore
We've got Adam Mazer, jj, Zachary Sin, Chris Harris. There are. There are a lot of names and there could be even more filtering in as we speak.
Mike Wright
Yeah. So we're going to have. And then we're going to give our own fantasy MVPs tomorrow.
Andy Holloway
And the great thing about the fantasy MVP episode is it's not just who's going to be the best. It. You know, you've got values, you've got. Listen to next episode and you're going to have pretty much just a wash of about a dozen different players that are, you know, experts saying, target this dude.
Mike Wright
Yeah, it's going to be a great episode. That's tomorrow. And so I'm looking forward to it. All right, for the quick question today. Excuse me. For the quick question. I've got a little game I want to play. I'm going to quiz you guys. This is a ADP guessing game. So average draft position. When you hear me say adp, that's what I'm talking about. Average draft position. This comes from fantasy football. Calculator.com. i'm going to quiz you guys, and I want to tell you. I'm going to give you a spot in the draft and a player name, and I want you to tell me if you believe that player is going higher or lower than that spot.
Jason Moore
Okay, so. But there is no dead on.
Mike Wright
Well, you could. I'll probably have you guessed so you could end up dead on.
Jason Moore
Is that. No, I'm saying it's. Is it either just higher?
Mike Wright
Lower. It's just higher or lower. All right, so Doug Martin. Doug Martin. Is Doug Martin going higher or lower?
Jason Moore
Are we in standard?
Mike Wright
Just.
Andy Holloway
That's a good question.
Mike Wright
We're in standard, the default adp. Okay.
Jason Moore
Okay.
Mike Wright
Is Doug Martin going higher or lower than the eighth pick of the second round? Higher or lower than the eighth pick of the second round?
Andy Holloway
I'm going to say lower.
Jason Moore
I was going to also say lower.
Mike Wright
Okay, the answer is lower. Do you want to take a guess.
Jason Moore
Where I will go 302. I'll go higher than that.
Mike Wright
No, you will take a guess.
Jason Moore
Okay.
Andy Holloway
Okay.
Jason Moore
All right. I'll go 212.
Mike Wright
He's going 212.
Jason Moore
Booyah.
Mike Wright
That was high volume there from Mike. He was very excited.
Andy Holloway
Dead on balls accurate.
Mike Wright
All right, so you guys got that one. How about this one? We've got Matt Forte. Is he going higher or lower than the 6th pick of the 3rd round? Higher or lower than the 6th pick of the third round?
Jason Moore
I'm gonna say higher, man. That's a good. I like that number.
Andy Holloway
I've made mistakes by not having enough respect for people, so I'm going to give them the respect and say lower. As he should be.
Mike Wright
Matt Forte is going lower. He is going the 11th pick of the third round.
Andy Holloway
Good job, people.
Mike Wright
What do you think of that place?
Andy Holloway
That's probably a good spot.
Jason Moore
No, that's still too high for me.
Mike Wright
All right. All right, last one here for the quick question.
Andy Holloway
So are you saying that, like the fourth round, guys, you know, the Matt Jones and those types, you want all of those over? The Forte.
Mike Wright
The Forte.
Andy Holloway
The Forte.
Jason Moore
Likely. It's a. It's a likely situation. Yes.
Andy Holloway
All right, fair enough.
Mike Wright
All Fortes, right? Like Will Forte. Matt Forte.
Jason Moore
Oh, yeah. I'd love to get Will Forte on my fantasy team.
Mike Wright
All right, last one, Alan Hurdle turns. Is he going higher or lower than the 10th pick of the sixth round?
Jason Moore
Higher.
Mike Wright
That was a quick one. From higher. That was a quick one.
Jason Moore
Higher.
Mike Wright
Higher. Lower than the 10th pick of the sixth round.
Andy Holloway
Right now, let me just see this real quick. We tied on the first. I Won on the second. So if we tie, I win higher.
Jason Moore
No, no, because I won the tiebreaker on the first question.
Mike Wright
That is correct. So you need to actually win this. Are you sticking with higher?
Andy Holloway
What was the.
Jason Moore
Was the round.
Mike Wright
10Th pick of the 6th round.
Andy Holloway
10Th pick of the sixth round. Would you really go with three lowers in a row? I'm going to go higher.
Mike Wright
The answer is higher. But where. But where? This will be. This will be the tiebreaker because we'll give Mike the first round. We'll give Jason the second round. Where is Alan Hearns going? He's higher than the 10th pick of the sixth round.
Andy Holloway
I'm going to go six. Six.
Mike Wright
All right.
Jason Moore
I will go. Price is right. And I will go six. Five.
Mike Wright
I guess that's legal. He is going with the second pick of the sixth round.
Jason Moore
Yes.
Mike Wright
And so Mike is. Do you think that.
Andy Holloway
How would Mike.
Jason Moore
Because I'm closer.
Andy Holloway
But I got what. I got all three questions right, and you got.
Mike Wright
No, you did not. You did not get the first one right. Mike did. He guessed.
Andy Holloway
I got all three right and Mike got the second one wrong. I won.
Jason Moore
No.
Mike Wright
What?
Jason Moore
No, no.
Mike Wright
Mike won the first and the third and you won the second.
Andy Holloway
That. This is ridiculous. You said it was a higher or lower game.
Mike Wright
It is the tiebreaker.
