Aerial safety concerns take center stage as Chris DiMeo reports a near-miss incident involving a Southwest Airlines flight originating from California.
[02:38] Christina Coleman:
Christina Coleman provides a detailed account, explaining that the flight, bound for Las Vegas, “suddenly dropped nearly 500ft in just a matter of seconds to avoid a possible mid-air collision with a Hawker Hunter jet” ([02:38]). Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 revealed that the two aircraft came perilously close—only 4.86 miles apart laterally and about 350 feet vertically. The incident occurred shortly after the Southwest flight departed Burbank Airport, causing significant alarm among passengers. Fortunately, two flight attendants sustained injuries, but the plane landed safely in Las Vegas. The FAA issued a statement: “Southwest Airlines Flight 1496 responded to an onboard alert that another aircraft was in the vicinity while in Los Angeles Air Route Traffic Control center airspace” ([02:38]).

Connor Hanson elaborates on the situation, stating, “The White House hopes it will have a new template for how it deals with these universities. President Trump says he believes Harvard is ready to make a deal despite several ongoing lawsuits” ([03:41]). These legal battles are rooted in campus protests over the war in Gaza, with President Trump accusing Harvard of fostering anti-Semitism. In retaliation, the White House has frozen over $2 billion in federal funds, with potential threats to seize up to $7 billion. Harvard, however, contests these actions, arguing that the federal funds in question are unrelated to the alleged anti-Semitic activities on campus ([03:41]).
[04:12] Chris DiMeo:
In lighter news, a maritime incident in New Jersey concludes without casualties. Ten individuals aboard a sailboat crashed into the rocks of a jetty. Despite the dramatic nature of the crash, “No one was hurt,” assures DiMeo ([04:12]). All ten people were successfully rescued, underscoring the effectiveness of local emergency response teams.
