Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are split on the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by the US as well as President Trump's announcement the US Will temporarily run Venezuela.

Top congressional Republicans argued that the president had proper authority to act, but Democrats questioned that assertion. Virginia Democrat Tim Kaine will force a vote on war powers next week. In the Senate, Adam Smith of Washington State says the administration, quote, gave no consideration or pledged plan for what comes next. Smith also says the move could destabilize South America. Even Republicans have questions when the president says the U.S. will, quote, run Venezuela. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer wants to know how many troops the U.S. will have in Venezuela.

In his first public break with President Trump since taking office, New York City mayor and Democratic Socialist Zoram Mamdani is blasting the president, writing on X Unilaterally attacking a sovereign nation is an act of war and a violation of federal and international law. Mamdani now joins some other elected Democrats in condemning the U.S. military action. But U.S. allies like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are praising President Trump. Netanyahu saying of Trump today, quote, I salute your decisive resolve and the brilliant action of your brave soldiers.

Prosecutors say the two bar manage are suspected of involuntary homicide, involuntary bodily harm and involuntarily causing a fire. Forty people died and more than 100 others were injured in that fire that broke out early Thursday. Investigators believe sparkling candles on top of champagne bottles ignited that fire when they came too close to the ceiling of the crowded bar in an Alpine resort town. Authorities will look into whether sound dampening material on the ceiling conformed with regulations and whether candles were permitted for use, among other safety measures. Angelo Bavaro, Fox News.
