Among them a one year moratorium on permits for new large scale data centers that power artificial intelligence. Concerns over the energy consumption of data centers as well as the environmental impact have led some of those lawmakers to get on board with the idea, which had initially been a push for a three year moratorium. The tech industry has opposed the measure pushing that decision should be made on a case by case basis. Governor Kathy Hochul has been resistant to a statewide moratorium, but a spokesperson says she will review the bill if it gets to her desk. In New York, Tanya J. Saban said college sports is drifting toward a professional model and without a national framework, every rule turns into another lawsuit. The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, chaired by Texas Senator Ted Cruz. If college sports cannot enforce basic rules because of the laws that Congress wrote, then Congress has a responsibility to adjust them.
