The price of oil, though down a quarter the day after, dropping back to 66 bucks a barrel. There is no change, really, at the gas pump. AAA's national average for regular remains $3.15 per gallon, the same price as a week ago. An American is in trouble, accused of helping an illegal immigrant in a big tax fraud case.

The Department of Justice says Victor Cruz, a tax expert, helped Miguel Martinez file thousands of fake income tax returns that resulted in $25 million worth of refunds. Officials say Martinez, a Mexican national in the US illegally worked the scheme from 2019 to 2023, using ST to create fake businesses and report phony wage and withholding information to the IRS before submitting hundreds of tax returns. Using the stolen and fraudulent information, Cruz prepared and filed more than 500 of those returns and got thousands of dollars in fees from Martinez. Cruz faces up to 10 years in prison when he's sentenced in November. Martinez has pleaded guilty and has been sentenced to six years in prison. Tanya J.
