Jason Moore
Welcome to the Fantasy Footballers Podcast coming to you from the fantasyjocks.com studios with your hosts, Andy Holloway, Jason Moore and Mike Wright.
Mike Wright
Good morning, welcome to the show. Mike, Andy, Jason in the building.
Brooks
Fellas, on the way into the studio this morning, I fired up the Andrew wk. When it's time to party, we will party hard. Okay, I may be a little bit over amped for the show today.
Mike Wright
How much caffeine have you had?
Brooks
Just the regular amount of coffee, but I had a full direct shot of party rock into the veins.
Mike Wright
Alright, good, good. I'm glad you're here. I'm glad you're present. You just came from a school assembly. No wonder you're still here.
Brooks
I did. My daughter won one of those, you know, like where they give out the award. The monthly award. Yeah.
Andy Holloway
I want that bumper sticker on your guy, Mike.
Brooks
She got it for caring. Which we were very happy to hear.
Mike Wright
She got it for caring.
Brooks
Shocked? Yes.
Andy Holloway
Like, no, no, no, you got that wrong.
Mike Wright
They're teaching caring now.
Brooks
They are.
Mike Wright
Wow. Impressive.
Brooks
Yes. Life skills.
Mike Wright
Yeah. That's good. Maybe you'll get verified now.
Brooks
You want an update?
Mike Wright
Yeah. Did you get a reply?
Brooks
No, I have not got a reply. I can check. I have, like I said on the Twitter, I applied now. It's the sixth or seventh time that I've applied. I believe I'm still in the review process.
Andy Holloway
Someday you're gonna find out that I am actually where those applications go. It's never gonna happen, Mike.
Mike Wright
Oh, well, that's good. Well, I'm glad you're in the review process. That's one step ahead of declined.
Brooks
So let's make sure I'm still in it and not already declined.
Mike Wright
All right, we've got a good show today. We're answering some offseason fantasy football questions. We have a great quick question. Mike just pulled off a big dynasty trade we're gonna discuss and so we're excited about that. We have some news and notes to get into a review of Source Rex and more. Off season preseason 2017 fantasy football. Goodness for you.
Andy Holloway
Do you know what today is?
Mike Wright
It's Thursday, February 23rd.
Andy Holloway
Today is kind of our first megalodon of the year because we have a Tour de force. Today we're doing this show.
Mike Wright
Yeah, we're not leaving.
Andy Holloway
We've got the foot cast over@jointhefoot.com because it's Thursday. We do that every and then we got a live stream today also for the jointhefoot.com people.
Mike Wright
Well, it makes sense at the peak of the NFL season here on February 23rd to be just filling the day with football, doesn't it?
Brooks
This is peak off season, my friend.
Mike Wright
Peak, peak off season. We also have Brooks in the building. Brooks, say hello. Hey, everybody.
Andy Holloway
His voice is live.
Mike Wright
We've been petition to give him a microphone. So we did give him a microphone, but there's a button to stop him from talking.
Andy Holloway
The button should really be over here.
Mike Wright
So Brooks is in the building producing the show and we're happy to have him here. Let's go and get into the Quick question, guys. Mike, why don't you lay out this trade that you just pulled off in your Dynasty league? A lot of fantasy football owners right now are navigating everything from fresh Dynasty drafts to Dynasty trades. The off season is obviously an exciting time for Dynasty owners with trades and the upcoming draft. So lay this out for us because you were. You were asking us what we thought of this trade when you were putting it together.
Brooks
Yeah, it was a big trade. And shout out. Corey Evans just put up a magnificent intro, really good intro to Dynasty because we know there's. I'd say the bulk of fantasy players are still redraft and keeper and more and more people are getting excited about Dynasty. So if you want to get, you know, the lay of the land, the basics, Corey's article on our site, the fantasy footballers is spectacular. And to combo with that, tomorrow we have Matt Harmon's Mike Williams reception Perception will be on the site.
Mike Wright
So I thought this is a great.
Brooks
Time to talk about Dynasty because I just had this big trade and this will surprise. If you follow the show. This won't surprise you that I am very aggressive when it comes to fantasy football. I play to win. I took home the title in this league last year with a very stacked roster. And then I had the opportunity. These don't come around very often. An opportunity to snag a superstar. And I was talking to another guy in the league and he, for whatever he went into rebuild and he said, zeke is on the block. And I was like, holy crap. I compare Zeke with David Johnson and I knew I had some assets that he really liked. But it was big time. I gave up a lot. So here's what. Here's what the trade offer ended up or the final trade turned into. I sent CJ Pro Size Tevin Coleman my first and second round pick this year, which are the 12 because I won the championship and a first next year, which if I know the dynasty players out there are all like everyone's having a heart attack that I just bailed out on two first round picks plus two potential high level talents eventually. But I mean I got Zeke for one running back. For one running back. And. But to me this set my team up for not only win right now but, but I mean I could go on a two to three year just.
Mike Wright
And you're, you're coming off the championship.
Brooks
Yes.
Mike Wright
Right.
Brooks
So I, I'm going full dynasty mode here where we're setting a dynasty within the dynasty.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, you're not.
Brooks
I'm going for three to four straight titles right now.
Andy Holloway
You're not going dynasty league style.
