the nfl draft changes more than anything in the offseason and we just wrapped up the draft last weekend today jeff bell myself and ten of our football guys staffers are jumping into a dynasty mock draft to see just how these balance values have changed without further ado let's start the
Jeff
draft
Dave
jeff here we go one hundred and one on the clock this can go a lot of different ways in dynasty i think we're probably looking at josh allen here and that's who we see go off the board but who are some of the names that you are going to be watching specifically today like is there one player that you really want to see where they go
Jeff
in this draft one player we're doing super flex correct let's see we are yep so drake may just went off the board i'm at the one hundred and four pick so i'm vamping a little bit to make a selection and i'm not looking at the screen at all because i need to make a pick let's see guessing you're going jaden
Dave
daniels here would be my guess with
Jeff
the one hundred four i think that's
Dave
the way anybody who's listening on audio we saw josh allen bijan robinson drake may and then jeff going with jaden daniels i think that makes the most sense there now we've got chad parsons on the clock with the one hundred five i'd assume we're probably still looking at quarterback here but this is kind of that decision point where you can go lamar jackson you can go jamar chase like chad just did i think bijan robinson and jameer gibbs are also in play jameer gibbs going off the board at the one hundred six so i think this is the biggest difference that we've seen over the last couple of years jeff where it used to be like ten of the top twelve picks in round one were all quarterbacks now here we see bijan robinson going off the board early jamar chase at the one hundred five jameer gibbs at the one hundred six do you think this speaks to the depth of the quarterback position or do you think that we just have some really good talented wide receivers and running backs in the
Jeff
league can i say all of the above i think part of it is what we see from some of these quarterbacks the replacement value of a backup that coming in i know we've had talked before on the dynasty show about really a couple years ago most every backup quarterback was available in the pool and now so many of them are rostered and there's a real big thing on you can kind of plug in and get replacement quarterbacks so i think that's a big part of it i think just the age and the production that we're seeing from a guy like bajan robinson jamar chase and then i think probably probably some of it is some of the quarterbacks falling off a concern around jalen hurts with the tush push and him not being the fantasy producer he's been in the past a couple other guys in that tier patrick mahomes potentially falling off a little bit from historic dynasty value so when you mix it all up i think that's where we end up getting boards that look very very different because you're exactly right it used to be the first ten picks would all be quarterbacks in super flex a couple years ago yeah
Dave
and then just to catch the audience up who isn't watching on youtube after jameer gibbs went off the board at one hundred six we had lamar jackson followed by joe burrow jackson dart jackson smith najigba the wide receiver two off the board going to dan henry at the one hundred ten that's who i was hoping to get at one hundred eleven i think that's a great value there for dan i went with kayla williams at the one hundred eleven we saw mike go with amanra st brown and brock bowers so bowers the first quarterback off the board before for trey mcbride and going at the two hundred and one after that i went with puka nakua then we saw jeremiah love justin herbert omarion hampton and justin jefferson in the first half of round two to close out round two malik neighbors patrick mahomes trey mcbride going almost full round after brock bowers cd lamb at the two hundred ten and now we've got jake bryant on the clock two more picks there and then that third round reversal will kick in so i've got a pick coming up in just a couple of minutes here and it really is kind of a this is a tough one it feels like once drake london went off the board which who i was really hoping for the board does dry up quite a bit here so i'm looking at tedroa mcmillan colson loveland also jumps out to me but it does feel like there's a pretty big tier fall off once you get past drake london trevor lawrence goes off the board i think that's a great pick for mike there some good value i'm really torn between two rookies from last year tedaro mcmillan and colson loveland i don't want to take up too much of the clock here i'm going to go with teddy roa mcmillan i think loveland's very very good but you know having to start three wide receivers and three flex spots this not being a tight end premium league i'm pretty confident in my ability to find a tight end a little bit later
Jeff
dave you go to settings the top right of the draft you can mute sounds and this binging sound of all the people that are listening to this show on audio and visual will go away for them so well i don't
Dave
think they can hear that can they i think that's just in your ears
Jeff
i can hear well that's everything that i can hear is in my ears dave but are you wearing headphones jeff i'm very much here wearing headphones yes i got a headphone here oh but i definitely hear bigging over and over again and i thought at first it was mine but then i realized my headphones that i'm hearing it in is plugged into the audio of the show that we were making at the time
Dave
yeah i could be wrong let us know if you're watching on youtube in the comments i just turned the sound off about halfway through round three but i'm pretty sure we can hear that we both have headphones in but we will see how that comes through on audio so let's go ahead and pick everybody up after this i didn't even talk about the two hundred eleven so after bob harris took cd lamb at two hundred ten we saw jinty go at the two hundred eleven followed by drake london at the two hundred twelve when we got into the top of round three mike khashuba took trevor lawrence at three hundred one i went with tetaroa mcmillan right after that then we saw jalen hurts go off the board dan hendry followed by george pickens chris olave and jonathan taylor that's the top half of round three here second half of round three devon a chain at the three hundred seven and then we saw nico collins at the three hundred eight which i think is a great value there so a little bit of a quarterback run bo nix brock purdy dak prescott and then james cook closing out round three top of round four we see our first rookie quarterback go off the board fernando mendoza as the so jason wood right now has hit one of each position he's got josh allen drake london james cook and fernando mendoza to start i think that's a really good start there jake bryant at the four hundred two took jared goff and there's colson loveland at four hundred three so i was talking about taking colson loveland as early as three hundred two may have had some egg on my face there jeff because we saw him fall quite a bit after that you go with luther burton at the four hundred four which i think is a great pick followed by jordan love at the four hundred five talk me through colson loveland because i think he should go a lot earlier than round like you know round four where he went we're seeing almost a two round gap after trey mcbride do you think that's about right jeff i don't i
