Jason Moore
To the Fantasy Footballers podcast.
Andy Holloway
It is Tuesday, February 24th. And this is the Fantasy Footballers podcast. I am Andy Holloway and you hear Mike the fantasy hitman, right. Laughing.
Mike Wright
You were just so intense with the date. You were excited for February the 24th.
Andy Holloway
It is the 24th of February. This is the second time we recorded the intro to the show because I didn't have your guys's microphones on. I'm joined also with Jason Moore. Say hello, Jason.
Jason Moore
Can you hear me now?
Andy Holloway
Yeah. You still have a grin on your face. Why are you smiling?
Jason Moore
Well, because it is 65 days until the NFL draft.
Andy Holloway
Hurrah. I like, I like that we don't even like. It's not 65 till the start of like the season or the fantasy football draft. It's just the NFL draft and that's, that's just fine for us.
Mike Wright
The draft is extremely exciting for, for me. I, I have, I've learned to really appreciate the combine. I don't necessarily sit down and watch the combine, but I do, I monitor all the news that's coming in.
Andy Holloway
It is exciting and I will admit I have. It is a year round sport.
Mike Wright
Not this year, but in years past I've sat down and I've watched it and it's almost like watching golf. I don't know if you've ever watched golf on tv.
Jason Moore
I have not.
Andy Holloway
I have watched a lot of golf.
Mike Wright
But there's just something relaxing. You're not, you're not watching it because it's super, highly entertaining. But it's just, you relax.
Andy Holloway
Nice to have on in the background.
Mike Wright
Yeah. And they, the, the announcers are a little more, they're calmer. They. And you can see now look at.
Andy Holloway
Him here, look at him here. He's approaching, he's approaching the broad jump.
Mike Wright
They, they in watching highly trained athletes watching people run really fast is I. There's something interesting about that when you just wish you could do it.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. The vicarious enjoyment of it.
Mike Wright
Did you watch the Rich run? Rich run?
Jason Moore
No, I didn't see it.
Andy Holloway
Oh, Rich Eisenhower.
Jason Moore
How do you do? What he come in?
Mike Wright
I think six one was his fastest. But they do the, I've seen him.
Andy Holloway
Do it in years past.
Mike Wright
They do the overlay, you know.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Of other athletes.
Mike Wright
They do the ghosts and they goes to this like 300 pound lineman who's faster than him. It's just, it's very funny. And you. Ah, that would suck. And then I'm sitting there realizing that the 300 pound lineman is also much faster than me.
Andy Holloway
I was Going to bring up the ghosting because when I saw Mariota and Winston go at it, that was very fun. It was pretty cool. It's pretty cool.
Mike Wright
Did you see Jason? Did you see it?
Jason Moore
I didn't see that. But my absolute favorite thing to do at the combine, which I had the pleasure to do this this year, was watch the offensive linemen in their sprints. There's nothing better than that. Just watching them struggle to even get down with their hand on the ground, like, you know, almost and then. And then burst off and, you know, jump around.
Andy Holloway
I just love the kind of hype around everything. I've heard Todd McShay come on a couple local radio shows, you know, for like 30 second spot because they want to talk to them and they're like, okay, which. Which of these drills gives you the most intangibles about the player? Which ones? You know, what do you learn about just the hyper analyzation of this? And we're no different because we're hosting a fantasy football podcast.
Mike Wright
I'm absorbing everything in the middle of.
Andy Holloway
February so you can visit us on the web atthe fantasy footballers.com and did you know we're going to have a new website launching here fairly soon?
Mike Wright
I knew that.
Andy Holloway
It should be pretty exciting. Not only will it have the podcasts and all the information about the podcast, but you'll be able to submit questions to us directly from the website. You'll be able to view our rankings for the upcoming fantasy football draft season, which is just plain exciting. And you'll be able to read articles, blog posts, those type of things. It's gonna be really exciting.
Mike Wright
Speaking of article, did you read, I think you're the. The latest article I put up on fantasy Pros Rose. I just had five questions that I wanted to, you know, just that people should be thinking about. I only bring this up because we talked about DeMarco Murray last week and how embarrassing the. The alleged contract offer was of 4 million. The 4 million a year?
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Mike Wright
So I'm doing a little research on this. What?
Andy Holloway
Digging in.
Mike Wright
What do you think Dan Bailey, the kicker, averages a year.
Jason Moore
I saw that.
Andy Holloway
I don't know about.
Mike Wright
Scared about 800,000 less than what they offered DeMarco Murray. So DeMarco Murray is not even worth a million dollars more to them than their kicker.
Andy Holloway
That, my friends, is brutal. Especially when you hear the current Marshawn lynch contract offers.
Mike Wright
Oh.
Jason Moore
Oh, man, they're nasty.
Andy Holloway
This just what you're saying about Darunka Murray, though, is confirming today we're going to Do a second running back roundtable podcast. So we're going to be talking about some more of the free agent running backs. Last week, we talked about some of the big guys like Murray Spiller, Ryan Matthews, Ingram Forset. So if you want to hear that, go ahead and download that podcast and listen to it in all of its February podcast glory. But what you're saying about Murray and what I'm hearing out of Minnesota just makes me think Adrian Peterson might be heading to Dallas.
Mike Wright
You got it locked.
Andy Holloway
I. Well, let's not overstate it, but I'm.
Mike Wright
Saying in your head, this is the.
Andy Holloway
In my head, I. It's. It's trending that way. You know, reading this, reading the signs, reading the weather formations, I'm thinking more and more that. Because last week I think I said I thought AP be back in Minnesota.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
But you know what?
Jason Moore
New and good.
Andy Holloway
Colin Coward says it all the time. New information means a new conclusion, a new. A new answer. So for me, I don't think. Yeah, like Jason said, it's not looking good, right?
Jason Moore
No. The whole Adrian Peterson situation is not looking good for it. No matter how you look at it, no matter what. Who. Whose team you're a fan of. It's just reading the tea leaves. There is. Every other day there's completely different reports, and every other day they're uglier and uglier. A fight between his agent and the. Yeah, the vp. I mean, that's. That's childish.
Andy Holloway
Just thinking about this, it's amazing. This is why the NFL is so fun, because two, you know, three. Three seasons ago, we had the great, arguably the greatest quarterback in the history of the NFL was soliciting offers from teams when Peyton Manning was available. And now you have the potential of. If AP was cut, one of the greatest running backs that the game has ever seen. Just being out there, both of them in their relative primes.
