Jason Moore
Ah, we're back and oh, so toasty. It's hot outside.
Mike Wright
To the people. We never left. We were here.
Jason Moore
Well, yes, we did.
Mike Wright
Well, I mean, we're back but the show is always.
Jason Moore
We're physically back in Phoenix and it's very toasty.
Mike Wright
It is.
Jason Moore
We were in Minneapolis. Mike, do you not remember this?
Mike Wright
Not really.
Andy Holloway
Minneapolis has much better weather in late June, early July than Phoenix, Arizona does. That is. That is a fact.
Mike Wright
Trees.
Jason Moore
That is a fact, Jack.
Mike Wright
It's fantastic up there.
Jason Moore
Thursday, June 28th. Welcome into the Fantasy Footballers podcast. Andy, Mike and Jason, we're back. We're talking mid round madness on the show today. We'll get you caught up in fantasy football news. Maybe hit a little mail bag, but yeah, I want to say thank you to everybody out there in Minneapolis. They are indeed Minneapolis nice. They are Minnesota nice. They are very, very welcoming people. They shared their food with us. Juicy Lucy's included Poutine's. Yeah, yeah. Those have ramifications.
Mike Wright
They certainly do. Of deliciousness.
Jason Moore
Yes, exactly. So great live show up there. Thanks to everybody that took part. Those that watched on the, on the YouTube channel. Yeah, that was step one in the fantasy for the people tour presented by draft was Minneapolis. And we have Dallas coming up very soon, July 13th at Canton Hall. And here's what's cool about the Dallas show. It's kicking off the National Fantasy Football Convention and we actually get you discounted tickets to the NFFC if you go to ballerslive.com so if you want to go. And obviously if you're coming to our show, you love fantasy football. You want to be part of the.
Mike Wright
Biggest, make a weekend out of it.
Jason Moore
I mean, this is, this isn't a local fantasy football convention. This is national.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. And we're going to be talking at the convention as well, not to mention hundreds of NFL players. It's just a great time. I remember Zeke will be there. Last year, looking at Twitter all ablaze with the NFFC was like, we've got to be part of this. And so we are. And we want you to be part of this.
Jason Moore
That's right. So you can get discounted tickets to the whole kit and caboodle.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, that's really the words I was hoping you use.
Mike Wright
And you're right, Zeke, Kareem Hunt, Melvin Gordon, Kenyon Drake, Chris Thompson, as well as tons of other fantasy football.
Jason Moore
And Brad Evans is joining us for the live show.
Mike Wright
He certainly is.
Jason Moore
That's July 13th and we're also going to be in Philadelphia on July 26th. We'll be in New York on July 27th. And draft, the sponsor of our tour is doing a flyaway contest. So if you're not in one of those cities, they're saying we will take you. And they've got planes now.
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Jason Moore
And they'll put you on the plane now.
Mike Wright
It's very recent.
Jason Moore
Yeah. And they'll put you on the plane, they'll fly you, they'll put you up in a hotel, they'll let you come to the show.
Andy Holloway
That's going to be fun.
Jason Moore
And basically how do you enter that?
Mike Wright
You play best ball. Draft.com ballers play a game for money and you're entered. So you're probably already entered.
Andy Holloway
That's great. And you can go to ballerslive.com to get your tickets for any of those events as well.
Jason Moore
Ballerslive.com all right, quick question of the day, gentlemen. This was, I guess an in person request. Brooks. Yes, sir. During that live show. So somebody came up to the judge and asked this quick question. What is the lowest ranked running back that could finish as an RB one? So this is individual. So what is your lowest ranked running back that could finish as an RB one? Jason?
Andy Holloway
Mine is dependent a little bit on. Well, I guess a lot on health if he starts the year. Not on the pup, the puppet. I think Deontiforman has a legitimate shot at being an RB one. This is an offense with Deshaun Watson and Deandre Hopkins and Will Fuller. That looks exciting. I really liked, I mean, if you listened last year, you know that I was a big fan of Deontiforman coming out of college. I really liked what I saw in the NFL. His production profile, his weight adjusted speed was great and he was just. He was electric. He was tearing it up in the game that he tore up. Unfortunately, His Achilles. Achilles.
Jason Moore
And the jury's out on players recovering from that injury to, you know, getting all the way back and being good enough.
Mike Wright
It's not been a. It's not been good. The track record is especially for running backs in particular.
Jason Moore
It's been a career ender. If your career is kind of progressed a lot.
Andy Holloway
But as a really young player, I think there's a. There's a chance.
Mike Wright
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Andy Holloway
I mean I've got him ranked number 53. So that's probably the lowest ranked running back that I have that I could say into the year. If he's a running back one, you could see it coming if he's healthy.
Jason Moore
Yeah. I'm going to go with Darius Guy Washington running back. I'm at 27 right now. I think he could end up Running back 1. Things are trending the right direction with what he's doing in Washington. The fact.
Mike Wright
So hold it. Sorry to interrupt.
Jason Moore
Sure.
Mike Wright
Jason just gave an argument for Deontay Foreman who can't catch crap and he is and Darius Geist actually has the skill set to do it. And no Deontay Foreman. It won't shock me if he's a running back one.
Andy Holloway
Darn right.
Mike Wright
Meanwhile, Darius Guy's better running back not coming off Achilles who is set up to be a starting running back.
Jason Moore
You can catch the ball. That's.
Andy Holloway
But so that would be shocking.
Jason Moore
Here's the thing about guys is traditionally in these situations and this is if you went back and if you haven't seen the live show, it's a 10 tips and tricks episode. Mike brings up the concept that there are some gross situations like the Green Bay running back situation that can bear themselves out in a lot of fruit can come from it fantasy wise. What I like about guys is he's far and away the best player in that backfield. And yes, P. Ryan's there and Rob Kelly and Chris Thompson who was insanely efficient last year but also very efficient at getting hurt each and every year. Guy's is so far and away the better athlete on an improved offensive line. The right situation, the right draft capital. I think that there's a. There's a world where he's easily a top 12 running back. Now this is what's the lowest that could, not the lowest that will. So do I think Guys gets that opportunity. I still put the percentage in the not enough pass catching opportunity to end up as a top 12 guy but he's super, super talented and the cream rises to the top in the NFL by the end of the season, if not earlier. Geist is going to be getting the predominant amount of snaps in that backfield, regardless of how many receptions he has. Therefore, I think he can finish there.
