Mike Wright
Hey, this is Kenyon Drake. You're listening to the Fantasy Footballers Podcast.
Andy Holloway
Welcome to the Fantasy Footballers Podcast coming to you from Draft.com Studios with your hosts, Andy Holloway, Jason Moore and Mike Wright.
Mike Wright
Ah, welcome in. Excuse me, Was that you?
Andy Holloway
It sounded like I belched.
Mike Wright
No Jason today. That's okay. We'll survive.
Andy Holloway
It's great. It's great.
Mike Wright
Welcome into the Fantasy Footballers Podcast. Yeah, we'll survive because we got J. Griz in the house.
Andy Holloway
Keeps it locked down, keeps it furry.
Mike Wright
Mike Wright is here. Brooks is here. Oh, yeah, always with the Orioles shirt. Always got the Orioles hoodie on. Brooks not have been a good year for the Orioles.
Andy Holloway
That's.
Mike Wright
We're done. We're talking football here, Andy.
Andy Holloway
Okay.
Mike Wright
Okay.
Andy Holloway
I thought he was gonna go with it. Well, that's like your opinion, man.
Mike Wright
We have a good show today. We have a special segment. Stash or trash, Mike?
Andy Holloway
Oh, very exciting.
Mike Wright
Or trash? We're gonna talk through late round picks, late round picks, and everybody faces. As a fantasy owner, you face tough decisions with those last picks because week one and two, here comes somebody you.
Andy Holloway
Want to sign that new hotness.
Mike Wright
Yeah, they emerge some third string wide out somewhere, caught two touchdowns on accident.
Andy Holloway
Are you talking about Ogletree?
Mike Wright
Yeah, I'm still remembering Ogletree. And now you have to decide who to drop. So this is a Stasher trash episode. We'll talk through some of the late round guys, will remind you of what happened last year and help identify the ones that you can let go, hopefully, and the ones that you can and need to hang on to. I'm not pleased with what Twitter has done in the last 24 hours.
Andy Holloway
Oh, what. What has the social media done to you?
Mike Wright
There's a lot of. Don't be an Andy out there right now.
Andy Holloway
Wait, this. This caught on?
Mike Wright
Well, yes, because of my Tyler Lockett mistake yesterday, where four minutes after I released Tyler Lockett into the waiver wire pool, he signed a long extension. And that somehow means he's great? It doesn't mean he's great, Brooks.
Andy Holloway
Well, it doesn't mean he's great, but it. To me, it means that Seattle views him as essential to the team and he's going to get an opportunity.
Mike Wright
Seattle doesn't know what they're doing.
Andy Holloway
Well, that also may be true. This team needs to get a hold of their lives.
Mike Wright
Now this Tyler. Now Tyler Lockett lives to destroy me. Yeah.
Andy Holloway
So if he breaks out.
Mike Wright
Sigh. We'll talk about it. Yeah, but a lot of don't be an Andy. Don't be an Andy. Hang on to. Hang on to guys until the last minute.
Andy Holloway
I'm glad you're at least leaning in. Embrace it. You got to accept it.
Mike Wright
I didn't say I was leaning in. Jay Grizz is leaning in. All right, Mike, let's jump into the quick question here. This one comes in. Is this Twitter? Brooks, where does this come from? Do you know? Oh, that was sent in to our.
Andy Holloway
Submit a question on the website.
Mike Wright
All right. Bonjour.
Andy Holloway
Bonjour.
Mike Wright
So someone from a distant land. Our league is using FAB for the first time this year.
Andy Holloway
Congratulations.
Mike Wright
Any tips? Should I be conservative with my FAB early on in the season? Thanks, guys. This is obviously subjective advice. How do you approach FAB and maybe explain briefly what it is in case someone out there doesn't know?
Andy Holloway
Sure. If you're new to fab, it is. FAAB stands for free agent.
Mike Wright
Free agent, not agent.
Andy Holloway
No, it's not an age one free agent acquisition budget. This is your way of acquiring players off of the waivers using a blind bidding system instead of the. The old school. Oh, well, I'm first in line.
Mike Wright
Yeah. It's not record based.
Andy Holloway
Get out of here with that nonsense. Open it up to the people. Let's make it a little bit more fair. Oh, this is from Slater in Alaska. Is that true, Brooks?
Mike Wright
Yes, sir.
Andy Holloway
Love it.
Mike Wright
So not in the contiguous United States. So therefore the bonjour is applicable. Is that what we understood here? Yeah, that's. That's from Alaska.
Andy Holloway
I'll allow it.
Mike Wright
They definitely speak French in Alaska. No doubt about it.
Andy Holloway
It's your first year with FAB if it's your league's overall. If these players have never used fab, I will say this. This is a tip for first time users of the system. People are going to be scared to spend that money, so you can be a little bit more aggressive trying to acquire guys, get those new hot players off of the waiver wire and you can get them a little bit cheaper because the league, they tend to, at least when I've been in leagues where there's players who are newer to the system, they don't want to spend. They want to save the money because they think if you finish the League with the most money that's going to benefit your team. Yeah, but surprise, it doesn't. You can't take it with you.
Mike Wright
No, you can't. And if you don't make the playoffs, then you just get to look at it. Yeah. So I generally take an aggressive approach with my fab.
Andy Holloway
I do, too.
Mike Wright
If there is a player that I believe I can acquire that will be a contributor to my team for a long period of time, I'm going to pay for them because there's no guarantee somebody else comes along later. Now you can play that, you know, wait for the running back injury in week nine and then grab the backup and hope you have something. But if I know I can get a couple years ago, Julian Edelman, you know, week four, all of a sudden available, I, you know, you just go after, go after him. So it is valuable to have some towards the end of the year.
Andy Holloway
That was my next point.
Mike Wright
Yeah. For things like picking up the right defense, the right, you know, bye week situation, you want to have some flexibility. But don't be afraid. You can't play scared. When you play scared in fantasy, most of the time you lose.
Andy Holloway
That is 100% true.
Mike Wright
All right. Jay Gris has no advice on the matter.
Andy Holloway
Also, when we talk the waiver wire show, which is the Tuesday episode when we are in season, we do talk fab amounts. We talk in generalities. Man, I'm having.
Mike Wright
No, no, no. You still got it wrong.