Brooks
You're going, you're going Team Patriots dynasty.
Mike Wright
It's. It. Look, I like the trade. I said I would do it when you, when you floated it in our slack discussion. I like to trade for you. I like the position you're in. You just won the championship. I will just say like, you know, you have that aggressive approach, but will you have the option to do that anymore if things go the wrong way? In two to three years, right. You won't have ammo, you won't have players. So you can say I'm going to be aggressive. But if in two to three years you don't have any assets, your aggressive nature will mean signing like the backup to the backup on the waiver wire.
Brooks
And the real goes down.
Andy Holloway
That's what I was going to say. I mean you're trading, you know, six, seven assets for one. And if that guy gets injured, you just got, you basically got seven guys injured on your lineup. So that's, that's the risk. But you're. The rest of your team is stacked and I would have done the trade.
Brooks
If I were you as well in the thinking the process for people out there, I mean, you know, a superstar, especially in a dynasty league, getting acquiring a superstar like Zeke, even if it's the running back position, I know that he, he won't be a superstar for eight years like a wide receiver can, but it's just, it's very difficult. Not. These guys are not often available.
Mike Wright
No. I've tried to pick one up all offseason in our other. In our dynasty league and it's not happening.
Brooks
Someone said, hey, he's on the block So I went very aggressive because I've seen people say, hey, this, this person is on the block like we had in our other Dynasty league. Our buddy Troy said, hey, Melvin Gordon's available. And I think people just cannoned offers at him. I sent what I thought was a very strong offer. Melvin Gordon has not been traded right. In our league. So people, they feel like, oh, I'm going to put them on the block. But they're not actually on the block.
Mike Wright
Yeah, no, I like it. So if you want to follow the show, you can do so on Twitter heffballers. The website's the fantasy footballers.com and like Jason said earlier, we have a live stream today and a exclusive, an exclusive podcast called the Foot Cast that we do only for JoinTheFoot.com supporters that support this independent podcast. From time to time we like to read reviews from the listeners. Your reviews on itunes really help support the show. So we're gonna do that right now and only the way Jason can.
Jason Moore
Review a source rags.
Andy Holloway
This one comes in from a Will Curse.
Brooks
I believe it's Willikers. Willikers, as in G. Willikers.
Andy Holloway
He says championships on top of championships. By far my favorite fantasy football podcast. I've been listening year round the last two years and have won three out of four leagues. Well done, Willikers. These guys are knowledgeable, entertaining, and their podcast is of the highest quality. P.S. thank you for not getting political. I didn't want a reason to stop listening. Keep up the good work. Go Bears and Cowboys and David Johnson. All right, well, thank you G. Willikers.
Mike Wright
We appreciate that.
Brooks
Speaking of political.
Mike Wright
Oh.
Jason Moore
News and notes from around the league that have been great.
Mike Wright
If I had a news and notes from around the world ready to go right there. All right. Ian Rapoport is reporting that Lev Bell, who saw doctors post playoffs, has not scheduled groin surgery. Would have happened already. So the question I posed to you guys is how is he, you know what, what things going to happen to get him further in the draft like the past couple of years? Because if he's not going to do the groin surgery, we need something to knock him down into the second and third round. Maybe like a traffic stop.
Brooks
I don't, I don't think it's going to happen this year.
Mike Wright
Well, a holdout. Holdout.
Brooks
Hey, holdout. There is a possibility of that because if you're the Steelers, I mean, I don't know if you can give Lev Bell that long term deal that he wants. So I think we're looking at a.
Andy Holloway
Franchise, the franchise tag is going to be great for them. If the.
Brooks
What was the Adrian Peterson.
Andy Holloway
If Adrian Peterson gets cut by the Minnesota Vikings, then the franchise tag, which is basically the price of that is determined by the highest paid at the position will go from $12 million to $8 million.
Mike Wright
Yeah. It's determined by, I believe an average of the top five.
Brooks
Three or Three or five.
Mike Wright
That's. That's crazy though. The AP salary will impact this other team so much. You know, I feel like. I know we already have a players union. I feel like there should be like a subunion of just running backs because I am always on the side of the running backs. They're the players that get beat up the most and paid the least. I mean, you look at what David Johnson makes now, short career, life. Yeah. Short opportunity to be in the league and be a premier guy, I think they should be able to cash in. Problem is you don't. I mean, that's. You don't have to like, you can draft a running back.
Brooks
Yeah.
Mike Wright
David Johnson is the third.
Andy Holloway
What.
Mike Wright
Third round pass.
Brooks
So if you're the Rooney family, how are you not buzzing up the Vikings ownership? Me like, guys, AP looks done. AP looks bad. By the way, I left a million dollars of cash. It's just, it's just right in front of your door. There's no, nothing attached to this. But Adrian Peterson looks like you should cut it, right?
Mike Wright
No, that's.
Brooks
That's a net savings.
Mike Wright
Is that how you'd run your gm?
Brooks
I'm not saying I would do that for one year, but I am saying they would save.
Mike Wright
He didn't say he was aggressive in dynasty league.
Andy Holloway
That is very.
Mike Wright
The NFL is quite a dynasty.