Jeff
mean i think it's fair considering you've also got tyler bourne you've got harold fannin if you're still in there so we are seeing and we've talked about dan hendry's picks throughout this dan's one of the sharpest people at football guys he joined me on the last dynasty show that just came out and we talked a little bit about the tight end scoring and what we're seeing i think you need the the high upside of the tight end but it we've gotten to the place where it used to just be a guy that would catch three balls and a touchdown would be perfectly fine as a tight end and now you're really really looking for some volume and i think i mean seeing loveland and seeing burden go back to back we're making the bets that one of them are is going to be the amanra brown potentially for ben johnson and i mean from what we saw last year i think playing either of those guys as the the two bets but i think it would be a little bit surprising probably to see the volume that's going to brock bowers or trey mcbride consistently end up with loveland and it really just comes down to the other available players i think around him
Dave
so to catch everybody up on the picks here after jordan love went off the board at four hundred five garrett wilson at the four hundred and six and that again stands out to me as just a huge value here still just twenty five years old i think there's some concerns about the additions that the jets made in this year's draft i am not concerned about those i think garrett wilson's going to be just fine at the four hundred seven chase brown who joey wright and i just talked about a couple days ago is one of the biggest risers coming out of the nfl draft at four hundred seven followed by a mecca buga taken by joey wright a bucs pick there for sure but also a good value pick christian mccaffrey at the four hundred nine followed by rashi rice at the four hundred ten i took carnell tate at four hundred and eleven and then mike kashuba at four hundred and twelve went with lad mcconkey and rome dunze i came back at the five hundred two with jordan tyson so yeah if you're paying attention i got carnell tate and jordan tyson back to back in rounds four and five feel pretty good about both of those and then after that we saw t higgins aj brown travion henderson makai lemon off the board so we've got the three top receivers in the draft now drafted at five o seven cj stroud screaming value here shout out clayton gray who is just scooping up value left and right in this draft ken walker going off the board at five hundred and eight to chad parsons marvin harrison at five hundred nine breece hall at five hundred ten and then jalen waddle at five eleven jason wood is on the board at five hundred twelve and jeff i was looking at marvin harrison when i selected jordan tyson almost a full round do you think people are maybe overreacting a little bit letting marvin harrison fall all the way into the end
Jeff
of round five i was happy to pick him up so potentially but yeah i think that i mean the the reaction i think we've seen i understand where it comes from but it is kind of severe
Dave
yeah and and and i get it like you know he
Jeff
sorry i had to make a head so i just held off like in the middle of we're trying to do a show as well as make some selections so my brain went somewhere else
Dave
but yes i'm trying to navigate the chat keep the audience up to date on the picks make my own picks as well you know this isn't the easiest thing to do and you know i wanted to do a thirty second clock because i was like i want a quick draft you know i don't want people to have to sit around for an hour and forty five minutes while we do this dynasty because we're also going deep like we aren't doing the typical content creator mock draft where we go you know ten rounds deep and don't even have full teams like i wanted to go deep here like we're filling out our benches i want people to really see some of the late round values but that does make it pretty tough to when you're hosting tyler warren and harold fanning just went off the board before that we saw quinshon judkins let me get ready for my pick because i am coming up on the clock and i had both tyler warren and harold fannin jeff can you filibuster for a minute while i make my next two picks of course
Jeff
i can filibuster so i was able to get cam ward in the sixth round and i thought that was an interesting pick it seems like the reaction to cam ward's his rookie year has been pretty violent in terms of he struggled the first half he was pretty good the second half tyler schuck to dan hendry in that round as well jameson williams just win at the six hundred and nine which is probably a snipe dave was thinking that he was going to get jameson williams there's also
Dave
that's why i had to have you filibuster because i had jameson williams atop my queue and didn't think anyone would be taking jameson williams from me which is why i said jeff i need you to talk because i am tilting right now
Jeff
i mean that's a pretty severe step down to go from jameson williams during addison i feel for you
Dave
buddy yeah big fall off there but what i did do is pair jordan addison up with my qb two kyler murray so i kind of like that you know get a get a cheap stack a little bit late in the draft but let's go ahead and catch everybody up here so jeff you went with cam ward at six hundred four which was also in my queue somebody that i thought i'd be able to get in round six that didn't happen followed by brian thomas then as i mentioned both tight ends going off the board tyler warren and harold fannin i guess that's a good discussion point jeff because you and i talked over the weekend about how tyler warren is now the preferred guy ahead of harold fannin in best ball and redraft leagues but with that big gap in their age do you think it's crazy to still prefer fannin to warren in dynasty because i'm there in dynasty and i know that's a tricky game to play you know i prefer this guy in redraft and this guy in dynasty but i just think fannin still being twenty one years old coming off the season that he had in a not good situation in cleveland it might not be great in the short term for fannin but i see his long term upside is
Jeff
so much more appealing yeah and especially if you're looking at a league that is a tight end premium league especially with some high bonuses on receptions that that can be where it definitely leans that direction i'm gonna make a pick now dave so my brain is gonna go through other places so yeah i
Dave
