A possible blood test to detect and predict Alzheimer's is showing promise. In a new study.
Chris Foster
Researchers say a blood test may predict if apparently healthy older adults are likely to develop Alzheimer's symptoms in the next five or 10 years. It could be used to determine who should try drugs being tested to delay or prevent the disease. The test is for a protein called P Tau217. It's currently used to help diagnose whether people experiencing cognitive problems have Alzheimer's or another disorder. The scientists behind the new study say symptom free older adults with very high levels of P Tau217 had a 38% risk of developing cognitive impairment over five years, 78% in 10 years. They say it's too soon for healthy people to start asking for the test. For for now, eat and sleep well and get lots of exercise. Chris Foster, Fox News.
