An individual approached U.S. border Patrol officers with a 9 millimeter semi automatic handgun. The officers attempted to disarm this individual, but the armed suspect reacted violently. Fearing for his life and for the lives of his fellow officers around him, an agent fired defensive shots.

Much of the eastern two thirds of the country being impacted by a historic winter storm. Snow and ice reports continue to come in across the plains over over a half a foot of snow has already been reported along with ice up to three quarters of an inch across northern Louisiana. Meanwhile, significant snow and ice accumulation expected to continue to lead to widespread power outages and major travel disruptions that will last for several days. And if the snow and ice weren't enough, there's a chance of severe storms across the Gulf coast on Sunday afternoon. The main threat looks to be strong gusty winds with a brief tornado possible.