think we're both trying to do the same thing here like while the other is talking we are putting our picks in cues so we aren't really listening to each other we're just kind of like talking and making picks but i still think that having the board up here there is some value and i wanna say if you're listening on audio as well there's gonna be a link in the description if you're listening tuesday night right when we drop the article be there but by wednesday afternoon there will be a link in the description to an article on football guys where everybody's going to talk through their strategy a little bit also have a picture of the draft board for you visual people or you can just hop right over to youtube dot com footballguysfantasy or footballguys dynasty we are collaborating on this show with both channels so you can find it there let's go ahead and pick everybody up though as i talked about you know we got through the two tight ends tyler warren and harold fannin followed by zay flowers jameson williams tyler schuck jordan addison and sam darnold to close out round six and round seven we had saquon barkley kyler murray tucker kraft kyron williams baker mayfield bryce young jadarian price whoo that seems like a great value going off the board after judkins henderson and some of the other running backs we've seen then travis etienne jeff you took bucky irving at the seven hundred nine i like that pick quite a bit christian watson derek henry and kyle pitts you know i think jason is crushing this draft i've talked about his just about every time i stop on his but he went with kyle pitts at the seven twelve and then coming around at the top of the eighth round he got cam scatter casey concepcion at eight o two i almost took him over kyler murray but i didn't want to just hoard all of these rookie running backs great value there javante williams to bob harris at eight hundred three and then jeff you just took kenyon siddiq at the eight hundred four very sharp pick there as we talk about so often these tight ends that get drafted in the first half of round one have a pretty darn good hit rate yeah and
Jeff
i got sniped i was really hoping to get casey conception conception there i you know how i like to draft i don't like to draft old people in dynasty startups and looking at the board i mean there was josh jacobs that went right after my pick i looked at him i mean devonte adams went right after that another old person i'm sorry to the family of devonte adams devonte adams you're actually very young in the scheme of life i don't mean to suggest that you're at a geriatric age but you're not a twenty one year old tight end that's uber athletic and a player that i'm really hoping that when i'm doing a dynasty startup and something that i've talked with some people in the past and they kind of look looking for advice on how to approach startup i just really really try to take the best young player on the board with each turnaround and you get to a point in two or three years down the line where all of that team has kind of come up together you might have a bumpy year one or you bumpy year two but usually you're also adding really really good players when you do that as well and you end up with this great really core of a nucleus and that's to me is my favorite way to build a dynasty team
Dave
and if you look at my team jeff that's exactly what i am doing we'll run through your team in a second but we're almost at the halfway point here and let me walk you through my team caleb williams pukanukua tetaro mcmillan carnell tate jordan tyson jordan addison kyler murray and ty simpson kyler murray is the old man on my team but still just twenty eight and a guy that i could see really spiking in value if he has a good year with the vikings so even though he's a little bit older i feel okay with that one and you might look at my team right now i just took travis hunter at the nine zero two i don't have a running back yet and the thing is when i'm drafting a team like this jeff i don't even care about contending at this point i am trying to stockpile young quarterbacks young tight ends young wide receivers and hopefully get an early pick in a loaded twenty twenty seven class add some reinforcements to what i already have and then by twenty twenty seven twenty twenty eight i just have an
Jeff
unbeatable juggernaut yeah and i think it's it's obvious of thinking like you can get the one on one in twenty seven you get jeremiah smith but i do think that one of the interesting things that came across i think was jerry sinclair had an interesting tweet today talking about jeremiah love being not a good value for a rebuilder if you've earned the one hundred one and instead of him i think that the two hundred one is the real punishment this year for some of those teams because last year we were already talking about loveland and tyler warren the two hundred one was looking at those guys or then you look at i know i took bo nix in this but two years ago bo nix was sitting there at the second round and this year just the fall off is so so severe as you get through that first round into that second round and those are bad teams usually that earn that pick there so it becomes that much more valuable to be able to hit and have that so i think that that's where the true this lack of talent in this class is a real punishment for somebody that had a pretty bad team last year yeah i agree
Dave
and i mean that's what like people are trying to trade those early seconds now and i feel like we've already seen where people are trying so desperately to get inside that top ten because there is a big tier after there i made a trade during a startup earlier today jeff where i had the one hundred nine i was able to trade back and get the one hundred twelve and the two hundred two i mean people are just desperate to get inside the top ten and i get it like it does feel like there's a fall off there and like i would advise trying to get in there if you can but what do you think about a trade like that where you're moving from one hundred nine still getting another first round pick at the one hundred eleven and then getting the two hundred two on top of that i mean i am okay saying that we're probably a little bit too confident where we draw the lines in these tiers and i'll take my chances on a dijon stribling and whoever else i get at the top of round two
Jeff
what did you trade to get that
Dave
i traded the one hundred nine and in return i got the one hundred twelve and the two hundred two so technically i got out of that tier that we want right like the top ten where you're still getting a sadiq or simpson ended up getting desean stribling and nick singleton instead of i believe it was kenyon siddiq went at the one hundred nine and i'm okay with
Jeff
that yeah i think that that's fine to go that direction i mean if you're going to punt and you really want to go there so i did the earlier i did a trade as well i traded the two hundred and two and some later picks and i got back devonte adams and trey benson so kind of just pivoting and grabbing adams and then the wild card of benson maybe he gets released maybe gets traded goes somewhere else so yeah just kind of looking and being trying to be creative i do think that from what i've seen so far the reaction on stribling is probably too too severe and i mean he went thirty third in the draft i understand the forty nine ers have a shaded draft history a little bit but that it's one of those that if there were not pre draft rankings i wonder where the true ranking of stribling would be across the industry but this is where i've been on a show for way too long and i start to talk about random stuff and this is way way too early in this recording dave did you see i dominated trivia by the way i did pretty good on track
Dave
i did not get a chance to but assuming it was football trivia i do not have any surprise there what was the what was the topic tonight
Jeff
jeff it was the nfl draft twenty twenty six nfl draft oh so yeah
Dave
i mean yeah of course i think
Jeff
it was the highest score that anybody has ever done on that great great trivia show that our friend joey and our great friend jake host and it's a lot of fun anytime you can check it out but i'm going to be in the tournament champions dave so i throwing down the gauntlet dave you got several weeks here that you need to win a show so that you can also be the tournament champion we
Dave
