Park it right here. It's time for the tailgate. It's me, Joey P. Joe P. Zapia. Tailgate. NFL is the channel, and I'm here to do my best friend, Scott Bogman and dbro Derrick Brown, the king of bros. We're here talking about all the fallout from the NFL draft. And boys, I like this. I like when you have a little bit of time for everything to settle down a little bit from the draft because everyone's so in it and hot takey about everything. But sometimes I think you got to let it breathe a little bit. You got to let it come calm down a little bit before you get a good assessment. And today we're gonna talk about the winners, the losers. We're going to talk about the big headlines. We're going to talk about some of the drama that was going on. But Bogs, before we talk about anything, we got to talk about this hat that you're jealous of because I was at the NFL draft and it was 80 degrees and my ball dome needed a hat. And check this hat out, too. It's fitted and underneath. Check it out. It's got the skyline of Pittsburgh underneath, just 29.99. Dbro was stunned. I've got my Mr. Rogers Pittsburgh shirt on right here, and I've got my little chain as well. So I've gone full yinzer here with just three days in Pittsburgh box. That's what happened.
B
I love it.
C
I love it. I gave you my address, so I expect you to send all that stuff to me.
A
Well, I did send you something. It's a surprise. It fit in an envelope. That's all I'm gonna tell you. And no, these colors don't look good on me. This is the one and only time you're gonna see this. But.
C
But I think they look great.
A
But what we did was see this. This chain right here.
B
You look like a bottle of mustard.
A
So not only do we have an NFL draft on Thursday, but after the games, after everything on Thursday, draft wise, Friday, we had to move to another hotel because my girl's 14U flag football squad was playing in the regional national tournament in Pittsburgh. And we use this bad boy as our touchdown chains. You score a touchdown, you get to wear the chain and do a little dance, which we made it to the finals. We lost in the final. So now it's on to Philadelphia. But we're going to talk about all the headlines. And let's start here with the biggest headline, fellas, which is the Las Vegas quarterback, Fernando Mendoza. So Kirk Cousins obviously got a lot of money, and a lot of people think it could be a couple weeks of Kirk Cousins. I'm still going to be on this island thinking that he's the number one overall pick. He's a smart kid. He's a tough kid. He's a winner. The future should just start now. Just let him learn on the fly. That's where I'm at. Debro. I know you disagree with me, so it's a perfect place to start here. So go ahead, tell me why I'm wrong. Why Fernando Mendoza isn't going to start week one when I know that he is.
C
What?
B
Have you not listened to your bff, the. The man which you. You pray to the altar of Tom Brady? Like, have you not listened to him? Like. He does not want Mendoza to be the week one starter. He wants him to sit and learn. Kirk Cousins is going to start week one. I will make the bet. I made it on a previous show already today. Double down. And I will make it again. Joey. Kirk Cousins will be the Week 1 starter for the Raiders. I'm not saying I disagree or agree with it. I'm just telling you Brady's voice in that room carries more weight than anybody else's. And I don't think we see Mendoza until maybe the beginning, or, excuse me, maybe the middle of the season. I also won't be shocked if this is a total red shirt year for him.
C
Oh,
B
coffee.
C
Zero percent chance.
A
No. No. All right, now I'm turning my hat around because we're getting serious.
B
I'll take that.
A
This is where we're getting serious now. Now I play dfs. Look at me. My hat' backwards. All right, look. So let's talk about Boggs. Tom Brady. His voice is in the booth. That's where his voice is. Okay? He's a part owner. I don't. He's not.
C
I don't buy that, Joe. Oh, I'm gonna Push back on both of you guys.
A
Okay, here.
C
I, I, this, this is what I'm thinking. I think it's like three to four weeks for Cousins and then Mendoza comes in. There is not a chance in hell. It's the whole season because Cousin sucks, right? So Cousins starts the year. This is what you should do. I think there is a chance that Cousins doesn't start any games. I think there's a better chance that Cousins start zero games than Mendoza starts zero games. T, bro. So I think it's going to be three weeks to, to a month. We're going to see how bad Kirk Cousins still is, and then they're going to say we're all in four, we're one in three. Whatever it is, screw this. Put in the kid. Let him go. I think that is exactly what it's going to be. I don't think it's. There's no way in my eyes it goes beyond six weeks because they'd have to start five and one. And I don't think there's any world where the raiders are starting five and one or four and two or anything above.500 over six weeks.
B
So I think the wins, the win and losses actually matter to the Raiders this year when they're still rebuilding that entire roster.
C
Wins and losses matter. So.
A
Yeah, see, that's what I said, too. We just did a show and I said the same thing where I felt like when in a year where, look, I get it, it's a tough division. The Broncos might be the best team in the afc. The Chargers are a very good team. I got an interesting offensive coordinator this season. But the Chiefs don't have Mahomes to start the year. They're kind of in a weird in between. There's a lot of, like, worst to first. I'm not saying that the Raiders are going to do that, but can the Raiders certainly get to more of a 500 sort of expectation? I think it's possible. What does that year look like, though? Let's, let's throw out like, yardage numbers, touchdowns, bogs. What do you have in mind for Mendoza when you're thinking about what kind of impact he's going to make with the tools that he's got around him.
C
Like, you know, I mean, honestly, it's hard to do this line without knowing how many games.
A
Well, let's go by your. Let's say he plays, let's say 27 yards, 12 games.
C
He plays 2700 yards in like 20 touchdowns. Hopefully less than 10 picks.
A
All right, D. Bro, you Want to go the under and all that stuff?
B
Yeah, I'll probably take the under on it. I think they'll probably be a run heavy offense. If he does make that many starts, then they're really going to try to ease him in. You're going to see a lot of genty, a lot of Mike Washington, a lot of run the freaking football. So I think the yardage line is probably about right. I'll take the under on the touchdowns.
A
All right, well, let's move on to the next headline too, because this one was way more fun to talk about. Not the Mendoza isn't a good time, but all this stuff going on with the Rams was crazy. So the Rams are not one to have a lot of early picks, right? We always say FM picks, right? Sean McVeigh. Well, they had an early pick and they kept it real quiet.
B
Guys.