Brooks
I referred to said if I was the Rooney family and I had the 101 in Dynasty, then I would be sending Le'Veon Bell packing.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Yeah. So that is the Le'Veon Bell news. It's good news. I think it's good news that he's not going to have groin surgery. For those of you that own him, Washington could be interested in acquiring a veteran quarterback like Tony Romo if they decide to trade Kirk Cousins. I've heard so many Kirk Cousins rumors lately. The trend right now, the sentiment is that there's a 50, 50 shot. He's not back with Washington. Washington is going to lose a couple weapons. Some trade rumors about San Francisco, Washington getting the number two pick that they could use on a quarterback or they could go with a veteran. It's. It's crazy to me in the NFL today. When you have a guy that's been as prolific and capable as Kirk Cousins that you're still questioning them. I don't know how similar this is to the decision that Buffalo is making with Tyred Taylor where they're saying, you know, like they're. I think Buffalo is totally fine with Tyrod Taylor starting.
Brooks
Right.
Mike Wright
I think Kirk Cousins and I think Washington's totally fine with Kirk Cousins starting. It's the commitment. There are commitment issues on both sides where they're going, oh, gosh, do I. Do I have to pay Kirk Cousins like Andrew Luck? I mean, I don't want to.
Andy Holloway
You don't want him to probably be your quarterback for the next eight years because, you know he's not a championship level. You.
Brooks
Well, that's how they. It seems like they feel.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Brooks
Yeah.
Mike Wright
If you decide that, then that's what makes the commitment issue happen. And I don't know if Tony Romo, they're going to let him go in division. Yeah, you know, that's. That's the problem. There we were.
Brooks
We. News was breaking about every 30 seconds on Kirk Cousins yesterday. It was. It was chaos. But I think you're right if, if Dallas is going to say, hey, Tony Romer, we're going to do the right thing by you. Which in the NFL, I mean, that's. That's an extremely rare thing when a team says, we're going to do right by the player, and they say, okay, Rummel, we'll cut you. You can go wherever you want. And then he's like, hey, guys, I'm going to. I'm going to go play for your division rival. They're.
Andy Holloway
Tony, that would.
Brooks
It's tough. That's a tough situation to navigate. Just, it's like from a personal friendship type of level.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. I think if they do right by Tony, he'll do right by the. By the Cowboys. However, if you wanted to see the Cowboys east, as I would call it, have Tony Romo go there and have them use one of those high draft picks on, like, Leonard Fournette. They got a good offensive line. I think they would be a lot like what Dallas looks like.
Mike Wright
All right, let's move on here. The Bears have actively started seeking a trade partner for Jay Cutler. Oh, and this report's from three years ago.
Brooks
Let's say.
Mike Wright
No, not really.
Brooks
Update for the Peter King. The Peter King that he thinks that he wouldn't be surprised if Jay Cutler ends up with the Cardinals. The Cardinals immediately shut that down and said, no, thank you.
Andy Holloway
Not interested.
Mike Wright
Nice reporting, though. Jay Cutler is expected to be medically cleared by March. There was a report this morning that, you know, one opinion out there was that he won't play in 2017.
Brooks
Is that Peter King again?
Mike Wright
No, it's not Peter.
Brooks
So if he's not going to the Cardinals, he's not playing at all.
Mike Wright
Yeah, well, Jay Cutler will find a home. It won't be hard to do. We had guys like Cody Kessler starting in the NFL last year. Players like Brock Osweiler being paid $72 million. I think Jay Cutler is an upgrade for about seven to eight teams in the league.
Andy Holloway
Go to Houston. I mean, I would. I would. If I was Houston, I would take Jay Cutler in a heartbeat.
Brooks
Yeah. Deandre Hopkins would skyrocket. Get that Jay Cutler single target.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Brooks
Yeah.
Mike Wright
All right, last report I want to talk about here. Ian Rapaport saying it's going to be very hard for the Patriots to re sign impending free agent Martellus Bennett.
Brooks
Yeah, he's gonna get paid.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I think he will, too. And it's not going to be by the Patriots, most likely.
Andy Holloway
Bennett's been on Twitter saying, like, don't you, you know, he's like, come at me if you think I'm not taking the money. Like, he's. He's going for the money. Whoever pays him the most, that's where he's going to live.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Those brothers, they're.
Brooks
I love them.
Mike Wright
They're rapscallions.
Brooks
I love them.
Mike Wright
All right.
Brooks
I like that they are outspoken.
Mike Wright
All right, we're going to jump into the mailbag.
Jason Moore
Mailbag.
Andy Holloway
Mailbag.
Mike Wright
If you have a question for the show, you can submit it on the website thefantasyfootballers.com click the Questions button. You can also leave us a voicemail question at 302-464-TFFB. We're excited to answer your questions. Help set the table for your upcoming year. This first question comes in from Aaron in Hortonville, Wisconsin. He says, would you keep AJ Green for $44? In a 12 team standard scoring auction league, the most expensive player and also a wide receiver was Antonio Brown at $59. Awesome show. And also he purchased the ultimate draft kit on the website.
Brooks
Oh, appreciate that, Aaron.
Mike Wright
Which, by the way, includes auction value.