Andy Holloway
I got it wrong? Yeah. General. Nope, generalities. I'm adding an extra Al in there. Big Al hits fingers and he invades my language today.
Mike Wright
Big Al. Look, I didn't think this was possible, but your grammar is subpar compared to the bear, the cardboard bear we have on set.
Andy Holloway
I apologize.
Mike Wright
It's like you're feeling for nothing. You're filling in for Jason.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
Follow us on YouTube. YouTube.com fantasy footballer subscribe. Click the bell. You'll find out when we do live streams this year. Remember, every Sunday morning, Mike the fantasy hitman, right, is jumping on the live stream and you get to watch a grown man Tilt for one hour.
Andy Holloway
Wow. Whoa, whoa, whoa. 30 minutes for 30 minutes. Sorry, trying to do to me.
Mike Wright
Well, you tilt for an hour, but only 30 minutes is on the live stream.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
And you do 30 minutes of private tilting.
Andy Holloway
Yes, I do.
Mike Wright
The Website's the fantasy footballers.com is where you can submit questions. You can see articles. There are some great ones that just came out on the website, including defenses with favorable opening schedules. Make that decision on who you want to have on your roster for the first few weeks. There's some auction strategy. People ask for auction tips and tricks. We got a lot of that on the website and you just got to check it out. We got a great writing staff, some really smart people, good minds. Yeah, check it out. Ultimate draftkit.com if you're, if you're drafting this week, there's still time. Get in there, do your research, set the foundation for your league. And then a reminder, we're a week away from football.
Andy Holloway
Oh, my.
Mike Wright
Brooks is nodding with a big grin on his face. You're all done filming Billions. I mean, I think you're in the off season now. You can watch football there, judge. It's exciting stuff. Yeah. Let's get into the news.
Andy Holloway
News and notes from around the league. Are you looking for a drop over there?
Mike Wright
No, no, I don't have any money drops.
Andy Holloway
I'll just, I'll sing it while you talk about it.
Mike Wright
Packers sign quarterback Aaron rodgers to a four year, 134 million dollar extension. What did you say? Yesterday, you in the studio, you figured out paid. You figured out the money per day.
Andy Holloway
Oh, someone else had tweeted out about it that he will essentially, up until in sometime in March will be getting the equivalent of 400 grand a day.
Mike Wright
What do you even do with that kind of money?
Andy Holloway
I'd like to tell you, I'd love.
Mike Wright
To find out and report only situation that you panic to spend it.
Andy Holloway
You're like, aha, it's a Brewster's million situation piling up. I got too much money.
Mike Wright
And this is one of those signings where you're like, okay, that makes sense. It's Aaron Rodgers.
Andy Holloway
If I were an NFL team, I too would give Aaron Rodgers that amount of money.
Mike Wright
He also, I believe, doesn't even fall in the top 25 when it comes to NBA salaries.
Andy Holloway
Oh, yeah, they're. You're in the wrong sport if you're trying to make money. If that is your goal as a professional athlete. Do not play football.
Mike Wright
So Aaron Rodgers locked up. That deal's done. Odell Beckham Jr. Aaron Rodgers both done this week. You've got some situations like Aaron Donald, Aaron Donald in Los Angeles still unsigned or unextended, I guess. I mean, he's just waiting.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
And then Clay Mack. We don't know what's going to happen with Clay Mack.
Andy Holloway
And Oakland sounds like he's going to hold out.
Mike Wright
Yeah, it's just not good.
Andy Holloway
No, it's.
Mike Wright
Oakland needs.
Andy Holloway
He's a fantastic player. Word on the street is they're willing to trade him for two first round picks.
Mike Wright
Speaking of trades the ringers, Mike Lombardi reiterated on his latest GM street podcast that Randall Cobb is available for trade. We've heard the. Yes, he is. No, he isn't. He's probably not part of the future plans there. I mean, this is kind of when you look at Jordy and the old James Jones and Randall Cobb, that was the old weapons.
Andy Holloway
Yes. The old regime. So with this news yet again. So it's not really news, but the reiteration that Cobb is available. Are you. If you have a draft this weekend in the eighth round, are you still going in on Randall Cobb?
Mike Wright
Probably. Maybe not there. If he slips into the 10th round, I, I would take the shot on him.
Andy Holloway
Sure.
Mike Wright
It's sim. It's a similar situation to how you approach the running backs in Green Bay, where you have to. It's going to be a good offense. Aaron Rodgers making 400 grand a day to make that offense move.
Andy Holloway
That's just. That's amazing.
Mike Wright
It's. It's pretty good money. It's pretty good money. It's decent. Teddy Bridgewater. Teddy B. Traded from the jets to the New Orleans Saints. Really a masterful move by the Jets. They signed Bridgewater for about a million dollars and they ended up with a third round pick for that investment. They basically bought a third round pick. That's great work.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, it is. You have, you have your franchise quarterback, Sam Darnold, at least the perceived. And he will be given the opportunity for the next three or four years to prove himself. To buy a third for a million dollars.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Yeah. And the Jets. What this means is the jets have pretty much decided Sam. Sam Darnold's going to be the starter. Does this bring concern about some of their fantasy weapons? Mike, you know, things like Robbie Anderson had such a rapport with Josh McCann.
Andy Holloway
Sure.
Mike Wright
And the deep ball. Do you hesitate about Robbie Anderson because you don't know who the favorite target is for Sam Darnold?
Andy Holloway
I hesitate slightly just because we need to see Sam Darnold get it down the field, which we did not see a lot of in the preseason. And Josh McCown, if there's one thing that he is going to do, he's.
Mike Wright
Going to chuck it.
Andy Holloway
He's going to see how far he can throw the ball, which highlights what Robbie Anderson could do as a wide receiver.
Mike Wright
Josh McCown is almost double the age of Sam Darnold. Can you believe that?
Andy Holloway
That is unbelievable. Did you see the GIF that they caught on the sideline where they Went. They were both synchronized. Hair brush.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Yeah, I did. That was pretty funny.
Andy Holloway
It looked like a father. Son.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I was, I was a child when I first saw Josh McCown play. That's not a joke. I saw him before the Cardinals moved into their new stadium in Tim P.
Andy Holloway
I remember talking with my dad and I'm like, hey, hey, pops.
Mike Wright
Unbelievable.