A
Guys. They kept it really quiet that they were going to take Ty Simpson because they didn't want everybody else in the league to know that they had their head up their ass because they wanted to take Ty Simpson with a first round pick. So what I love most about this is the initial take here was that Sean McVay at the press conference giving very bad body language. The rumors going out that Sean McVay didn't talk to Ty Simpson and all that. They had never talked. Then it was Sean McVeigh never talks to first round picks or any picks for that matter. And then it was, of course we picked, we talked on the down low. It was quiet. So is this damage control? Is there smoke to the fire? I'm just curious because if I'm Matthew Stafford and I'm a couple games away at the twilight of my career to win a Super bowl and we got a first round pick and we're taking a backup quarterback with who's a project guy, possibly. I'm pissed if I'm Sean McVeigh at this point with the quarterback I've got when I'm so close to winning another Super Bowl, I'm pissed. Dbro, what's the truth here in the Rams headline?
B
I think the truth is just go watch the phone call that he had with Ty Simpson. Can anybody walk away like, like, fine. Like, let's not even talk about the Post presser vibes. Does anybody watch that phone call? And if you haven't seen the video, I urge you to go Google it. Look it up on YouTube right now. If anybody walks away from that video with like just glowing vibes, I don't know what the hell you're Watching honestly, like, shot like, Ty Simpson's like, we're to do his storage things. Coach and Sean. Yeah, yeah, yeah, go. Go have fun with your family.
A
Go have fun with your family. Yeah.
B
Like, dude, like, I just. If this was this entire pick and their. Their approach to this draft was asinine to me, where it was like, it felt like they were like, we're just playing with house money. It's all good. You know, we're just gonna plan for. For the next year and the next 10 years and stuff. Like, everybody keeps throwing out the Jordan love stuff and things like. Like, other teams have done stuff like this, like, and it's not worked out well. And they're all like, oh, well, if you think Makaya Lemon or whoever they would have taken is going to put them over the top. And Orlovsky using, like, this whole, like, let's just button up. Like, let's average all rookie wide receivers. And if you think they're 52 yards and four receiving touchdowns. No, but let's have a real conversation. If you think Ty Simpson or Max Claire, let's throw him into this conversation, who's a tight end, four in this freaking depth chart, is going to help them put them over the top for a Super bowl this year. You're also drunk and you're insane because that's just crazy talk. Because, like, fine, you're in the position of, I need to take my quarterback this year. They're also talking extension with Matthew Stafford if he plays another two to three years. That everybody's talking about this situation and what the Rams did. Does anybody. Can anybody definitively sit here right now as we're discussing this and say that Sean McVeigh will definitively be because the guy that has been rumored to maybe leave LA and go into the broadcast booth. Can anybody say with 100 certainty Sean McVeigh will still be the coach of the Rams if they go out and they win? Say they get Stafford for two more
A
years if Stafford and him win a Super Bowl. I think they both just walk away. I really do.
B
And then it's like, is the head coach they bring in, is he going to be married to Ty Simpson? If Ty Simpson even hit?
A
Well, it depends at what state you're in and how legal that is.
B
Outlier of outliers, guys.
A
Bogs, this is.
B
This is idiocy to me.
A
The Asylum assassin, Scott Bogman is sitting there quietly, and I can't wait to hear his take on this. Because, Bogs, you talk about Jordan Love. Jordan Love was a 26th overall pick like that, I kind of get that. Like, maybe there weren't a lot of guys you thought could really help you in that year. You're starting to look ahead to the. This was the 13th overall pick. This is a double the draft capital. And I just have a hard time wrapping my mind around this box.
C
Yeah, I don't like it. I'll start there. First of all, if you want Ty Simpson, I think exactly what you said, Joe. You trade back from 13. Do you think there were any teams clamoring and if there were, let them take them. And it's not because, you know, it's not because they don't need a plan. They have to have a plan. And really, I mean, Jesus, their plan was Stetson Bennett, right. So they had to have somebody else. I understand taking a quarterback specifically in this draft where there seems to be a decent amount of guys that can hold a clipboard for, you know, the majority of their career. I think that's what we have in this class. So if you like Ty Simpson this much, that's great. Try to earn some draft capital and move back if you can to take him late. I think everything that DBRO said applies. As you know, McVeigh could easily be gone from this job. And I think the most egregious part of this is twofold. Number one, it's that next year, Stafford, you know, Stafford and McVeigh can walk away. And who knows, like you guys said this, the next coaching staff doesn't need to be balded to Ty Simpson at all.
A
No.
C
Don't even like him a little. And next year, if that is in your plan, if you're less sneed and you plan on being with the Rams for longer than this year, I. The. The class next year seems to be laced with quarterbacks all throughout the first round. So even if you trade back and you gain draft capital for this draft and maybe next year's draft, right. You should be able to take a quarterback in next year's class if you miss out on Ty Simpson by moving back, even if you like him. So I just don't think a lot of consideration was made. Enough consideration was made. He's very weird to try to move back to. To, you know, because I get it, you need. You need a plan beyond Stafford and this is it now, but this is it. You're pot committed at pick 13. This is.
A
Well, I think you made the best point, which is like the new regime that could come in, like they're gonna want to pick their own guys like that's what they're gonna. They coach is probably not gonna want to be stuck with Ty Simpson as the successor necessarily.
C
Yeah. You know, I mean, look, perfect example is Pittsburgh. McCarthy comes in and we think, okay, well if it's not a rod, it's going to be battle between Rudolph and Howard and then they go and draft Aller, which makes no sense to me. He's got to be ahead of Howard because this group drafted him.
A
Probably. Yeah, I would agree with you.
B
Last point I want to make on this is that everybody talks about building for the future in a Super bowl window and a go for it type of year. And they're like. And again, going back to their Orlovsky point, they're like, oh, is the rookie wide receiver. Yeah, the rookie wide receiver could look pretty damn good when we don't know what we're getting out of Puka Nakua this year. He has an injury history. Devonte Adams isn't getting any freaking younger. And you didn't address wide receiver.
C
It's okay. They got C.J. daniels. Oh yeah, they got C.J.
B
daniels and they got Jordan Whittington and they got. And they got a tight end four that they drafted. Yeah, that all looks great and granite. Except it could go out the window and they could have no super bowl chance if Stafford gets hurt or these wide receiver gets hurt. By the middle of the season, they
C
should have taken a wide receiver there and tried to take Carson back or somebody later. You know, there's somebody better than Bennett.
B
You have a chance to win, to push your odds to win a Super Bowl.
A
I agree.
