Powell has been under investigation since late last year by the U.S. attorney Pirro for his role in overseeing contracts, spending and construction of the new Federal Reserve headquarters. Judge James Boasberg granted a request by Powell's team to quash or essentially get rid of subpoenas as part of the investigation, boasberg writes. A mountain of evidence suggests that the government served these subpoenas on the board to pressure its chair into voting, voting for lower interest rates or resigning. Meanwhile, Pirro is not giving up. Kevin Warsh, the man handpicked by President Trump to succeed Powell as the Fed chair, is already preparing for a delay to be confirmed. The chief reason? North Carolina Republican Senator Thom Tillis says he's putting a hold on the nomination until the Powell investigation ends.
