Andy Holloway
A date that shall live in infamy, really?
Jason Moore
February 16th, huh?
Andy Holloway
For the Fantasy Footballers.
Jason Moore
Oh, I know where you're headed. Yeah, I know where you're headed. This is the official last recording of the show and our old studio. And what better way to commemorate that than Boyz II Men?
Andy Holloway
Yes. And if you're wondering how we're gonna say goodbye, we're burning it to the ground. Wait, no one can use it.
Mike Wright
It's gone. I brought a sledgehammer today. This is the unchristening event. It's the opposite.
Jason Moore
Yeah. We're waving goodbye and bigger and better things. We've got a new studio. We're debuting next Tuesday. Gotta make you excited.
Mike Wright
I am excited.
Jason Moore
Yeah. It's gonna be great. It's gonna be. Gonna be great. Today we have.
Mike Wright
Which means when we talk about the studio, we realize the majority of our listeners are just that, they are listeners. And so the new studio makes no difference to you. It will just seem like the same. Which is why you need to go and subscribe on YouTube. Yeah. Right. So go.
Andy Holloway
This is a big moment for those.
Jason Moore
Of you watching on the Fantasy Sports Network or those of you on YouTube, you will see a new studio on Tuesday.
Mike Wright
There you go.
Jason Moore
And we'll be, you know, we'll be spreading our legs. We'll be comfortable. Mike won't be putting his feet up on the desk. What did I say? Spreading our legs. Wow.
Mike Wright
We already have an early winner for the Jason Morrism Twitter account.
Andy Holloway
This show just took a very sharp turn. Oh, man. For the worst.
Jason Moore
Really don't know what to burn it to the ground. I really don't know what to say at this point. What was I trying to say?
Mike Wright
We'll be studying our wings. No.
Jason Moore
No.
Mike Wright
Not even flying like an eagle.
Jason Moore
No.
Andy Holloway
I don't know. You. You can.
Jason Moore
I don't know, like. Like, we'll have room to spread out.
Andy Holloway
We'll be stretching our legs.
Mike Wright
Stretching our legs.
Andy Holloway
A lot different.
Jason Moore
There you go.
Mike Wright
Those mean quite different things.
Jason Moore
We won't be spreading.
Mike Wright
Well, come to the new studio where we'll be gymnastics.
Jason Moore
Take two.
Andy Holloway
Gymnastics.
Jason Moore
All right, today's show we have trending or ending, which means we're looking at some of the storylines from 2016 and we're making some early determinations on whether we believe those trends will continue or whether it was kind of a one year thing or a two year thing. And so we're going to go through several of those storylines today.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Is it the new normal?
Jason Moore
Is it the new normal? That's a good way to put it. A reminder for our listeners, we have a number of new articles up on the website, the fantasy footballers.com we have a fantasy report card article on Dez Bryant coming out. Yeah, we have an article about players who will rebound by Corey Evans on the site and a number of other articles. So definitely check that out.
Mike Wright
And while you're this is the time of year for dynasty and for drafting of rookies if you're wanting to do some of that wide receiver scouting, our reception perception articles by Matt Harmon will be going up very, very soon on the website as well. So check that out.
Jason Moore
It's so true. Your words are very true. On Twitter you can find us at the FF Ballers. Follow jasonasonffl. Follow Mike at FF Hitman. Follow me at Andy Holloway if you want to check us out on Patreon jointhefoot.com and we're on Facebook, YouTube, iTunes, everywhere. Quick question of the day. All right, this one comes in from the community section on jointhefoot.com it is a keeper league rule question. Great question for right now we are all about fixing your league, getting it right for the upcoming year. So this question from Aaron Clark says wondering what your rules are. What, what do you use for a keeper league our first year doing it. I want some expert advice. Thank you. And he says he's looking forward to the off season preseason with the fantasy footballers. So great question, Aaron. We our main kind of legacy 10 plus year league is a keeper league. So I think it's, you know, we can certainly share what we do. I don't think it is the only way to do it by any stretch of the imagination. No, there are preferred.
Mike Wright
Yeah, there's, there's a lot of good, completely different ways to run a keeper league. There is no, you know, we will fight for things that we think is.
Jason Moore
Right like fabric or half point perception.
Mike Wright
Fab is better than the alternatives. Half point PPR I think is the most fair scoring. We'll fight for those things. However, the way that we do keepers is we have selected three keepers. Every team has to, must gets to select three keepers that they have next year. And then so you go into the next year's draft, essentially you just have a Full draft, you don't have to worry about, oh, I'm missing a third rounder or a second or a, I gave up a 16th. It's just you basically are after those first three rounds in a way.
Jason Moore
And we place restrictions on those keepers. So the way we do it, it's really fun. We actually have teams select one franchise player and that player is theirs to keep, guaranteed. You've got them. And then we have them select three additional keepers that go into a keeper lottery. So we added this extra day during the calendar. Right. We do it right when the NFL.
Mike Wright
66 days a year, we had an.
Jason Moore
Extra day to the calendar, to our calendar. And so on the NFL draft, we. When the NFL draft happens, we get together and we dump all those names into a keeper lottery and each team a giant golden. We actually do use a giant golden.
Andy Holloway
What do you call that?
Jason Moore
I don't know, like a bingo Turner type of thing.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Jason Moore
And we all sit down, we spread our legs and we know. We sit down and we come on and we turn that. And you get two of the three keepers and the other one goes back into the draft pool.
Mike Wright
And so here's a perfect example of how this can play out in different ways. Mike's fantasy team right now is really reliant on whether or not Doug Martin has a team because usually Mike is going to franchise Antonio Brown. Right. You're not going to give the chance of him.
Andy Holloway
Nope.
Mike Wright
Being up available to draft because he didn't come out of the ping pong machine or the bingo machine. So you might actually be putting him in to correct.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, the, the way it works out with all the rules, what would be optimal for my team would be to franchise LaShawn McCoy and then I get a lottery between three different wide receivers, which I have. Edelman, Ty Hilton and Antonio Brown.
Jason Moore
Yep.
Mike Wright
So.
Jason Moore
So you would get two of those three at random.
