Dan Bernstein
Just some light littering, Tammy. But like they say, a little litter can lead to a lot.
Grainger Announcer
Wise words. It feels good to worry less. It feels good to Geico.
Dan Bernstein
Everybody talked about it since I first moved to Oregon. The big one. The earthquake that trashed the whole West Coast. Total destruction. Officially calling it the largest natural disaster in American history. I just didn't know what would help me next.
Matt Abeticola
So I took it all.
Dan Bernstein
Even the gun. It was time. Cello see why American Afterlife is the number one fiction and drama podcast in America. Presented by pair of thieves. Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen to your favorite shows available now. I mean, if you're a Bears fan, you're thinking forward progress. Come on.
Matt Abeticola
Has had forward progress. A Chicago Bears podcast with Dan Bernstein and matabeticola on 31 2, sports.
Dan Bernstein
You've got forward progress on 312 sports. As we talk bears and NFL. And I decided this might be a good time and you tell me if it's not. I just want to see now that we are through free agency and the draft, the essential state of the Chicago Bears depth chart of who's where. That fair.
Matt Abeticola
I looked at it a bit yesterday with our conversation about Judavian Clowney. So, yeah, let's get a little deeper into it. Let's see what we got. You're gonna look at our lads.
Dan Bernstein
I generally I default to our lads because that's sort of the. The objective one. You're not getting the. The team one is going to have this and co that. You know, they don't want to have any drama, but so I go with our lads as my choice of just. It's the easiest for me to click around on and I think it provides the color coded information. It's just my, my personal choice. Let's do it and let's do it. Let's look first of all on offense as the new names. That shouldn't surprise anybody that Khalif Raymond is slotted in as slot wide receiver. That's now a listing for the offenses because you essentially your base package is three wide receivers and they have Roma Dunes, A Luther Burden and Khalif Raymond as the receivers. Also recently drafted Xavion Thomas is slotted right in behind Luther Burden as his direct backup. And a Dunes backup is listed as Jade Walker. Okay, you're starting left tackle at the moment. Showing injured is Ozzy Trapillo.
Matt Abeticola
Okay, well that's not accurate, but.
Dan Bernstein
Yes, but he's, he's there but showing injured with Theo Benedict and Jedrick Wills Jr. Behind him.
Matt Abeticola
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
Braxton Jones is listed as the backup right tackle and Kieran. I'm a God J is behind him. So that's just, that's at the moment and take this for whatever it means. Sam Roush, the third round pick is the number three tight end and there's some familiar names behind him in Stephen Carlson and Nicola Kalanich who we know was active for at least one game. Your guy Hayden Large is well down that list. Hayden the large, Hayden the large. Garrett Bradbury, obviously the starting center with Logan Jones behind him. And anything else of note? Not really.
Matt Abeticola
What's the quarterback?
Dan Bernstein
Caleb Williams, Tyson Bagent, Case Keenum and Miller Moss.
Matt Abeticola
All right, so they still have Caleb ahead of Bajint.
Dan Bernstein
They do. Amazingly. I know that shocks you. On defense, your new starters are Devin. New starters are Devin Bush at middle linebacker and Kobe Bryant at free safety.
Matt Abeticola
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
And strong safety Dylan Thienaman right there ahead of Cam Lewis and Skyler Thomas. The other guys, the other free agents here, Neville Gallimore, backup left defensive tackle, Kentavia street, backup right defensive tackle, James lynch, third string left. Newly drafted Jordan Van Der Vandenberg is the third string right defensive tackle. I do notice that Malik Muhammad, the fourth round pick at cornerback is listed as the backup to Tyreek Stevenson.
Matt Abeticola
Okay, what about defensive ends?
Dan Bernstein
Defensive ends, your starters are Montez Sweat and Dio Odengbo. The backups, Austin Booker on the right, Daniel Hardy on the left. Shamar Turner is listed as the third string right defensive end. Okay, so this is all obviously subject to change, but this is what we have now. Also, as I think we mentioned, the starting long snapper at the moment is Luke Elkin. And both the punt returner and kick returner are Xavian Thomas, ahead of Khalif Raymond, who's the backup at both. And then for the third string punt returner, it's burden third string kick returner Josh Blackwell.
Matt Abeticola
Okay, well then that's changed because Khalif Raymond was listed as the punt returner and Xavion Thomas was listed as the kick returner.
Dan Bernstein
I've got Xavier on Thomas.
Matt Abeticola
Thomas is listed as both, as both
Dan Bernstein
punt returner and kickoff returner. So that's, that's all it is, is just one outlets assessment and one update for you as to what we should begin to expect when this May rookie minicamp opens here. If there's deeper meaning, if you're. If you're able to find deeper meaning, that's on you.