Andy Holloway
I was just going to say that, you know, when I look at AJ Green, his value will probably be right around $44. So I would be willing to purchase him for that. I think it's a fair price and so I'd be willing to keep him. I don't think you're Getting a steel, but I don't think you're overpaying either. So if you want to keep AJ Green and have a great option going into next year, it's absolutely fine by me.
Brooks
If the market. You've seen the market. Antonio brown was almost 60 bucks. I assume this is $100.
Andy Holloway
200.
Brooks
Is it two?
Andy Holloway
Yeah, almost certainly.
Brooks
No, no. If it's two. If it's 200, then this is. That's easy.
Mike Wright
No, I think it's 200. Really?
Andy Holloway
Yeah, 200.
Brooks
Oh, then absolutely. This is. That's a simple question for me, but I feel like this is $100 question.
Mike Wright
No, no chance.
Andy Holloway
In a $200 auction budget, which is the standard usual auctions, you usually see the top wide receivers go for about.
Mike Wright
60, including last year when Antonio Brown went for $60 in our $200 league.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Brooks
Okay.
Mike Wright
The question I want to ask out of it is, would you rather have Antonio Brown for $59 or AJ Green for 44?
Andy Holloway
That's fair.
Mike Wright
And I think I would take AJ Green. I'd save the. Save the 16 bucks.
Brooks
I would. If it's literally those two guys, then I would get Antonio Brown.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I would as well. I would rather have the superstar, assuming that Big Ben is not retired. Right, fellas? Yeah.
Mike Wright
All right.
Brooks
Thanks, Peter.
Mike Wright
Keeper question from Josh in Michigan. He said this. He said, we play in a two quarterback league, which we can keep one player every year and forfeit a pick in the following draft based on where they were drafted. Should I keep Ty Hilton and forfeit my 4th round pick or keep Tyrell Williams and forfeit my last pick in next year's draft? Is Tyrell Williams going to continue his role with Keenan Allen back in the mix? It's a great question. I think it's one that is difficult to answer because we've seen Keenan Allen not play a full game in almost two years.
Brooks
Yeah, I love Tyrell Williams moving forward. I think that he will be a great fantasy wide receiver, but he won't be what he was last year. I think Kenan Allen will just command so many targets. And we've seen when Keenan Allen was on his tear that season, maybe they didn't. I can't recall who the auxiliary wide receiver was, but they. There was no other really strong fantasy wide receivers at that time for San Diego. So I would take Ty Hilton for a fourth round pick. You're getting a great value. Hilton will go second, third round. And so, I mean, you're already getting a value for a guy who should easily be top 10.
Mike Wright
I agree. I would take Hilton in this situation. There are a lot of, very. A lot of my argument against Keenan Allen was based on the variables in that offense. And those exist for Tyler Williams, too. Not the injury concerns, but the fact that, okay, you've paid Travis Benjamin, you have Hunter Henry coming into his own. Gates will be back. You're moving, you have a different head coach. It's too hard to count on Tyrell Williams to bounce back.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. And even if he does, right, let's say he's just a shade under what he did last year. You're getting a better value with Tyrell Williams, but you're still getting the worst player. And when you have a value in Ty Hilton, who is Mike right now going on top of the second round and you get to keep him for a fourth rounder and he's a great weekly starter. You go with your. With the stud.
Brooks
Where do you think. Where do you think Tyrell's going to go?
Andy Holloway
I don't think Tyrell's going to go.
Mike Wright
10Th round.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I mean, that's really about where I see.
Brooks
I feel like he should be. Should or no? I feel like he will be in that 8 range. I'm going to look him up.
Mike Wright
Yeah. I'm guessing 10th or 11th.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Right now, 8th range is Desean Jackson, Eric Decker, Jameson Crowder, and I would.
Mike Wright
Draft all those guys well ahead of Tyrell.
Brooks
Okay.
Andy Holloway
All right.
Mike Wright
Before we jump into this next question, I do want to take a minute and thank today's sponsor, keeping the show going. That's pristineauction.com look, we get tweets every single day from first time purchasers who go on to Pristine auction find that perfect piece of autographed authentic sports memorabilia to add to their home. It's absolutely incredible. The most recent one we have came in from Dustin Tester. He just added a signed Ty Hilton photo to his Colts room. Yeah, it's impressive. You can see that it's been tweeted to us. We get these every single day. From those of you that join up, check out Pristine auction. It's completely free to get on there. Check out the literally hundreds of daily auctions. Everything from a Walter Payton signed helmet today.
Brooks
Zeke.
Mike Wright
There's a Zeke helmet today. There's a Bo Jackson signed helmet today.
Andy Holloway
Look at this. Dak Prescott signed Cowboys framed jersey.
Brooks
And they have stuff. They have stuff for all budgets from the low end to the extreme ballers, which would include a Tom Brady 2001 game used Patriots jersey.
Mike Wright
Yeah, there's some.
Brooks
You want Tom Brady Sweat on the wall. This is where you go.
Mike Wright
Yeah, yeah. So check it out. Pristineauction.com that's P R I S T I N E auction.com let them know the fantasy footballers sent you. We thank Pristine Auction for supporting this podcast. Let's grab another keeper question. This one's from Josh in Michigan. All right, Josh. Oh, that's the one I just read. So probably don't need to.
Andy Holloway
I would go Ty Hilton.