Andy Holloway
It really sounded like you said the Kareem rises to the top.
Jason Moore
Well, and that happened.
Andy Holloway
So you're proven right.
Jason Moore
That's true.
Mike Wright
And I will say this, we'll preface with mean guys further down on my list. They certainly could. But a lot of things have to break that player's way. And I wanted to bring up a player where I think not too many things have to shake out for him to end up a running back one. And I don't know if we've. I don't feel like we have talked about this player enough and that is Kenneth Dixon, running back, backup running back for the Baltimore Ravens. While we all really like Alex Collins, he was incredibly efficient. He was just a. He was a great player once they gave him the opportunity. He's back on that nonsense exclusive rights contract that Baltimore saved him. He's actually making this year the same amount of money as Kenneth Dixon. Kenneth Dixon tore his meniscus, got suspended for peds, got suspended for substance abuse, was a fourth round pick. And Baltimore kept him around because they believe in him and they believe in his talent. And he flashed Kenneth Dixon. There was, there was real hype for him a couple years ago before the injury because he was flashing and he can be a pass catcher as well. So I. It would not shock me if by the halfway point Kenneth Dixon has stolen the job.
Andy Holloway
I don't think. How dare you.
Mike Wright
I understand.
Andy Holloway
Look, Alex Collins greatest running back.
Mike Wright
Like I said.
Jason Moore
You say Terrence west.
Mike Wright
Like I said, I'm drop still drafting Collins in the. In the middle rounds. But Kenneth Dixon could play his way to be the starting running back. Where I think these.
Jason Moore
We all like Alex Collins, but there's no reason why he. Look, we all like Rob Kelly before last year too. And things happen to players that don't have the heavy financial investment that you don't see a world where Alex Collins loses his job.
Mike Wright
Jason. Of course I do, but I'll never admit it.
Andy Holloway
I will never.
Mike Wright
Did you just admit it?
Jason Moore
He said, of course I do.
Andy Holloway
But so yeah, the reality. So I'm. This is mid. Mid round madness, right? This is the show we're talking about these mid round guys. I'm so tempted to on the fly change to Alex Collins because of your ridiculous Kenneth Dixon.
Jason Moore
He would appreciate that. All right, Twitter, you can find us at the FF Ballers. Make sure you check out our YouTube channel. You can watch the show. It's great. It's great. You get to see Mike dancing. Jason's wearing the.
Andy Holloway
Oh yeah.
Jason Moore
Very special Tariq Cohen.
Andy Holloway
Thank you, Mike.
Jason Moore
Turok Cohen dinosaur hunter shirt that he was given at the live show.
Mike Wright
Incredible.
Jason Moore
He's holding it up to the microphone for some reason.
Mike Wright
Tarok is gonna say something.
Jason Moore
The website's thefantasyfootballers.com Turok talks dinosaur? Yeah, of course.
Andy Holloway
Darn right he does. He's got. You gotta, you gotta be able to keep your enemies close, you know?
Jason Moore
Yeah. By learning their language.
Mike Wright
I'm fluent in velociraptor.
Andy Holloway
Exactly. News and notes from around the league.
Jason Moore
Speaking of velociraptor, took the kids to see Jurassic World, Fallen Kingdom.
Mike Wright
How'd that go?
Jason Moore
Well, it's fallen. All right. That was, that was one three hour.
Mike Wright
Explosion and we made a big explosive.
Jason Moore
Yeah, we made a big mistake because we have a nine year old and a six year old boy. Boys that we took and well, we went to the Dolby so loud and it was loud and it was shaking and they, my wife was having to put like napkins in the six year old's ears to try to help him because he was freaking out. Parenting mistakes. All right, news and notes from around the NFL. Let's talk about Julian Edelman in the situation here because news broke. Suspension, four game drug suspension. He's now appealing that. That appeal was heard Monday. What's the skinning? What are we expecting to happen? Because we did adjust him because 99.9% of these suspensions don't get overturned in any way, shape or form.
Andy Holloway
Not for peds.
Jason Moore
No, not for PEDs. And generally they make these decisions and they carry them out and that affects your fantasy season. And we've made adjustments to his ranking based on the suspension. So what's the latest, Mike?
Mike Wright
So there's a two part defense here coming from Jules and it was that apparently the substance that was found is what is. It's just, it's not recognized by the.
Andy Holloway
So that's.
Mike Wright
I think that's a pretty big check mark for Edelman. And on top of that, he's going with the Ryan Braun defense of they mishandled the delete the documentation and the delivery. And that certainly worked for Braun.
Jason Moore
So. Yeah, it's funny because Braun, when he came back was booed senselessly for years. Edelman comes back, I'll probably just be cheered.
Mike Wright
Right. Well, Ryan Braun also didn't his career kind of.
Jason Moore
No, he's.
Andy Holloway
Is he back?
Jason Moore
He's okay. He's okay. Now it's baseball.
Mike Wright
I don't really know what's going on.
Andy Holloway
But I literally had no idea what you guys were.
Mike Wright
It was, this was a big deal, Jason. But Julian Edelman, he's like paper towels at this point. For me. It won't shock me if the suspension is overturned.
Jason Moore
The one thing that I saw was Dr. David Chow, a really good Twitter follow, an expert, used to be on, I believe, the Chargers medical staff for many years. And he weighs in on injuries and suspensions and things in his wheelhouse. He did say that if indeed it is an unrecognizable substance, he expects the appeal to go through and the suspension to be overturned. So we'll keep you up to date. We'll adjust the rankings. If he is brought back, it'll obviously be a good thing for Tom Brady if he gets Edelman back. From the beginning of the year, losing a quarter of your season and even more of the fantasy season is bad. That's bad.