Jason Moore
So you're saying he's going. You're saying he's going to the Broncos?
Andy Holloway
No, I'm saying I remember how much fun it was to think that Peyton Manning would come here. And so I'm going to think the same thing about. I have Adrian Peterson.
Mike Wright
I have Adrian Peterson going to three or four teams.
Andy Holloway
I really hope he had a lockdown that he was coming to Arizona. That's what I just wanted to hear. My sources tell me it's a done deal.
Mike Wright
In my heart, that's. That's what's happening. I'm actually starting to lean more that DeMarco will go back to Dallas. I Don't know. And that's just, that's just gut call. I mean we don't. We're not getting enough information to really make an accurate choice. And what I am hearing about Adrian Peterson is the Vikings are not going to cut him. They're saying they refuse to cut him. Now here's the problem. He's saying he wants. He's demanding a trade essentially.
Andy Holloway
Will be.
Mike Wright
Yes, he will be.
Andy Holloway
That's the outcome of that, right?
Mike Wright
Yeah. Once he's reinstated, everything says he's going to force a trade. But because of his contract, he can't just be traded to anybody.
Andy Holloway
He would have to agree to.
Mike Wright
Exactly.
Andy Holloway
Which.
Mike Wright
Which means he can dictate which team he gets sent to because he could.
Andy Holloway
Then decide on his pay cut based on where they'll trade him.
Mike Wright
Exactly.
Andy Holloway
So he'll choose his destination.
Mike Wright
So realistically I have him going to Baltimore, Arizona or Indianapolis. I think that's the. Or Dallas. If Dallas. If DeMarco doesn't go back.
Andy Holloway
But that's your three or four.
Mike Wright
Those three. I really think it'll be one of those. When I was looking through a breakdown of how teams did last year, their kind of their future, are they really that good? And the one dark horse I had was the Chargers.
Andy Holloway
Jason, if you went to one of those four places, where's his fantasy value? The greatest.
Jason Moore
I think it's.
Andy Holloway
I guess we say. I guess we said Dallas last week. Right. So take Dallas out of the equation.
Jason Moore
Well, I was going to say Indianapolis. I think that just playing with Andrew Luck with the goal line options. Look at what Ahmad Bradshaw did last year when he was healthy. You put Adrian Peterson there, you in a. In a. On an offense that scores points. They're an offensive team. And that's where I want my running backs is I want them on high power offense. There's nothing wrong with Baltimore. I like their running back situation. I would like AP there, but I want the most points that the NFL team is going to put up and that's going to come from the Colts.
Andy Holloway
Another piece of breaking news. I don't know if either of you guys saw this. You hearing this Des, this Des talk, the radio talk.
Mike Wright
What's happening now?
Andy Holloway
What? Well, I don't think there's much to make of it, but I'm bringing it up because Mike Florio went on a local radio station and said that there is a DEZ Bryant video out there that is, quote, bad and that their team and others have known about for a couple of months. Yeah, the incident was him doing Something bad. Now he's come out and he's tweeted about it and said, well, it's obvious what's going on, right? You're trying to diminish his free agent value in terms of being re signed by Dallas. But one of these people said it was on the same level of impact of a Ray Rice type of impact if it hit publicly. So I don't know if it's true, but I was curious if either of you guys had heard about that.
Mike Wright
I have not heard about it, but I don't want to sit here and just crush people. But Mike Florio is the TMZ of professional sports reporting to me. And they. I've just. I've noticed a lot of inaccurate, salacious things being thrown up there and then just, oh, yeah, sorry, we were wrong. I mean, there's.
Andy Holloway
Well, we'll definitely find out if there's.
Mike Wright
A video that's this bad in this. In the world of the Internet, it's.
Jason Moore
Gonna go viral and multiple people have seen it.
Andy Holloway
Florio, here's what it says. All of the major insiders have known about this video for months, but for now, it remains out of the public eye.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I agree with the hitman.
Andy Holloway
You don't probably, but it is DEZ Bryant who has stayed out of trouble for a little while. But he. He still. I think he still owes some jewelry stores about three or four hundred thousand dollars. So always, you know, you hear these things and it does impact maybe the mood around a guy when it comes to draft season. So we'll see what happens. We'll see if TMZ is right on this one.
Mike Wright
We have a new free agent to add to the running back list to add to. Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Who's that?
Mike Wright
D'Angelo Williams.
Andy Holloway
Oh, that's right.
Mike Wright
He's been informed he will be cut or something of that.
Andy Holloway
He's already come out and. And yelled at the team too. Did you see that?
Mike Wright
No. Yeah.
Andy Holloway
He said that they abandoned him during his mother's death last year. Oh, that. So I don't know if that's sour grapes.
Jason Moore
Yeah. The only person from. From the entire organization that was. Was there. Do you know who was. Was at the mother's funeral?
Mike Wright
No.
Jason Moore
Hardy.
Andy Holloway
No way.
Mike Wright
Really?
Andy Holloway
No way. Now that's. That's funny. He's a free agent too, right?
Mike Wright
Yeah, he is.
Andy Holloway
Wow. Yeah, that's. That is the modern NFL. You are good until you're not and then you're gone. And that's why I think, Mike, you agree with this. We don't really Blame the players for holding out for this money.
Mike Wright
No. And what's funny.
Andy Holloway
So funny, the double standard. It exists.
Mike Wright
What's funny about this is if you talk to me 10 years ago, I'm the guy who's. Like, when players, they signed a big contract in two years, they want a new one. I'm the guy who's. Oh, shut up. You got your money. You know, you signed the contract. But I'm completely on. I'm on board with players generally, I would say 98% of the time, where you get your money, you take it when you can. What you're. What you are trading for the. The cash payout of your. Your body, your mind. You need to get whatever you can possibly get.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I agree. And pretty much the only situation now that I really don't like is that guy that's two years out from his contract being up, wanting to hold out and get that extension. That's a little. Yeah, that's a little much to me. But let's go and get into some of these running backs. Do you guys want to talk a little bit about. We already talked about AP. We'd already talked about DeMarco a little bit. What's the latest you're hearing about Marshawn Lynch? Jason?