Andy Holloway
I think that Josh McCowell's the real deal. He's a swell guy.
Mike Wright
It's funny. Young, young Mike Wright sounds a whole lot like the voice of public opinion. Just for the record. No, I don't. As well as Mickey Mouse.
Andy Holloway
No.
Mike Wright
Jordan Wilkins is the front runner to replace Marlon Mack in the starting lineup. If Mack isn't ready now, this is not a good looking offensive line. Do you care about this? I mean, do you roster Jordan Wilkins?
Andy Holloway
Yes, 100%. This is. We're going to get into stash or trash situations and Jordan Wilkins name is not in this list. But he is 100% a stash. You got to find out what's going to happen with the. With their running back situation. Andrew Luck, incredible quarterback. They should put points on the board eventually. Once, once the offense starts to really get moving and the running back will have value.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I agree with you. I think you have to. And you never know if a week one or two performance from a rookie establishes himself for the season. Maybe not. You know, it's probably going to be a platoon.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
But you could establish yourself. You could build something. I mean, Naim Hines has been every bit of the trash side of the.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, it's not going well for Hines. Marlon Mack with the hamstring injury which even if he comes back week one, a hamstring injury in training camp. You hate to see those because they tend to linger. They pop back up. And then once again, Robert Turbin, who probably was in line for a lot of work, had the PED suspension. He's gone four weeks. If Jordan Wilkins can string together four strong performances, I do believe that he can take over the role as the starting running back.
Mike Wright
I know that I cannot provide our listeners $400,000 a day fair. But we do have a giveaway we're doing right now.
Andy Holloway
We do.
Mike Wright
Because free stuff is cool. Like a free signed DeAndre Hopkins jersey. Couple copies of Madden and we're giving away the ultimate draft kit for life, which, you know, life expectancy is going up. Mike, is it? Oh, yeah, we're on the way back up. Yeah, this, this, this giveaway. A few years ago it wouldn't have been as lucrative but at this point, the way people are living, you're talking many, many years of the ultimate draft Kit.
Andy Holloway
Many, many years.
Mike Wright
How do you enter? You go to footclangiveaway.com and take your vitamins. Man, you win that thing, take your vitamins, you got so many ultimate draft kits coming your way. Or you win the, or you win the jersey. I mean, it's pretty good situation because it's free to enter.
Andy Holloway
All the prizes are good.
Mike Wright
Yeah, yeah, there's, there's all good prices. All right, we're moving on.
Andy Holloway
Stash or trash?
Mike Wright
Har har. You said you're, you're, you're telling me before the show, your boy, your middle.
Andy Holloway
Child, the middle boy is obsessed with Pirates of the Caribbean.
Mike Wright
Is it Jack? Is it all Jack Sparrow?
Andy Holloway
He loves Jack Sparrow. He's got the, the Halloween costume and it has resurfaced. And I will wake up on Saturday mornings and there is a miniature Jack Sparrow pillaging and just running through my house like a maniac.
Mike Wright
That's funny.
Andy Holloway
Also, if you want to know what we're talking about, the YouTube Fair Point, our video show on the YouTube. YouTube.com the fantasy footballers we are, we're trying to take this thing up a notch as we sprint toward the hundred thousand subscribers. And if you are not over there, you are definitely missing out.
Mike Wright
Yeah, there's a, there's a pirate themed animation to this. If you didn't recognize the, the fine guitar riff that, that mike busted out.
Andy Holloway
Well, it's a little piratey. Little bit. Little bit. Not completely.
Mike Wright
All right, Stasher, Trash examples from last year. I want to bring up some guys that went in the, for between the 10th and 14th round last year. Some that panned out, some that didn't pan out. So you, so you understand what we're talking about. If you remember us talking last year. Look, Corey Davis, rookie wideout, Darren Sprouls, Cole Beasley. A lot of hype around. Ah, Cole Beasley. Cole Beasley.
Andy Holloway
Because the Beasles, a couple years ago, he was infecting the nation.
Mike Wright
And then one that we brought up, Andy Dalton. Thought Andy Dalton could be a late round steal.
Andy Holloway
Nope.
Mike Wright
No, no, no. Those were guys that did not pan out. And if you held on to them on your roster for an extended period of time, they didn't do you any good. They just took up a roster spot when you could have signed somebody else.
Andy Holloway
They made your bench smell.
Mike Wright
Yeah, yeah. So who did pan out?
Andy Holloway
Well, Rex Burkhead came, came through. You had to hold on to him and wait because of the early on injury. Jamal Williams when, when given the opportunity. Robbie Anderson, Latavius Murray and of course the big one. If you drafted him late and held on, most people got him off the waiver wire. But that's why we are talking about these guys as Stash. You're drafting them late.
Mike Wright
You didn't say the name.
Andy Holloway
I. Well, I'm building up.
Mike Wright
Okay. Okay.
Andy Holloway
But super Camario, Alvin, Alvin Camara carried, carried people single handedly to fantasy championships.
Mike Wright
And there were people that stashed him and there were people that trashed.
Andy Holloway
Yes, that's the hard part about these late round guys. They're going late for a reason. But how much time should you allow them to sit on the bench and stash them?
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
And maybe they turn into some, some gold.
Mike Wright
So in some ways we are, we're discussing the merits of some players going in that range now. And I guess we'll be voting sure to some degree of whether we believe they're stash or trash.
Andy Holloway
And I think we can talk a little bit, you know, expiration date. When does the milk go bad?
Mike Wright
Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Because when you say stash, does that mean I just hold on indefinitely because halfway through the season. So he won't be in this list because he's a very high draft pick. But Kerryon Johnson. Yeah, you gotta stash him. You. It's not going to happen week one. It's probably not going to happen week two. But you, you got to believe in the talent and the opportunity that the Lions when they trade up in the second round for a running back, you would think sooner than later that he will get the opportunity to be the starting running back.
Mike Wright
And you have to make a decision on these guys. And it's sometimes it's subjective to your team and your makeup and how your season's going. Sure, if you're having a nice start to the season, you have a little more rope for hanging on to players.
Andy Holloway
Yes, you do.
Mike Wright
And if you're having a rough start, you may have to do some roster turnover. If you get some injuries that hit your team, you're going to have to cut bait sooner. But let's start with Josh Dachshund, wide receiver for The Washington Redskins, 14th round pick, perennial hype machine. Josh Dachshund has a lot of talent.