Mike Wright
Yes.
Jason Moore
All right. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Randall Cobb was wearing a walking boot. He said the boot was temporary, did not under, did not disclose whether he underwent some sort of surgery. So he was so weird. This is bad news because he participated in the OTAs.
Andy Holloway
Right. So this isn't something from the off season. This was, you know, he was at OTAs, he was healthy and then spotted. So something happened during OTAs. I doubt that there is a surgery involved, but it's bad news because the whole issue with Randall Cobb over the last couple years has just been, oh, he'd be good if he was at 100%, but he's not. And now it's like, couldn't get through ota.
Jason Moore
You say he'd be good, he'd, he'd be good.
Mike Wright
He'd be good.
Andy Holloway
He'd be good if he was at 100%. And I want to buy into that. You know, I've got some Randall Cobb shares in a lot of basketball leagues and, you know, it's just a shame.
Mike Wright
Nice. I wanted to bring that up of this is now going on three years in a row and we're on this show, we always say, I mean, you're injury prone until you're not. But he has the, really the one monster season. And then after that, after that season that you had, he could have been the guy when, when Jordy went down. But he had the experience.
Jason Moore
27 years old.
Mike Wright
Yes. Last year. Right. Last year it seemed like he was clicking with Rogers, but then he went down again and I, I am to the point personally where I'm taking my shot with Geronimo Allison as the guy that can emerge as the wide receiver too because the price tag for Randall Cobb just continues to move up. I think that he was going to be a 6 round pick come draft season and I would rather take the guy in the double digit rounds who is going to play on the outside opposite of of Adams when they go three wide.
Andy Holloway
Sure.
Jason Moore
All right, the last one here is we spoke briefly on the Tuesday show about Jameis Winston news breaking that he'll likely be suspended for at least three games in light of the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy with the Uber incident, the things that were rumored last year, we don't know. We don't have an official suspension, which means both directions. It could be better, it could be worse for his fantasy implications. I know that Vegas, when giving lines on potential mvp, still included Jameis Winston with a with candidacy in there. We just don't know that situation yet. I know we've, we've made adjustments anticipating a suspension. Did you guys rank him based on a three game suspension? That's how I approached it.
Mike Wright
I went the three game.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, right now I did the three games. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes six and then gets peeled. It's going to be a messy situation. Depending on which story. There's like two different stories as to what happened and the NFL's got to get to the root of it, which is why we don't know yet. But I will say this, the one fantasy implication that I'm very confident in is that if Jameis Winston misses time, this is really bad news for the tight ends. I like Cameron Bray or like the Cameron Brait Late O.J. howard to come through. Fitzpatrick does not use tight ends, never used tight ends on previous teams. And when he came in in replacement of Jameis Winston this last year, Evans was better, desean Jackson was better and you saw OJ Howard and Cameron Bray, who were having productive seasons, do nothing with him.
Jason Moore
So I want to say this, I'll say it now, June 27, if he gets suspended, I'm starting to believe that this is going to be an unraveling situation in Tampa because I there's a lot of things that this means. One, they're going to be looking. You have to have one eye open on whether he's the long term solution there because I don't. The jury's out on that and their success. This team is in a hyper competitive division where I already, you know, you Already probably projected them fourth in that division.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Jason Moore
And if you lose Winston for a few games, it's just an unsettling situation. Dirt cutter.
Andy Holloway
He gone.
Jason Moore
His future could be up in the air. This could unravel quick. And then if they do have a high pick, do you replace Winston? I know that that's taking it to the nth degree based on a three game suspension, but it has not been smooth sailing for Jameis Winston and this team has a, you know, Atlanta, Carolina, New Orleans problem. I just worry about the unraveling of the season because if they don't have Winston to start the year, already have a tough schedule. Owen 3 is inside the realm of possibility.
Andy Holloway
Their running back is Ronald Jones. Stop.
Jason Moore
Stop. You don't have the blockers.
Andy Holloway
Oh, no. This is a shout out actually to a fan who sent these in. These are the Elton John.
Jason Moore
Oh, you have the Elton John hate blockers now.
Andy Holloway
Yes. Thank you so much for these ridiculous sunglasses. I'm looking good for the first time in my life.
Jason Moore
So for those of you listening on the podcast, picture something ridiculous.
Andy Holloway
There you go.
Mike Wright
Oh, he looks incredible.
Jason Moore
And then add glasses to it.
Andy Holloway
I appreciate that. I like that one.
Mike Wright
And just to cap what you were saying, Andy, he's. This is year four, Right. So they would have that. You got a fifth year option situation where a bordel, a border situation where the cash really balloons. I mean if for a franchise quarterback, okay, I'm going to $21 million fine. I will pay that. But you're right, this is not the first bad decision. This is just a one in a, in a handful, even more than a handful of very, very bad decision making by Jameson.
Jason Moore
Yeah. And you know, not that Keyshawn Johnson, someone I want to listen to, but he's been very vocal about thinking that it's not the future's not with Jameis Winston and the decision making. And we saw some glimpses of it in Hard Knocks. But players do mature. They do play differently than how they appear in Hard Knocks. See Jared Goff. So, you know, you hope that he gets it gets some people around him that can, can help that situation because regardless of the details, there's probably a suspension coming. Probably wasn't a good decision. All right, before we move on to our mid round Madness segment which should be a lot of fun, I want to remind people about pristineauction.com great friends of the show. They supplied all of the awesome autograph memorabilia for our live shows, including the sign Stefan Diggs Adam Thielen Viking helmet, which was so nice. We gave that away live on the show. Prescott, Dallas. Yeah. Dak Prescott signed helmet. Does the helmet come with any whiteouts? Any actual. All right, whoa, whoa. Let's talk about some recent auctions on Pristine. Auction. Tyreek Hill signed Chiefs jersey yesterday, $43. Ty Hilton signed, Colts 8 by 10. Photo $21. Diggs and Thielen color rush jersey, $79.98. Turok Cohen signed Bears jersey, 50 bucks. Hundreds every single day on pristineauction.com let them know that the fantasy footballer sent you when you sign up and you can browse all of their daily auctions. Find something for your home team. Find something for your friends or family for a gift. It's a great cost effective way to stock up on sports memorabilia, authentic signatures.
