The update opens with significant international and domestic political news. Elisa Brady reports that President Trump is returning to Washington after playing the opening round of golf at his new course in Aberdeen, Scotland. During his visit, he met with the British Prime Minister, who is now urging the UK government to recognize Palestine as a state by September. This move is contingent upon the Israeli government taking substantial steps to alleviate the "appalling situation in Gaza". Israeli officials have responded firmly, stating that recognizing Palestine would "radicalize and reward terrorism".