B
How often do teams even get this freaking chance? Like you're thinking about the next year, thinking about going and winning a ring now.
A
I agree. Man, it was so bizarre. I don't understand it. Speaking of bizarre, real quick, I just
C
want to make the point that if you don't develop someone, you end up with Kenny Pickett and Aaron Rodgers at the end of it.
A
Yes and no, Boggs. Because next year is a much more potentially bountiful class of quarterback.
C
It is.
A
And if you're willing to move more draft capital to move up to get one of those guys, why would you waste a first round pick this year when maybe. I agree. I don't. It just doesn't make any sense to me.
C
I, I get, I get the point of drafting a quarterback. I just think they went about it
A
the wrong, the timing of it with the pick that they use. It was just wrong. I don't think they were fighting anybody. All right, now The Arizona Cardinals, weird off season, right? They spent some money on Tyler Algeria and we all went, oh, look at that. Tyler Algier is going to be a starting running back. And then somewhere in the last like four weeks they've decided that no, you know what? Jeremiah Love is probably the best pick we can make here. We're just gonna make it now. We could have told you that two months ago, three months ago, even. Bogs, why did the Cardinals go the route of Algier only to turn around and take Jordan? I mean, Jeremiah Love, it just seems like a very strange choice here for them. Not because it's not the right choice, but again, it's like the decision making process seems disjointed between whatever the scouting department into the general manager into the coach and I know it was turnover in the offseason, all that stuff too. It just feels like a weird path to get there when you could have spent the cap money other places on this team.
C
This is a complete mismanagement by Monty Austin Ford and the group in Arizona. That's what my opinion is. Jeremiah Love is a great pick at three. He is the best pick 1000 you could have made at three. But he is not the best pick for the work that you put in in the off season, which is what we thought. You know, when you go out and you. My thought was, okay, you get Algier, you're cutting Connor. They didn't, they restructured him and everyone says he'll be gone before the season starts. He was announcing their draft picks. I don't think you usually typically do that with a guy you think is going to be cut before the season starts. All the writing on the wall says he should be gone. But I think they could still trade Trey Benson as well because obviously again, Arizona does nothing right. So this is a new regime immediately in Arizona after the other new regime. So I. They're clearly going to be run first team with all, with the bad quarterback play and all of these running backs that they have. So this is a great pick for the Cardinals. Jeremiah Love is. It doesn't matter where he goes. Jeremiah Love is a, it's a great running back.
A
Of course it's a great pick. It's just an odd, it's just idiocy
C
to have Tyler Algiers signed to a long term deal. Restructure trait. James Conner and still have Trey Benson on this roster. And take Jeremiah Love. It was piss poor management from the top down before the draft. During the draft. This is the right pick. But I think even if you Made all those moves. Give me a Sonny Styles, give me a Caleb Downs, give me someone to lead my defense.
A
I get like last year they spent all their picks on defense. So I appreciate, like you said, we all agree that they got to the right, but the process to get there, dbro, was freaking weird.
B
I think this all screams that Michael Bidwell is just doesn't sit down and shut up. This feels like the owner picked this guy to sell tickets and stuff like that. Tell me I'm wrong guy.
A
Well, but I think it's the right.
C
I mean, they, they. Steve Machadi negotiates a pick. I think Bidwell and Jerry Jones just go in and make it.
B
The Ravens give the owner the fifth round pick and the Arizona Cardinals give them. Give their owner the 103. So, you know.
A
Well, it's nice when you let old people do things. They feel stronger. You know, it's like, you know, you let them drive the car on the parking lot, stuff like that. It's good. It's good for morale.
B
Something to be said for cheap coffee, but not the 103.
C
Note to self, let Joe drive the car.
B
That's scary. You might not want to do that.
A
Fair enough. Hold on. Where's my old man Glasses? Wait, wait. There we go. Now I can see the next headline. All right, where is it? Let's take a look here. What do you have? Next time, read it.
B
Read it aloud, Magoo.
A
Wide receivers, you got two guys who got taken there. You got, you got Jordan Tyson. That guy's always hurt, but he's good. I got Carnell Tate. He's not even the best. He's not the best receiver on his team. That's what old people say. They say stupid things like that it's okay to not be the best wide receiver on your own team when the best wide receiver on your team is the best wide receiver in college football. I think that's okay. I think we can come to peace with that. Here's the thing, dbro. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that you bring in a defensive minded head coach like Robert Saleh and the first pick is actually Carnell Tate. Because the most imperative thing is probably to give the young quarterback more weapons to build confidence. Because if you don't have the quarterback going the right direction, you've got nothing in this league. A lesson that he might have learned the hard way with the New York Jets. Your thoughts on the Carnell Tate selection?

B
I love the selection. You're supporting Cam Ward, like we could all debate. And that selection is even made even better when they trade back into the back end of the first round and they get Keldrick Falk. So you address the defensive line letter in the first round, you get the best wide receiver in this draft class. I've said it before and I'll say it again. He was in a tier by himself. And yes, throw out all the crap and BS narratives of he wasn't the number one wide receiver in his own freaking team. Like, I'm not even going to discuss that with people because it's just dumb.
A
Just dumb. All right, so Jordan Tyson. I think this is a clever pick here for the Saints because the Saints were in a position to kind of take the best guy there. We talked about, like all the different paths they could go, but I think the path, considering crystal obvious, had a concussion history. Considering his contract status in a year, Boggs, it felt like Jordan Tyson was a roll of the dice. That was worth it for them. If it doesn't work out, I don't want to kill them for it because I Feel like you took a shot at least on trying to take that next step. Right.
C
You got to do it because, look, we've seen it for a long time with the quarterback play in the NFL is subpar. There are not 32 humans in the NFL that are all good enough to lead A team for 17 games at the position of quarterback. There's just aren't right. So we've had some bad quarterback play. So what do you do with subpar quarterback play or a guy whose ceiling is limited like Tyler Schuck? You surround them with weapons like the Niners did with Brock Purdy and you give him no excuses. So you say, hey, look, if you can't work with all these great tools that we put in front of you, we will find someone that will. That's basically what it is. And you have to go do this. And I think both these teams are doing that. I think Robert Sala learned a lot coaching the jets and knowing, look, the
A
hardest for a quarterback.
B
Who cares?
A
Learning something with the jets is the hardest way. I will say something nice about the jets later in the show though, so stay tuned for that.