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Mike Wright
But you also have a lot of mouths to feed in Washington and you don't know what this offense is going to look like with Alex Smith behind center. Is Josh Dockson stash or trash?
Andy Holloway
Mike, he is a really tough guy because yes, it's his third year in the league, but for all intents and purposes, last year was really his rookie season. 500 yards, six touchdowns. He started to become more featured in the offense, but the catch percentage was. Was bad. 44.9%. You got to get that up into at least the mid-50s. If you're going to be the big play, touchdown type of receiver. I think he's worth it because in Washington, with Alex Smith as the new quarterback, you don't know how things are going to shake out with the targets. So he's worth a draft pick and you got to hold on to him. Probably. I would give it like two to three weeks, two to three weeks of stash to find out what I have in Josh Docks. And he. He's not a one weeker, unfortunately.
Mike Wright
He. He's a member of one of these teams where you almost have to put all the pass catchers in a little bucket and dump it in the sifter.
Andy Holloway
Right.
Mike Wright
For the first couple weeks of the season and see who comes out the bottom.
Andy Holloway
You feel like we talked about Alaska. You're up there with your pan.
Mike Wright
You're panning for gold.
Andy Holloway
Come on, Washington.
Mike Wright
And you do it in Jacksonville, right? Keelan Cole, Dante Moncrief, Dede Westbrook, drop on through. You hope that you end up with the right guy. There are also players, we should talk about this, where you know they're capable. Like Dachshund's an end zone threat.
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Mike Wright
So what happens if you go into the season and Dachshund scores the first couple weeks, but he does it on like two receptions? Does that make him a trade? Take that stash, turn it into some cash.
Andy Holloway
Ooh, speedy. If he's doing it on two receptions, it depends on the target count. If it's two targets, two receptions, and he's getting a touchdown every week, then I would look to move him because that's not the. That's not the type of sustainable pace you want.
Mike Wright
So you're buying a ticket on Dachshund to start the year. See what you have. See who Alex Smith likes.
Andy Holloway
Right.
Mike Wright
All right, so let's take a moment here and thank SeatGeek. Let's think SeatGeek. The smartest, easiest way to get tickets to every game all season long. When I want to go to a football game or a baseball game or a concert or an event, I like knowing that I can pull out my phone, open the Sea Geek app, click a couple buttons, and go. At this day and age, I don't need to think More than that. That's the maximum I want to think. I want to be planning what I'm going to wear.
Andy Holloway
What am I going to eat.
Mike Wright
That's exactly right. Because they search multiple ticket sites. They grade every ticket based on value and then they help you get the best ticket. It's not rocket science. It's almost like that little filter thing we just talked about. They dump all the ticket sites into it. You get the best price, they make it easy. Comedy, theater, concerts, sports games. My son is a Diamondbacks obsessed baseball fiend. We always use SeatGeek. Went to a game a couple weeks ago. We're going in a couple more weeks. Love it. It's on my phone. It's there when I need it. Best of all, our listeners get $20 off the first SeatGeek purchase. You download the SeatGeek app, you enter the promo code footballers. That's promo code footballers to get $20 off your first purchase. SeatGeek lifestyle event. We have the tickets.
Andy Holloway
We want to thank Pristine Auction for sponsoring today's show. Pristine Auction, the only sports memorabilia website that you need to visit ever, ever. Don't even think about going anywhere else because you don't need to. They got hundreds of new auctions every single day. You're always able to find a deal. I am perusing. I'm just having a little look, see a little peekski at what's going on on Pristine Auction today. It's apparently the day of the helmet because there are autographed full size helmets on here going for incredible prices. We're talking a Drew Brees full size helmet, a Saquon Barkley Jimmy the handsome one Garoppolo full size helmet. You, you want to get in on this memorabilia action.
Mike Wright
You want a handsome wall.
Andy Holloway
Whoo. You want your wall to be increase that handsome quotient.
Mike Wright
Yes, you probably important.
Andy Holloway
You need a Jimmy Garoppolo helmet. I cannot confirm or deny if his face comes with the helmet.
Mike Wright
You can also put a picture of me on the wall next to it.
Andy Holloway
We're talking about increase. Oh up crease as we say on the show. But Pristine oxen, that's where we go for all of our signed jerseys. Alvin Camara. Alvin Camara's up on our wall right now beaming, looking great. If you want to check things out, go to Pristine Auction. That's P R I S T I n e auction.com. your account is completely free to make. You let them know that the fantasy footballer sent you. It's completely free to bid. You only pay for what you Win. Trust me, you will not regret checking it out right now.
Mike Wright
All right. Stash or Trash? Rashard Matthews, Taywan Taylor, wide receivers for the Tennessee Titans. That hyped off season, right? Offensive change from exotic smash mouth to modern day hasn't looked so great in the preseason. And Rashad Matthews coming off the injury. Taylor. Taylor coming into his second season with more electricity to his name but less of a track record. So Sash or Trash for these two guys, do they fall in the same category as Josh Dachshund or do you just want to be hands off because, like, the upside isn't as high.
Andy Holloway
I am looking for guys that can pan out. They can become worth a lot. And right now, the Tennessee Titans are looking like LaFleur's gold.
Mike Wright
Oh, wow. Wow. Okay. Yeah.
Andy Holloway
Oh, come on.
Mike Wright
It's not bad, actually.
Andy Holloway
I need judge. I need a ruling on that one. I felt good about it.
Mike Wright
I was chuckling over here.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
All right.
Andy Holloway
A chuckle is all I need for a joke. That bad. Love.
Mike Wright
Fool's goal. Nice.
Andy Holloway
I don't want in.
Mike Wright
Okay.
Andy Holloway
I don't. I like Rashard Matthews. He's worth a roster spot. But you're right, the upside, if Corey Davis is to emerge, then Rashard Matthews, obviously he has to take a hit, a hit at his target share because Delaney Walker is still going to get Lewis. I love Rashad Matthews, but I don't want him at this point in the same can be said for Tayuan Taylor or Tajie Sharp.
Mike Wright
Well, let's put it this way. Would you rather. I mean, if you'd rather. You'd rather put Josh Dockson or Paul Richardson on your bench than Rashad Matthews or Taylor Taylor.
