The Supreme Court blocking a National Guard deployment in Chicago for now. The Trump administration so far not identifying a source of authority allowing the military to execute the laws. In Illinois, a Supreme Court order concludes justices refusing to lift a lower court's order blocking President Trump from deploying National Guard troops in the Chicago area. It's not a final ruling, but it is at least a temporary setback for the administration as it seeks to use National Guard troops to support crime and immigration crackdowns in other cities. Conservative Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch dissented from the majority in that case. Louisiana's governor is welcoming the National Guard into his state as 350 troops will now be deployed in New Orleans ahead of the New year.
Jeff Landry
I want to thank President Trump. He is fulfilling his commitment. Him and Secretary of War Hedsith are sending the National Guard backed into Louisiana into New Orleans. They will be there for New Year's Eve and they're going to be there for a deployment through February, which we desperately need.
