Foreign to the Fantasy Footballers podcast with your hosts, Andy Holloway and Mike Wright. Indeed. I start the day with extra pep in my.
B
You have extra pep. I don't.
A
I have extra pep in my step.
B
I am still mourning the loss of CO Carson Palmer.
A
I will get to that. I don't know.
B
I know. That's fine.
A
Don't bring me down right at the beginning of the show, man.
B
Welcome to the show, everybody. I'm Andy.
A
I am Mike the fantasy. Right.
B
And the fantasy Hitman. We are the fantasy footballers and this is our podcast.
A
You can do. We say it's November 11, 2014.
B
Yep.
A
Mike and Mike. Why did I just talk in the third person?
B
Because when you call yourself the Fantasy Hitman, you start to get a big head.
A
Andy and I are correspondents for fantasypros.com and we do some write ups there. You can check out all the things that we have to say. You can contact us at the. The fantasy footballersmail.com we're also on the Facebook. Facebook.com thefantasyfootballers and the reason for my extra pep is I took a contract out this weekend on your fantasy team and the Hitman provided another victory.
B
You have pep in your step because head to head you beat me.
A
That is correct.
B
Yeah. Yeah. Well, I'm in a bit of a sad state at the moment.
A
Yeah.
B
Scoring points and losing games. I don't know how that happens.
A
Not, not just a, not just a victory. But you had the by far the third highest point total of the week. Yes, and I had the second. And the head to head system.
B
The second beats the third.
A
Yeah, the head to head system got you with its, with its century claws of death and we should talk about that. You want to, you want to?
B
Yeah. I mean, might as well. I mean most people are in head to head leagues.
A
Yeah.
B
Actually I would say like probably 95% of people.
A
I would imagine that most people are.
B
So what we're talking about is there's this really sad thing that happens sometimes where two teams play each other and they score the most points in the league that week and one gets a win, one gets a loss. And then some chump scores one third as many points, but he beats some other other chump who scores even less and they get a win. And then over the course of the season, maybe you don't have standings that reflect perfectly the best team. But is. And so sometimes we talk about, are there ways to run. You're in a league, a different league that does the standings a little bit different.
A
You want to we do. You get the head to head counts as a victory, counts as one point. And then we also. Excuse me. The. The top six scores of the week will also receive a point.
B
Mm.
A
Because we found that we had just several instances of top overall point scorers missing playoffs because they would just get hosed on a head to head match of week after week where they would. They're consistently putting up top six points but they would happen to get matched up against the person who put up the most of the week. And we wanted to. You want to reward the head to head matchup. But. But why we went with this is you also want to reward consistency because we're.
B
And it makes sense. Your goal is then to get a little bit better. Take a little bit of the luck out of it. I guess.
A
Yeah. It would. It just. It rewards not just luck, but it also rewards strong ownership, an active owner, having a great draft, that type of thing. Really putting in the work that we do and not just having.
B
That break. In terms of your. Your team can perform better than nine tenths of the league.
A
Right?
B
Yeah, that. That makes sense. And now some people take that the full way. And even if you're in, you know, they may not be in a head to head league. I've heard of all play leagues where every week your team plays every other team. If you play in an NFL.com league you can actually view your standings that way. How you would do if you were matched up against everybody every week. I like head to head for the reason of why this show opened. You have pep in your step because you defeated someone as good as me, which is obviously very difficult and so you are now encouraged by it. But yeah, it's an interesting topic to bring up. It's obviously I can tell you right now it's extremely frustrating to dominate with an asterisk next to it and then get a loss for it. But it's. You know I. What I'd like to see is I like that way that your league does it but your league does it manually. And I'd love to see some of these. The major network providers. Yeah. The providers of these fantasy leagues to support some of that scoring, those types of scoring options. So.
A
Right. Yeah. And then in the innovation say we have to do. And we have to customize our playoffs after their.
B
Right.
A
Done. Yeah. I mean some innovation wouldn't be necessarily a bad thing. I think it's a highly competitive market with all the money and everything that's made and being tossed around for fantasy. It's.
B
It's Interesting.
A
I would think some of these sites would start trying, especially the non NFL.com ones.
B
Yeah.
A
Because you have. You're competing with the Giants. The.
B
The originator, the ad riddled.
A
Oh, dear goodness. Real quick.
B
Before we get on to news and notes too, I want to just remind our listeners that they can reward us for our contributions to your fantasy life by visiting us on itunes and leaving us a five star review. We got a couple more five star reviews this week. Oh, I don't have them up. You want me to pull them up?
A
No.
B
Okay. But we did get a couple more, which is nice to see. And if you enjoy the show and you want to support the show, go to itunes, type in the fantasy footballers, go to podcasts, find us there and leave us a five star review.
A
And some people have, they've asked me, they wondered about these water bets that we make throughout the show. Like where can. They don't just want us hear about it, they want to see it.
B
We have that ability.
A
So we, we post those videos on our Facebook page. That's Facebook.com TheFantasyFootballer so this week's will be coming.
B
Yes.
A
Andy has to pay the piper three times over this week.
B
Yeah, I was gonna say, now that I've lost to you and lost both of the bets, let's just rub water in my wounds.
A
So those will be coming sometime this week?
B
Yes. I'm. I'm getting over a little bit of a cold, so Mike's been kind enough to not completely give me pneumonia the first day I have it due. But let's get into it, huh?
A
Let's do it. News and notes from around the league. All right, now we don't. I'm sorry that we have to start the show with such a. Such a downer, but Andy and I are very vocal of our affiliation and our love for the Arizona Cardinals, the.
B
Best team in football who have the.
A
Best record in the NFL. We're 8 and 1 and Carson Palmer is no longer with us for the season.
B
Sucks so bad, dude.
A
It's.
B
I mean, I don't even know where to begin. We've lost so many good players and now here we are without our quarterback. And all we want to do is convince ourselves that Drew Stanton can do it.
A
And I think he's okay. And it's really gonna. It's up to the defense, just even more so. But I was actually thinking that, like, how can. No one else is dealing with this. I'm like the Philadelphia Eagles dealing with the exact same situation.
B
It's funny. But Carson's out, so he's not on your roster, I'll tell you that.
