There is no such thing as an overnight success. In fact, one of my least favorite compliments is, oh, my gosh, Krista, it seems like you blew up overnight. Not even close to being true. The success I have now was after being in real estate for 23 years. Right. So this is something you really have to understand.

Things take time, and it's one of the hardest things for people nowadays because we have so much access to everything so quickly. We have our cell phones, we have social media, we have YouTube, we have Google. We can just, in a few seconds, just Google something. But that is not how the real world is. Things take work, things take time. Takes energy and effort and resources. And so as you're going through your journey to get discouraged if you aren't seeing the results right away. In fact, I remember once when I was in therapy dealing with. I was taking emdr, having a lot of stress and anxiety. I was starting a new business and my counselor told me, krista, you need to just enjoy the journey. And I'm like, what do you mean? I have all these places I want to go. And she said, you have to enjoy the journey. You need to be like, present with what's happening right now with you and start recognizing your successes or lack thereof as you're going through it. And just know that's a part of the journey, that's a part of where you're going. There's actually a book from Dr. Benjamin Hardy and Dan Sullivan called the Gap and the Gain. And in this book, they talk about as. As professionals, as people and as entrepreneurs, we have this. This ideal that we want to get to, right? The ideal is your end result, the goal, the perfect you or the perfect, you know, outcome that you're going to get to. And then we've got where we start. We start here. And what he says is that so many people are always discouraged about the journey on the way there. They're always thinking in the. In the lack thereof, in the gap. They're saying things like, I didn't get enough done. I'm not seeing as much success. It isn't working yet. They're not looking at all the little gains along the way. And then check, check marking like, oh, today I did this and this happened today. Hey, today this is a failure. But I learned they have to recognize the journey on the way there and start recognizing how many things they're doing right, how many things are working for them. And that might just be starting, right? Starting is like a success. It's more than most people do taking that first plunge. So know this. And I know it's hard because of Ting Tong, Ding Dong, Pitter, Potter, Twitter, Twatter. We all want everything right now. I'm the same. I like things to happen fast. But that is not really how life is. Success does not happen overnight. Things take time. Things are not going to work out for the first time you do it. You're going to have to make adjustments and modifications and you're going to have to just keep on trying and keep on going. And as long as you do that, things will happen. But don't think it happens overnight. And please trust me on this. If you're thinking about investing in something or hiring a coach or joining a program or buying something where they tell you that there's going to have an outcome, if it sounds too good to be true, if they're telling you it's going to happen so quickly, you're just going to have success by showing up. Trust me, I would say no to that program. I would know that realistically, think about it. Things take time. Things take work. Don't let that steer you off. Don't let that shy you away. You know, all the good things are on the other side of the hard. All the good things are on the other side of the fun, cozy little place that you're in now. So keep going. It doesn't happen overnight unless you win the lottery, which is like one every two bazillion people. So just know it'll happen. Keep going. I'm Krista. I hope this was helpful. Thanks for watching. Share it with someone if you think it. It might help them otherwise. Have a great day and I will see you next time.
Podcast Summary: "There’s No Such Thing as Overnight Success in Real Estate" (Ep. 951)
F.I.R.E.D UP with Krista Mashore
Release Date: May 25, 2025
In Episode 951 of F.I.R.E.D UP with Krista Mashore, titled "There’s No Such Thing as Overnight Success in Real Estate," Krista Mashore addresses a pervasive misconception in the entrepreneurial and real estate worlds—the notion of achieving overnight success. Drawing from her extensive 23-year career in real estate, Krista emphasizes the importance of perseverance, consistent effort, and realistic expectations in building a sustainable and thriving business.
Krista opens the episode by directly challenging the commonly held belief that success can be attained swiftly and effortlessly. She states:
“There is no such thing as an overnight success. In fact, one of my least favorite compliments is, oh, my gosh, Krista, it seems like you blew up overnight. Not even close to being true. The success I have now was after being in real estate for 23 years. Right. So this is something you really have to understand.”
[00:00]
This assertion sets the tone for the episode, underscoring that genuine success is the result of long-term dedication and not instant luck or viral moments.
Krista delves deeper into the realities that entrepreneurs and real estate professionals face when striving for success. She highlights the disparity between the fast-paced digital world's expectations and the actual time and effort required to build a substantial business:
“Things take time, and it's one of the hardest things for people nowadays because we have so much access to everything so quickly... Things take work, things take time. Takes energy and effort and resources.”
[01:01]
She reflects on personal challenges, including managing stress and anxiety while launching a new business venture. Krista shares a pivotal moment from her therapy sessions:
“I remember once when I was in therapy dealing with... my counselor told me, Krista, you need to just enjoy the journey. And I'm like, what do you mean? I have all these places I want to go.”
[01:20]
This advice emphasizes the importance of staying present and appreciating the incremental progress made along the entrepreneurial journey.
Krista introduces the concept from Dr. Benjamin Hardy and Dan Sullivan's book, The Gap and the Gain. This framework encourages professionals to focus on their progress rather than the distance yet to cover:
“The ideal is your end result... and then we've got where we start. What he says is that so many people are always discouraged about the journey on the way there. They're always thinking in the lack thereof, in the gap... They’re not looking at all the little gains along the way.”
[02:15]
By shifting focus from what remains to be achieved (the gap) to celebrating daily successes and learning from failures (the gain), entrepreneurs can maintain motivation and a positive outlook.
Krista emphasizes the significance of acknowledging even the smallest victories in business:
“Check marking like, oh, today I did this and this happened today. Hey, today this is a failure. But I learned.”
[02:45]
She encourages listeners to adopt a mindset that values each step forward, no matter how minor it may seem. This approach not only fosters resilience but also builds a foundation for sustained growth.
Addressing the allure of programs and strategies promising rapid success, Krista advises caution:
“If you're thinking about investing in something or hiring a coach or joining a program... if it sounds too good to be true, if they're telling you it's going to happen so quickly, you're just going to have success by showing up. Trust me, I would say no to that program.”
[03:30]
She warns entrepreneurs to be wary of shortcuts that promise immediate results without the necessary groundwork, reiterating that true success is earned through persistent effort.
In concluding the episode, Krista reinforces the message that perseverance is key to overcoming challenges and achieving long-term success:
“All the good things are on the other side of the hard... It doesn't happen overnight unless you win the lottery, which is like one every two bazillion people. So just know it'll happen. Keep going.”
[04:10]
Her motivational closing serves as a reminder that enduring the struggles and staying committed to one's goals will ultimately lead to rewarding outcomes.
In this insightful episode, Krista Mashore effectively dismantles the myth of overnight success, providing valuable guidance for entrepreneurs and real estate professionals seeking to build lasting businesses. By emphasizing the importance of patience, recognizing small achievements, and maintaining unwavering dedication, Krista equips her listeners with the mindset and strategies necessary to navigate the challenges of their entrepreneurial journeys.
