Two Muslim women arrested for second degree disorderly conduct during a demonstration are suing the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office in Oregon, alleging their religious freedom was violated when they were forced to remove their religious head coverings while they were in custody and photographed in front of others. The suit is asking for any mugshots of the women without their hijabs to be destroyed and removed from any law enforcement databases. It's also urging the court to order the sheriff's office to change its policy to accommodate hijabs, which it says their Islamic faith requires them to wear along with clothing covering their full body when in mixed gender spaces outside their immediate family. On Independence Day, Fox News Radio delivered a comprehensive update covering a range of significant national and international events. From presidential initiatives and geopolitical tensions to natural disasters and social controversies, the episode provided listeners with in-depth reporting and insightful commentary.
Lisa Brady opened the broadcast by highlighting the dual focus of the day's celebrations: the traditional Fourth of July festivities and a pivotal signing ceremony at the White House for President Trump's "big beautiful bill." She set the stage by referencing the president's recent rally in Iowa:
[00:14] President Trump: "State Fair, then all of a sudden, like we get elected and there's a spirit in the country and we start doing well. We have victory after victory and so many different things, especially economically, we're doing so good."
The administration's legislative efforts have sparked significant debate. Mark Meredith provided an analysis of the tax cut and spending package, detailing the opposition from Democrats and a faction of Republicans:
Mark Meredith: "They claim the new work requirements for Medicaid and food stamp recipients will make it harder for some Americans who need help to get it. A small number of Republicans also voted against this package because of the cost."
Meredith further explained the political strategies surrounding the bill:
Mark Meredith: "Democrats are eager to make this their rallying cry for next November's elections. Republicans are going to make sure they talk a lot more about the tax cuts and how much more money Americans may see when they either get their tax refund or less money out of their paycheck."
The White House remains optimistic, asserting that the policies will yield long-term economic benefits despite immediate criticisms.
In international affairs, Lisa Brady reported on President Trump's engagement with Ukrainian leadership:
[00:58] Lisa Brady: "Meredith at the White House, where the president and first lady also host a picnic for military families today. Earlier, the president had a call with Ukraine's President Zelensky."
Alex Hogan delved deeper into the discussions between Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky, emphasizing the ongoing conflict with Russia:
[01:07] Alex Hogan: "Zelensky just released a statement saying that the pair discussed Russian airstrikes, opportunities in air defense, defense industry capabilities and joint production. It comes after Washington paused shipments of military aid to Ukraine earlier this week. And the Kremlin also issuing a new statement today saying that it does not see a future path forward through diplomacy. There's been no set date for future negotiations."
The situation remains tense as President Putin initiated the largest aerial assault on Ukraine shortly after Trump's reported lack of progress in talks, escalating fears of further conflict.
Tragedy struck in south-central Texas amid record rainfall, leading to severe flash floods. Lisa Brady provided an update on the disaster:
[03:00] Lisa Brady: "High water rescues in south central Texas after record rain triggering flash flood emergencies and several deaths now reported in Kerr County. America is listening to FOX News."
Emergency responders are actively engaged in rescue operations as the state grapples with the aftermath of the unprecedented weather event.
A contentious moment arose from President Trump's recent rally in Iowa. Lisa Brady reported criticism surrounding his use of the term "shylock," which some perceive as anti-Semitic. Jared Halpern elaborated on the incident:
[02:52] Jared Halpern: "Speaking with reporters after the event, President Trump said he was not aware the term shylock has been used as a slur against Jewish people."
Trump defended his choice of words, clarifying his intent:
[03:00] President Trump: "No, I've never heard it that way. To me, shylock is somebody that's a money lender at high rates."
Halpern referenced a previous instance involving then Vice President Joe Biden:
[03:06] Jared Halpern: "In 2014, then Vice President Joe Biden apologized after using the term when referring to loan officers."
The incident has sparked a broader conversation about language and its implications in political rhetoric.

The lawsuit seeks the destruction and removal of any mugshots showing the women without their hijabs from law enforcement databases. Additionally, it demands a policy change to accommodate hijabs, affirming their necessity per Islamic faith alongside specific clothing requirements in mixed-gender spaces outside their immediate families.
With the nation celebrating Independence Day, safety measures are a top priority. Jared Halpern reported on the collaborative efforts to ensure secure festivities:
[04:06] Jared Halpern: "The Department of Homeland Security is working with the FBI as well as state and local law enforcement to ensure that everybody celebrates America safely today, especially here in New York, where the Macy's fireworks show is set to happen tonight, the largest fireworks show in the entire country."
The authorities are particularly focused on major events like the Macy's fireworks display, aiming to prevent any incidents and ensure a joyous celebration for all attendees.
In addition to official celebrations, there is a movement organizing protests across the country. Lisa Brady relayed information from Nate Foy:
[04:20] Lisa Brady: "Fox's Nate Foy organizers are planning what they call Free America protests around the country."
These protests reflect a segment of the population voicing their perspectives amidst the ongoing political and social discourse.