Matt Abeticola
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
The big replacement. I, when I look at this, really, the fact Devin Bush stepping in for Tremaine Edmonds is. I keep looking at that one, I'm like, I think Tremaine Edmonds did more than you think he did. I really do. I continue to have some concerns about the quality of this defense, but it may just be you're going to win games 52 to 48 and will be immensely entertained.
Matt Abeticola
You know, I did want to share this one thing with you since we were talking about defensive ends here just a second ago and I said this to you yesterday.
Dan Bernstein
So Kaylis Campbell, Calais Campbell.
Matt Abeticola
Calais Campbell, sorry.
Dan Bernstein
Elias Campbell. Yes.
Matt Abeticola
He is gonna turn 40 on September 1st. Glaze Campbell. He's entering his 19th season in the league. He just signed a one year deal with Baltimore. So he's going back to Baltimore. He was there for a couple years, 20 through 22. I think he made a Pro bowl one of those years. Maybe, maybe 2020. But I sent this to you yesterday. Kales Campbell was in the same draft class as these guys.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, I saw some of the names. Well, yes, because I was trying to. I needed perspective to think about how long ago 2008 was and to think that, that Jason was three. Really kind of.
Matt Abeticola
That kind of nailed it for you. Okay. Yeah. And this is the draft class he was in with Bears running back Matt Forte.
Dan Bernstein
How long has he been retired? The great trivia question is, can you name the one other active player from this draft class?
Matt Abeticola
Yes, I can.
Dan Bernstein
Actually, there's two. Now that I look at it, there's two technically listed as active.
Matt Abeticola
All right. Desean Jackson, Kevin o', Connell, also in this draft class.
Dan Bernstein
Right. But not active.
Matt Abeticola
Correct. Matt Ryan. Okay. Yep.
Dan Bernstein
Matt Ryan was third.
Matt Abeticola
My guy. Frankenstein's monster, Joe Flacco.
Dan Bernstein
That's one of the actives.
Matt Abeticola
Jamal Charles, Chiefs running back Aqib Talib, Chris Johnson, running back Chris Long, number two, Nelson.
Dan Bernstein
And also, you know who drafted Chris Long? St. Louis.
Matt Abeticola
Oh, yeah, he was, he was a. Yeah. Draft by the rams. That's right.
Dan Bernstein
St. Louis Rams. Yes.
Matt Abeticola
St. Louis Rams. Dwayne Brown, offensive tackle Jake Long, number one overall pick, Jonathan Stewart, Peyton Hillis, Matthew Slater, Gerard Mayo didn't last very long as a head coach. Josh Johnson.
Dan Bernstein
Josh Johnson is your other active.
Matt Abeticola
Oh, that's right. He's still. He's still, isn't he? Yeah, he's still.
Dan Bernstein
He was fifth. Fifth round, 160th overall. I believe Josh Johnson is still in the league.
Matt Abeticola
Yeah, I think you're right. He was a backup somewhere last year. And then Darren McFadden and then Pierre Garcon. All in the same draft class as Calais Campbell.
Dan Bernstein
Absolutely incredible. And he's still, he's still good enough. Like he's still a valuable enough player.
Matt Abeticola
He started 17 games. He played 17 games last year. Had six and a half sacks at 39.
Dan Bernstein
Do you want to know the full Bears draft that year?
Matt Abeticola
This is 2008. Yes. What is it?
Dan Bernstein
This is, this was the Bears draft the year Calais Campbell who just signed a one year deal. This is your Bears draft.
Matt Abeticola
That was Matt Forte as well.
Dan Bernstein
Matt Forte was the second round pick.
Matt Abeticola
Yes.
Dan Bernstein
First round pick was Chris Williams, the tackle out of Vanderbilt with the bad back. Oh, third round pick also out of Vanderbilt, Earl Bennett.
Matt Abeticola
Vanderbilt wasn't that good at that time, was it?
Dan Bernstein
No. But Earl Bennett was turned into for a while a favored target of Jay Cutler. I remember Earl Bennett used to once a game he would by a safety just get absolutely, just, just erased. Also in the third round, Marcus Harrison, a defensive tackle. Okay. LSU safety Craig Stilts was the fourth round pick. The fifth round pick that we had a training camp award named after him. Zachary Bowman. And we're all. The training camp interceptions.
Matt Abeticola
Yes.
Dan Bernstein
Yes. And also in the fifth round was Michigan State tight end Kellen Davis. Ended up playing 125 NFL games. He had 53 receptions and 13 touchdowns in his career. And then it was Irvin Baldwin, Chester Adams, Joey Laroque or Larocque. Kirk Barton and Marcus. Marcus Monk.
Matt Abeticola
Irvin Baldwin. Baldwin. Irvin Baldwin.
