One of the worst tragedies in Switzerland's history. I'm Lisa Licera, Fox News. That's what Swiss officials are saying after a fire at a bar on the Alps kills at least 40 people and injures at least 115 during a New Year's Eve celebration.

Just after 1:30 in the morning, a fast moving fire tore through Le Consolation Bar in Crans, Montana, located in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Thirteen helicopters and 42ambulances rushed to the scene. The cause of the fire is not officially known, but two theories have emerged. Some say it was a firecracker, while two witnesses claim champagne bottles with sparklers caught the ceiling on fire. Panicked partygoers ran for their lives out of the basement, up the narrow stairs and out the door, while others broke windows to escape. Officials say the fire likely triggered the release of combustible gases, causing a flashover or backdraft. Bystanders helped carry the injured out to safety.

Fox's Stephanie Bennett. Switzerland has announced there will be five days of mourning to honor the victims of the fire. On his first day in office, New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani has brought back a shel agency that protects tenants as he works to fulfill a campaign promise to make the city affordable for all New Yorkers. He addressed the large crowd of supporters during his inaugural address this afternoon. Beginning today, we will govern expansively and audaciously. We may not always succeed, but never will we be accused of lacking the courage to try. Mamdani, a self proclaimed democratic socialist, was previously a New York state assemblyman. President Trump has signed a proclamation delaying increased tariffs on upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities for a year, citing ongoing trade talks. The order keeps in place a 25% tariff he imposed in September on those goods, but delays for another year a 30% tariff on upholstered furniture and a 50% tariff on kitchen cabinets and vanities.
