It is an up and down start to the day on Wall Street. The Dow is surging, gaining 284 points. The S&P 500 though is down for the NASDAQ is dropping 87 points. But all those numbers could change dramatically later today after we hear from the Federal Reserve, expected to finally do what President Trump's long been demanding.

It's widely expected that the central bank will lower interest rate for the first time this year and will slash its benchmark funds rate by a quarter point to a range of four to four and a quarter percent. The decision comes as recent job reports signaled a weakening labor market while inflation still remains elevated. The Fed made its first reduction to interest rates in September of 2024, kicking off the current easing cycle with a hefty half a point move and lowering rates from their highest level in more than 23 years. In an open letter, Jerry Greenfield says he can no longer in good conscience remain an employee of the company he founded with Ben Cohen in 1978. He says the company known for its social activism, has been silenced and sidelined by Unilever for fear of upsetting those in power. Unilever's ice cream unit says it disagrees with Greenfield's perspective. In 2000, when Ben and Jerry's was sold to Unilever, the deal included a clause allowing allowing the brand to maintain its own independent board of directors who had authority over its social mission but not operations.