Mike Wright
Probably don't need to ask someone again. Let's go with Dom in Virginia. Dom has a question, a keeper question. Do you keep Julio Jones for a first rounder, Devonta Freeman for a second rounder, Dez Bryant for a second rounder or Tyreek Hill for a 10th round pick? It's a PPR 14 team keeper league.
Andy Holloway
We got to pick two, right?
Mike Wright
You got to pick two of them.
Andy Holloway
I got them. I got them. For me it's easy.
Mike Wright
It's easy for you. Okay. I think it's easy for me as well. And I'm going to go Julio and Tyreek.
Andy Holloway
Those are the. There's so there's four guys.
Mike Wright
So you have the other two.
Andy Holloway
I have the other two. So obviously it's a difficult question here.
Mike Wright
I would go Julio and Tyreek.
Andy Holloway
I would go Des Bryant and Devonta Freeman. I think if Des for a 2 rather than Julio for a 1, I would rather. And I think you have to have.
Mike Wright
He won't have the opportunity to do that though. Well, that's because he can't trade question.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
You can't do two second round picks so he's going to have to move up one of them to a first.
Brooks
Well, usually to me it's a slide back.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Brooks
So does he get. If he keeps the two second round.
Mike Wright
Guys, why would it be a slide back? It's almost always a slide up when you not when you have two guys.
Brooks
Not in my experience.
Mike Wright
If you have two guys in the same round, you don't get rewarded.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, you do sometimes. That's depending on the league.
Brooks
In my other keeper league that's how the reward comes is if you have two guys being kept in the same round.
Mike Wright
If it's a 2, 3 situation, then I go those two guys to force it to a 2, 3 situation.
Andy Holloway
And if it's a 2 one situation then I would go Julio and Devonta.
Brooks
Freeman and I would go, yeah, I mean you. Tyree caters in half point ppr. I would much rather have an elite player, an elite reception.
Mike Wright
I need a friend. Brooks, will you chime in on the Tyreek situation. Are you pro Tyreek or anti Tyreek? Well, if you remember, Andy, I did decline that trade.
Andy Holloway
Oh, yes. Dang it. All right, that's great.
Mike Wright
Now be quiet.
Brooks
I'm not anti tyreek. But in 10th round, that's some value for sure for where Hill's going to go in the draft. But you're looking at top five guys with Julio Freeman.
Mike Wright
Certainly with the bump back. I'd go the 2, 3 to force the bump back. And then you've got your first round pick available. You have Freeman and DEZ Bryant. If I cannot first round town.
Brooks
If I can't bump back, then I'll go. I'm going with Chase and I'm going Julio and Freeman.
Mike Wright
All right, here's an interesting question from Eric and Raleigh, North Carolina. This is a draft strategy question. What do you guys think about creating an artificial supply shortage at the draft? Maybe a QB shortage by round with examples. I could go rb, wide receiver, qb, running back, wide receiver, qb, running back, wide receiver, qb. Too risky to set a tone.
Brooks
So this is. This is a yes.
Andy Holloway
Don't.
Brooks
Don't do it, Eric.
Mike Wright
It is possibly.
Brooks
He's trying to get trade beat and.
Mike Wright
I think it's possibly the worst idea and decision he could make.
Andy Holloway
Completely agree. Do you guys remember when this strategy was used in our league of record?
Brooks
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
It was at the defensive position and the guy kept taking up all the good defenses.
Brooks
Well, we've also had it with. With the quarterbacks.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
Where someone tried to steal Tony Romo from you and you ended up with a better player.
Brooks
Yeah.
Mike Wright
Well, because there's 30 quarterbacks and there's 12 owners in a fantasy league.
Brooks
I was going to go with the owner who drafted both Brees and Rogers and then could not unload Drew Brees later in the league and had to take a far discounted deal to get rid of him. The thing is, Eric, I guess if.
Mike Wright
Your league freaks out about him.
Brooks
Yeah, certainly. But we've talked about this. Of the power of streaming quarterbacks off of the waiver wire. 40 quarterbacks last year posted a top 12 week. You can go back historically. I think it was 43 the year before that, 40 the year before that. So I mean, just these guys, you can. And it's not a mystery magical science of figuring out who's going to have a great game. Just you look at defenses. It's. We talk about it throughout the season.
Mike Wright
Think about what you're giving up.
Brooks
Yeah.
Mike Wright
Potentially. Especially with taking Brady in the third round.
Brooks
Take the bird in the hand situation. Here I'd rather get the running back, the known, the known player instead of, maybe I get to trade one of these quarterbacks later. Maybe I don't like Wilson. If you had done this with Wilson. You're sitting there in week four going, ah, crap, no one is ever going to trade for Russell Wilson.
Mike Wright
Now what do you do?
Andy Holloway
He's burning a bench spot, he's cut him. And the reality is you are, and we all are, either 1/10 or 1/12 of the league. We just don't have enough power in the draft to affect the other 11 teams by our decision. You know, you can do it a little bit when it's like, okay, I'm coming up near a turn and there's two guys that are picking before my next pick.