need something that's more in my lane you know give me something like you know if we want to do metal music the metal show yeah yeah bring me on for for a death corps episode and i will beat all of the people who regularly tune in there so jeff i just got john stribling and you know we were talking about him nobody else is watching the show we're recording this one privately but this to me i mean we see him go after denzel boston we see him going you know after a lot of these rookies eli stowers was drafted already stribling for me i've got him as my one hundred and eleven in rookie drafts and that might sound crazy but like you said going thirty third overall to the forty nine ers a team that once mike evans is out of there in the next year or two we don't really know but i mean he is set up to be that guy and even his skill set right now what he does he can be that guy early on who can just immediately kind of take over and step into that juwan jennings role that is
Jeff
open right now one of the things that i liked i put in the rookie guide when i did the initial scouting but i also shared it on socials as well at the time was watching the both texas tech and ole miss i thought that they had their receivers they had their receivers running a lot more route concepts than what you see quite a bit and like zachariah branch is a good example of a player that was running a very very limited route concept and that's one of the things like i you go sixty players deep in this guide with these wide receivers and you start to run into a lot of these guys that i think the easiest example that people can picture is dante thornton out of tennessee last year every single thing that dante thornton did was either run in a straight line or stop catch a ball and run in a straight line so everything was either a nine route or a screen and he and you're watching texas tech and you're watching ole miss they have their receivers running a lot of different route concepts that translate very very well to the nfl and so who are the two biggest surprises on day two of the draft stribling an ole miss wide receiver caleb douglas a texas tech wide receiver so i think it's it's interesting just the maybe some behind the scenes of what we
Dave
are five seconds left to pick jeff
Jeff
i know and i just took somebody random yeah but what do you offer behind this i think that you talk
Dave
about the ole miss receiver i want to say too like not only is it the shade from the forty nine ers draft history but it's also the shade of forty nine ers or ole miss receivers where we've seen trey harris jonathan mingo haven't really lived up to their draft type so i think you're kind of getting like this double helmet scouting negative narratives here around dejan stribling but it's just such an easy pick for me to make there well and
Jeff
you look at so the seahawks take a backup running back from notre dame in thirty second pick in the first round and i mean if that were the thirty first pick because the patriots after they get their butts kicked in the super bowl there'd be a different level of scrutiny around that i think than the super bowl champions going out and doing that pick yeah i am
Dave
in complete agreement with you there well i'm gonna go ahead let me make sure i've got my cue filled before i do this because it's going to come up to my pick before i know it but we are way behind on catching the audio listeners up with picks so let's go ahead and do that real quickly i think the last one that we talked about was where i took kyler murray in the seventh round so i'm going to rapid fire through all these names tucker kraft kyron williams baker mayfield bryce young jadarian price travis etienne bucky irving christian watson derek henry and kyle pitts i did talk about round eight we had cam scatbo casey concepcion javante williams and then you took sadiq that's actually where we stopped followed by josh jacobs devonte adams sam laporta malik willis ronde gads and bashal tutin i went with ty simpson and then we had matthew stafford to close out round eight round nine we saw wandell robinson travis hunter daniel jones jacoby brissette kyle menungai omar cooper junior dk metcalf jaden higgins ricky piersol david montgomery mike evans and mike mike wilson off the board now my queue just got emptied out and i am on the clock i'm gonna make one pick real quick here and then try to throw some guys in my queue for the next pick i think this guy that i've got in my queue should be safe but after we saw mike wilson in round ten we saw tua taga by loa to start round or i'm sorry mike wilson in round nine we saw tua tugabailoa go in round ten followed by chuba hubbard geno smith terry mcclaurin parker washington deandre swift second half of round ten we saw denzel boston eli stowers quentin johnson jaden reed dijon stribling and rj harvey round eleven was jk or i'm sorry jacoby myers brenton strange xavier worthy blake coram isaiah likely chris bell aaron rodgers matthew golden jakori crosby merritt cortland sutton dalton kincaid and brandon ayuk round twelve which just wrapped up tony pollard jalen coker romeo dubs josh downs zach charbonnet george kittle jonah coleman jeremy bernard jake ferguson jalen warren nick singleton and michael pittman to wrap up round twelve all right so the audio listeners should be up to date and jeff i hope you spent that four minutes of me just listing names filling up your queue and getting ready for your next few picks josh downs was your last pick at twelve oh four and i think that that was a great value i am seething right now that mike kashuba sniped me on jonathan brooks i almost took him i was hoping to get nick singleton and jonathan brooks at the twelve thirteen turn he snuck in jonathan brooks so i ended up going with singleton and trey
Jeff
harris instead dave you spent the entire weekend with me do you really think that i would have planned ahead and filled up my queue while i would have had an opportunity to do that
Dave
no we were working hard this weekend and frankly i had a queue filled up for the first three picks and i said you know what i'll be able to get through picks pick three via my queue and then after that you know it'll just be smooth sailing but this thirty second clock is kicking my butt it's really bad it's like
Jeff
this late we're trying to do content we're trying to be plugged in and like put something together like this thirty second clock is horrible when we get down to i mean i just took chris brazil and i don't know if it was a bad pick or an okay it doesn't feel like a very
Dave
good pick exactly where i have him you figure you know he went after nick singleton that's about where he goes in rookie drafts right like you always see brazil and singleton kind of going in the middle of round two that's what i'm looking at is like every time before i take a rookie i look at like the last few rookies drafted and i'm like okay yeah that makes sense that's about what i'm seeing in my my dynasty drafts yeah i
Jeff
mean jason just took jalen naylor who maybe he'll be the primary receiver for the raiders but it's jaylen naylor so i'll take a shot on a day two wide receiver who i liked quite a bit in that football guys rookie guy which is updated now and it is going to be behind a paywall now so make sure that you do all those fun things if you're listening to this episode in the past before it's been published you might have still gotten an opportunity to get that guide for free but probably by the time your ears hear this it's going to