C
Okay, well, look, these draft. But the. I think Carnell Tate, there's not a better combination of these rookies ending up with the perfect type of quarterback. Yeah, with Carnell Tate. Carnell Tate goes up and makes the big play. Cam Ward will put it on you. He'll put it in your range. He will. He holds the ball too long to make the extra big play. And that is what Carnell Tate is. It's a perfect fit. And I think Salah saw that and said, this is. This is our perfect fit. I know we need defensive players. So he worked on that. He traded sweat. He got Jermaine Johnson. He did what he wanted to do before the draft. They also got Anthony Hill that fell back.
A
So they brought in Robinson this off season two, like they're starting to remake that squad. Look, the Titans are not going to, I think, be the doormat they were last year.
C
No, I don't think that it will not be so. So I like the tape pick. And I think you have to give. You have to keep giving the Saints weapons. You know, that's why they went out and they got ETN and fant and they drafted Tyson. Right. Just keep depth for Tyler Schuck to give him weapons to throw to.
A

B
Over.
A
Under two and a half Will Howard jerseys that I saw during the draft. Over, over, over. Under four and a half Will Howard jerseys over. That is correct. It was absurd. How many will have jerseys?
C
You gotta say his name right? Will Harold.
B
That's sad.
A
The yinzers are into the Will Howard. It was stunning. And I was there. My best friend was there with us
B
too, chugging copium shots.
A
And he made a comment where he's like, man, the Will Howard love here is absurd. And he's a big Steelers fan. He's from Pittsburgh. And he was just like, I can't believe these people think that Will Howard is the future. He's like, I don't know what's.
C
I think, I think it's 50% Will Howard love and 50% Mason Rudolph hate.
A
That's fair.
C
I think that's probably what it is.
B
I think it's 100% cope.
A
Speaking of coping, the Steelers were coping because it was snipe city. One of the best stories from the NFL draft. Mai Lemons on the phone with the Pittsburgh Steelers. It looks like he's going to be a stealer. He's hanging out. And then what happens? Well, how he's like, nana, not today. And then the Eagles trade up snipe the Steelers. A little bit of Pennsylvania crime happening here. I don't know what the state legislature is going to do about this one. But Bogs, we're not Ohio.
C
There's not going to be anti flag plants.
A
Well, Bob, I want to get your take on this because again, I experienced this in the arena, which is a little different. Like, we're in the stadium watching the draft, so, like, we're not seeing all the weird other coverage. We're just kind of all there together as a people. I'm sure there were, like, little buzzes and things going around of him talking to the Steelers, so I'm not sure. Did you experience the idea of having Makai Lemon only to lose him to the Eagles, or is that this is all posted for you?
C
I did not. I was streaming on. On fb.
A
Okay.
C
During this pick.
A
Okay.
C
So we. You know, I was waiting for, you know, just the pick. Worm and Fitz were talking. I was waiting for the pick to come up. Honestly, I think this is a blessing in disguise if. If. If I'm telling you, and I love Makai Lemon. I think he's still going to be pretty good. But how many dumbass, egomaniac wide receivers can the Steelers go through? Right? Like, I am so sick of that archetype of wide receivers. Go get Jeremy Bernard.
B
It is.
C
So go get Jeremy Bernard, who started playing football at guard when he was in Pop Warner and knows how to block and will do all the dirty work. And it's a Heinz Ward type. I know dbro doesn't like him as a prospect, but he is way more.
A
He's more of a. He's a lunch pail guy. But, I mean, if you go back through the Classico Burris and the George Pickens and all these guys.
C
I love Maxi Inachor, by the way. Oh, I think it's going to be great eventually.
A
And, you know, I wanted to pay my Patriots to take him. I wanted him desperately. And the sad part was you had sticks playing for that. The crowd was crazy. They were waiting for that pick. They were said, the lights are going off, everyone's hyped. Everyone's losing their mind. They take him, he's not there. And the crowd basically all went and then walked.
C
When was the last time the Cowboys traded with the Eagles, by the way? Just throw that out there. That ever happened before?
B
I don't know. I'd have to look.
A
I could ask AI, but I mean, so. So I'm. Look, if I'm the Steelers, I think they did the right thing. I think Jeremy Bernard is a lunch pail kind of guy that you kind of need, and. And I think he will work hard and be fine. But the Eagle side of this is really interesting because I've seen a lot of people made the comment of, like, well, you have Stowers and you have Lemon. How Many guys can you have here that are going to go over the middle? And my answer is as many as you can get because you have to remake this offense and figure out what you are now. And I think it was Sealy who we were talking about it. Jake and I were on show earlier this week and he was talking about how, you know, Hertz can throw the ball over the middle. He doesn't because of the way the, the offense has been constructed over the years. But you're not asking to do something he's incapable of doing. You're asking him to do something he actually does relatively well that they haven't asked him to do in this offense yet. And we all know the AJ Brown trade is coming. I mean, like, he is moving. I don't know if it's the Rams, I don't know if it's the Patriots, but he's moving somewhere.
C
Better be the Rams after that draft.
B
Better be.
A
I'll tell you what, man. I mean, maybe that's the only way that less sneed could sell that to Sean McVeigh. It's like worry, don't worry. I traded next year's pick for A.J. brown. So he'll help you now. Everything's going to be okay.
B
We said f them picks in 2027
C
for the really good class.
A
All right. But, but Deo, I mean, Mai Lemon here and what the Eagles did. What do you think about the fact that they moved up to get Lemon? Was that the right move for the Eagles? And what does this Eagles offense look like with Devonta Smith, with Lemon, with Stowers and Saquon?
