Asteroid inbound to the moon. And another Update on our AI overlords. It's 5 in 10 from Skywatch TV, five things you need to know in about 10 minutes for Friday 13th February, 2026. I'm Derek Gilbert. Adam, number five again today is Iran. As President Trump told troops to today that Iran has been difficult in nuclear negotiations, suggesting that instilling fear in the ayatollahs may be the only way to resolve the standoff. Quote, they've been difficult to make a deal, end quote. This is Trump speaking to active Duties soldiers at Fort Bragg Army Base in North Carolina. This is after Pentagon said that President Trump had indeed decided to send a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East. And I have to correct something I said yesterday. Yesterday I said it was the, the USS George H.W. bush. I was mistaken. It's the USS Gerald R. Ford Strike group that's on the way. I regret the error. Trump again, quote, sometimes you have to have fear. That's the only thing that will really get the situation taken care of. End quote. Trump saying that the Ford strike group will be in position alongside. Not alongside, but along with the USS Abraham Lincoln, within striking distance of Iran. And he's not wrong about this. The fact is that only the threat of imminent destruction will compel fundamentalist Muslims to bend to your will to agree to your terms in negotiations. And even then you've got to watch that they comply because there is a doctrine in Islamic theology called TEA that allows them to lie to unbelievers. I know the US Government has kind of a checkered past when it comes to living up to treaties. Just ask the American Indians about that. Or ask the Russians regarding the promise that NATO would never move closer than it did at the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall about 30 years ago. The Russians told after NATO then did in fact accept nations closer to its borders. Well, you should have got that agreement on paper. Kremlin was not amused. But the difference is that we can look back and say, hey, look, we lied to the Indians and lying is wrong. Whereas under Islamic theology lying is perfectly fine as long as you're doing it to non Muslims. Item number four. Today our AI overlords, the man in charge of Microsoft's AI efforts now signed in the sounding the alarm about imminent mass layoffs. This is due to the overwhelming majority of white collar professional work that he says could vanish due to automation run by artificial intelligences. This is in an interview with the Financial Times. Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleiman forecast that within the next two years, a large number of white collar desks, white collar tasks rather jobs that are typically office type work. Cube farm work that can be automated with AI. And this specter of job displacement now is giving governments and government officials a lot of sleepless nights. Especially when you've got an entrenched bureaucracy that is fighting every layoff tooth and nail. As we've seen over the past year with President Trump and the cuts recommended by doge, the Department of Government Efficiency. It is reported according to new survey that artificial intelligence is to be blamed for 7,624 job cuts in January. That's about 7% of the total for the month. Linked to about 54,836 announced layoffs since the beginning of 2025. Since tracking began in 2023. AI is responsible for about 3% of all job cuts. And we've got an early warning signal of what is coming. There's a startup in the San Francisco area called Mercor which has quietly hired tens of thousands of white collar contractors. We're talking highly skilled specialists in medicine, law, finance, engineering, writing and the arts to train the AI systems that will replace them. These people are getting paid between $45 and $250 per hour for weeks or months of reviewing and refining the model outputs for companies like OpenAI and Anthropic, the makers of Claude AI. These workers basically training the their electronic replacements. Someday you may see an AI sitting in this chair. Replay I dou Skywatch TV ever goes that direction. Item number three today. The fraud hotline U.S. treasury Department today announcing a new portal where people can report tips on suspected fraud, money laundering and sanctions violations. Quote Individuals who voluntarily provide information about such violations or conspiracy to commit violations may be eligible for awards if the information provided leads to a successful enforcement action by the Department of Treasury or the Department of Justice that results in monetary penalties. Penalties that is exceeding $1,000,000. There are certain other requirements involved, but what are we talking about here? Between 10 and 30% of what has been collected of the monetary sanctions imposed in the action or related actions. And again the penalty has to be above a million dollars. So if successful, whoever turned in the party or parties laundering money or cheating the system, defrauding the System could get 10 to 30 thousand dollars for that one phone call. Not bad work if you can get it. The IRS also launching a dedicated fraud task force dedicated to finding the misuse of funding by 501 tax exemption entities. Item number two today. Brace for impact. A large rocky asteroid is on track to make a close pass of Earth in 2032. Now we're not talking about asteroid Apophis here. This is 2024 YR4, the official designation. The odds are much higher however that it's going to slam into the Moon. Now if it does, this lunar impact is expected to produce a light flash that is visible from Earth, generate meteor showers in our atmosphere and create a long lasting infrared glow. Now astronomers when they first discovered 2024 yr 4 in 2024 hence the designation, deemed it first, deemed it potentially hazardous when it was first spotted. They put the odds of it striking Earth at about 3%. Doesn't sound very big, but for most asteroids that's really high. Now the odds have since shrunk down to practically nothing. However, they're still estimating a 4.3% chance the asteroid hits the moon in 2032. This would release about 8 megatons of energy. Astronomers simulating the path of 2024 yr 4 to investigate the aftermath of the impact suggest the collision would be the most energetic lunar impact in human history. Coming up, as we close out the week we talked about Sharia. Yesterday we may have found the one issue that unites Americans against Sharia. I will explain next on 5 and 10.