Jason Moore
Marshawn lynch has been offered all of the money that is in Washington.
Andy Holloway
The world. All the money's in the world.
Jason Moore
All of the monies are there. So he's clearly either going back to Washington or retiring. Those are the only. I mean, obviously he's possibly going to walk.
Andy Holloway
Don't get any of the Redskins fans excited, okay?
Jason Moore
He's possibly going to walk away because of his back, because of some of those injuries, but I think he comes back. I mean, Marshawn likes to not do the off season as much, and I think that he's just going to take his time and be a little different and then sign a giant contract and come back and run a bunch of touchdowns in.
Andy Holloway
Did you see he just trademarked the phrase. What is it? I'm just here.
Mike Wright
Oh, did he?
Andy Holloway
So I don't get fined.
Mike Wright
He's. He is a businessman, really smart businessman. With all the. Wearing the Beast Mode gear, then that's flaring up that he's gonna get fined, which just makes people more aware of the Beast Mode gear. And Skittles. Yeah, his deal with Skittles. That commercial was amazing. I read somewhere that the Beast Mode sales are through the roof for his gear, which. That doesn't surprise me. I think he's awesome. I think the Gear is awesome. What's killing me about Marshawn lynch is me personally. I have a decision to make the day after the draft. Do I lock in and keep Marshawn lynch for my fantasy keeper team, or do I move on to Jeremy Hill and keep him instead? Yeah, I need a decision, Marsh.
Andy Holloway
I think you'll find out.
Mike Wright
I need to know.
Andy Holloway
Let me ask you guys this and be bold. If Marshawn lynch returns to Seattle, he finishes as the number.
Mike Wright
Where did I have him? I think four.
Andy Holloway
Running back.
Mike Wright
I think I had him at four. Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Jason.
Jason Moore
Five. Top five.
Andy Holloway
Top five. Obviously, if he's. If he's getting paid 11, $12 million, they're gonna keep focusing on him. So no reason to believe otherwise. Unless his body breaks down or you get something like that. Next question for you two gentlemen. Is Shady McCoy coming back to Philadelphia because it does not sound like he wants to take a pay cut.
Mike Wright
Yeah, it's really a unique circumstance up in Philadelphia where, where Chip Kelly, he's already demonstrated he has a track record of he'll get rid of you if he thinks your salary is too bloated.
Andy Holloway
Are you saying that because of desean Jackson?
Mike Wright
Exactly. You have a guy who had a career year and Chip Kelly said, yeah, that's okay, we'll just let you go and then you can sign with the division rival. We really don't care.
Andy Holloway
It's the offense. It's not the player. Kind of.
Mike Wright
Well, he believes in his offense. I think he wants good players because all this noise of they're gonna do everything they can to get Mariota into the fold up in Philadelphia. So the problem with Shane McCoy is he's owed a ton of money. They had production from Sprouls. They like Chris Polk, they like him to score touchdowns. Despite all those fantasy players being enraged when Chris Polk comes in at the two yard line. So the. The wood. It would not. What's the word?
Andy Holloway
Surprise.
Mike Wright
That'll work. It will not surprise me if Shady is moved. And I think it would be more of a trade situation to improve firepower to move up in the draft because I don't think some people are saying Mariota might slip. I don't think he's fallen past six.
Andy Holloway
Anything to add to that?
Jason Moore
Yeah, I think that the reason that desean Jackson was gone was an attitude thing as much as the money. And I think Lashawn McCoy, he's come out and he said he's open to a restructure. He doesn't want a straight cut, but he's open to restructuring So I think they'll be able to bring him back. His production was really good. Fantasy owners are very upset with his production because almost solely because of how incredible it was the year before. And so he's a great back. He's good. He's a perfect fit for their system. They like him, they want him back, they can afford him and he's willing to restructure. Think it's a done deal that he's an Eagle.
Mike Wright
Okay, I have a question about restructuring, which this is a legitimate question because I don't know the answer. Why would you not restructure a contract? Because all they're doing is moving money that you may get later and saying, okay, you can have that money right now.
Andy Holloway
I don't think that's the only thing that's involved in a restructure though. I think some of it will come across, you're saying because they include a signing bonus and then they move money.
Mike Wright
Back, they turn money into signing bonus and then they, I guess they turn some back end into things like performance based bonuses.
Andy Holloway
And the number of years on the deal, does that ever change?
Mike Wright
I mean, years in NFL contracts don't really mean anything though. It's all about that signing bonus and guaranteed money.
Andy Holloway
I think it ends up just being a leverage play for a lot of players as to when they will most likely hit free agency again or be able to get another.
Mike Wright
Right. But I'm saying. So it benefits the player.
Andy Holloway
It can. As long as you agree to the right restructure. If you agree to the restructure that the team wants, it might not. So I think that's the negotiation.
Mike Wright
All right, that's fair.
Andy Holloway
All right, so let's talk about some of these. We're moving on to some of these middle tier, maybe lower tier running back, free agents, but guys that I think in the fantasy world we should be looking at. Can these guys be sleepers? Talking about Shane Vereen, Steven Ridley, Roy Helou, couple guys like McFadden, Moreno, even Anton Smith who flashed about, I don't know, six, six big plays last year. I'm curious what you guys think about the pair of New England Patriots running backs. I don't think either will be back. That's my opinion. But Jason, you got some thoughts on Chamberine?
Jason Moore
I know that Shane Vereen is. I had a big man crush on him two years ago and man, the opening of that season was proven so.
Andy Holloway
Right.
Jason Moore
And then he got injured and was out and I didn't know where to go.
Andy Holloway
But.
Jason Moore
But his ability. Yeah.
Mike Wright
Two years ago and you snaked him from me.
Jason Moore
Yes, I did hit the hitman and I love his ability as a pass catcher and I really desperately want him to go to Baltimore. Seems like four sets going to be out in my opinion. There's teams that are aggressively wanting four set. Atlanta's been talking about four set as being, you know, someone that they're really after. And if someone is really after him, I don't think Baltimore is. So if Shane Vereen goes to that role and the Mark Tressman check down ability with that offensive line, I think Vereen could be a beast there. So that's, that's, you know, I think.
Andy Holloway
Where he lands is give me stats for beast.
Jason Moore
Beast would be 80 catches and several caught touchdowns. I would say five touchdowns in the air.