Andy Holloway
Foot clan.
Mike Wright
Foot clan.
Andy Holloway
Help me out here. I feel like a man put in a corner. I leave because I'm sick for a couple of days. I come back and these guys are.
Mike Wright
Best friends tearing up right now. I Tearing up.
Andy Holloway
I'm out of here.
Jason Moore
I'm like the father from. From Dirty Dancing. And I have put Jason in the corner.
Andy Holloway
Nobody puts baby in a corner.
Mike Wright
Let's focus on Alan Hearns for a second.
Jason Moore
All right.
Mike Wright
Does he belong there as the second pick of the sixth round, where would you take him?
Jason Moore
I think that's perfectly fine for Alan Hearns. I don't know if he can repeat what he did last year. Some of those, you know, he had a lot of long touchdowns. But watching Hearns play, I think that he can get pretty close to that. I personally think that Alan Hearns is a good. I think he's a good deep threat. So he will still put up some very solid fantasy numbers. And six round is fine for me if you're taking a wide receiver right there.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, it's all right. I think that there's. I think it's fair to grab him there. He's a good, solid number two.
Mike Wright
Alan Hearns or Marvin Jones.
Jason Moore
Jones.
Andy Holloway
Jones is going much later and I think he's Got every bit to be as good or better than Alan Hearns. So I go, Marvin Jones.
Mike Wright
All right, we're going to jump into the news, catch up on Julian Edelman and some other stories that are going on right now in fantasy 4. Andy Holloway
News and notes from around the league.
Mike Wright
All right, step back from the ledge, everybody. Step back from the ledge. It turns out that Mr. Julian Edelman is okay. He's actually practicing right now, so that's good.
Andy Holloway
That was quick.
Mike Wright
Yeah. What's interesting escalated quickly is that yesterday when the report came off, he slammed his helmet. It looked like ankle. He's back today. It was foot. They said it was foot. So scary. You got to pay attention to that. But this Ebron, you know, with Eric Ebron and Julian Edelman, both situations ended up a lot better than what they sounded like. And we gave you everything we knew yesterday morning, but he's practicing today out of Detroit, we're hearing that Marvin Jones is emerging as the number one wide receiver. This is somebody that we've been pretty high on in terms of the value at the position, not necessarily as the guaranteed number one. This is very good news for him and it could be bad for his adp if people start hearing this, that value might dissipate. But he was already, I think, going in the eighth or ninth round. So to me, he's still going to be a value. We just talked about the fact we'd take him over Alan Hearns, who's going in the sixth. There's also news that Golden Tate's just kind of had the dropsies going on in Detroit camp. So I think the.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I think that he'll be fine. Tate has had very, very sure hands throughout his career.
Mike Wright
I just mean that when people are watching and they say he's emerging, if you watch Golden Tate drop a few balls and then you watch Marvin Jones make a few plays, it could make that disparity look bigger than it really is.
Andy Holloway
Sure.
Jason Moore
I'm not. I'm not with this news. I'm not jumping in saying Marvin Jones will be the number one, but you could have a kind of that split number one situation, which I agree makes Jones a tremendous value.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I don't think anything's changed from how we viewed it from the beginning. You've got a guy who can compete for the number one. Do you expect him to win it? Probably not. But to emerge is great.
Jason Moore
Right?
Mike Wright
All right, let's talk about Blaine Gabbard. They say. Well, they. Right. The San Jose Mercury News is Tim Kawakami.
Jason Moore
Nice.
Mike Wright
Got through it.
Andy Holloway
Nailed it.
Mike Wright
Calls Blaine Gabbard the enormous favorite to start week one over Kaepernick. I looked at this news. I looked at. I looked inside. I looked at my thoughts about this because I've statted Kaepernick as the starter, and I'm standing by that. I think what you're going to see is you're going to see preseason games, and I believe that the athleticism and skill of Colin Kaepernick will simply outpace Gabbard in that preseason, and he'll still win the job. Therefore, I am sticking by my opinion.
Andy Holloway
That is interesting, because when this news came out, obviously I haven't been around you guys for a couple of days, thank goodness. And I was. I was looking into this, and the argument is really that, you know, the GM is really the, you know, the guy who's running everything. He's got his hands on everything. And that, you know, Kaepernick was. Was the old regime's guy and.
Mike Wright
Right. Was Jim Harbaugh's guy.
Andy Holloway
Right. And Blaine Gabbard. But I was like, wait a minute. This is Chip Kelly's team. Like, I don't care. Chip Kelly's not going to a team to say, yeah, I'll let the GM just do everything. He can run the show. That's not going to happen. He's going to put the guy he wants out there. And I got to the same point where I agreed. I think it will be Colin Kaepernick.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I still think that it'll be Blaine Gabbard with the play. I mean, look, Recency bias. Maybe Kaepernick can return to form, but he was abysmal last year where Gabbard played the best football of his career down the stretch.
Mike Wright
Bruce Ellington listed as a starter in San Francisco. You need to pay attention to him because this offense will call a lot of plays. They will be moving quickly and the ball, I can promise you will not only be caught by Tory Smith in that offense, Vance McDonald's the starter there, too. We really like McDonald this season, but Bruce Ellington needs to be paid attention to.