Mike Wright
You can also do it if you have a real homer in your league that just loves, I don't know, for instance, Philip Rivers. Right. And you know they're going to trade for Philip Rivers if you draft him. You could take advantage of a single owner in that strategy. Yeah, maybe the Drew Brees, the, the super Patriot fan. But as a overarching supply shortage, you're not creating one unless you take a quarterback with every pick of your draft.
Brooks
And if you want, maybe this is. If you're talking just kind of is a holistic of your league and you want, you feel like you want a shortage of supply for the quarterback, then turn it into a two quarterback league.
Mike Wright
That's right. Right. You're saying as a whole league strategy. Okay, Mike in Niagara Falls. This isn't you, is it?
Brooks
I've done the barrel.
Mike Wright
You did the barrel over Niagara?
Brooks
Yeah, I survived. Me and Pippi Longstocking.
Mike Wright
A lot of people put Alan Robinson in that barrel last year and threw him over. Need help picking two keepers? A standard league, no round restrictions. And I can keep them forever.
Brooks
Forever.
Mike Wright
Odell Beckham Jr. Todd Gurley, Carlos Hyde or Jordy Nelson? What a great question. Because Odell Beckham Jr. Is done. He's in. You're not. He's not even part of this conversation anymore. So now you're deciding between Gurley, Hyde and Nelson. Very tough question. I think it's girly for me.
Andy Holloway
You know, look, I've spoke very poorly on Gurley.
Mike Wright
You spoke to your defense. You speak poorly on everything that is factually accurate.
Andy Holloway
I think I would take Gurley here. I prefer usually having the. You know, in this situation, it's between Gurley and Jordi. Right. And in general, I think I might like Jordy by a hair more than Gurley. I believe in him to be a top option but they're very close and I would rather go into a draft if they're very close. Being able to have I've already got a wide receiver and a running back so now whoever falls to me I could take the best that I want available in the draft versus saying man I have to get this running back because I've got my two wide receivers and and now all the running backs are gone and I worry about that. So I think I would go Gurley.
Mike Wright
And Beckham here, we're one year removed from Todd Gurley being quite the dynasty looking prize.
Brooks
Yeah. So we're and we are.
Mike Wright
We were not one year removed from that with Jordy Nelson. Like Jordy Nelson doesn't look like we're zero years removed. Well, he doesn't look like a dynasty prize today is what I'm saying. Like Odell Beckham Jr. Is a dynasty gold mine. Jordy Nelson is not a dynasty prize.
Andy Holloway
Well, this is a two keeper league. I view keeper leagues as a redraft.
Mike Wright
No, and I wouldn't overreact to it either. I'm just saying if anybody has the potential of being a multi year like gold mine for your keeper league, I think early is higher. If it's a close debate I know Mike's about to tell me he's going to take like Gates, Antonio Gates over Gurley.
Brooks
I was just going to say to your point about Todd Gurley, I mean you had if you go back two or three years, Eddie Lacy has skyrocketed to be a top three dynasty running back as well.
Mike Wright
Great example.
Brooks
These guys can fall off extremely quickly for fantasy production and if we're talking a one year Carlos Hyde versus Todd Gurley, I'd prefer Carlos Hyde this year. Okay. But I'm with Jason that I'm not going to overreact to the keep forever. It's awesome for Odell Beckham and he's probably going to be on your team for years to come. But I would take Jordy and know that by the end of next season I'm on my on my roster will be someone who I'm going to feel great as my second keeper if it's not Jordy again.
Mike Wright
Sure, sure. Let's move to this question from Channing in Lynnside, West Virginia. I have two second round draft picks and the eighth pick in the first round. I'd really like to have David Johnson or Lev Bell. Yeah, we all would but I know they will not be available when it comes to my turn the guy at number two does not have a second rounder and wants to do the following trade. I receive the number two overall pick, I give the eighth pick in one of my second rounders. Do I take a top round? Do I take the top down value or do I sit tight and take depth with those early picks?
Andy Holloway
So very similar to, you know, in a lot of ways to Mike's dynasty trade. Do you.
Brooks
Yeah, kind of. But here's, here's how I would probably.
Mike Wright
Don'T do the trade.
Brooks
Well, this is what you, you should do. Try and do the best of your ability right now. Do some mock drafting and you know, estimate who's going to be there at the eighth pick and then who's going to be there in that second round. Would you trade those two guys for Le'Veon Bell? Because it could be yes, it could be no. It's also a two quarterback league. So I mean, I can't say for sure if I would do if this is a yes or a no for me, but that's the exercise that I would run to help me figure this out.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, if, if I could, if I could make sure that it was my later second pick. So I've got a high second rounder still and now I get a high.
Brooks
What if they're. He didn't say so what if they're, what if they're the 11 and the 12?
Andy Holloway
Like. Well, if they're both basically the same. Yeah, then it does make a difference because I would like a high first round, high second round or the two quarterback league. It does play to the advantage of having more picks though because all of a sudden you've got a little bit more position scarcity at an additional position. So there's an advantage to having three, you know, picks in the first two rounds. So I agree. I would probably not do the deal.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I can. I mean, I don't have everybody laid out in front of me. But what that second round pick is Amari Cooper, if you want him. And you mix Amari Cooper with the eighth pick in the draft.
Brooks
I'm pulling up some.
Andy Holloway
Here's the adp. The eighth round. I'm sorry, the eighth pick is going to be a fan super fast.