Andy Holloway
That's 30 more catches than he's ever had in his career.
Jason Moore
Well, he's missed a lot of games.
Andy Holloway
Potential there in Baltimore.
Jason Moore
I think that if he played, you know, 16, 16 games on a, on a team that was getting him the rock in the air, I think he could catch 100.
Andy Holloway
I guess we saw, we saw Rice produce in the passing game there for years.
Mike Wright
Yeah. But new, new coordinator, I'm going to.
Andy Holloway
Give you another name. Danny Woodhead. Okay. Danny Woodhead and Shane Vereen remind me a lot of each other in the way that New England's treating the situation. Scat back useful for them. I don't think there's any reason vereem wants like 4 or 5 million a year. That's where his negotiating beginning is. So I don't think he's back in New England. He had his career year last year with 96 carries for 391 yards and then the 52 catches with 447 yards. I just don't get excited about Shane Vereen personally.
Mike Wright
I agree with Jason where if he goes into the right situation where he's actually going to get more snaps, more targets that he can produce, I think his ceiling would be a low level RB2.
Andy Holloway
Okay, I agree with you now.
Mike Wright
Yeah, that'd be where I would draft him and how I felt about him. But, but at the same time you, he does have an explosion factor where he could break out.
Andy Holloway
He's, he's only 25 years old.
Mike Wright
Right. He has the potential to exceed where what, what my expectations are. Unlike a guy where, you know, you draft him, he's gonna, you think he's a low level RB2 and that's the highest he can get.
Andy Holloway
I like his potential to be more consistent even if he put up the Same numbers. Right. And he's wherever he lines up in the fantasy draft order at least. I feel like if he went somewhere else, he's got the opportunity to be a consistent week to week guy. Where? New England. Those running backs are such a rotation. There's such a game by game game plan situation. Baltimore, I agree, is a pretty good landing spot for him. What about the other, the torn ACL over there? He's only 26 years old. Steven Ridley, Torres ACL in October. They say he's ahead of schedule on his rehab because every person who shares their ACL is ahead of schedule. Rehab.
Mike Wright
We need to readjust this schedule.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, but he won't be back in New England, right?
Mike Wright
No, no, he's. He's gone. You guys know that I'm a big Steven Ridley guy. I think he is a tremendous power back. He does have a problem holding on here. You know, maybe his problem is he cannot hold on to a deflated ball.
Jason Moore
Too squishy.
Andy Holloway
That's his issue. Poor Steven Ridley. Everyone else benefits from it. And. And Ridley's in the doghouse.
Mike Wright
There's. There's something going on.
Andy Holloway
Maybe that's why Belichick so mad every time. And he. And he sits him out. He's like, we deflated the ball for you. What are you doing?
Mike Wright
But, but Ridley, I believe in his talent. If he can hold on the ball or go somewhere where they're not just going to murder his confidence every single time he has a fumble, I. Steven Ridley to Indianapolis makes a ton of sense to me.
Andy Holloway
I agree with that. That's. That's. He's a powerback. He runs the type of. He reminds me, honestly, a lot of the ferocity that Bradshaw brought to that offense where he doesn't go down on first or second hit like Trent Richardson. Trent Richardson goes down, he's like, ahead of time.
Mike Wright
He's a power back with no power.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Jason Moore
Who also waits to be hit. He doesn't, you know, seek a hit. He waits at the line of scrimmage.
Andy Holloway
Man, the tables have turned on him.
Mike Wright
Yeah, that's.
Andy Holloway
I remember. You drafted him. He scored 12 touchdowns.
Mike Wright
Yeah. One point.
Andy Holloway
Tricked us all into thinking he was half decent, but he just was. Lindell White. Don't.
Mike Wright
Don't chase touchdowns, people.
Jason Moore
The problem I see with Steven Ridley is the market. This is such a good year for running backs. There's so many free agents, there are so many running back rookies coming in that are.
Andy Holloway
You're saying it's diluted?
Jason Moore
Yeah, I'm saying, why would you go After Steven Ridley who you don't know if he's going to be healthy. And I think when you do sign Ridley you're going to sign him cheap. And you're not signing him to bring him into a big role. You're signing him to hold on to him for a year or have a, a maybe, you know, come back guy.
Andy Holloway
So I from a San Francisco.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I could work maybe.
Andy Holloway
Depends on how they pull out of the hat.
Jason Moore
He would be behind Carlos Hyde there. So I think from a fantasy perspective I'm not very high on Steven Ridley.
Andy Holloway
Well, ACL concern too. You're talking a one year deal for Steven Ridley no matter where he's going. I think it's a one year deal for like one or two million dollars. And I was going to say I.
Mike Wright
Bet It's a one year, $3 million deal, maybe a team option on there. But it's going to be really short term no matter where he goes.
Andy Holloway
All right, let's talk about another guy who's only 26 years old. He hails from the capital. Roy hello Junior. I believe that's true. Roy hello Junior played behind in that scat back role for Alfred Morris. He was a two minute offense guy. He was a third down back. Really has come on in terms of. He kind of reminds me of Ingram a little bit and not as a player but in a career arc because his first couple years were just meh. And you thought he might flame out. He was also super injury prone those first two years. Achilles injury, some other injuries. But he's actually played 14 of 16 games last two years. I think he comes back to Washington myself. Interesting. I think they need him. I do not think Alfred Morris is the only guy he can. He can run back there and hello offered them a lot. But what do you guys think about Roy hello Does he have fantasy value next year if he switches teams? If he stays.
Jason Moore
I think that if he switches teams and someone were to go after him. He's incredibly talented. He's way more talented than what you've seen. But because what I was just talking about about the market, I think he stays. I think he ends up just sticking home and being the same thing he's always been in Washington. But I know that Mr. Hello is someone you want to talk about.
Mike Wright
Mike, I. I like Hilu. Hello. Whatever. I like him a lot. Mr. Roy, what was it? I said I was a Roy boy last week.
Andy Holloway
That's right.
Mike Wright
Someone was calling me out like hey Roy boy. Wait, what? I like him. I like his potential to Be a late round sleeper next year or this year. It depends on his landing spot. Of course. I don't think he's back in Washington. It makes sense for the scheme. They Washington, they want a Gio Bernard type guy and you have that with Roy Helou. It's just the. How much money does. Does he think he can get? And the guy. It would obviously small sample size, but 40 for 216 yards on the ground, that's five and a half a carry. Again, really small sample size. But he added 42 catches. So out of 47 targets, I mean that's a really high catch rate.
