Data from the Canadian government agency Statistics Canada shows a roughly 25% decline in Canadians returning from the U.S. last year, but researchers at the University of Toronto tracking cell phone activity finding the year to year drop is closer to 42%, according to the study. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina saw the biggest drop with some 65% fewer Canadian residents visiting, followed by Yuma, Arizona with a 62% decrease. Researchers suggest the drop in cross border trips comes amid mounting political and trade tensions between the two nations.