B
I, I, I mean, I think it's a, a perfectly fine move. And, and I was lower on the consensus on Lemon as a prospect and stuff, but considering what they want to do, I think it's a perfect pivot also of like this version of the NFL of like yes, over the last like two years, like Kevin Patullo and Brian Johnson have been God awful as offensive coordinators. They've been horrible. It's basically what can we just apply from Shane Stockings offense of yesteryear and give like Jalen hurts the dollar store, like bastardized version of that offense to sit here and run and ISO routes and go routes and like we live off explosives where, you know, we go dormant for most of the game, but then, you know, two or three long touchdowns and stuff. That's not how you're going to win in this version of the NFL too. We're more and more teams every year. Like people talk about the the revolution to 12 and 13 personnel. Also it's the revolution to a lot of teams going to too high coverage and taking away the deep ball and taking away those ISO routes and taking shots down the field. So the Eagles are saying we have to pivot to that. And yes, the Jalen Hurts narrative is it's stupid man. It's clickbait BS. It's not like he is a 5 foot tall quarterback like Kyler Murray or Bryce Young or Russell Wilson that cannot see the middle of the field. That is not the case at all. Like last year, jalen hurts completed 82 of 100 passes over the middle of the field within the line of scrimmage to nine yards down the field. He can do it. The design of the offenses have not consistently and religiously asked him to do it. So drafting Lemon where they did is totally fine because again if AJ Brown is out and Dallas Goddard's on a one year deal again talking about not only planning for the future but planning for the present, the Eagles needed to do this. They needed to address wide receiver by
A
the way, I see T. Robson here in the chat and also our amazing producer Seth Found the tweet too. The Last I Zone 2021 Last time Cowboys and Eagles made a swap Philly got Devonta Smith and Dallas took Michael Parsons. So doesn't get much bigger than that
C
since they they've traded three times since 2020 but before that their last trades were in 93 and 92.
A
Wow. So there you go. All right, let's get to some great players who landed in some unhappy landing spots. All right, so I want to give the jets some love there because Omar Cooper Jr. I like him as a player. I think he's got talent. I think he could be a good NFL receiver. Kenyon Sadiq certainly. I think in everyone's opinion the consensus best tight end in this draft. But they landed with the Jets. A team that doesn't have a quarterback at the present doesn't know what the quarterback of the future is going to be. And don't tell me about Geno Smith. I don't want to hear about Geno Smith. I've seen enough Geno Smith my entire life. And if you think round two in the New York media is going to be good for Geno Smith, you're high. You are absolutely high on your own supply. Their coach is already on the hot Wilson bro, I just saw Russell Wilson the Savannah Bananas game. Did you see that clip of him? He looked like he ate all the bananas. No, he looked like he ate all the bananas.
C
All right. I was gonna be that mean, but I was gonna say, I didn't see that, bro. A little thick around the middle.
A
Thick around the middle. He looked banana splits. This is what he was having so well, and that's fine.
C
Did not look like he was ready to start camp tomorrow.
A
I was worried about him running to first base after he hit that ball. I was like, please don't get, don't hurt yourself.
B
Look, enjoy retirement, Russ.
A
But, but here we go. I, I, I, I hate it for now, but in the future, I think the jets did a very good job here. I, I like the Bailey pick. I like everything that he did here. Boggs, let's start with you on this one. These two players, obviously enormous talents, but, man, the landing spot right now it feels like we're in neutral with these guys. Like, I find it really hard to believe that just because you surround Geno Smith with more talent that all of a sudden that, that not only does the coach know what to do with it, but the Geno Smith can execute it.
C
Yeah, I mean, look, I don't, I don't dislike the picks because of the lack of a quarterback here. I think they're both good picks for the Jets. I'll say this Kenyon Sadiq one is wild after they decided to take Mason Taylor last year. It makes no sense, right? Like, you have so many needs on this team, so, you know, I guess just take BPA in this class. If you think it's Sadiq, then all right, that's it. But Mason Taylor is now seems really like a wasted pick. So they're going to get a quarterback. You would assume next year. How long into the season is going to be before that guy starts? Right? And Taylor's going to be a free agent in, what, 28. So I just don't think that it was just a weird pick. For all their needs and the fact that they took Taylor last year, Omar Cooper's fine, that you have to get somebody here next to. Next to Garrett Wilson, who has also had a plethora of entries in his career. So I, I think the, the picks are fine for fantasy. They're not going to be great immediately and maybe even next year either. So for fantasy, not good. But I love Omar Cooper. I thought Kenyon Sadiq was pretty good coming in. So good picks by the jets, not great for fantasy at all.
A
Dbro. I think the same could be said copy and paste for the Cleveland Browns. Right, because the Cleveland Browns took your favorite guy, Casey Concepcion, and then my Favorite guy, Denzel Boston, and ruined both of our evenings, basically. They basically ruined our entire weekend taking those two guys. And there's another scenario where, yeah, I hate the ownership. They all make good decisions for an office. Doesn't always make good decisions. Although they did have a good draft. I want to give them some credit. They picked the right guys. But we're headed down the DeSean Watson versus Sanders situation here. And both these guys. I don't know what your re evaluation is of Concepcion, especially after he's landed in Cleveland, but what, where are they at now?
B
I, I'm actually all pushed back. I like both of these picks. Like, for Cleveland, like, Jerry Judy is a nothing burger. Like, I don't even know if he's going to be on the rock.
A
I don't think he is on the roster. I think he is. I don't know.
B
And so then again, like, it's like, okay, well, Casey Concepcion, Denzel Boston and Harold Fannon are just going to duke it out for targets and targets are targets. And we don't know how much the Browns are going to pass the ball this year. With Todd Monkin calling the offense, they could be more pass happy. And yes, we can have a conversation about the quarterback play, but, but everybody's anointing, like, and they're like, oh, it's desean Watson. He's running away with the job in April. Come on. Like, I know we gotta sit here and get some clicks and like, have headlines, but in April, like, that's BS and idiocy. Like, he's not running away with the job. They're not even having like, real practices right now.
C
So no, Shador is gonna start the Holly.
B
I do too. And, and if Shador can take us take a step this year, he actually has an offensive line in front of him. He actually has weapons to throw, throw to. So Joey, you frame this as like, we're kind of low on it. Like, I was really happy with this. They remade their entire passing game in one draft. I thought the Browns crushed it. We, we went into this off season in the draft saying they have no offensive line, they have no pass catchers. The defense, sure, we like that. And we like last year's class. They rebade their entire pass catching group, remade their entire offensive line, traded back in the process and added depth. I, I, I'm really high on both these guys entering this year because the targets are going to be there, not me.
A
You know why? Because I've watched the Cleveland Browns for 47 years. I know, I mean Never to get excited. Sean Watson hasn't been good and he hasn't played good football. It's been four years since his last good season. Four years. 20.
C
I agree with that.
A
And it was 2020 since the last time you played. Actually, it's more than that now because 2020 is the last good season.
B
But what about Shador if he.
C
But the Browns.
A
Not great either. Okay.
C
The Browns did this the right way though.
A
They did it the right way. Here's my hot take. I don't ready.