Andy Holloway
I think Roy Hulu is a good example, probably Vereen in this category too of a player who's more valuable in the actual NFL than he is in the fantasy football world. I think teams need a guy like hello. I just wonder if he has breakout potential or not. He needs to. He kind of has to be in that situation where he's like four set who gets the opportunity due to injury or due to performance in the first part of the year and can take over for somebody because you know we're looking for that potential in a fantasy football running back.
Jason Moore
One of the other things that's kept him off the field is his pass blocking, which is terrible. He's in the bottom, bottom part of the league. But he's an excellent runner and pass catcher. They just need to.
Andy Holloway
He is a great pass blocker. That's a really good point. I'm not joking with you. You're staring me down like you think I'm good.
Mike Wright
The numbers don't agree with you.
Jason Moore
Yeah, the numbers say that.
Andy Holloway
I thought two years ago he was.
Jason Moore
According to Pro Football focus, they ranked 57 running backs. Last place Doug Martin in past catching.
Mike Wright
Last place in life.
Andy Holloway
Why is there a shout out? We turn so quickly on racist in Doug Martins. I mean but what have you done for me lately, right?
Jason Moore
Roy helou was the 49th ranked pass blocker.
Andy Holloway
Well, that's not really proving my point.
Mike Wright
No.
Andy Holloway
Can you find a stat that.
Jason Moore
Yeah, here's a stat.
Andy Holloway
Go back a year.
Jason Moore
Yeah, let me look. Maybe I can find one game where he ranked high on pass.
Mike Wright
It's more of a him, not maybe it's not him sticking into block is what we're remembering.
Andy Holloway
I think in 2013 he was a better passwalker. But hey, I don't really care if I'm wrong about this. So moving on to the injury prone, now arrested for pot possession, Ahmad Bradshaw. Does anybody. I mean he'll probably produce next Year. So does anybody want to draft him?
Jason Moore
He feels so much older than he is and he's actually getting older.
Andy Holloway
He is getting older, but I thought.
Jason Moore
He was 30 about three years ago.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I know I did too. Well because he played for the giants for about 15, 20 years and he's always injured.
Jason Moore
He's had little. He plays through injuries. I think he does well.
Andy Holloway
He's a tough until they take him all the way out.
Jason Moore
Right. But then, yeah, he, he, he's somebody that scares me. I would, I would definitely pick him up late in a draft because he's constantly scared me and constantly produced. But he's definitely somebody that is not, is not, is not exciting. And I really think he's going to be supplanted in free agency big time. I think they're going to bring in someone, you know, an AP or a Frank Gore or somebody that's going to come in there and be a big free agent fantasy find for some alliteration.
Mike Wright
Yes, it's very nice in the off season. I strongly agree with. Indianapolis is going to make a move for a running back. I really think they are. They. Well, Trent Richardson is gone. Bradshaw, they. Maybe they bring him back for real cheap. But with possible suspension looming over his head. I don't know what the new drug policy is for where he is. Is it his first time? I don't know. But Indianapolis, they, they showed or I guess it was shown to them. They need a running game. They, they need something to help out. Help out luck if they want to be serious about winning a Super Bowl.
Andy Holloway
Their team was completely different with Ahmad Bradshaw in the lineup as their primary running back. He is one of the most ferocious runners in the league. And here's something to chew on. He'll probably get, I mean, we don't know, I guess the outcome. He'll probably get a suspension or something for this. This.
Mike Wright
So me.
Andy Holloway
I don't know what this season it's possible, definitely possible. Because if he pleads out or something, he might just take a. Take a two games. But here's something to chew on. He's 28, right? He has just over a thousand carries in his career compared to somebody like Matt Forte that has over 1900 carries.
Mike Wright
Wow.
Andy Holloway
So even though he's been in the year, in the year, he's been in the league for seven, eight years. The way he ran when healthy, I mean, he's got to stay healthy.
Jason Moore
Well, that's the problem though.
Andy Holloway
He passes the eye test on the field. He passes the eye test.
Jason Moore
But some guys Like Justin Forsett, who didn't have a lot of carries through his career. The reason was because he was behind excellent runners. Ahmad Bradshaw. The reason he's only got a thousand is because he's constantly injured and off the field.
Andy Holloway
No, I don't agree with you. He was behind Brandon Jacobs.
Mike Wright
Yeah, they were.
Andy Holloway
He was behind Brandon Jacobs for sure.
Mike Wright
There was a time period where. And there.
Andy Holloway
Let me give you his.
Mike Wright
Who was the third guy?
Andy Holloway
Let me give you his carries. He, he had 23 carries and then 67 his first two years. So just throw those out. He had basically four years in New York where he was healthy. 15, 16, 12 and 14 games. He had 163 carries, 276 carries. So that was a pretty full year. 171 and 221. So, I mean, career average, 4.6 per carry over a long period of time, catches, passes. I'm, I, I think he's back in Indianapolis. That's my prediction, is that he's back in Indianapolis. Do I think he's the primary? No, I don't. I think they will bring somebody in. I think Richardson's gone. I think Boom Herons third string and I think Bradshaw's back on a one year deal. That's my prediction.
Mike Wright
Boom Heron's a good point of. Do. Do the Colts feel that they can get from Boom Heron what they got from Bradshaw?
Andy Holloway
I think the answer is no.
Jason Moore
Or even what they got from Boom Heron when he played. I mean, can he do that? Because he was decent for a time.
Mike Wright
Yeah. And would say if they bring somebody else in, do they feel like they can just reproduce the production of Bradshaw?
Jason Moore
No.
Mike Wright
Heron and then new Player X? No.
Jason Moore
I agree with Andy that Bradshaw's gonna be back and that they'll. They'll give him that role. He was excellent. I mean, I don't see why, why they wouldn't.
Andy Holloway
And like you pointed out, drugs, his.
Jason Moore
Yeah, you.