Dan Bernstein
Irvin Baldwin, defensive end for Michigan State.
Matt Abeticola
Never heard of these guys. They were drafted by the Bears.
Dan Bernstein
Yes. Well, they had 1, 2, 3, 45 seventh round picks. They had to load up on that seventh round.
Matt Abeticola
Man, we were, God, we were right in our prime there.
Dan Bernstein
2008.
Matt Abeticola
I don't remember any of those names.
Dan Bernstein
I, I don't think we had any of them on the show.
Matt Abeticola
Well, I'm not sure I could have identified them.
Dan Bernstein
Irvin Baldwin, Chester Adams, Joey Laroque, Kirk Barton and Marcus.
Matt Abeticola
I mean that's one of those things where guys are walking away from the field and I'm driving the gol start with the list in hand trying to figure out who they are by number and then if I, if I didn't recognize the name, I wasn't going to stop. Like, hey, Irvin, like a ride.
Dan Bernstein
Except that one year that Johnny Canoli brought his friend, remember that? Oh, do you remember?
Matt Abeticola
Of course I remember. That was, that was, that was a strategic executive producer decision.
Dan Bernstein
We had an. So our intern, Johnny Canole, who was the best and Peter Toronto is his name, right?
Matt Abeticola
Yep.
Dan Bernstein
And great, great guy, great guy. One year we call him Johnny Canola because he's Toronto of the Toronto bred empire. He's probably living on an island somewhere in the West Indies now, sitting on a Beach, earning 20%. So he brought a friend with him who happened to be a young and comely blonde haired woman who, Matty, you made the executive decision, said, hey, Johnny Canoli, go get us some guests and bring your, have your friend sit on the back of the golf cart, which is a really good call on your part. We had more guests that day, remember that?
Matt Abeticola
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
Oh no, I remember we had a line of guests.
Matt Abeticola
Yeah, because I was that idiot that would drive around the golf cart to try to get these guys to come into the RV to, you know, spend a few minutes with us. And so you know what, let's, let's try something different today.
Dan Bernstein
That's like switching from plastics to live shiners. Is what that, what that is like doing that, that, that's like you, you stop at the shop and you bring the live bait with you and one guest after another. And the difference that made that day, I'm thinking, you know, I'm not a smart man. I wonder, I wonder why all of these players are suddenly so excited to join us today on the Boars and Bernstein show. And hey man, whatever it took. do this, but let me ask you because I said I was gonna not partake in this anymore. We have the first mock draft of 2027 out on ESPN from Jordan Reed. Do you want to know who the Bears. Okay.
Dan Bernstein
Yes. Yes, I do.
Matt Abeticola
No, no, we don't have to know. I was.
Dan Bernstein
No, I do.
Matt Abeticola
We don't have to. I do. No, we don't have to. We don't have. It's fine. I know it's early. I mean, Jordan Reed put out his first mock draft of 2027. We don't have. We don't have to get into it, though.
Dan Bernstein
I've probably never heard of the person, whoever it is.
Matt Abeticola
Okay, well, then let's not do it then.
Dan Bernstein
Why not?
Matt Abeticola
Unless you're. Unless you're curious.
Dan Bernstein
Give me the Bears pick.
Matt Abeticola
All right. With the 16th pick, which I think
Dan Bernstein
is is 16, you're gonna have the last pick of the first round. That's your Super bowl champ. 16.
Matt Abeticola
Ahmad Moten, M O T E N defensive tackle out of Miami.
Dan Bernstein
That's not the issue. Why 16? They're gonna finish them to finish in the middle of the league. Yeah, the hell? I don't like this.
Matt Abeticola
So what do you feel about the. The selection of Ahmad Moten?
Dan Bernstein
I'm a gin it.
Matt Abeticola
I'm tackled Miami.
Dan Bernstein
I. I did the wrong pick. Everybody should be fired. I don't know.
Matt Abeticola
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
I don't know who he is or what he does.
Matt Abeticola
All right, we'll keep an eye on the 27 mock drafts as we go through.
Dan Bernstein
Please do that. Please do that. I Speaking of the draft, nobody was watching.
Matt Abeticola
Well, it's not good. I watched Thursday night and then that was it. I didn't watch. And I every. I wasn't baseball. I was checking my phone. I had zero interest in turning on TV to watch, you know, Friday or Saturday at all.
Dan Bernstein
Okay, well, the reason Let me just bring this up because I'm not sure I agree with the logic here, but you tell me. Awful Announcing's Drew Lerner said that last week's NFL Draft averaged 6.6 million viewers during the entire three day run across ABC, ESPN, NFL Network, ESPN, Deportes, Disney Plus, Hulu, the ESPN app, NFL Plus, TikTok, YouTube, and X Twitter. All of those platforms. Okay.