Andy Holloway
I would.
Mike Wright
Yeah, me too.
Andy Holloway
I would.
Mike Wright
I would too. Because here's the thing. Taewon's not a threat to take over the number one role. He's not the threat to take over the number two role. But at least Docs and or Richardson or somebody could emerge as the go to receiver.
Andy Holloway
And honestly, Rashard Matthews still could become that. But the injury, the complete lack of training camp and the draft capital of Corey Davis has me concerned.
Mike Wright
All right. Trash.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
Stasher. Trash. Geo Bernard. Running back for the Bengals behind Joe Mixon. I'm voting Trash. I don't want jail. I don't see an opportunity.
Andy Holloway
He's a roster clogger.
Mike Wright
He's a roster clogger. He's a name clog. Right? He's done some things in the past.
Andy Holloway
Oh, he's like name brand Drano, except it doesn't work.
Mike Wright
Sure they.
Andy Holloway
Sure they snuck the third party off brand in there.
Mike Wright
Couldn't have been more in line with what I was thinking. Absolutely. Exactly that.
Andy Holloway
I'm glad I'm here.
Mike Wright
Gio Bernard is not going. Look, even if Joe Mixon goes down, it's not going to be the whole Gio Bernard show. Now I would pick him up in that situation, no doubt about it. But you have Mark Walton there.
Andy Holloway
Mark Walton. Oh, man. Mark Walton has shown you nothing. I know nothing.
Mike Wright
I know.
Andy Holloway
My goodness. Mark Walton.
Mike Wright
Yeah. The Hyde didn't translate.
Andy Holloway
Come on, man.
Mike Wright
But Joe Bernard right now is a roster clock. You don't. It's a handcuff. That's I guess what the discerning aspect to this question is. Is Geo A.
Andy Holloway
Does he have standalone.
Mike Wright
Is he more than a handcuff? And I don't think he is.
Andy Holloway
I tend to agree with you. If you draft Gio Bernard, he. The nice thing about him, I believe is this is a one week. I can look at it for one week. Does he get involved in the passing game? Does he get that five or six targets? Because if he does, then he's. Then you know, you can hold on to him. You can stash him. So it's a quick turnaround. Knowing where I will stand with Gio Bernard after week one.
Mike Wright
Let's turn to a couple of running backs on the Detroit Lions. Theoretically, Garrett Blunt, they're both going in the 13th round. Back to back as a tandem, I guess just some friends in the 13th round. It's strange because every draft that I'm In, I see LeGarrett Blunt and I see Frank Gore late. Maybe you could rope him into this question. And nobody wants them.
Andy Holloway
And the interesting thing about that, because.
Mike Wright
They just feel like they're. They got that ceiling.
Andy Holloway
But Legarre Blunt, unlike Frank Gore, is actually the starting running back for this team.
Mike Wright
You have to stash LeGarrett blunt, don't you?
Andy Holloway
Yes. Because for the first few games, however long it takes of the transition to carry on Johnson look at Blunt will have value. They. And Theo Riddick should as well. He's. He's been all right in the preseason. He's got a little bit of action.
Mike Wright
And we know some juice. He has juice.
Andy Holloway
We know that the Detroit Lions, they, they throw to the running back position more than every team not named the Saints. So he, he certainly has. Riddick is. He's always been that late round value for years. But Kerryon Johnson, I think is screwing things up for people.
Mike Wright
Any doubt in your mind that Theo Riddick is on the field in every two minute drill for the season.
Andy Holloway
For the season. Yes.
Mike Wright
I have doubt for the first half of the season. No, see, he's very trustworthy in that offense. He knows the offense. He has the trust of Matthew Stafford. I would stash Blunt. I don't think I'd stash Riddick. Yeah, yeah. It's interesting, the whole starting running back thing. Right. Because I can bring up another guy that you're going to love. Devontae Booker. I haven't seen. I've seen devonte Booker go undrafted. I've seen him go late.
Andy Holloway
Booger. It's ridiculous. Did I hear a laugh from the. From over there on the side.
Mike Wright
Brooks. That gets you twice. Oh, yeah. Yes. Devonte Booger. This is a real.
Andy Holloway
He's the only booger that I don't pick, though.
Mike Wright
Oh, my goodness. I'm really enjoying today's show. This is outstanding. I'm not picking him either. He will stand. He will stand.
Andy Holloway
My parents would be so proud of me right now. You get paid for this and you got a draft.
Mike Wright
Yes. He's a fan as well.
Andy Holloway
It's gross. It is absolutely disgusting. But you should draft devontae Booker at his value.
Mike Wright
Here's the thing. Fantasy owners running backs don't grow on trees.
Andy Holloway
It's true.
Mike Wright
It doesn't matter whether they're pretty. It doesn't matter whether they smell right. They don't grow on trees. And two, three weeks into the season, you're going to have injury. You're going to work yourself into bye weeks and you're going to be scrambling. And if you're in a deeper league, 12, 14, 16 team league, it's even harder. These are mustache.
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Mike Wright
I believe I just said that they're mustaches.
Andy Holloway
You did.
Mike Wright
Yes. These are must stashes.
Andy Holloway
Oh, we. What is happening on today's show?
Mike Wright
It's just, it's what we do, Mike. So if you have a shot at a starter, no matter who it is, you got to put him on the bench. Mike has perfected this over the years in our league of record and in dynasty. He puts these guys on his team and you look at him and you say, yeah, that's gross.
Andy Holloway
It's. I don't play zero running back. That's not how I draft. But I do love to target the guys who are the top picks for zero running back teams. Peyton Barber, devonte Booker. These are guys that are going to have value right out of the gate. So don't, don't completely avoid them.
Mike Wright
John Ross, Martavis, Bryant, stash or trash?
Andy Holloway
John Ross is 100% a stash.
Mike Wright
What about Martavis?
Andy Holloway
No, thank you.
Mike Wright
Yeah, I think that's the way it's trending right now. Martavis has done nothing.
Andy Holloway
The opportunity is there because they, the Oakland Raiders have sent away Ryan Switzer. So right now, who are the top three wide receivers for Oakland?
Mike Wright
Amari Cooper, Jordy Nelson.
Andy Holloway
Jordy Nelson. And is it Martavis?