Andy Holloway
Hey, he was injured his first year. He only played three games. They brought him back for 10 last year.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Let's talk about everybody's favorite player. Darren McFadden. He's out in Oakland. He is gone. He's. I think he's 27 years old. And I've got three possible landing spots. You guys tell me what you think about these. Which is the most likely. I have Cincinnati reuniting with Jackson there, who actually knew how to use him. I have Miami as a possible landing spot, which I don't think would be the worst thing in the world. And I have Minnesota. If Adrian Peterson was to leave as a possible landing spot for Darren McFadden. Does he have anything in the tank? Does he have any fantasy value? Where does he end up of those three?
Jason Moore
Mike, let's answer at the same time. One, two, three. Cincinnati. See, we're agreed.
Mike Wright
I don't see there's any way he goes to Cincinnati with I know Hughes there.
Andy Holloway
But I think that's just like. I think people just make the Q connection too much.
Mike Wright
There would. I mean the Jeremy Hill has exploded on the scene. Gio Bernard is still there.
Andy Holloway
If you take your shirt off right now, is there a Jeremy Hill tattoo on your chest?
Mike Wright
It's not completed yet. It's not colored. I gotta get the orange done.
Andy Holloway
It's a half. Half Bengal, half Jeremy Hill bursting across your chest.
Mike Wright
But there's. There's no reason to pay unless they're giving him absolute minimum to come be the third string running back. There's. What's going on? Oh, I thought you were secretly hoping.
Andy Holloway
I'm still thinking about that tattoo. Why don't you have tattoos of football players on your body? You got tattoos everywhere.
Mike Wright
It's gonna be glorious when it's done.
Andy Holloway
You need a little Mark Sanchez on your shoulder and like a. I'm not a Sanchez.
Mike Wright
But Jeremy, the Jeremy Hill tattoo is coming. I don't think there's any way he goes there. I believe Minnesota, a reason they would be willing to move on is Mr. He went to Jerix McKinnon himself. He went to Jerrick and the. The plotter Asiata. But they. I don't think he goes there. Miami makes sense. They're gonna need another guy.
Andy Holloway
So does he. Does he have a chance to produce fantasy wise for no owners to me?
Mike Wright
No. Okay.
Jason Moore
No way.
Andy Holloway
I don't think we need to talk about him anymore. No. Sean Moreno, torn ACL from Miami. Is he back there and if he is, does he just kind of resume? Is he one of those guys that nobody wants to draft but he just takes over and does well?
Jason Moore
And how does he battle Darren McFadden there?
Mike Wright
I know this year, once we get to the later rounds, I'm not making the mistake again. I'm drafting. No, Sean. I don't care if he's my first cut, but he's going to be on the bowl two years.
Andy Holloway
You fool me twice. Yeah.
Mike Wright
So his where if, if we don't remember Week 1. 24 carries, 134 yards in a touchdown. Yeah, he was a beast. And then there I. Then it was the dislocated elbow. Missed some weeks, came back in for a torn acl. But he's just, he is an enigma of people keep overlooking. And I'm talking when I say people, I mean professional NFL teams and. But when he gives, when he gets the carries, he is ow. When he gets the carries, he is a ferocious runner and he is the, he's on record. Guinness verified this. He. He has the biggest teardrops in the history of mankind.
Andy Holloway
I just saw that picture again today. I don't, I don't know what. No Shawn Moreno is he, he, nobody does. He was a first round draft pick. Everyone thought he'd be good. He looked horrible. Now I feel like he just runs as hard as he possibly can on every single play. And you saw a humongous difference predicted by yours truly between Monte Ball and Nosha Moreno in the Denver offense last year. There was just such a marked. It seemed like an effort difference. It's not just that. It's skill.
Jason Moore
You've always actually had no Shaw Moreno going back several years to his breakout season, you've had him well pegged. It's like when I think of you and no Shamareno, I think of kindred spirits and so tell us where he's going because I don't think he's going to Miami.
Mike Wright
Yeah, you would know better than anybody.
Jason Moore
Clearly.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I'm going to predict. No, Sean Moreno's landing audience.
Jason Moore
Here's where no Sean Moreno.
Andy Holloway
You don't think he's going back to Miami though?
Jason Moore
No. There's reports out of there that they want to move on from him.
Andy Holloway
Well, I think he could surprise. He could surprise. He could be a guy here.
Jason Moore
He goes to Miami.
Andy Holloway
He could be a guy that lands in a spot and people. He could land in one of those spots where a team was looking for one of the top tier guys, whether it was trading for an AP or a shady, whether it was signing one of the, you know, DeMarco Spiller or Matthews and he lands there and produces. You know, San Diego, I think would be great for no Sean Moreno.
Jason Moore
He's definitely a guy worth, he's a guy worth drafting in fantasy because just like Mike pointed out, he can be your first cut. That's fine. You know, let use your last picks to draft guys that are fine to cut but could blow up. And you've seen just, you know, he's got the talent, he's got the skill, he's got the experience and the history of being able to do that. And he surprises everybody. And you will. Here's what I do know. You'll Be able to get him in your draft.
Mike Wright
I agree.
Andy Holloway
Probably, yeah.
Mike Wright
Most people will be off.
Andy Holloway
I don't know. Yeah.
Mike Wright
Not this guy.
Andy Holloway
Not this guy. You're taking him no matter what here. On the rest of the career. Any of these last, I'm going to give you five names. Anybody stand out that you want to mention for fantasy purposes here? Ray Rice. All indications are no interest. No interest from any teams yet. Ben Tate. So weird. I've never seen a career end faster than Min Tate's antone Smith. He's 29, but not a lot of tread on the tires. Likely that Steven Jackson and Jacquis Rogers are gone. So if he returned, would he be good? Daniel Thomas. Oh, my gosh. I'm never drafting that guy. I'm never putting him on my team.
Mike Wright
Now, Daniel Thomas is much older than I thought he would be.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, because he's.
Mike Wright
I thought he was still like 25.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, yeah, he's terrible. Jacquiz Rogers is only 25. He's another of the Vereen mold. Probably more of a third down guy and actually was a good past blocker. Those five guys, anybody excite you? I almost falling asleep reading their names.
Mike Wright
The only one who is. Is slightly interesting to me is disgusting to say, but is Ben Tate. If you look as we all vomit, if you look at the Cleveland games when, when he was healthy and more importantly, when Alex Mack, the center was healthy, he had some huge games. His being cut seems to have been a product of not getting along with the coach. Getting mad that they were giving my boy the crow. Giving him carries and Terrence west the. Which is a. As a. Is a side note of just mock drafts where people are taking Terence west like the 11th round.