Matt Abeticola
All combined for 6 million.
Dan Bernstein
All combined 6.6 million. The figure is down 12% year over year. Last year's average was 7.5 million. And this is the presumption Last year's coverage included the precipitous fall of star quarterback Shadour Sanders into day three, which kept viewership higher than normal throughout the Friday and Saturday broadcasts. Interesting. As with the first round data, the full draft viewership includes audiences that tuned in on platforms not measured by Nielsen, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, making any year to year comparisons difficult because platforms not measured by Nielsen added approximately 300,000 viewers to first round viewership numbers released by the NFL. On a linear only basis, the first round averaged 12.9 million, he said. Friday's coverage of the second and third round average 6.3. Saturday's late round conjured up 3.7, said a viewership decline was to be expected this year, but Even with the 12% overall decline, it was the third most watched NFL draft of all time on paper. So there's a lot of caveats in this, but we're starting who was watching it on paper. They're just Regardless of the technicalities around ratings measurements, the draft numbers are healthy, even if they're down a bit. I guess. I guess. But do you really think that Shador Sanders drama made that big difference?
Matt Abeticola
No, absolutely not.
Dan Bernstein
I don't either.
Matt Abeticola
Absolutely not.
Dan Bernstein
I don't either.
Matt Abeticola
No, there is, there is no way the even, even the, the most die hard football fan who's not a fan of the Cleveland Browns is not continuing to watch to see what happens with Shador Sanders.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, I, I. Even though that was clearly the top story, the difference between that being a story and people actually saying, honey, you know, I'd love to go run errands right now or I'd love to go get. I can't. I have to stick by the television to see where Shador Sanders is drafted. I don't buy that people are gathering in bars for that.
Matt Abeticola
No, I agree. I agree with you there. That certainly was not a story that kept people watching. And I think the whole thing is terrible after the first round. That's all that's worth watching. And that's not even that, that entertaining or that good to begin with. And this one, we kind of knew how it was going to fall into place. And I think with Mendoza being the number one pick and we've known that for months, there wasn't a whole lot of drama to it.
Dan Bernstein
So.
Matt Abeticola
Speaking of Shador Sanders, though, we need to paddle his Heiney well, More so
Dan Bernstein
his brother, more so Shiloh Sanders because of what's going on with Shador Sanders. So let me back this up because we're already trying to figure out what's happening with the Cleveland Browns and their starting quarterback. So it's already becoming a thing.
Matt Abeticola
And it's also, this is our guy Todd.
Dan Bernstein
That's the thing, because it's Todd Monken and I'm just going to enjoy this. He doesn't want to talk about the quarterback. According to PFT says a report said that Deshaun Watson emerged from last week's minicamp as the favorite. You start over Shador Sanders and Dylan Gabriel, Week one. So Todd Monkin did his appearance on local radio after a haircut under the bridge by a troll and said his preference would be to have a starter in place when the team starts training camp. But he hasn't seen enough to determine that. He said, I'd love to have that. I'm not there yet, so I can't say that. We've been on the field three practices. What I've seen after three days, that gives us a 40,000 foot view of where we're at. Well, you're flying really high, man. If you're at 40,000ft, that's, that's, that's like you're trying to get away from, from, you know, bad weather or something up there. He said that can change once we get back on the field. There's only so many reps you get. You got to start to target towards who going to start opening day. It can still change. It can change even if someone's going to get two thirds of the reps and someone's getting one third of the reps because you're still going to play preseason games. All right, well, he's going to work through this publicly. That's fine.
Matt Abeticola
He knows who's the starter is.
Dan Bernstein
And there, there was A report from cleveland.com that says DeSean Watson came out of the minicamp as the favorite. Watson and Shador Sanders both got first teamwork, but Watson wound up with more reps. So that's all it was. It was more reps. And that's something you're reporting. The fact that he got more reps. He has a lot more experience than Sanders, Gabriel or rookie Taylor Green. And that appears to be carrying a lot of weight for the Browns. Okay. New coach maybe going with the guy who has experience regardless of what, who's popular where. Now meanwhile, Shiloh Sanders, who is shadows brother. Shiloh Sanders was a, he was in Buccaneers camp and I think out of football now. Okay. He got mad at this report@cleveland.com by Mary Kay Cabot and Shiloh Sanders tweeted, go make a sandwich, Mary. Or is this an Instagram Instagram comment where she said, I think they should declare Watson QB1 ASAP. Let the first team offense start to cook. There's no time to waste. Shiloh Sanders. Go make a sandwich, Mary. Oh, Shiloh. Mary Kay Cabot is an OG.
Matt Abeticola
She started covering the Browns in 1988.
