It's a mixed market on Wall street this morning. The dow is down 16 points, but the NASDAQ is gaining 78, adding to yesterday's record high close. The S&P 500 is up 1 point as oil prices dropped 3%. WTI back to 92 bucks a barrel. But gas is up 2 more cents today. AAA's national average for regular $4.55 per gallon a quarter more than just a week ago. And one company that relies on fuel is helping its workers afford that.

DoorDash Food ordering and delivery company says it expects to spend more than $50 million in the second quarter of the year on extra pay for drivers in the US And Canada to offset an increase in gas prices. It announced the program in March. Investors are told on a conference call the gas relief is being paid for by pulling back on some planned investments and that there will be similar adjustments if the gas relief program is extended. New claims for unemployment benefits were weaker than expected in the latest reading for the week ending May 2, claims came in at 200,000 and continuing claims those remaining on benefits declined to 1.76 million in the week ending April 25. Outplacement firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas also released its monthly report. It says announced April job cuts increased 38% from March. Workplace expert Andy Challenger says technology companies are leading all industries in layoff announcements, and they often cite AI spend and innovation.