Jason Moore
Say the McDonald news is wishy washy out of San Francisco there. One reporter said he's. He thinks he's the number three. Another report came out that has McDonald. I'm just saying there are conflicting reports. It's not just a.
Mike Wright
He was the best pass catcher there. He performed when he was not concussed. We like McDonald.
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Jason Moore
I'm just saying the news is not locked in on McDonald with Bruce Ellington.
Andy Holloway
You saw last year in a Chip Kelly offense, Jordan Matthews was great out of the slot and Bruce Ellington has been a player who you've seen things from and you go, oh, this guy. If he gets the opportunity, if the offense is good, which I don't expect San Francisco's offense to be great, but with Chip Kelly, you know there's going to be volume there. You don't have to be a great team to get value out of the wide receiver positions. Definitely a name to monitor.
Mike Wright
The New Orleans Times reports the second round wide receiver, Michael Thomas has looked like a bona fide playmaker this summer. Look, this is a second round wide out in a Drew Brees offense that has the ability to make plays like Marcus Colson did, but maybe not right out of the gate.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, this is just great news to me for Drew Brees because you go, okay, well, that probably better for Brees.
Mike Wright
Than it is Thomas even.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I mean, I mean, this is. It's good to know that Michael Thomas has been doing great and can and can play that role. I don't necessarily think it hurts Willie Snead. I see kind of that third wide receiver role between Michael Thomas and Brandon Coleman. So this could hurt Brandon Coleman. But regardless, I think the news is just Drew Brees has a lot of really good weapons. I mean, you've got Brandon Coleman. Who's. Who is. All right, you've got Michael Thomas getting rave reviews. You got Kobe Fleener, Willie Snead, Brandon Cooks.
Mike Wright
That's the highest, the highest praise. Praise you've ever given Brandon Coleman.
Andy Holloway
That was. I said he's all right, I think.
Mike Wright
That does it for the news.
Jason Moore
All right, before we move into the mailbag, want to thank today's sponsor again. That is Head to Head sports. That's head. The number two look. They're providing you a unique way to play this season. It's a salary cap format and it is season long. It's not just week to week. You know, you get to form your team in the salary cap style and it's, it's really little up front out of your pocket and you get a chance at some sweet prizes for $25,000 for the unique league. Absolutely.
Andy Holloway
They're good friends of the show and I'm telling you, the game is really fun. Everyone's always looking for another way to use your fantasy football knowledge and play a game. Head to head is great. Yeah.
Mike Wright
And in terms of this show where we're a season long show, they're a great compliment. You know, people like playing the different DFS sports. In this case, you get to play a season long game. So the season long strategy applies to it. People that play it head to head, they stay playing at Head to Head. They've been doing this for 22 years. So you know that they're not just another brand new startup that's popping up and going to go away. But they put a lot into the games that you can play there. They have apps and things like that. So definitely check it out. There is a promotion going on right now. If you use the promo code ballers, you can get a 2495 salary cap team for just 14.95.
Jason Moore
That's the complete package. Salary cap that.
Mike Wright
Yeah. So that's a $10 off deal, 40% off. So go check it out. Head to head dot com. Use the promo code Ballers.
Andy Holloway
Ballers.
Mike Wright
All right, Mike, you ready to get into the mailbag?
Jason Moore
Oh, you know it.
Andy Holloway
Mailbag.
Mike Wright
Feel like we haven't had a mailbag on like the regular show in a while. I guess we snuck one in yesterday.
Jason Moore
Just yesterday.
Mike Wright
I'm a liar. But since yesterday, right. If you have a question, go to the website, the Fancy Footballers.com. click the submit a question button. You can leave us a voicemail question as well. 302-464-TFFB. Let's talk about, let's go to Nick in Indiana here. Let's start with this question. He says, hey, I love the podcast and the udk. I have a draft coming up this week in my league. Instead of having the tight end position, we instead are just using an additional flex spot in Our lineup. Does this change where you draft tight ends not named Gronk in a half point league?
Andy Holloway
Yes, yes, very much so. Because in most of my leagues I grab a tight end because I play a tight end. If you're talking about, you know, late guys, they're not going to score as much as wide receivers. So generally speaking you're going to play guys like Gronk and Reed Olson. You know those guys, they'll be drafted, they'll be started and then you can find value depending on how deep the league is. And maybe you need a high upside touchdown guy for a game, but for the most part I'm going to be rolling with a wide receiver I trust more than a tight end. I trust who you know, you really are banking on a touchdown with a tight end. You know, it gets four or five targets versus that wide receiver that I can find almost off of waivers that's going to go out and get nine targets in a game.
Jason Moore
Yeah, absolutely. I was just trying to look up some points here. So the number 12 tight end last year, this is standard, was Jason Whitten and he scored 87.3 points. So you go down, the wide receiver scoring around 87 points would have been Kenny Britt, the 51st wide receiver.
Mike Wright
That's pretty much all you need to know right there. The one guy that I would think about is Antonio Gates because he's going so late and probably I think will be in the top six at the tight end position. So then you're talking about actually contributing points wise.
Jason Moore
Yeah, the top half. So one through of the Titans last year scored at least 150 points. So that's, there's some value there. But there's just like, like Jason said, anybody after that, there's why you don't. They're not going to score as many points.
Mike Wright
All right. Michael in Pennsylvania has a PPR redraft question. Help him decide. David Johnson, A.J. green in the first round.