Dan Bernstein
Mary Kay Cabot is not to be messed with. You're talking about when it comes to a beat reporter in the NFL. Not just, maybe the top include one of the all time most trusted football voices in a rabid football city, but in the entire league. Mary Kay Cabot is on the Pro Football hall of Fame committee. She also was awarded the Bill Nunn Memorial Award as a distinguished contributor to pro football and pro football coverage that's given out by the Professional Football Writers of America. And you're telling Mary Kay Cabot, go make a sandwich. Come on, man. Come on, man. Like, that's really disappointing. That is really disappointing. Even if, if you disagree and just say this is, this is your opinion. I disagree with your opinion. But to, to level that insult at somebody as respected and distinguished and talented as, as Mary Kay Cabot, that's just stupid.
Matt Abeticola
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
Stupid and wrong.
Matt Abeticola
Yeah. And it's not like her take was something controversial.
Dan Bernstein
No.
Matt Abeticola
Name Watson and get, get the offense cooking. Get this new head coach rolling. Get it, get it started as soon as possible. Not a, not a terrible take. I mean, I, I don't, I don't, I wouldn't want any of those guys that you named as my starting quarterback for my football team. But if you're going to pick one, yeah, I would. It makes sense. Go with the guy with the most experience and maybe Shador Sanders can learn something. Fill in when Watson goes awry or gets hurt. But to go tell her to go make a sandwich because she's a woman.
Dan Bernstein
Yep. And apparently he doubled down that he went on Twitch and he said he takes issue with how she inserts opinion into her reporting and feels she has something against his brother. Well, first off, I'm Shadour how she
Matt Abeticola
inserts opinion in her reporting.
Dan Bernstein
It's her, it's her. It's her job to also have an opinion.
Matt Abeticola
Sanders throws footballs during a football game. I mean I don't, I don't, I
Dan Bernstein
don't like the way Shiloh Sanders tried to play professional football and failed. But that's neither here nor there. It's the it I would tell him if I'm Shador, like, hey man, I stay out of my business. Shador Sanders. And that's the other thing should they've got a relationship. This is the beat reporter. She's in the locker room every day, right? Every single day she's there and she's been there since 88 said 40 years and she's still there doing that work and you're rounds dumb. Yeah. Dumb enough to say something like this.
Matt Abeticola
Yeah. That's pretty stupid.
Dan Bernstein
Come on man. That's too bad. That's really dumb. And it doesn't make me want to root for Shador even though Shador didn't say it. And I certainly don't want to root for Deshaun Watson.
Matt Abeticola
Well, yeah, I mean the only reason that we're watching the Browns is for Todd Monkin. Yes, that's our, that's our guy. Hey, there were a few players that were they, they the team. Their teams declined their fifth year option. Doesn't mean that they, they can't stay or won't stay with their particular teams. But I wanted to point a couple out. Broderick Jones, offensive tackle for the Steelers, his fifth year option declined. Tyree Wilson, defensive end from the Saints, his option was declined. And The Bengals declined fifth year option on. Miles Murphy, 24 year old defensive end. And I bring this up only because reading this story, the director of player personnel who is now currently serving as the de facto general manager for the Bengals, you familiar with with who that is? It is a gentleman by the name of Duke Tobin.
Dan Bernstein
Oh yeah, yeah, that's Bill's son. Right?
Matt Abeticola
Yes, it is. I did not know his son was the director of player personnel for the Bengals. Of course. Bill Tobin, who was the director of player personnel for the Bears 87 to 92, his uncle Duke's uncle Vince, Bill's
Dan Bernstein
brother, defensive coordinator after Buddy Ryan. Yes.
Matt Abeticola
Did not know that. The family continued on with Duke Tobin serving as the director of player personnel and now apparently the de facto general manager. Okay, but a few names there to keep an eye on to see what what happens with some guys, some younger guys at some interesting positions. Miles Murphy in particular, a 24 year old defensive end. I, I think they'll end up stay he'll end up staying with Cincinnati. But again, another option of names as we talk about depth chart and availability and players at the defensive tackle, offensive tackle, defensive end, spot in the NFL.
Dan Bernstein
I wanted to mention something as well. You know that we have giveaways for you. We have rewards. We call them on the 312 sports app and they refresh every month. Matt Abeticola
Speaking of Giordano's, we're actually going there tomorrow night for dinner for Jackson's birthday weekend.
Dan Bernstein
That was his choice.
Matt Abeticola
Yeah. Tonight he selected Batayo, a little Italian restaurant here in town. He likes. He likes their pasta, their homemade pasta. And then tomorrow, wanted pizza. And we're gonna head up to the Giordano's in Gurney for pizza. It's me and the boys.