A
So that's the top of the. I'll give you at least.
B
We just paid him $50 million.
A
A hot fantasy chip you can drop.
B
Carson Palmer. Yeah. What a bummer, dude. And he was playing so well.
A
In case you haven't heard this anomaly. Carson Palmer back in 2005 or six, he signed a hundred million dollar contract with the Bengals. The very next game he tore his ACL. Flash forward 2014, Carson Palmer signs a 50 million dollar contract. The very next game he tears his ACL.
B
I. You just can't even explain something like that. Other than he knows how to secure his future very well. Yeah, it's a disappointment. Carson Palmer, torn acl. Another guy that went down with an ACL this week was Brandon Albert of Miami.
A
Yeah, we don't usually get into those kinds of energy injuries, but I thought it was.
B
That was a pretty. Impacts the offense.
A
Yeah, that's a huge one because he's a. He's a great left tackle.
B
Yeah. And they paid him a lot of money too.
A
And the rookie who came in, I don't. I don't have the numbers right in front of me, but they were not. Not good.
B
Yeah.
A
And my man Tannehill could be in some trouble. Let's see what else we got. Brandon Marshall hurt his ankle in the blowout, which that is just the worst. Watching a superstar player get injured for.
B
He actually had a good fantasy game.
A
He did. But for nothing. He says he's gonna be fine and he'll play. Situation to monitor. Ronnie Hillman has a foot sprain or one of those weird things that they don't. They're never completely honest about a couple games.
B
Right.
A
That's what. That's what it's gonna start at.
B
Well. And the truth is his relevance is gone. That's what I think. I think he's relevance as a fantasy guy is gone. CJ Anderson had a monster game.
A
Right.
B
And then Monte Ball is expected back this week.
A
But I was just saying that this looks exactly like one of those foot injuries where it's MJD and Darren McFadden where every week it just keeps. You keep adding another week. So I would not count on him for the rest of the season. The rest of the fantasy season. Reggie Bush tweaked his ankle. But I think he says he's okay. That's what the news is.
B
Yeah. He's been saying that though for about a month. So we'll see what the practice looks like this week.
A
Another funny anomaly. He keeps hurting himself against his former teams.
B
Oh, really? Was it the Saints last time? Oh, there you go. It's one way not to man up. What's going on with Sammy Watkins?
A
He just, he had that groin injury all week and he didn't have a very good fantasy.
B
He said he wasn't limited. He came out and said he was not limited in his game.
A
His production was very limited. And we bring it up because he has a Thursday game. So that is a situation you will want to monitor closely. Along with that, Lamar Miller, who also had a very poor fantasy game, he's playing on Thursday as well. He's got that AC joint problem. The Dolphins brought up the Michael James off of the practice squad because they had a spot because BRANDON Albert is IR'd for the year.
B
Running back situation in New York. Saw a couple more guys go down. Peyton Hillis with a concussion. Michael Cox fractured his leg. He's gone for the year. And so they're talking about is Rashad Jennings back next game? I doubt it. You know what I'm hearing?
A
Yeah, I'm really not sure what to think about that. And it's. Andre Williams has been very disappointing.
B
I agree.
A
He just, he hasn't looked, you got.
B
To go a line touchdown. This past week he's been very disappointing.
A
But of. Of all the snaps I've watched, I think he had one catch where I thought he actually looked impressive. But aside from that, he's been disappointing. Delaney Walker, the tight end, Titans tight end, got a concussion. Titans tight end. That's kind of funny. And then my man Allen Robinson, I push him all the time. Goodbye fractured foot. He is out for the season. That came out today. And the other news worthy article we got, Adrian Peterson's situation is said that it will be resolved by the 22nd. So I don't think we should expect him this week. But week 12, it's very possibly playoffs that Peterson might come in here. Which is exactly the kind of thing.
B
You were afraid of, huh?
A
That people were talking about at the beginning of the year. I can't remember one of the huge paid tournaments like nf, FBC or I.
B
Can'T remember one of the. I can't remember football.
A
Yeah, one of the big Vegas ones. They actually removed Peterson from the player pool when this, when this all happened because they didn't want something like this to happen where he's out the whole year and then someone can just snipe him right before the fantasy playoffs and then you're Team is ridiculous. So if you didn't get. I think he's owned everywhere now.
B
Sure. Yeah, we've been talking about him.
A
So if you didn't get him, you're probably too late. Let's move it on this week's fantasy stud muffins. All right, let's start. We're gonna lift list off some guys who had some big games, and we're gonna talk about, do we like them moving forward? Yeah. Yes.
B
Yes. There were quite a few big games, some surprises this week. Let's start at the quarterback position.
A
So this week, surprise. Well, one of them was not a surprise because he was my start of the week. But Josh McCown, Mark Sanchez, Michael Vick, they all had great. Well, not great, but very good fantasy games. We know Michael Vick's on a buy next week, but let's say moving forward, which. Which of these three guys are. Do you want to guide your team?
B
Yeah, if it's me. Moving forward, it goes Sanchez, Vick, McCown, believe it or not. And that's not really saying too much. Sanchez inherits a very potent offense, and he's proven in preseason and in the regular season so far that he can move the ball with them. So I think Sanchez is your highest upside, best option moving forward. McCown had a good game, but I haven't seen enough from him. Vic, Vic. I liked what I saw two weeks ago. He's been careful with the ball.
A
Say, health is a very big question mark.
B
It is. And McCown so far this year. So for me, Sanchez stands out among them. And then the other two, I would.
A
I would completely agree with that. The one thing I just want to say, I know it's been a while since I've seen Sanchez play, but I don't remember such a ferocious pump fake. I mean, he was throwing, like, every single. He was very Brett Favrevesque. Every play, he would throw a huge.
B
Very big pump fake.
A
Yeah, I mean, it was.
B
Got the work done.
A
His. Because his receivers were always wide open. Again, he was. He was playing the Panthers. Playing against Green Bay will have a much clearer resolution of. Is Sanchez actually capable or not?
B
That'll be a good game. I'm looking forward to that game.
A
I am, too.
B
Philly, Green Bay. That should be excellent. Here's a guy that just blew up this week. He's the guy that, if you were listening to our podcast about three weeks ago, he's the guy that I said you should grab instead of Ronnie Hillman.