Andy Holloway
I know that my team, even if I didn't get Antonio Brown, comes out better, but do I want to take that chance of losing the number one fantasy wide receiver?
Jason Moore
Other keeper rules to keep in mind. As soon as the keepers have been selected, we allow draft pick trading in our league. We keep that dock open so all off season people can be making deals, trading their keepers plus picks, trading picks for picks. It makes it really thundering during that part of the year. Anything else that's really worth mentioning? I mean, that's kind of how we format. I know a lot of leagues, obviously they have draft picks that are exchanged for the players.
Mike Wright
Yeah, this, this question is coming in from jointhefoot.com which means you have access to footclanleagues.com and over there we have an article detailing our exact scoring format and all the nuances of the rules. So you can take a look there for more information.
Jason Moore
That is very smart. All right, let's get into the news.
Mike Wright
News and notes from around the league.
Jason Moore
All right, it's been reported that Sammy Coates is recovering from sports hernia surgery, not a hand operation. We know he had problems with the hand last season. He kind of looked like he was going to break out, was a popular waiver wire pickup and then disappointed anybody who paid fab or spent their waiver priority on him because he didn't do anything the rest of the way.
Andy Holloway
Correct. And if you don't recall, he had a massive, massive laceration on his hand. I don't know if we got even a real clear report because it was talking about he had a broken finger. No, he has two broken fingers. Well, he doesn't have broken finger. It continues now as reported weeks ago was that Coates had a hand operation, but now that appears to be false. What do you guys think of, of Coats moving forward with the Steelers? Martavis Bryant is still a quite a wild card. Will he actually be reinstated? Sammy Coates, I mean, he very, very small sample, but he did have an absolute monster game.
Jason Moore
I don't have a very high opinion of his future.
Mike Wright
I think he's worth monitoring. He's one of those players that has the potential to have a high future, but I'm not necessarily predicting it will be that. Marcus Wheaton is a free agent. I don't expect him to.
Andy Holloway
He also is not very good.
Mike Wright
Yeah, but I don't expect him to be back at all. If Martavis Bryant doesn't come back and you have all of those injuries that Coates dealt with this current season that hampered the flashes that he did show, then, you know, the cards could fall. The cards could fall. The chips could fall the right way. Yeah, yeah, there you go. And they could turn out to make Sammy Coats valuable. But he's just someone to monitor as of now.
Jason Moore
All right, let's talk about Smokey Brown. The Cardinals president Michael Bidwell believes that the team has solved John Brown's sickle cell issues. We all love John Brown last year, and then he went through health concerns that limited his snaps, limited his effectiveness on the field. Bidwell said he is very healthy and it looks like the doctors had found the issue related to sickle cell. And so they expect Smokey John Brown to be back. If he's back. Michael Floyd's gone. Larry Fitzgerald plays a role underneath in that Heinz Ward type of thing. But John Brown would be the leading contender for high reception totals steal of the draft.
Mike Wright
I was, I was a year off on him because he is, he still burns bright in my heart. I really believe he was. Last year he was one of my three my guys and I really believed that he was going to break out.
Jason Moore
And we had whole season was ruined by the injury.
Mike Wright
Yeah, we had an ep an episode a couple weeks ago where we wanted to remember things from 2016. And what I wanted to remember was that some of the guys that you like that you saw good things in, maybe they're one year away. And don't forget about these players. And where John Brown is going to be drafted this next year is going to be very low. He is not going to cost you a high pick.
Jason Moore
And yeah, I can't really see any scenario in which his draft position will be driven up.
Mike Wright
Right.
Jason Moore
Because he will not have the opportunity to prove before the season that he's healthy or that he'll be effective. And so I think his draft position stay the same. Yeah, people are pretty down on Carson Palmer in general from what I can tell in the fantasy community. They view him as a, you know, 15 to 20 type of guy. And so there is opportunity. I mean we saw John Brown last year. Didn't he have a game with. Yeah, he had a high reception total.
Andy Holloway
Game one monster game. So over under eighth round for John Brown.
Mike Wright
He's going to be under or over whichever one he's going to be ninth or higher.
Jason Moore
Yeah, he had a 10 reception game last year. 10 for 144. That was the kind of thing we saw from him the year before. But really from week four on, he was just pretty much non existent in that offense as he was dealing with the sickle. So I agree. I think he'll be a low draft pick. I think when Larry Fitzgerald, it's not like Larry's not there. And so you're just waiting for someone to emerge and then move that one player up the draft board. This is somebody who no matter what will be drafted behind. Larry Fitzgerald may be drafted behind a rookie that the Cardinals draft.
Mike Wright
Right.
Jason Moore
That has more of a pedigree or more of a more notoriety. So John Brown, I mean I can almost guarantee you he will be barring new information, he'll be one of our steals of the draft in our ultimate draft, kid.
Mike Wright
Yeah. And we've seen it before with Players like Patrick Peterson, where they get a legitimate disease like diabetes, which John Brown had sickle cell this year and he needed that whole year before he could actually get his body back to. Right. And then he had that. So he had that down year, came back and his lights out.
Jason Moore
Victor Cruz. Apparently there is some interest from Denver to use him as a number three wide receiver. It's not really a fantasy relevant information when you're already struggling for relevance from, you know, where to draft Emmanuel Sanders and demarius Thomas with the quarterback situation there. But I, you know, Cruz showed me enough on the field last year to make me think he can come in and have a veteran impact the same way that, you know, Anquan Bolden did in Detroit. I mean, I saw Cruz make some great catches along the sideline. I saw him show enough possession skills to still be a player in the league, but not a fantasy player.
Andy Holloway
I think this is more of a product of. If I had tweeted this out last week or a couple days ago that the leading receivers in order for the Denver Broncos, you had funny, Demarious Thomas close to 1100 yards. Manuel Sanders right around there, the third leading receiver on that team. Devonte Booker with 265 yards.
Jason Moore
Yeah, they went through a ton of different.
Andy Holloway
That's a situation.
Jason Moore
Yep, yep, that's. But. But that Cruz can do that. Cruz can come in and be that Cruz can.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
He'll give you 265.
Jason Moore
All right. All right. Hey, this is big news. Steelers expected to retain ladarius Green. Nothing final, but it's being reported in Pittsburgh that the. The decision to keep him on the roster is likely. And so there will still be the upside curiosities about ladarius Green. I certainly won't be using any of my draft picks on him.