Dan Bernstein
All right, what do you decide? Do you order multiple pizzas or do you. Everybody can decide on the. On the one order.
Matt Abeticola
We'll do we. If it's just the three of us. We generally do two because he eats. Jackie just eats cheese. And then I've got Hank on my favorite combo of pepperoni, green pepper, onion, pepperoni, green pepper.
Dan Bernstein
No sausage.
Matt Abeticola
Really? He loves that.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah. So.
Matt Abeticola
So he'll do that with me as well.
Dan Bernstein

Dan Bernstein
I'm getting hungry. And we always do this on forward progress because it's the last one we record and it's always right around lunchtime and it always makes me hungry.
Matt Abeticola
Oh, dude, that Italian sub I had yesterday from.
Dan Bernstein
Yes, the big. Oh.
Matt Abeticola
Oh my God. It was so good. Why? It was. It was just. Well, the meat was great, but it was just. I mean, you have the homemade bread, so if you don't know hu. And they're out of. Out of Evanston they have like a satellite location in downtown Libertyville. It's recognized as one of the best bread bakeries in the country. And so I didn't. I didn't realize that. And then we started getting scones and sandwiches which sell out in like a half hour there. But yeah, it had. What was on there, Prosciutto and it had pepperoni and salami and smoked provolone and then jardiner. It was. It was great. It was a great sandwich. I was gonna save you a bite, but I. I didn't. I was going to.
Dan Bernstein
And then I ate it.
Matt Abeticola
Yeah. Then I just decided to finish it. I'm really hungry now, though. Well, I'm hungry now, but I think I'm gonna try to wait till dinner though, when we're gonna go to Patayo. But I don't know if I can wait. That's a long time.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, you'll be rewarded for it. When in doubt. Wait. I always, I always get mad at myself. I. I always say, you know, I should have waited every time. So, yeah, save up delayed gratification and then everything is just going to taste that much better.
Matt Abeticola
Did you see the story of the wide receiver that is trying to make a comeback in the NFL and actually has a tryout at Green Bay rookie minicamp even though he's not a rookie?
Dan Bernstein
Is it a former Bear?
Matt Abeticola
It is a former Bear.
Dan Bernstein
Is it a Ryan Poll's acquisition that he would probably, if he had to pick one to erase from the ledger of his Bears transactions, he would choose to do so?
Matt Abeticola
I would say that this would probably top that list. Yes.
Dan Bernstein
That would be trading a high second round pick for Chase Claypool.
Matt Abeticola
Correct. He is attending Green Bay Packers Mickey. Mickey rookie minicamp. Not Mickey rookie camp.
Dan Bernstein
Mickey Rooney camp.
Matt Abeticola
That actually, that actually fits for Chase Claypool. He should go to the Mickey Rooney camp instead of rookie Minnie camp.
Dan Bernstein
Yes. I never thought of that before.
Matt Abeticola
Mickey. I'm gonna write it down.
Dan Bernstein
I like that.
Matt Abeticola
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
That's our football expert.
Matt Abeticola
Mickey Rooney is going to the Mickey Rooney camp in his attempt to make it back to the NFL. I would give him one bit of advice, though.
Dan Bernstein
Don't be a penis.
Matt Abeticola
Try. That's what I would say. Try.
Dan Bernstein
Try. Actually physically try and put some effort into what you.
Matt Abeticola
What you do. That probably would go a long way. Is actually trying.
Dan Bernstein
See, that's why you're the coach, right?
Matt Abeticola
Yeah.
Dan Bernstein
That's a try. And don't be a dick. Yes.
Matt Abeticola
Both those go hand in hand.
Dan Bernstein
I will say this, that when that man walks on the field if he's in shape, he, He. He cuts a figure.
Matt Abeticola
He looks that part.
Dan Bernstein
Yes, he looks like a God.
Matt Abeticola
Yes.
Dan Bernstein
He's unbelievably gifted as far as the. Just how he looks in pads.
Matt Abeticola
So I hope it works out for him. I'd love to see him in a Packers uniform. Half running routes against the Bears would be.
Dan Bernstein
Are you interested today?
Matt Abeticola
I don't know. Yeah, not really.
Dan Bernstein
We'll see.
Matt Abeticola
We'll see what. What Mickey had to say about it
Dan Bernstein
when he attends Mickey Rooney camp.
Matt Abeticola
He's got nothing to do with football though. But he's a star.
Dan Bernstein
That's fantastic. Well, I guess that's it. And that's really all you need. Damn it. I. I don't know what more is going to get you ready for the weekend when you're talking Bears and NFL than.
Matt Abeticola
What are you doing this weekend?
Dan Bernstein
It's right here. What am I doing this weekend? I.
Matt Abeticola
Fishing.