A
That is fair.
B
Now, I'm not gloating in that fact because it's coming too late. But I saw the potential in him if he got the opportunity. And then C.J. anderson had a monster game for Denver this week. What do you make of C.J. anderson going forward? Does he need to be grabbed right away?
A
Yeah, he absolutely has to be rostered just in case. Because he's the Denver running back. Maybe he's the guy. Reports are saying Monte Ball is going to be back this week and he's lost some weight. He's lost weight, which I actually like when I hear that about running backs. Like Le'Veon Bell lost a good amount of weight, so it's. It. That is a mess, though. You're. You're really throwing a dart of who you think is going to be the guy.
B
The problem is, is the Denver running back will be a fantasy stud.
A
Yes.
B
But you got to figure out who it is.
A
Yeah. So you got to get in on it. You have to grab a share and hope that the roulette wheel lands on your guy.
B
It's true. Let me. Let me bring up three other guys here that had big weeks real quick.
A
Okay.
B
And you put them in order for me. Three youngsters, three youngster wide receivers that had big weeks. Jordan Matthews, two touchdowns. Martavis Bryant with his fourth straight game with a touchdown, which was garbage, but.
A
They count the same.
B
Yeah. And Mike Evans had another good game and that was pretty neat to see with McCown. So if you had to put these three guys in order moving forward, which I think is probably pretty hard, which one would you put up top?
A
Jordan Matthews just furthered along my hypothesis of backup quarterbacks like their backup receivers. Jordan Matthews was the go to guy that entire game. I think Macklin had three catches or something. It was very, very, by far his lowest game of the year. And Matthews exploded was massive. Evans, the question mark was can he do it with Josh McCown? Because he's been. Evans has been heating up and Bryant is still splitting time with Marcus Wheaton, even though Bryant still. He produces every single week. But his production is so reliant on touchdowns that I would rank them. I would go Jordan Matthews. Because I think I like what you said. I like the Eagle offense and I think that Sanchez will keep going to him.
B
Good rapport.
A
I'm gonna go, Jordan Matthews, Evans, Bryant. And that's, that's, that is not saying I dislike Bryant. I've talked many times about how much I like him. I just think those other guys, they.
B
It's.
A
It's playing time is what it is.
B
Yeah. And you Know, that's, that's the thing is do you believe Martavis is going to continue to get more and more snaps?
A
I do, but for now, yeah.
B
That's. Honestly, those three guys are. It's tough for me to put them in any type of order. I tend to put. I think I put Matthews down a little bit. Just consistency factor. I feel like there's so many weapons in that offense. It's going to rotate through. You're going to have a Macklin game. You're going to, you're even going to have a Riley Cooper game. Selleck Ertz.
A
The other thing I had read about, which I think can also factor into Matthew's success, is because he's the slot guy. That's, that's where Sanchez is good. He's good in the middle. He's not, he's not an outside. The numbers thrower. Which is Macklin and Cooper.
B
Right.
A
Riley Cooper. Remember when that guy got a five year contract?
B
Yes. And right after those comments.
A
Oh, brutal. A quick note. Terence west appears to be the Browns running back moving forward. So.
B
Not according to, not according to beat writers in Cleveland.
A
Oh, seriously? Now they're changing it again?
B
No, I mean the, the sentiment in Cleveland is that. We have no idea. The sentiment is week to week based on practice reps. Week to week. This week Wes got like 47% of the snaps. Tate got 33%, Crowell got 20%. But this has got hands off. Although they ran 50 something times.
A
I don't know if you noticed this, but the, there was the Crowell, what was called a fumble, which was clearly not a fumble in the.
B
And then he got benched.
A
He got benched.
B
I know.
A
What are these coaches doing?
B
You have a problem with that?
A
I have a huge problem with that. And especially when you're not consistent. Lovey Smith, Charles Sims, his very first game, he comes in and he fumbles. I remember when Bobby Rainey was being electric and he fumbled once and you sent it to the bench for Mike James. He has a clown show going on him out. Like, it seriously gets me so fired up.
B
Yeah.
A
And in. And Jeremy Hill. Jeremy Hill got benched too, for a fumble. That was a, like, that was a good, good hit. That was a helmet to the ball from the back. I mean, there's not many guys who won't fumble that ball. Then he benches. Happen he benches him. And then he lets Andy Dalton have. Who was having the worst game of his entire career. Just keep throwing. Like, just keep throwing. Andy Dalton. You're, you're not, you're not five yards within a receiver every time you throw it. But we're going to keep throwing. And then one guy fumbles once and he's to the bench.
B
Yeah.
A
Clown show.
B
Inconsistent. One guy. One guy I want to bring up that's not on our list. Is not a surprise for people. It's Jimmy Graham. Jimmy Graham is back, baby.
A
He is.
B
And I bring him up because what percentage of snaps do you think Jimmy Graham played despite his. He almost had three touchdowns this past week. And he had two big game.
A
I don't know, 80%.
B
So 73. He's only at 73% of snaps right now. Coming back off the shoulder injury. But if you watch that game. Yeah, he looks back, he's back. So we should probably move. Move on here.
A
Yeah. I took up some time. I apologize.
B
It's okay.
A
Pooped in his big boy pants. Ooh. We're gonna start this section with some breaking news. Of. Of.
B
Is it you?
A
Of old pants.
B
Oh, okay.
A
Old pants. The Bears have waived San Antonio Holmes.
B
You know, it's funny because I noticed that when they played the other night, it was Josh Morgan catching passes in number 19. So that makes sense.
A
Oh, there you go.
B
So this is not a guy you cared about.
A
No, but it just. I like to break news just in.
B
Case someone from like five years ago was listening and they wanted Adam on his roster.
A
So we take. Guys are considered weekly starters and they have an awful performance and we say.
B
Yeah, we should always explain the poop. The big boy pants section, just in case there's a new listener wondering what in the heck they're listening to. Yeah, these are guys that you expected big numbers from, but they laid an egg in their pants.
A
Hot tip. We. We didn't actually. We don't think they really pooped their pants.
B
No, no, that's more of a figurative.
A
This is not literal.