Andy Holloway
I think you'll be able to get him at the very end of the draft. And I guess to me that risk we going into week one, that will be completely worth that risk. We saw what he can do.
Jason Moore
But would you. I mean, would you rather have Eric Ebron with your.
Andy Holloway
No.
Jason Moore
You'd rather have Darius Green?
Andy Holloway
I'd rather take Ladarius Green. You're crazy. Green over a healthy ladarius Green. Which. That's a huge factor. I completely agree.
Jason Moore
Unicorn thus far.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. But we. We saw what he can do for that team when he's actually healthy.
Jason Moore
It makes sense. Mike likes, you know, Jordan Reed and those type of guys.
Andy Holloway
High risk, man.
Jason Moore
High risk.
Andy Holloway
No risk and no biscuit, my friend.
Jason Moore
Yeah. All right. What else do we got the Rams have come out. Well, we'll talk about Todd Gurley. I'm not gonna bring him up right now. We'll talk about him in trending or ending. And then we have reports that the Browns quarterback coach is a big Tyrod Taylor fan. So if Tyrod perhaps was cut by I think, I think Buffalo, he could end up in.
Andy Holloway
He'll end up a starter somewhere, I believe.
Jason Moore
I think he's probably talented enough to be a starter.
Andy Holloway
He's shown enough. And I don't know what the Bills did with their contract where if they keep Taylor next year they have to pay him over $30 million. It's crazy.
Jason Moore
That's not what I read.
Andy Holloway
It's not?
Jason Moore
No, that's not what I read. I thought the number was around 17.
Andy Holloway
Maybe. Maybe a guarantee turns into 30 or something.
Jason Moore
Maybe. Yeah, maybe the guarantee.
Andy Holloway
I know that if they keep him, they do owe him a lot of money.
Mike Wright
I think I saw that his guaranteed money was number one.
Jason Moore
It does say that he got 9.5 million on signing and another 27.5 million is guaranteed for injury only. So. Well, regardless.
Andy Holloway
Right?
Jason Moore
Big decision for Buffalo. All right, we're going to get into trending or ending. Go through some of these storylines. Before we do that, I want to remind you we announced this big News yesterday. The 2017 Ultimate Draft Kit is available for pre order right now. You can go to ultimate draft kit.com youm will get it at the bargain basement. Early bird pricing. You're not going to get it any cheaper than right now because we're putting that out there. The Draft kit was a huge success last year. We had tons of reviews from people who used it, had great drafts. Set that foundation. That's what we say. We set that foundation for your 2017 season and this year we're adding to it. We took everything that was good last year, kept the price the same, all that stuff the same. But this year we reached out and we got Matt Harmon, Matt Harmon's reception perception exclusive content that will be added to the draft kit. And so you will not be able to get that anywhere else. This is not going to be out there. This will be, you know, that secret sauce information for you and your fantasy team. So check it out atultimatedraftkit.com we're also coming out with a DFS pass. You can read about that on there as well. Let's get into this very special segment. Mike has prepared a special if these trends continue.
Mike Wright
Hey.
Jason Moore
Disco stiff. All right, so let's talk trending or ending I think I'm just going to say that segment name over and over again.
Andy Holloway
Trending or end. It's. It is fun to say. I want to start Francisco before we.
Jason Moore
Get into some of these other ones. I'm going to start with Todd Gurley.
Andy Holloway
Oh, he got.
Jason Moore
He's getting the bump because yesterday we had the. He was my valentine.
Mike Wright
Yes.
Jason Moore
You guys, Mike and Jason, we're on a Slack channel. You guys were dropping a very frightening statistic.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, it was.
Jason Moore
Why don't you share that to. I'm trying to pull it up. It was set me up for failure.
Andy Holloway
So Lord Reeves, if you're not following Lord Reebs, get your life in order. Spectacular fantasy information. But he talked about Gurley in his first four full games. Ran for 1461-591281-00133. Monster explosion was single handedly winning fantasy weeks for you if you held on to him through those first couple weeks where he was recovering from the ACL. However, in 24 games since then, it's.
Mike Wright
A large sample size.
Andy Holloway
He's been over 100 yards once. He's been over 80 yards four times.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
And so what Lord Reeves is talking about.
Mike Wright
I'm no mathematician, but that means 20 times out of 24 he has not hit 80 yards.
Jason Moore
So if you're, if you're talking trending or ending, I know where you guys are probably gonna stand. I'm going with ending. This. This, this situation is ending for Todd Gurley. You have to look at the situation. I understand that is an overwhelming statistic. There is no world in which I could come out. I'm thinking those election commercials. I can't come out with any film last year that makes you want to elect Todd Gurley. But I will say this. The Los Angeles Rams, the run blocking is atrocious. Last year. Yes. 3.1 yards per carry. Do you know how many of those yards came after contact last year for Todd Gurley? 2.2. Of that, 3.1 came after contact for Todd Gurley.
Andy Holloway
That's rough.
Jason Moore
Over 70% of his yards came after contact last year. The run blocking is terrible. According to Pro Football focus of the 26th rank offensive line, you had no threat in the offense. You had extremely horrible offensive philosophy put in place by that team. I believe in Sean McVay. I believe in the talent and pedigree of Todd Gurley and I believe in the opportunity to improve. And all that being said, all of the horribleness. Right. 3.1 to carry and everything that was Inefficient about Gurley. Last year he was still the 15th ranked running back. Okay. He is not. I mean he's. He's a one. He is a one to me. Is. Is he top five? That, that's a stretch for me. I think seven or eight is a really reasonable expectation and if he's drafted in a place that does not align with 7 or 8, I will be happy to put him on my team. Trending or inning.
Andy Holloway
Gentlemen, do you happen to have the. The lower ranked offensive lines or did you just pull the girly.
Jason Moore
I have them all.
Andy Holloway
You do. Okay, so who. Give me the bottom three.
Jason Moore
The bottom three offensive lines according to one's got to be Pro Football Focus is San Francisco, Minnesota and San Diego. Seattle is the fourth to last.
Mike Wright
Okay. All right.