Mike Wright
It is not Martavis. Right now.
Andy Holloway
The correct answer is, I don't care. I don't. I'm not drafting Martavis.
Mike Wright
If you can't answer that question with a guaranteed Martavis Bryant, then he's not a stash to me. Yeah, because there are plenty of guys that can randomly score a touchdown, right?
Andy Holloway
That is true.
Mike Wright
Johnny Holton's there. Dwayne Harris is there. They're all competing for opportunity. So, yeah, I'm not. I'm not that excited.
Andy Holloway
Nope. Nor am I.
Mike Wright
The only way. Now, I will say this. If Jordy Nelson is done, right, if he's completely done, if he comes in, if he's Eric Decker of 2017 where you hoped, he comes in and establishes himself and becomes something, and you realize pretty quickly that he's. He's a. He's a mist, he's a ghost, then. Then Martavis becomes more interesting because Cooper hasn't had that, you know, guarantee production over the last couple of years. So you got a little bit of uncertainty ahead of him. But he's not a stash for me. He's a waiver wire pickup.
Andy Holloway
Yep. For me as well.
Mike Wright
And then John Ross, you're right. He's a guaranteed stash.
Andy Holloway
You got to see what they have. A top 10 draft pick in the NFL was injured, was sent to the bench for his fumble because his head coach, Marvin Lewis, number one, doesn't like rookies. And then a rookie made a mistake. That's a near death sentence.
Mike Wright
Who is the running back for Coughlin and David Wilson?
Andy Holloway
Oh, when David Wilson fumbled on his first carry, and then Coughlin was like, ah.
Mike Wright
Coughlin actually took him into the locker room, made him write his own eulogy. That's what he did. He said, you're going to write this up and you're done. Look, John Ross passed. He passes the remake his body eye test this preseason, he was. He's gone from a svelte, slightly undersized speedster to a guy that looks more like a prototypical wide receiver now. And even though he hasn't had a lot of volume, you have to look at him as a guy you Stash because there aren't a lot of pass catching weapons. Tyler Ifert's always banged up. We don't know Gio Bernard's involvement. Brandon LaFella is gone. It's A.J. green. And then it's. It's supposed to be John Ross. Yeah, it's supposed to be John Ross. Let's go with this before we jump into some mailbag. What about the late round handcuffs? Is there any late round handcuff stash that you grab for weeks one or two? I mean, you don't really live and die by predicting injury in fantasy football.
Andy Holloway
No, but you need to be prepared. And I was on another podcast and John Kelly's. We brought his name up and I was running back, running back, backup running back for the Los Angeles Rams. I was, and I was presenting it in the fashion of. Okay, week one, Todd Gurley is out for the season. How much of your fab goes on to John Kelly? And all three of us said everything. 100% of my budget will be going to obtain John Kelly from the waiver wire. And. And I don't like drafting handcuffs. But if there is a player that would command your entire budget for the season after week one, shouldn't you stash him?
Mike Wright
I don't know. I don't know. Now. Do you mean if you are the girly owner?
Andy Holloway
No, not even so.
Mike Wright
I don't think so. Because wouldn't you say you'd spend your entire fab budget on James Connor?
Andy Holloway
There are very few guys.
Mike Wright
Pittsburgh behind Lev Bell. What about Chase Edmonds in Arizona who seems locked and loaded as the number two rookie behind David Johnson? I think I would spend all my budget on Edmonds. I think I'd spend it all on Connor. I think I'd spend it all on Kelly.
Andy Holloway
I think those are. I'm trying to think any other situation. Those are the three guys that if something happened week one, would you spend.
Mike Wright
It all on Rod Smith?
Andy Holloway
Those are the four guys.
Mike Wright
Okay, so that's the backup, by the way, to Ezekiel Dallas.
Andy Holloway
But those. Because those are situations where the backup has immense talent and the opportunity.
Mike Wright
Kevin Coleman would be overwhelming.
Andy Holloway
Oh, no, he's. He's drafted in the single digits. These are guys who are either undrafted or go extremely.
Mike Wright
So the mindset there for a fantasy.
Andy Holloway
Owner is it depends on how big my bench is. I'll say.
Mike Wright
Yeah, that's what I would say. And it's a matter of, you know, those guys would become top 10 running backs immediately. So then you're saying, do you just take the shot like, we had somebody last year or the year before in our league of record. Every. Here's the thing that you can do there. I'll throw this strategy out there Sunday morning, you have somebody on your bench that you don't need to see that week. Why not throw James Conner, John Kelly, Chase Edmonds, Rod Smith on your bench when Sunday morning waivers goes through and then release them again on Tuesday when you pick up somebody else? So if they're out there and you grab them on Sunday morning because this happened in a league, left bell went down and all of a sudden, I think it was D'Angelo Williams at the time.
Andy Holloway
Yes.
Mike Wright
Someone had added him on Sunday morning. He didn't have to pay the fab. He had him. So if you have a deep enough bench, if you have a guy that you can let go of, like, would you let go of Gio Bernard on a Sunday morning to go pick up John Kelly?
Andy Holloway
Yes, I would.
Mike Wright
Okay. All right, let's get into the mailbag.
Andy Holloway
Mailbag, mailbag.
Mike Wright
I had to get J. Grizz in there with you. That was. I appreciate that joint effort.
Andy Holloway
If you have a question harmonizing with.
Mike Wright
The Bear, tough to do, tough to do. Only the best vocal artists can do that.
Andy Holloway
Thank you.
Mike Wright
Yeah. If you have a question, go to the website thefantasyfootballers.com, click the submit a question button or dial our voicemail hotline, 302464, TFFB. We're going to answer a voicemail question to kick off today's mailbag. Hey, Andy, Mike, and Jason. It's Brannigan from New York. I was wondering, why is Matt Ryan so undervalued in drafts? Why is he going so late? I pretty sure he had a great season two years ago, and then, yes, he struggled last year, but can he bounce back? Thanks, guys. Yeah, I mean, anybody can bounce back. Anybody can. You know, if you've proven yourself to be an MVP candidate and an MVP and a top quarterback, you can bounce back. You saw Cam Newton do that last year. Matt Ryan's been a bit of an enigma in that position, though. He's had, you know, several seasons in the top 10. He's also had several between 15 and 20. I mean, in the last five years, he's gone from 15 to 7 to 19 to 2 to 15. So do I think he'll bounce back maybe to 8 or 9? I don't think he's going to bounce back to 1 or 2 like he was two years ago?