B
Yeah. Although Dalton, he had the looks of a man with something wrong. Something going wrong. Because he. He was Denver 33 and looked like a Pop Warner kid throwing with the wrong hand.
A
It was so painful to watch.
B
He just cashed out too, didn't he?
A
Yeah, well, he's on.
B
He's on a year to year type.
A
Kaepernick, pay as you go, but so, so bad. In just wide open. Guys, he not getting anywhere close. Now, of course, he had a couple receivers, even AJ Green dropping passes too. That whole team imploded. Except for another guy who happens to be on this list, although he should not be. Who's Jeremy Hill, who I think he still averaged about Four and a half yards of carry.
B
So he did not get the ball.
A
He wasn't getting the work because the. The coaching staff freaked out that they were down by two scores with a whole half of football.
B
So moving forward, translating it into. For people with considerations of Hill starting. Are you still comfortable starting him?
A
Yes, you are, I think.
B
And obviously, Dalton, you can kick to the curb.
A
I have to believe that a. Who is. I can't think of the Bengals coach right now. Yeah, you can't think of it either.
B
Well, now that you boggled me out. Hold on a second. I got it. I got it. Hold on. Oh, my gosh. I keep talking about Bunny, but anyways.
A
I can't imagine that they will sit.
B
Only been there like 400 years. Marvin Lewis.
A
There we go. Lewis that he hasn't. That they don't sit down and watch the game film and go, man, we screwed that up.
B
What's funny is Hugh Jackson's a running coach.
A
The strength of their team is running the ball.
B
Yeah. So moving forward, you like Hill. Dalton. Never look at him again. Here's a guy that I'm done with. I'm done. Oh, I'm done.
A
Oh, Are we talking over. Are we talking top three pick?
B
Something's wrong. Shady McCoy. Yeah, Shady McCoy. I mean, in a game like last night, Shady McCoy of a year ago would have gone for 250. Something is not right. I don't know if it's mental. I don't know if it's offense. I don't know if it's sprawls and not getting in the rhythm. Something's wrong with Shady McCoy, and I don't think he's. I mean, he's certainly not worth where he was drafted. But now you have to get into the conversation of genuinely. Are you flexing him? Are you flexing a guy like Martavis Bennett, Mike Evans, Sammy Watkins? You have to make decisions like that.
A
Now, that's crazy to even think that.
B
But I know teams will bury themselves this year playing Shane McCoy. That's the thing. Teams going into the playoffs. Teams in the playoffs have the potential of loyally starting him because of where he was drafted. And it hurts to bench a guy like that. But what do you do? What was he, 18 for 25 last night or something? 18 for 29? I think it was something like that.
A
He was gifted a touchdown.
B
Yeah.
A
On the Brent Selleck was reviewed to be down.
B
Yeah. That's not something you count on is a free gift. Well, and that. Guess how many touchdowns it gives them on the year Two, two, two. Now I'm not. He had good games before this. No touchdowns. He had 22, 21, 24 carries. Last night. He was 12 for 19. He's had games of three points, two points, 11, nine this year. He's not. He's an RB2, RB3 cusp guy.
A
So crazy.
B
I know. It's tough to even imagine that talented. But you know, you know, he also thought he was so talented and sometimes you see guys.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah.
A
He almost. I'll need to look at his. His numbers going throughout the years, but he almost seems like an every other year guy because he had that 20 touchdown year.
B
Yeah.
A
And then the next year he. He didn't really score at all. And then the next year was. He had another huge year, which was last year, the first Chip Kelly year. So I'm putting it. It's all. I'm all in on Shady McCoy next year.
B
Yeah.
A
Every other year for the win.
B
There you go. So let's, let's actually move on here.
A
Yeah, put me in, coach.
B
Yeah. Let's talk waiver wire. Big time of year right now. We already talked about C.J. anderson earlier. He's on our list.
A
Say the fantasy pros.
B
That's right. Yeah. Yeah, no, I will. We grabbed the consensus rankings here from fantasypros.com, our favorite fantasy tool. It's a great site. It'll rank. It'll compile all the lists from all the experts, give you a good consensus rank that you can head into your waiver wire with. And so we got that list. We're going to talk through it a little bit ourselves, see which guys that we like. And at the top of that list.
A
I love it. Love seeing that guy at the top.
B
Oh, John Brown. John Brown. His name may be rather ordinary, but his game is rather extraordinary.
A
I like it. I liked that very much. And I liked the announcer voice that you went into.
B
Yeah, John Brown. All he did was come in and save the day for Arizona. Way more targets than Michael Floyd this week.
A
Yeah.
B
And boy, the sky's the limit for this guy going forward. Dynasty leagues lock them up.
A
A hot stat. For those worried about.
B
I like hot stats.
A
For those worried about Drew Stanton. Drew Stanton has thrown three touchdown passes this year.
B
Oh, I wonder who they're to.
A
All three are to John Brown.
B
Oh, snap.
A
So it's not like John plus B equals.
B
Hey, backup quarterback. There you go, Mike the hitman. The fantasy hitman. Dropping it. Backup quarterback running with a guy who was running with the second team. A lot of rapport with John Brown. And John Brown can just burn it. He can just burn it downfield. Looks like Marvin Harrison to me. Plays like Ty Hilton.
A
Yeah. I think they got a winner there. Yeah.
B
Really nice pick. After we're done ranting about our guy, let's talk fantasy practicality on him. He is still a wide receiver. Three, boom, bust.
A
Yes, I would agree with that.
B
If you need a guy though, that can give you one big play. I'd much rather be running John Brown out there than I would, I don't know, a middle of the road guy like Reuben Randall.
A
Oh, I'm done with Randall. Yeah. Now, this list was put out before the Monday night game. So if we're talking receivers, I would put Jordan Matthews at the top of my.
B
Is he available?
A
Yeah, I think he's pretty available in.
B
A good amount of leagues.
A
I would.
B
Can check on that.
A
Yeah. So next on the list under John BERNER Brown is C.J. anderson, who we've talked about a little bit.
B
Got it.
A
Got to give him a shot to add him. That could be a complete.
B
Wow. Jordan Matthews is. Guess his ownership percentage.
A
40 something.