C
I'm with DBRO on that. Joe. I don't think it's. I don't think it is early enough in Shador Sanders career to say that quite yet. Right? Yes. I think he was a second round pick. If he doesn't have an attitude at the interview or whatever the nonsense was with that, he falls to the fifth. I think he's still a pretty good quarterback. But I think what we can say is that at least the Browns did this the right way. Right. You go and you fix the offensive line with free agents. They had a good drive because, you know, you need starters. You can't develop these guys. You have to have them start so they spend their money there. And then they brought in Quincy Williams, who's a great tackler to replace Devin Bush, who was really good for them last year. The only thing that they missed in this draft, I think, and you know, in the off season is adding a really good edge rusher to put next to Miles Garrett. That's the only thing they're missing. But last year they fixed the running back room with Quinn, Shawn Judkins in Dylan Sampson and Rocket Sanders. This year they fixed the receiver room with Denzel Boston and Casey Concepcion. They brought in Tylen Wallace as well. So I think Boston and Concepcion are 2 and 3 in receptions for this team behind Fannin.
A
I was just gonna say. I think I was gonna say the same thing. I was like, true or false? Harold Fannin Jr. Leads his team at receiving yards. I think it's true.
C
I still think that's true. Well, in yards I don't know. But in.
A
Who do you think it is? You think it's Casey? No, I don't. I think it's Fan. To me, all this did is.
B
Well, you're a known Casey hater. So you're not gonna pick him.
C
I am.
A
And he landed in the worst possible spot. So now I feel validated. That's how I feel.
C
D, bro, you're not getting help from me. Concepcion is Aggie Brown.
A
Yeah. There you Go.
C
I'm never gonna like.
A
There you go.
B
So doubling down on the hate, are we?
A
Of course he is. Hook them horns. All right. Mike Washington Jr. Oh, man, I was excited for Mike Washington Jr. And now he's behind Ashley and Genti Debro. Like, I know, I get it. Like Clint Kubiak used two running backs, so maybe I get excited about that. But like Ashland Genti had a lot of draft capital behind him. I just can't imagine he's anything more than a break open for emergency glass situation here for Mike Washington Jr. Your thoughts?
B
See, I'm a little bit higher on that. They're going to use him so they don't run Genty into the ground this year. And what I think is going to be another rebuild year like or another. They're building towards like 27 and 28 for the Raiders. So I think he's a good easy candidate. He's their automatic RB2. I think he's a good candidate for some red zone work and 120 carries this year. And I know that's not like a. A ton of freaking work. I hate it from Mike Washington standpoint. Like I was messaging with David Cobb like during the draft and stuff and I was like, which, you know, for like for assistant head coach. Former guy worked really close with McGowan and Mike Washington Jr. And I was like, look, look, I love the respect of fourth round capital for Big Mike. I hated the landing spot, landing behind Ash and Genti though.
A
Boggs, who are you texting with during the draft?
C
Just anybody Cool or no Dbrow.
B
I'm not cool enough. I'm not cool enough.
C
D Ro is who I say. I think Mike Washington aspires to be Tyler Algier in this offense. Right? So just. What. But Debro said you hope that he can clear 100 carries, but really your hope is he becomes a goal lineback. That's what we want from Mike Washington. But in terms of fantasy, this makes him only valuable to whoever is holding Genti as a handcuff right now. So can he be. Can he become a better back than that? Absolutely. But he's not much more than that right now. Coming in, he has still has a lot of development to do in his game, but I mean, just for fantasy, this really stings. I was hoping that he would land in like Minnesota or something. Would have been great. Love Claiborne there, by the way. But I hate that Washington went to the Raiders because it is. I mean, it's just going to be an overwhelming amount of touches for Genty

I love it.
C
72 hours there.
A
That's it. That's all you got to do.
C
Were you baptized?
A
They threw Permani brothers at me. And then, you know, a bunch of icy light on top of me and I, I, peace be with you. I, I cheered for the Steelers. I'll tell you this. I've got a bunch of family from western Pennsylvania too. They're aggressively nice. That's how I like to tell them. Like they're very nice people, but they're kind of yelling nice at you. Like, are you good, hun? You need something? Well, you let me know if you need anything, like as loud as possible. But I know they mean well and I love that about them.
B
So you should be okay with that chat.
A
I was. Did I say that my family from Western Pennsylvania wasn't Italian? Of course they are. So let's talk about some other positive things besides just the amazing people and the amazing experience. It was the NFL draft. Let's talk about the winners here. For me, the Winners. For me, I think the New York Giants are winners. I think they did exactly what they had to do. Arville Reese fell in their lap, they took the tackle. They continue to look at what they have on the roster and I think it's very difficult when a new head coach comes in the situation and goes, oh, I want to blow up everything. But I think Harbaugh took a deep breath and went, you know what? The reason I came here is because I think I've got a franchise quarterback. I think I've got a big time wide receiver and a running back who's going to grind for me. And I think at the end of the day it's time to get some more peripheral pieces. I think you look at that defense now, man, you have Arvo Reese, who tackles well, was going to get after the quarterback. There's a lot of opportunities here for that defense to be really scary on a daily basis. Yeah, you did lose a big piece there to stop the run in the off season. I know you had to make a big trade, but I'm telling you, I think the Giants came away pretty solid. And the losers, for me, I think it's the Jaguars. I mean, they were taking guy, you know, they took so many guys that weren't on people's boards or like 100 picks later. When you're the butt of the jokes for the other GMs in the building, you know you've gone horribly wrong. And the Jaguars, I think went from being a team that we saw on the upswing, all of a sudden people go, no, same old Jaguars. Let's just put them back in the box and let's worry about them a later time. And then the Rams, I know we talked about it earlier on the program here today and if you're watching just the short form video of this, go watch the full form video. And we did the whole breakdown. But to me, when you have a 13th overall pick and a team that's on the precipice of going to a Super bowl, you take the selection that's going to help put you over the top. Not a selection for the theoretical future that you don't know who's going to be a part of. I think it's nuts. So let's move on to the next winners and losers here grouping. And let's start with our good pal D bro Derrick Brown. Winners and losers of the NFL draft for you. And look at this, look at this handsome devil with a little bit of eight bit gray in the beard. Eight bit gray in the beard perfect.
C
I love it.
B
I also love that the eight bit made it you know you got the the beard in there which I told you you need to keep I still got it.