Andy Holloway
Oh, I completely agree with that, but I'm Looking through his, his historical production, his touchdown percent, even with last year bringing it down, is 4.6%, meaning he throws a touchdown on every 4.6% of his attempts. So if that had come to fruition last year, he would have been at around the 24 touchdown mark, which still would be a bit disappointing the year I'm looking at to him bouncing back and then providing real value in 2014, just under 4,700 yards and 28 touchdowns. If you can get that from Matt Ryan, you're going to be extremely happy. And I think he can be very close to that. He's always been a yardage monster. It's up to Julio, because Julio is a yardage monster. But can we get some more touchdowns? Mr. Jones, I see a lot of.
Mike Wright
Similarity, similarities in the way that you would evaluate and look at Big Ben and Matt Ryan. Because when you give a player a quarterback, an elite weapon, Right. Like in the early years of Matthew Stafford, it was kind of like, well, he has a really good connection with Calvin Johnson.
Andy Holloway
Right.
Mike Wright
That's enough. Well, you got Julio, you got Antonio Brown, but you have quarterbacks that have been inconsistent in terms of fantasy finish over the last five years. I would still rather have a guy like Matthew Stafford over Matt Ryan. Yes.
Andy Holloway
Yeah, I don't blame you for that.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Because I feel like the Ryan's range of outcomes may be it's further in both directions. I'm going to get stability from Matthew Stafford.
Andy Holloway
Yeah.
Mike Wright
By the way, if you are mock drafting right now, go to draft.the fantasy footballers.com.
Andy Holloway
Oh, yeah.
Mike Wright
And you get to mock draft for free and then get a grade from myself, from Jason, from Mike about how you did. Maybe some things to, you know, improve.
Andy Holloway
Maybe some things to think about.
Mike Wright
Maybe. All right, let's get into another voicemail question. Hey, guys, it's Doc here in Atlanta. I'm having a little draft depression. I know you guys say you don't win your league at the draft, but.
Andy Holloway
I just had one and I feel terrible. I listen to the show every day.
Mike Wright
But I feel like in those later rounds I was just, you know, with.
Andy Holloway
My eyes closed through a labyrinth.
Mike Wright
It was terrible. And how do I get over this draft depression?
Andy Holloway
Thanks, guys.
Mike Wright
That's kind of funny. Yeah, I didn't feel great about my league of record draft, to be honest with you. I had several times when you have that you finally key in on a guy that you want to take and then right before your pick they go and nobody else jumps out and says, I'm the pick for this round and you feel like you settle or you feel like you make a decision that you're just up against the wall. How do you get over that? You remember what Jason always says. You don't win your league at the draft.
Andy Holloway
Set the foundation. And I'll say this. It sounds like you were happy with your early rounds, also known as your starting roster. So take solace in that. It's a weekly game. You got to win right now, and if your team is good to start week one, then you're fine. Worry about your depth a little bit later. No ragrets, as we like to say. And as the. The tattoo also reminds people.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Yeah. You. You've baked the cake.
Andy Holloway
You can do it.
Mike Wright
You got to eat it now. Marco in Austria.
Andy Holloway
I hope it's a good cake.
Mike Wright
Yeah. Marco in Austria.
Andy Holloway
Bonjour. That's.
Mike Wright
That's what I was waiting for there. Brooks. Yeah. Why is nobody talking about Nelson Aguilar? Alshon's out. Wallace is a good wide receiver, but he's more of a speedster. Alshon is gone. Aguilar had eight TDs last year. He's drafted as the wide receiver. 42. I would be extremely happy to have him as my wide receiver. 3 says Marco in Austria. Am I missing something? No, you're not missing anything, in my opinion. I've said all off season, I think Nelson Aguilar, before any of this news about Alshon, you have said. I've said he's the number one wide receiver on Philadelphia. However, the number one wide receiver on Philadelphia does not mean the same thing as it means on other teams. Brooks is nodding in approval of that statement. It's the truth. They spread the ball around. They. They do that in the backfield. They. They spread the workout across multiple backs, and they do it in the passing game. I do like Aguilar. I think he is a value.
Andy Holloway
I think he can be a value as well. The. The fact that you highlight the eight touchdowns, that's. That's my problem with all of Philadelphia is the. The natural touchdown regression that I see happening for Carson Wentz or whoever is playing for quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. It's just what they did last year is not something that can happen every single year. And Nelson Aguilar was a huge benefactor from that. Eight touchdowns on 62 receptions.
Mike Wright
Yep.
Andy Holloway
For. For Aguilar, who. He's. He's a fine wide receiver. I'm happy that he broke out, but I don't see him as an eight touchdown guy.
Mike Wright
Corey and Buffalo Mike, this question will Speak to you because he says, how early would you take Rob Gronkowski in a 16 team PPR league? Ooh, 16 team. Would you take him in the late first?
Andy Holloway
No.
Mike Wright
Okay.
Andy Holloway
No, it actually goes later for me in a 16 team.
Mike Wright
Really?
Andy Holloway
Yeah. Because you're running back depth and your wide receiver depth, it is really hard to overcome starting off with Gronk if you, if you take him even early in the second round. I've talked about, if I'm in a 12 team league and I'm in the second half of the second round, then I take him. So there's no way I'm taking him earlier in a team that is larger. The earliest I would take him would be the end of the second round. I'm close to the turn. I know I can play the game that I. Okay, I'll grab Gronk here because I know that there's three or four running backs left in the usable tier, so one of them will make it back to me.
Mike Wright
All right, I think we're about done, Mike. I think we've made it through. Jason will be back tomorrow. We'll have some good stuff on the show ahead of week one. Hopefully you're subscribing, whether that's Google podcasts, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio, wherever you're listening. We appreciate you subscribing and listening to the show.

Fantasy Footballers Podcast Summary Episode: "Stash or Trash + FAAB Tips, Handcuff Strategies" Release Date: August 30, 2018
In this episode of the Fantasy Footballers Podcast, hosts Andy Holloway and Mike "The Fantasy Hitman" Wright delve into crucial strategies for managing late-round picks, optimizing your Free Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB), and implementing effective handcuff strategies. The absence of Jason Moore is humorously noted, but the hosts assure listeners that the show remains as insightful and entertaining as ever.