Jason Moore
That's, that's a very tough one because when the question getting asked a lot, you know, okay, I'm at number four, I'm at number five. The big three wide receivers are off the board. Who do I go with? I'm in PPR and I always throw out these two names. I say take AJ Green or David Johnson. And I think that when you break it down, it's a matter of how do you play. AJ Green I think is very safe as far as a PPR wide receiver. I think he's locked and loaded. Top five guy with the top three Potential wouldn't surprise any of us if AJ Green ends up in the top three while David Johnson there's, there's risk involved. We have a small sample size, but David Johnson ceiling to me in a PPR is the number one overall running back which is a huge, as you know, is a huge advantage to your team.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. And I think it's clear I am the risk averse first round guy. So to me it's AJ Green by a mile. I'm looking at a guy who has literally never once in his career had less than 1,000 yards and 60% of his years. He has double digit touchdowns, three out of his five years, double digits.
Mike Wright
If you look at our top 200 in the ultimate draft kit for a full point per reception league, we all have AJ Green slotted in as the number four overall pick. We have David Johnson as the consensus number eight. I have them the closest. I have them four or five. But we all agree the AJ Green's the better pick here in a full PPR league. So that's the answer to that one auction keeper question from Brian M. In Littleton, Colorado says, hey, thanks for all the hard work, guys. If I could choose between listening to you or being able to eat double stuffed Oreos with a cold glass of milk every night, I would choose you. Whoa, Brian, man.
Jason Moore
Brian pumped the brakes, man.
Andy Holloway
We're not that good.
Jason Moore
Cold glass of milk. I mean maybe like a room temperature glass of milk. You're like, okay, that's an easy choice.
Mike Wright
I ate about five or six more of those blueberry pie Oreos yesterday. They're unbelievable. You have them here? I have no, I'll bring them in. Don't you say nope without trying them, man.
Jason Moore
I can say nope because I don't like blueberries.
Mike Wright
Oh, gosh.
Andy Holloway
This guy with his I don't like desserts or happiness. That's Mike in a nutshell right there.
Mike Wright
Yeah. All right. I guess he has a question too. He says, who would you keep in a 12 team half point per reception league? He's already keeping Lamar Miller. This is a $200 auction budget league, already keeping Lamar Miller for $32. So lucky.
Jason Moore
Napoleon Dynamite.
Andy Holloway
It sure was.
Mike Wright
Oh, Matt Jones for a bucket buck. Tyler Lockett for a buck. I'm taking Tyler.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I'm going to assuming that. I don't know when you have to lock in these.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I'll take lock it in a.
Jason Moore
Ppr, but it's a half point wait.
Mike Wright
Oh, dang it.
Andy Holloway
I'm going to take Matt Jones here and that's from a guy who literally just today moved Matt Jones down in my rankings as I'm rising on Keith Marshall. But I think the opportunity.
Mike Wright
Do you hear Keith Marshall's the new Kenyan Drake for Jason.
Andy Holloway
That is exactly. Seriously Kenyan Drake. You know, after y. So I got to have my backup. I love.
Mike Wright
Oh, I thought that the new Kenyan Drake was the guy that you love. That really just isn't very good.
Andy Holloway
Oh, yeah. Go watch some tape.
Mike Wright
Marshall's.
Jason Moore
Marshall's fine. But for this I'm going to take Matt Jones. Assuming they don't add somebody in the draft. Yeah, in the draft or sorry, in the. In free agency. I got to put on this chapstick because my lips hurt really bad.
Andy Holloway
We're all very dehydrated from the combine.
Mike Wright
You guys are.
Jason Moore
I was actually going with another Napoleon reference, but you blew it.
Mike Wright
Every day I'm, I'm. There are two or three times on the show. I'm really glad I sit across from the desk as opposed to next to Mike. The chapstick moment just now is one of one of another.
Jason Moore
It was very seductive.
Mike Wright
Frank in Nash Vegas got a 14 team auction league. One running back, two wide receivers and two flex $200 budget. I can keep one of these two. Allen Robinson for $15 or Doug Martin for $12. Thank you. Love the podcast. It is a single player keeper league half point.
Andy Holloway
This is really tough because both guys are great values here for what you normally pay for either one of them. They're very good. So it's in my opinion, it's just who would you rather have on your team if you could pick one and they cost the same because the $3 savings between these two guys is, to me, irrelevant.
Jason Moore
It's also a one running back. You only have to start one running.
Andy Holloway
Dude, I did not realize that. If you only have to start one running back. This isn't a question. It's Alan Robinson.
Jason Moore
I completely agree.
Mike Wright
That would be three people who agree with each other.
Jason Moore
Hey, all right. We did it.
Mike Wright
This question's from Justin in New Jersey. Would an IR slot in your league change the way that you draft? Maybe take a more injury prone guy like Ingram or Deion Lewis.
Andy Holloway
It doesn't change the way that I draft, but it changes what I do right after the draft. I'm always the type of guy that when that draft is over, little, little pro tip.
Jason Moore
Yes.
Andy Holloway
And your team gets entered in there, you hop on and you find some guy that's eligible to move to the IR that's either on waivers or if you drafted somebody, you know right now in my leagues, like I've got, you know, a Thomas Rawls who was listed as out. So I was able to move him to my IR and go pick up another guy off of waivers. Use it to maximize your roster. But I'm not gonna, I'm not going to change. You know how risky I think a player is just because look, he doesn't score points for me from my ir.