Mike Wright
It might be Mike Evans. I mean, you've got, you've got the three fantastic player.
Andy Holloway
Regardless, you've got the three, you know, stud, stud wide receivers in Odell Beckham, Julio. And I know you put, you guys are putting Mike Evans in there, but you know, Antonio Brown, Julio and Odell Beckham. Those are clearly in there. Then you have David Johnson, Zeke and Bell, which is six. Now it's a two quarterback league. Aaron Rodgers will absolutely be going Rogers Brees, Andrew Luck. I mean, there's going to be a superstar there for you.
Mike Wright
All right, keeper question from Connor and Omaha. Who would you have as your third keeper? He already has Shady and Antonio Brown and he can choose between Sammy Watkins and Tone. I'm sorry, Sammy Watkins, DeAndre Hopkins or Devonte Adams? Who you got.
Brooks
Read those names off.
Mike Wright
You already have Shady and Antonio Brown and can choose between Watkins, Hopkins and Adam.
Brooks
Who is. Who is DeAndre Hopkins, quarterback?
Andy Holloway
Oh, I can tell you right now, DeAndre Hopkins is. That's my lowest of these three for me.
Mike Wright
Unbelievable.
Brooks
You guys are on fire today.
Mike Wright
We are opposite. There's no. For me it's Hopkins and fire up the pala Abdul.
Andy Holloway
Let me just verify. Let me verify because we. And this is, this is good breaking news. I believe by the end of the week our initial rankings will be on our website for 2017. Yes, sir. I'm going to check my wide receiver ranking.
Brooks
February ranks just.
Andy Holloway
Just to. Just to see does he give the scoring format half point. So in a half point.
Brooks
So it's going to be Tom Savage, right? Are we assuming that it's Tom Savage?
Andy Holloway
No, I think it's Rock.
Mike Wright
I think it's. I'm going to Tony Romo.
Brooks
You think it'll be Romo?
Andy Holloway
Well, then give me DeAndre Hopkins.
Mike Wright
Look, here, here's what I think. I think that I know that Houston's not going to live an entire year with Brock Oswald like last year. And so I'm guessing you're back to. Back to back. So for me, for me, they're not going to live in that situation. I think Hopkins is the target monster of this group. Adams can disappear at times. Watkins has had the injury history and the quarterback situation. To me, it's Hopkins.
Andy Holloway
So they are back to. Back to back, which is crazy. And I have them ordered right now. Sammy Watkins, Devonte Adams, DeAndre Hopkins.
Mike Wright
There you go.
Andy Holloway
And Mike, Mike, what do you think?
Brooks
I agree that it's. It's all quarterback related for Hopkins. Sammy Watkins. I do think it will be Tyrod Taylor, but the injuries. Watkins disappearing at times is scary. But do you really want to buy in to Devonte Adams having one monster?
Mike Wright
He's not. He's the only guy in this list that's not a one. He's not the one on the. On the team.
Brooks
Yes, very fair. But he is the 1 1B on a team that has the best quarterback.
Andy Holloway
Here's the National Football League. It is far more valuable to be devonte Adams and be the second best wide receiver on your team than it is to be the best. Look at Sammy Watkins last year and DeAndre Hopkins last year. They stunk. DeAndre Hopkins finished, I think, wide receiver 36. Look at the. Look at the top wide receivers. You had Brandon Cooks and Michael Thomas, right? Both in the top 12. You had Amari Cooper, Michael Crabtree, both in the top 12. You had Jordy Nelson and Devonte Adams, both. When you have a Hall of Fame level quarterback or a great, you know.
Mike Wright
Offense, do you think Devonte Adams is putting 12 touchdowns up again? Because these are the same arguments that were used to justify Randall Cobb.
Andy Holloway
No, no, no.
Mike Wright
For years. And I don't think 12. Look, Hopkins caught more passes last year than Devonte Adams.
Andy Holloway
In my rankings, they are 20, 21 and 22.
Mike Wright
Sure.
Andy Holloway
So I'm not, I'm not calling for.
Mike Wright
The repeat here, but the upside potential to me is much higher for Hopkins. When you're the number one and you've seen what he did before, where he had a season.
Andy Holloway
I think if you're going true upside, then it's Watkins.
Mike Wright
No, true up. You're telling me watkins upside is 111 catches, 1500 plus yards and 11 touchdowns? Because that's what Hopkins already did in 2015.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, but not with Brock Osweiler.
Mike Wright
He did it with nobody. Still, he did it with Brian Hoyer and two other backups. You cannot tell me what you got to say. The Hawks upside higher on the guy that's already had an otherworldly year than the guy who hasn't done it.
Brooks
I will say this. Aaron Rodgers had. Because we want touchdowns, right? You're talking about Ken. Devonte Adams sustained that. Aaron Rodgers was number one in the league with 128 passes inside the red zone. All right. Huge number down here you have. I know brock didn't play 16 games, but he played basically the whole season. Brock Osweiler, 62 passes in the red zone. Tyrod Taylor, 56 passes in the red zone. And I know that Sammy Watkins is. Is a dynamic deep threat, but the group, the packers are just. They're going to score boatloads of points. They will score those points again next year and they will continue to throw inside the red zone. That's just what they do.