Jason Moore
So it's Seattle, San Francisco, Minnesota. San Diego is the bottom four.
Andy Holloway
So San Francisco below them. Below the Rams.
Jason Moore
Correct.
Mike Wright
Carlos Hines.
Jason Moore
Carlos Hines, yeah.
Mike Wright
Okay. How's David Johnson's offensive line?
Jason Moore
According to Pro Football Focus, David Johnson's offensive line ranked 13th.
Andy Holloway
But my point was just. Carlos Hyde almost had a thousand yards on the ground and was far more efficient than Todd Gurley.
Jason Moore
I share. Most players are efficient when they play half a season. I'm just saying that from when Todd 88 yards. When Todd Gurley leads in carries and you know, he got the ball in volume because they had no other option.
Andy Holloway
Sure.
Jason Moore
I'm. If you give that much volume to Carlos Hyde, you're telling me his efficiency goes up? I don't think so. Well, it's never happened before.
Andy Holloway
Carlos Hyde did play 13 games and speaking of some in offense that had one effective weapon. It was. I mean San Francisco is right there to me with the Los Angeles Rams. I share optimism for Todd Gurley. I mean those. You can't just completely garbage bag those first four games of his career and his entire collegiate.
Jason Moore
No, I mean all your arguments are right.
Andy Holloway
It just.
Jason Moore
David Johnson did a lot with a little.
Andy Holloway
I just share a high concern and to me it's all going to be about that draft price. If, if people are going to cling on to that and say, hey, I'm still taking that chance in the second round, then he's not going to be for me because I think that's. I think that the trend continues of him being in that. That 12 to. I know that's a wide range, but I don't see him as a one moving forward.
Mike Wright
I think it is the new normal. I would say the trends continue with Gurley because even though they did get rid of Jeff Fisher and they're bringing in a new head coach, a new offense which has, I love his offense, has to help the Rams. I think that that is good, but that doesn't automatically improve your offensive line. Like what's going to change the offensive line between this year and next year? And when I went and I watched, you know, unfortunately not as much as I wanted to, probably 30 runs, unfortunately.
Andy Holloway
I had to watch some Todd Germany.
Mike Wright
Unfortunately I had to watch about 30 different runs between a couple different games last night because I wanted to actually see eyeball. And I will say this, most of the runs weren't his fault. Most of the runs were like, oh, goodness gracious, you get the ball and you got four guys on you. But there were in those 30, probably five different plays where all he had to do was just beat one guy. You know, where there was opportunity like every running back gets. There was an opportunity to just break this tackle and you're going to gain, you know, 12 yards to outrun this guy and you're going to gain 11 yards. And he didn't do it any of those times. None. And when I watched games, you know, we are fans of the Cardinals, you know, the NFC west, we are high on watch a lot of Rams games. He did not pass my eyeball test. He never looked special to me last year ever doing anything. And he's not that great a pass blocker. So I think this is the new normal for Todd Gurley. We disagree.
Jason Moore
I'm sure we'll talk about it all off season. All right. Trending or ending the DeMarco Murray resurgence? He was the RB5 in 2016. He is a perfect follow up because he was a player who.
Mike Wright
Bad system for him, terrible.
Jason Moore
The mindset going into the draft, let's put it this way, could Todd Gurley end up being what DeMarco Murray was last year? For fantasy owners, somebody that highly doubted coming off a bad season turns it around. Yeah, there's that possibility. DeMarco represented a huge fantasy gold mine for somebody who took him where where he went because he was the RB5. So will this trend continue? He's not changing teams this offseason. Going right back to Tennessee, but a year older. What do you guys think about DeMarco Murray's resurgence? Is it trending or ending?
Andy Holloway
I think it's will be trending for demarco Murray. I think that he has enough and we're all we've talked about the draft kit. I'm getting ready for the draft kit and I was Just collecting so much data, breaking things down. Demarco Murray in the red zone had nearly 23% of the team's targets in the red zone. Nearly 23% of Mariota's target red zone targets went to Demarco Murray. I don't think that's going to change. Maybe it's not 23 but he just such a high probability of scoring when you're getting, you know just dump offs inside the red zone and you can move that even up into inside the 10. He was over over 23% of the team's targets inside the 10. So it just give they give him great opportunity to score. Plus he's not in that Chip Kelly system. He doesn't need to run laterally all the time out of the shotgun. He they he can move forward. That's what he does. That's when he was great in Dallas. That's when he was great last year again with the Titans. I know that Derrick Henry I expect Henry to be get to get more involved. We saw that towards the end of the season started taking away some of those goal line carries. So maybe they will lighten that workload. But even still I think that Murray will continue to be a high, high capacity workhorse running back and I think that he's got enough left to give you at least one more great year of fantasy.
Jason Moore
I won't add anything to that. I agree completely. He's trending for me.
Mike Wright
The one thing I will say because he was trending for me as well coming into today, I believe in DeMarco Murray. I think he fits that system. But it is worth pointing out because when I look back at Marco Murray's season, right he was good front to back. He had a great year. There was no real issue. But when you actually break down his numbers front half to second half of the year. Second half of the year he was the RB11 so it's not like he was bad but the first half of the year he was the Rb3. We're talking a difference between in standard scoring he was 17 points a game first half of the year, 12 second half of the year. So I think it, I think the trend is going to stay as him being an RB one this year but he is going to be a lower end RB one for me. Not the, you know the number five.
Andy Holloway
Guy as of right now way too early drafts but Fantasy Football Calculator DeMarco Murray and Todd Gurley are going back to back. Murray is going one slot ahead of Todd Gurley.
Mike Wright
Give me all the DeMarco.
Jason Moore
There you go.
Mike Wright
Right?
Andy Holloway
Yes. I think that that will actually continue as we go.
Jason Moore
It'd be pretty hard for me to pass into Marco Murray for Ty Gurley.
Andy Holloway
Right.
Jason Moore
It would depend on my team's makeup or if. If that was an opportunity to grab a two. I still probably go DeMarco. All right. Trending or ending with rookie sensations. All right, I'm going to give you three rookie names. We're going to go trending or ending. Jordan Howard was RB10 in 2016, Michael Thomas was the wide receiver 7 in 2016 and Dak Prescott was the QB6 in 2016. Trending or ending for those three players, where do you slot them for 2017? I know it's early.