Mike Wright
If you drafted right now, today, which people are doing Steve Smith, you can throw him on IR. Darren McFadden, Carlos Williams, Jimmy Graham. Well, Williams, Ledarius Green, these are all in ESPN system right now.
Jason Moore
Carlos is listed as. Oh, it's because he is.
Mike Wright
Those are all IR eligible players right now.
Jason Moore
Technically on the pup. I forgot.
Mike Wright
Yeah, those are all IR eligible guys.
Jason Moore
Wow, that's. That's a technicality, Buster, because he's suspended, but he's also on the pup. Who is William Carlos.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Well, so if you happen to draft one of those guys, just know after.
Mike Wright
Your draft, I mean, Josh Gordon right.
Andy Holloway
Now that you get to pick up.
Mike Wright
Is eligible for the ir.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. You get to pick up an extra waiver wire guy. Just when that roster's in there, move them.
Jason Moore
And know how your IR spot works because not every service provider does the IR the same.
Mike Wright
Yep. All right. Dave in Vancouver.
Jason Moore
Bonjour.
Mike Wright
Well, he says Bonjour right back.
Jason Moore
Bon Jouver. That's where he's from.
Mike Wright
Oh, from Bon Jover. That's way up north. I'm in a 12 team PPR league. Keep up to five players. I'm keeping destination. AJ Green, Keenan Allen and Ingram.
Jason Moore
Okay.
Andy Holloway
Pretty good.
Mike Wright
He's trying to decide on his fifth between. Between old friends, DeMarco Murray or Ryan Matthews. He noticed that the two players have switched spots in our rankings over the last month. Looking for the safest guy to go with the other studs I start with. Well, we face this decision in our last mock draft. If you are looking for the safest guy, it even more confirms my decision here. I would go with demarco Murray.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I agree that demarco Murray is the safer of the two. What's interesting is I had the opposite approach with those four guys. I felt like you have the room to grab a high upside guy. If you've got DEZ and AJ and Keenan Allen and Ingram, you have the room to swing for the fences here. And I would rather have Ryan Matthews, who I think's ceiling is higher than DeMarco Murray because he is the less safe guy. But the higher Ceiling. Now, if you want the safer guy.
Jason Moore
I agree.
Andy Holloway
It is demarco.
Mike Wright
I think that's a really good take. You're basically saying you're looking at his roster and you come away wanting to put yourself in a high upside situation as opposed to what he wanted to do, which was to be safe. We have them 17 and 18 back to back in our rankings. Look, it's completely my fault that Ryan Matthews is not ahead. You guys both have Ryan Matthews ahead. I do not.
Jason Moore
Yeah, it would be Ryan Matthews for me.
Mike Wright
Surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise. Yeah, you need to buy a jersey.
Jason Moore
I'd love a Ryan Matthews jersey.
Mike Wright
Yeah, it comes with like a, like slightly impacted collarbone area. Like that part of the dent on the. There's a dent in the jersey is built in. I'll take it. All right, let's go ahead and go to JP in Brooklyn. I think this is a statement. He says, best fantasy football advice on the market, period. I hope he's talking about us or is he about to give us some advice?
Andy Holloway
Let's find out. Let's see what JP's got.
Mike Wright
Keep two guys. Alan Robinson in the third, Mark Ingram in the fifth, John Brown in the sixth, Kobe Fleener in the 12th.
Jason Moore
All right, keep two.
Mike Wright
Yep.
Jason Moore
No, I'm taking the studs. I'm going Robinson and three and Ingram in five.
Andy Holloway
I agree. Both of those are values. And when you've got values, you don't need to get cute with. Oh, you can get a little bit more value.
Jason Moore
Brown is actually fair priced for his ADP in the sixth.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, that's. That's true.
Mike Wright
He's a value to Jason.
Andy Holloway
John Brown going to be hot. But I agree you go with your studs here.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I agree as well. And what Jason says. Right. A lot of the times you end up in a situation where you're second guessing yourself because you think, okay, Kobe fleener in the 12th.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Mike Wright
Oh, my goodness, that value. Well, you know, Ingram in the fifth, Robinson in the third. You got two studs locked up at extra special pricing. You just go with those. Dan in. Oh, my goodness, Wisconsin. Where is Akitamawak?
Jason Moore
You guys have never been to Akanama Walk.
Andy Holloway
He's a native over here. He was born in.
Mike Wright
Dan has.
Jason Moore
It's my second home.
Mike Wright
Okay.
Andy Holloway
Sorry. That's a real inside joke.
Mike Wright
I make the playoffs every year in my league, but I have never won. Oh, I have scored the most overall points.
Jason Moore
I feel like we need the sad music right here for the. Do we have that?
Mike Wright
I can get it.
Jason Moore
All right, hold on.
Mike Wright
Keep pronouncing his town name for.
Andy Holloway
All right, this one comes in from Dan in Okanawa Waka.
Jason Moore
I'm verifying that this is a real.
Mike Wright
Place that I make the playoffs every year in my league, but I've never won. I've scored the most overall points for the last three years, but my, my scores stagnate in the playoffs. What metrics do you look for in players during the draft to determine if they will have a good chance of excelling in the last few weeks of the season?
