A Texas immigration law that been tied up in court gets blocked by a judge a day before was set to take effect. Fox's Kristin Goodwin has more.
Kristin Goodwin
A federal judge granting a preliminary injunction against sections of Texas Senate Bill 4, passed by Texas lawmakers in 2023. The measure would allow police in the state to arrest people suspected of illegally crossing the U S. Mexico border, creating pathways for local officials to remove those who are convicted from the country. Groups including the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas sued, claiming it's unconstitutional for several reasons, including arguing the federal government should oversee immigration law, not state agencies. The judge writing indeed, it is implausible to imagine each of the 50 United States having their own state immigration policy, superseding the powers inherent in the United States as a nation.

Kristin Goodwin, Fox News In 2019, California passed a wildfire recovery compensation program to help people impacted by fires, specifically where utility companies may be to blame. Edson International CEO Pedro Pizarro tells Fox Business the fund will impact community still recovering from the Eaton fire.
Pedro Pizarro
That structure has come to bear in the case of last year's Eaton Fire, which unfortunately may be connected to Southern California Edison's infrastructure, even though we believe that the utilities actions were prudent. And so that fund today has around $21 billion of capacity. Much of that may be exhausted by the Eaton fire.

Edson International and Southern California International are also creating another smaller fund to help provide compensation. The NFL schedule is now out and the super bowl is scheduled for February 14, 2027, falling on Valentine's Day and President's Day weekend, a first in league history. It's a long holiday weekend for many US Workers, especially government workers who have President's Day off. The game will be held in the Los Angeles area once again at SOFI Stadium, which also hosted the 2022 Super Bowl. I'm Tom Magatti.