Andy Holloway
And it's a ton of fun to just browse. You know what else is a ton of fun?
Jason Moore
What is a ton of fun, Jason?
Andy Holloway
The ultimate draft kit. We want to make sure that everyone.
Jason Moore
I've heard about this.
Andy Holloway
Well, you're darn right.
Jason Moore
People are talking.
Andy Holloway
People are winning hashtag Foot Clan titles and we want. We want for years. Yeah, we want people to win. We want you to be prepared. And the thing is, is yes, you can wait till the very last minute and grab it and print out the cheat sheet and dominate, but it's actually the stuff that you get now. The hours of player breakdowns, the hundreds of write ups on these players and the changes that have been going on with coaches, all this information is in there. And you know, it's entertaining and it's fun to digest, to learn, to grow. And then you get to see the updates. So check it out. Ultimate DraftKit.com help support us. This is blasphemy. This is madness.
Mike Wright
That was intense.
Jason Moore
I didn't even remember that drop. I thought I was. I was expecting the voice to come in and I didn't remember we got a Sparta.
Andy Holloway
Oh, blasphemy.
Jason Moore
Do you guys love that movie?
Andy Holloway
I really did.
Jason Moore
Like, I loved that movie. I really did.
Mike Wright
I thought it was so overrated. Wow.
Jason Moore
So you saw it late?
Mike Wright
No, I saw it in the theater.
Jason Moore
Oh, really?
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
The hype was real and it was.
Jason Moore
You thought it was overrated, huh?
Mike Wright
It was two hours of slow motion.
Andy Holloway
But look. Look at all the abs, Mike.
Jason Moore
Oh, I mean, abs for days.
Mike Wright
It made me feel very inept, insecure. I mean, maybe that was it.
Andy Holloway
I was just.
Mike Wright
I was covering my tummy.
Jason Moore
That's where the bin of popcorn normally is. So I always. I never feel a sense of pride when I've got The extra large popcorn. I want to tell all the people around me, like I didn't get butter.
Mike Wright
No butter on this. There's four of us, totally healthy.
Jason Moore
All right. Hey, mid round man. Here's what we did. We're looking at players that are drafted right now between rounds four and eight. And I want to give you an example from last year of this type of player. So we're trying to find a gym, a diamond in the rough that is the fourth through the eighth rounds players to look for. Last year, a good example would have been Larry Fitzgerald. We brought him up on the show. He was being drafted at the end of the fifth round last year. The 28th wide receiver off the board ended up what the wide receiver 11. 11 in 2016. But what was. I don't. I don't remember where he was last year, but he was far better than 28.
Mike Wright
He was.
Andy Holloway
What do you do with wide receiver? Four. That's great.
Mike Wright
11. See this, this is why Larry Fitzgerald drops.
Jason Moore
But no, what I meant to say is that in 2016 he was wide receiver 11.
Mike Wright
Oh, okay.
Jason Moore
Then he ends up being drafted as a 28th off the board.
Mike Wright
Gotcha.
Jason Moore
And ends up four. So we want to find that diamond in the rough in those middle rounds. And so we've each picked two guys out right now that we kind of. I don't know, we kind of smile when we see their name that far down in the draft reminder.
Mike Wright
Larry Fitzgerald still going at the back of the fourth round.
Jason Moore
Yeah.
Mike Wright
Ridiculous.
Jason Moore
It's crazy. He's a. I know he's a my guy candidate for you, Mike.
Mike Wright
He certainly is.
Jason Moore
But maybe we're going to raise his. His ADP enough to where he won't be able to.
Mike Wright
So I'm going to jump in here first and I'm going to go with Demaryius Thomas, who is currently going right around the middle of the fourth round. This guy was coming off of five straight seasons of 90 plus receptions and over 1,000 yards. And last year he was still tied for ninth in reception. So the opportunity was completely there. I took a look at wide receivers and where did they finish in relation to total targets versus fantasy points? And I have. I found that there. We all know this, right? Opportunity means fantasy points. But there was an even stronger correlation this past season than I could have expected. Of the top 20 wide receivers, the average gap between where you finished in total targets and your fantasy finish was 1.75. So meaning you, let's say you got the 10th most targets. The average finish was less than two spots from there.
Andy Holloway
Maybe you were ninth. Maybe you were.
Jason Moore
That's really crazy.
Mike Wright
And there were two.
Jason Moore
Sounds like bad math there.
Mike Wright
It does. I'm just kidding.
Jason Moore
That's crazy.
Mike Wright
And it. Look, it's not. The correlation was not is. When you go back historically, it's still very, very strong. This year in particular was extremely strong. And you had. This is a good place to find outliers, right? Guys who are getting the opportunity. Do you project they'll still get opportunity? Because there's going to be improvement. There were two huge outliers in the top 20. Dez Bryant. Okay, look at the inefficiency. Do you buy in? He doesn't even have a team. Maybe he's done. But Demarys Thomas, he had a gap of over 10 between where he finished in total targets and his fantasy finish.
Jason Moore
Now we get speaks to quarterback play.
Mike Wright
Now he gets a quarterback. Case Keenum, who this past season was 25 points higher in his pass rating than the garbage that demarius Thomas had to play through. I.
Andy Holloway
It's.
Mike Wright
I think it's ridiculous for people to be writing off what demarius has done in his career in very recent memory. He is not an elite separator, but we have Matt Harmon charting people out for the reception perception. He had the second highest success rate of contested catches. So maybe he's not an elite separator anymore, but he can still get the ball when there is a fight.
