Just two weeks to the shortest day of the year. December 21st, winter solstice. We're at less than 9 hours and 20 minutes of sunlight a day, not enough for people with seasonal affective disorder or sad. Our skin produces vitamin D and sunlight, which supports mental health. When you're feeling cold and sad and blue, don't hibernate. Get out, get some exercise, keep up social contacts. And that may help you ward off the carb cravings and winter weight gain that also makes people cranky. An average of 4 to 11 pounds.
