It's going to be a very, very, very long day. This is going to be a very long, strenuous process here. But Republicans are inching very, very closely to getting this done and, and sending this big, beautiful bill over to the House, although it hasn't come without some spilled blood. Over the weekend, the Senate passed the big, beautiful bill, the House's version, at least 51 to 49, to begin debating this bill. And there were two defections on the Republican side. Two Republicans, Senator Rand Paul and Thom Tillis voted no.

Thom Tillis
Republican Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina says he's not running for reelection next year. The announcement came after he opposed President Trump's tax breaks and spending cuts package. Tillis issued a statement saying in Washington over the last few years, it's become increasingly evident that leaders who are willing to embrace bipartisanship, compromise and demonstrate independent thinking are becoming an endangered species.

Despite the progress, the bill faces internal challenges. Over the weekend, the Senate passed the House's version of the bill with a narrow margin of 51 to 49. Notably, two Republican senators, Rand Paul and Thom Tillis, dissenting their votes, marking significant fractures within the party.

His stance has led to significant political repercussions, including threats from President Trump of a primary challenge and Tillis announcing he will not seek reelection next year.
The newscast briefly covers the high-profile trial of Sean "Diddy" Combs, with Therese Crowley reporting:
"The jury is deliberating after lengthy jury instructions in Manhattan federal court. The jury [is] to decide if prosecutors actually proved a RICO case against what the defense calls Diddy's lifestyle." ([01:37]).
