Inflation, measured by the PCE price index, rose 0.4% last month, matching the April reading, though for the year ending in April it rose by a stronger 4.1%. Core PCE, excluding food and energy, rose 3.10of a percent and was up 3.4% on an annual basis, the largest increase since October of 2023. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh has said policymakers are watching inflation, though cooling crude oil prices are expected to result in inflation easing.