Jason Moore
I'm comfortable spending your fourth pick on him.
Mike Wright
If I'm in the middle of the. Of the fourth round, I'll probably grab Larry Fitzgerald. But I wanted to highlight somebody else and not just be all Larry all the time.
Jason Moore
So I think it's ironic that the two players that had that gap were DEZ and demarious because I was going to bring up DEZ as almost a comp to Demarius in the sense that how do you know when you're going to get Larry from last year?
Mike Wright
Right.
Jason Moore
Or you're going to get Des from last year, which is. Look, these arguments were made for Des for the past couple of years of he was this player for this long and now he's this. I think the case is strong for demarius. I didn't see things that made me say, boy, this guy's done and he's still the best biggest target on that team. But it is hard to know if the wheels are falling off or you're going to get value with an older guy.
Mike Wright
And I'm strongly on the camp that the wheels are not off yet. I think that Demaryius Thomas still has a few years left of being a high level fantasy player.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, he's 30 years old right now and usually for a big bodied wide receiver they've got another year or two before those wheels do fall off.
Jason Moore
I want to tell you this, Jason, before you choose which one to bring up.
Andy Holloway
Okay.
Jason Moore
I love and hate one of yours.
Andy Holloway
Sweet. Let's see which one it is. I'm going to talk first, I wonder. I'm going to talk first about Carlos Hyde.
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Do you love it or hate it, Andy?
Jason Moore
That's the one I hate.
Andy Holloway
Let me tell you why. Let's go Carlos. Let me tell you why. It's a good mid round.
Jason Moore
Where's he being drafted right now?
Andy Holloway
He is being drafted at the back of the seventh right now as the running back 34 and he is playing plummeting.
Jason Moore
I don't really mind it as much.
Andy Holloway
Anymore the more that Nick Chubb continues to get, you know, publicity and oh, he looks great. The reality is they spent three year $15 million to bring in a running back who has proven in the NFL he's good. I mean two years ago he was the running back 15. Last year he was the running back nine. And this was for a really bad 49ers team for the majority of that season. Now he's coming over to the Browns where we've seen, you know, certainly better than running back 34 finishes over the last couple years. And you know, yes, they drafted Nick Chubb but that's why I remember at the beginning of this off season, at the beginning Carlos Hyde was a fourth rounder and I was like, man, I wouldn't draft him there. I think that that's too high. But now he's the 34th running back being taken and you have a history over the last couple years of when there is a kind of proven veteran given money and a team comes in and spends a little bit of money on a rookie. The one that comes to mind the most to me is when Henry, what Derek Henry was drafted and Everybody said, oh, DeMarco's done. DeMarco's going to get supplanted because they drafted Derek Henry in the second. But it wasn't that way. They kept DeMarco in that role. He was their free agent. They signed and I think that's what we're going to see.
Mike Wright
He traded for, they gave up garbage to get.
Jason Moore
I would have a counterpoint example for that though with Latavius Murray last year team had an opportunity to improve Their. He's getting paid this year. He's getting paid basically what Carlos, he's. Carlos Hyde is getting paid. He's getting paid $4 million. Hyde's getting like 5.1. And they instantaneously made a transition to Dalvin Cook because he was available in the draft.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, but except for they have a.
Jason Moore
Great team and Carlos Hyde is on a team that has not been able to run the ball successfully. Now has three weapons.
Mike Wright
My counterpoint to that would be Latavius Murray was coming off of surgery. They gave him the money knowing he was injured and would not be ready. And then.
Jason Moore
But they did draft Dalvin Cook after the fact, of course. And same with Gio Bernard, by the way. Gio Bernard's being paid $5.1 million. The undrafted Joe Mixon.
Mike Wright
But Gio Bernard, he's another example where he was drafted in the second round. Everyone thought he was the better running back. He was the one who was drafted. Meanwhile, Ben Jarvis Green Ellis continued to be the workhorse for that team. So there are. Even with second round running backs, there are several examples of the incumbent still.
Jason Moore
Holding the agree he's going to be better than RB30.
Andy Holloway
I think Carlos Hyde is a running back to this year. And so when he's in the seventh round and falling maybe the eighth, ninth round by the time the season comes.
Jason Moore
Around, the problem is it's a zero sum game to me. If Chubb burns first and second, it's not like he's out there on third down. It's Duke Johnson's third down job. He got paid, right?
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Jason Moore
So if Chubb takes any carries from Carlos Hyde, where's he getting his value? Because how's he going to. They didn't score on the ground last year. Where's the value?
Andy Holloway
Well, I mean, you got to keep in mind, yeah, Duke Johnson's going to be there. He's going to be split out. He's going to be in the slot a lot of times. But you did see a lot of passing volume last year from Carlos Hyde. So I don't think he's going to be never out there on third down.
Jason Moore
Just because Duke Johnson, I would guess he's never out there on third down.
Mike Wright
Mike, I think that he will still be used. Duke Johnson will be the predominant third down.
Jason Moore
So he's the RB. If I can get 34 right now.
Andy Holloway
Right now off the board, the 34th running back, you can draft a guy who's been a top 15 running back the last two years.
Jason Moore
No, no, no.
Andy Holloway
I just got paid and is the starter.
Jason Moore
Those are separate arguments.
Andy Holloway
On an NBA team.
Jason Moore
If you can get a starter, that's. Yeah, if he's playing multiple sports, I.
Andy Holloway
Think it's actually really good value. Especially I mean if you look at.
Jason Moore
The chart, you can't argue the value.
Andy Holloway
And where he's going. He's not going to end at the seventh.
Jason Moore
He's still dropping even if you roll the dice. That's what mid round madness is about. If you roll the dice on him, it's not going to cost you an arm and a leg if it doesn't pan out. And the potential I think is the zero sum potential, which is he holding up where you're saying where he's a top 24 guy or you fail and it doesn't matter that much because he's the back of the seventh round. And I think it's only going to go, it's only going to get worse for him. The Chubb hype is only going to get more.