Dan Bernstein
Well, I mean if. Well, today I'm gonna fish and then tomorrow helmet I'm going to take. I'm going to go to Walmart and deal with my fishing nets and return what I can return and get refunded. What I can get refunded and figure this all out.
Matt Abeticola
You're gonna go buy a real one this time?
Dan Bernstein
I'm not sure yet because. But I am. I'm gonna end up going to. Probably from there. I'm gonna go to. I'll check park bait. I will go to Fish Tech up on Dempster and then I'll go to Dick's Sporting Goods to see. But I'm gonna. I need to actually find something and I can't just. I'm not. I'm done ordering things. I got to go and look and see.
Matt Abeticola
Don't be cheap.
Dan Bernstein
I know, I know. I got it. Trust me. So I'm going to do that. What else am I going to do? I'm going to see if I can exchange my new smoke detector because this one needs. It needs to be rewired and I can't do the rewiring myself. So I need to find one that maybe has the right plugin and.
Matt Abeticola
Yeah, I would suggest not rewiring the smoke detector.
Dan Bernstein
Well, it's got an adapter, but I just need to reconnect the. But they're different colored wires.
Matt Abeticola
Right? I would just. I would suggest getting one where you can just plug it right in. Not have to worry about any kind of rewiring. Whatever. We decided electrical work is not for you.
Dan Bernstein
I've got a guy. We can have Kurt come Over and do it for me. Because he just, you know, I text him and he comes over and he does it. But if I can do one that I can plug in myself, I'll do it and I'll save the 50 bucks or whatever it is. Okay?
Matt Abeticola
Again, don't be cheap. This is about the safety of your home and family.
Dan Bernstein
I'm folding my laundry.
Matt Abeticola
Okay?
Dan Bernstein
I've got two loads of laundry I have to fold. I'm behind.
Matt Abeticola
So you wash laundry and then just
Dan Bernstein
let it sit, dry, clean without folding it? Yeah. What's. Ugh. It's clean.
Matt Abeticola
That drives me insane. You finish it, you fold it immediately put it away.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, I can't. No, no, it has to.
Matt Abeticola
Has to.
Dan Bernstein
It has to age.
Matt Abeticola
It doesn't. No, just don't be lazy. Just do it.
Dan Bernstein
Finish. No, because I felt I did it, and then it was clean, and it sits in the laundry basket at the foot of my bed.
Matt Abeticola
Man, that drives me nuts. So lazy.
Dan Bernstein
You want to come over and fold it?
Matt Abeticola
No, I'm just saying, when you do it, finish the process, man. Don't let it sit and hang for a couple days. Even if I pull a load of laundry out of the dryer at, like, midnight, I'm still folding and putting it away.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, no, no. Yes. No, I know that's. That's pathological that you're lazy.
Matt Abeticola
Then call me pathological.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah, but also, I fold my. I fold my wife's laundry, too. Okay, I bet you don't do that.
Matt Abeticola
She won't let me do her laundry.
Dan Bernstein
Oh, okay. Well, I just.
Matt Abeticola
I mean, I would. I would.
Dan Bernstein
She does her own. She just doesn't let me not fold it.
Matt Abeticola
Yeah, no, she doesn't let me do it. I do it while I'm really good at doing laundry. It's not, like, about my skill or ability. She just doesn't think I should do her laundry, so.
Dan Bernstein
Okay, well, I'm just. That's. You asked about what my weekend was, and then I'm going to tell myself I'm probably not going to fish because my feet. My knees hurt from walking around. And then.
Matt Abeticola
But what about. What about this, though? You have all this extra time. There's no work for the weekend.
Dan Bernstein
Everybody's working for the weekend.
Matt Abeticola
And you have to designate time of your weekend. Your freedom. Your free time is designated because you have to plan to fold laundry because you're too lazy to do it in
Dan Bernstein
the process because it's perfect while watching a cub game or while watching golf where it's just, you know, it's an idle. And, you know, I've learned better in my old age. I've learned better to ritualize mundane tasks.
Matt Abeticola
Okay, let me ask you a question then. This is a good opportunity for this. I've been wanting to ask you this question. String cheese. Like individually wrapped string cheese?
Dan Bernstein
Correct.
Matt Abeticola
Okay.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Matt Abeticola
How do you eat string cheese?
Dan Bernstein
Okay. I take the entire string cheese rod out of the plastic wrapping.
Matt Abeticola
Okay, well, that's a good start. Thanks for sharing that.
Dan Bernstein
And then. And then I make the smallest possible peeled strings, and I. It takes me forever to eat it, and by the time I'm done, it's warm just because of the temperature of my hand.
Matt Abeticola
Okay, but you. You eat it because it's called the string cheese. You eat it in strings.
Dan Bernstein
Slowly.
