The GAO is a non partisan congressional watchdog and was asked last month by Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren to investigate moves by the Trump administration that put the day to day management of education grant programs under the Labor Department. She was joined by independent Sen. Bernie Sanders and Democratic Senators Patty Murray and Tammy Baldwin. The grants serve more than 12 million career, technical and adult education students. The Consumer price index rose 0.3% in February, up 2/10 excluding food and energy. For the year ending in February, the CPI was up 2.4% and core CPI for the year excluding including food and energy rose 2.5%. The annual numbers are in line with expectations and suggest inflation held steady last month. The February report does not include any impact from higher oil prices from the conflict in Iran.