Mike Wright
I'm going to. I'll start us off because I think it's trending on all three. That might be the easy thing to say because that's all we've ever seen from them is a top 10 performance. But here's the rationale for why I believe it will repeat on all three of those guys. If it wasn't for Ezekiel Elliott, Jordan Howard's rookie year would be talked about like crazy. But he wasn't the best rookie this year and so he's discounted a little bit and he didn't come in as the starter, but his year was exceptional. He was the second leading rusher in the NFL and he wasn't the starter the whole season. He was great. So why in the world would he. I mean, that was his doing 1300.
Jason Moore
Yards, 5.2 a carry, 6 touchdowns, 29.
Mike Wright
Receptions, with a pretty decent offensive line. That's young and going to be getting better. Michael Thomas has a Hall of Fame quarterback and another year under his belt. He's the guy of this list I would be the most concerned about personally, just because I think most people aren't. And you see with wide receivers sometimes if they, if they break out. Year one a regression Dak is like one of my favorite targets right now for next year. I think his consistency level at the quarterback is just unbelievable.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I love Dak as well, but it's, it's not all just Dak. I mean, that offensive line. Give me a quarterback who can just stand there for the majority of the game, gets hit very rarely, takes low amount of sacks because the offensive line is so great. I mean, you can, he can survey the field, then you throw in that he has one of the best wide receivers in the league in DEZ Bryant. I think that Dak will continue to be that efficient quarterback. You're not going to get the volume. You won't get that Matt Stafford bajillion attempts but I think that he will be very efficient with his with his attempt so you can he continues to be a high level that not top 3 but that nice middle of the pack QB1 yeah another thing just quickly.
Mike Wright
To throw out there on his past catchers. You know when you talk about receiving running backs I was blown away the other day to find out that the leader in the league for yards per reception yards per reception at running back was not Tevin Coleman was not the Freeman. Yeah Devonta Freeman were not these guys who had it was Ezekiel Elliott was the number one yards per reception at running back so he can break them big for Dak as well.
Jason Moore
All right. I would lean trending for all three if I had to rank them. Like you know I'm betting my house and I need to pick one guy to stay trending. It's actually Michael Thomas for me.
Andy Holloway
Right.
Jason Moore
I think I have most confidence in Thomas than I would go Howard. Then I'm gonna go Dak. I would not be surprised to see a small regression from Dak in terms of fantasy consistency because nothing was prolific in the numbers. It was just kind of a conglomeration of consistency across the numbers. So if dak ended up QB 13 or 14 next year I really would be surprised. He might be a better he might be just fine as a real life quarterback, maybe not as a fantasy. But that's just my opinion. If I had to handicap those three.
Andy Holloway
My worries for Jordan Howard are unfortunately for they're not Jordan Howard related. They are. They are the past trends of what has happened for running backs like this you had a couple years ago Jeremy Hill the monster monster breakout completely fell apart. Todd Gurley monster breakout on a bad team fell apart. Jordan Howard monster breakout. Now the Bears are they're not a good team. Not yet. They don't even have a quarterback at this time. Can he continue? I mean watching him you have to think he can. He just he looked like such a beast, such a powerful man.
Jason Moore
18Th ranked offensive line according to PFF.
Andy Holloway
Yeah and that's so that's not elite.
Jason Moore
That's not top half terrible really. So.
Andy Holloway
So I have my. I don't want to have concerns about Jordan Howard but unfortunately because of recent history that's that's digging into my opinions of him.
Jason Moore
Yeah. All right. Trending or ending the decline of Cam Newton he went to QB19. Will he keep trending downwards or will that end and he'll return to a QB1 level next season because that's really what people need to know.
Andy Holloway
So Cam Newton, man, Cam Newton is so interesting of his numbers. So you had the MVP season. His numbers were not that different than his career. His passing yards that year, I mean they, they weren't even the highest of his career, 3,800. However, 35 passing touchdowns before then, his career high was. Was 24. So he took a massive outlier leap up into the mid-30s. You pack on top of that that he had 10 rushing touchdowns when he had been averaging. He had five before that in 2014, six in 2013. He just, he's not a great passer. I mean his completion percentage for his career is 58.4. If you took that completion percentage and you took away or you just gave that to another starting quarterback for. We have six years of data now for Cam Newton, that quarterback will be out of a job. Now luckily, Cam Newton is a great football player and can run and can do all these other things. But as a passer he has to improve. He has to improve these mechanics. He relies so much on his athletic freak ability of. Well, I'm falling over backwards. I'm just going to lob it up in the air because I can. Unless I see that improvement of the passing. I just, I think that it. This is what we expect from Cam Newton where if you track his actual QB1 performances. Why I was concerned about him two years ago because he was either QB1 or he was garbage. He just. He would boom or he would absolutely destroy your team. So that's why I expect from Cam Newton moving forward.
Jason Moore
All right, so you're a. The trend of Cam Newton being a lower tier quarterback.
Andy Holloway
It's just a quarterback is what you believe. I don't want. Maybe the end of season numbers are okay for Cam, but I just. I'm off.
Jason Moore
I want to pause real quick. I don't know if you guys saw this yet. I just wanted to throw it out there. It's always fun. Mel Kuiper's draft mock draft 2.0 came out some interesting picks here. You had Fournette going to the jets at six.
Mike Wright
What?
Jason Moore
Well ahead of Dalvin Cook. No, he actually has Dalvin cook going at 15 on Washington.
Andy Holloway
I don't mind that. But just the jets with the money invested in Powell and Forte and the other needs.
Jason Moore
Mike Williams to Philly to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Andy Holloway
That would make sense.
Jason Moore
They actually had Sean Watson to Buffalo and he has Mitch, good old Mitch Trubisky to San Francisco at number two. So some interesting. It's always even when you start hearing names with teams we're going to get into all the rookies obviously down the line here. But kind of interesting to see.
Mike Wright
Yes, I'm rising on Deshaun Watson.
Jason Moore
Oh, really, really happy man.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Jason Moore
It's funny because I think he could.
Mike Wright
Go to number two.
