Speaking on the floor of the House before the vote, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries blamed the president and Republicans for the shutdown and for the expected rise in health care costs once subsidies run out later this year.

New Jersey Democrat Senator Cory Booker in a statement said the fight for affordable health care is not over, but success will require Democrats to recognize we must do much more on behalf of the American people. And he said it's time for a new generation to lead the Democratic Party. ICE detainees in Chicago and surrounding areas could be released once a federal judge gives the order.

U.S. district Judge Jeffrey Cummings plans to issue an order next week to release hundreds arrested by ICE during Operation Midway Blitz. The judge said some of those arrests violate a 2022 consent decree that forbids federal arrests with no warrant.

Fox's Colonel Scott the judge also gave government attorneys a de line of Friday to go through a list of 815 people detained at jails and federal facilities nationwide to see if they qualify for alternatives to detention under the decree, like using an ankle monitor while their cases proceed. An Indiana Sheriff's deputy is killed in the line of duty in a traffic crash in Delaware County.

Crash reconstruction units are on scene near Yorktown, just northeast of Indianapolis, where Indiana State Police Sgt. Scott Keegan says a Delaware county sheriff's deputy was out on foot with a stranded truck driver overnight when another semi that was northbound on I69 lost control.

A housing landlord near an Air Force base in Florida tells residents to take down their Christmas decorations for now.

Christmas is officially grounded at housing near Tyndall Air Force Base, at least until after Thanksgiving. The property manager recently told residents near the Florida Panhandle base to take down their twinkling lights and inflatable Santas until after Thanksgiving. The company pointed to the housing handbook, which says all holiday decorations should be displayed no earlier than 30 days before the holiday.