Andy Holloway
Agreed.
Jason Moore
All right, I'm going to go with Sammy.
Andy Holloway
Oh, I love it.
Jason Moore
Not biscuits. No, but Sammy Watkins. Right now he's being drafted as the wide receiver 32. And the way I think of Sammy Watkins is this. You know, he came into the NFL as this beautiful carved marble style statue for everyone to observe and hype up. And then years of erosion have, have, have chipped away at what we see and saw in Sammy Watkins, culminating in 39 receptions last year on 70 targets. He's the fourth highest paid wide receiver in football right now. Sammy Watkins.
Andy Holloway
Good for you, Sammy.
Jason Moore
And he's being, he's being moved around the formation in Kansas City. You have no established rapport between Mahomes and Hill any more than you have between Mahomes and Watkins. He's a weapon. He's still got four, four wheels. He's still six, one. And here's what I thought was very interesting. Over the last two years, the number 12 wide receiver in fantasy football, and this came from our case for Sammy Watkins as a wide receiver. One article on the website written by one of our fine writers.
Mike Wright
Crack riders.
Jason Moore
Crack, not crackpot crack. Over the last two years, the number 12 wide receiver has averaged 90 receptions, 1000 yards and 6.5 touchdowns. If I had to modify that for Sammy 80, 1100 7. I mean, somewhere in that kind of an adjustment, that seems very possible for Sammy Watkins to be in the 12 to 16 range. It's a great offense. It's an offense that has a quarterback that can accentuate the traits of Sammy Watkins. They paid big Money to bring him in. And I really like what that opportunity represents in the mid to late seventh round. It seems crazy to me the disparity between Watkins and Hill ADP wise. Yes, I've said that all off season. And Look, Watkins is 25 years old.
Mike Wright
Question for you. Because I am with you very much.
Jason Moore
You can polish that statue very, very.
Mike Wright
Much on Sammy Watkins. His value is incredible. Do you think there will be some hype and some upward movement in Sammy Watkins draft price come August?
Jason Moore
I don't think there's going to be a difference between now and then. I really don't. Because what are you going to see? I mean, you don't get to see regular season games with him. People are still burnt. Repeat. I thought we would have seen it already. Yeah, I'm surprised we haven't. Tyreek's going what, third round?
Mike Wright
Yeah, right around there.
Jason Moore
I mean. And Watkins is going seventh.
Andy Holloway
This is like fool me three times. You know, you just stop drafting him for those that believe.
Jason Moore
But at least you have a full reset. You know what I mean? Like you have an opportunity. And in his rookie season, I mean, he had a target share that was much more representative of what I think he'll get in Kansas City. I, you know, yeah, there are things working against him. I get it if you don't want to roll the dice, but you know, he wide receiver 32.
Andy Holloway
Oh.
Jason Moore
The opportunity to be much better than that is there.
Andy Holloway
I am so thrilled as the resident Sammy Walkett's truther over the last several years to have you on board. Andy, welcome. You can ride shotgun.
Mike Wright
I'm just shocked that you made it, Jason.
Andy Holloway
I mean, the car had a couple accidents along the way. You weathered a very flat tires. But we're still, we're still on the road. I think good things are in stock.
Mike Wright
Couple pit stops now. We're good to go. I want to talk about a running back going in the back of the seventh line.
Jason Moore
This guy has really become somebody you're waving the flag on.
Mike Wright
Yeah, maybe he's a my guy this season because I just did a double check on fantasy football calculator. This guy's going right after Carlos Hyde. So that would make him running back 35. If my, if my math holds up.
Andy Holloway
My calculation all correct.
Mike Wright
Marshawn lynch, he's old, I get it. But you know, apparently Gruden loves them old guys. He's all about it. Last year, the problem with Marshawn last year was the hype was so strong. People were incredibly excited because before he took the ear off we all remember beast mode. He was a locked and loaded staple running back. One you took Marshawn, you're set at running back because he was dominating the league. And so the hype got out of control. But here are the actual facts about how Marshawn did last year. He only had three games last year where he was outside of the top 36. He had 20% of his games as a running back. 1 40% as a running back, too. That puts him at 60% of the time. He was either a 1 or 2. That's better than Jordan Howard. That's better than Devontae Freeman.
Jason Moore
That's better. Felt like he was on a pitch count almost right. Like, especially like when he had 15 carries. They were like, all right, get off the field.
Mike Wright
Right?
Jason Moore
And he had those weird games where he was sitting on the bench for prolonged periods of time.
Mike Wright
Like I said, he had those three weird games. But his percentage as a running back, one or two was better than Howard, better than Freeman, better than Christian McCaffrey, who. Everyone loves Christian McCaffrey. This year they were the offensive line. While they were disappointed, they were still ranked out as a top 12. And Gruden, the last four years of his coaching first stint, let's call it his lead running back was getting 220 or more carries. Except for his final year where Ernest Graham went down with an ankle injury. But he was still pacing to be over that threshold of 220 carries. Marshawn lynch last year only he was in 15 games. He missed the one with the suspension. His pace, 221 carries, 950 yards and seven touchdowns. And he's going at the back of the seventh round.
Jason Moore
And he's a running back. I mean, that's the point made by Jason with Hyde and you with lynch is that look, if you, if you have a shot at a meaningful fantasy running back at this point in the draft, it's crazy. Here's the value, right? Jumping out off the page.
Andy Holloway
And I will say this. While I. While I worry a little bit about Marshawn lynch with Doug Martin, even though I think Doug Martin stinks. Doug Martin, I believe, is far worse than Nick Chubb in reality. So you score some points there now, Jason.
Mike Wright
I don't know, job security.
Jason Moore
I'm going to toss it back to Jason. But I don't know if you know this, if you could tell you love this one. This is the one I love. The other one was the one I didn't like so much. Yeah, well, this one. But come on, that's that's going back a long way. If you were on the train with Sammy for many years, whatever. The opposite of being on the bandwagon with Carlos side is what I've been on.