Jason Moore
I'm probably going slightly the opposite direction just because of. Not because of now after hearing you're rising just because I'm worried about him staying healthy in the NFL but otherwise I think the talents there, I just don't know if he'll be able to.
Mike Wright
I see him as a better version of Teddy Bridgewater and so I think health, obviously health is nowhere trending or ending.
Jason Moore
Trending or ending. Jeremy Hill. Here's the trend for Jeremy Hill. 2014, he was the RB10. 2015 he was the RB15. 2016 he was the RB22. So the question is simple. Will he keep trending downwards? You're moving. If this trend continues, you're talking about a running back three next year at best.
Mike Wright
I don't think it does. I'm going to say that the trend is bucked here. Now that's assuming that they come back next year with GEO and Jeremy Hill. Obviously new information like them going out and drafting a running back, they'll sign.
Jason Moore
Somebody for sure because Rex Burkhead's a free agent. So though they bring him back or sign some name that makes people scared and might drop. Drop position of.
Mike Wright
Right. But Jeremy Hill, I'm saying if they use, you know, a second round draft pick on a, on a running back whereas, you know, okay, you're saying investing and it makes a move. I don't think that Jeremy Hill is going to continue his downward trajectory. His opportunities are great and we saw this year he was, you know, he played through a lot of injury and had to because GEO was gone, didn't look quite the same. But I don't believe that he continues trending downward to an RB3. I think his value, his ADP will continue traveling downward and I think the value that you could get if you can get a Jeremy Hill later, which I think finally we're going to be able to get him late. I'm talking, you know, after the fifth round. The value of a guy who gets the, gets the work near the goal line is valuable. Last year I talked about, you know, LeGarrett blunt when you've got the opportunity.
Jason Moore
Is he the new Joy Bell two straight years of under four carry? No, because it's the goal Line.
Mike Wright
Well, I guess let's ask. Do you love him?
Jason Moore
No.
Mike Wright
Then he's not the new Joy Bell.
Jason Moore
Here's the thing that's interesting to add to your point. I think your point's spot on. I think there's every chance that he could be a top 20 running back. I don't think he's prolific. I don't think He's a running back one. But he's been nine, 11 and nine touchdowns because who else is going to score? I mean, Andy Dalton, A.J. green, that connection will be back next year. I mean, it's kind of crazy. Jeremy hills had exactly 222 or 223 carries all three years in the league. That's what he gets. He certainly didn't do what he did year one the last couple of years, but I think he's a top 20 guy. I'd put him at 17, 18.
Andy Holloway
He had. And he had 62 and a half percent of the rushing touches from inside the five. That puts him at 16th. So which is. That's actually kind of surprising for me. He had how many total? He had 15 total carries inside. So he'll be a touchdown guy. But if he can't improve that vision and get those happy feet under control, that's.
Jason Moore
Where would Jeremy Hill be if he didn't play Cleveland this year? Twice. That's what I want to know. That his Cleveland game was bananas.
Mike Wright
Nine for 168 and a touchdown.
Jason Moore
He didn't. I mean, his two Cleveland games are his only two 100 yard games of the year. Okay, that's it.
Andy Holloway
Well, what was he on the Broncos game?
Mike Wright
He got 97 yards because he torched.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, he torched him.
Jason Moore
He had a 50 yard carry.
Mike Wright
Well, look, over the course of the season, those don't. Mike, he was the running back 20 in half point scoring formats and he did not play in week 17 and barely played in week 16. So if you, if you factor all those things, he also.
Andy Holloway
He was. I feel like I'm apologist right now.
Mike Wright
Yeah, you always want to.
Andy Holloway
He, he was hurt.
Mike Wright
That's what I believe.
Jason Moore
Here's his yards per carry. Here's his yards per carry to start the year. If you don't count the Cleveland game. 1.1, 2.2, 1.4, 1.8. Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Okay, I retract my apologist.
Jason Moore
The thing that's tough about him is he, he has the ability with. If Geo's active, you know, Jeremy Hill could get 25 carries or he could get like six carries because if it's not going the right way for him. They'll just ride Geo. So risk, right? I mean, there's always risk with a guy who finishes around that 15 to 20 range. So we're gonna do one more trending or ending? And then I want to get into the mailbag for a few questions today. Let's go with this one here. Trending or ending? Tyreek Hill, he was. And the trend is this. From weeks nine through 17, he was the wide receiver 10 in fantasy football. So a top 12 wide receiver, the ability to get you, you know, he had receiving totals obviously, but he also, you know, he had a 10 reception game, but he also had games with no receptions that he in the special teams game or in the running game on limited snaps, did a lot of work. So I know we've talked about it a little bit, but he'll be a very interesting debate all off season. So I'm curious where you guys stand now. You know, now that I know that Jason is capable of changing his opinion with this DeSean William Watson news, I'm ready for him to tell me he's all about Tyreek Hill.
Mike Wright
All right. You do me a what?
Jason Moore
You want some diary?
Mike Wright
Sure. Oh, dear diary, I have said some slightly disparaging things about Tyreek Hill.
Andy Holloway
You're a hurtful man, Jason.
Mike Wright
I think he is an extraordinarily talented fast player.
Jason Moore
Oh, great.
Mike Wright
But I'm not taking back any of what I said because Tyree Kill still is a wide receiver who doesn't catch the ball much. What?
Jason Moore
That's ridiculous.
Mike Wright
What do you mean that's ridiculous?
Jason Moore
10, 4, 9, 5, 6.
Mike Wright
Those. That little stretch was when Jeremy Macklin was gone. So yes, sure.
Jason Moore
All right.
Mike Wright
When he was the wide receiver one, he caught the ball a lot. I can give you plenty of ones and twos and zeros.
Jason Moore
I do think that it's possible Kansas City drafts a fairly, you know, like a wide receiver in the first three rounds, which I'm sure will distort.
Mike Wright
Look, if you get special team scoring in your format, then I will love Tyree Kill. But if you don't, I'm not going to put. His draft stock is just soaring right now and I'm not going to waste it on a guy that has so many of his plays rely on the big home round, home run, touchdown and you know, special teamwork. And you know, he was near the top in total yards, you know, on the season, like all purpose yards. And I think he was over 1800, but his actual receiving yards were like 500.