Mike Wright
You say all that to say, who are you taking? Who are you taking to that group?
Brooks
This is really, really difficult.
Mike Wright
Like I said, the number. The problem with being the number Two is. It could be. You know, it was Randall Cobb two years ago.
Brooks
Yeah.
Mike Wright
Devonte Adams has one year of 75 catches. I'm not buying in. He's going to. I just wrote down he's going to be one of my fades. Because if people are picking him over Watkins and you're on the clock, only.
Andy Holloway
Those three players are available. I would.
Brooks
I'm going to take Adams.
Mike Wright
So, Jason, you took Watkins.
Andy Holloway
Actually, I have a note based on your rankings. No, I have a note here. Move Watkins down. So I'm going to be taking devonte Adams.
Mike Wright
Brooks, who do you have?
Brooks
Oh, Brooks. Brooksie Hopkins and Watkins.
Mike Wright
Hopkins. Well, you only pick one, so. Hopkins. We only needed one.
Andy Holloway
Sorry, that's my order.
Brooks
That's Watkins. Adams, that's your first and last time answering a question. Brooks.
Mike Wright
That took a while too. All right, this one comes in on Twitter from avid gross9. Any chance perryman or Dixon can be dependable starters?
Brooks
Dixon, sure. There's absolutely a world where Dixon can be. There's a world where both Perryman could. Yeah, look at that. Look at what's happened to that wide receiver core.
Mike Wright
Steve Smith is gone.
Brooks
Gone. Kamar Aiken's a free agent. Who else do you have?
Mike Wright
Mike Wallace is in the clouds. Yeah, but he's okay.
Brooks
I still like Mike Wallace for next year, but you're in a situation where that wide receiver core is just going to be completely rehauled. He's still a first round pedigree. We've seen some flashes of it. The Ravens are throwing the ball more than almost every single team in the league. I don't know if they are going to keep that up, but yeah, Joe Flacco was number two in the league in completions and attempts. So there's absolutely a world where Perryman can be a reliable start. And what's nice about Perryman is he will still be buried in the draft. He'll be one of those later round guys that you can take a nearly free shot on and move on if you have to.
Mike Wright
All right. Tommy duffy at King TD 22 says at the FF ballers, how do you occupy yourselves in this time of year? Especially. Especially for non dynasty?
Brooks
There's too much to do, man.
Mike Wright
How do you occupy yourself in February for a non dynasty player? I can tell you, testifying to our own activities. We are pouring ourselves into the development of the ultimate draft kit. That is a. You know, you got draft prospects right now, two free agency and the NFL draft right on the horizon. So for us we are trying to prepare the ultimate draft kit in its entirety. You know, we're building out all of our preseason rankings. We're building out our projection systems and all of those things. So we are certainly in the preparation mode. I know we had to buy Brooks a microphone. That took a while.
Brooks
I'm doing tons of data collection here, breaking things down. Like another stat here for Green Bay, their wide, their wide receivers. The wide receivers for Green Bay were 85% scored. 85% of the touchdowns for that team.
Andy Holloway
Seems like a number that's going to regress it.
Brooks
Does it?
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Brooks
Who's going to run them in?
Andy Holloway
Eddie Lacey.
Mike Wright
Is he sure they had no running back this past year?
Brooks
Well, they had Montgomery, who was actually a wide receiver. He was pretty good. I think he was over five a carry. I mean, he got it done. He just wasn't running them in because they say, why would we do that when you have Aaron Rodgers, he's a monster in the red zone.
Mike Wright
No, I. Look, it's a really good fantasy football discussion to talk about the twos and threes on high profile offenses and comparing that to the ones that have let you down for the entirety of the year. Whether it's an Allen Robinson or Watkins or Hopkins. These guys that even a guy like Pryor. Right, like Pryor is the number one on this, on that Browns team last year. But you had reliability issues. You couldn't count on touchdowns.
Brooks
That's.
Mike Wright
It's a really, really good debate we saw two years ago in 2015, you saw green Bay, they brought James Jones back temporarily and Aaron Rodgers immediately makes James Jones relevant. The fear is less about like the whole argument is right to me. I think someone will do that. I just don't know if it's Adams or Cobigan or a mysterious Geronimo Allison or some. Or maybe it's Jared Cook. Like, it's just harder to predict, I think. But maybe, you know, that's. It's a good debate, it's a good discussion. I'd want to hear what the Foot Clan has to say about that a little bit. Maybe share your thoughts on Twitter. Whether you'd rather put your stock in a guy like Hopkins or Watkins to be that breakout number one 1500 yard guy, or rather you'd rather go the Eric Decker route, you know, and have that solid, consistent, you know, hope for Devonte Adams. So that's a, that's an interesting question to me.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I agree. I mean, it's a real question mark. This last year you saw the top level wide receivers score less touchdowns and the wide receiver 2 and 3 score more touchdowns. Just looking at a, you know, going back 10 years, that, that was the trend that kind of broke the way of the secondary of the second and third. Wide receivers.
Brooks
You saw running back scoring a lot more too, so.
Mike Wright
And there are other players that fall into this category than Devonte Adams. I mean, Dante Moncrief probably falls into that category.
Brooks
Right?