Andy Holloway
Dan, we feel your pain. You know, the truth is I am never going to look at a playoff schedule at the draft. I'm more concerned probably with the first half of the season schedule than the playoffs. But it's about mid point in the season where I start really kind of gearing the team for the playoffs. There's certain things that you'll do, you know what comes.
Mike Wright
What do you always say?
Andy Holloway
You don't, you don't win a championship at your draft.
Jason Moore
You build the foundation.
Andy Holloway
That's right. But if you're going to win your championship and make it all the way through the playoffs, it's going to be the moves that you make during that time and the few weeks beforehand that actually push you to a championship victory. It's going to be who you start, who you grab as a backup sometimes, who you keep away from your opponents on waiver wires. Did you grab, you know, a couple weeks beforehand, the right defensive matchup that's got that perfect playoff schedule to give you those extra points to push you over the top? Things like that to me. And that's why, like, don't stop listening. So many players, so many casual fans that are in your position, Dan, they get, you know, I was this way for years. Man, I would get so pumped for the draft. I love fantasy football, but this, you know, life is busy and you just don't have time to always keep doing the research. And so as the season goes on, you kind of just autopilot. Yeah, you autopilot and then you fall into this situation. So hopefully you just keep listening, we entertain you enough, give you enough insight and information where you can make those right pickups. You know, last year I would not have had a chance at my championship if it wasn't for Timmy Hightower. Yes, that was what pushed me over the top, is making the right moves at those points in the season.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I was going to say it's those late guys. It's Hightower, it's Kirk Cousins, it's Matt Stafford. These Guys that you see them catching fire at the end.
Mike Wright
There's also. I mean, this has turned into like a tips and tricks episode kind of.
Jason Moore
Kind of has.
Mike Wright
Look, if you're going halfway through the season and you had a guy like, I don't know, people didn't like Julio Jones's playoff schedule last year, you don't have to make a trade in which you're upgrading to still upgrade for your playoff run. I mean, if you could have flipped Julio for Antonio Brown by throwing in one other extra piece, that might have set you up better for the playoffs than to have a guy you said, you know, what do you do here to make sure you can excel in the last few weeks? You don't know right now. You'll know then. You'll know when you start to see some of these defenses where they rank. And then at that point, you know, very few people in your league are going to be looking six weeks down the line. If you're the one doing that at that point in the season with six or seven weeks left, you'll. You're going to exceed.
Jason Moore
Yeah. I mean, succeed and knock on umwalk. I mean, how could I forget? You just go down the 94 West a little bit from Milwaukee and you're right there.
Mike Wright
Oh, yeah.
Jason Moore
I mean, I completely forgot.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Yeah. Well, it's your second home. Many times.
Jason Moore
Many times I've been there.
Andy Holloway
Next time we put together a Foot Clan event, it's clearly going to be an Okinawa.
Mike Wright
Yep. Down the road. All right, let's go here to Secretary Smurf in unknown usa.
Jason Moore
What is this one pterodactyl?
Mike Wright
And the name of the question is one pterodactyl. So this. I'm afraid to keep reading. Hey, guys. You say you love AJ this year, so I might have been. So I've been targeting him in the first and typically Lamar Miller in the second.
Jason Moore
Okay.
Mike Wright
Due to me targeting the best in the tiers available. But now with Bell dropping to the second round, where do you take Lamar Bell with the possible, with the possibility of being out for four games?
Jason Moore
This is a Lamar. You have A.J. green, and this is Lamar Miller versus Bell.
Mike Wright
Oh, he already bought two packs of double stuffed Oreos for the draft.
Jason Moore
Well, you're gonna have to go back to the grocery store because if you have those right now, you're probably going to be out of double stuff for us by the time your draft rolls around. That's a pro tip.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. I assume the draft is not today, so that's not going to happen. You know, this is a great question. Lamar Miller versus Le'Veon Bell. Le'Veon Bell's been moving up my board over the. I feel like every day I'm like.
Mike Wright
Going in levy on Bell's moving up your board?
Andy Holloway
Well, yeah, because I had moved him down the lowest of the three of us. I had moved him to, I think the 13th was my initial 13th round. Gotcha was the 13th running back. And then I was like, okay, he's got to be top 12. I moved him there. Then I moved him eight, moved him ahead of Mark Ingram. But it's really tough when you're on the board and you've got the value of Le'Veon Bell to say, no, I'm not going to take him now in a PPR league, which this is. I have Lamar Miller as my number one running back. So I'm fine taking Lamar Miller and not, you know, not having Le'Veon Bell that risk of those four games right now, obviously, if he doesn't miss any games, Le'Veon Bell would be my number one PPR running back. So it's a gamble. But I think the, you know, the risk verse reward there says Lamar Miller to me. But you guys might not be as high on Lamar Miller.
Jason Moore
No, I'm taking Lamar there. The ceiling for Lamar is. Is so high. We saw Arian Foster when he. I think maybe he came back too soon because his rushing performance was really abysmal. But him, it was. Go look at. Go watch the tape of Aaron Foster trying to run. It was not good and the numbers back that up. However, in the passing game, he was spectacular and he was still great for fantasy purposes. And my.
Andy Holloway
That.