Andy Holloway
Let me put Mike, I'll give you some numbers on Tyree Kill real quick.
Jason Moore
I was going to ask you as well.
Andy Holloway
Tied.
Jason Moore
The guy's going behind him tied for 55th.
Andy Holloway
55Th is in targets 42nd for receptions.
Jason Moore
This is all great.
Andy Holloway
No, that, Tim. No, to me.
Jason Moore
That he finished wide receiver 10 right. In the second half of the year with those numbers.
Mike Wright
It's because he wasn't doing wide receiver.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I mean we, we're looking at the exact same data just differently. I, Jason and I are looking at it from that unsustainable situation and you're looking at it as well. If his targets and receptions go up, then he automatically improves and becomes.
Mike Wright
But he's not this great route running wide receiver.
Jason Moore
That he's a very. I think you guys are being very. And you can bend it either way you want, but he's 40% of the offensive snaps on the year and ends up wide receiver 10. He wasn't even starting. You said. Right. Okay. When he was a starting wide receiver without Macklin. Look what he did.
Mike Wright
Yeah, he's.
Jason Moore
Andy Reid's come out and said he, he wants him to be a starting wide receiver and he's going to get the ball in the end around.
Mike Wright
Well, I meant the, the one.
Jason Moore
I don't. I just think the effectiveness is going to be there. But, but, but I'm going to say all this and I'm going to take it all away. I'm going to take every bit of it away because I'm not drafting Tyree Kill where he's going right now. Holy moly.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Jason Moore
Here's who he's going ahead of in current adp. Brandon Cooks, Sammy Watkins, Alan Robinson, Doug Baldwin, Alshon Jeffrey, Michael Crabtree, Demaryius Thomas, Jarvis Landry. He's going in the third round.
Andy Holloway
That won't happen. But he's going to be.
Jason Moore
Oh, you could get that offseason buzz. Any Reed comes out and says, you know what? Tyree kills a starter and you will love it.
Andy Holloway
He's going to fall in with that.
Jason Moore
I will love it.
Andy Holloway
The nebulous fourth round crew where everyone in there is just in a murky muck.
Mike Wright
Not if I have anything to do with it.
Andy Holloway
What are you going to push him down?
Mike Wright
I'm going to push him where he should be in.
Andy Holloway
Further down into the muck.
Mike Wright
Yeah, he should be, you know, sixth round draft pick.
Jason Moore
Yes. Yeah. Okay. All right, look, well, trending or ending, I think he's on the way up. I think he can sustain what he did last year a different way. I'M not expecting three return touchdowns. I'm expecting a snap count that isn't under 50% for the offense.
Andy Holloway
I'm not even factoring in his special teams because I think that most people.
Jason Moore
What's his count next year on offense, Mike? 40%.
Andy Holloway
This past year, I put him at 60. I'll put him in the 60s.
Jason Moore
Okay. And his efficiency will go down more than 33%.
Mike Wright
Yes.
Jason Moore
Okay. Obviously you do. Obviously.
Andy Holloway
It's like you always Foot Clan.
Jason Moore
Weigh in. Weigh in on Twitter. I'd love to know what you guys think about Tyreek Hill.
Andy Holloway
And you compare them to the optimal situation. I mean, that's.
Jason Moore
We all, we all just talked about this.
Andy Holloway
What I'm saying, you look at, you're like, well, desean Jackson does it. Desean Jackson's like the only guy who continues to do it for that. The player of that size and that speed. So it's, it's not a fair.
Mike Wright
Yeah, you've had other guys. You know, Percy Harvin's done it, but. But he couldn't ever do it year after year after year, Right?
Jason Moore
Well, because he was hurt.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Because he was small.
Jason Moore
No, because he was hurt.
Mike Wright
Okay.
Andy Holloway
He was hurt because he was hurt.
Jason Moore
I don't consider Percy Harvin small, by the way. He's not Tyreek Hill small. I mean, Percy Harvin.
Andy Holloway
Harvin was thick.
Jason Moore
I mean, what, you think Tyreek's coming down with a bunch of migraines, Jason, to derail his career?
Mike Wright
No, but I do think that a small guy is more injury prone in the NFL, and I think Tyreek Hill is a small guy.
Jason Moore
All right, Tell that Darren Sprols years of.
Mike Wright
I love the outliers, man. The outliers are great.
Jason Moore
All small guys get injured.
Mike Wright
No, smaller guys are easier to injure to get injured.
Jason Moore
I think. I think what it comes down here is that if we talk for the next two hours on Tyree Kill, you'll come up with 200 different narratives that lean your direction, and I'll come up with 200 lean mine, and I'll be right at the end of it. So let's go ahead and jump in the mailbag.
Mike Wright
Mailbag.
Jason Moore
They'll probably draft a wide receiver in the first round and ruin it all for me. So. All right, mailbag. If you have a question, go to the website, click the questions tab, the fantasy footballers.com, or leave us a voicemail question at 302-464-TFFB. We love answering foot clank questions. It's always fun. We love hearing Mike, you know, drop the mailbag. Drop every single day.
Andy Holloway
Oh, yes.
Mike Wright
All right. Just to throw this out there for your sake. It's funny because I'm, I'm mocking Tyree Kill. You know, he's 510, 185, same size as Percy Harvey. Antonio Brown is 510, 186.
Jason Moore
Yeah, because. Because there's a lot of small guys in the NFL.
Andy Holloway
Much different game.
Jason Moore
What is.
Mike Wright
Yes.
Andy Holloway
Antonio Brown's game versus Tyree Kills game.
Jason Moore
Identical. Absolutely the exact same. I honestly, I look at them and I say, you know what's funny? You know Antonio Brown.
Andy Holloway
No, I know he wasn't a special teams guy. I mean, he was not Antonio Brown for years.
Jason Moore
I'm not actually comparing them, but the fact that they're both. Antonio Brown made a lot of hay in the return game early in his career. Just saying that. All right, David Ogden, who should he keep in his keeper league scoring format is full point per reception. A.J. green or the slippery fish, Lashawn McCoy.
Mike Wright
Ooh.