Andy Holloway
That is true. You've been a hide hater for a long time.
Jason Moore
What is that? What is the opposite of a bandwagon?
Mike Wright
It's called wrong the past two years.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, that's. That's true, Mike. Oh, that's good.
Mike Wright
Cheap shot.
Andy Holloway
All right, so this one is pronounced crowd. Jameson Crowder is going in the eighth round and I believe that he has every opportunity to finish as a wide receiver to this season. His.
Jason Moore
So that's his eighth round. I'm sorry, that's his PPR average. Draft position.
Mike Wright
Wide receiver 36.
Jason Moore
801.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. And I think he provides a good value. He got off to a really poor start last year. He had the hype given to him and then he was not good. In fact, Mike, you brought up the stats about targets versus fantasy finish and there were only in the top 30. There were only four real outliers and he was one of them. He was a guy that, you know, it was like, man, he really should have done better last year. And that's because of that slow start. After week nine. I don't think people realize how good Jameson Crowder was playing after week nine.
Mike Wright
Rest of the season we'd already given up on him.
Andy Holloway
Yeah. In full point PPR leagues he was wide receiver 14. Alex Smith now has three years running where he has supported a wide receiver. 2. And you have a lot of data on separation from like the new advanced metrics from the NFL showing that Crowder gets open and Alex Smith is a safe type of. I've heard Mike Taggs talk about it and you know, he believes that that's going to play a big role. I don't think Jordan Reed is going to be able to stay healthy. And Crowder to me is a great value there where you could have a guy with enough target volume to where you could play him every single week. Get those great weeks when he gets in the, in the end zone. When he doesn't, he's still solid and you're getting him in the eighth round.
Jason Moore
One of the things that's kind of fun to do is I like giving perspective across multiple years with players like Jamison. Crowder at this time last year in August, he was a PPR ADP of 601. Okay, so he's two rounds further back than he was last year. There was a lot of Hype last year. In fact, he was on our breakout show last year because we were expecting big things from him with the departure of Garcon and D. Jackson, all that so possible we were a year too early on Crowder. Between the bad start, the quarterback change, maybe fitting his role.
Andy Holloway
The quintessential post hype sleeper. When you hype a guy up a year early, you lose two rounds. So common. Yeah, you lose two rounds, you get even better value.
Mike Wright
It will be interesting for Crowder how things shake out with Jordan Reed because it is a new quarterback. You can't just put this blanket statement on. But we do know that when Jordan Reed was having success, Crowder really wouldn't. And then when Reed would get inevitably hurt, Crowder would really start to have all his success.
Andy Holloway
So this is almost why Crowder is going to have success.
Mike Wright
It's almost like a draft pick of Jameson Crowder is taking a hedge bet against the health of Jordan Reed, which is not a bad bet, unfortunately.
Jason Moore
All right, I get to close this out.
Mike Wright
You do.
Jason Moore
I'm going to bring up a player. I think I'm falling even more in love with him because of you out there. Those of you drafting, you're doing me wonderful favors. Cam Newton. Cam Newton is right now late seventh round, drafted as the seventh quarterback off the board. I've decided that I want Cam Newton in every league that I'm in. And last year, look he good to know. Last year he was my, my guy and he had a very good season. And here's the thing, he is the perfect combination to me because we disparage quarterbacks so much because you can get value everywhere else. But none of us disagree. When a quarterback does put up a monster week winning type of week, they can carry your team. We've seen this two years ago with Cam Newton and multiple years ago with Tom Brady. And Aaron Rodgers has done it. Peyton Manning has done it. The thing is, is we're saying, look, don't invest on the guests, right? Don't spend a second first, second, third round capital on who you hope can be a carrying guy. Cam Newton has not proven it once, not twice, not three times, not four times, five different times he's been. And listen to these fantasy finishes in his career. 3, 4, 3, 17 1. 17 2.
Andy Holloway
He's either sounds like a 17.
Jason Moore
Well, not. No, I mean you had 3, 4, 3. Jason.
Andy Holloway
I'm just looking at recent history.
Jason Moore
Recent history 117 2. Yeah, okay, if you're playing the back and forth. But my point is this. You're spinning basically an 8th round pick on him. You're either getting Cam, who's a number one or number two quarterback, or he's a bomb. And you can survive an eighth round, seventh round bomb. The odds in my look, you add DJ Moore. I love that you get. You basically add Greg Olson, okay, he was gone. You get the 700 yards, five to five to 700 on the ground. This is a good team. You get good Cam more often than not. And you get him at QB7. You could have the QB1 at QB7. And your odds, you actually have a percentage chance of getting that. Like a legitimate chance.
Mike Wright
Right.
Jason Moore
Of getting the QB1 at the QB7 value. To me, that is what mid round madness is all about. If I get to spend 6, 7 picks on other positions, then draft a guy who more often than not is a top three quarterback, that I'm just sitting pretty. I'm loving that. I'm loving that life. So, Cam Newton, I'm falling more in love with you than I was last year. So that's my case for Cam.
Mike Wright
I don't hate it.
Jason Moore
That's.
Andy Holloway
That's the kind of thing that means a lot.
Mike Wright
I know that.
Jason Moore
That means a lot to me.
Mike Wright
I thought a lot about what I was gonna say.
Jason Moore
Thank you.
Mike Wright
I stand by.
Jason Moore
Really. Words I really appreciate. I really appreciate it. I also appreciate our foot cleanse. Let's get into the mailbag.
Andy Holloway
Mailbag. Mailbag.
Jason Moore
I don't know if you watched the Minneapolis live show.
Mike Wright
I lost my eyebrows during the mailbag drop.
Jason Moore
But I'm pretty sure Jason was tearing up during that mailbag drop.
Andy Holloway
Cannot confirm or deny it was.