Dave
be paywalled yeah i pumped this out right when we're done recording so it should be out tuesday night for the audio listeners but most of the youtubers by the time they check this out on wednesday afternoon it will be paywalled footballguys dot com rookie guide it'll go behind a paywall at some point i don't know when maybe you can check it out for free maybe you'll need a football guy subscription but even if it is paywall just get a football guy subscription you know they're starting as little as like five bucks a month and it is good stuff that we have here so definitely definitely definitely check that out if you haven't already let's go ahead and get everyone caught up here round thirteen as i mentioned sniped by mike kishuba with jonathan brooks at the top of round thirteen i took trey harris right after that followed by khalil shakira chris godwin tyrone tracy michael pennix deshaun watson who i was really hoping to get with my next pick but clayton gray a very savvy drafter here was able to get that carson beck go in in round eleven i believe no thirteen followed by chris brazil jk dobbins shador sanders and mark andrews to close out that round in round fourteen jalen naylor jordan mason juwan johnson braylon allen drew aller mac jones jj mccarthy elijah surratt aaron jones rico dowdle kaylin black and rashad white to close out round fourteen anything surprising in this one i mean we're getting to the point now throwing darts at carson beck and drew aller i think everybody is just kind of hoping for the best at this point jeff well some guy
Jeff
took chris brazil and it was a really kind of a desperation pick when he did that that was a big surprise when that chris brazel selection came in so i was surprised by that
Dave
one i like that one though i don't think it's as bad as you're making it out to be jeff mason taylor i just got at fifteen oh two this is a guy that we were looking going like what like round six round seven of drafts and i know we saw garrett wilson fall as well in dynasty leagues when you see a guy who is a faller in all of the post draft content i mean dynasty like you shouldn't be falling that far maybe a round or two but like to me mason taylor fall into round fifteen just feels pretty overreactionary to what happened last weekend that that
Jeff
surprises me that the the fantasy football community would be overreactionary to getting new information after months of just waiting for anything to change it really does i actually i did my one of my first puppies last night and the underdog and i i timed out in the eighteenth round because i was trying to put my kids to bed and things happened and i took mason taylor in the eighteenth round i was not feeling feel very good about it but you
Dave
know yeah you know i i will say like best ball not really on my radar but when you're looking from a dynasty perspective like why not he's still just twenty one years old like he was productive as a twenty year old dealing with injuries and i also like you know i've talked about a lot i think geno smith is just such a huge upgrade at quarterback might not be winning football but at least we know with geno smith that he can keep some fantasy options afloat here so let me go through round fifteen tajie spears and then like i said i took mason taylor the fifteen oh two ramadre stevenson justin fields that could be a really good value for jeff blaylock here who his quarterbacks right now jackson dart and justin herbert to start and then jacoby brissette and justin fields a bit later adding to that depth following that up at fifteen o five antonio williams going to joey wright that is a good value pick there a big riser coming out of the nfl draft pat bryant tyler algier trevor travis kelsey jeff ewan with emmett johnson at fifteen oh nine which i really like juwan johnson or i'm sorry juwan jennings jerry judy and zachariah branch to close out round fifteen i just think that i've done too many drafts on sleeper already being the guy that took john stribling and kaylan black those guys are both buried like nine hundred ninety nine in adp jeff looking at where i took both of those guys stribling and caleb black do you think those stand out as decent values or do you think i might have reached a little
Jeff
bit there i think that you might have reached a little bit on the stribling pick but then somebody took chris bell at eleven oh six so i mean that's probably okay i think it so like matthew golden was still on the board and that might be an interesting conversation somebody could be completely out on matthew golden and want to go stribling over golden but i do think that those values so seeing the other receivers that went off the board after you made that pick i don't think it's too too bad no it's i was i was thinking of a tweet today that would probably be funny only to me but it was thinking about how you know like this big fade on stripling i'm like i'm i'm just going to take stripling on every single team and i'm going to put him right next on my bench next to xavier leggette next to keon coleman all these guys that i felt like everybody was being way too reaction matthew golden being way too reactionary on the fading where they were going in ricky adp and i was really smart every single year because i grabbed xavier legat as he was falling down the board and stribling might look really nice on that bench next to those guys yeah i
Dave
mean sometimes these fallers are just a falling knife and you don't want to catch that but i found myself as well like like i felt it literally happened at one point today i'm sure you do the same thing as me during rookie draft season where it's just you have some downtime you fill your queue up and then every couple hours you check in sleeper and you make your and i went in i was on the clock in four leagues and i was like a late first early second in all of them and i got stribling in three out of the four and like that does scare me a little bit when i'm that far against consensus because everybody else is looking at him as a mid to late round second round pick and i'm looking at him as a late first or early second round pick so what that means is that i just get him in pretty much every single rookie draft
Jeff
that i'm doing yeah but it's like i think it's insanity to take chris bell anywhere close to stribling because you've got a player that's coming off injury in a bad offense and stripling again with thirty second or thirty third in the draft and so i do think that we get ourselves into a place where we have pre draft rankings and we want to put value on pre draft rankings and sometimes it's okay to just say that your pre draft ranking was wrong i know i'm wrong on some things and having struggling on katrina allen wide receiver thirty six that was just wrong and so i think it's it's okay to do a reset and say you know what this is better a better place for me to be
Dave
and we talk about that so much leading up to the draft that we kind of look at the draft as that time where we want to learn as much as we can about these players so we can talk about these players know their strengths weaknesses scheme fits and all that stuff but but we are very out of the open with the idea that you know when we're looking at post draft rookie rankings draft capital is that guiding light and i don't think caleb black should have been around three pick but caleb black was around three pick and like he's probably an injury away a thirty year old christian mccaffrey injury away from a decent workload on a good offense so yeah am i the biggest fan of the prospect no am i okay taking him round fourteen of a rookie draft or of a dynasty startup knowing that he could potentially stumble into a workload yeah absolutely yeah i well jeff we were hoping this would be less than an hour and looks like we're about to wrap up in about thirty five minutes