Mike Wright (02:00):
"People are going to be scared to spend that money, so you can be a little bit more aggressive trying to acquire guys, get those new hot players off of the waiver wire and you can get them a little bit cheaper."
Andy Holloway (05:45):
"I generally take an aggressive approach with my FAAB."
Key Insights:
Aggressive Bidding: Early in the season, especially in leagues transitioning to FAAB, it can be advantageous to be proactive in bidding for emerging players. This approach can secure valuable assets at lower costs before other managers recognize their potential.
Flexibility: Maintaining FAAB funds towards the end of the season provides flexibility for crucial pickups, such as favorable defenses or players benefitting from specific bye weeks.
Avoid Playing Scared: Both hosts emphasize that being overly cautious with FAAB can lead to missed opportunities. Taking calculated risks can often result in significant rewards.
The "Stash or Trash" segment focuses on determining the value of late-round draft picks, discussing which players merit holding onto (stash) and which should be released (trash).
Players Discussed:
Josh Dachshund (WR, Washington Redskins) (20:03)
Andy Holloway (21:21):
"Mike, he is a really tough guy... If you're going to be the big play, touchdown type of receiver. I think he's worth it because in Washington, with Alex Smith as the new quarterback, you don't know how things are going to shake out with the targets."
Mike Wright (22:18):
"He's a member of one of these teams where you almost have to put all the pass catchers in a little bucket and dump it in the sifter."
Decision: Stash
Rationale: Despite uncertainties with the new quarterback, Dachshund's potential as a touchdown scorer makes him a worthwhile pick to monitor and keep.
Rashard Matthews & Taywan Taylor (WRs, Tennessee Titans) (26:45)
"I like Rashard Matthews, but I don't want him at this point in the same can be said for Tayuan Taylor."
Decision: Trash
Rationale: Concerns about investment opportunities and competition from other receivers diminish their value.
Gio Bernard (RB, Cincinnati Bengals) (28:39)
Mike Wright (28:52):
"He's a roster clogger. He's a name clogger."
Andy Holloway (29:02):
"He doesn't have standalone value."
Decision: Trash
Rationale: Bernard serves primarily as a handcuff without substantial potential for standalone production.
LeGarrett Blunt & Theo Riddick (RBs, Detroit Lions) (30:14)
Andy Holloway (30:53):
"You have to stash LeGarrett Blunt because for the first few games, however long it takes Robert Johnson to look at Blunt and Theo Riddick should as well."
Mike Wright (31:10):
"I would stash Blunt. I don't think I'd stash Riddick."
Decision:
Rationale: Blunt is the starting RB and offers immediate value, while Riddick remains a reliable option without the late-round investment risk.
Devonte Booker (RB, Undrafted) (32:07)
"Don't completely avoid them."
Decision: Stash
Rationale: Despite unappealing traits, Booker's potential as a must-have running back justifies a late-round stash.
John Ross & Martavis Bryant (WRs, Oakland Raiders) (34:11)
Andy Holloway (34:15):
"John Ross is 100% a stash."
Mike Wright (34:21):
"Martavis is a waiver wire pickup."
Decision:
Rationale: Ross offers guaranteed value as a stash, while Bryant lacks the reliable upside expected from a stash pick.
Andy Holloway (37:22):
"You need to be prepared... if you're the backup running back with immense talent and opportunity, you should consider stashing them."
Mike Wright (38:15):
"Chase Edmonds, Rod Smith... If something happened week one, would you grab them?"
Key Insights:
Prioritize High-Impact Handcuffs: Focus on drafting handcuffs for running backs who are primary backups with significant upside, such as James Conner or John Kelly.
Budget Allocation: In scenarios where a starting RB is injured, having a high-potential handcuff can be invaluable. However, allocating your entire FAAB to a single handcuff may not be advisable unless the backup has proven high value.
Dynamic Roster Management: Utilize your bench space strategically to incorporate potential handcuffs, especially if your team experiences early-season injuries or underperformance.
Question 1: Matthew Ryan's Undervaluation in Drafts (40:20)
Andy Holloway (41:49):
"His touchdown percent, even with last year bringing it down, is 4.6%, meaning he throws a touchdown on every 4.6% of his attempts."
Mike Wright (43:00):
"I would still rather have a guy like Matthew Stafford over Matt Ryan."
Advice: Matt Ryan has shown variability in his fantasy performance, making him a riskier pick. Comparatively, more stable quarterbacks like Matthew Stafford may offer greater reliability.
Question 2: Draft Depression After a Difficult Draft (43:35)
Andy Holloway (44:00):
"Set the foundation. Take solace in your early-round picks and focus on winning week-to-week."
Mike Wright (44:43):
"You baked the cake, you have to eat it now."
Advice: Focus on the strengths of your drafted roster, prioritize starting lineup success, and remain adaptable throughout the season to overcome initial draft setbacks.
Question 3: Nelson Aguliar's Lack of Attention (45:17)
Andy Holloway (46:25):
"Nelson Aguilar was a huge benefactor from Carson Wentz's performance last year, but his touchdown numbers may not sustain."
Mike Wright (46:57):
"Corey and Buffalo Mike... Alshon is gone, but Nelson Aguilar remains a value pick due to his potential involvement."
Advice: Aguliar remains a valuable pick due to his role in the Eagles' offense, but his high touchdown dependency could lead to regression. Monitor his target share and offensive performance early in the season.
Question 4: Drafting Rob Gronkowski in a 16-Team PPR League (47:07)
Andy Holloway (47:21):
"The earliest I would take him would be the end of the second round."
Mike Wright (48:00):
"In 16-team leagues, depth is crucial. Gronkowski provides a high ceiling but should be balanced with strong running back and wide receiver options."
Advice: In larger leagues, prioritize depth in running back and wide receiver positions before investing in high-ceiling tight ends like Gronkowski. Secure foundational players first to ensure weekly competitiveness.
Andy and Mike wrap up the episode by encouraging listeners to engage with their community, participate in giveaways, and stay tuned for future insights. They emphasize the importance of strategic drafting, flexibility in roster management, and the continuous evaluation of players throughout the fantasy football season.