B
25% ESPN leagues.
A
Yeah. So there you go.
B
Grab him.
A
Anderson could be a complete waste of your waiver spot or this is the.
B
Time of year you.
A
I mean, you got to go for it right now because he is a. He's not just a.
B
He could for you.
A
Yeah. He's a game changing.
B
He could be the Noshon Moreno of this year.
A
Could be. Cecil Schwartz is next and he actually gets a.
B
He gets a bump.
A
This was before the news.
B
Yep.
A
So I would actually add him as well. Before John Brown.
B
Absolutely. Cecil Shorts had a big week and Alan Robinson is out.
A
Yeah. So all those targets got to go somewhere. And Cecil Schwartz is a very gifted receiver. He just is equally gifted at getting hurt.
B
And here's the thing about him. You can probably snag him if you have a bench spot. He's going into a bye week.
A
Yep.
B
So. But he's a guy that moving forward. Here's what we know about Jacksonville. They lose and they lose a lot. And Blake Bortles gets to stretch his arm out for the second half of most of these games. So Cecil Schwartz is a guy to consider. Kyle Rudolph comes off the injury.
A
Yeah. Hopefully you were smart and grabbed him.
B
Maybe. I don't know how I feel about him having a lot of relevance in the next couple weeks.
A
They play Chicago this week.
B
Oh, so three touchdowns for everybody.
A
I. It looks that way.
B
Have they said if they're going to ease him in, though?
A
I don't. I imagine if he plays you got to think he's completely ready.
B
Gotcha.
A
Other guys. Let's see on this list that we like Sims. The jury is still out.
B
I still like they'll give him a shot.
A
Still like devonte Adams a lot even though he was not used hardly at all in that bonanza Green Bay explosion of everyone and everyone's grandma gets touchdowns against Chicago.
B
Yeah.
A
The Alfred Blue. The Foster says he's. Yeah, Foster's expected to play, but he's probably expected to get hurt again. And anybody else on this list that you.
B
Only other guy I was gonna mention was they threw. Somehow they put Marcus Wheaton on that list but did not put Martavis Bryant.
A
His ownership is probably up.
B
You know, snap counts were on them. No, they were both 59%.
A
Yeah.
B
So it's going up for Bryant of late. But I guess you're right about ownership percentage.
A
They. I think their threshold is 60% on Yahoo.
B
You know his percentage is 60.4%.
A
There you go.
B
So there you go. So that's why he wasn't on the list.
A
The only other interesting name for me is Damian Williams, the backup running back for the Dolphins, just in case Lamar Miller is unable to go.
B
Sure. Yeah. Thursday night game.
A
So for the Miller owners who are in desperate scramble mode, he might be a guy to hold on to.
B
Not Thomas. No, no, I'm not fumbleitis.
A
I'm not starting Daniel Thomas a. And there was a resurgence of Brent Selleck. I don't. Is that Sanchez?
B
That's just.
A
Just the game outlier. You think?
B
I do okay. I think you got to give it a couple games before we would see anything else. Is there anybody else that's really standing out to you? Let's. Let's get into the fun stuff here.
A
Starts of the week. Oh, starts of the week.
B
Everybody's favorite section. We give you one start from every position. Mike and I both give you one. And you can choose to go with his or the better option.
A
Mine last week had some hits and some misses.
B
That's right.
A
Some. Some big hits. I don't have the list in front of me, but I know, I know Sanchez was a big hit for me and our defense is both just destroyed.
B
Yeah.
A
I think I had Arizona and you had the Ravens, I believe.
B
But anyway, so good week on a few of them.
A
We try not to throw obvious starts even though like, hey, you know who actually could make this list now?
B
Aaron Rodgers.
A
LaShawn McCoy.
B
Oh, you're right. He could. He's finally eligible.
A
He's all right. So, quarterback, I'm throwing out Teddy Bridgewater versus the Chicago Bears. The. The Vikings are coming off a bye. Kyle Rudolph is set to be back. Chicago has given up 11 touchdowns in the last two weeks.
B
They are the first team since the 1927 Rochester Jayhawks to give up 50 plus points.
A
Well, big Jayhawk guy.
B
Yeah, you are. I know. You got one of their old leather jerseys. I don't know why they're leather. My quarterback. Start of the week, I'm going with RG3. I'm gonna take Robert Griffin the third versus Tampa, mostly because Tampa gives up passing touchdowns. Two plus TDs. Two quarterbacks every game but one this year. 27th versus the pass and coming off the bye, a little more rapport with his receivers. I like what I see out of RG3 this week.
A
That's so. That is bold.
B
At least I have a case for.
A
When I'm still very tepid on fair on Griffin, my running back. I'm going with Frank Gore.
B
I don't like it.
A
That's fair.
B
I mean, I. I'm just saying.
A
No, that's. That's fine. Here's.
B
I thought about him and I don't like it.
A
The. Frank Gore looked. He looked pretty good in that Saints game. He looked more. More Gore. Ian, if you will.
B
That's what the word is.
A
Yeah, it's a real word. Look it up. He's playing the New York Giants. Now, I'm not sure if you remember what happened to the New York Giants this past week against a Seattle team.
B
But they've given our touchdowns.
A
They've given up a running back touchdown in all but two games. Now, I will preface this with Hyde. Hyde also had a touchdown last week.
B
And I thought he looked really good, too.
A
He looked. He did look good. And he could. He could take the work, but I still think that they will go with the veteran and he'll get his touches. And I think Gore scores.
B
I like it. I went with a mod scores and seven years ago. Goodness. Yeah. That's why they call you the hitman. Ahmad Bradshaw versus New England. Ahmad Bradshaw versus New England. This is a bit of a gut call, but New England gives up a lot of points to running backs and the odds of a shootout in this game. I'm looking forward to this game. This game and the Green Bay game are going to be fantasy gold for a lot of players, I think. And so you've got guys. You know, I just think Andrew Luck's gonna have to throw the ball a lot. And when Andrew Luck throws the ball. Bradshaw is out there in pass protection. He's on the field. He takes screens. He gets it around the goal line. I like Bradshaw.
A
I can see that. Andrew Luck does throw the ball about 84 times a game.