Jeff
that thirty second clock dave that'll do some things to you as you're trying to do an episode during that president

well we made it through here so jeff let's hang out for a few minutes and kind of look at this draft board first of all before we do that i will go through the rest of the picks here to get everybody all caught up where did we leave off i think we left off at round fourteen nope we left we got through round fifteen round sixteen is where we left off so three rounds left i'll catch you up here to start round sixteen jason wood went with mike washington and then we saw woody marks go off the board followed by skyler bell jeff chris rodriguez great pick by you i really like the value you're able to get there with chris rodriguez anthony richardson stefan diggs jalen mcmillan rashid shahid alek ayomanor kenneth gainwell isaac tisla and gunnar helm to close out the sixteenth round in round seventeen we saw chickokonkwo jacoby lane tj hawkinson tyreek hill malik washington malachi fields dontavion wicks alvin kamara kayshawn booty jalen noel aj barner and ted hurst final round of the draft cade klubnick taylor green caitron allen emmanuel wilson trey tucker kirk cousins i like that for some potential early season value here he's got a shaky wide or a shaky quarterback room but that's a good guy to target in round eighteen and then to close out round eighteen we got demon claiborne adam randall dylan sampson brennan thompson keaton mitchell and a ronde gadson so jeff immediate takeaways looking at this board do you
Jeff
have any yet my immediate takeaway is looking at the board i mean i'm very on my own team because that's where my mind is but i think that i'm reasonably happy with my team i'm probably down a wide receiver from where i would like to be and looking around the seven point nine where i took bucky irving which i think was good value there and then the eight four with kenyon siddique was a little bit of a panic because i was hoping kc conception to be there that feels like the range where had i added another receiver like a casey concepcion or christian watson went right there it would have probably felt a little bit better about where my ultimate roster ended up landing i liked what i did late getting some of these you know emmett johnson and braylon allen of should be injury away running backs and also getting some potential production with chris rodriguez and emmanuel wilson very very late of guys that might be able to plug in early in the season and get me through should i absolutely try to win the first couple weeks so i think overall on that i was really happy with the quarterbacks that i ended up with i'm happy with mcbride at the two hundred nine that's what i initially think yeah i like your
Dave
team jeff i think that you were disciplined despite scrambling and trying to make content while drafting i'm going to selfishly ask you about one of my picks here and we just kind of glossed over it as i was reading the names travis hunter at nine hundred two one of the most polarizing players right now i feel in dynasty this again to me feels like just a massive overreaction you know we got it wasn't even a jaguars reporter it wasn't even a jaguars coach it was i forget who and no disrespect i mean the national reporters do good work out there but there was a national reporter that said you know i think that travis hunter could be a full time cornerback this year and john shipley who does great work with the jacksonville jaguars was quick to snuff that out and even if this year he does skew a little bit heavier towards wide receiver usage i'm still looking at a very talented prospect and situations change like what if parker washington gets hurt what if jacoby myers gets hurt what if brian thomas gets traded i feel like people have really latched on to this like early off season not even coach speak national insider speak that travis hunter is now just a cornerback and dead in dynasty leagues and i am just calling bs on that and still aggressively targeting travis
Jeff
hunter i mean if the trade up to get travis hunter if he's only a cornerback that was one of the worst moves in football history i mean to go up and so i think that jacksonville is they recognize that they have strength at wide receiver but at the same time i think travis hunter is going to play wide receiver travis hunter is very very talented player and a lot of so i haven't released this article yet but i'm kind of digging into some numbers and so think about clear shakir on the bills and when the bills were losing last year shakir averaged about eight targets per game eight targets per game would have put him in the top ten in the league in targets at the end of the season when they were winning it was like five targets per game so i'm thinking eight plays eight plays if the ball's going to travis hunter if he's coming in the game the ball's going to go to him potentially if he's playing a pretty limited packages i mean getting eight targets per game would be top ten player when it comes to targets across the board and five six seven can still be a fantasy productive player and so there is a world where he could be playing most every snap on as a wide receiver as a cornerback then still coming in for ten snaps on offense touching the ball on half of those and still having fantasy utility and that's like the worst case scenario arguably and then kind of the upside scenario would be hey he's an elite uber athlete we figured it out and he's our best receiver and you're getting him a young guy in the ninth round and i'll have
Dave
to look through i was trying to count while you were talking and it's just a little too tough to do right now but if i think we're looking at like thirteen or fourteen rookies were selected before travis hunter in this draft so that to me is telling me that like travis hunter right now the guy who was going as the one hundred two one hundred three and rookie drafts last year is now valued as like a mid second in a terrible draft class that to me is just very overreactionary so i don't want to pat myself in the back too hard but i do like to pat myself on the back every now and then and i like that value getting travis hunter in the ninth round looking through all of these though you know i haven't had a chance to like fully digest everything and i'll be writing that in the article that you should definitely check out on footballguys dot com wednesday afternoon when that comes out but i think the biggest thing for me and maybe this is just me having a bit of rookie fever but jeff i drafted a lot of rookies i got carnell tate at four hundred and eleven i got jordan tyson at five hundred two i got ty simpson at six eleven dejon stribling at ten eleven nick singleton at twelve eleven kaylin black at fourteen eleven and then jacoby lane at seventeen oh two i don't know if those are good values or if i've just got rookie fever here but i know this is a down class but especially the the structure that i went out to build like young players with upside i am okay just throwing those darts on rookies i don't need all of them to hit but if a third of those rookies hit then i'm sitting pretty going into the twenty