Andy Holloway
That's why. That's why that's dumb.
Mike Wright
I think he should go higher.
Andy Holloway
No, I agree.
Mike Wright
Yeah, that's what.
Andy Holloway
That's what I'm saying. I said it's dumb there.
Mike Wright
People are completely all in on the crow.
Andy Holloway
That's stupid.
Mike Wright
Which is.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I'm not saying crow is not good. I'm just saying that's. That's a classic case. It's the same thing I think has happened with C.J. anderson. People are jumping. And I'm not saying C.J. anderson can't produce. I'm not saying that crow out can't produce. But you don't take the other guys competing for their spot in preseason and throw them at the back of the draft or not draft them at all.
Mike Wright
Yeah. So I thought that was a very interesting thing. And if that happened. I will be drafting Terrence west gladly.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
In that. In that range. But so what I was saying about Ben Tape getting cut was because he was crying and then he got tossed around the league to Minnesota and Pittsburgh. Played a. Played a playoff game.
Andy Holloway
Fumbled.
Mike Wright
Yeah. And if I recall actually the start of the Pittsburgh game, I was really surprised how well he was running, especially for who guy who's just doesn't know the systems floating around. Of course he fumbled and was sent to the bench because of the fumble. But if he lands in a a good situation, I wouldn't mind taking a 12th round pick on.
Andy Holloway
On Ben Tate.
Mike Wright
Ben Tate.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. It just depends where he lands, I guess. But he is young and it's hard to say of all of these guys.
Jason Moore
Because I am a very big CFL fan. They just excite me a lot. I think you know the Montreal Alouettes are really on the look at Ray Rice and so I think that that's.
Andy Holloway
So if you're playing fantasy Canadian football. Yes you. Is this. Is there a podcast market for that?
Mike Wright
Yeah, the Colts are playing fantasy Canadian football with Duron.
Andy Holloway
With Duron Carter the barely paid but for some reason tweeted about Guy. That's. That's my list of. Of worthy running backs to talk about here. One thing we do want to mention is that we will be having a inaugural season for the Fantasy Footballers Redraft Fantasy league. We got a 12 team league and there are two spots available for our listeners. So if you would like to participate with us, if you'd like to compete with us, send us an email, tell us why@mailhefantasyfootballers.com that's our new email address. So if you are submitting a question for the podcast or you'd like to be in the league, tell us why. We'll listen.
Mike Wright
You gotta earn. Our ears are open and we like funny names people.
Andy Holloway
We do. We like to laugh.
Mike Wright
We probably need your real name if.
Andy Holloway
Somebody wants to photoshop Jeremy Hill tattoo onto Mike Wright's chest to go along. Might get you in the league.
Mike Wright
It might.
Andy Holloway
Another. Another piece of information for you is I think we'll be back next week talking tight ends.
Mike Wright
I believe it will be a tight end quarterback combo.
Andy Holloway
Tight end quarterback combo. Yeah, that makes sense. I can't talk about Julius Thomas that long. It's going to Jacksonville. Oh my goodness. Don't you just know that's a done deal?
Jason Moore
Yeah, it's absolutely.
Andy Holloway
Don't you just know I you hear prediction. Julius Thomas to Jacksonville. Randall Cod to Oakland.
Jason Moore
Yeah that's great.
Andy Holloway
That suck.
Mike Wright
That'll be so sad.
Andy Holloway
I mean, I still have. You're a Jacksonville fan. Congratulations on wasting your free agency dollars on a guy whose numbers were inflated by Peyton Manning. Yeah, I mean, I think Julius Thomas is fine, but as a player, it's just. It's tough to see these teams repeat the same old mistakes over and over again. Any other. Any other news before we shut it down here?
Mike Wright
Just reminder to be on the lookout for the. The new website. It'll be up in the. Whoa.
Jason Moore
Oh, it's so. It's so gorgeous.
Andy Holloway
Wow.
Jason Moore
No, that was. That was.
Andy Holloway
Yes, yes.
Jason Moore
Look at this website. The Fantasy footballers dot com.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Do we know when we're gonna get that live?
Mike Wright
I said the next couple weeks would be my guess.
Andy Holloway
I think that makes sense. Today. Jason saying today. Because he did.
Mike Wright
All right, well get your. Get your browser on auto refresh. Be on the lookout. I'm gonna have a couple more articles on fantasypros.com.
Jason Moore
Yes.
Mike Wright
I'm writing a piece on second year players.
Andy Holloway
Nice.
Mike Wright
And I will also be writing a Do not draft wide receiver edition.
Andy Holloway
I love it. I love it. That's awesome. I'm going to shut us down. But first I'm going to make a prediction so that you have it here on February 24th. Jameis Winston will be a good NFL quarterback. I'm on board for the Tampa Bay.
Mike Wright
I'm on board with it.
Andy Holloway
James Winston will be a successful top 10. Not this year. Top 10 quarterback.
Mike Wright
This is the guy who's sitting doing a podcast in a Max hall numbers.
Andy Holloway
Jason.
Mike Wright
Arizona Cardinals. Jerzale. He doesn't. He's not a good quarterback.
Andy Holloway
I would say. I say that there's a good chance Max hall calls the show to try to get that. Yeah.
Jason Moore
His family. I didn't know I was for a little trivia. If anybody ever comes across the question of who was the man that was able to purchase the Max hall jersey while he played in the NFL. It was Jason.
Andy Holloway
It was Jason.
Mike Wright
It was one print, limited edition.
Andy Holloway
Do you know how many people listening are saying who is Max Hall?
Jason Moore
Everyone listening. Everyone listening.
Andy Holloway
See that ex Boise quarterback that got arrested for cocaine? Yes, he was.
Mike Wright
He was. I thought he was byu.
Andy Holloway
Did I say Boise? Oh, byu. Yeah.
Mike Wright
You're thinking of Kellen Clemens.
Andy Holloway
I was not thinking of Kellen Clemons, but that would be accurate. All right. This is the Fantasy Footballers Podcast. Thanks for listening. We'll be back next week.
Mike Wright
Goodbye.
Jason Moore
Thank you for listening to another edition of the Fantasy Footballers Podcast.