B
It's ridiculous. And he's coming off a buy too.
A
So moving on, wide receiver. This goes along with your RG3. I'm taking the likely thrown away into the garbage because that's what he's been all year. Pierre Garcon, they're playing Tampa Bay. They're the worst fantasy defense against receivers in the league. People might not remember this, but Garcon was either 1 or 2 in caught passes last year. I can't remember.
B
Oh, he was great. And he was with RG3.
A
Yeah. So. And maybe Griffin. I'm hoping Griffin has. He's shaken some of that dust off and he can start getting Garcon involved in those short little slant routes.
B
Nice. I like it. I'm gonna go with maybe an unexpected pick here.
A
This guy killed us last.
B
I know, I know. I'm gonna. I'm gonna go with Muhammad Sanu this week. New Orleans is not great against the pass.
A
It's true.
B
I like Sanu to bounce back. He's double digits in fantasy points in six of his eight games. Games. Yes. A.J. green's back in the mix, but I just think I'm betting on Marvin Lewis and that team having a bounce back game. Am I 100% sure? No, I'm not because that was a really bad performance last week. But Sanu might be somebody that. I think he's a good start this week.
A
I have still not forgiven Marvin Lewis for what he did to me and my teams in my time on Thursday night. I'm not sure. I'm not sure when he will be get out of the. The Hitman doghouse.
B
Yeah.
A
But it is a. Sanu's been great all year. That is just that it's hard to go from the awfulness of. I think he had three points in our league.
B
Yeah. That passing offense just wasn't functioning.
A
And going back to him. Tight end pick anyways. So. Tight end. I'm taking another guy.
B
I'm surprised but I can see why.
A
I mean the game one I'm trying to get. Tight ends are difficult in that there's. I mean there's five or six guys who you start every week and then just a bunch of hurl a rock had a piece of cow. Cow dung and hope one gets a touchdown. I'm taking. I'm going back in on this Washington Tampa game because they both have just not very good defenses, which leads to points. I'm taking Austin Safari and Jenkins. The new. The new triple threat. Triple name, triple threat. Last week was 5 for 30 and 1. I don't know what his targets were off the top of my head, but I know that Washington has allowed in the last two games six plus catches, 75 plus yards, and a touchdown to the tight end position. And it was nice to see McCown get Jenkins involved. I know Tampa really likes him. They like him so much that they were. They got rid of Tim Wright at the beginning of the year and he.
B
Got in a little trouble this week.
A
Tim Wright or Jenkins?
B
Jenkins.
A
Oh, what'd he do?
B
He instagrammed his touchdown celebration when they were.
A
Oh, yeah.
B
Getting beat up. But I like the pick.
A
Yeah. So let's stream him out there.
B
Yeah, for me, I went with a. I took a leap. I'm going. Kobe Fleener against New England. He came on a little bit last game. This is a gut call. New England isn't exceptionally good or bad against the tight end. They're right in the middle of the pack. But this is. This is a gut call. If you want to trust Andy from the fantasy footballers. And you are picking between Fleener and Allen. You are picking between Fleener and a guy like Owen Daniels.
A
I don't. I don't think you're picking between Allen. I think Allen's one of those guys who's in your lineup.
B
Not this week, if you're smart. Well, I think Fleener. Fleener outperforms Allen this week.
A
So Fleener versus Allen.
B
I knew you're gonna say yeah, sure.
A
All right.
B
Water. Bet it.
A
Put it on the board.
B
Kobe, Fleener. I got. I've got the gut feeling that Fleener is gonna keep me out of the water.
A
Kobe, Fleener is very all or nothing.
B
Four catches, 77 yards in a touchdown last game. We'll see.
A
He does. He can have big games. So. All right. Allen versus Kobe Fleener. All right, the defense. I'm taking the. The forgotten about San Diego Chargers. They are available in 23% or they're only owned in 23%.
B
So, yeah, they're forgotten about because they've scored very poorly in the last few weeks.
A
Just one week. Multiple.
B
Multiple negatives in the past few weeks. Pretty sure. Well, that doesn't really change your.
A
Yeah, it doesn't change because they're playing the Oakland Raiders.
B
Yes.
A
And the Raiders are not good. They're not good. They're prone to giving the Ball away.
B
Did you see that play by them this weekend where Derek Carr shovel passed it to his O lineman who took two steps and then fumbled?
A
Yes. Yeah. So it was an illegal pass, but then he fumbled, so they still lost the ball. It's amazing.
B
Yeah, the Chargers actually were really good the first five weeks of the year, and then they gave up. In our league, our scoring is a little crazy, but they gave up negative points to Denver. They give him 35. 35 points against the Denver, 37 points against the Miami.
A
Okay, so the last two weeks.
B
Yeah, and I think, yeah, they have. They have a lot of potential against Oakland this week. Who is a turnover factory?
A
Yes. Who do you got at defense?
B
I'm gonna go with the Redskins coming off the buy. The Redskins coming off the by against Tampa. Tampa Bay just really likes donating points to defenses. Doesn't get very complicated.
A
So funny, because I have. I have about 0% interest in actually watching that game.
B
Oh, my gosh, it's gonna be a terrible game.
A
If you say, hey, you want to watch the Washington Buccaneer game? I said, absolutely not. But now I have to.
B
Yeah.
A
Because how much.
B
How much time do we have, by the way?
A
We're good.
B
We're good.
A
We're good.
B
All right, so let's. Let's hit up everyone's favorite segment.
A
This is my favorite. The fantasy footballers versus the world. Oh, this is where we take on the world with our knowledge.
B
That's right. Why don't we explain it?
A
And we hit up some. Some start sit questions, which you can go to fantasypros.com and get you all of your start sit questions answered with standard half ppr, full ppr. But I go to the site, see what people are asking about, and I grab what I think are five somewhat.
B
Close, then we close is in up for grabs, hard to pick which guy to start.
A
And then we can give a little. But a little bit of analysis on it. So first on the list. Oh, I didn't write the teams, but that's all right. I've got Mike Wallace or Brandon lefell.
B
Well, Mike Wallace is playing Buffalo on Thursday, and Brandon lefell is playing Indianapolis.
A
Okay. While you talk, I'll try and fill these in.