Jeff
twenty seven season yeah exactly and that's what you're betting on when you're building a team like that you're embracing the variance and you're recognizing that several of these players maybe it was andrew cooper that planted the idea somebody planted a really idea that i love in dynasty of basically when you draft a player in dynasty like you want to be drafting them at their low point more or less and you want them the value to go up from that point and so kind of on some level just every dynasty acquisition that you're looking to make outside of like you're a contender and it's the trade deadline and okay i'll go get devonte adams right now you're ideally grabbing a player that's just going to be ascending from that point in time you're embracing the variance because some of these guys aren't going to hit and but if they don't hit then you're going to add a high high pick in that twenty twenty seven class and that's good in the first round it's good in second it's good throughout the entire draft and so i think that going in that direction and being willing to embrace that variance because you don't need everybody to hit but a handful of these guys do hit there's a lot of value let's
Dave
go through joey wright's team because he's sitting backstage producing this episode and he said go through my team so so let's take a look at joey's team and talk through this real quickly he started off with joe burrow with the one hundred eight in round two he got omarion hampton followed by chris alave a mecca ibuka treveon henderson zay flowers double tap quarterbacks in round seven and eight with baker mayfield and malik willis followed that up with kyle menungai got his tight ends in round ten and eleven with eli stowers and isaiah likely and then just a bunch of dart throws late jeremy bernard tyrone tracy who i gotta say tyrone tracy i really like for the potential early season value didn't get a running back added into that giants backfield camp scatterboo coming back from the injury i really like that pick closed out with elijah surrat antonio williams rashid shahid malik washington and adam randall i don't know what he wants us to do i mean he filled out his roster early and then he took some shots on young players late i mean that that that's how you do it that's how you that's how you start up way to go joey
Jeff
yeah exactly i think it's i think malik washington's an interesting conversation because i've been seeing him in the eighteenth round of best balls he was in the seventeenth round of this draft i mean he might be joey's wide receiver four immediately in twenty twenty six and so
Dave
well you wait for surat and williams and some of these other guys to
Jeff
potentially come on yeah exactly and so i think he's presents an interesting value if you look at what the dolphins did the dolphins definitely added receivers but nothing that they added makes me feel like that he's not going to be malik washington is not going to be the leading target earner on that team
Dave
yeah so i'm looking at some of these other teams jason was a team that i called out a couple of times during the draft looking at his overall team i think that he just absolutely crushed this i'll walk you through his team right now he did have the one hundred one but with a third round reversal you know it makes the first two picks look nice and then it's a little bit tougher after that but he started with josh allen followed up with drake london and then james cook fernando mendoza at the four hundred one i think is eight just fantastic value i mean i think that jeremiah love and fernando mendoza should be pretty tight in rookie rankings but huge chasm between where they went followed that up in round five he got devonta smith and quinshon judkins kyle pitts cam scatterboo michael wilson tua tugabailoa brandon ayuk i love getting the uncertainty on brandon ayuk right now i don't think he's going to retire i think he's going to come back and be a pretty good football player wherever he ends up tony pollard mark andrews jalen naylor zachariah branch mike washington ted hurst and kate klubnick i think that's a strong draft and then the other one that really jumps out to me which we can talk about in a minute is dan hendry's but do you have any thoughts on jason's team here jeff
Jeff
i mean gets the one hundred one gets josh allen i think that going through these definitely players that i could see jason it's a very jason team i think
Dave
kyle pitts at the end of like he got him at the seven eight turn that is a wild value there and i think that really is what ties it all together it's really sharp too yeah and that's like he just got some really really good value picks and sometimes that's tough i feel like when you're picking at the edges you don't always get that value you kind of have to force runs and force positions to get what you need but he stayed disciplined there from that left side and was able to just sit back and get value i really like how his team turned out and then the other one is dan henry who i think two of the best drafters here maybe it was just because they were sandwiching me on either side but dan hendry and mike kashuba were just sniping me through this whole draft but let me walk you through dan's real quickly jsn at the one hundred ten i would have preferred jsn to caleb but still happy to get caleb where i got him at the eleven but then he goes with jeremiah love at the two hundred three followed by jalen hurts rashi rice t higgins tyler schuck tucker kraft bashaw tutin daniel jones so i mean through round nine i think having jalen hurts shuck and jones that's a really nice quarterback room there great value at the ten ten with jaden reed followed that up with xavier worthy just a discounted cost there jalen warren khalil shakir rico dowdle ramadre stevenson kenneth gainwell and then tj hawkinson and brennan thompson to close it that's a strong draft too i like the way dan's turned out i don't think i've ever been in a draft with dan before where i haven't liked his team i
Jeff
mean dan dan's pretty sharp again dan just did the dynasty show with me that came out today and so you can catch that episode we went through the dr draft our risers and fallers kind of looked at some we started to talk about some coach and some schemes that's one thing that i kind of caught myself as we were going this weekend i know particularly on the jeremy bernard pick thinking i mean it's the steelers like the officer smith offense they're going to play tight ends and all this and then no there it's mike mccarthy and kind of making the parallel to randall cobb potentially for jeremy bernard with those two locked in receivers dave i want to ask you a question i'm going to give you a couple groups of players and you tell me which one you like best so group one jackson smith in jigba and jalen hurts group two amon ross st brown and trevor lawrence group three caleb williams and tedro mcmillan
Dave
i know where you're going here i like caleb and mcmillan personally yeah i think that i
Jeff
think that's perfectly acceptable answer i think it's interesting to see if we're really breaking down draft like kind of those inflection points of those decisions that led to laters and kind of the different directions there one i do want to
Dave
and they both because they both went wide receiver and then took their quarterbacks in round three i went with a quarterback in round one got my receiver in round three so i know why you asked the question that way but i like it and then it's kind of funny in round two we went tight end wide receiver and running back so same same but different with the