Mike Wright
It's such a great moment.
Jason Moore
Brooks, were you crying a little bit. Were you weeping in the back at how far we've come with this mailbag?
Mike Wright
Oh, yeah.
Jason Moore
I'm glad that no one. You couldn't see me back there. Good, good. I mean, that is.
Andy Holloway
So is everybody else.
Jason Moore
Can we get that cut out Brooks, to the audio so that anytime that Jason and I are stuck with the mailbag, we can have the foot clan behind us. Oh, that's a great idea. Isn't that a good idea?
Mike Wright
Yeah, that is a tremendous idea.
Jason Moore
Thank you.
Mike Wright
On so many levels.
Jason Moore
I mean, Jay Grizzy fills in admirably, but that was better.
Mike Wright
Saving the public from Jason's. What was the.
Andy Holloway
My sultry man.
Mike Wright
Seductive.
Jason Moore
Oh, that was terrifying. So good. Yeah. So take care of that, Brooks. And then Dallas, be ready. Yes, Dallas, be ready for the mailbag drop.
Andy Holloway
Couple weeks.
Jason Moore
That's right. All right, here's A question from Chris in North Carolina. By the way, if you have a question for the show, you can go to the website the fantasy footballers.com. click the submit a question button. You can also dial our voicemail hotline, 302464 TFFB. We love helping you win your league, Kristin. North Carolina. Starting a dynasty league this year. You recommended not doing playoffs in week 17, but ESPN has a two weeks per round playoff system default starting week 14. Making the championship depend on week 17. How do you do it one week per round or do you start the two weeks a week a bit earlier? Good question.
Andy Holloway
We, back in the day, we actually did do the two week playoffs and you know, sometimes you need to start earlier. We would never do a Week 17 championship, but I am a big proponent of the one week playoffs. I think that's, you know, look, that's, that's how football is, right? That's how the real playoffs are. It's not a series, it's you put up the best lineup this week, you win. And so yeah, in our league of record, our dynasty main league that we play in, in fact, I don't think I'm in a single league anymore that has two weeks per playoff matchup. It's unnecessary.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I used to be a big proponent of the two week matchups, but we're talking like five, six years ago. And I came to the light. I realized that, look, I only wanted to do that because I wanted to nullify the risk like a great. And it does do that. But it also means you have less teams in the playoffs in most leagues if that's the case and you run into situations like this. So I'm, I'm in agreement. All right, interesting. Luke in New Jersey, where do I draft Des today? So let's you draft as right now. Where do you draft him?
Mike Wright
Double digit rounds. Once you're in that 10th, 11th, I mean, you're grabbing sleepers, guys that you want to take a shot on. I am more than okay with grabbing DEZ Bryant there. Maybe he's washed. Maybe he's a wide receiver. One, the range of outcomes for Des Bryant are so wide that spending an 11th round pick on him I think is a wise thing to do.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, it's when you get to the spot in the draft, we don't actually really like the options available. I mean, that's where it is. That's kind of the tier, basic methodology.
Jason Moore
Would you draft DEZ Bryant or Kelvin Benjamin today?
Mike Wright
I would take this Bryant.
Andy Holloway
I would take Kelvin.
Jason Moore
Yeah, I think I Would take Kelvin, too.
Mike Wright
You're never going to play him.
Jason Moore
Which one?
Mike Wright
Kelvin.
Andy Holloway
I like it.
Jason Moore
All right, this question comes in from Andy in Pawnee, Indiana.
Mike Wright
Oh, Pawnee, huh?
Jason Moore
You know, Pawnee.
Andy Holloway
Hoity toity.
Jason Moore
I have Julio keepable just this season, and Michael Thomas. Michael Thomas keepable two more seasons. Julio always finishes with more points, but I feel like Mike is less Boomer bust. Who should I keep? Seems like you're weighing your situation there.
Mike Wright
I would keep Thomas. You can keep him for two years.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I don't usually look too much towards, like, essentially this would be like saying, okay, this guy's a year younger. I don't usually do that. But Thomas and Julio aren't that far apart. And look, Andy is right. Not our Andy, but this Andy in the sense that Michael Thomas is far more consistent. So if that's what you'd prefer, he might not score as many points on the year, but he also won't disappear on you quite as often.
Jason Moore
Zach and. Oh, goodness, that's a special place. Wyoming.
Andy Holloway
Nailed it.
Jason Moore
It's like a combination of Wyoming and missing Wyoming.
Mike Wright
Or it's a question, why you missing?
Andy Holloway
Well, bonjour.
Jason Moore
I know the notorious methods of the Dolphins offense hype department. Yes, they're very good there. Yet I often find myself hopping on board the train on Albert Wilson. Wow. Landry is gone. Tannehill is back. Is it crazy to be all in on a snake Nikki Wilson grabbed this year? No, I don't think it's crazy because I think unlike other situations where the height. Look, nobody's hyping them as a. As a AFC title contender. And so if things go south from a team perspective, you're still throwing the ball constantly. I mean, you. I think it's a. I think he's a sneaky, sneaky guy.
Andy Holloway
100%. When the hype train gets out of control, you're drafting people higher than you need to. Albert Wilson is currently not drafted in most leagues, so that's not too high. That's exactly. That's not too high. Take your shot. If you believe in him, it costs you nothing.
Mike Wright
It's. It's unfortunate for fantasy players that they signed two guys that they think can go into their slot with. With Wilson and Danny Amendola.
Jason Moore
If you had to just pick one, though, I would be picking Albert Wilson. I'm.
Mike Wright
He's following the money.
Jason Moore
He's younger. He has a longer track record of health, and the reports have all been very positive on both guys. But I think Albert Wilson does have a bigger. You know, we've kind of seen Amadola. And so I think from an upside unknown perspective, he's more attractive to me. Wilson, that is.
Andy Holloway
Well, and even if Amendola wins the job, Wilson will have it in short order based on everything we've seen from Danny and his ability to stay on the field.
Jason Moore
