Two more Republican led states consider drawing new maps to help win more elections.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster now plans to call for a special session of the state's legislature to redraw the state's map of congressional districts. It would follow the lead of other states like Texas, Florida and Tennessee, using Republican political control to amend maps in their party's favor. Democrats have done similarly in California and attempted to do so in Virginia. Meanwhile, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, also Republican, is calling a special session for redistricting that would not affect the upcoming congressional midterms, but be in effect starting with the elections in 2028. There are multiple ongoing court fights over redistricting. New numbers released by the Census Bureau show mid sized cities holding steady in population growth as big city growth drops off.

Among cities with 20,000 or more residents. The top five fastest growing by percentage last year are all in Texas, one near Houston, four near Dallas, including Salina City at the top of the list. Its population went up 24.6%. There's a pattern of mid sized cities growing faster than the major cities nearby. New York City, for example, shrank by around 12,000 people. But four suburbs are among the country's 200 fastest growing places by percentage.