B
That's good. So as far as I'm concerned on this one, it's not difficult for me, really. You know, it's not. I'm actually going Mike Wallace all the way. He's. He's proven. He's proven to me that he will get in the end zone pretty much once a game and I'm just worried about LaFell going on, off, on off the way he's been playing. So could be. It's probably a close call, but I'm gonna go with Mike Wallace.
A
Okay. And I'm actually going to lean the other direction. I like lefell. I've liked him a lot. I think that Pagano, you're not gonna completely stop Gronk. That's not what we're saying. But I think he's going to put a lot of eggs into slowing Gronk as much as he possibly can. And that's gonna leave lefell open, which he. They had I think three shots of deep shots that were. That should have been caught. The last time the Patriots played for Lefal. They just. Brady overthrew him or Lefel just barely missed it. So I'm going with lefell. Yeah.
B
All right, pull it up. Let's pull it on up.
A
Are you doing it?
B
Yeah, I got it. It's just. Loading. Loading here. Mike Wallace. 69% of experts agree Mike Wallace is the better start this week. If you drop that into PPR, it looks the exact same. 67.
A
LaFell's not a PPR guy.
B
No. So our next option here are garbage time king kelvin. Kelvin Benjamin versus the Falcons or DeSean Jackson from that epic Tampa Washington game we've been talking about. So who do you take here?
A
That.
B
Because for me I actually. It's not too hard.
A
That's actually a very difficult one for me. The both Falcons and Tampa have terrible defenses and they both. And Benjamin and desean both have shaky quarterbacks.
B
He's true, my friend.
A
The man I'll take D jacks.
B
Well, I'm going with Kelvin Benjamin. So let's take a look here and see who the experts side with. And the result is Kelvin Benjamin 62% Deshaun Jackson 38%.
A
I like when I take the lower tiered percentage and then I'm right.
B
Yeah, it happens sometimes.
A
All the time.
B
The next one on the list is Bobby Rainey or Darren Sprolls.
A
Make it Rain.
B
Sprouls has got Green Bay. Rainey. We just can't get away from the Washington Tampa game.
A
Yeah, those things happen.
B
So who do you got here?
A
So the. The question here is Bobby Rainey's the starter. Washington is not good. Green Bay is their. Their defense is actually coming on. They made a change with Clay Matthews is now on the inside and it. It seems to be paying off for Green Bay. And. But so Darren Sprols is the backup even though he has performed better than Lashawn McCoy. But I still. I'm gonna have to lean on the starter because I like the touches, I like the opportunity. So I would still go Bobby Rainey.
B
And I'm gonna agree with you on that one. I'm gonna go Bobby Rainey as well. So let's go.
A
A Sproules touchdown would not surprise me at all though.
B
And the experts agree. The experts. That one heavy Bobby Rainey. No. 58% to 42%. And actually if you go into PPR, it flips. So sprols goes to 57% in PPR. Really over rainy. So, yeah, full PPR and it's actually a 50, 50 on half PPR.
A
So what's crazy is Rainy, he does catch. Rainy is great when through the air.
B
Yeah.
A
But I don't think they're good.
B
Well, Sims is supposed to be that guy too, so. Yeah, this is a really interesting 1. Stephen Jackson vs. The Panthers or C.J. anderson vs. St. Louis.
A
You start us off. I'm finishing this.
B
Yeah, that's fine for me. This is. It's a tough call. I. I'm gonna go with. I thought it was a. I thought I had it. Yeah, I'll go with C.J. anderson.
A
Now I bring this. I went with this one because. One. We don't know if C.J. anderson's the guy. And Stephen Jackson, we kind of. We glossed over this because he had a great week the last two weeks. This past week, 16 for 81 1. That was against Tampa Bay.
B
It's a lot of carry.
A
He played Detroit, the super stout Detroit defense the other week, 18 for 60 and a touchdown on Detroit.
B
Yeah.
A
The usage. I don't. I don't know why it took him this long to ride with Steven Jackson, who though he does not have much left, I think he still has at least a little bit left to offer. And I know we're hyping up C.J. anderson, but the. Just the unknown of if, is he going to be the guy. And I know Stephen Jackson's the guy in the Panthers or. Although the Panthers run defense looked a lot better, I would say on Monday. But I'm going to lean Stephen Jackson.
B
All right, good call. Steven Jackson is a 7331 favorite. If you drop it to PPR, it's 62 38. Still Steven Jackson, so interesting pick there. And the last one is a good one here. Martavis Bryant and he's facing the Titans on Monday night. Or DeAndre Hopkins versus the Browns. Who's playing the Browns now? Who would you take in this situation.
A
The I would say normally it's a. You're absolutely going Hopkins, he's been great all year. But they, the Texans decided that they're going to make a quarterback change and they're going with Ryan Mallett.
B
So the uncertainty there concerns you.
A
Yes, Mallett has had the bye week to get some practice in but the Titans are not good. The Steelers are playing in prime time. Big Ben stunk against a great matchup and I think they're going to turn it around. So I would go with Bryant's.
B
Well the experts agree with you because I already opened it up before I could make my prediction. So we'll just go with your prediction there. And they took, they took Martavis Bryant.
A
What's the percentage on there though?
B
On A Standard League at 62:38 if you drop it to PPR, Hopkins is actually the winner by far. So that has to be depends on what you need.
A
It has to be the Mallet factor because I think there's.
B
Well, Hopkins is going to catch more overall passes.
A
But no, I'm saying the if you would ask this. I think to me if Fitzpatrick is still the quarterback coming out of the bye week, it's Hopkins. There's. It's not a choice for me.
B
Well, part of it is, I mean Bryant has played four games and he's put up four big games. He just hasn't laid an egg yet. And so because of that I think people are jumping on. And the matchup Titans, is he due.
A
For the doo doo?
B
I hope not. He's on my flex this week. But yeah, that is Fantasy footballers versus the world. We're gonna go ahead and answer some questions now.
A
Mailbag. Mailbag.
B
Hey, that's right. That's right.
A
I do that live, people.
B
Yeah, I was gonna say that's pretty spry for a hitman.
A
Oh so this is. This is a pretty self explanatory segment of the show Mailbag. We answer mail, not snail mail because.