Jason Moore
My point of that was just to say Lamar Miller, a fully healthy Lamar Miller in that system has upside to be top three, even overall number one at the position, especially in PPR.
Mike Wright
Give me Le'Veon Bell. That's what I'll take. All right, James and Pittsburgh, who are your top three handcuffs and what is the maximum number of handcuffs you would take in a standard 10 team league?
Jason Moore
All right, well, I guess we're. So we're running into more tips and tricks. So handcuffs, generally speaking at the draft, unless you're like, you're the left Bell guy And you know D'Angelo's got four games for you, then, yeah, grab him. But most of the time I'm not over targeting on my handcuffs right away. I know that maybe somebody else is going to pay too much. Let's say I have David Johnson and I want Chris Johnson and You got someone who thinks they're funny and, oh, I'm going to grab Chris Johnson in the eighth. Well, have fun with that. Maybe it pays off immediately with an injury to David Johnson, but probably not. Where a handcuff becomes more important is as time goes on, as you move forward in your season, you're looking towards the playoffs. If once I have locked up or I feel like I'm very close to a playoff spot, then I will start acquiring my handcuffs for, and I will do it for my top two running backs if I know it's a situation where that handcuff will come in and immediately take the bulk of the carries. It's not just a. I have this guy who will now be in a timeshare situation.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
And also, I would just say this. He says he's in a 10 team league. In a 10 team league, it's, it's going to be. The need for a handcuff is much, much smaller. There's just fewer players that are starting and that says that there are better players that I would rather have on my roster that I could plug and play than have my roster filled up with a handcuff that is pretty much a zero or a two fantasy points a week unless an injury happens. I'd rather go, you know, and play the waiver wire right when I need that guy and, or, and, or have other teams fill their benches with zeros.
Mike Wright
All right, this is a very important question from Alex. He says he's in the doghouse and he needs Mike's help.
Jason Moore
There's only one way out of the doghouse. Talk to the big dog.
Mike Wright
All right, here we go. He loves the show. He got his first hashtag Foot clan title last year and he made money on Daily Fantasy after listening to the show.
Jason Moore
Oh, this is trouble.
Mike Wright
He said, mike, I just won my first auction at Pristine Auction. He loves their site and his wife just found out he paid a pretty sum, a pretty good sum for a signed Steve Smith Utah ute helmet. How can I buy all this amazing gear and keep my wife happy? Mike, how do you do this? Because we don't know how you keep buying stuff.
Jason Moore
So here, here is my number one tip. Maybe this applies to your spouse. I don't know. My spouse loves Target and as I don't know if you have someone in your life who likes Target, but I love Target, but. Oh, I love Target too. But here's how Target works.
Mike Wright
So I got them blueberry, orange.
Jason Moore
You're like, hey, I'm gonna go to Target and I'M gonna grab a shirt. $150 later, I'm leaving Target.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Jason Moore
So you just.
Mike Wright
Not just a shirt.
Jason Moore
Right. So the way it works is. And now instead of like, I am going to Target, it's, well, we got. Okay, be careful with the target. You know, it's, what's the budget? What's the spending? It's okay, have fun.
Andy Holloway
So it's the permission. If she has permission to spend, you get permission to spend.
Jason Moore
You're darn right.
Mike Wright
So it's a bribe.
Andy Holloway
So. So Mike's answer is make more money.
Jason Moore
Yeah, well, it's. It's when you, when you're. When you can't afford your mortgage, you know why.
Mike Wright
Right. But at least your wife will like you.
Andy Holloway
Hopefully, you know, we can win you some money back on some daily fantasy or something. Right?
Mike Wright
Right. All right, that's it for today's show, guys. We have the MVP episode. Do not miss it tomorrow. It will be great. You will not want to miss the different names that are coming out of that show that you could pay attention to for the 2016 fantasy football draft. We're going to be talking some hard knocks. Andy Holloway

Fantasy Footballers Podcast - August 10, 2016: Latest News, Listener Questions, ADP Game
Hosts: Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike "The Fantasy Hitman" Wright
The episode kicks off with the hosts warmly welcoming listeners back to the show. Mike Wright expresses his excitement about being present after recent illnesses, commending Jason Moore for his resilience in attending the Foot Clan combine event despite being under the weather. Andy Holloway lightheartedly teases that Jason was not training but merely recovering:
Andy Holloway [01:33]: "Some people are saying, oh, he's not sick, he's just, he's training. He's training. When you watch the combine, you will see a man who does not train anything."
The trio eagerly previews the next day's highly anticipated MVP episode, which Mike boldly declares might be "the best episode of the past decade" [03:44]. They hint at featuring a star-studded lineup of fantasy football experts, including Pat Mayo, Jake Seeley, Brandon Marion Lee, and others, promising listeners invaluable insights and forecasts on the top fantasy football players.
To engage their audience interactively, the hosts introduce an Average Draft Position (ADP) guessing game. Mike Wright explains the rules: he names a player and a draft spot, and the others must predict whether the player's ADP is higher or lower than the given spot.
a. Doug Martin
b. Matt Forte
c. Alan Hurdle Turns
The game fosters a fun, competitive atmosphere, illustrating the nuanced understanding the hosts have of player valuations in drafts.
a. Julian Edelman's Injury Update
Mike Wright delivers reassuring news about Julian Edelman's injury status, clarifying earlier reports of an ankle issue:
Mike Wright [11:02]: "It turns out that Mr. Julian Edelman is okay. He's actually practicing right now, so that's good."
