Powers A decade has passed since 49 people were killed when a gunman opened fire inside the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. And an annual observance is planned. The Pulse remembrance ceremony will feature performances from local artists, including the Orlando Gay Chorus and a special presentation by the city's poet laureate. A candlelight ceremony and reading of the 49 names will conclude the event. At the time of the massacre in 2016, it was the deadliest mass shooting in US history. Recently, city officials unveiled updated plans for a permanent memorial that will feature a healing garden, reflecting pool and tributes to those killed and will be built on the site of the former nightclub.