Fantasy Footballers Podcast for 2015 - Free Agent Running Backs and Draft News Part 2
Release Date: February 24, 2015
Hosts: Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, Mike "The Fantasy Hitman" Wright
On Tuesday, February 24th, the Fantasy Footballers kicked off their latest episode with the trio—Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike "The Fantasy Hitman" Wright—delving into the intricate world of free agent running backs and the latest draft news for the upcoming NFL season. The hosts set a lively tone, emphasizing their anticipation for the NFL Draft and its implications for fantasy football enthusiasts.
Andy Holloway [00:11]: "This is the second time we recorded the intro to the show because I didn't have your guys's microphones on."
The episode began with a discussion on the NFL Combine, highlighting its importance in fantasy football preparations. Mike expressed his growing appreciation for the Combine, comparing it to watching golf for its relaxing nature, despite not finding it "super highly entertaining."
Mike Wright [01:20]: "It's almost like watching golf. There's something relaxing about it."
Jason shared his favorite aspect of the Combine—watching offensive linemen sprinting, admiring their struggle and bursts of speed.
Jason Moore [02:48]: "Watching the offensive linemen in their sprints... there's nothing better than that."
Andy highlighted how the Combine fuels hyper-analytical discussions, mirroring their own analytical approach to fantasy football.
A significant portion of the conversation centered around DeMarco Murray's contract negotiations and its impact compared to kicker Dan Bailey's presumably lower contract offers. The hosts dissected the implications of Murray potentially being valued only slightly higher than a kicker, showcasing the brutal realities of NFL contracts.
Mike Wright [04:27]: "DeMarco Murray is not even worth a million dollars more to them than their kicker."
The debate shifted to Adrian Peterson (AP), with speculation about his potential move to Dallas or Arizona amidst contract disputes and performance expectations. The consensus leaned towards Peterson being forced into a trade, allowing him to choose his new team, which would influence his contract terms.
Mike Wright [07:05]: "He's going to force a trade... he can dictate which team he gets sent to."
Jason advocated for Indianapolis as a likely destination due to their offensive strategies and the potential for AP to integrate seamlessly.
Jason Moore [08:55]: "Indianapolis... they can afford him and he's willing to restructure. Think it's a done deal that he's an Eagle."
Marshawn Lynch's status was also a hot topic, with offers pouring in from Washington and the possibility of retirement due to injuries. The hosts expressed optimism about Lynch's return, emphasizing his impact on fantasy leagues.
Jason Moore [13:45]: "Marshawn Lynch has been offered all of the money that is in Washington."
Andy brought up a potential DEZ Bryant scandal involving a "bad video," drawing parallels to high-profile incidents like Ray Rice's. The hosts remained skeptical about the legitimacy of the claims, citing Mike Florio's history with sensational sports reporting.
Andy Holloway [09:32]: "DEZ Bryant video out there that is, quote, bad... it's on the same level of impact as Ray Rice."
Mike cautioned listeners against taking Florio's reports at face value, suggesting the situation was unverified.
Mike Wright [10:23]: "Mike Florio is the TMZ of professional sports reporting to me."
The discussion moved to Shane McCoy, with Jason and Mike expressing optimism about his potential return to the Philadelphia Eagles through a contract restructure. They debated the benefits and complexities of contract restructuring in the NFL.
Jason Moore [17:14]: "Shane McCoy... he's open to a restructure... think it's a done deal that he's an Eagle."
Mike delved into the mechanics of contract restructuring, explaining how it can benefit players by providing immediate funds, albeit sometimes at the cost of future earnings.
Mike Wright [17:51]: "You’re moving money to signing bonus and performance-based bonuses... benefits the player."
The hosts evaluated several middle-tier free agent running backs, assessing their potential as sleeper picks in fantasy leagues.
Shane Vereen was discussed as a potential boon in Baltimore, with expectations of increased receptions leading to substantial fantasy points.
Jason Moore [20:22]: "Shane Vereen could catch 100 passes... he has the potential to exceed expectations."
Steven Ridley's potential move to Indianapolis was debated, though concerns about his injury history and competition for carries dampened enthusiasm.
Andy Holloway [22:10]: "Steven Ridley makes sense to me to Indianapolis... but it's uncertain."
Roy Helou Jr.'s fantasy value was scrutinized, particularly his pass-blocking deficiencies, which could limit his effectiveness in fantasy leagues despite his running and catching abilities.
Jason Moore [28:23]: "Roy Helou was the 49th ranked pass blocker."
Ahmad Bradshaw’s potential return to Indianapolis was linked to the team’s need for a strong running game, while Darren McFadden's uncertain destinations—Cincinnati, Miami, Minnesota—left his fantasy value dubious.
Mike Wright [30:00]: "Honestly, I believe Brixton's some kind of a PhD fragment because he is back in Indianapolis..."
The conversation touched on DEZ Bryant's legal troubles and the subsequent impact on his free agency value. D'Angelo Williams was briefly mentioned as another key free agent to monitor.
Andy Holloway [09:32]: "DEZ Bryant... incident was him doing something bad."
The hosts announced the launch of their new website, inviting listeners to submit questions and join their inaugural Fantasy Footballers Redraft Fantasy League. They teased upcoming episodes, including a focus on tight ends and quarterback combinations.
Andy Holloway [43:56]: "We have a 12 team league and two spots available for our listeners."
In closing, Andy made a bold prediction about Jameis Winston becoming a successful top-10 NFL quarterback, while the hosts shared light-hearted banter about Max Hall and teased future content.
Andy Holloway [46:01]: "Jameis Winston will be a successful top 10 quarterback."
The episode concluded with reminders about the new website launch and invitations to listeners to engage further with the Fantasy Footballers community.
Mike Wright [04:27]: "DeMarco Murray is not even worth a million dollars more to them than their kicker."
Jason Moore [08:55]: "Indianapolis... they can afford him and he's willing to restructure. Think it's a done deal that he's an Eagle."
Andy Holloway [17:14]: "Shane McCoy... he's open to a restructure... think it's a done deal that he's an Eagle."
Jason Moore [20:22]: "Shane Vereen could catch 100 passes... he has the potential to exceed expectations."
Stay tuned for the next episode, where the Fantasy Footballers will dive into tight ends and quarterback strategies to enhance your fantasy football prowess!