B
You email us stuff. We don't.
A
We don't even have an address. A street.
B
We do but we don't. Football heavy.
A
I don't want you to know what it is. Yeah, don't come visit me.
B
So send us. If you send us questions on Facebook or which is facebook.com thefantasyfootballers or via email which is thefantasyfootballersmail.com either of those addresses you send in your question, we will answer them on the air and if you put a humorous name we will probably.
A
You're expedited.
B
You're expedited to the top of the list. But then you have to remember what name you chose, otherwise you won't remember. We're answering your question. So we, we've got a few submissions this week that we're going to get through. And the first one here, do you have it pulled up?
A
I do. The first one, the writer is named. The end is too tight.
B
Okay. I'm guessing this is a tight end because it is.
A
It is a tight end. It's a tight end. The end is too tight.
B
The end is too tight.
A
It's a tight end start.
B
Is that a famous proverbial?
A
Possibly.
B
I feel like I saw that in a fortune cookie once.
A
Martellus Bennett or Dwayne Allen? Now we, we talked a little bit about Dwayne Allen's versus playing the Patriots in Chicago.
B
You answer this one. How about that?
A
Chicago's playing Minnesota. Martellus Bennett has been very hot, cold this year. Dwayne Allen has emerged to I believe become a. A in every week. Starting tight end. And I would, I don't, I don't know what the New England numbers are versus tight end. Oh, wait. You said they're middle of the road.
B
Correct.
A
And going with that. Minnesota's defense is underrated because their offense is so bad usually. They're going to be great. This week I'm going to go with Dwayne Allen.
B
Okay. I actually disagree. It's not just because Kobe fleeners my start of the week, but also Martell's. Bennett was targeted in abundance this past week.
A
Yes.
B
He was coming off an injury and he dropped at least three balls. One that would have been a touchdown. So I'm going to go with Bennett.
A
All right. The. We checked it out on fantasy pros right here in standard. Martell's been at 58% to Dwayne 42.
B
Pretty close. You got to go with your. Go with your gut. Or your favorite fantasy footballers analyst. But Martell Spence obviously the right to pick. What's the next one on the list?
A
I think we're supposed to do this together.
B
It says tongue clicks.
A
I will do the tongue clicks and you read the name.
B
Okay.
A
Read the name, drop it like it's hot. It's a Snoop Dogg song. You're not hip.
B
I'm not.
A
You are the oldest, whitest man I know. You know, for a young 30s man.
B
I didn't even know what tongue clicks meant when you, when I saw it on here.
A
You've never heard that. This is. That's a tongue click.
B
It is.
A
Yeah.
B
That's a click.
A
Yes.
B
You know, I didn't sign up for this. It's not pop culture hour. I'm here to talk about football.
A
You want to talk about.
B
Is that, like, Disturbed?
A
We can talk about Creed. Is that Creed up your alley?
B
Didn't I send you that picture? Did I ever do that? Did I send you that picture? That was. That's what I looked up to send you last week to make fun of myself for not knowing the Deserve song. I looked up the Creed. A Creed album, and I was gonna drop you a Creed album. How ridiculous that you bring it up now.
A
And it's a drop question. So the name was themed appropriately. Do I drop Pierre Garcon or Cordrell Patterson?
B
Corderell Patterson.
A
Yeah, this one's very easy for me. Corderell.
B
Let's see what Garcon will do with RG3.
A
And that's exactly why I would drop Patterson. We know what he is, at least for this year. Maybe he'll improve next year.
B
This next question comes in from Dr. William Cosby. Bill. They call him Bill.
A
I didn't know he was a fantasy footballer.
B
Dr. William Cosby says this. He wants to know. It's an ad question. He's got a couple waiver wire options. Mike Evans or Brandon lefell. This question depends on your league, your format, your need, if you are. I think it's Evans either way. So I just. Again, this. This is like the Jordan Matthews questions you brought up earlier. Too many options in New England for consistent week to week. The odds of consistency and the upside is on Evan's side. So that's where I go.
A
Yeah, there are a lot of mouths in New England. LaFell is the wide receiver in the. In the one wide receiver sets.
B
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
A
So when they show a run set and they can check into a throw, lafail is the guy who's on the field, man. I. Yeah, at this point, I think I'm gonna go with Evans just because he's so. He's been so hot and he. I expect some duds to will happen. He's a rookie. These things will happen. But right now, you got to ride Evans.
B
Yeah, I'm with you on that. So what is our final question here?
A
No, we got two more.
B
Do we?
A
Yeah, we got two more.
B
Okay.
A
This one's in from Ronnie Hillman.
B
Okay.
A
Ronnie Hill.
B
He's obviously not doing anything right now.
A
No, he's. He's got nothing to do but play some fantasy football. And he wants to know, should he start Monte Ball or C.J. anderson?
B
It's a good question. I. I think it's C.J. anderson this week.
A
You do?
B
I do. Although I don't blame anybody for going the other direction.
A
Yes, the. I think. I think I would start Monte, if, of course I can be starting.
B
Yeah, it's just.
A
Or if he's playing. I should say.
B
This is what we talked about in the beginning of the show. This is a bit of a. Oh, a crapshoot, they call it in terms of not knowing which guy. I mean, for all we know, Joanne Thompson is going to get every carry there. I mean, the way things are going in Denver, somebody will be really good this week. So I'm leaning CJ's way because I don't know if Montes all the way back.
A
Yeah. And that's right. And my answer obviously hinges on if he's active or not. Now, this last one, it took me a second to really understand what was going on, but if you listen, there's.
B
A. I don't know what's going on.
A
There is a theme.
B
Is this another one of your Creed songs?
A
No, no, no. This is there. There is a. Let's see if you hear me higher. Can you figure out the correlation between the emailer's name and the. The in question fantasy players? So the writer is bushes and beards of gray. Who should I start in a ppr? Larry Fitzgerald and Andre Johnson. I get that they're both old. Is that that. I believe that's what's happening here. Why?
B
Why Bushes?
A
I think you know.
B
Oh, my gosh. I think you know. What. What are we doing? What are we doing? Larry Fitzgerald has looked outstanding. I don't care if Carson Palmer's gone.