Jeff
strategies there yeah i liked clayton's draft clayton gray going through he jamar or jamir gibbs malik neighbors devon han garrett wilson then he at cj stroud tyler warren jaran price devonte adams dk metcalf deandre swift aaron rogers george kd sean watson mack jones tyler alier stefan diggs on tavian wicks and kurt cousins and so i think what clayton did is really interesting he grabbed elite high end running backs and receivers to lock down those positions through the first four rounds grabbed cj stroud got a young quarterback back then went back hit hit tyler warren a young high upside tight end grabbing jadarian price as well and then he shifted to grabbing veterans immediate production and these are the teams that you see it's the opposite of what we talked about and really there is kind of that break point where he went with devonte adams dk metcalf deandre swift aaron rodgers george kittle grabbing veteran production because you you start to get really questionable on the young players that land in that range a guy like jaden higgins or omar cooper ricky pearsall kind of in the similar rang that devonte adams and dk metcalf landed and so you do reach that inflection point around round eight round nine where you can either go with young guys that are really really unproven or you can go with guys towards the end of their career and still get some high end to even elite fantasy production on the
Dave
board and you know clayton scene was the next one i was going to talk about as i was looking at the board more his jumps out as one of the better teams out there i just want to say you know a lot of people at football guys might not be familiar with clayton gray he does i don't know his exact job title i think it's general manager he does a little bit of everything the company would not run without clayton gray i mean he is doing a lot behind the scenes but he's one of those guys every time i'm in a draft with him i walk out of the draft just saying like wow clayton crushed it like you know if he ever wanted to make the change from doing the behind the scenes stuff to like writing about fantasy football like he just understands the game and when we did our mock draft last year that was in the magazine i remember saying that like the way i posed the question to clayton was like you drafted one of the best teams here like talk me through it a little bit just a very very sharp guy who's been doing this for a long
Jeff
long time well it's almost like reads over a thousand articles every single year
Dave
you think yeah he's just like learning through osmosis by editing and uploading all of these articles but he had himself a very very good draft but you don't really see any bad drafts here i think everybody in this draft you know this is a bunch of football guy staffers we all kind of know what we're doing and it makes it frustrating because you don't get those crazy values that you might get in a draft with some of your good friends but it also makes it a fun exercise we didn't do any plugs on this show we were so distracted please if you're watching on youtube give us a thumbs up leave a comment subscribe if you're listening on apple leave us a podcast review we love that if you haven't downloaded the rookie guide yet footballguys dot com rookieguide be sure to do that and jeff we have a huge call to action that we missed today we have orphans that we need filled yes desperately like we're hoping to draft thursday morning in listener leagues and we need orphans filled so if you're still listening right now past the fifty minute mark you are one of the die hard listeners shoot me an email kluge at footballguys dot com tell me that you're looking for one of these orphans the do we have three or
Jeff
four available jeff we have four orphans available that the drafts are going ready to go right now we'll be in the rookie draft it's a bunch of listeners they're very very active leagues they're fun they're free leagues but it's a lot of fun a lot of trades dave and i and joey is in some of them as well and so you get to play with us there's lots of trades everybody's very nice you
Dave
know if we were professionals i would say you know like buy a subscription and send me a script but i'm just saying like first come first serve we desperately need these filled we've got a bunch of people that are itching to do these rookie drafts so klugeootballguys dot com just shoot me an email say hey i'm looking to get in one of these orphans and we will get you set up with that team and draft asap i think that's it jeff we hit the youtube call to action we hit the podcast call to action we got the rookie guide we did all the things that we were supposed to do to make this a button up and professional show any final
Jeff
thoughts i think joey backstage could attest that actually i talked about the trivia episode and i talked about the rookie guide and i did these things just naturally throughout the show and so while you're jamming in all the call to actions but i did notice dave at the beginning of the show you kind of took my intro from last night and cleaned it up and did it the correct way and i really appreciate that so you showed me how to do it and so you know it's
Dave
it's fun hosting is tough man it's you know i i prefer being in the second chair personally like where i can just kick back and and analyze the game and not have to steer the ship and do the call to actions but you know we need somebody to host and jeff excited to check out the weekly episodes you'll be doing hosting the dynasty show with this show with jeff and i isn't going anywhere neither is the show that i do every single week with joey wright i've also got another show that i'm doing over on the fantasy channel with a rotating football guy staff so it's all coming at you whether it's me jeff joey bob harris sigmund bloom cecil lammy the whole staff is here ready to share what we're learning about fantasy football with you the audience i want to thank you all so much for taking the time to tune in we will see you soon

Episode: "This Dynasty Startup Got OUT OF CONTROL (Post-NFL Draft Mock)"
Date: April 29, 2026
Host: Dave Kluge
Panelists: Jeff Bell, Footballguys Staff
This episode dives into an in-depth, fast-paced Dynasty Superflex startup mock draft with Dave Kluge, Jeff Bell, and ten Footballguys staffers. It’s the first major mock after the 2026 NFL Draft, exploring how rookie picks, shifting values, and positional runs impact draft boards. The discussion blends real-time draft analysis, roster-building philosophies, and strategic advice for dynasty players seeking an edge.
Jeff (15:06):
“My favorite way to build a dynasty team is always taking the best young player available. The whole team comes up together—you might struggle, but soon have a juggernaut.”
Dave (16:13):
“I don’t care about contending right now… just stockpile and get an early pick in a loaded ‘27 class!”
This episode offers a comprehensive, entertaining breakdown of how seasoned dynasty players attack a post-NFL-Draft startup, blending sharp player evaluations, live reactions to draft snipes, and ongoing commentary on the current state of dynasty values. Whether you’re a builder, a rebuilder, or a contender, the strategies, lessons, and fun of this show are invaluable—especially for those facing their own startup or rookie drafts in 2026.