This update alleviates concerns for fantasy managers relying on Edelman's consistent performance.
b. Marvin Jones Emerges in Detroit
The discussion shifts to Marvin Jones' rising prominence as Detroit's top wide receiver, a factor positively influencing his ADP and fantasy value:
Mike Wright [11:45]: "Marvin Jones is emerging as the number one wide receiver. This is somebody that we've been pretty high on in terms of the value at the position..."
The trio debates the potential impact on his draft position, considering his consistent performances and reliability.
c. Golden Tate's Performance Fluctuations
Contrasting Jones, Golden Tate's recent drops in performance raise concerns:
Mike Wright [12:18]: "Golden Tate's just kind of had the dropsies going on in Detroit camp."
They caution fantasy managers to monitor developments, as inconsistencies might affect Tate's value.
d. San Francisco’s Wide Receiver Dynamics
With Chip Kelly at the helm, San Francisco’s offense is scrutinized, focusing on Bruce Ellington and Vance McDonald's roles:
Andy Holloway [15:15]: "With Chip Kelly, you know there's going to be volume there. You don't have to be a great team to get value out of the wide receiver positions."
The hosts emphasize the importance of volume in a high-paced offense, potentially elevating these receivers' fantasy prospects.
e. Michael Thomas Shines in New Orleans
Michael Thomas receives high praise for his breakout summer performance:
Mike Wright [15:41]: "Michael Thomas has looked like a bona fide playmaker this summer."
His burgeoning chemistry with Drew Brees and ability to make explosive plays make him a must-watch prospect for fantasy drafts.
The bulk of the episode is dedicated to addressing listener-submitted questions, spanning draft strategies, player evaluations, and roster management.
a. Nick from Indiana: Flex vs. Tight End Position in Drafting (19:07)
Question: How does replacing the tight end slot with an additional flex spot affect drafting strategies in a half-point PPR league?
Andy Holloway [19:07]: Advises prioritizing wide receivers over tight ends unless securing elite options like Gronkowski or Reed Olson.
"Generally speaking you're going to play guys like Gronk and Reed Olson. ... I am going to be rolling with a wide receiver I trust more than a tight end."
b. Michael from Pennsylvania: Choosing Between David Johnson and A.J. Green (20:58)
Question: In a PPR redraft, should I draft David Johnson or A.J. Green in the first round?
Consensus: Favoring A.J. Green for his consistent performance and reliability over the higher-risk, higher-reward potential of David Johnson.
Andy Holloway [21:49]: "AJ Green by a mile... he has double digit touchdowns, three out of his five years."
c. Brian M. from Colorado: Keeper Strategy in a 12-Team PPR League (22:48)
Question: Who should I keep in a 12-team half-point PPR league, already holding Lamar Miller for $32?
Discussion: The hosts weigh the value between Matt Jones and Tyler Lockett, ultimately leaning towards retaining Matt Jones for his opportunity and role.
Andy Holloway [23:42]: "I think the opportunity."
d. Justin from New Jersey: Impact of IR Slot on Drafting (25:20)
Question: Does having an IR slot change how I draft? Should I target injury-prone players like Mark Ingram or Deion Lewis?
Andy Holloway [26:04]: Suggests that while the IR slot doesn't alter draft strategy, it influences post-draft roster management, emphasizing adaptability.
"I'm always the type of guy that when that draft is over... find some guy that's eligible to move to the IR."
e. Dan from Pittsburgh: Metrics for Playoff-Driven Drafting (31:31)
Question: How can I draft players who excel in the latter part of the season to improve playoff performance?
Andy Holloway [32:00]: Recommends focusing on mid-season schedule strength and being proactive with roster moves during the season rather than overemphasizing playoff schedules at draft time.
"You don't win a championship at your draft... it's going to be the moves that you make during that time."
f. Secretary Smurf: Lamar Miller vs. Le'Veon Bell Decision (35:12)
Question: With Le'Veon Bell dropping to the second round, how should I value Lamar Miller versus Bell, considering Bell's injury risk?
Andy Holloway [35:55]: Favors Lamar Miller for his lower injury risk and reliable performance in a PPR system.
"I think the risk vs. reward there says Lamar Miller to me."
g. James from Pittsburgh: Handcuff Strategy in a 10-Team League (37:36)
Question: What are your top handcuff picks and how many should I carry in a standard 10-team league?
Jason Moore [37:46]: Advises minimal handcuffing in smaller leagues, prioritizing roster flexibility over depth.
"In a 10 team league... I'd rather go... have other teams fill their benches with zeros."
h. Alex in the Doghouse: Balancing Fantasy Spending and Personal Finances (39:29)
Question: How can I continue purchasing fantasy gear without upsetting my spouse?
Response: The hosts humorously suggest budgeting, communication, and ensuring responsible spending to maintain harmony at home.
Andy Holloway [40:58]: "If she has permission to spend, you get permission to spend."
As the episode wraps up, the hosts remind listeners about the forthcoming MVP episode, encouraging them not to miss it due to its significance and the expert insights it will offer. They promote their community platforms, urging listeners to join their fantasy football community at joinTheFoot.com and follow them on Twitter @the_ffballers for real-time updates and engagement.