A
Look I it's still here. Yeah I just added a Pittsburgh Steeler chain to go along with it because it looks so nice.
B
Easily corrupted and influenced just that short amount.
A
I told you it was 80 degrees and my bald head needed a hat and look like it's a nice hat. It's a really nice dealer's hat.
B
So easily corrupted. Dude I I can't say enough good things about the Saints Eagles and Cowboys drafts. I mean it's all in my draft grade article live on fantasy pros right now. The Eagles I gave them an A plus love what they did but Kyle him and Stowers take a Markel Bell the the mountain of a man to sit here and address the offensive line the late shot on Cole Payton is he going to be the successor to Jalen Hurts we shall see but also dude the pre draft story on ur Bernard out of the IPP program like taking the shot on just a mutant athlete is such a Howie thing.
C
It's worked for the Eagles before.
B
Yes shout out to Jordan Myallotta so if they if they get that even if they get like a depth piece if he becomes a rotational D tackle for them that is a win in the seventh round and moving over to the Cowboys dude like Caleb Downs falling to you at 11 his ability to transform that secondary Malachi Lawrence at 23 Gershon Barham out of Michigan like can he turn into like a dollar store Michael Michael Parsons type of player for
C
you they have a history of converting those guys.
B
Exactly. These tweener guys Dallas has done it before not and and with Christian Parker there I'm not going to say they can't do it again. And bro the other upside shot on Devin Moore out of Florida like if he didn't have the injury history there's no way in hell he's going around for the NFL draft so love all those picks for for the Cowboys and everybody and I gotta get some list for the Saints man I've said it before and pre like yet last year I was so ridiculously ticked off at Mickey Loomis Co. And I was like I'm out. I'm out. Well I'm back in dude I gave them an A plus over their draft I loved everything they did with surrounding tower shuck with weapon upon weapon upon weapon with Jordan Tyson addressing the D line with Kristen Miller because Brian Brise Devin Gotcha. Like they have not performed up to what even standard D tackle play in the NFL. So loved all those picks. Again, going, getting a move guy that I think is going to have a much better NFL career than he did in college with Oscar Delp, who is an otherworldly type of athlete at the tight end position. Getting Bryce Lance, like if you don't resign Chris Olave next year, then first of all, three deep they're going this year with Tyson, Olave and Lance. All of that freaking speed. If Olave leaves, you have Tyson and Olave. I mean Tyson and Lance on the outside and then the depth hall of like round five through seven. So love everything that the Saints did and on the up. On the flip side of this, I hated the Cardinals draft. Like outside of Jeremiah.
A
Well, it's like it's hard to hate it when you get arguably the best offensive weapon. But I feel you. I like feel, feel you where you. I know where you're coming from.
B
I liked the only other pick that they had was Caleb Proctor in round four. But if that's carrying the day, it's like fine. Like you could talk yourself into Chase Bantis in round two. It wasn't bad value. But did you really have the guard need? Like, sure.
A
They have gone for one of the
B
tackles still on the board at that part. And Carson Beck, like, if anybody talks himself into Carson Beck as a short and long term option. You haven't watched Carson Beck play football.
C
Like, incorrect.
B
Multiple, multiple collegiate programs have talked themselves out. Of course.
C
He just took his team to the national title.
B
D, bro, that was not Carson Beck. That was the rest of that freaking team around him. Carson.
C
He was good enough. No, he was good enough.
B
Okay. Did he win?
C
Look, I don't know that he's going to be a good. Did he win?
A
We were winning.
B
He's good enough to win.
C
He won three games to get there.
B
Did he win the championship?
C
No, he did not.
A
No, he.
B
Exactly.
C
I think he's mediocre as a starter, but the keys to that franchise, that offense is sick right now. So if he could be Brock Purdy, he could have something.
B
But he's not Brock Purdy. He's like the uglier version of Cousins and when I say ugly, I mean like put a bag over his head ugly.
C
Like.
A
No, I will say that's fair. I will say this going back to your, your winners, the Dallas Cowboys I actually think did do a pretty good job there, especially because they were the worst team in the league in terms of Giving up passing yards last year. And that was just something you had to figure out. Like, you just. You have to stop the bleeding there, otherwise you can't compete. I still think hot take the Giants are going to win that division. Every year some team goes worse to first. Last year was the Patriots. The year before that we had one. The year before that we had everything
C
that the commanders were in the NFC title game.
A
That's what I mean. They keep trading jabs back and forth. I think. I think. I'm not saying the Giants are going to the Super Bowl. I think they can win that division, though. All right, Scott Bogdan, let's get to your winners and losers from the NFL draft. Look at this handsome young man here, too, with that. With the headphones on. It's perfect. It's a perfect likeness. It should be up in a
B
football. Man, you gotta love it.
C
That is. That is aggravatingly accurate. The winners here, I mean, let's start. Let's start with Cleveland, man. Like, I'm. I'm the first to crap on the Browns when they have a bad draft. But getting Spencer Fano and getting capital to move back to take the guy you were going to take so good by trading with the Chiefs, fixing your wide receiver room with Concepcion and Denzel, Boston as Debro and I think. And Joe's not quite sold on it. But you also added Barber and Brailsford, so these offensive line issues shouldn't happen again. Even if you have to put an under underdeveloped player in, it's not going to be as bad as it was last year. You got. You use that capital that you traded from six to move back to nine to move up to get Emmanuel McNeil. Warren was a great move. And then the bottom of the draft. These are fine darts to throw. Throw a dart on Taylor Green because his upside is one of the better quarterbacks in the league and his downside is Taysom Hill. So he can do a lot of stuff if they let him do that. So I just thought it was a really good draft. And I have to give the jets credit, too. I love Bailey. I know some people don't like him as much as I do. I think he was great. I probably would have gone with Arvell Reese with them, but they've had issues with tweeners. So fine, take the guy that you know is the addresser. Sadiq and Pawns really help whoever the future quarterback is. Sadiq and Cooper, I mean, but Ponds and Daryl Jackson, these are just dogs. And Clay, Kate Klubnick another team a lot like the Cardinals and a lot like the Rams. You have to have something better than Brady Cook behind Geno Smith. Right? You just have to. And I like Brady Cook a decent amount. I thought he should have been drafted last year and he was ended up starting games for the Jets. What's that?
A
Tell me Bailey Zappy is not that guy.