Jason Moore
A.J. green in a full PPR league. A.J. green or Lashawn McCoy? As of today, I don't know.
Mike Wright
I wanted a lot of help.
Jason Moore
Oh, man, that is brutal. I'm going to take A.J. green.
Andy Holloway
I'm going to take A.J. green as well. The full PPR just, it pushes him over the edge. A.J. green should be a, you know, 90 to 100 reception type of guy. And then you add in the the double digits. Last year we loved AJ Green because he was. He had never, never been under a thousand receiving yards in his entire career. Injury derailed that he almost got there. But I think the AJ Green is back next year to what he, what we expected.
Mike Wright
Yeah, and that would be unanimous for me as well because I just think about my early season draft rankings and AJ Green is ahead of LaShawn McCoy, so makes it easy.
Jason Moore
Here's a question from Matt in Chicago. Did you guys ever post the consistency rankings that were used for your truth episode? I'd love to see what you guys saw. A piece of that puzzle that you can refer to is an article by Tristan Cockroft on espn. That was a piece of what we talked about with the consistency level. So I would look at that article. I think we talked about maybe posting the consistency pages, but I would just look there. That'll make it easy. Keeper question from Eric in Lawrence, Kansas. He says can keep two from last year. He's keeping Michael Thomas for the 10th rounder.
Mike Wright
It's a good. It's a good one.
Jason Moore
Delicious. For my second keeper do I keep Julio for a first rounder, Ingram for a third, Crabtree for a seventh or Malcolm Mitchell or Paul Perkins for the 18th? That is a tough question for me because I, I'm going to tell you right now, I am tempted to say Paul Perkins for free.
Andy Holloway
For free.
Jason Moore
It's all right. Now it's looking like Paul Perkins has a clear shot at first. Second down, roll, maybe more.
Andy Holloway
I think the Giants are going to grab someone, but as of right now.
Jason Moore
My Dynasty team completely disagrees with right now.
Andy Holloway
The information we have is Paul Perkins is in line for me. The tougher question is, so we're in a PPR situation. The tougher question for me is do you just take Julio? Do you take that top three wide receiver?
Jason Moore
You already have the value on Thomas, so you can spin that earlier.
Andy Holloway
Cap your first, whatever. You would take him in the first regardless.
Jason Moore
Sure.
Andy Holloway
But Crabtree in the seventh in a PPR situation is. I mean, that's tempting. I'm going to take Julio. I'm just.
Jason Moore
Okay.
Andy Holloway
I'm not going to mess around. I'm going to go.
Jason Moore
Don't blame me for that. Jason, where do you side?
Mike Wright
Yeah, I've been rolling through my head the different trade options. Like, okay, if I, if I kept Paul PERKINS in the first, let's say who would be. Or for the 18th, who would be a wide receiver available, you know, after keepers in the first, would I trade them? And I think at the end of it, I still want Julio. Julio is a true difference maker. So I'd go Julio and Michael Thomas.
Jason Moore
Yeah. And let you know that's the right pick. If things really trended Perkins way before the season, I'd be tempted because I'd already have Michael Thomas. But Dynasty trade question. Chris in Montreal.
Mike Wright
Oh, bonjour.
Jason Moore
Oh, I love that he doesn't drop the Bonjour in the one place where they actually speak French because then it.
Andy Holloway
Would not be a funny joke.
Jason Moore
Which side do you take in this dynasty trade? Devonta Freeman and Eric Decker and will tie. Who by the way, today signed a one year contract? Devonta Freeman, Eric Decker and will tie or Michael Thomas, Zach Ertz and Paul Perkins. Michael Thomas, Zach Ertz and Paul in a dynasty league. I'm taking that side. I'm taking the Michael Thomas, Zachary, Paul Perkins side.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I agree.
Andy Holloway
I don't want to give up Freeman.
Jason Moore
Oh, he got the Thomas side of the deal.
Andy Holloway
But I, yeah, it Thomas. Oh, and I glossed over Ertz there.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Mike Wright
Oh, yeah, look, all three of those are young, upward trending players. And, you know, for the tight end and the wide receiver, you've got much more longevity there than the best player on the other side of the trade, which is a running back into Bonds, Freeman. I love Devonta Freeman. I've been trying to get him. But you have, I think the better players and the better longevity. Yeah, definitely the Michael Thomas side.
Jason Moore
All right, Multiple league question from Christian in Los Angeles. He says, how do you guys manage being in more than one league simultaneously as it presents a few issues like owning OBJ in one league and your opponent having him in another league. Do you draft to go after similar players in each league to keep things consistent or do you just grab whoever and hope for the best? I certainly have a couple contributions to this answer, but what do you guys think?
Andy Holloway
I go with the strategy of I generally grab whoever I grab the best for my draft strategy.
Jason Moore
I'm guessing that ends up being the same player frequently.
Andy Holloway
It will end up being a handful of players on the same teams. But I get it, man, it's rough when you are so jubilant yet so destroyed when a player scores a touchdown. And then you get in those really funny, precarious situations where, okay, I need. I need Odell Beckham to score between 15 and 17 points so I can win in both leagues.
Jason Moore
But it's.
Andy Holloway
It's just something that you have to deal with.
Mike Wright
Yeah. At the draft you're. You're drafting for your best team. That's. That's it. In every league. Draft the best you can. Don't go out of your way to say, I want the same guys.
Jason Moore
Here's a. Before we close out the show today and start packing up for the new studio. For the new studio, I'm gonna give you guys a pop quiz. Very interesting. The Dallas Cowboys gave up the second fewest QB pressures in the league this year. There's one team that gave up less QB pressures. Do you guys know who that is?
Mike Wright
The Raiders.
Jason Moore
No. And I ask it like this because it's not obvious.
Andy Holloway
Oh, because it's not obvious.
Jason Moore
Not obvious.
Andy Holloway
And I would need a list of teams to go through. So I.
Jason Moore
Nothing. Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Eagles offensive line give up less QB pressures than even Dallas. They were second ranked offensive line. They could not do what Dallas did in the run blocking game.
Andy Holloway
Right.
Jason Moore
But it's interesting when you look at the success and growth of Carson Wentz. The future. Yeah. So anyways, that's it for today's show. Thank you for tuning in.