Matt Abeticola
Yes. Okay.
Dan Bernstein
It's made to be eaten in. Sir. I know. It's just low moisture. Part skim mozzarella. I know that, and I know it's no different than the shredded stuff in the bag, but I still eat it the way it was meant to be eaten.
Matt Abeticola
Okay. I am the only one in this house that eats string cheese the right way.
Dan Bernstein
You just take bites out of it.
Matt Abeticola
No, I eat it in strings. The rest of the house takes bites out of it.
Dan Bernstein
No, that's wrong.
Matt Abeticola
Okay, thank you. I knew. I knew that I could count on you.
Dan Bernstein
Yes, that's. It's string cheese.
Matt Abeticola
That.
Dan Bernstein
Right.
Matt Abeticola
It's string cheese.
Dan Bernstein
The tactile nature of it is part
Matt Abeticola
of the fun of having a string cheese.
Dan Bernstein
That's why you have a string cheese, is to. Otherwise, to see how thin you can make it. And then even you get like the little wispy ones that sort of disappear or fall in your pants or whatever it might be.
Matt Abeticola
Like an hour later, you look down and there's one attached chest.
Dan Bernstein
If there isn't. If there isn't a hair of cheese. Cheese, you're not doing it right.
Matt Abeticola
Thank you. So then my argument is stop buying string cheese and buy. Buy cheese sticks. If you don't want to pull it in the strings, then buy cheese sticks.
Dan Bernstein
Okay, I'm with you on that. Or just buy a block of mozzarella and carve at it. Yeah. Or just take bites out of it. That's the, The. The string cheese is designed to be enjoyed and eaten in that way. And it also, that's why it's called string cheese. And you also eat it so slower. And that allows your body to. To understand, you know, you're. You're. You're not as hungry when you eat it slower. It's better for you that way now.
Matt Abeticola
I think the fact that you eat it that slow where it's warm is probably. I think you've gone too far to the other end of it. But, you know, I probably rip it off and I don't know, I. Maybe I might get six strings out of it. So they're like. But I still eat it the right way though.
Dan Bernstein
You know what? I have to get to that. You turned me on to that. I can't. I just forget to buy it because it's not something I kind of run into. But every time I have it, I'm glad I have.
Matt Abeticola
I turned you onto this.
Dan Bernstein
The canned lupini.
Matt Abeticola
Oh, yes, the jar. Jar.
Dan Bernstein
The jar. Yeah, the jar of the cento lupini beans. Those are so much fun because squeezing the cotyledons out of the covering is so satisfying. It's almost like bubble wrap.
Matt Abeticola
If you do a whole jar of that at one time and you get into a bowl and a little bit of olive oil and salt and pepper and you know what they're really, really good with. But I don't, I don't drink this anymore. Is an ice cold beer.
Dan Bernstein
Yeah.
Matt Abeticola
Oh, it's so good. Yeah, but.
Dan Bernstein
And they're inexpensive. You can get a huge can for like five by your jar for five bucks. Yeah, they're really good for you. They're also really good for you. They're full of protein, they're full of fiber. And what I haven't done yet is do one of my. I do a sauteed like blackened chickpea.
Matt Abeticola
Oh, sure, that's good.
Dan Bernstein
Where you'll dry off the chickpea. You gotta be super dry. So rinse them really well and dry them. And then you can make a rub with whatever you want. Like I use cumin and chili powder and like good Hungarian paprika. You can use cayenne salt, black pepper. And then get a hot pan with a drizzle of olive oil and char them. I want to do powder too. And I want to do that with the lupini beans. I think that would be an awesome snack.
Matt Abeticola
That'd be good. Yeah, that'd be good. Yeah. If you're. So if you're doing like a good charcuterie board, it's. The lupini beans are a nice addition to it. I like the.
Dan Bernstein
In. In aesthetically, if you also buy marcona almonds, they're similar in shape and color.
Matt Abeticola
Yeah, they look the same.
Dan Bernstein
They look the same. So it's kind of cool where you have like the marcona almonds over here, and then you can have your lupini beans over here. And you're just like, oh, no.
Matt Abeticola
You could actually do a lupini bean spread, too, on a nice crostini. A little food processor, you know, some seasoning, a little. Little olive oil. It's good stuff.
Dan Bernstein
All right, I'm gonna go eat.
Matt Abeticola
All right, let's go eat.
Dan Bernstein
Let's go.
Matt Abeticola
I'm gonna be in a bag of
Dan Bernstein
pork rinds, I think. I think that's all I need because I'm having a big dinner night. We're going out for Italian, too.
Matt Abeticola
Oh, yeah. Enjoy that. Enjoy that. So, yeah, this is. Yeah, this is. Yeah, this is three one two Sports.