C
I'm telling you Bailey Zappy is not that guy. We've seen enough of Bailey's appe. Klubnick started a bunch of games in college so at least he has experience starting. So yeah, I like both those drafts but I got a man. This Jacksonville draft in the Niners draft just the Jags draft are completely sickening to me. Like I know that the Jags are always, you know, it's. It's the Borker pick. It's not having the first. It's the move to move up to get Travis Hunter. Last year was going to play both ways and now you're using his private primary corner like Gladstone's getting fired if the, if the Jags don't make the playoffs this year. But Borker was a reach. A Regis was a reach. The only non reach I think in this class for the Jags was pregnant who fell to them at 88 the guard. Everybody else in this class, somebody must
B
have kicked Gladstone out of the building like. Like he must have gone to the bathroom and they made that selection because he doesn't fit the rest of the entire draft for them. It's like retreat retreats, pregnant falls.
C
Oh yeah. You ever see the bathroom?
A
So get the pick in real fast.
C
Come on. Before you see 30 Rock D, bro. Remember when Jack Donaghy was tanking it? It feels like that if that's the type of draft that feels like a good shout out. And then the Niners like we know and I thought it was the, you know, the reporter and he even said I was probably a little bit aggressive in asking the question of do you guys not look at other boards or consensus boards or whatever? Because every pick outside of maybe Grayson Holton and Price Sock and Price Sock is probably still read too. They're all reaches, right? Like stribling. You could have got maybe 30 picks later at least I would say maybe 50 to 100 picks later. He was just not a 33rd overall player at any point. Romello height you need. You need pass rushing ends. You don't need edge or I'm sorry, you need run stopping. It's not pass rushing ends. And Romella height is narrow. 6 foot 3 and 239. I just, I don't know if he's gonna be big enough to ever stop the run. And they were. This team was dead last in run D grade last year, 32nd of all the teams. So I didn't really understand what the the Niners were doing at all.
B
Bogman, to your point, I'm gonna go down their picks and tell you how much of a reach they were vs consensus per mock draftdatabase.com Stribling 52 picks height 7 Kaylin Black 92 Grayson Halton was a value. So was price, Hawk, Carver, Willis 61 Duggar 159 Cruz Jr 109 so every one of their picks outside of Halton or Prysock were all reaches versus the consensus board. And everybody could say, and I don't know social media said it, that what whatever you want to about the consensus board. But the literature is out there. The history is out there. If you continually make picks that are reaches versus the consensus board over time you're gonna find out you were wrong. The consensus board is right. And just look at the 49ers draft history over the last like two to three years. It is hot garbage outside of a few players.
A
Yeah, I mean, I mean
C
second day two guy that was good under lynch
B
and they can't take credit. You can't take credit for Bock purdy.
A
He was Mr.
B
Irrelevant. So it's not like you drafted him in round two and said we know better than everybody else.
C
You all pass on 256 times exactly.

I loved it when Daniel Jeremiah and CD Got into a heated debate on how many games Kirk Cousins will start.
A
Didn't Deebo and I just do that earlier? Yes, we all just did that at
B
the beginning of the show because I was live. So what did Jeremiah.
C
It was at the end of the show and Daniel Jeremiah was making your point. Dbro that Tom Brady's in the building and has said many times he hates the way.
A
And who. And who is making my point with
C
the quarterback, Charles Davis.
B
I'll take Daniel Jeremiah in that fight.
C
I will most of the time. But I agree with CD this time. But normally I'm a Daniel bro.
A
Favorite moment of NFL draft week. What was it?
B
Avion Terrell getting reunited with his brother AJ Terrell going to the Falcons. I hated their draft, but that was a wonderful moment.
C
Pretty cool.
A
All right. My favorite football moment there from the actual NFL draft was the Eli Heidenreich pick. I mean, that was super fun to be, you know? Yeah, the endzers out there. And like he played like 7 on 7 flag football with Joey Porter Jr. I heard that he was there too, and he was dabbing him up and it's this beautiful moment, you know, with the salute and the whole thing. He's wearing the dress uniform and I don't know, man. He's a fun player. He's a football kid. I hope he does well. I hope he makes the team and things go well for him. But. But my favorite overall football moment period was definitely getting to experience the NFL draft. It's like Coachella for football fans. It's a music festival for the NFL. It is super fun to go to. I recommend everybody once in their life at least go to the NFL Draft, experience it live, experience all the cool stuff. NFL does a great job. And being able to take my daughter who plays football there to have that experience with her end up meeting my best friend and his son there, too. It was core memory stuff. It was amazing. It was the best time ever. And then to play football and coach football on the weekend again there with her in that tournament was super cool. So it was about the best draft ever. Even though it wasn't the best draft ever for talent, let's be honest. But it was the best draft in my heart. Hence all the merch. I just. I just went crazy, as you can see. Date: May 1, 2026
Hosts: Joe Pisapia (Joey P), Scott Bogman (Bogs), Derek Brown (Dbro)
This episode delivers in-depth reactions to the 2026 NFL Draft, focusing on both fantasy football and real-world football implications. The hosts break down the biggest headlines, analyze team strategies, debate rookie impacts, and identify the biggest winners and losers of the draft. They also dive into dramatic moments, franchise-altering decisions, and notable picks, all through the lens of veteran fantasy experts.
The Problem: With Matthew Stafford nearing retirement and the Rams in a Super Bowl window, many expected a player to help now, not a possible project QB.
Dbro: The draft process and communication (including McVay’s awkward call with Ty Simpson) felt “asinine” and like an unwise “house money” move (08:24).
Bogman: Argues if you wanted Ty Simpson, “trade back from 13,” criticizing asset management and the inflexibility of being “pot committed at pick 13” (10:37).
Long-term Issues: If McVay and Stafford leave (possibly together), there’s no guarantee a new coach commits to Simpson, making the pick risky and possibly franchise-derailing (10:46-12:31).
"Their approach to this draft was asinine to me... we're just gonna plan for next year and the next ten years." — Dbro (08:24)
"This is a complete mismanagement by Monty Ossenfort and the group in Arizona." — Bogman (15:21)
"You have a chance to win, to push your odds to win a Super Bowl. How often do teams even get this chance? But you’re thinking about the next year…winning a ring now." — Dbro, criticizing the Rams (13:47 & 13:51)
"They remade their entire passing game in one draft. I thought the Browns crushed it." — Dbro (35:04)
