man has become the oldest person to be executed in the state. Dusty Ray Spencer, convicted of fatally stabbing his wife Karen in 1992. Last week, the state Supreme Court rejected Spencer's appeals. The execution is the ninth in Florida this year after a record 19 last year. Another 74 year old Florida inmate, Dennis Socor, said to be executed on July 14. He was convicted of killing a woman in early 1982 after meeting her at a New Year's Eve party. The immigration detention center in the Florida swamps known as Alligator Alcatraz is closing after nearly a year. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says the facility fulfilled its mission.

Several House conservatives are threatening to block any action in the House until the Republican led Senate passes the Save America act, the voter ID law. President Trump this week refused to sign a bipartisan housing affordability bill, saying he wanted the Save America act done first. But the speaker says that housing measure will now be transmitted to the White House. If the president takes no action in 10 days, it will automatically become law.
